Building relationships is fundamental to turning around middle-market companies, according to SierraConstellation Partners (SCP) Founder and CEO Lawrence Perkins, as employees are “in the center of the bullseye [and] doing the work every day, taking the calls from the vendors, taking the calls from the analyst, the private equity sponsor...the direct lender.” In his feature interview with Bloomberg Intelligence analysts Noel Hebert and Phil Brendel (7:36), Perkins shares he's encountering more “distressed by accident” lenders these days, courtesy of the private credit boom, than the “distressed on purpose” ilk. He delves into the differences between Chapter 11, Article 9 sales, and Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors (“ABC”). Prior to that, Hebert and Brendel open up with thoughts on April's market whiplash. The podcast concludes with BI's Negisa Balluku joining them for a roundtable discussion on Hertz, J&J, Ardagh, Franchise Group, Yellow Corp and Telesat (67:28). Was Ardagh's carve-out of its metal packaging business in 2021 an early example of a European LME before LMEs went global? Call it what you will, the troubled packaging conglomerate is getting a taste of both the potential upside and the backlash caused by these controversial financial maneuvers. In this episode, 9fin's global head of restructuring, Max Frumes, sat down with European senior distressed credit analyst Emmet McNally to discuss some of the events that led us here. Events so far have culminated in the company cleansing creditors party to restructuring negotiations that failed to reach common ground.Unsecured creditors Arini and Canyon have sued the company for alleged value extraction and fraudulent conveyance dating back to the metal carve-out. Emmet and Max talk us through the headline terms of the proposals put forward by the company and the unsecured bondholder group, and discuss how bid-ask spreads between the two proposals could be narrowed to reach a mutually agreeable deal.Want to share feedback on this episode? “Even if we hear rumblings that NDAs are out there with third parties and private lenders are looking at assets,... we're still in a position where — why wouldn't they come back to us — because we have more to give,” said Patrick McGrath, partner at Anchorage Capital. “If I've invested in a structure and I have a group, I can give them more time. That's valuable. I can address interest rates. I can probably provide the money a little bit cheaper and I can give them certainty as opposed to them saying I'm going to finance the business away.” McGrath sat down with Bloomberg Intelligence analysts Phil Brendel and Negisa Balluku at the Wharton Restructuring & Distressed Investing Conference last month (8:00). He dove into the intricacies of liability management exercises, including the asymmetry of information, discerning whether “deals away” are credible, and the importance of institutional reputation. Prior to that, BI's Noel Hebert and Brendel discuss how March may shake up complacent high yield and syndicated loan markets. The podcast concludes with a BI roundtable discussion covering J&J, Franchise Group, Spirit Airlines, Yellow, Ardagh, WW International, and Serta Simmons (1:14:20).

Our guest on this week's episode is Steve Ardagh, the founder and CEO of Eagle Protect, a protective glove supplier.  Our supply chains contain products sourced and manufactured all over the world. But sometimes, the origins of products may not in line with our values. Products may be produced in sweatshops, or ignore child labor standards, or they may take advantage of minority groups or even enslaved people. How do we assure ethical sourcing of the products in our supply chains? Our guest has some thoughts on this topic.Nearshoring, or moving manufacturing closer to our markets, is gaining in popularity. And we have seen a lot of recent activity in Mexico  that is further evidence of this growing trend. How does nearshoring reduce risk and stabilize our supply chains?Transportation of goods continues to be affected by world events, such as attacks on shipping within the Red Sea, the ongoing drought in Panama, and two major wars. Retailers are starting to feel these effects, as delays and higher freight costs pose earnings risk for U.S. and European companies importing from Asia.CSCMP's Supply Chain Xchange  also offers a podcast series called Supply Chain in the Fast Lane.  It is co-produced with the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.  Go to your favorite podcast platform to subscribe and to listen to past and future episodes.Articles and resources mentioned in this episode:Eagle ProtectBlueGrace opens first Mexican logistics centerArrive Logistics opens Guadalajara office as nearshoring boom continuesReport: Retailers likely to take a hit from Suez and Panama disruptionsGet episode transcriptsVisit Supply Chain XchangeListen to CSCMP and Supply Chain Xchange's Supply Chain in the Fast Lane podcastSend feedback about this podcast to podcast@agilebme.comPodcast is sponsored by: ApteanOther linksAbout DC VELOCITYSubscribe to DC VELOCITYSign up for our FREE newslettersAdvertise with DC VELOCITYTop 10 Supply Chain Management Podcasts

