Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor's fascination with brain health and human psychology began with a personal question: why do people perceive the same world so differently? After growing up with a brother diagnosed with schizophrenia, she dedicated her life to understanding the brain. At age 37, she suffered a massive stroke and watched her brain shut down in real time. That experience gave her rare insight into how the brain truly works. In this episode, Dr. Jill shares her whole-brain framework and explains how understanding our four brain characters can transform how we think, feel, and show up in life and business. In this episode, Hala and Dr. Jill will discuss: (00:00) Introduction (02:51) Childhood Curiosity About the Human Brain (10:14) Experiencing a Stroke at Age 37 (20:38) Warning Signs and Prevention of Stroke (25:13) Watching Her Brain Shut Down (33:45) The Four Brain Characters (44:05) Debunking Left vs. Right Brain Myths (51:19) Whole-Brain Thinking for Entrepreneurs (53:57) Why Society Is Left-Brain Dominant (1:04:24) Can You Control Your Brain? Magnesium deficiency symptoms are often missed on standard blood tests. In this video, we explore the key benefits of magnesium, common hidden magnesium deficiency symptoms, and how magnesium may help support anxiety, sleep, stress, and overall wellness.Download Dr. Berg's Free Daily Health Routine: https://drbrg.co/45qtO070:00 Introduction: Hidden magnesium deficiency symptoms 1:02 What causes magnesium deficiency?1:36 Magnesium for anxiety 2:21 Eye twitching and magnesium deficiency6:11 What kind of magnesium to take6:37 Magnesium glycinate benefits7:17 When to take magnesium8:13 Health tips to avoid magnesium deficiency8:47 Magnesium and vitamin DMost of the magnesium in your body is inside your bones and cells. Only 0.3% of your magnesium is in your blood serum. One of the biggest mistakes people make when assessing magnesium deficiency is relying on blood magnesium levels.Over 300 medications can deplete your magnesium levels. Other factors that can cause magnesium deficiency include the following:• Stress• Sugar• Caffeine • Alcohol• High insulin • Low stomach acid• Low salt• Low vitamin DHere are 9 of the most common magnesium deficiency symptoms:1. Anxiety/panic attacks2. Waking up at 2 AM3. Eye twitching (tetany)4. Heart pounding after eating5. Exhausted from thinking 6. Random chest tightness7. Sugar or carb cravings8. Wired but tired 9. Feeling heavyRestless legs syndrome can also result from a magnesium deficiency.Magnesium oxide is one of the most common forms of magnesium available, but also the worst! It has a 3% absorption rate and can cause diarrhea at higher doses. Magnesium glycinate combines magnesium with glycine, a protein that supports GABA in the brain, and has an absorption rate of 80%. The best time to take magnesium is late in the day. When taking more than 400 mg of magnesium, spread your doses throughout the day.To avoid magnesium deficiency, follow a low-carb diet, increase your stomach acid, and ensure you're getting enough vitamin D.Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio:Dr. Berg, age 60, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. If you hired an ad agency to save time and make more money… but you're still doing the creative, still managing the process, and still feeling unclear about what's actually working? This episode is for you. In today's episode, Claire shares five warning signs it might be time to cut ties with your ad agency or consultant — even if they've been with you for a while, even if you like them, even if they've "helped in past launches." Some of these red flags are obvious. One of them is hiding in plain sight inside Ads Manager. And one of them is the reason a lot of businesses end up paying for "support" that actually slows them down. If you want a faster, simpler, more profitable relationship with ads — this is the listen. This Week on the Get Paid Podcast: The un-subtle Ads Manager clue that tells you your agency is running an outdated setup The timeline standard that should never be missed when you're running ads for a live event The "quiet leak" that drains budget (and why it's a bigger deal than most people realize) The ROI question you should be asking (but probably aren't) The one factor that determines whether outsourcing ads is smart… or just expensive Mentioned in this episode: Get Paid Marketing (GPM): clairepels.com/waitlist Now it's time to GET PAID

Two separate shootings this week raised national security concerns. At Old Dominion University in Virginia, authorities say the gunman was Mohamed Jalloh, a former Army National Guard member previously convicted in 2016 of attempting to provide material support to ISIS. He served about 11 years in federal prison and was released in 2024 before killing one person and wounding two others. In Michigan, an attack at Temple Israel synagogue was carried out by Ayman Ghazali, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Lebanon. Ghazali was killed by synagogue security during the attack. In December of 2015, 27-year-old Jessie Bardwell moved from Alabama to Texas to live with her boyfriend, 28-year-old Jason Lowe. Her friends and family knew this was a bad situation for her–Jason was abusive and controlling over every facet of her life. In May of 2016, Jessie disappeared, and her father Gary sprung into action. He traveled to Texas himself and got the police involved. Chuck Zodda and Paul Lane break down why February's CPI report may already be outdated — and why March inflation could jump sharply as higher oil prices feed through the system. They cover:• How gasoline's weighting in CPI could push the next reading dramatically higher• Why fertilizer, helium, and semiconductors matter in a prolonged Strait of Hormuz disruption• The growing risk of global shortages if energy flows don't normalize• Why financial stocks are quietly flashing caution signs• JPMorgan tightening exposure to private creditPlus: Oracle rallies on AI momentum, what strong spending from high-income earners means for the economy, and whether markets are underpricing broader risk.
