New research suggests that the clustering of pyramids along the western desert margin of the Nile floodplain indicates that the area may once have been served by a large watercourse capable of supporting ambitious construction projects. Radar indicates the presence of a dried-up riverbed snaking through 62 miles of desert, likely for agricultural reasons. Historian Herodotus likewise documents the usage of Nile water in the importance of Pyramidal functions. Far away in Indonesia, research is also indicating that Gunung Padang is actually a 27,000 year old pyramid, dating extensively older than the Djoser pyramid in Egypt. Archaeologists found a pit full of giant dismembered hands near an ancient Egyptian king's palace, hinting that warriors may have offered the king the hands of their defeated enemies as trophies. Another cool discovery is a 52-foot-long papyrus scroll from the Book of the Dead, found in a coffin near the Step Pyramid of Djoser. In Cairo, two massive statues from around 1150 BC were unearthed, believed to be of Ramses II and his grandson, Seti II, with the latter having a perfectly symmetrical face, which is super impressive for the time. They also discovered hundreds of baboon mummies, showing how much ancient Egyptians revered these animals and imported them from far-off lands. In this episode, we delve deeper into the top ten pyramids of the world according to the TV show "Ancient Aliens." Our focus is on the Egyptian pyramids and the myths surrounding their construction. We will examine the Djoser Step Pyramid, the oldest pyramid on the list, and discuss how it was built as a tomb for the third dynastic ruler, Netjerikhet. We will also discuss the great pyramid builder Sneferu and his contributions to Ancient Egypt's creation of a true pyramid building. One of the most controversial topics surrounding the Egyptian pyramids is the discovery of human remains. Many alternative historians claim that there is no credible evidence of bodies ever being entombed in the pyramids. However, this is simply not true. Carbon dating has shown that at least two pharaohs seem to have been found in their pyramids, and there is evidence of remains in several others. The pyramid of Djoser, for example, contained human remains, although they were found to be from a later burial and not from the pharaoh himself. Nevertheless, the pyramid was designed to be a tomb from the beginning, as evidenced by texts from ancient visitors in the mortuary temple who talk about their visit to the grave. In a way, every Critics' Roundtable episode feels like a time capsule. Each month, the show documents the tracks and talents on the personal playlists of RA staffers, serving as a snapshot of the musical zeitgeist at the time. On this edition, staff writer Kiana Mickles, software engineer Alex Wanyoike and senior writer Nyshka Chandran outline their most listened to records from the past three months and noteworthy artists in their respective cities. Discussing Kelela's long-awaited return from a long hiatus, the trio note how her new single marks a departure from her earlier club-oriented cuts. Moving onto the production duo of Abdul Raeva, whose heavy-hitting style brought back memories of the '90s UK label Orbital Records, the conversation gets into the ever-evolving palette of rave music. Djoser in Washington, DC, is more percussive techno than pure rave but he's a key US name who's leading the way for innovative club music and his dextrous drum work on his latest EP, Expand, gets a mention here. Shifting gears, the trio go on to describe some of their favourite local acts such as Damo B, a Manchester veteran with an extensive radio career. River Moon in New York also wins praise for breaking the mould of "techno stoicism," a term that describes when artists take themselves far too seriously. For more details on artists to watch and the trio's favourite RA's mixes of the year, listen to the conversation.

