Before Clifford was a Big Red dog, he was a very small puppy. The beginning of the new school year brings a new neighbor to the apartment building where Emily Elizabeth lives. Clifford and his friends are scared by a strange wailing noise coming from the new neighbor's apartment. And they begin to wonder if a monster isn't living there--especially when they find a huge tooth. Clifford finally meets the new family, and realizes that all his fears are unfounded. In the end, Clifford and the gang realize that you should get to know people before you decide what they're like.Based on the TV episode "The Monster in 3-B". Aaron's song picks for the week come from a Seattle-based band led by singer/songwriter Ben Bridwell while Brent spotlights music from one of the most successful Canadian rock groups of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Formed after the break-up of Bridwell's previous band, Carissa's Wierd, Aaron highlights three songs from the group Band Of Horses. Originating in Winnipeg as Chad Allan & The Expressions before a clever marketing ploy permanently altered their name in 1965, Brent looks at three songs from the career of The Guess Who. Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses catches up with Kyle Meredith to talk about Things Are Great, the band's first album in six years. The South Carolina rocker discusses how the LP “almost killed him” with no touring, a divorce from his wife, writing a breakup record knowing that his kids might listen, and masking the truth with tricky wordplay. Bridwell goes on to speak on his disdain for the California town of Coalinga, how there could be a follow-up EP of leftover songs, and the pile of covers the band has tracked. Listen to Band of Horses' Ben Bridwell discuss Things Are Great, its heavily personal content, and more. You can also watch the full interview via Consequence. «Things Are Great» verspricht uns die 6. Platte von Ben Bridwells Band of Horses aus Seattle. Are they though? Das neue Album bringt in vielerlei Hinsicht Trost – auch für Fans der ersten Stunde!
This week's Talkhouse Podcast features a bit of a lovefest between two titans of the indie-rock world, Lou Barlow and Ben Bridwell. It's a cliche, sure, but Lou Barlow probably doesn't need an introduction around here. A founding member of Dinosaur Jr., he played on that band's formative 1980s albums before not very amicably parting ways with frontman J Mascis. But Barlow found plenty of subsequent success in the 90s with Sebadoh, whose 1994 masterpiece Bakesale is referenced in this chat. Barlow also, weirdly, had kind of a mainstream hit with his side project Folk Implosion—and there's some very interesting, unexpected Folk Implosion news in this podcast that I won't spoil for you. Barlow eventually rejoined Dinosaur Jr. in 2005, and the band has found a fruitful third life, making vital new records. Speaking of vital records, the prolific Barlow has also found time to make new Sebadoh music and solo records. The latest Lou Barlow record came out just last year, and it's called Reason to Live, and there was also an excellent Dinosaur Jr. album from 2021 called Sweep it Into Space. As Ben Bridwell points out in this chat, Lou Barlow has been making music in public for damn near 40 years, while the group that Bridwell leads, Band of Horses, is approaching 20 years now. As you'll hear in this conversation, Bridwell moved from the South to various other cities, ending up in Seattle—and specifically at the legendary Crocodile Cafe—where he played in bands and listened to lots of music. He loved Sebadoh, as did pretty much everybody in the 90s, and it was one of the inspirations for Bridwell to launch Band of Horses, which subsequently found its own substantial fanbase—no surprise considering Bridwell's passionate voice and fantastic songs. Band of Horses hasn't put out a full length in more than five years—blame the pandemic for at least some of that delay—but is just now releasing a great new record that feels a bit more like their early stuff, and they're about to head out on a huge tour supporting the Black Keys. The new album is called Things are Great. It's clear from the very start of this conversation what a huge fan of each other these two guys are—and also that neither of them are very good at accepting compliments. Barlow talks about the magical moment he connected with Bridwell's voice, Bridwell talks about discovering the power of that voice, they talk about how a Camel cigarettes tour brought them together, and eventually, Bridwell makes up his own segment for the Talkhouse Podcast called “rapid fire.” It's a delight. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Lou Barlow and Ben Bridwell for chatting. If you like what you heard, please follow Talkhouse on your favorite podcasting platform and social media service. Oh, and rate us, too—it really does help! Ben talks to Ben: Songwriters on Process interviews Ben Bridwell from Band of Horses.Fun fact: this is not the first time I've interviewed Bridwell. The first was in 2015, when the amazing Sera Cahoone hooked us up with each other.Like most songwriters, Ben Bridwell from Band of Horses has found the past two years to be a bane to his creative process. With few exceptions, songwriters have told me that dark days are not conducive to creativity. As Carl Newman of The New Pornographers said to me, “Some people say that they write best when they're sad or depressed. I don't get that. Because when I'm sad or depressed, I'm crippled beyond writing.'” In our 2019 interview, Jim James of My Morning Jacket decried the myth of the tortured artist. Patterson Hood and Lilly Hiatt told me that they wrote a lot for about a month after the pandemic started, but that was it. Gloominess aside, if your songwriting centers around conversations you hear and people you