When growth is “working” but the business feels heavier every month, that isn't burnout — it's leakage. Avoidance turns into operational drag long before revenue forces the conversation. When accountability gets selective, follow-up drops, decisions slow, and differentiation disappears. You don't get beaten by the market — you get commoditized by your own execution. That drag doesn't just feel bad. It quietly re-writes EBITDA and margin while the leader is often the last one to hear what's actually happening. Jim Brown brings the buyer lens: what most teams call “culture” is a performance multiplier — and when the CEO becomes the bottleneck, key-man risk compounds fast. He's seen $50M companies become effectively unsellable because the business can't run without the leader. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

"I trust only you"In this episode, Gary Miles unpacks a paradox every successful attorney eventually faces: the moment a client's highest compliment becomes a lock on the prison door of success. Being indispensable creates a dangerous bottleneck in our legal practice that stunts associate growth, kills firm scalability, and leads to inevitable burnout. He breaks down the four measurable costs of this authority trap and offers three specific identity shifts to help you transition from a one person show to a leader of institutional excellence. The South Korean KOSPI index plunged almost 20% over the last two days, something Charles Schwab's Michelle Gibley attributes to a greater alliance on natural gas amid energy volatility. She adds that the storage chip supply shortage adds to complications for South Korea's economic picture. When asked if it's an indicator toward greater pressures to come, Joe Mazzola says it all depends on how long the Iranian conflict lasts. ======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors. Send a textThere's a moment that many successful medical practices reach where something feels… off.Volume is up. The practice is growing. On paper, things look good—sometimes even great. And yet, the day-to-day experience feels harder than it used to. Communication takes more effort. Decisions feel heavier. Small issues seem to snowball faster than expected.Instead of growth feeling energizing, it starts to feel exhausting. That's the moment we're talking about today. Because growth is supposed to make things better, not more chaotic. And when success starts creating friction inside a practice, it's not a sign that something is wrong—it's a sign that the practice is changing. Please Follow or Subscribe to get new episodes delivered to you as soon as they drop! Building the Business You Really Want: Strategic Alignment and Intentional Success with Gwen BortnerIn a recent episode of The Thoughtful Entrepreneur Podcast, host Josh Elledge sat down with Gwen Bortner, the founder of Everyday Effectiveness, to explore the vital intersection of business strategy and personal fulfillment. With a career spanning over four decades and 47 different industries, Gwen brings a master-level perspective to organizational design and leadership accountability. Their conversation serves as a roadmap for entrepreneurs—particularly women leaders—who find themselves achieving traditional milestones of "success" yet feeling disconnected from the joy and purpose that originally sparked their journey. Gwen shares how to dismantle the "shoulds" of the business world to remodel a venture that is both highly effective and deeply aligned with the owner's authentic vision.Reclaiming the Vision: Remodeling Your Business for Long-Term SustainabilityThe transition from a high-growth startup to a sustainable, fulfilling enterprise requires a radical shift in how a leader defines success. Gwen explains that many founders fall into the trap of chasing external benchmarks—revenue targets, headcount, or market status—that don't actually resonate with their personal values. This misalignment often leads to a persistent dread of the workweek and a sense of chronic exhaustion, even when the balance sheet looks healthy. To correct this, business owners must engage in a process of "intentional remodeling," auditing every aspect of their operations to ensure the business is serving the life they want to live, rather than the other way around.A common hurdle for high-achievers is the tendency to move the goalposts the moment a victory is achieved, which effectively eliminates the opportunity for reflection and celebration. Gwen emphasizes that celebrating wins is not just about a temporary "victory lap"; it is a strategic tool for identifying what is actually working within the business. By conducting a "success audit," entrepreneurs can isolate the specific behaviors and strategies that led to a positive outcome, allowing them to replicate those results with less friction in the future. Without this pause to acknowledge progress, leaders risk burning out on a treadmill of endless tasks that offer no emotional return on investment.Strategic advisory plays a crucial role in this process, acting as a mirror for the "hard questions" that entrepreneurs often avoid. Gwen describes her role as a strategic accountability partner who helps CEOs cut through the