Szymon Słupik regards himself as lucky. He tells us how he made enough money by the time he was 35 that he would never have to work again. We learn how growing up in communist Poland taught him to be enterprising, at ease with taking risks, and being open to opportunities, which he took time after time. He believes that the challenges of starting a business in 2021 are child's play compared to how things used to be for those who experienced communism . His trenchant views on thinking long term, focussing on quality, and working with passion and focus on things that he believes in are ones from which we can all learn. Szymon is an entrepreneur with a strong technology background in IT and Electronics. Szymon is a CTO at Silvair, the company he co-founded in 2011. Szymon is also chairing the Mesh Working Group at Bluetooth Special Interest Group. Silvair develops technology for low power wireless device networks based on the Bluetooth mesh standard. The company has been the key contributor to the standard itself, driving it since inception in 2014 to formal adoption of version 1 in 2017, as well as the evolution of future releases. SIlvair is a Delaware company, publicly traded on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE:SVRS). Szymon's previous companies were CDN (acquired by Comarch in 2004) and Wind Mobile (acquired by Ailleron in 2009). At Silvair Szymon is focused on long term projects which aim at solving difficult problems, contribute to improved quality of life and deliver lasting value. He strongly believes Bluetooth mesh is the winning standard for the Internet of Things and will enable significant energy savings globally as well as proliferation of modern food production technologies such as vertical farms. This podcast interview focuses on product innovation that gives B2C brands around the world the power to maximize eCommerce revenue the lean way. My guest is Greg Blazewicz, CEO of SALESmanago. Leave a comment or a question for Greg or Ton. Greg has over 20 years of experience in digital marketing. He holds two MA degrees: one in British Literature and Linguistics second in Business Management. His career started in marketing agencies in New York and London. For 6 years, held the position of Marketing Director at Comarch – one of the largest European IT solutions providers. In 2006, he was nominated as CEO of Interia, one of the largest horizontal internet portals in Europe listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, employing over 250 people. Greg is the author of the widely popular book “Marketing Automation Revolution”. He is also a lecturer at Universities, helping other technology startups. In 2008, he started as an entrepreneur creating software for marketing teams which led to founding SALESmanago Marketing Automation in 2011. Their mission: To enable every eCommerce team to be lean yet pragmatic and powerful and become the CEO's trusted revenue partner. This inspired me, and hence I invited Greg to my podcast. We explore how Greg took his business to €22 million ARR in a completely bootstrapped way. He shares his big lessons learned to build a business with staying power, how to find your own way of doing it, and why you shouldn't blindly follow the advice and rules of people outside your company.  Here's a quote from him: The early kind of growth was really about having complete freedom to experiment. And I think a team that is actually really open for change for experimentation for failures is not an obvious thing. People that were committing their lives. When you see a startup, you would have two, three, or at max five founders who work like crazy. I'd say, today we are almost 400 people in the business, and 30% of them work like founders. During this interview, you will learn four things: Why the essence of your SaaS product is not its features but the transformation it lets your users make How going into countries no one considers can build you an interesting competitive position How to create an organization where +30% of your employees showcase the determination of a founder How to arrive at a position where you can start funding from a position of strength (not desperation) For more information about the guest from this week: Greg Blazewicz Website SALESmanago Leave a comment or a question for Greg or Ton. Henrike: 1. Ich bin Furture-Creator und will Deutschland zukunftsfit machen 2. Ich habe immer Menschen zusammengebracht 3. Ich bin super Neugierig und wissbegierig. Rayk: Was ist Deine spezielle Expertise? Was gibst Du den Menschen weiter? Henrike: Wir gestallten Zukunft. Rayk: Was war beruflich Deine Weltmeisterschaft? Was will der Kunde wirklich? Rayk: Sehr, sehr cool. Also Kunden, Zugang, Know how, Produktions, Maschinen oder so. Bart shares his strategic view on some of the current key challenges for loyalty professionals, firstly to ensure they measure truly commercial metrics to ensure they are running a successful loyalty programme. He shares his views on the risks posed by industry disruptors offering short term marketing channels for restaurants and retailers, but at the expense of creating and owning long term direct relationships with their customers. He also highlights the risk of "excessive personalisation" - a trend which has become increasingly prevalent on social media channels, and the importance of balancing privacy and personalisation in a way that customers truly value.