see, what's there to write about if you hear nothing and see nothing? The pandemic has not been good for Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses. “It did not lead to me writing more stuff. It messed me up,” he told me. Large expanses of time—no touring, after all—have not led to more songwriting. In fact, all this time has made him feel “listless.” The breakup of Bridwell's marriage has made things even tougher, and the freedom to write whenever he wants actually makes him want to write less. “All this freedom makes me push it away,” he says. “I never did that when there was structure. When I had a routine, it was easy to create. Without that, I'm listless.” While Bridwell's creative process may have changed in seven years because of family upheaval, one element remains constant: crossword puzzles. Just as he told me seven years ago, he uses crossword puzzles as a way to explore language and wordplay. The latest album by Band of Horses is called Things are Great.

Clifford the Big Red Dog first found his home at Scholastic in 1963. His now-famous creator, Norman Bridwell had been rejected by nearly a dozen other children's publishers. Beatrice de Regniers, then the editor of Scholastic's Lucky Book Club, took one look at Bridwell's black-and-white drawings of Clifford and said, “The kids are going to love this!” What made de Regniers so sure that Clifford would win over young hearts? “That's how kids feel,” she said. “They feel like, ‘I don't belong here. I'm somebody odd in the crowd.'” Since then, more than 160 Clifford titles have made their way into print. The books have been translated into more than 20 languages and sold more than 134 million copies. Along the way, TV series and video games have been created about the lovable character. Now, Clifford is hitting the big screen in Clifford the Big Red Dog, a new movie from Paramount Pictures. The film, which is also available for streaming on Paramount+, is directed by Walt Becker and produced by Jordan Kerner and Iole Lucchese, who is Chief Strategy Officer at Scholastic and President of Scholastic Entertainment. Caitlin Friedman, SVP and General Manager of Scholastic Entertainment, serves as Executive Producer. In the new film, Darby Camp stars as Emily Elizabeth, the little girl whose puppy magically grows to be 10 feet tall. She and her Uncle Casey, played by Jack Whitehall, must cope with Clifford's somewhat unmanageable size in a New York City apartment. The film also features John Cleese, as animal trainer Mr. Bridwell; Izaac Wang as Emily Elizabeth's steadfast friend, Owen; and Tony Hale as Zack Tieran, the scheming villain of tech giant LyfeGrow. Kenan Thompson turns in a hilarious performance as Clifford's baffled—and intimidated—veterinarian. In this episode, Kerner talks with podcast host Suzanne McCabe about his role producing the movie. He explains the hopeful message that everyone's favorite big red dog offers this holiday season and gives a behind-the-scenes look at filming in New York City, where the CGI-animated Clifford was represented by two talented puppeteers. Kerner has served as a producer on dozens of films for television and the big screen, including The Mighty Ducks, George of the Jungle, Charlotte's Web, and The Smurfs. He is a former Dean of the School of Filmmaking at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. The "Spiritual Kintsugi" episode a few weeks ago was inspired by a conversation that I had with Maria Bridwell. And today she is my guest on Recalibrate. I hope that her journey and testimony inspire you to break free from toxic thought patterns and to see yourself healed and moving forward. Maria shared from her heart and there are a lot of take-aways in her story. Every moment of every day you are changing your brain with your thoughts in a positive or negative direction. Every time you think and choose, you cause structural change in your brain. Your thoughts impact your spirit, soul and body. Dr. Caroline Leaf's 21 Day Detox - 5 daily steps Step 1: Gather 2 Corinthians 10:5 - “we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (What is the word or phrase that continually runs through your mind. Example: Could have, should have, would have, if only statements or if I wouldn't have done this...then that would have/haven't happened) Step 2: Focused Reflection Philippians 4:8-9 - “Finally brothers, whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” (Now, ask, answer and discuss your thoughts with yourself using lots of why questions. Example: Why do I have this thought repeat through my mind? Where or when did this thought originate? How does it affect me physically?) Step 3: Write Journaling your thoughts, as specifically as you can will help you add clarity to what thoughts are affecting you the most. Tear down the walls that may be blocking the progress and get to the root. When you can see it before your eyes, Holy Spirit can begin to bring revelation and healing for these different areas. Step 4: Revisit Time to revisit what you wrote. Look now at how to make change happen. You were not designed to carry these thoughts and burdens by yourself, invite Holy Spirit to reveal to you what you need to change. It's time we rewire our thoughts with His thoughts. Isaiah 55:8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," declares the LORD. Step 5: Active Reach Now put action behind it! This stage is where you begin to change your toxic thought into a positive thought. To reach out and say, “I choose to believe what God says about me!” This is where you reach beyond where you are. Example: It's not just the decision to forgive, it's the actual forgiving. It's not just the decision to stop dwelling on the past, but the actual removal of that thought and change to focus on the future. Time to line it up! I will not say this...I will say this.
