Should Christian families accept government subsidies if the help is already available—or should we be worried about the strings attached? Today I'm answering that, plus when theological differences are serious enough to leave a church, loving an adult child who disagrees with you, baptism, tithing while in debt, teens working Sundays, discerning when “God told me” is really God, and helping a homeschool graduate find direction. You've done everything right. Emergency fund, employer match, maxed-out retirement account, boring diversified index funds quietly compounding in the background. And now some part of you is wondering: is there a next level? Financial educator Brian Feroldi joins Paula Pant and Jesse Cramer for a genuinely useful gut-check on whether picking individual stocks is a smart next step, a fun hobby, or a trap dressed up as ambition, and how to tell the difference before you put real money on the line. What You'll Walk Away WithThe single question that determines whether you're actually ready to buy individual stocks: do you have real interest in the process, not just the potential payoffWhy working in an industry doesn't automatically make you qualified to invest in itThe real statistics behind stock picking: roughly two-thirds of individual stocks underperform the market averageWhy losing money on your first few stock picks might be the best possible outcome, and why winning right away can be dangerousA clear framework for position sizing, so a stock-picking hobby never puts your actual financial plan at riskThe real opportunity cost of stock picking as a "side hustle," and why it competes with your time as much as your moneyWhy a great company and a great stock investment are often two completely different thingsWhy This Matters NowThere's a point in a lot of people's financial journeys where the basics start to feel almost too simple, and that itch to do something more advanced is worth taking seriously, not dismissing. But "more advanced" doesn't automatically mean "individual stocks," and jumping in without genuine interest or a clear framework can turn a healthy curiosity into an expensive mistake. Knowing honestly whether you're drawn to the actual process of researching and following businesses, not just the idea of beating the market, is the difference between a rewarding new hobby and a costly detour from a plan that was already working. From the BasementA tight, competitive trivia round on Bank of America's 1958 "Fresno Drop," the unsolicited mass credit card mailing that eventually led to the creation of Visa, shakes up the year-long standings in a genuinely dramatic way.Resources MentionedStock Simplifier — Brian Feroldi's AI-powered stock research toolWhy Does The Stock Market Go Up? by Brian Feroldi — Brian's bestselling book on how the market worksAfford Anything podcast — Paula Pant's showPersonal Finance for Long-Term Investors podcast — Jesse Cramer's showSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Entrepreneurs get into business chasing freedom, and then build the hardest, worst job anyone could imagine. This episode is about getting the freedom back. Kelly sits down with Brian Herriot, author of the brand-new book Time Freedom, for a conversation on the reason most of us started a business in the first place. Brian shares the story that changed everything, his wife's double lung transplant 27 years ago and the vow they made leaving the hospital to stop waiting on some far-off retirement, and how he still drifted right back onto the corporate track before finally designing a life around what actually mattered. He and Kelly unpack why we get stuck (we start optimizing for money out of survival and never change gears), the danger of not knowing your "enough" number, and his core framework, the Time Freedom Formula, that aligns what it costs to live with your investments and flexible work so you can claim freedom years sooner. They get into the levels of freedom, why a 401(k) may not be the move everyone told you it was, what to do if you feel like you're already behind (Brian's promise: many people can reach time freedom in three years), and the reframe that unlocks it for most high achievers: time freedom usually isn't a completely different life, it's a one-step variation on the one you already have. This episode is the breakthrough.Ryan D. Lee is the founder of Wealth Outside Wall Street and bestselling author of Retire in 10 Years or Less. In this conversation, he and George unpack the money story running your business without your permission, the one number that tells you how close to free you actually are, and the six questions that move you from scarcity to abundance to prosperity. What You'll Learn In This Episode:Why chasing more money without defining enough guarantees you will never feel freeThe three foundational questions that take you from scarcity to abundanceThe three deeper questions that take you from abundance to prosperityWhat the strike number is and how to calculate yoursWhy nobody actually wants money and what they want insteadThe two economies and how to use both to your advantageRyan's Passive Income Machine: real estate plus high-cash-value life insuranceKey Takeaways:✔️The solution to more is enough. Until you define what enough is, you will chase money until the day you die.✔️Nobody wants money. They want what it can be traded for. Goals, values, and baseline necessities are the only three places money should go.