I'm wondering is there a financial disadvantage of just taking the longest mortgage deal you can (i.e. 40yrs for example) & then each time it's up for renewal don't worry too much about reducing the term. As long as the mortgage interest rate is lower than the average long term return you'd expect on the stock market (say min 6%), is it not just best to pay lower monthly mortgage payments each month and keep the spare money invested? On a pound vs pound basis aren't you better off? I understand the stock market can go up and down but over the long term I'm struggling to see what the disadvantage is of this strategy, apart from the apparent freedom of being mortgage free. Junior SIPP when worried about Junior ISA end date. I have heard that Parents/Family/Grand parents don't want to pay in to an ISA when you don't know how the child will react to suddenly having control of this ISA money at 18. A SIPP may be a better option. Also one to watch, if you are retired and contributing to charities and tick "Gift Aid" then HMRC may back charge you if you are not paying tax. Thanks for all you do, filling in the gaps in our financial education that should (but doesn't) start in school.   I'm 56 and looking at my later career options, something that contributes back and can supplement my (early) retirement income. I enjoyed the episodes you did on becoming a financial planner and if I were younger I may well have gone down that route. Instead I would like to help educate people on basic financial good practice. I'm particularly thinking about schools and young people. I am about to sell a property which I own outright and would like some advice on where to invest the money going forward, ie bonds, etf's, pensions, ive even considered premium bonds... I would rather spread the money into different pots rather than one product. I understand a pension would be the most tax efficient and I plan to put a small portion into my sipp and max out my s&s Isa however I'd rather be invested in something more flexible I don't intend to utilise the money anytime soon so I want to maximise its potential. I already have been investing in index funds for many years and built up a nice portfolio through s&s isa's. I listen to them on my daily walks and while cooking, and I always come away having learned something new—so thank you for all the insight you share! I have a question about planning my finances using the Die With Zero approach, especially as I have no children or spouse. I'm 52 this year and hope to hand in my notice in October 2026. I've always been a saver (largely out of insecurity!), so I'd really appreciate your thoughts on whether I have "enough," and—if so—how I can become a more confident spender in the next stage of my life. Here's a brief summary of my situation: I have around £300k across my ISA, general investment account, Premium bonds and cash savings. The allocation is roughly 20% equities / 60% UK gilts / 20% cash. This pot is intended to bridge the gap until my DB pension starts at 60. My DB pension is currently valued at about £18k per year (today's terms) and is inflation‑linked. I also have a SIPP worth around £500k, invested 85% in equities and 15% in money market funds. I have no debts. A small investment property brings in about £1000 a month. My spending target in retirement is about £2,500 per month after tax. ChatGPT has told me that I likely have enough to retire, but I still worry about worst‑case scenarios—war, high inflation, very low future returns for the next 20-30 years (e.g., below 3%), or needing long‑term care since I don't have family support. I value your thoughts before I finally hand in my notice lol. Thanks again for all the work you do. Abi   32:20  Question 6 Hi Pete and Roger, I'm a long time and regular listener and can even remember the time BR (Before Roger) although the modern era partnership has been some of the most entertaining content on the channel. THE CONTEXT I'm 41, married with kids (all out of nursery so no childcare free hours), we have a house with a mortgage. I'm employed full time, putting 19% of salary into my DC pension. I maxed my employer contribution of 8% (with 6% from me) back in 2019 and have steadily increased my contribution each year up to the current 11% (19% total). Currently the pot is worth ~£140k with monthly contributions of ~ £1,550. I'm in the very fortunate position that my salary growth has outpaced inflation and I am now teetering on the edge of the £100k mark. We also receive a variable annual bonus which is targeted at 10%. Pre Covid, we started a stocks and shares ISA, contributing £300/mo but when my wife was furloughed and subsequently made redundant, we had to stop those contributions. Still, that ISA pot has grown to ~£17k. I'd like to build up the ISA to give us flexibility on draw down in retirement but struggling to find the spare cash. Also mindful of creeping over the £100k threshold and reducing my tax free allowance so considering options like sacrificing part of my bonus this year into pension. THE QUESTION So the question, is it worth continuing to increase my pension contribution to 20% and beyond at this stage or start to focus more on building up ISA contributions. Cool Water and K.I.S.S. Evangelism Pastor Mark Havel Matthew 10:40-42[Jesus said,] “Whoever welcomes you welcomes me and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward. Whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a righteous person shall receive the reward of the