Todays episode explores the concept of authenticity in interior design and how our access to a vast amount of design inspiration can hinder our ability to create authentic spaces. Nico emphasizes the importance of being aware of the drawbacks of collecting too much information and inspiration, as it can lead to decision-making difficulties and decreased productivity. Living authentically has benefits such as increased psychological well-being, reduced anxiety and stress, and improved relationships. Nico also reflects on how the process of sourcing inspiration has changed with the rise of social media and encourages listeners to set boundaries and be mindful of their own preferences and patterns when gathering inspiration. She advises paying attention to the function and aesthetic appeal of the space and incorporating personal interests and life stories through art and accessories. Nico believes that living an authentic life and creating an authentic home can lead to better decision-making, increased happiness, and a sense of self-assurance.yourPARO website: www.yourparo.comFREE RESOURCES yourPARO Weekly: www.yourparo.com/weeklyBathroom Serenity Guide www.yourparo.com/bathroom-serenityLiving Room Essentials Guide: www.yourparo.com/living-room-know-howyourPARO mini series waitlist: www.yourparo.com/miniseriesNico' Instagram https://www.instagram.com/nico_smutylo/yourPARO Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/yourparo/
Hello to you listening in Woodinville, Washington!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. We are not used to people of advanced years, seniors, elders, crones, old folks becoming prolific in the waning years of their lives. And yet, witness recently departed 81 year old musician David Crosby who in 2014, when he was 72 years of age released his first solo album in 21 years, “Croz,” which debuted in the Billboard Top 40. Following that Mr. Crosby released five solo albums, most recently “For Free” in 2021 at the age of 79. He was quoted in 2019 saying that his late-in-life resurgence was sparked by his realization that “at this stage, you don't know if you've got two weeks or 10 years,” adding, “Really what matters is what you do with whatever time you have.”As I get ready to celebrate my Happy Continuation Day on February 4th I know I've not yet earned Mr. Crosby's advanced age nor resurgence of prolific output; however, today I am doing what matters because I don't know how much time I have. What matters? I help people and organizations find the words they don't know they have to tell the story that communicates their values, purpose and vision.I cannot say I do change the world; but I cannot say I don't.Call to Action: If you are curious about how to find the words to tell your story, what you're about so you connect and succeed in the spirit of who you are, let's work together. Stories are for the listener. Find your voice, find your story. Beatrice started her career as a journalist, but the medium didn't offer the freedom to tell stories in the way she felt they deserved, so she became a documentary filmmaker. She believes that listening is an important part of storytelling, because they are for the listener, not the teller. Gather around the campfire as we discuss how to find your story, find your voice, and how to tell your story well with Extreme Perspectives.

How do we make our ideal reader say Oh—THIS is the book for me?In our first two episodes, we dug down into why we write and how to share that why with the reader. In the last episode, we hung a quick right and got really practical about that reader and how to reach her–in other words, we talked about the market and why it’s important to understand where your book will sit on the shelf if you want the right readers to find it.In this episode, we’re going to talk about what happens when one of those potential readers picks your book up off that shelf–and turns it over. That means we’re talking jacket copy! You might have heard writing advice that basically says, quit daydreaming about what your cover will look like before you’ve written your book–but we’re not talking about the cover art. Jacket copy is important and drafting it now will help you find your story. It’s the promise you make to the reader–so the sooner you write it, the harder you can focus on keeping it–or changing it. Plus, it’s useful in a whole lot of ways.Like your point, your jacket copy is probably something you will come back to again and again as you write your book—but every time, it will help you hone your mission and clarify why you’re still sitting in that chair, typing away. This is the fourth episode in the 10-part Blueprint for a Book Series. Start with Step 1, do the work (we’ll give you an assignment every week), and in 10 weeks, you’ll have a solid foundation for a first draft or revision of your project that will help you push through to “the end”. For the details on the challenge, and to sign up for weekly encouragement, bonuses and the chance to win a blueprint critique, head to authoraccelerator.com/amwritingblueprintchallenge. YOUR ASSIGNMENTWrite jacket copy for the book you want to write. Study the jacket copy of the comp titles you found in Step 3 to get a feel for how it should sound. Make it no more than 250 words.