A Stranger Saved a Retired NYPD Officer's Life on Christmas Eve, A Special Episode Worth Hearing. This is more than a headline. It is a true story of survival, loss, depression, and an unexpected moment of human connection that changed everything. Look for The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on social media like their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. Dean Simpson is a retired police officer from the New York City Police Department. Years before this Christmas Eve, he was shot in the line of duty during a violent, life-and-death encounter. He survived the attack, but the shooting left him permanently disabled. What followed was a slow, painful unraveling that many first responders know too well. The inpsiring episode is streaming for free on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and most every major Podcast platform Purpose disappeared. Pain remained. Alcohol filled the silence. By December of 2001, Dean's life had narrowed to drinking, isolation, and attending one police funeral after another. Just three months earlier, the Twin Towers had fallen. While his fellow officers ran toward the chaos on September 11, Dean woke up late, hungover, and drowning in guilt. He still put on his uniform and reported to Ground Zero, working at “The Pile” for weeks, until he realized he wasn't helping anymore. A Stranger Saved a Retired NYPD Officer's Life on Christmas Eve, A Special Episode Worth Hearing. Supporting articles about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin . Then came Christmas Eve. That morning, Dean put his father's revolver in one pocket and his father's worn Bible in the other. He boarded a train at Penn Station with a one-way ticket upstate. He had already decided that once he reached his destination, his life would end. He chose a secluded place so no one would have to clean up the mess, a thought that haunted him even then. While the train rolled north through snow-covered landscapes, a stranger sat down next to him. Her name was Erin. She was a chatty grandmother with a red scarf and a warm smile, exactly the kind of person Dean did not want to talk to. She spoke about the beauty of the city, the holidays, life, and love. Dean sat in silence, angry at her optimism, angry at everything. When she finally asked what he loved about New York City, his response was cold and sharp. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and other podcast platforms. “I love being left alone.” Instead of snapping back or moving seats, Erin stayed. When Dean apologized, she accepted. Slowly, gently, she drew him into conversation. She shared her own story, her late husband, her children, her grandchildren. And for the first time in a long while, Dean talked about his life. About being shot. About losing his father. About feeling useless and invisible. A Stranger Saved a Retired NYPD Officer's Life on Christmas Eve, A Special Episode When the train reached Albany, Erin handed him a small pink note. “I don't know where you're headed,” she told him, “but when you get there, read this.” They hugged, and she was gone. Dean continued on to Black Mountain, climbing toward Lake George with ice-capped water below. At the summit, he opened his father's Bible. A scrap of paper fell out, marking a verse: Corinthians 10:13. To a cop, that number meant something else entirely, police code for officer needs assistance. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. Then he read Erin's note: “Dean, life is a gift meant to be shared. Don't ever give up hope. Merry Christmas. Erin.” In that moment, something lifted. The weight inside him eased. Dean emptied the revolver and threw it into the abyss. Then he turned around and walked back down the mountain. A Stranger Saved a Retired NYPD Officer's Life on Christmas Eve. That was the day a stranger saved his life. In this special episode of the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, Dean Simpson tells his story openly, not for attention, but to reach others who may be standing on the same edge. He speaks about trauma, addiction, purpose, and recovery. He shares how the badge shaped him, how it nearly broke him, and how one unexpected act of kindness redirected his life. His interview can be found on The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast website, on Apple podcasts, Spotify, Youtube and on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and across most podcast platforms where listeners will find authentic law enforcement stories. Dean is also the author of two books: The Blue Pawn: A Memoir of an NYPD Foot Soldier, a raw and unfiltered account of life in law enforcement, and Godless v. Trust: The Radical Left's Quest to Destroy Western Civilization, reflecting the worldview forged through experience and service. His story has been shared across Facebook, Instagram, and various news outlets, and is now featured in a special episode of a powerful podcast conversation. Listeners can hear Dean tell this story in his own words on Apple, Spotify, and other major podcast platforms. Today's episode takes Do You Hear What I Hear? from “nice old Christmas song” to “wait, this is actually about my life.” John unpacks the wild story of a man who survived the Nazis, fell in love without speaking the same language, and somehow wrote a carol that invites us to see the world the way God does. This is your gentle Advent reminder that God knows you on a level your closest friends don't. So if you are ready to move from thin faith to thick, honest, fully-alive faith, this one is going to land.

Christmas can be a hard time of year for folk, especially writers...Anyway, here we are, taking a look at Lynne Ramsay's MORVERN CALLAR: her second feature film about a young woman, her fiancé, her pal, and a quick trip to Spain in the New Year. You're probably thinking to yourself, "This sounds like LOVE ACTUALLY or something," but let's be real, this is LYNNE RAMSAY we're talking about here. It's dark, it's unforgiving, it's strange, and it looks really nice... Merry Christmas, everyone!