noise of daily operations to confront uncomfortable truths about their direction. This level of intentionality ensures that any pivot or change in the business model is a conscious choice based on long-term goals rather than a reactive response to temporary distractions. By building a culture of strategic questioning and embracing mindfulness—even through creative hobbies that engage the brain in new ways—leaders can maintain the clarity needed to build a legacy that is as sustainable as it is profitable.About Gwen BortnerGwen Bortner is the Owner, Consultant, and Speaker behind Everyday Effectiveness. With more than 40 years of experience helping organizations scale and align, Gwen specializes in acting as an "advisory board of one" for women CEOs and founders. She is known for her holistic approach to business, combining high-level strategic thinking with a deep focus on personal accountability and fulfillment.About Everyday EffectivenessEveryday Effectiveness is a strategic consultancy that helps business owners move from feeling overwhelmed to achieving intentional, effective growth. The company provides strategic advisory services, accountability coaching, and resources designed to help entrepreneurs remodel their businesses for better alignment, sustainability, and joy.Links Mentioned in This EpisodeEveryday Effectiveness Official WebsiteGwen Bortner on LinkedInKey Episode HighlightsDefining Authentic Success: Why entrepreneurs must stop chasing industry "shoulds" and create their own metrics for a fulfilling life and business. The Warning Signs of Misalignment: How to recognize when your business model is no longer serving your personal well-being or long-term vision. The Strategic Value of Hobbies: Why engaging in repetitive, mindful activities like quilting can actually sharpen a leader's problem-solving faculties.Success Auditing: The importance of pausing to celebrate wins and analyzing what worked to build reproducible momentum. The Power of the "Hard Question": How having an external advisory perspective can help you avoid "shiny object syndrome" and stay committed to your true goals.ConclusionThis conversation with Gwen Bortner underscores that the ultimate goal of entrepreneurship should be freedom and fulfillment, not just financial gain. By prioritizing strategic alignment and having the courage to ask difficult questions, you can remodel your path to create a business that truly serves you.More from The Thoughtful Entrepreneur

Taboo to Truth: Unapologetic Conversations About Sexuality in Midlife
Half of men over 40 will experience erectile dysfunction. In this episode, I explain why ED is rarely only about sex. I walk you through what erections actually reveal about cardiovascular health, metabolic function, hormones, pelvic floor tension, and fertility.I break down why urologists call the penis a barometer of heart health. The blood vessels that support erections are smaller than the ones that support your heart and brain. That means they often show damage earlier. In many cases, ED appears years before a heart attack or stroke.I also talk about diabetes, high cholesterol, nitric oxide, testosterone shifts, excess body fat, and sperm quality after 40. We cover pelvic floor tension in men and why many men struggle with tight muscles, not weak ones.I share evidence informed tools some men use while they work on underlying health. These are not cures. They are supports. Most importantly, I reframe ED as information. Not shame. Not failure. A small town in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia has been devastated. An 18-year-old killed their mother and stepbrother before entering a local school. By the end of the day, six students, one teacher, and the shooter were dead. Twenty-five others were injured. In total, ten lives were lost. In this episode of Stop the Killing, former head of the FBI's Active Shooter Program Katherine Schweit examines what we know so far about the Canada school shooting — and what communities can learn from it. We explore: Reported warning signs prior to the attack Mental health gaps and intervention challenges Canada's firearm licensing system How Canadian gun laws compare to the United States The role of online violent content What parents and schools should watch for School shootings are rare in Canada. The last comparable tragedy of this scale occurred in 1989. That rarity can create a dangerous belief: “It can't happen here.” But prevention starts long before a trigger is pulled. In this episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosts Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton talk about the kind of burnout that doesn't announce itself with collapse, tears, or a dramatic breaking point. It's the slow, quiet burnout that builds under discipline, professionalism, and "I'm fine" (Amazon Affiliate) until one day you realize your joy is gone, your patience is thin, and your sense of purpose feels hollow. This is the burnout that hides behind high performance, dark humor, long hours, and doing what needs to be done without complaint. The kind that sneaks up on first responders who are still showing up, still functioning, still leading—but internally running on fumes.