✔️Three questions to move from scarcity to abundance: What do I want? Why does it matter? Who must I become?✔️Three questions to move from abundance to prosperity: Who am I? Why am I? How do I use my gifts in service of others?✔️Your strike number is the amount of passive income that covers your enough. Most people are closer to it than they think.✔️Money comes in and out with one root cause: lack of clarity. Define the target first, then build the path.✔️Fulfillment is the greatest currency. It comes from using your gifts in service of other people. Financial freedom buys you the space to find it.✔️Retirement is not the ending. Financial freedom is not a destination. On Generational Wealth "Real estate is something that is the best thing to invest in and pass down to future generations." [ On Estate Planning "This is not a money thing... It's an education thing." [ On Trusts "The best estate planning instrument is always going to be a trust." On Asset Ownership "Don't have anything in your own name, have it in the name of the trust or in the business." Overall Message Attorney Diane Clair's central message is that wealth creation and wealth preservation must work together. Building assets through real estate is important, but equally important is protecting those assets through proper business structures, trusts, estate planning, and professional legal guidance. The interview encourages listeners, especially entrepreneurs and minority communities, to think long term about generational wealth, asset protection, and financial legacy rather than short-term gains. Living longer changes almost every assumption behind traditional retirement planning. As more Americans reach retirement age and potentially spend decades in retirement, planning must extend well beyond simply building a large enough portfolio. Richard Rosso and Jonathan "Smarty" McCarty examine the financial realities of longevity, including the fear of running out of money, identifying reliable retirement income sources, withdrawal and tax strategies, long-term care and hybrid insurance policies, estate planning, charitable giving, inheritances, housing decisions, and determining which risks you can absorb versus those you should mitigate. Plus, they discuss the lack of credentials among some financial influencers, alternative ways to measure inflation and healthcare costs, the state of workplace financial and retirement-planning benefits, and the provocative question of whether advances in artificial intelligence represent another major societal turning point. Living to 100 may sound like a blessing, but financially preparing for it requires a very different retirement plan. 0:00 - - Finfluencers (financial influencers) Lack Credentials - Tracking Inflation w Multiple Metrics - Healthcare Cost Index - State of the Workplace - Financial Benefits & Retirement Planning Assistance - AI is self-aware: The Fifth Turning - Planning for Longevity - Estate Planning in Longevity Planning - The Silver Tsunami - American's Turning 65 & Living Longer - American's Working Longer - Longevity Coaching deficit - The Longevity Checklist - Living to 100 - The Fear of Running Out of Money - Know the Reliability of Income Sources - Withdrawal Strategies and Taxes in Old Age - Gifting and Charitable Intent - Home Renovation Planning - Longterm Care Insurance - Hybrid policies - Living Will Directives & Inheritances - Rockefeller's Donor Farm - Understanding Risks to Absorb vs Risks to Mitigate Hosted by RIA Advisors' Director of Financial Planning, Richard Rosso, CFP, w Senior Investment Advisor, Jonathan McCarty, CFP Produced by Brent Clanton, Executive Producer ------- Do you enjoy our content? Delphi Ventures founding partner Tommy Shaughnessy tells Kain and Taylor the AI slowdown talk is a moat against cheap Chinese models. Self-custodial. Whatever asset you're buying - swap it at http://unchainedcrypto.com/go/1inch-sn ======================================================== The Clarity Act failed a Senate cloture vote 49 to 50, and Kain Warwick and Taylor Monahan open by asking what crypto did wrong. Taylor thinks the Trump family's memecoins and World Liberty sank it. Kain worries the industry squandered its best shot at actual laws and is now counting on friendly SEC rulemaking instead. Guest Tommy Shaughnessy, founding partner of Delphi Ventures, argues that OpenAI and Anthropic's calls to slow AI down are a play for a regulatory moat, because Chinese open source models like DeepSeek are getting good and cheap. He also explains why he runs Delphi Ventures on its own AI agent instead of handing its data to Claude or ChatGPT. Kain says the fear inside the labs is genuine, and that the idea of simply shutting down the data center won't hold forever. They also cover Anthropic's report on a Chinese surveillance operation that surfaced in its logs, an $8M exploit of a Safe wallet that a 4-year-old yoink bot frontran, the SDNY charges against Robinhood engineers accused of trading tokens on Hyperliquid ahead of Robinhood listings, and why Wyoming's stable token dropped LayerZero for Chainlink. The Fed just hiked rates 12-0 — and Tony Arterburn of Wise Wolf Gold calls it a discount coupon to buy gold, pointing out that after Greenspan's 2004 rate hike, gold went from $400 to $1,900 by 2011. The rate hike isn't fighting money supply expansion — it's responding to energy inflation driven entirely by Trump's war, while the deficit is on pace for $1.8 trillion and diesel is breaking records with no ceiling in sight. Building a