Joining Alexa this week to chat about the Alexander Technique is Patrick Ardagh-Walter, a professional singer who has worked with the likes of the Royal Opera. He's a trained Alexander technique teacher himself and is an assistant at a training school for teachers of the Alexander Technique in Paris. Patrick is here to tell us where the technique originated from, how it can benefit singers, and he also shares with us an exercise that we can try out for ourselves and use in the studio with the singers we work with. KEY TAKEAWAYS The Alexander Technique is a method for improving posture and movement, addressing habits of tension that can interfere with optimal functioning. Developed by F. Matthias Alexander, it emphasises self-awareness and mindful reeducation of the body's alignment and coordination. Practitioners learn to release unnecessary muscular tension, promoting better posture, ease of movement, and overall well-being.  This benefits singers by promoting optimal posture, breath control, and vocal coordination. It helps singers release tension, allowing for a free and natural flow of breath, enhancing vocal resonance. By improving overall body awareness, singers can maintain better alignment and support, preventing strain and vocal fatigue.  The technique fosters a mindful approach to movement, enabling singers to refine their technique and optimise vocal performance, contributing to long-term vocal health and expressive singing. BEST MOMENTS ‘The technique isn't an activity where you do it and get on with life, it's a re-education'  ‘It's difficult to let go of something that feels familiar and do something unfamiliar instead'  ‘You can't ask someone's brain to do something if they've never experienced before' ‘Almost everybody I see tends to stand in a way which interferes with the breathing mechanism'  EPISODE RESOURCES  How You Stand, How You Move, How You Live by Missy Vineyard  Feldenkrais Method: https://feldenkrais.com/ Singing Teachers Talk Podcast: Ep.63 Developing a Singer's Self Awareness and Clarifying Intention with Robert Sussuma  Ep.65 The Top Benefits of Vocal Massage with Lydia Flock  Ep.74 Understanding Manual Therapy with Walt Fritz Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT): https://alexandertechnique.co.uk/teacher-training-courses American Society for the Alexander Technique: https://www.amsatonline.org/aws/AMSAT/pt/sp/home_page Australian Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (AUSTAT): https://www.austat.org.au/ The Use of the Self by F. Now living in France, he continues to perform alongside his teaching, and is assistant at a Training School for teachers of the Alexander Technique in Paris. Her work is rooted in earth honoring, devotional women's spirituality and goddess centered tantric yoga. One of the things I most love about her is her gift for storytelling and ability to bring ancient myths alive for our modern world. We explore: How the dismantling and transformation of menopause demands that we break age-old contracts based on self-sacrifice and learn to set new boundaries, as well as how these shifts ripples forwards and backwards in time. How cultivating compassion with ourselves is not optional through the menopause process. It is needed to embrace even the parts of us that are totally out of alignment with who we want to be. Better Than Sex - Better Than Sex shows us, with many real life stories and case studies, that when we bring these two things together--life coaching and awakening--we discover a whole that is much greater than the sum of its parts, and which has the possibility to bring each of these areas to their greatest potential. Ardagh boldly claims that you don't need to be a yogi, or a guru, or a representative of an ancient tradition in order to make huge contributions to another person--to effect the unfolding of that person's deepest gifts. Instead, he says, it simply requires "an open heart, an open mind, and the willingness to ask powerful questions." Ardagh's own path to Awakening Coaching began in his native England when he was 14 years old-spurred by a family mired in its own psychological suffering. He learned meditation at 14, and later went on to teach meditation and yoga before the age of 20. He embarked on a sojourn to India after graduation from Cambridge. Full Text of ReadingsMonday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 323All podcast readings are produced by the USCCB and are from the Catholic Lectionary, based on the New American Bible and approved for use in the United States _______________________________________The Saint of the day is St. Brigid of IrelandOn Feb. 1 Catholics in Ireland and elsewhere will honor Saint Brigid of Kildare, a monastic foundress who is together with Saint Patrick and Saint Columcille one of the countrys three patron saints.St. Brigid directly influenced several other future saints of Ireland, and her many religious communities helped to secure the country's conversion from paganism to the Catholic faith. She is traditionally associated with the Cross of St. Brigid, a form of the cross made from reeds or straw that is placed in homes for blessing and protection. Some Eastern Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Christians also celebrate her feast.St. Brigid has been profiled many times by both ancient and modern writers, but it is notoriously hard to establish the historical details of her life, and the various accounts make many conflicting claims. According to one of the more credible biographies of Brigid Hugh de Blacam's essay in The Saints of Ireland, on which the following account is based most historians place her birth around the year 450, near the end of Saint Patrick's evangelistic mission.Brigid was born out of wedlock, the daughter of a pagan cheiftain named Dubthach and a Christian slave woman named Broicsech. The cheiftain sold the child's pregnant mother to a new