righteous. And whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones – truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.” I always feel like we need to put this bit of Matthew's Gospel into some context, just in case you haven't been here for the last few weeks to here what Jesus has been up to.Up to this point in the 10th Chapter of Matthew's Gospel, Jesus has basically been laying out a job description for his disciples. And a lot of what they can expect isn't pretty, to be honest. If you were here, you remember there was all of that stuff about not bringing peace, but a sword and about families being separated, one from another, because of their affinity for, or their call to follow Jesus. There were even some warnings about arrest, persecution, and death, too.So it doesn't sound like such a great gig, being one of those first disciples: Hitting the streets with the Word of God. Knocking on doors to share the Good News of the Kingdom. Preaching the Gospel. Healing the sick. Inviting themselves into the hearts and lives and homes of people … welcoming strangers into The Way of following Jesus, who may or may not want anything at all to do with what they were selling.Which is where we end up today … at the end of this ministry plan … where it seems Jesus tries to wrap it all up on a high note, with some encouragement, some hope, some promised – if unidentified – “rewards” for doing this work, for accepting this mission, for living this life. Rewards for the disciples who welcome others into the fold AND rewards for those who welcome them as they do his bidding.A Facebook friend of mine, someone I knew in junior high and high school, posted a picture on social media this week and it made me laugh. It was a hot pink Post-It -note – handed to her by her UBER driver – that said, “God has something special for you. God bless you always. Smile, God loves you. (Smiley Face) Happy day!!!”My friend's response, via Facebook, was “OMG I'm in hell. I mean, Indiana.”It might help to know that my friend and I knew each other when we lived in the suburbs of Detroit, again when we were in Junior High and High School. She's lived most of her adult life in California, as far as I can tell – San Francisco and Oakland. She's always been an artist – drawing and painting – and she travels the world lecturing on things like Artificial Intelligence in the world of computers and technology that is utterly beyond me. (She does things in virtual reality like designing holograms and robots, for crying out loud.) She's always been a free-spirit, a deep thinker, and a non-conformist, yada, yada, yada.Which is why, I imagine, being back in the Midwest – and in “ruby red” Indiana, in particular – where presumptuous prayerful Post-It Notes that promise God's blessings and proclaim God's love to perfect strangers might as well be Mars – or feel like Hell – depending on your religious inclinations and if you're a cynical skeptic, like my friend. Which is why her reaction made me laugh. See, she's reached out to me via social media over the years – knowing I'm a Pastor – to say how disillusioned she's become with Christianity and the Church. She didn't get into specifics, but I have a hunch she means the politics of the “Evangelical Religious Right” and their treatment of women, LGBTQ+ people, and immigrants, among other things. I can laugh at her reaction to that uninvited, presumptuous Post-It Note, because I don't blame her one bit for her skeptical cynicism – based on all of that.My friend's experience alongside Jesus' marching orders for his disciples this morning about welcoming and being welcomed by others made me think there might be something to “knowing your audience” and “checking your motivation” when it comes to sharing grace and good news with people out there in the world.Too many Christians can be relentless about their evangelism, either because they really do love their neighbor, because they think it's on them to convert and save the souls of their neighbors, or both. Which is to say their efforts may be as well-intended as they are misguided, if you ask me. Because the fact is not everyone believes in or wants to be blessed by a God – or told to smile because of a God – they don't believe in – or that is different from the God they do believe in. And to be told such a thing by a stranger is presumptuous and cringey – if not offensive – to many people, like it or not. The audacity of it negates or dismisses or fails to care about the recipient's own faith – or lack of faith – with any measure of respect. It's akin to demanding we put the 10 Commandments into public school classrooms or making Bible stories part of public school curriculum. It's like wishing “Merry Christmas” to your Jewish neighbor or “Happy Hanukkah” to your Muslim co-worker.I think the simple explanation for all of this is that too many Christians take for granted our privileged place in our culture. And we forget that Jesus was living in a culture very different from ours – where he and his followers WERE NOT practicing a faith that was privileged or popular in their neck of the woods. And I think Jesus is saying, today, that we can welcome others more kindly, more faithfully, more graciously, more humbly, more simply, and more practically even, because of that. It's why he calls us to start with nothing more and nothing less than a cup of cold water.Jesus uses this image and example of cool water, because it's something with which his poor, peasant disciples – living on the road in the dust and the heat of Galilee – could relate. Water was a precious commodity in those days, and in that region, whether it was used for cooking or washing or to quench your thirst. Everyone needed it, wanted it and could find a use for it – no matter how much or how little of it you had to offer.It's why I think Jesus might be saying, “keep it simple stupid.” Sharing a cup of water is a simple way of encouraging his people to meet the needs of those in need; to meet people where they are; to graciously offer something practical and holy and to let the Holy Spirit of God's grace do the rest.So what constitutes a proverbial cup of cold water in our lives? What is it that you could share? What is it that others around you need? What is it – large or small – that could make a difference for someone in your circle? How can you … how can I … how might we … go about offering up these cold cups of water in welcoming ways that matter?Maybe it's handing over some cash, a gift card, or a bottle of cold water to the next beggar you pass on the street…Maybe it's sharing food by way of our food pantry that doesn't ascribe to all the rules, road blocks, and requirements that some food ministries demand…Maybe it's opening your church up to kids who could use a little more time and practice their English or their reading during summer break…Maybe, it's free “Mom Hugs” at a Pride festival for a kid whose own parents refuse to let them back in the house, now that they're out of the closet…Maybe it's mowing your elderly neighbor's lawn … maybe it's paying for some other kids' school supplies in your own child's classroom … maybe it's a more generous tip for the server at your favorite restaurant… maybe it's giving blood in the parking lot at Church on Sunday morning.I think it's doing any of the above – and whatever else moves you – quietly, compassionately, humbly, and trusting God's grace to do whatever God's grace will do with it. And I think this, because my Facebook friend from high school, the one who was scandalized by the pink Post-It Note from her Indiana Uber driver – despite her disdain and disillusionment with Christians and the Church these days – has also acknowledged, and found hope, in some of what she's seen me post and preach online – and in some of what she's noticed we have going on around here. She's told me it's given her a different kind of perspective about the way Christians and the Church can be – in and for the sake of the world. When we get it right, we really do do it with no questions asked, no requirements, no obligations, no pressure, and no strings attached – and people notice and are moved by that.There are cold cups of water in every one of our lives waiting to be shared with thirsty people all around us who are thirsty for something the world can't give. May we learn to discern what that looks like and how we might share it generously … with humility and faith … until hearts and lives are changed for the better and until the rewards of the kingdom are poured out for all people, and for the sake of the world.Amen

Aila's birthday dinner which ended with an impromptu dance show by Hattie and a  not-so-subtle take over by almost 2 year old Miles Zach's birthday party had animals- they had the most gorgeous rooster I've ever seen. After looking at machines for years, I finally bought an espresso maker. The girls Im going to Rhinebeck with this year started a Marco Polo group chat. Woke up early before NH Sheep and Wool- so I got a car wash and came with 10 min of vacuuming. I got that done and it felt SO good. Took a little field trip to the Beacon Hill Bookstore on Charles St with my co-workers. Past astronauts paid tribute to Christianity Dec. 24, 1968: Apollo 8's crew was the very first to orbit the Moon. These astronauts were Bill Anders, Jim Lovell, and Frank Borman. And they read from Gen. 1:1-10 (in the King James Version). But the Judeo-Christian roots of NASA go even deeper. General ideas: this is a generation still shaped by World War II. Some call this “positive world,” when churches/faith were in vogue. So was the actual gospel, co-mingled with “cultural Christianity.” Rocket engineer Wernher von Braun was one confessing Christian. These men did not just affirm Jesus as Savior but God as Creator. “And God said, ‘Let the waters under the Heavens be gathered together into one place. And let the dry land appear.' And it was so. And God called the dry land Earth. And the gathering together of the waters called he seas. And God saw that it was good.” And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas and God bless all of you—all of you on the good Earth. Apollo 8 Commander Frank Borman, Dec. 24, 1968 Many early astronauts publicly acknowledged Christ or religion. Among these were Captain Jim Lovell and Col. Buzz Aldrin. Aldrin, a Presbyterian, took a secret Communion on the Moon. During a pre-splashdown broadcast, he also read Psalm 8:3-4: “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou has ordained; What is man that thou art mindful of him? And the Son of Man, that thou visitest him?” According to a 2019 Catholic Sun article: It turns out Aldrin's religious faith is not an anomaly. In fact, the 29 astronauts who visited the moon during the Apollo program were a generally religious cohort. According to NASA, 23 were Protestant and six Catholic, with a high proportion of them serving as church leaders in their congregations. The astronauts didn't talk publicly about their