successful company can create generational wealth. But once you've had a big exit, figuring out how to invest that money without taking unnecessary risks can be more challenging than many people would think. That's why I'm excited to have Ben Rubenstein on the podcast. Ben is a serial entrepreneur, investor, and the founder and Principal of SetPoint Capital, an asset-backed private credit platform and technology company. He's had multiple 9-figure exits after co-founding Yodle, which sold for $342 million, and Opcity, which sold for $210 million. Today, Ben brings his experience as both an operator and investor to building technology and investment strategies across real estate, fintech, and private credit. In this conversation, we discuss the lessons Ben learned from scaling and exiting multiple companies and why he believes great businesses are built around customers rather than ideas. We also talk about what separates safer forms of private credit from the risks making headlines today, and how his experience on both sides of the table has shaped how he thinks about investing his own wealth. In this episode, you'll learn: ✅ Why Ben uses a barbell approach to investing that combines safer cash-flow investments with concentrated opportunities where he has a competitive advantage.✅ How asset-backed lending, aligned incentives, and new technology can create additional layers of protection for private credit investors.✅ Why deep due diligence becomes even more important as investors move beyond traditional stocks and bonds into alternative investments.Show Notes: LifestyleInvestor.com/308Tax Strategy MasterclassIf you're interested in learning more about Tax Strategy and how YOU can apply 28 of the best, most effective strategies right away, check out our BRAND NEW Tax Strategy Masterclass: www.lifestyleinvestor.com/taxStrategy Session For a limited time, my team is hosting free, personalized consultation calls to learn more about your goals and determine which of our courses or masterminds will get you to the next level. He is also the author of the newly published The Real Estate Wealth Creator Blueprint: Keys to Overcoming Fear, lack of Money, and Inexperience to Possess the Land. “The Real Estate Wealth Creator Blueprint by Dexter B. Jenkins isn’t your typical feel-good faith and finance book. It’s a wake-up call, plain and simple. For far too long, many believers have been trapped by misguided notions that faith and wealth don’t mix, or worse, that seeking financial success is somehow ‘unholy.’ Dexter blows that myth out of the water. As a pastor and financial mentor, he challenges you to stop limiting God’s abundance with a middle-class mindset. Real estate is the tool, but your faith is the engine that drives wealth creation. This book forces you to confront your beliefs about money, faith, and God's will—and if you’re not ready for that, this book isn't for you. But if you’re tired of playing small and are ready to align your beliefs with action, The Real Estate Wealth Creator Blueprint is the no-nonsense guide that will take you there." In this episode, Jennifer sits down with Matthew Booher, Co-Founder and Partnerships lead at Clad, to talk about something every childcare owner cares about, whether they enjoy talking about it or not: getting paid! You can have strong enrollment, healthy tuition numbers, and even profit on paper, but if parent payments or subsidy dollars are arriving late, it can still feel like you are constantly wondering where the cash went. With nearly 30 years in the PreK-12 world, Matthew brings a big-picture view of the financial challenges child care businesses are facing right now and some surprisingly creative ways to solve them. Jennifer and Matthew talk about creating more consistent cash flow, taking the uncomfortable job of chasing payments off an owner's plate, finding capital for things like payroll or a new playground, and even using financial tools to support enrollment growth. Most importantly, this conversation is about giving owners more stability and more time to get back to the reason they opened their doors in the first place: serving children and families. Key Takeaways: [5:18] Matthew shares how nearly 30 years in the PreK-12 industry eventually led him to join Clad and its mission of helping schools and child care centers. [7:02] Consistent cash flow can take a major financial and mental burden off owners so they can spend more time focused on children and families. [8:10] Late parent payments and inconsistent subsidy dollars are challenges showing up across the industry, so owners struggling with them are definitely not alone. [9:30] Matthew says one of the most consistent financial trends right now is actually inconsistency, which makes predictability even more valuable. [11:14] Matthew shares how access to short-term capital helped one center cover payroll during a difficult summer and another invest in a new playground. [11:45] Clad's model includes three main areas: consistent weekly cash flow, tools to support enrollment growth, and access to capital for investing back into the business. [12:57] Rather than treating every center the same, Matthew starts by understanding the owner's story, community, and specific financial needs. [14:40] Clad began with a former school owner who was tired of spending his time chasing tuition payments instead of doing the work he loved. [18:17] Centers can use Clad without replacing all of their existing software, making it more of an activation