Simon Stjernholm's new book Sensing Islam: Engaging and Contesting the Senses in Muslim Religiosity (Bloomsbury Press, 2025) considers specific case studies of embodiment and oratory productions by Muslims in Denmark, Sweden, and Cyprus. In the chapter on approaching God, we learn how rituals such as du‘a (intercessory prayers) or dhikr (remembrance of God) informs sensorial experiences of the divine, particularly intimate ones, while the discussion on meditating on Muhammad considers the bodily aspects of Prophet Muhammad, such as his saliva, urine, and sweat that influence mawlid literatures and ritual performance of them within Sufi communities like the Naqshbandi-Haqqanis. Though rituals emerging from embodied understandings of holy figures are not without some tension, as we learn throughout the book but especially during the discussion on graves. Here the interred bodies of Sufi saints are caught up in debates around the permissibility of shrine visitation, a topic that comes up amongst lectures given by Swedish Muslim leaders. Overall, then, through analysis of Danish and Swedish podcast materials, ritual practices, such as devotion to the Prophet Muhammad and Sufi saints, we understand more about the sonic and pious dimensions of Islam and the Muslim authorial voices and listening that shapes them. This book will be of interest to those who work on sound studies, material culture, Sufism and Islam in Europe. Learn more about your ad choices. In this How To Live In Archiarchy Study Group #135 meeting on 20 May 2025 we asked a quorum of Possibilitators to decide whether or not Possibility Management should join the Global Alliance for Archiarchy to create and forward a Global Gaian Constitution as an alternative to the corporate and banking controlled system now in place. "We are putting before humanity that there is a real choice. Either we keep allowing the corporations to run the world, or we could do something else. Nobody could actually stop us if this is what we want to do. It is a very good idea for 99% of life on Earth. For the 1%, not so much. Does Possibility Management want to be a partner in this project?" The response was that all members gave a 10 'insistence', using the Torus Meeting Technology Resistance Decision Making Process. "Let it be known that, as a result of this quorum, Possibility Management is a 'ten' insistence in our acceptance of and participation in the proposal made by Aon Solarra. We shall henceforward proceed thusly!" The next phase of the project is an assembly called '10 Days That Could Change The World' scheduled for 1-10 September 2025 in Denmark. JOIN SHERI HORN HASAN @ FOR THIS WEEK'S ASTROLOGICALLY SPEAKING PODCAST WHICH DROPS MAY 30 @https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speakingThis podcast explores how the recent history between the May 17 Sun/Uranus conjunction & the May 24 Mercury/Uranus conjunction in Taurus, & the May 29/30 superior conjunction of the Sun with Mercury direct in Gemini have awakened us through unexpected sudden revelations--of the “I can see clearly now” kind--between then and now.Awakened us to what? Well, when we look at the symbolism--from the announcement on May 18 of former president Joe Biden's stage 4 prostate cancer to May 22's U.S. House passage of its “friendly to the rich” budget reconciliation bill & May 24's yet again flip flop on tariffs by President Trump—we start to see a pattern. And that pattern, combined with announcements made between May 28-30--including a court ruling banning Trump's on-again-off-again tariffs followed by a swift reversal of that ruling, along with the announcement of pardons for convicted individuals who have donated bigly to Trump--starts to smell like something's rotten in Denmark. What we may have missed the first two Sun & Mercury conjunctions to Uranus in Taurus, that's inherent now in this latest Sun/Mercury get together in Gemini, is the sleight of hand deceit and deception that's been going on all along. This clearly correlate Gemini's archetypal role & reputation as the trickster, who uses more devious ways to fool those around him. What's different now, however, is the fact that deceit usually takes place behind the scenes. But when we equate Biden's sudden announcement on May 18 with the symbolic nature of the currently ongoing U.S. Pluto return, we glean from the symbolism that something that's been hidden for a long time has now become obvious. Since the prostate is archetypally aligned with Pluto's Scorpio, & Biden's illness was reportedly long in the making but unknown to his doctors, this sudden revelation symbolizes how the U.S. has likewise been rotting from the inside out for quite some time & we simply never noticed. Now, however, all of these recent Sun, Mercury, & Uranus aspects in the sky have alerted us to the fact that this current president's grift-- now so commonplace, so boldly out in the open--is so easily accepted by those who could/should call it out for what it is. As the rest of us begin to understand with greater clarity that the emperor truly has NO clothes, we likewise recognize those who benefit from both his grift & his delusions.  So, as we wax into this month's first quarter “crisis in action” lunar square of the Virgo Moon to the Gemini Sun on June 2--accompanied by June 1's Venus/Chiron/Eris conjunction in Aries—we now see the tension between verifiable Virgoan facts & Geminian casual passage of non-verified information. And how much of the latter was behind such “you can't have possibly missed it” glaringly obvious financial transactions by now.Venus moves into its own sign of Taurus June 5/6, depending on your time zone, while Mercury conjoins Jupiter in Gemini June 8. Shortly after, Mercury will enter the Moon-ruled sign of Cancer June 8, & Jupiter follows suit on June 9. Our emotional sensitivity heightened, we then may begin to expand our intuitive capabilities to see beyond our more boundaried local scenario into wider, longer-term implications for the future.Join us for this Astro News You Can Use & more @https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speaking dropping May 30 as we look ahead also at the upcoming waxing first quarter square of Mars to Uranus & Jupiter to Saturn on June 15, & as we approach the big military presidential birthday bash on June 14. The question is whether there will be some sudden shocks or surprises, given the addition of another Uranus aspect forming, this time with potentially explosive or violent Mars…tune in to find out more!See you then, namaste…

