“RICHARD CARLSON: CLASSIC CINEMA STAR OF THE MONTH” (081) - 3/31/2025 Tall, dark-haired, and handsome, RICHARD CARLSON was always a welcomed addition to any cast. From the beginning, when he was playing preppy college students opposite LANA TURNER, to his reign in the 1950s as the King of Sci-Fi thrillers, Carlson brought believability and authority to each role but also a sense of introspective thoughtfulness. You looked into his deep blue eyes and chiseled face and believed him. Whatever he was selling, we were buying. And while he never became an A-list leading man, he enjoyed a long and steady career and enhanced many a mediocre film with his special appeal. This week, we celebrate RICHARD CARLSON as our Star of the Month. One of the most popular episodes of our pod was #12 from December of last year, "DECK THEM HALLS: CELEBRATING THE HOLIDAYS IN CLASSIC FILM." Because of the great feedback we got on that show (and because Steve and Nan are WAY behind on their holiday shopping), we're replaying that episode to celebrate the best time of year for holiday movies. We hope you enjoy it, and we'll be back next week with a brand new episode! Happy Holidays from all of us at "From Beneath The Hollywood Sign!" "DECK THEM HALLS: CELEBRATING THE HOLIDAYS IN CLASSIC FILM" (067/012) While chestnuts roasting on that open fire and sleigh bells ringing are nice, nothing gets you in the mood for the holidays like a good ole seasonal movie. Well, get ready to unwrap an early present from Steve and Nan as they share their favorite lesser-known holiday films. And along the way, they discuss everything from Clarence the Angel, French nuns, boxing nuns, ROBERT MITCHUM's drug bust, and millionaires tossing money out of their Park Avenue apartment window. Don't miss this holiday spectacular! A hit song many years ago plaintively asked the question on millions of minds: “Will you still love me tomorrow?” The fragility and impermanence of human love has chorused through the centuries—in every culture, in every region. Something in the human heart cannot keep a covenant. Despite romantic wedding decorations and elaborate commitment rituals, we fail to keep our promises to always act with love and care toward even that one person we are most attracted to. Which is why the original Lover of our souls took pains to assure us that His love and grace don't depend on promises as weak as ours. “‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. ‘And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine'” (Isa 55:8). “For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). The gift of Jesus, sent in grace to take our place, is the enduring sign of God's permanent affection—even for those who reject His love. “God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Rom 5:8). The answer to our chronic insecurity about love is the song that all who put their faith in Jesus will one day sing: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” (Rev 5:12). It's a love that never stops. And it's a song that never ends. So stay in grace. -Bill Knott

Science fiction traces its roots back to ancient mythology. Its been popular in literature, film, and of course radio. At first, radio science fiction shows were created for kids. In the 1950's, the radio networks attempted to attract new listeners by creating half hour science fiction dramas for grown ups, to battle the new invention of television which was causing their ratings to seriously decline. Among the first of these was the Mutual Broadcasting System program 2000-plus. This was the first adult science fiction series on radio. 2000 Plus was quickly followed by other programs. You're going to hear The Other Man, an episode of 2000 Plus from 1950. Also, Universe from Dimension X by NBC in 1950 which was the second adult science fiction show on radio. You'll also hear Requiem, from Beyond Tomorrow by CBS in 1950, and Bad Medicine from NBC's X-Minus One in 1956. For more podcasts visit KRobCollection.com

Amrita Sahasrabudhe is the Vice President of Marketing at FastMed Urgent Care and former Sr. Manager of Marketing Strategy & National Promotions at PetSmart. She joins the show to talk about why it’s important for marketers to push the boundaries and move companies to the next step. Amrita also discusses the difference between adapting to what is new in technology without getting distracted by the shiny things, how marketers can prove the metrics of success, and why a bigger budget doesn’t always mean better results. Takeaways: [3:27] Amrita started her marketing career in B2B in the manufacturing world before social media was a major part of the industry. She saw an opportunity to digitize their communication such as the newsletters and started with the automation of communication to clients. [7:30] Marketers are faced with staying on the rapid evolution of technology and consumer consumption, yet not getting distracted by shiny things. Social media can be one thing to add to your toolbox of tricks over time, but it’s important to move on to different channels should the need arise. [11:04] The marketing team must not only prove the metrics of success but also show how the tactics work on converting audiences and building upon the company strategy. They also must constantly educate senior leadership on what marketing is and why it’s important, and to be clear on the vision of the company as a whole. [17:15] Being creative with less is a requirement in digital because it’s not tangible like traditional media. [20:33] Great leaders are brutally truthful and not afraid to speak up. They are prepared to pivot when the rules of the game change and be clear about what they want. [33:48] Building a long-term strategy is important to building a foundation so that if there is a shift in leadership, the team still knows what to do and why. [37:39] When Amrita is hiring and looking to add to her marketing team, she looks for people thinking about the long-term future and how they would make decisions that would impact a broader set of people. She also encourages them to think at a higher level, so they can start to think about doing her job when she moves up and on. [46:23] Amrita encourages those looking to get into senior leadership to not only identify the problem but to begin to also look at possible solutions. Quotes: ● “Marketing is fun, no matter which way you cut it.” ● “Everyone thinks they know marketing, and that it’s the easiest thing on earth. The reality is, it’s an ever-shifting landscape.” ● “You have to be willing to lose a little to gain a lot in the future.” ● “Some of the top companies in the world allow consumers to build the brand.” ● “Take a risk and keep testing. What works today may not work tomorrow and what worked yesterday may work again.” Mentioned in This Episode: Long Way Round Amrita Sahasrabudhe FastMed Urgent Care