(Note: We suggest you download a Blueprint answer workbook to keep track of your 10 assignments. That will make it easier to revise, review and come back to your work. Click to grab yours for fiction or nonfiction. If you are writing narrative memoir (a story), use the fiction workbook and assignments. If you are writing self-help/memoir, use the nonfiction workbook and assignments. Prefer paper? Tape the assignment into your journal and make a nice big heading so you know: This is Step 4. This is Jacket Copy.)LINKSThe Bohemians, Jasmin DarznikEat Pray Love, Elizabeth GilbertWe Need to Talk: A Memoir About Wealth, Jennifer RisherMaking Numbers Count, Karla Starr & Chip HeathMade to Stick, Chip Heath & Dan HeathMiss Independent, Nicole LapinThe S**t No One Tells You About Writing PodcastBlueprint for a Book (Fiction and Memoir)Blueprint for a Nonfiction BookTODAY’S COACHESMichelle Cox loves helping women in midlife and people in recovery tell their truths through fiction and nonfiction. Sharing in the excitement of our students' success is such a privilege for our team at the Speaker Lab! Our Director of Student Success, Maryalice Goldsmith, is taking the mic for our Student Highlight series so you can hear directly from our students about their experiences and what they want you to know about growing your speaking business. He credits (or blames!) his mom for directing him to a career on the stage after she made him attend dance lessons with his sister at age 8. When Mike Anthony moved to New York City to become an actor, he’d imagined being under the bright lights of Broadway, living a life full of fame and fortune. Instead, he took a job not on stage for a Broadway show, but behind its bar, and found a life full of meaning. In Life at Hamilton: Sometimes You Throw Away Your Shot, Only to Find Your Story (Waterside, 2020), Mike takes us along on his journey, recounting his extraordinary experiences as Hamilton rocketed into Broadway history, from its unparalleled opening night, through the 2016 election, to its COVID-19 intermission. On display along the way are Mike’s heartfelt and often humorous encounters with the show’s patrons, including some of the most famous celebrities in the world, and its biggest (and littlest) Hamilfans. Mike’s story is a testament to the potent power of theater to connect, to inspire, and to heal. For as long as there have been people, they have put on plays. Life At Hamilton reminds us why. You don’t need to have a big story to be a great speaker! You just need to know how all your little stories that have life lessons within them can be crafted into a captivating presentation. A talk that has your audience totally spellbound from the very first moment you open your mouth leaving them wanting more when you finish. This is what Rachel Maunder does as she helps speakers to find and hone their stories. KEY TAKEAWAY “If you are holding back from telling your story because you've got that voice in your head saying, who do you think you are to share your story? I would say to you, if someone somewhere needs to hear your story to help them take the next step to make their life better, I would turn that round and say Who do you think you are not to share it?” ABOUT RACHEL MAUNDER One of Rachel Maunder’s first observations about successful speakers was they all seemed to have a powerful story to share – and she didn’t have one. This started her journey towards realising that everyday stories can be equally inspirational to an audience and that we all have a wealth of those. Passionate about inspiring people to speak up and inspire others by sharing their stories, both big and small, Rachel helps emerging speakers to hone their stories and to weave them into their own presentations for maximum effect. Melanie Deziel is the founder and Chief Content Officer of StoryFuel, and the author of the best selling marketing and business communications book “The Content Fuel Framework: How to Generate Unlimited Story ideas.” She is an international keynote speaker, skilled virtual presenter, and is recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in native advertising […] The post Find Your Story with Mel Deziel appeared first on erinking.com.
Whether you work for a corporate brand - or you’re a personal brand - we all have something in common. In order to persuade people to buy from us, work with us, or tell others about us, we have to be able to create powerful messages and stories that connect with our intended audience, and position us for success. So, wouldn’t it be nice if there was some type of framework that could help us to choose a focus and format to tell our story, so we could create content that serves our mission in the best possible way? Well, thankfully, there is a framework, and my guest today literally wrote the book on it. Melanie Deziel is a keynote speaker, award-winning branded content creator, and a lifelong storyteller on a mission to share the power of creating compelling and credible content with others. Melanie is the Founder and Chief Content Officer of StoryFuel, a company that teaches marketers, creators and organizations how to tell better brand stories, and she’s the author of the best-selling book - The Content Fuel Framework: How to Generate Unlimited Story Ideas. I’ve enjoyed reading Melanie’s book, and have found the 10 x 10 content fuel framework helpful as I’ve had to re-think how I connect with my community, and share my message while speaking on stages around the world is not an option. In our conversation today, Melanie shares how her experience as a journalist and content strategist for some of the most well-known companies and brands in the world was helpful to her when she decided to start and market her own business, and how she’s now on a mission to help others to create content that they can be proud of, and will get their messages heard. Topics Discussed In This Episode: How the storytelling process used by corporate brands is similar to telling your own story as a personal brand. The importance of understanding what is important to you, the message that you want to convey to your audience, and how your personal experiences can provide relevance and timeliness about your topic. How Melanie applied her experience as a journalist and with storytelling to market her business once she went out on her own. How volunteering to help sales people with client pitches led to Melanie becoming a successful international keynote speaker. How the 10 x 10 grid of the Content Fuel Framework evolved from a series of presentations, to a workshop, then a keynote, and ultimately a book. The challenges associated with launching a book during a global pandemic, and how Melanie has gotten creative to promote the book in non-traditional ways. How to choose a focus and format to tell your story, and to create content that serves your mission in the best possible way. Two things that a company - or a person - needs to consider before creating and sharing content, in order to get their message heard. 