One of the damages that trauma causes is when good things happen, the good and the trauma are sharing the same space within, so good things cannot be enjoyed and the bad overshadows everything. There can be a prolonged continuance of emotional degrees of staying in the moment of trauma. Hi's and low's manifest together. This week Latonia, and her guest Transformational Coach Jen Bridwell Oppenheim, discuss the importance of seeing good; even when bad things happen. They also have a discussion surrounding Jen's area of expertise; food, eating, and body image. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/a-womans-soul-restored/message
Rosemarie Smyth updates of the museum at the Bridewell in Tarbert Co Kerry
Bridewell Palace was built in the early 16th century as a residence for King Henry VIII. The palace was a unique structure because it deviated from the architectural designs of the time period by not having a great hall and featuring an elaborate staircase. It was also constructed around a large inner courtyard. Under Edward VI in the 1550s, Bridewell Palace was given to the City of London as a home for the city's homeless children and a place of punishment for “disorderly women.” It was run in conjunction with Bedlam Hospital throughout Shakespeare's lifetime and formed the blueprint for later large prisons, including the Clirkenwell Bridwell prison opened as a correctional institute for prostitutes and vagrants in 1615 and Tothill Fields Bridewell prison that was opened in 1618 in Westminster. The building itself was mostly destroyed by the Great Fire of London in 1666, but the reputation of Bridwell would far outlast the original structure, with the term “bridewell” continuing in use around the world into the present day as a term for a city's detention facility, usually close to a courthouse. Here today to explain the history of Bridewell Prison is our guest, Duncan Salkeld.

Just our second week here on Locked On Angels and we have another awesome guest, as Jeff Fletcher from the Orange County Register joins the podcast to chat about the Angels' pitching staff and how they are shaping up for far this spring. As the Angels Beat reporter for the OC Register, no one is more locked in to the clubhouse than Fletcher, and he shares his insights into the team's construction of the proposed six man rotation. Can Garrett Richards stay healthy and be the upper echelon starter the Angels need? Which of Matt Shoemaker, Tyler Skaggs, and Andrew Heaney will step up to provide support to the dynamic 1-2 punch of Ohtani and Richards? The final spot in the rotation seemingly will come down to Parker Bridwell, JC Ramirez, or Nick Tropeano providing a hybrid starter role to the previous five. With Ramirez out of minor league options, he seems destined for a long relief role in the bullpen, while Bridwell and Tropeano could have to get comfortable switching from Anaheim and Salt Lake City.Lastly, we cover the bullpen and if anyone can challenge Blake Parker for the closer role. What under-the-radar guys this spring have already impressed the coaching staff to possibly earn a spot in the bullpen come Opening Day? With Ramirez out of minor league options, he seems destined for a long relief role in the bullpen, while Bridwell and Tropeano could have to get comfortable switching from Anaheim and Salt Lake City. Infinite Arms, the follow-up to 2007's Cease To Begin, features Ben Bridwell's latest lineup as Band Of Horses. We like it, on the whole, but that doesn't stop us from picking some nits. We also welcome our colleague Jenna Carlesso to the podcast fold.