than a full technology overhaul. [19:21] Parent payments and subsidy funds can both be included so owners have a more predictable picture of what is actually reaching their bank account. [20:41] Consistent cash flow can give owners the working capital they need to make improvements that help their center stand out and grow. [24:18] Matthew encourages owners to take an honest look at whether money is really arriving on time, because a few late payments here and there add up. [25:00] Owners should also watch subsidy payments closely and connect with other providers when payment problems may be affecting an entire community. [26:16] Jennifer points out that big-hearted child care owners can easily become lenient about tuition without realizing how much those delays impact the business. [28:35] The goal of better financial systems is not to give owners one more thing to manage, but to get business tasks out of the way so they can return to their why. [30:18] Matthew understands why the model can sound too good to be true and encourages owners to do their homework and talk directly with centers already using it. [31:42] Even an owner who thinks cash flow is perfectly fine may discover another opportunity, from funding growth to opening an additional location. Quotes: "The one consistency we're seeing in the trends is that things are inconsistent." — Matthew [9:30] "We'll cover your payroll for a few months. And it saved her business, and it literally saved her." — Matthew [11:14] "He spent most of his time as a school owner chasing payments and getting parents to pay on time, and so he was not able to do what his passion was, which is to teach." — Matthew [14:40] "Clad is not an implementation; it's an activation." — Matthew [18:17] Sponsored By: Procare Solutions — Visit Procare Solutions and find out what running your center feels like when you finally have the right tools. Get the FREE BEGINNER'S GUIDE to self-directing an IRA and learn how to put your Roth dollars into real estate, private funds, startups, and crypto! Ready to build your tax-free bucket the right way — BOOK A FREE CALL with DirectedIRA and get the Roth IRA or Roth 401(k) accounts you need set up today!Roth IRAs and Roth 401(k)s share a first name and the same tax-free growth, but almost every rule that governs them is different — and picking the wrong one for your next dollar can cost you real money. Wealth lawyer and real estate investor Mat Sorensen breaks down the five biggest differences between these accounts and the funding order that lets you capture the best of both. What the five differences reveal:• Why high-income earners are phased out of Roth IRA contributions at $153,000 single or $242,000 married filing joint• How the Roth 401(k) allows $24,500 in 2026 versus $7,500 in a Roth IRA, plus catch-up and super catch-up amounts• Why an employer match can double your contribution on day one and should always be captured first• How Roth IRA contributions can come out any time tax- and penalty-free while Roth 401(k) dollars stay locked until 59½• When a 401(k) participant loan of half the balance up to $50,000 becomes your early access option• Why Roth 401(k) dollars can roll into a Roth IRA but Roth IRA dollars can never move back• The three-step funding order that gets the match, the flexibility, and the maximum Roth contributionThe bigger lesson is that these two accounts are teammates rather than rivals. One delivers a larger contribution limit and free employer money, while the other delivers investment freedom, early access to contributions, and control over where your tax-free dollars actually grow. The investors building the largest tax-free buckets are not the ones who picked a side — they are the ones who used both in the right sequence. This strategy is especially valuable for high-income earners, employees with a 401(k) match, self-employed investors using a solo 401(k), younger savers who may need early access, and anyone approaching retirement who wants to start their Roth IRA five-year clock now!Check out my youtube channel for more content on retirement planning and self-directed IRA topics!: https://www.youtube.com/@MatSorensenFor questions or to learn more about this episode's topic, book a call with an IRA specialist here: https://directedira.com/appointment/Interested in learning more about alternative investments? Episode 215 of Wrestling Tonight begins with the increasingly strange situation surrounding WWE and AAA Worlds Collide, which takes place September 26 in the Chicago market on the same night as AEW All Out. Fightful Select reported that WWE did not have broadcast plans listed internally as of Wednesday, despite a card featuring CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, Penta, Rey Fenix, Dominik Mysterio, Roxanne Perez and talent from WWE, NXT and AAA. That raises a bigger question than simply where the show can be watched. WWE created all the optics of direct counterprogramming by running the Allstate Arena while AEW runs All Out at the NOW Arena, yet nine days before the event there still isn't a confirmed live broadcast. We discuss whether WWE could potentially be reducing the scope of the head-to-head, while making clear there has been no reporting that WWE changed its plans because of AEW. There is also speculation that Worlds Collide footage could eventually surface on Club WWE, similar to the Stephanie Vaquer vs. Liv Morgan title match. Nothing has been confirmed, but if WWE ultimately uses Worlds