A win over Torino in the first Derby della Mole of the 2024-25 season and a second straight win in Serie A gave Juventus some much-needed momentum heading into the November international break. On Episode 257 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: Takeaways from the Juventus week that was. Thoughts on Juventus' win over Torino in the Derby della Mole. As Dusan Vlahovic continues to be an enigma at the top of Juve's attack, the other forwards on Thiago Motta's roster have started to hit a rich vein of form and carried the goal scoring load of late. Manuel Locatelli is back to being good again. Andrea Cambiaso continues to be one of Juventus' best players this season. The new-look Champions League has the “league phase” at its midway point. So how are Juventus looking knowing that there still a good number of big fixtures remaining? Twitter questions — including Moise Kean's red-hot start to life at Fiorentina, if it's better to have one or two big-time goal scorers or if it's better to have a much more balanced outlay of goals, and what are the least and most concerning things about the state of Juventus as we head into the November international break. Coming off a sub-par showing against one of Serie A's new clubs, Juventus were able to right the ship with a much-needed win over Udinese that saw some positives take place after some worrying signs earlier in the week. On Episode 256 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: Takeaways from the week that was. Thoughts on Juventus' win over Udinese, which was a much more enjoyable watch tnan Juve's 2-2 draw with Parma earlier in the week. The improving form of midfielders like Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram. The not-so-improving form of Juve captain Danilo. Are we starting to worry about Dusan Vlahovic's lack of consistent goal scoring form again? Twitter questions — including what things might look like when things fully click on with Teun Koopmeiners and the rest of the midfield, why hasn't Thiago Motta entrusted a young player to potentially back up Dusan Vlahovic like he's done with other players on the roster, and just how much of a priority is a signing in centrel defense come the January transfer window. Thiago Motta's second official match as Juventus manager ended up being a lot like the first, with a 3-0 scoreline and a strong overall performance after things kicked into gear paving the way for more early-season success. On Episode 246 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast we discuss: Takeaways from the win over Hellas Verona — including how the midfield partnership (especially Manuel Locatelli) looked good once again, how Nicolo Savona certainly announced his arrival in his first-ever start with the Juventus senior team, and how damn well Bremer has looked to open the season in a four-man backline. How Juventus has looked in the first two weeks of the season has been ... refreshing! How things changed for Motta and Juventus once things kicked into gear against Hellas Verona. Just because we're two matches into the season doesn't mean there isn't other stuff going on — there's still a few short days left in the summer transfer window and there's still some major business to close on. How do we. see the new signings and soon-to-be signing(s) fit into things with Juventus playing so well to start the new season. Twitter questions — including if Federico Gatti is now one of the best Juventus captains ever, who has impressed the most during the first two matchdays of the season, if there has been anything that's overly concerning about the Juventus' first two performances, and who should actually sit when the new signings arrive despite everyone playing so well. In a summer in which Juventus are far from flush with cash, Cristiano Giuntoli appears to be resigned to cashing in on two of his young assets, Matias Soulé and Dean Huijsen, who are both two of the biggest names to come out of the Next Gen program. On Episode 241 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: The possibility — or likelihood — that both Matias Soulé and Dean Huijsen are going to be sold to generate funds for other transfers this summer. Juventus did make some business official in the last week, signing Hellas Verona defender Juan Cabal from under Inter Milan's nose. We always like when that happens. Juventus are set to play their first friendly under new manager Thiago Motta on Friday. What are we looking forward to when the Bianconeri take the field in Germany? Twitter questions — including what could be Manuel Locatelli's role this season with all of the midfield upgrades that have been made, and should Juventus fly the coop on Teun Koopmeiners and put their attention elsewhere? Exactly seven years ago to the day, Locatelli scored a long-range shot to give his current team a win. The first time it was for Milan against Juventus, but this time the script was flipped. On Episode 179 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: Takeaways from Juventus' win over AC Milan — including how this was one of the most Moise Kean games that ever Moise Kean'd over the last few years, how it's now pretty official that Juventus and Max Allegri have gone back to their old ways of playing with a low block and being less proactive than they were to begin the 2023-24, and how we need to slow our collective role about Juve being Scudetto contenders. So, how about that win over Milan at San Siro? Max Allegri is still doing Max Allegri things — which means the more progressive and “modern” tactics that Juve used the first few games of the 2023-24 season are gone. A closing question: How about Dean Huijsen?! Twitter questions — including how much of Juventus' win over Milan had to do with luck and how much did it have to do with them being a half-decent team, why the heck was Moise Kean subbed out when he was, and is January a good time to go back in for Domenico Berardi knowing Juve's continued lack of creativity. The self-inflicted wounds were taken to an extreme Saturday, with game-changing mistakes being stacked up on top of one another in Juventus' first loss of the 2023-24 season. On Episode 173 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: Takeaways from the week that was — including how Juventus' loss to Sassuolo was a comedy of errors and how it was actually