Today, that gamble is paying off with a powerful partnership between the university and local industry, most notably Brentwood Industries. Peter Rye, CEO of Brentwood Industries, brought a global mindset to his leadership — shaped by life in Denmark, Canada, and now Reading — that emphasizes outward-looking innovation.Support WITF: https://www.witf.org/support/give-now/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Emanuele Orsini — the head of Italy's largest business lobby — called for Meloni to cut energy costs and pave the way for a return to nuclear energy at the annual assembly for Confindustria, where Meloni again acknowledged her country's energy problems, Reuters reported. “Our companies continue to suffer from an energy (price) surcharge of more than 35% over the European average, even reaching peaks of 80% when compared to the largest European countries,” Orsini said at the assembly, according to Reuters. Meloni has expressed support for expanding nuclear energy in Italy, as have other officials, including the Minister of Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin. So where's Bernie Sanders, the champion of Nordic-style welfare states, when one of his favorites makes a common-sense reform? In this segment, we break down Denmark's bold move, the math behind unsustainable retirement systems, and the political cowardice in Washington that's allowing Social Security to barrel toward a 20% cut. Welcome to another Trilogies episode where Anders & Adam Holmes move (briefly) away from a Galaxy, Far, Far, Away to war torn Italy. This episode we look at Roberto Rossellini's War Trilogy. Roberto Rossellini (father of Isabella Rossellini, plus ex-father in law to Martin Scorsese) was one of the most prominent directors of Italian Neo-Realist Cinema. A film movement where its stories focused mainly on the poor and working class. Films about everyday life, poverty and oppression. Films shot on location and used primarily non-classically trained actors. Actors basically picked off the street essentially. The Bicycle Thieves is a perfect example of Italian Neo-Realism. The movement influenced French New Wave for example. Along with Rossellini, other Italian filmmakers like Vittorio De Sica and Luchino Visconti popularised this very influential film movement. Rossellini's Neo-Realist War Trilogy started with Rome, Open City (1945), Paisan (1946) and concluded with Germany Year Zero (1948). Some of the first post-war films made in Italy and films that helped shape Italian Neo-Realism. Rome, Open City has a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is part of the Vatican's Important Films list. It's listed under the category Values. We hope you like this episode and stay tuned for more Trilogies episode. We will be putting a pause on our Trilogies series and moving onto another series of episodes we have in the works: Fascism On Film. Allen Hall: Leading off the week, Norway has launched the first part of its long awaited, inaugural floating wind tender, offering subsidies to the winners. Bidders will be awarded rights to develop commercial projects of up to 500 megawatts in capacity at the Utsira Nord site off the country's southwest coast. The winners will have two years to mature the projects before competing in an auction for subsidies in 2028 to 2029 to be provided as a direct grant. Norway's Energy Minister said Utsira Nord is an important first step in the development of commercial floating offshore wind development on the Norwegian continental shelf. Norway has agreed to cap subsidies for Utsira Nord at 35 billion Norwegian crowns equal to about [00:01:00] $3.7 billion. Over in Denmark, Denmark has announced the launch of offshore wind tenders with a capacity of three gigawatts, enough to power approximately 3 million homes. According to the Danish Energy Ministry, the tenders set to open in autumn of this year, we'll cover two areas in the North Sea. One in the water separating Denmark and Sweden. The initiative comes with the potential subsidy of up to 55.2 billion Danish crowns equal to about $8.32 billion over a span of 20 years. Last year, Denmark halted its ongoing offshore wind tenders to reevaluate its subsidy model after failing to attract any bids and what was supposed to be its largest offshore wind auction. The Danish Energy Ministry clarified that bid prices and electricity price developments will dictate whether further subsidies are necessary or if the state might even generate revenue from the projects. And in the Netherlands, the Dutch government has [00:02:00] delayed tendering for two offshore wind sites. Uh, companies were scheduled to compete for three permits in October this year for construction and operation of new wind farms in the North Sea. However, two of the sites will now be tendered later, just one site. Nederwiek 1-A has been designated for the next offshore wind tunnel with the capacity of about one gigawatt. For the Nederwiek 1 Wind Farm, the tender criteria have been adjusted to improve the business case for offshore wind. The Ministry of Climate and Green Growth said it is taking these measures to make the upcoming tender round more attractive and to allow the construction of offshore wind farms to proceed at a realistic pace. The Nederwiek 1-A wind farm will supply about three and a 5% of Dutch electricity consumption once completed. And in South Korea, south Korea's, Jeonnam 1 Wind Farm has officially entered commercial operation. The 96 megawatt project is owned by a joint venture between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and SK Innovations [00:03:00] ENS, the installation of 10 Siemens ga MEA 10 megawatt Direct Drive turbines was completed in December of last year. Commissioning followed earlier this year. Originally from Denmark, the youngest ever three-starred Michelin chef Esben Holmboe Bang fell in love with his wife's homeland Norway, as well as its seasonal cuisine. For Esben every flavour is a note, and the secret of the perfect dish is to build those notes into a symphony. He only uses local produce for the menu at his restaurant in Oslo, Maaemo, and he collects many ingredients from the local forest. He aims to tell the story of Norway through food and respects the ancient crafts of preservation like pickling and dehydrating which sustained communities through the dark winter months in Scandinavia.
