Welcome back to another episode of The Haute Guide! In this episode, I'm diving deep into the 2025 Met Gala, unpacking this year's compelling theme: "Superfine", inspired by Monica Miller's exploration of Black dandyism. Join me as I candidly break down the hits, misses, and everything in between on fashion's biggest night. Here's what's inside: My honest thoughts on who beautifully embodied the "Superfine" theme—including Janelle Monae's stunning "time traveler" concept, Tracee Ellis Ross's bold historical homage, and André 3000's brilliant nod to traveling musicians. The styling missteps that left me scratching my head: Zendaya's unexpected duplicate look and Megan Thee Stallion's disappointing Michael Kors dress. A personal glimpse into my own "Superfine" look for a Met Gala viewing party at the Ritz Carlton, complete with a custom floor-length durag, embracing Black dandyism with my unique twist. Reflections on how the fashion industry at large missed a prime opportunity to truly honor and elevate Black culture, creativity, and historical significance. Plus, I'm sharing a heartfelt update about my recent health journey, why I've been away from fashion events, and how this Met Gala reignited my passion and purpose. Key Moments: Best Dressed Spotlight: Janelle Monae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tessa Thompson, Ava DuVernay, Kerry Washington. Critical Takeaways: Why Law Roach dropped the ball with Zendaya, and how Megan Thee Stallion and Coco Jones missed opportunities to solidify their personal brands. Personal Connection: The deeper meaning behind my own dandy-inspired look and how it marked my return to the fashion scene. This week on 5.6.7.EIGHT, Aleksandra speaks with Clara Superfine, a dancer with the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam. Clara, a North Carolina native, attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and danced with the American Ballet Theater Studio Company for one year prior to joining the Dutch National Ballet. Clara is also an avid illustrator and showcases her work through the Superfine Collective, which merges design and ballet. Over the past year, Clara has realized that dancers must exercise their voices as well as they do their bodies. Determined to use art to empower herself and others, Clara has set out a path to connect with dancers globally who are engaged in activism and who want to ensure more diversity and inclusion in the dance world. On the podcast, Clara discusses her belief that artists have the responsibility to drive change in their respective fields — something that she, herself, is seeking to do with ballet. Moving Quotes: "Artists must be at the forefront of change in their artform. I truly believe in the power that we have, as artists, to make an impact on our society. That we can be change makers." "Every day, I ask myself, 'What do I want from this day? Do you love it still?' Because the dance world can be very difficult. And the thing that makes me most proud is that I still love to move. And I seek to discover something new, rather than just being successful." "I feel inspired by my work. I love dance more than ever. And I look forward to going into the theater every day." "As a dancer growing up in the dance world, it's really important to stay open to all different theories and teaching forms and techniques... I try to keep myself in a constant learning state." "When auditioning, the number one thing is trusting yourself and being confident in what you know and what you're doing... Trust that you've done the work and these companies would be lucky to have you." "I just want to be true to my dance and why I love to dance. I just want to share myself through this beautiful artform." Bullet Points (w/ timestamps) - Highlighting key topics discussed: 2:38: Clara walks through her entire journey from humble North Carolina to the Dutch National Ballet. 6:08: Clara describes her experience adapting to a completely different nation and culture at the young age of 19. 9:54: Superfine shares some wisdom around adapting to a new dance company, particularly one in a foreign country or location. 11:59: Superfine gives some advice around making sure your auditions are memorable and effective. 13:09: Clara, an avid learner, shares her thoughts on the one key component to learning as a dancer. 15:22: Clara gives some advice for staying healthy while traveling on tour. 18:18: Superfine, who is also an illustrator, discusses her other passion, the Superfine Collective, where she merges design and illustration with ballet and dance. 21:23: Clara discusses her efforts towards furthering diversity and inclusion in the world and, specifically, within the world of dance. 25:37: Superfine shares what she is most proud of from her entire career thus far. 28:37: Clara looks towards the future and shares some general and specific goals for herself. My fellow host Billy C. manned the RFB studio for me while I reported by phone live from Miami Art Week, at Superfine Art Fair specifically with the smooth James Miille co-founder. So much great art and the artists were there, generously allowing me to make fun of them as I am wont to do. https://superfine.world/miami-beach/
Alex Mitow and James Miille are rebels. The duo behind Miami's own art fair Superfine! Decided they had enough with the stuffy and presumptuous attitude of the art world and wanted to plug back in the vibes into the experience of collecting art. Superfine! The Fair disrupts all notions of typical art fairs with affordable art, great people, and highly curated selections, minus the well-heeled intimidating front. On this episode of Meet Them Mondays, you'll meet the founders, hear their story and learn about all things Art Basel Miami. @RoamFreeWrites @MeetThemMondays www.roamfreewrites.com

I’m very excited to share the eighteenth episode of the Woolful podcast. Today we get to meet an incredibly inspiring sheep farmer and shepherdess from Tasmania, Nan Bray of White Gum Wool. Sponsor: This episode is sponsored by Yarn, a charming online and local yarn shop based in Eureka, California. Yarn was created by Sunni Schrivner who has a dedication for natural fibers and supporting local yarns. Make sure to visit Yarn in person when on the coast in hum bolt county and online at yarn-fun.com. Fiber folk: Nan Bray first came on my fiber radar when a listener sent me an email sharing a bit about what Nan was up to and encouraging me to reach out and learn more. I’m so glad I did. Nan’s journey as a scientist to fiber farmer and shepherdess touches on a lot of interesting challenges and her approach to farming wool has evolved into something quite special, both personally and as a business. You can find Nan at Whitegumwool.com.au Man on the street: For this week’s “Man on the Street” I asked a handful of fiber enthusiasts to answer the following question, shared by Susan in the Woolful Ravelry group. “Desert island scenario: What knitting book or […]
