Erika is joined by friend of the pod and special guest Ashton to react to a Reddit post from a woman who is absolutely DONE being pregnant — stretch marks in places she didn't know could stretch, a partner telling her "your body will be better than ever," and a mom who just keeps saying "focus on the baby." YIKES. We get into why pregnancy horror stories are kept so quiet, the evolutionary reason human childbirth is uniquely dangerous, why women's pain gets minimized the second there's a baby involved, and the man on Instagram who came home for 1-2 hours a day and considered himself a parenting expert. Also: Ashton makes a great case for Dinky trips. From Breakthroughs to Budget Cuts: The Rollercoaster of Modern Medical Research What happens when politics wages war on science—and Christians get caught in the blast radius? In this Good Faith Podcast episode, Curtis Chang talks with former NIH director Dr. Francis Collins and BioLogos president Dr. Kristine Torjesen about Collins' forced exit from NIH, the shutdown of a major HIV prevention programs in Africa, and how cuts to vaccines, medical research, and public health are threatening lives and future breakthroughs in cancer, Alzheimer's, and pandemic preparedness. They also confront vaccine distrust, anti-institution politics, and evangelical skepticism of science, while making the case that science is not the enemy of faith but a gift from God for truth, healing, and human flourishing. Childhood anxiety is more common than many parents realize, and it can show up in ways that are confusing or overwhelming for both children and the adults who care for them. In this episode, we explore how worries take shape in a child's mind and what families can do to help children build confidence, resilience, and bravery in the face of fear.Inspired by the ideas behind Shrink Your Worries, this conversation focuses on practical ways to help children understand their anxious thoughts, calm their bodies, and gradually face the situations that feel scary. Rather than trying to eliminate worry completely, the goal is to help children learn that they are capable of moving through fear with the right tools and support. We discuss why worries can feel so big for children, how avoidance can unintentionally strengthen anxiety, and why small steps toward bravery can make a powerful difference over time. Parents will also learn how to respond to anxious moments with calm, connection, and encouragement so children feel supported rather than overwhelmed. This episode is especially helpful for parents, educators, and professionals who want to better understand childhood anxiety and learn practical strategies that empower children to face their worries with courage. To find out more about Poppy, click here , more here too on Poppy's instagram: https://www.instagram.com/poppyoneillbooks/ Hosted on Acast. Something has shifted in childhood. Parents feel it, but most can't quite explain it. Conversations are happening earlier. Pressure is showing up sooner. And the pace of childhood feels like it's speeding up right in front of us. So parents are left wondering: Is Childhood Disappearing? Or are we raising children in a completely different world? In this powerful episode, Connie Albers names what many are experiencing but few are able to articulate. She introduces a framework called The Age of Acceleration, and unpacks the five forces quietly re-shaping childhood today. You'll begin to see: Why exposure is happening earlier than development can support Why technology is advancing faster than wisdom Why children are feeling more, but aren't equipped to handle it And why parenting today feels heavier, faster, and less predictable But this episode doesn't just explain the shift. It helps you understand your role within it. Because when you can name what's happening, something changes. You stop second-guessing. You stop reacting to the chaos. And you start leading your family with clarity again. Childhood isn't disappearing. But it is being reshaped. And when you understand how, you can raise children who are steady, even in a world that isn't. Genesis 25:28Playing favourites is nothing new. In fact, the Old Testament story of Jacob and Esau describes a family torn apart by favouritism. Parents and teachers today can learn from this family story—favouritism causes division that continues for generations.