faith very much, but that's largely because NASA started clamping down on public expressions of faith after the famous Christmas Eve Bible reading of Apollo 8, the first manned mission to the moon. So we can't ignore these 1960s-era acts of culture war. People didn't just get bored or naturally tired of public faith. They got intimidated and silenced by angry atheistic activism. Not the same as “classic humanism” mixed into scienctific pursuits. That often has Christian-based virtue, just without God or Christ. Ultimately this deconstruction kills the “science” it claims to love. Which leads to present-day selection bias among astronaut heroes. Captain Victor Glover, pilot of Artemis II in 2026 (NASA) 2. Present astronauts praise God, even Jesus “Good Earth.” Reading the Apollo 8 transcript, Stephen teared up. We've also heard that phrase recently repeated around Artemis II. Key point: you can't get far off Earth without loving this good Earth. You need to love God's creation, natural law, math, and science. And you must value knowledge, wisdom, adventure over comfort. Regardless of personal faith, you must acknowledge higher Good. This is what we saw most recently among Artemis II Among these, Captain Victor Glover is the most recently famous. You've likely seen his quotes circulating around social memes. In the Orion capsule named Integrity, Glover said this for Easter: I don’t have anything prepared. I think these observances are important. And as we are so far from Earth and looking back at the beauty of creation, I think for me, one of the really important personal perspectives that I have up here is I can really see Earth as one thing. When I read the Bible and I look at all of the amazing things that were done for us, who were created [to be]—you have this amazing place, this spaceship. You guys are talking to us because we're in a spaceship really far from Earth. But you're on a spaceship called Earth that was created to give us a place to live in the universe, in the cosmos. Maybe the distance we are from you makes you think what we’re doing is special. But we’re the same distance from you. And I’m trying to tell you—just trust me—you are special. In all of this emptiness—this is a whole bunch of nothing, this thing we call the universe—you have this oasis, this beautiful place that we get to exist together. I think, as we go into Easter Sunday, thinking about all the cultures all around the world, whether you celebrate it or not, whether you believe in God or not, this is an opportunity for us to remember where we are, who we are, and that we are the same thing, and that we’ve gotta get through this together. After returning, Glover shared similar thoughts to his neighborhood: Some of us have never met before and you know whose fault that is? Ours. So, let's choose to do this. Let's be this more. Captain Wilmore retired from NASA on August 6, 2025, after an illustrious career spanning 25 years. He feels called to use his experiences as an astronaut and his passion for astronomy to share the good news of God's Word. He joined fellow astronauts Colonel Jeffrey Williams and General Charlie Duke in speaking at the Astronaut Encounter, where the three shared their personal testimonies and incredible stories. Commander Reid Wiseman shared a similar story on April 16: When I got back on the on the ship—I’m not really a religious person—but there was just no other avenue for me to explain anything or to experience anything. So I asked for the chaplain on the Navy ship to just come visit us for a minute, and when that man walked in, I’d never met him before in my life. But I saw the cross on his collar, and I just broke down in tears. It’s very hard to fully grasp what we just went through. Not all astronauts are Christians. Not even if they speak of God. But they're doing amazing work in God's world for His good Earth. Jesus might say, “You are not far from the Kingdom” (Mark 12:34). 3. Future astronauts need space for Jesus Already we see “moon joy” that atheism cannot logically justify. Moreover, Space Race 2.0 isn't just trying to beat the enemy. This version truly seems to be built on more sustainable energy. At the very least it's built on Christianity-derived humanism. And it's based on hard work leading to merit and real achievement. If it's infected by false humanism and Sexualityism, it will collapse. Navelgazeitis will blind us, unable to gaze upon God's heavens. Astronauts can't live on that stuff. They'd never get off ground. For their jobs, they can certainly subsist on Christian principles. Those will get them to the heavens, to moonbases, and to Mars. It's not that foreign central banks dumped US-dollar-denominated assets, such as Treasury securities. They did not. They added a little to their holdings. Source: newsmax.com   New Files Show Epstein Was ‘Too Useful' for Banks to Drop — Trump Was ‘Too Politically Dangerous' to Keep  The newest Epstein disclosures include deposition testimony that illustrates, in unusually concrete detail, how major financial institutions assessed risk, value, and accountability. The transcript does not add new allegations about Epstein. Instead, it explains why he remained bankable long after his 2008 conviction and why his relationship with major banks survived despite generating almost no traditional revenue. That institutional logic is the same logic that later drove JPMorgan to end its ties with Trump Media, and the contrast between the two cases shows how selectively these