Ivey Gruber, President of the Michigan Talk Network, joins Steve to break down the latest wave of extreme campus culture, where 9 out of 10 college students reportedly believe that words can be violence. The conversation dives into a jaw-dropping example making the rounds: a woman on social media claiming that saying “Merry Christmas” amounts to “verbal rape.” Steve and Ivey explore how narratives like these take hold, the role political leadership plays in shaping campus environments, and how these exaggerated definitions of “harm” are creating fragile, hyper-reactive communities. From free speech concerns to the real-world consequences of redefining basic language as violence, this segment highlights the growing divide between common sense and ideological extremism.

Today John unpacks the meaning behind Good Christian Men, Rejoice and why the repeated word “news” lies at the center of the gospel itself. Learn how this medieval carol confronts the false gospels of success, power, and self-reliance, and rediscover why the incarnation is not advice but news; the life-changing announcement that heaven is now open and God is present with us today.
If Christmas usually feels more chaotic than joyful, this episode is the reset you need. Justin and Kylie unpack the research on what really makes Christmas happier—and what quietly steals the joy from it. You’ll hear the surprising predictors of Christmas wellbeing (hint: it’s not money, gifts, or how perfect your table looks) and why letting go of the pressure to “do it all” might be the best gift you give your family. A warm, funny, practical episode to help you create a Christmas that actually feels good. KEY POINTS Family connection and meaningful traditions are the strongest predictors of Christmas happiness. A sense of purpose—not perfection—makes the season more joyful. Environmental mindfulness is linked with higher wellbeing (yes… even at Christmas!). Consuming less and enjoying nature more boosts Christmas satisfaction. Materialism and gift overload significantly reduce Christmas happiness. Relationship challenges or fractured family dynamics can dampen joy. Age brings more Christmas happiness as expectations shift and priorities mature. Even though it's only the beginning of December you may have found yourself already singing the familiar words, “We wish you a Merry Christmas." But there's actually a bit of Advent in the verse that follows. In fact, there's a unique tie between Christmas pudding and the words of a prayer you may have heard spoken in church this past Sunday.

Christmas isn't about the gifts that we give and receive. Rather ,Christmas is a reminder of the Gift that God gave us over 2000 years ago. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." During these holidays I want to encourage you to stay close to Christ & point others to Christ because Jesus is the reason for the season.Merry CHRISTmas my Friend!Support the show
Today John unpacks the surprising story behind Good King Wenceslas:a carol based on Proverbs 11:25 and the life of a real historical ruler whose generosity transformed Bohemia. Discover how this song invites us to ask a different daily question (“What can I give?”), why generosity actually increases what we have, and how following in the steps of Jesus, and those who follow Him well, leads to a flourishing life.
[Go to www.seacoast.org/grief for more resources and support]Christmas brings out the jolliest of hearts for many — but for others, the season can stir up deep pain, longing, and grief. This year is Jill Forbes' second Christmas since the sudden and unexpected passing of her husband, and in this conversation, she invites listeners into what this season looks like for her now.Jill shares her story with hosts Lynne Stroy and Joey Svendsen, opening up about what she's learned so far, how she's navigating the slow work of healing, and the tension of holding both joy and sorrow at the same time. She talks about the curriculum she's developing to help people better prepare for grief and loss, and she reflects on the ways friends and community have shown support — and the ways people sometimes unintentionally miss the mark. Jill also names the parts of deep grief that really can't be understood unless you've lived through it.At the top of the episode, the hosts take a moment to talk through the old “Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays” culture wars, process the brokenness and beauty of our world, and hear Luke share what Christmas looks like for Christians in India. It's a tender, honest, and hopeful conversation — one that sits right in the middle of both ache and celebration, much like the season itself. On this episode: Jill ForbesHosts: Lynne Stroy, Joey Svendsen, Luke Gaikwad, Roy Jacques "What Child is This," by Seacoast Music. Segment 1 • America gives thanks… but to whom? • Christmas without Christ becomes consumer therapy, not worship. • When God is removed, holidays keep the name but lose the meaning. Segment 2 • Forcing companies to say “Merry Christmas” won't save anyone. • Secular businesses aren't the mission field — people are. • Shaming culture won't convert souls; the gospel will. Segment 3 • Marijuana has become America's coping mechanism for family holidays. • If you need to be high to survive Thanksgiving, something's broken. • God offers peace that doesn't fade, fog, or numb. Segment 4 • Anger, bitterness, fear—truth defeats what therapy slogans can't. • Memorized Scripture is emergency ammunition for the soul. • Assurance doesn't come from feeling strong — it comes from knowing Christ saves and keeps. ___ Thanks for listening!