master, but contracted for Brigid to be returned to him eventually. According to de Blacam, the child was probably baptized as an infant and raised as a Catholic by her mother. Thus, she was well-formed in the faith before leaving Broicsech's slave-quarters, at around age 10, to live with Dubthach and his wife.Within the new circumstances of the cheiftain's household, Brigid's faith found expression in feats of charity. From the abundance of her father's food and possessions, she gave generously to the poor. Dubthach became enraged, threatening to sell Brigid who was not recognized as a full family member, but worked as a household servant to the King of Leinster. But the Christian king understood Brigid's acts of charity and convinced Dubthach to grant his daughter her freedom.Released from servitude, Brigid was expected to marry. But she had other plans, which involved serving God in consecrated life. She even disfigured her own face, marring her beauty in order to dissuade suitors. Understanding he could not change her mind, Dubthach granted Brigid permission to pursue her plan, and material means by which to do so. Thus did a pagan nobleman, through this gift to his illegitimate daughter, play an unintentional but immense part in God's plan for Ireland. While consecrated religious life was part of the Irish Church before Brigid's time, it had not yet developed the systematic character seen in other parts of the Christian world by the fifth century. Among women, vows of celibacy were often lived out in an impromptu manner, in the circumstances of everyday life or with the aid of particular benefactors. Brigid, with an initial group of seven companions, is credited with organizing communal consecrated religious life for women in Ireland.Bishop Mel of Ardagh St. Patrick's nephew, and later St. Mel accepted Brigid's profession as a nun. According to tradition, the disfigurement she had inflicted on her face disappeared that day, and her beauty returned. St. Mel went on to serve as a mentor to the group during their time at Ardagh.Around the time of his death in 488, Brigid's community got an offer to resettle. Their destination is known today as Kildare (Church of the Oak), after the main monastery she founded there.Brigid's life as a nun was rooted in prayer, but it also involved substantial manual labor: cloth-making, dairy farming, and raising sheep. In Ireland, as in many other regions of the Christian world, this communal combination of work and prayer attracted vast numbers of people during the sixth century. Kildare, however, was unique as the only known Irish double monastery: it included a separately-housed men's community, led by the bishop Saint Conleth. From this main monastery, Brigid's movement branched out to encompass a large portion of Ireland. It is not clear just how large, but it is evident that Brigid traveled widely throughout the island, founding new houses and building up a uniquely Irish form of monasticism. When she was not traveling, many pilgrims including prominent clergy, and some future saints made their way to Kildare, seeking the advice of the abbess.Under Brigid's leadership, Kildare played a major role in the successful Christianization of Ireland. The abbess' influence was felt in the subsequent era of the Irish Church, a time when the country became known for its many monasteries and their intellectual achievements.St. Brigid of Kildare died around 525. She is said to have received the last sacraments from a priest, Saint Ninnidh, whose vocation she had encouraged. Veneration of Brigid grew in the centuries after her death, and spread outside of Ireland through the work of the country's monastic missionaries. On this weeks interview excerpted from the programme John chats with Marion Carroll who shares her thoughts and experience with us about her cure at Knock in 1989 which was recognized as a miracle by the church in 2019.On Sunday, September 1st 2019, Bishop Francis Duffy led the annual Ardagh and Clonmacnois Diocesan pilgrimage to Knock Shrine. This was a very special occasion as it marked the 30th anniversary of the healing of Marion Carroll at Knock Shrine while on the same pilgrimage from her home in Athlone. During his homily, Bishop Duffy recalled that September day in 1989 –“ I recognise that Marion was healed from her long-standing illness while on pilgrimage in this sacred place. Marion’s healing is good news for her, for her husband Jimmy, for her family and friends. Marion’s healing is life changing. Many have attested to the dramatic change that came about in Marion here and on her return to Athlone in 1989. Without doubt there was a healing, a cure of the illness that beset Marion for several years. Marion was liberated from sickness and its impact on her and on her family. It is also a healing for which there is no medical explanation at present, it is definite and yet defies medical explanation.”On Monday (2 September 2019) Archbishop Michael Neary released comments that he made on the previous day stating that “Thirty years ago on the occasion of this pilgrimage, Marion was healed here at Our Lady’s Shrine. Today the Church formally acknowledges that this healing does not admit of any medical explanation and joins in prayer, praise and thanksgiving to God.”He added: “In these situations the Church must always be very cautious. This is illustrated by the fact that thirty years have elapsed since this took place, during which time the examination by the Medical Bureau testifies that there is no medical explanation for this healing.”

