Ep 229 | This week on Discover Ag, Natalie and Tara dig into the headlines shaping agriculture, food safety, and pop culture — with their usual dose of fact-checking and fun. First up: The Apeel controversy explodes across social media with fearmongering videos, Bill Gates conspiracy theories, and actual lawsuits. The hosts break down the misinformation campaigns targeting the food coating company, from Michelle Pfeiffer's apology to why transparency in food labeling has become such a flashpoint. Then, the most unexpected crossover of 2025: Jelly Roll meets the Pope! The country star performed at the first Vatican City concert in 2,000 years, and the hosts can't get over this redemption story that has everyone talking about grace, second chances, and the power of music. Next, Farm Aid hits its 40th anniversary milestone. Willie Nelson's nonprofit has raised $85 million for family farmers over four decades, and this year's concert almost didn't happen due to labor strikes. Plus, they're pioneering local food at major events with their "Homegrown Concessions" model. And finally, natural fibers are making a comeback in sportswear! Venus Williams wore wool to the US Open, signaling a shift away from synthetic fabrics. The hosts dive into sustainability, microplastics in oceans, and why your grandma's scratchy sweater perception of wool needs an update. BUT WAIT — there's more! Stick around for Lainey Wilson's viral Family Feud moment that has the internet losing it over Britney Spears songs, plus updates on the hosts' "Discover on the Road" series featuring sheep trails in Montana and cotton farming adventures. This week it's just the boys holding down the fort, and things get… messy. In Open Chat, Dangilo dishes on his event featuring some shockingly good celebrity impersonators (because nothing says gay excellence like Britney Spears). Meanwhile, Dr. Carlton has a run-in at the park—was he being cruised, or was he doing the cruising? You be the judge. But the real investigation of the week: The Case of the Mystery Gym Pooper. The guys put on their detective hats (and nose plugs) to get to the bottom of it. Spoiler: Dangilo may or may not get hit with some pretty instant poop karma of his own.The tackle a relationship question: when is an open relationship just a little too open? Then it's time for a steamy round of Hit It & Quit It featuring everything from gym hookups to kissing cousins and flushing your PrEP? Of course, they wrap it all up with their signature Love Languages of the Week—because nothing cleanses the palate like a little tenderness after all the toilet talk.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

The screenwriters Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn are cousins, and they grew up in the 1970s and '80s in a big Catholic extended family in St. Louis. The Gunns are an incredibly creative clan that has produced all sorts of actors and writers and directors, including Brian's brother James, who you might know as the director of the most recent “Superman” movie and the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise. Brian and Mark are both Jesuit educated twice over, alumni of St. Louis University High School and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. It was during college that they started performing sketch comedy together, and they both moved to Los Angeles in the '90s to pursue Hollywood dreams. Since then, Brian and Mark have worked together on films and TV shows, including the family adventure movie “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and a 2019 superhero horror film called “Brightburn” featuring Elizabeth Banks. Their first project that made it big was a movie and series called “2gether,” which debuted on MTV in 2000. It was a hilarious parody of the boy band era of Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC and it was influential on the development of AMDG host Mike Jordan Laskey's sense of humor. The actors playing the boy band became an actual boy band themselves, opening for Britney Spears and hitting the Billboard charts with two different albums. If you are an elder millennial, all we have to say is, “I know my calculus,” and you'll sing back: “You plus me equals us.” Mike asked Brian and Mark about their family and their Jesuit education, how they work together as a writing team, and what it's like to work in the film industry. Mark and Brian also shared some creative tips they've learned in more than a quarter century in the trade. Finally, Mike couldn't let them go without reminiscing about “2gether” and marveling at the fact that 25 years after the movie's debut, the most popular film in the world right now is another movie about a fictional boy band. Though this new one is composed of demons and they're being hunted by a KPop girl group... Anyway, we think you'll enjoy this sneak peek into the lives of Hollywood screenwriters. www.jesuits.org/ www.beajesuit.org/ twitter.com/jesuitnews facebook.com/Jesuits instagram.com/wearethejesuits youtube.com/societyofjesus www.jesuitmedialab.org/

Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that is begging for Britney Spears to release the non-binary edition of “I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman”. This week, co-hosts Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with non-binary actor Robyn Holdaway (@robynholdaway) who you may recognize as Layla from Netflix's Sex Education. Robyn is a prolific voice actor, as well as an educational creator on TikTok where they make videos with their wife about everything from exploring gender and sexuality to navigating physical and mental health challenges. We talk with Robyn about LGBTQ+ representation across media, the differences between realistic/accurate representation and idealistic representation, and what it means to actually become the representation they wish they'd seen when they were younger. In examining the intersection of sapphic and non-binary identities, Robyn discusses the (unfortunately unsurprising) amount of backlash they've received online for explaining the meanings of words like ‘sapphic' using gender-inclusive (and completely accurate) language. From there Robyn dives into explaining their non-binary identity and why their marriage doesn't feel particularly ‘sapphic' due to Robyn's “Gomez Addam's”-style masculinity, and we consider our own gender identities– concluding that Leigh's gender is “Tiny Dad Mom” and Ellie's is “Rainbow Unicorn Overalls”. The first 2 hours of the podcast was before the death of Charlie Kirk took place. This podcast is my interpretation and theories of the discourse nor does it advocate for violence. I freestyle the rants in the beginning about the billionaires creating extremes to make us go more fundamentalist and reactionary and how I had to fight off over the last 10 plus years not to be lured through the targeted harassment And how primitive my conspiratorial outlook was a decade ago-How it has been over 10 years since Trump has been highly focused in the discourse, how corporations have watered down the art forms with political streamers, how they gave Britney Spears limited vindication before advocating for more people controlling her, how it is hard to be comedic when everyday the news is more absurd , Howard Stern's lackluster announcement-Why the Sopranos sub reddit is my last escape, having to look at the overview myself because “smarter” people have let me down, predictive programming in movies, Dream about James Gandolfini-Discussing the death of Charlie Kirk and how the right wing is using this as an excuse to wage war on the marginalized while ignoring other tragic incidents and how limited narratives have brought us here and how things will get more dangerous. Discussing Young Thug leaks from prison and how it is fueling more regressive beef-The latest with Drake and Kendrick and added characters to the cast of this tv series, which music Ive been listening to lately. The promoted discourse over this Epstein and Trump stuff. RFK. getting grilled by other politicians. More on the discourse of which democrats got funded . Palestine/Israel discourse. Putin bombing Poland. Trump posting meme declaring war on Chicago-JD Vance justifying war crimes in Venezuela, using extreme stabbing of Ukrainian refugee. Wrestling discourse about AJ Lee's discourse, Kevin Nash vs Becky. Forced discourse over Nikki Bella vs Wade Barrett-Online fandom dunking on Ronda Rousey's obvious rage bait. Will Vince be back by Cena's last match? MJF Married etc and closing thoughts on wishing violence would stop but too many forces have incentive to keep this going

Welcome back to Once, Every Two Weeks, the podcast where long-time friends Mark and Thom subject themselves (and anyone still listening) to even more 90s nostalgia, deep cuts, and questionable life choices. This time, they dust off Placebo's “Without You I'm Nothing”—the album that taught awkward teens it's okay to be a little messy and a lot loud. Join us as we unpack Placebo's sound, their accidental run-ins with David Bowie, and why this record deserves more than one spin on the Discman. From Panda Express mishaps to bitter rants about American radio, we'll hit every high, low, and crunchy snare in-between. And, as always, we'll argue about which tracks still slap and which ones are just...well, very Placebo.Show Notes00:00:50 – Thom's Panda Express story; Mark meets Nada Surf (again, without Thom)00:05:42 – Placebo's name origin, awkward Europe-to-London backstories, and the “right place, right time” magic00:12:30 – Why Placebo's androgynous image confused and delighted absolutely everyone00:16:15 – The parade of Svens, Stephens, and Steves; producer Steve Osborne and that weird Real World studio00:21:40 – Did the band even like their own album? Mark recaps cryptic interviews and British press drama00:26:20 – Pitchfork bashing and why American critics “just didn't get it”00:29:10 – The Placebo sound: unpretentious, moody, always one snare away from a tantrum00:32:30 – “Pure Morning” (how Placebo made insomnia sound cool)00:36:00 – “Brick Shithouse” (and why production tricks can sometimes just be...really annoying)00:39:40 – “You Don't Care About Us” and the many faces of Mark's 1998 alt-rock playlist00:43:00 – “Ask for Answers” and the art of mopey Radiohead vibes00:45:30 – Title track “Without You I'm Nothing”, David Bowie's surprise phone call, and why the Bowie version divides the pod00:48:40 – “Allergic to Thoughts of Mother Earth”: a rock song that's secretly a hippie manifesto00:51:20 – “The Crawl”: why