2-Minute Tip: Know 3 Stories While it’s helpful to have lots of stories at your disposal, there are three types that will help you in speeches, job interviews and client interactions. They are Underdog, Authority, and Fixer. The Underdog story is the story of where you came from. It’s the obstacles life put in your path and how you got over, around, under, or through them to get where you are today. The Authority is the story about your expertise. How do you know what you know? Why should people listen to you? What makes you different from other folks they could be listening to right now? The Fixer story is about what you do to help others. How can you help this audience? What will you do or what will you enable them to do? With those three stories in your pocket you can are better prepared for any audience. When we talk about pathos, ethos, and logos as being crucial to persuasive success, these three stories support the often neglected ethos side of the pyramid. Post Tip Discussion: Meet Zack Hudson I and my guests talk a lot about Storytelling in public speaking. And I talk about it more with Zack today. One thing that makes today’s conversation a little different is that we get a little bit deeper into the process of finding your stories. Because that is what Zack does with his clients — he helps them find and tell their stories. The fact is everyone has stories to tell, even if we don’t realize it. Bio Today Zack not only speaks and consults with organizations. He also live the corporate executive life with more than 500 people in his organization across the southern US. From Zack’s website: I grew up in Louisiana and never saw a swamp until I was a teenager. I loved my town and the dream was to never leave and become mayor. That plan was dramatically altered when I met a certain redhead. She captured my heart and after getting married, we moved off to start our own adventure. We relocated all over the South and started a family along the way. During the journey, I had a hunger to grow as a leader and discovered there were many others out there that had that same fire. Since then, I’ve developed many leaders to become more than what they thought they could be. Many have gotten the job they’ve always wanted or ended up at their dream locations. One of my greatest joys is seeing others hit their personal goals. Today, I lead about 500 employees across six states and spend much of my time developing them to be the leaders that they are called to be. I also help others across the globe reach their potential through the Passing the Baton Leadership Podcast and it’s resources. What you may not know: I’ve made it to 38 of the 50 states so far. I minored in jazz bass in college. I’ve chest-bumped a whale shark. My daughter lived in 5 cities by the time she was 5. Sharon and I love Disney more than just about anything. I jumped out of a plane…with my mom. I served in the military. Pies are my weakness. I’ve survived running with the bulls and hang gliding. I’ve been in movies and TV shows. 5 Tips for Finding you Story Do some free writing while you think about incidents from the past couple of weeks Use a text app or speak into a voice recorder if writing is not your thing Focus on authentic personal stories; don’t try to fake it. Prepare your story before you tell it. Practice it; don’t improvise it. Get feedback from friends and colleagues before delivering it in front of a “real” audience Heart and Stroke Walk 2019 Regular listeners may know that I had a stroke on June 3, 2017. Anna continues the series on personal branding, this week looking at how to find the story that you want to tell (or, more accurately, that you want to be told about you). (4:00) “It’s all very well to talk about how you do consulting for this, or you help people do that, or you sell these various things. But why do you do what you do? And, importantly, why should other people care?” (7:55) “Of course you value ‘integrity’, ‘honesty’, ‘good customer service’ – otherwise, I would argue, you shouldn’t be in business in the first place! – so try not to be generic and don’t try to be “noble” for the sake of it.” (11:33) “The mistake I see people make here is that they focus on the immediate and almost superficial result that people will get from working with you. To exaggerate the point, a copywriter might say that they help clients write great copy; a virtual assistant helps people with their admin; and a personal trainer will say that they help clients with their training and fitness. So what?!” *If you like what you hear, then make sure that you subscribe to the podcast so that you never miss an episode!* This is all about you, so Anna will be asking you for input, questions, feedback to help her create content that answers your needs and helps you with whatever you’re working on at the moment. Waiting for the muse to strike? Give it up and get writing. Here are five creation stories from the archives to inspire you, from novelists Beryl Bainbridge, John Fowles, Daphne du Maurier, Roald Dahl and Ray Bradbury.
The term https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storyteller (storyteller) seems to be one of the more misunderstood or misused vocational words in the past decade. Certainly this seems to be the case in a world of ad agencies, video production companies, and self-styled online entrepreneurs. http://storypage.com/ ( Joel ben Izzy) is the answer to this rampant misuse. He is quite literally a professional storyteller. And I was fortunate enough to have met him on a film job last year, where I was incredibly impressed at the way in which he not only presented stories from a stage, but how he convinced his audience that they too – each and every one of them – had their own stories to tell and why it was important for them to be telling them. So, I only found it appropriate to ask Joel to be on the show to share his wisdom, inspiration, and yes, a few stories with the future storytellers of the documentary world (aka #DocLifers). I hope y'all enjoyed and benefit from this conversation even half as much as I did. Hamilton has an interesting way of summing up his 33 years spent helping small businesses to grow: “Human communication changes, human nature does not.” Of course, I agree.