In episode five, I interview my very favorite human being of all the human beings there are alive on the planet. Generally, when I'm preparing to record a podcast there are some logistic questions. Am I going to travel to where they live? [I've done that… I flew to New York recently to interview Andrew Horn and Mickey Agarwal, I drove to Southen California for Daniel Schmachtenberger]. Can they come to me? Or are we going to record using zoom? This was the one interview when none of those questions were necessary. I was interviewing the extraordinary wonderful human being who sleeps on the other side of my bed. Have you ever seen those shorter videos on social media where very handicapped people learn to do ordinary things? You can watch a video for five minutes of someone brushing their teeth, making it downstairs, making breakfast and even going out to buy groceries. All of this is completely gripping and fascinating when the subject of the video has no arms and legs. Then it is heroic! Extraordinary! A triumph of human nature.   I never thought that I would be able to love: fully and deeply and without restraint in this lifetime. There was too much conditioning from my family weighing me down. But seventeen years ago, I met someone who had the same aspiration: to learn to love, despite the odds. We agreed to enter into an experiment together: to practice love.  Here is our report. 11:18 -- An experiment in love / Committing to something deeper  20:22 -- Exposed! / Radical honesty 27:38 -- Starting over every day / A fresh trembling attempt at allowing love to take over 35:00 -- Universal love, polyamory, or monogamy? / Commitment as a portal into freedom 46:36 -- Committing to love itself  53:40 -- Greatest challenge of relationship  / the demons we face in achieving deeper love

Chameli Ardagh is a leading pioneer in contemporary feminine spirituality, and has inspired thousands of women around the world with her breakthrough methods for living and embodying  feminine awakening. This Episodes Wisdom Quote: “A woman's body is a vessel for evolution. Not only the womb is a microcosmic experience of the greater cosmic creativity but a woman's body is aligned to the greater cycles of nature. When we come closer to our bodies, we come closer to the universal dance? the wisdom and rhythms that we have as a culture forgotten, and we live in the consequence of this separation from these rhythms, destroying ourselves and our world. So women are the teachers. We as a collective are waiting for the women to come forth and bring back this intimate knowing we have in our bodies about the cycles and rhythms and how the universe moves. Women through their bodies can guide us back to a sustainable way of living.”   To find out more about Chameli's work and teachings, visit https://awakeningwomen.com/   More about host Stefana Serafina's embodiment work with women: http://www.intuitivedance.org/

Arjuna Ardagh is an awakening coach, writer and public speaker, who also trains others to become facilitators of awakening.  He is the author of seven books, including the 2005 #1 National Bestseller The Translucent Revolution, which was featured in “O” magazine. His new book Better than Sex is the complete introduction to Awakening Coaching.  His novel The Last Laugh will be republished by Hay House in spring 2013. He is also the creator of several on-line courses, including Living Awakening, and The Deeper Love. Ardagh has been a keynote speaker at conferences all over the world, including: the International Conference on Business and Consciousness, the “No Mind” Festival,” the Whole Life Expo (in 5 cities), the Integral Spiritual Experience Conference, and the Omega Institute annual conference. He has appeared on TV, on the radio and in print media in seventeen countries.  He is a member of the Transformational Leadership Council. Arjuna was educated in England, at Kings School, Canterbury, and later at Cambridge University, where he earned a master's degree in literature.   Since the age of 14 he has had a passionate interest in spiritual awakening, and he began to practice mediation and yoga at that time. In his late teens he trained as a meditation teacher. After graduating from Cambridge, Ardagh devoted himself completely to the call he felt inside, and studied and lived with a number of great spiritual teachers, both in Asia and the United States. In 1991 Arjuna met his teacher, H.W.L.Poonja, a retired army officer in Lucknow India, with whom he passed through a radical shift in consciousness. Arjuna started to train facilitators in 1995, in order to create an environment where awakening can happen outside of the usual patriarchal and hierarchical context: as friends supporting friends. The same work has now evolved in the Awakening Coaching Training, where most of the courses are offered on line, thus bypassing the need for students to travel and take time away from their other responsibilities. Arjuna has trained more than 1100  facilitators of awakening since 1995. Arjuna Ardagh is the creator of several on-line courses. Through high definition video interviews with 40 remarkable people, Living Awakening shows us how states of inner awakening can become the stable foundation of enlivening and giving the Unique Gift each person was born to share.  Arjuna and his wife, Chameli Ardagh, have created The Deeper Love, which teaches singles and couples how to integrate awakening consciousness into intimate relationship. Arjuna and Chameli live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California, with their two teenage sons.