Placebo slow songs aren't just filler (they're...something else)00:53:00 – “Every You, Every Me”—the twisted joy of hearing their most infectious song in Cruel Intentions00:57:00 – A short sidebar on why American radio, Clear Channel, and Britney Spears ruined our collective Placebo education01:02:00 – Mark and Thom's top picks from “Without You I'm Nothing”01:05:00 – Wrapping up: proselytizing for Placebo and final thoughts on their “never quite mainstream” legacy Hosted on Acast. Howard Stern's hack radio prank, the MTV VMA's, Charlie Steen is now just a boring author, Britney Spears worst dance video, and artist John Hinckley Jr. The Detroit Lions loss has everybody bummed. The Buffalo Bills somehow defeated the Baltimore Ravens after being down 15 points in the 4th quarter. Another dildo hit an NFL field yesterday. The NFL punishes an unruly fan. Howard 100: Howard Stern opened with a wacky Andy Cohen bit to start his comeback. Drew and BranDon made the Stern montage! Stern totally loves Alex Cooper now. Howard is not a fan of podcasts or Ari Shaffir. The MTV Video Music Awards went down last night. Ozzy Osbourne was honored. GMA can't get enough of Charlie Sheen. He totally nailed Corey Haim. We miss the exciting Charlie Sheen, not the new boring author. Britney Spears is dancing in public bathrooms. Her house is covered in multiple dog turds. Unknown Number on Netflix remains must-watch. Brother Wease calls it quits at 78. Turks and Caicos has a major murder problem. Drew was once groomed in Jamaica. Drew is hit by more AI slop. The Phillies Karen is still big news on GMA. Corey Feldman joins Dancing with the Stars, Lil Tay raked in $15M on OnlyFans, Roger Waters v. Ozzy Osbourne, Unknown Number on Netflix, a Meghan Markle conspiracy, and Bert Kreischer remains awful. Detroit Tiger OF Kerry Carpenter hit a homerun for Drew today at the game. Dave Landau was on The Joe Rogan Experience. About time! We have new tech and it's still not enough. Con artist Anna Delvey lost weight and it's news. Lil Tay made $15M on OnlyFans in just 2 weeks despite being NOT HOT. Britney Spears is out again shaking her flat butt. Gross. SNL has added to their cast. Roger Waters hates Ozzy Osbourne. Jack Osbourne responds to Roger Waters. Trudi checked out Billy Idol and the misshaped Steve Stevens. Bert Kreischer is terrible and Podcast Cringe destroys him as 2 Bears 1 Cave. Taylor Swift has an open invite for the 2026 NFL Halftime Show. NBC is sorry for misgendering a mass shooter. Donald Trump had a death hoax. Benny Johnson claims the NYT printed a ‘hit piece' on him. Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un celebrated the end of WWII. They believe they'll live forever. Corey Feldman AND Hilarious Baldwin will be on Dancing with the Stars. Expect to see multiple Michael Jackson dances. Unknown Number: The High School Catfish is available on Netflix. Drew calls for Internet Police. The internet and we are angry at Sydney Sweeney for dating Scooter Braun. Luigi Mangione is a model now for cheap Chinese clothes. Meghan and Harry's Travalyst head steps down. Hollywood is out to ruin Markle according to Me-Me-Meghan. Don't disrespect Cardi B. She's been cleared in a $24M lawsuit. She remains a hot head. RUNDOWN Nugget ice machines, clinking noises, and bizarre celebrity rumors (yes, even LeAnn Rimes' teeth). The warm-up turns nostalgic as the show celebrates musical birthdays for Billy Ray Cyrus, Gene Simmons, and Elvis Costello. And what about the chaos of late August sports: college football's return, the NFL looming, and the Mariners somehow both collapsing and contending at the same time? Hotshot recounts the fantasy football fiasco that ended his playing days back in 2007, while Mitch embraces his role as a “passionate pessimist” when it comes to Seattle baseball. And through it all, one bright spot remains—Brian Woo quietly posting Cy Young–level consistency, even if the voters never notice. Mitch interviews Nancy King, who was just 16 when a family trip to Seattle in August 1964 turned into the story of a lifetime. From checking into the Beatles' hotel, to a chance encounter with a Liverpool journalist, to being ushered into a private room where she spent 30 unforgettable minutes with John, Paul, George, and Ringo — Nancy recounts how one magical evening reshaped her life and inspired decades of storytelling. CBS analyst and Rose Bowl–winning coach Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch to open another season of weekly college football chats, breaking down the new 12-team playoff format, the looming SEC and Big Ten power plays, and the frenzy around Arch Manning's Texas debut in Columbus. He weighs in on Washington's year-two outlook under Jedd Fisch, Heisman dark horses, and makes his first official “Rick's Pick” of 2025 — with Oregon and LSU circled for January glory. Mitch welcomes back Joe Doyle and Brady Farkas for episode 348 of this Mariners No-Table segment, where the trio dissects Seattle's uneven road trip, a roster struggling against lefties, and what Cal Raleigh's historic home run pace means for the franchise. With Padres, Guardians, and Rays looming, the group debates roster moves, Harry Ford's September call-up chances, and whether the Mariners are missing their moment to bury Houston.