standards are applied. In the deposition, Paul Morris—a private banker who handled Epstein's accounts at JPMorgan Chase and later Deutsche Bank—described Epstein's financial profile with unusual precision. Epstein's trading was minimal. His accounts produced limited fees. He was not a high-activity client and did not utilize the investment tools that banks rely on to generate consistent revenue. By every conventional benchmark, he was a low-value account. And yet, the relationship continued. The deposition shows why. Epstein was not retained for his financial performance but for his institutional usefulness. Morris acknowledged that Epstein facilitated introductions to ultra-wealthy individuals that the bank viewed as essential prospects. One example was Leon Black, whom Morris identified as a “priority prospect” because of Black's significant net worth and influence in the investment sector. Epstein introduced the bank to real-estate investor Andrew Farkas and discussed a potential connection involving biotech investor Boris Nikolic, who had ties to Bill Gates. These introductions were specific, documented, and initiated by Epstein, not the bank. This is the key element that many public accounts overlook. Epstein was not being managed as a traditional client. He functioned as a relationship broker inside a system where introductions to power carry more internal value than account-level returns. Europe will keep defending its values — freedom of expression, fair digital rules, and the right to regulate our own space.” The “attempt to challenge our sovereignty” statement is a particular type of hubris when we consider THIS: GREAT BRITAIN (October 2024) – The British Labour Party is sending approximately 100 current and former staff members to the United States to work for Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign in key swing states. It is worth remembering the British intelligence operation, (Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), commonly known as MI6), was at the center of the Trump-Russia collusion conspiracy in 2016. The first EU political group to be targeted with the visa bans includes French former EU commissioner Thierry Breton, who was one of the architects of the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA). I spent a lot of my life in the Middle East and Central Asia, working closely with foreign contractors and foreign governments to provide support to American military operations. As a US Army officer with a big checkbook courtesy of Uncle Sam, I can't really count the sheer number of times I was offered bribes to award a contract, or falsify records to do things like create larger (fake) headcounts at places like dining facilities, or to just simply be on the take for future illegal requests. Of course I had enough sense to never comply with such requests. The weird thing about this to me was that whenever I turned down such an offering, it was treated as a grave insult. I was the one in the wrong, and not the fraudster trying to bribe me. We are raised on the presumption that our institutions are valid, that the rule of law always prevails, and that integrity is universal. FBI New York Assistant Director in Charge Diego Rodriguez advised agents in Washington to ask Clinton several questions about the foundation, which are reproduced in full in documents released to the Senate Judiciary Committee by the FBI and published on Dec. 15. The questions reveal the concerns about foreign bribery that the Clinton Foundation case — codenamed “Cracked Foundation” — had uncovered. The new documents confirm that the FBI had at one time been “intercepting individuals associated with the Clinton Foundation.” Source: westernjournal.com  John Brennan's Lawfare Lawyers are Revealing More Than They Intend   former CIA Director John Brennan are sending proactive letters to the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Florida {SEE HERE}.  However, some of the information included in the letters intended to be exculpatory is actually damning against their defense position. You have to go deep in the weeds to see it but if you understand the details of the events, the information being revealed by Brennan's lawyers is the opposite of helpful to his case.  As an example, there is a citation included in a footnote of the December 22, 2025, [fn #20 page 6] letter that links to a March 31, 2022, letter sent to John Durham. Here's page 6 of the 2025 letter. Compare the underlined section to the 2022 letter sent to John Durham. In 2025 Brennan is telling the Florida court the Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) conclusion was confirmed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller in a “very serious review.”  However, in 2022 Brennan told John Durham that Robert Mueller never interviewed him or offered an assessment of the ICA; Mueller just regurgitated it. So, which is it? These contradictions are throughout both of the letters when you compare them side-by-side.  In 2022 former CIA Director John Brennan was trying to escape the Durham review.  In 2025 Brennan is trying to escape a grand jury review. [We are aware that the U.S Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Jason Reding Quiñones, has access to the CTH public library of research into all of these historic events.] There are other citations in the 2022 letter that are certainly worth reviewing because the legally binding statements made by John Brennan at the time have been shown to be false in 2025.