Egypt displayed a trove of ancient artifacts dating back 2,500 years that the country's antiquities authorities said were recently unearthed at the famed necropolis of Saqqarah near Cairo on Monday, May 30. The artifacts were showcased at a makeshift exhibit at the feet of the Step Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqarah, 24 kilometers (15 miles) southwest of the Egyptian capital. According to Mostafa Waziri, head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, the find includes 250 painted sarcophagi with well-preserved mummies inside, as well as 150 bronze statues of ancient deities and bronze vessels used in rituals of Isis, the goddess of fertility in ancient Egyptian mythology, all from the Late Period, about 500 B.C. A headless bronze statue of Imhotep, the chief architect of Pharaoh Djoser who ruled ancient Egypt between 2630 B.C. and 2611 B.C was also displayed. The artifacts will be transferred for a permanent exhibit at the new Grand Egyptian Museum, a mega project still under construction near the famed Giza Pyramids, just outside Cairo. The Saqqarah site is part of a sprawling necropolis at Egypt's ancient capital of Memphis that includes the Giza Pyramids and the smaller pyramids at Abu Sir, Dahshur and Abu Ruwaysh. The ruins of Memphis were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1970s. Egypt has been heavily promoting recent archaeological finds, hoping to attract more tourists to the country. Its tourist sector, a major source of foreign currency, suffered from years of political turmoil and violence following the 2011 uprising that toppled autocrat Hosni Mubarak. The sector has recently started to recover from the coronavirus pandemic, only to be hit again by the effects of Russia's war on Ukraine. Along with Russia, Ukraine is a major source of tourists visiting Egypt. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Discontinuous progress in history: an update, published by KatjaGrace on LessWrong. I. The search for discontinuities We've been looking for historic cases of discontinuously fast technological progress, to help with reasoning about the likelihood and consequences of abrupt progress in AI capabilities. We recently finished expanding this investigation to 37 technological trends.1 This blog post is a quick update on our findings. See the main page on the research and its outgoing links for more details. We found ten events in history that abruptly and clearly contributed more to progress on some technological metric than another century would have seen on the previous trend.2 Or as we say, we found ten events that produced ‘large', ‘robust' ‘discontinuities'. How we measure the size of a discontinuity (by Rick Korzekwa) Another five events caused robust discontinuities of between ten and a hundred years (‘moderate robust discontinuities'). And 48 more events caused some trend to depart from our best guess linear or exponential extrapolation of its past progress by at least ten years (and often a hundred), but did so in the context of such unclear past trends that this did not seem clearly remarkable.3 I call all of these departures ‘discontinuities', and distinguish those that are clearly outside plausible extrapolations of the past trend, according to my judgment, as ‘robust discontinuities'.4 Much of the data involved in this project seems at least somewhat unreliable, and the methods involve many judgments, and much ignoring of minor issues. So I would not be surprised if more effort could produce numerous small changes. However I expect the broad outlines to be correct.5 II. The discontinuities Large robust discontinuities Here is a quick list of the robust 100-year discontinuous events, which I'll describe in more detail beneath: The Pyramid of Djoser, 2650BC (discontinuity in structure height trends) The SS Great Eastern, 1858 (discontinuity in ship size trends) The first telegraph, 1858 (discontinuity in speed of sending a 140 character message across the Atlantic Ocean) The second telegraph, 1866 (discontinuity in speed of sending a 140 character message across the Atlantic Ocean) The Paris Gun, 1918 (discontinuity in altitude reached by man-made means) The first non-stop transatlantic flight, in a modified WWI bomber, 1919 (discontinuity in both speed of passenger travel across the Atlantic Ocean and speed of military payload travel across the Atlantic Ocean) The George Washington Bridge, 1931 (discontinuity in longest bridge span) The first nuclear weapons, 1945 (discontinuity in relative effectiveness of explosives) The first ICBM, 1958 (discontinuity in average speed of military payload crossing the Atlantic Ocean) YBa2Cu3O7 as a superconductor, 1987 (discontinuity in warmest temperature of superconduction) The Pyramid of Djoser, 2650BC Discontinuity in structure height trends6 The Pyramid of Djoser is considered to be ‘the earliest colossal stone structure' in Egypt. According to Wikipedia's data, it took seven thousand years for the tallest structures to go from five to thirteen meters tall7 and then suddenly the Egyptian pyramids shot up to a height of 146.5m over about a hundred years and five successively tallest pyramids. The Pyramid of Djoser, By Charles J Sharp – Own work, from Sharp Photography, sharpphotography, CC BY-SA 3.0, Link The first of these five is the Pyramid of Djoser, standing 62.5m tall. The second one—Meidum Pyramid—is also a large discontinuity in structure height trends by our calculation, but I judge it not robust, since it is fairly unclear what the continuation of the trend should be after the first discontinuity. As is common, the more basic thing going on seems to be a change in the growth rate, and the discontinuity of the P...

Sebbene fosse originariamente racchiuso in blocchi di calcare fine, il suo nucleo è costituito da piccoli blocchi di calcare locale e riempimento di detriti. #Reteti #Piramidi #Saqqara #AnubiTv #Antico Egitto

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness is a 2020 true crime documentary television series about the life of Joseph Maldonado-Passage.[1] It was released on Netflix on March 20, 2020.[2] The series focuses on the small but deeply interconnected society of big cat conservationists like #CaroleBaskin, owner of Big Cat Rescue, and collectors such as Maldonado-Passage (a.k.a. "Joe Exotic") who Baskin accuses of abusing and exploiting the wild animals. weki #TigerKing Pyramid Doc 1 =Egypt's Ten Greatest Discoveries Pyramid Doc 2 The Revelation Of The Pyramids The Egyptian #pyramids are ancient pyramid-shaped masonry structures located in Egypt. As of November 2008, sources cite either 118 or 138 as the number of identified Egyptian pyramids.[1][2] Most were built as tombs for the country's pharaohs and their consorts during the Old and Middle Kingdom periods.[3][4][5] weki The earliest known Egyptian pyramids are found at Saqqara, northwest of Memphis. The earliest among these is the Pyramid of Djoser, which was built c. 2630–2610 BC during the Third Dynasty.[6] This pyramid and its surrounding complex were designed by the architect Imhotep, and are generally considered to be the world's oldest monumental structures constructed of dressed masonry.[7] The most famous Egyptian pyramids are those found at Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo. Several of the Giza pyramids are counted among the largest structures ever built.[8] The Pyramid of Khufu at Giza is the largest Egyptian pyramid. It is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still in existence. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/vegansteven/message