kinda interesting, how this was a little like the Bologna game in which Juve went out and tried to do what they have been doing even amidst the struggle, and how we are waiting to see what Max Allegri's next move is. So, yeah. About Juventus' 4-2 loss to Sassuolo. Those mistakes by Wojciech Szczesny ... what happened there? So, where does Juventus go from here knowing big games are fast approaching? Social media questions — including if it's truly time for Juventus to start looking for a long-term replacement for Wojciech Szczesny, how much criticism/credit does Max Allegri deserve so far this season, is there any realistic hope that Juve can find a backup to Manuel Locatelli during the winter transfer window, if Juve can survive with three at the back, and if it's fair to blame Federico Gatti for as much most have considering he's still relatively young. Juventus returned to the field with a relatively bland win over Hellas Verona, but that doesn't mean that there were a few players who continued their strong play as bigger and more important games approach. On this week's episode of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: Takeaways from the week that was — including Dusan Vlahovic and his tendency to fall into complaining to the refs very easily, and how Mattia De Sciglio is still very much there and getting playing time and not exactly anything of note to the table. Because Juventus' win over Hellas Verona was quite forgettable in terms of the overall performance, we decided to something a little different this week. That involves spotlighting a few players who we feel like are playing quite well right now. First up, it's Manuel Locatelli! Next up, it's Federico Gatti! With big wins in Serie A and in the Europa League, Juventus heads into the first international break of the calendar year feeling pretty good about things as the club awaits the points penalty appeal verdict to come down. On this week's episode of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: What a good week that was! Takeaways from said week — including Juventus will be qualifying for Europe come the end of the season, Manuel Locatelli has found his footing at the base of the Juve midfield as a regista and is in a nice run of form, and “Federico Gatti, man.” Thoughts on Juventus' Derby d'Italia win over Inter at the San Siro. The way Juventus played things and Max Allegri's tactics were pretty well executed against Inter, with the team being progressive with their pressing rather than being reactive like we've seen so many times before. Even though the final score was 1-0, this was a pretty good game between Juventus and Inter. We debate who the man of the match was against Inter, with a special shoutout for Nicolo Fagioli, who is playing like a sure-thing starter these days. Thoughts on Juventus' Europa League Round of 16 second leg win over Freiburg and the quarterfinal draw, with Sporting the next one up on the schedule for Max Allegri's squad in Europe. Twitter questions — just how massive Max Allegri has been, if Nicolo Fagioli 100% a baller or 100% a baller and a lock to be a starter going forward this season, and what has Federico Gatti done to try and ensure himself more playing time going forward the rest of the season. Just when it looked like Juventus actually had the chance to string some wins together, Max Allegri's squad goes out and has an absolute stinker against Milan over the weekend, showing us that even a couple of wins won't be the thing that gets things turned around. On this week's episode of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: Takeaways from the week that was — including Juventus isn't very good, Juventus won't be coming anywhere close to competing for the Serie A title and even with all the injuries Milan had they were still able to make Max Allegri look rather bad. So, about that Juventus performance against AC Milan over the weekend. Sorry to Juventus' win over Maccabi Haifa, but we're not going to talk much about you this week. This is about Juve failing in a big game again rather than beating the minnows of the Champions League group. Juventus' first nine games of the season in the 2022-23 campaign are officially worse than in the 2021-22 campaign, one where we thought it couldn't necessarily get any worse. Things just keep repeating themselves this season and there's no end in sight. If there are any hopes left that Juventus will get to the Champions League knockout rounds now that they've got their first European win of the season on the board. Twitter questions — including concerns of how Max Allegri has handled Manuel Locatelli this season, who needs to take the bulk of the blame for all of Juventus' failures this season, should we (n a twisted way) pull for Juve to keep playing poorly so the management parts ways with Max Allegri sooner, and digging deep to find an actual positive form this season. The second straight Monday night of Juventus football looked far from the first one, with Max Allegri's squad giving us plenty of flashbacks to last season in a scoreless draw against Sampdoria. On this week's episode of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: Takeaways from the week that was — including Manuel Locatelli's future as a regista, how Fabio Miretti and Nicolo Rovella were two of the few positives against Sampdoria, and how (like the classic meme of the dog sitting in his house surrounded by fire) everything is fine. A deep dive into what went wrong for Juventus against Sampdoria. Seriously, folks: Dusan Vlahovic had nine — NINE!) — touches against Samp. Unfortunately, that meant talking about a lot of the same things that happened last season because Juventus' draw against Sampdoria was a lot like so many games last season. Manuel Locatelli is not a regista yet Max Allegri still uses him as a regista. How just totally unsettled things are in the midfield at the moment. Twitter questions — including the best defense for further use of a McKennie-Locatelli-Rabiot midfield, what has Max Allegri done to actually help Juventus get better, thoughts on Pavel Nedved's pre-game comments about training and the transfer market, how long until Miretti and Rovella get looks from the start, what needs to happen between now and Juve's game against Roma for things to get better. The Juventus world is currently filled with transfer