Collide as exclusive or delayed content, it creates a completely different discussion about what WWE wants this event to accomplish. Is September 26 primarily about competing with AEW in Chicago, or could WWE see greater value in using desirable crossover content to make Club WWE more important? We look at that potential tradeoff and why the eventual distribution decision could completely change how this event is viewed. Elsewhere, Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling has a new Women's Champion. Priscilla Kelly defeated Gisele Shaw to end Shaw's reign of more than a year, with the title change airing only days after Shaw's exclusive NWA contract was announced. Shaw is already the NWA Women's Television Champion and has identified the NWA Women's World Championship as her next goal, while Priscilla Kelly immediately moves into a prominent position for MLP and will defend against Nikki Storm at Northern Rising on October 3. AEW All Out continues to take shape with Kazuchika Okada defending the AEW International Championship against Tommaso Ciampa in a fresh Psycho Killer vs. Rainmaker matchup. Rather than allowing Tommaso Ciampa to float around the roster after his arrival, AEW is immediately putting him opposite Kazuchika Okada in exactly the type of matchup that demonstrates the value of adding another experienced wrestler to an already deep roster. Hangman Page, Bandido and Brody King have also earned an AEW Trios Championship opportunity, but they won't know their opponents until Swerve Strickland and The New Level defend against The Demand on the final Dynamite before All Out. Darby Allin and Steven Borden will face Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight in an eliminator to determine the next challengers for whoever leaves Chicago with the AEW World Tag Team Championships. We discuss why AEW having championship stories moving both into and beyond All Out makes the surrounding television matter. Will Ospreay vs. Jon Moxley headlines an increasingly loaded Chicago card, while Adam Copeland and Christian Cage defend against FTR and The Young Bucks in a three-way ladder match, and Brawling Birds defend the AEW Women's Tag Team Championships against Divine Dominion in a Chicago Street Fight. The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is also officially returning after a two-year absence, this time with an expanded 14-team field featuring talent from NXT, AAA, Evolve, Raw and SmackDown. NXT Tag Team Champions Vanity Project, Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes, and AAA Tag Team Champions El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno have been confirmed and will receive first-round byes, while Julius Creed and Brutus Creed are also officially part of the tournament. We look at why the cross-brand format gives WWE an opportunity to make this Dusty Classic feel different from previous versions and why the eventual bracket needs to take advantage of the talent available. With eleven teams still to be announced, WWE has enough room to create genuinely different matchups rather than making this another mostly NXT tournament with a handful of outside appearances. NXT also has a new number one contender as Mason Rook defeated Tony D'Angelo and Saquon Shugars to earn the next shot at NXT Champion Grayson Waller. Tristan Angels pulled the referee out of the ring during a Saquon Shugars nearfall before Tony D'Angelo's back gave out while attempting Dead to Rights, allowing Mason Rook to capitalize with a top-rope splash and secure the victory. Grayson Waller confronted Mason Rook to close NXT, setting the stage for the next championship program. We discuss why the physical contrast gives NXT a simple story to work with and why Mason Rook doesn't need to become Grayson Waller's equal on the microphone. He needs to become the massive problem standing between Grayson Waller and keeping his championship. Because Mason Rook is big, he's bad, and he'll body slam your dad. Plus, we look ahead to another loaded week across wrestling as the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic begins on NXT, Swerve Strickland and The New Level defend the AEW Trios Championships against The Demand on Dynamite, Moose puts his career on the line against Frankie Kazarian on TNA Impact, Money in the Bank qualifying continues on SmackDown and Andrade El Idolo defends the AEW National Championship against Daniel Garcia on Collision. We also preview the major events coming up on the calendar, including AEW All Out and WWE & AAA Worlds Collide on September 26, NJPW Destruction in Kobe on September 27, WWE Money in the Bank on October 10, TNA Bound for Glory on October 11, CMLL/RevPro FantasticaMania UK and AEW WrestleDream on October 17, AAA Heroes Inmortales on October 24 and NXT Halloween Havoc on October 31. Episode 215 covers a week where the biggest story might be an event we still don't know how we're watching. WWE spent months creating the perception of a fight with AEW on September 26, but the lack of a confirmed Worlds Collide live broadcast raises legitimate questions about what WWE actually wants the event to accomplish. Add a loaded All Out card, Tommaso Ciampa going directly after Kazuchika Okada, Priscilla Kelly becoming MLP Women's Champion, the return of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and Mason Rook emerging as Grayson Waller's next challenger, and there is plenty to break down across WWE, AEW, NXT, MLP and the rest of the wrestling world.