rumors galore, and because of that we decided to take a break from talking about said rumors to take some questions from the some of our loyal listeners and Twitter followers. On this week's episode of The Old Lady Speaks, we discuss: An offseason Twitter mailbag with questions from you the listeners! But before that, we actually talk about some on-field stuff — Federico Gatti's debut with the Italian national team, which just so happens to have come a few months before he is likely to make his official Juventus debut. And now, the Twitter questions! Those topics include: If we think Max Allegri will make it to the end of his contract, one that expires in three years. Just how much blame would you put Juventus' struggles this past season on Max Allegri, the players themselves and the injuries that were a constant throughout much of the year. Whether we can see the day in which Andrea Pirlo ever comes back to manage Juventus again. (Pirlo has taken a managerial job in Turkey recently.) If Juve's top two midfielders will be Manuel Locatelli and Paul Pogba, who should be third between Adrien Rabiot and Denis Zakaria (and Weston McKennie)? To the complete contrary, should Juventus go after Sergej Milinkovic-Savic when Paul Pogba chases the money and surprises the Juve front office when he signs with Paris Saint-Germain? Should there be worries about Federico Chiesa's playing style potential putting him at risk for another major knee injury in the future. A twist on things: Where do we think Juventus would finish if last season's squad picked up and left Serie A behind to join the Premier League? Closing arguments: What are the expectations for next season? You can follow us — or send us questions — on Twitter @JuventusNation or on Facebook.

Juventus' roster is beat up like it hasn't been in years and the players that are available to have clearly be exhausted after weeks with little rest. All the while, Juve's on their longest unbeaten run since Max Allegri's first tenure as manager. (Sorry, Fiorentina fans.) More chat about the week that was, with a focus on how Juventus is just trying to survive the current injury situation.

As much as the first game of 2022 was frustrating, the second was absolutely thrilling, with Juventus coming back from 3-1 down to record a wild 4-3 win over Jose Mourinho and Roma. On this week's episode of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: Takeaways from the week — which, sorry to Thursday's 1-1 draw against Napoli, are focused on the insanity that was Sunday night's win over Roma. More thoughts on the win over Roma. In an absolutely wild game where so many players contributed to Juventus comeback, a Twitter question asks: Who is the Man of the Match? The knee injury to Federico Chiesa. (Please note that we recorded this episode on Sunday night, with the Chiesa diagnosis not officially known just yet, only reports of what it could be the most advanced information that we knew of at the time.) Where Max Allegri might go tactically because of the injury to Chiesa, something that takes away one of his best offensive weapons just as he's coming back into the fold. Episode 14! Ole in! The world is on fire, but never fear--the sirens are ringing and we're riding in, in our special suits. Today, on a spicy edition of The TTSP, Will drives a discussion on a Manchester United team that is hopelessly trying to break free of an eternity of water treading. Or are they? It's jam packed with surprises and our most moronic, albeit still somewhat substantive show yet. Woo!We start with a new segment, whose name we'll leave as a present for those who tune in, where we discuss all sorts of ranging topics. From Koeman's dismissal and Gladbach's 5-0 victory over Bayern, to David Alaba and Manuel Locatelli, it's a news reporting bonanza up in here. Following the bit, the fellas reveal their second momentous occasion of the evening--and boy is it momentous. As Will proceeds to take the reigns, he begins the chat by commending Liverpool. It's short and sweet, and without much need for elaboration, as he soon sidesteps quickly to the elephant in the room. We must analyze United's baffling performances, on the field. There's a reminder of the match's main events, including Ronaldo's awesome gut-punt (very nice Cris!), and some general commentary regarding the symbolism of each key event. This segues into some details revolving United's structural problems, an ineptitude when it comes to the fundamentals, an utterly illogical recruitment strategy, and more. Martin hammers home the notion that United are amidst an identity crisis, full of tactical and directional uncertainty. They rip blankets, don't curve their pressing runs, and leave only 2 miserable soldiers in their largest, most vulnerable spaces. In the second half (or third third, I suppose), Will leads as the lads take on the bigger questions. Why is Ole still here? What do the Glazers want? Is there anything shared between the desires of the fans and the owners? What are Ole's tactics? Why did he get here in the first place? Is he an impostor or actually completely ideal? There's some talk on his good qualities, though it only lasts momentarily, before Martin exposes a curated list of total incongruencies within the United squad. Sancho works when he has overlapping wingbacks. Wan Bissaka works when you don't want them. Time and time again, this team reminds us of what it means to be a walking contradiction. Do they want to possess? Do they want to counter? Do they want to press? Do they want to hunker down? Do they want a team for the future? Do they want a team for now?As the soul searching comes to a temporary pause, Will closes with the argument that perhaps this is exactly what United wants. And while it sounds like almost an insult .. here us out, because maybe it is.PART TWO coming soon.Join us to hear our thoughts on all these items, and more--including a suspiciously robbed PSG player, Burtis Clones getting his ass kicked for no reason, a Liverpool fan that just can't stop watching United, a Pogbaian tragedy, some expected van Gaal and Mourinho juxtapositions, a montage of Touchline Theory best obscure references, Martin's abysmal Fabian Delph impression, Will's formidable Dust-Up prospects, and (speaking of) our brand new, esteemed sponsor: Hooligang!Find us on Twitter @touchlinetheory.

It was a week of the big teams winning away from home as a late Manuel Locatelli strike stole the derby della Mole, a.k.a. the Turin derby, for Juventus away at Torino, before the man of the moment later proposed to his girlfriend that night to cap off his winning goal exploits. In a nice touch, we learn a bit more about our hosts as Mina and Nicky begin the episode with something different, by telling personal stories of their football fandom. Also up for discussion is Milan's victory in Bergamo over Atalanta, and how good can this Milan team become? And has Napoli done enough yet to convince Mina and Nicky that they are the real deal after a 7th consecutive victory to begin the Serie A season, this time away at Fiorentina in a match that was marred by what Nicky describes as a crushing racial abuse incident directed at Napoli players. Then Mina is "loca" for Locatelli and Juve stringing together some excellent 1-0 wins, her favourite scoreline, over Chelsea in mid-week Champions League action and then in the derby, before Inter stages a comeback at Sassuolo with Edin Dzeko on fire.Lazio is incredibly smashed at Bologna, while Roma has a solid home win after Lorenzo Pellegrini penned a new contract extension.Nicky has praise for Sampdoria's Antonio Candreva staging his one-man goal of the season competition after yet another worldie in yet another 3-3 draw with Udinese, and we end on Roberto Mancini's Azzurri squad ins and outs as they prepare to face Spain in the semi-final of the UEFA Nations League in San Siro.Look out for next week's episode of Serie A Chronicles where we'll go in depth on Italy's matches to potentially see them lift a second European trophy in the space of a few months.Don't forget our ChroniclesQ&A mailbag show on Friday.Tweet us your questions to @serieAchronpod with the hashtag #ChroniclesQandA00:00 Mina's and Nicky's football fandom08:10 Shoutout to our tifosi10:35 Atalanta v Milan (2-3)25:00 Fiorentina v Napoli (1-2)40:10 Torino v Juventus (0-1)52:05 Sassuolo v Inter (1-2)57:50 Bologna v Lazio (3-0)59:25 Roma v Empoli (2-0)60:45 Sampdoria v Udinese (3-3)61:50 UEFA Nations League semi-final: Italy squadSubscribe and listen in each Tuesday as we put our own unique spin on all things calcio.Find Serie A Chronicles on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and at our website serieachronicles.com.Subscribe to Serie A Chronicles on the Acast app, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts, and give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts. You can also become a Chronicles Tifoso by supporting the podcast to help keep us running, at serieachronicles.com/supporter.Find all the links here.Serie A Chronicles is a Media Chronicles production.Digital content and social media by Calido Media.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/serie-a-chronicles.

The start of the 2021-22 season is almost upon, and that means a deep dive into what's good and bad about this edition of Juventus and the man who's back to coach them. We broke this episode of The Old Lady Speaks into a couple of different parts. They are: Expectations/thoughts on the upcoming season. Just how much of an impact will having Max Allegri back as manager make this season. Who we are looking at to be a potential standout player this season. An under-the-radar or wild card pick for an important contributor this season. And, as teased last week, we wrapped things up with some Twitter questions. (PLEASE NOTE: This podcast episode was recorded Monday night, which proved to be a few hours before Juventus and Sassuolo finally agreed to a deal for Manuel Locatelli.) Juventus took a big step up in competition level in its third friendly of the preseason. It wasn't all that great and there was plenty of freaking out, but was it really necessary? On this week's episode of The Old Lady Speaks: Juventus lost 3-0 to Barcelona and we clearly lose our heads about it. Well, not really. We try and find some positives — or not dwell on the negatives — from Juve's loss to Barcelona this past weekend. There are a lot of preseason trophies, but unfortunately Juventus won't win them all this summer because of said loss to Barcelona. Looking ahead to the final friendly of the preseason this weekend against Atalanta. The Manuel Locatelli deal could be done this weekend. The looooooooong Paulo Dybala contract extension talks and drama could also reach the light at the end of the tunnel this weekend. You can follow us on Twitter @JuventusNation or on Facebook.

Coca Cola, Heineken, me liguem!”