Society often frames addiction as a simple issue of bad choices, weak character, or poor parenting. But those messages don't just impact the person struggling with addiction. They also deeply affect the families who love them. Parents, spouses, and partners are often left carrying intense shame, second-guessing every decision, and feeling like no matter what they do, it's wrong. In this episode, we unpack how these cultural narratives shape the way families think about addiction and why they can leave you feeling confused, guilty, and stuck in constant self-judgment. The truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all strategy for navigating addiction in someone you love. Every situation is different, and the choices you make are often far more complicated than people on the outside realize. If you've been struggling to balance boundaries, compassion, and the guilt that often comes with both, this conversation will help you step out of the trap of believing you're “doing it wrong.” You'll learn how societal expectations quietly set families up to feel stupid, bad, or responsible for things they cannot control and how shifting that perspective can bring a little more clarity and self-trust back into the process. This episode is about letting go of the pressure to handle addiction perfectly and giving yourself permission to respond in ways that are thoughtful, sustainable, and right for your situation. In Episode 202 of Todos Toman, the crew looks a little different—Migue is out on personal business, so Tank, Johnny Boy, and Romero are holding down the mic. This week, we're diving deep into a shared reality for so many of us: being our parents' translators. We discuss the reality of growing up "real fast" when you're an elementary schooler trying to decipher medical bills, legal paperwork, and bank letters for your parents. We explore how that early responsibility shaped who we are today and the "go-to" support roles we still play as adults. In this episode, we discuss:The stress of translating complex documents before we even knew our own homework. How being a "child translator" accelerates adulthood. The ongoing responsibility of being the family's administrative backbone. The Cycle: How our upbringing creates expectations for our own kids that might not be fair to them—or us.Are we putting too much on the next generation because of what we went through? Let's talk about it.

Most parents think they know what their child's OCD looks like. They see the washing. The checking. The obvious behaviors. But what they're usually seeing is just the tip of the iceberg.OCD isn't only handwashing or checking. It's mental reviewing, silent debating, internal checking, trying to “neutralize” a thought, confessing, reassurance seeking, avoidance, symmetry rituals, and that constant need for things to feel just right. Many of the most powerful compulsions happen completely inside your child's mind, which means you will never see all of them.In this episode, we're talking about how OCD really works, why you can't be the OCD police, and how to shift from trying to catch compulsions to teaching your child the skills to delay and resist them. Because empowerment, not surveillance, is what actually builds long term resilience. If you want detailed guidance on how to teach your child to handle OCD at home, you can learn more at www.natashadaniels.com/parentcourse.If you are a parent who feels like you're missing something but can't quite see what OCD is doing behind the scenes, this episode is for you.Get this week's PDF handout at www.natashadaniels.com/handout***This podcast episode is sponsored by NOCD. "It kind of felt like it was just her and I against the world." - Ann Garner When a child develops fibromyalgia or another chronic pain condition, it can feel incredibly isolating for the whole family. Parents are trying to understand the condition themselves while also advocating for their child with doctors, teachers, and even extended family members who may not fully believe what's happening. As a parent without a community, it feels like you're navigating everything on your own. For kids living with fibromyalgia, that isolation can be even harder. Their pain is invisible, and they're quietly managing limitations their peers can't see. Finding others who really understand that experience can be life-changing. Connecting with people who are on a similar journey often brings community, validation, and hope for the future. In this episode, Tami is joined by Ann Garner, a Certified Fibromyalgia Coach® and mom raising a teenager with fibromyalgia and ME/CFS, to talk about her family's experience attending family camp held by the Pediatric Pain Warriors program from the US Pain Foundation. Tami and Ann talk about her daughter Lily's early symptoms and the long road to receiving a fibromyalgia diagnosis, Ann's experience as a mother with fibromyalgia watching her daughter develop similar symptoms, the importance of learning to advocate for your child, how Ann discovered the Pediatric Pain Warriors program, what it was like to attend their first camp, how adaptive activities, sports, and support groups create an inclusive environment where kids with chronic pain can feel capable and supported, the strong support network that formed with other families at the camp, navigating the challenge of learning to be authentic about pain, how the camp experience changed Ann's perspective as both a coach and a parent, why community and shared experience matter so much for families navigating chronic illness, and more. Part 3: On the 22nd of December 2025, Republican appointed federal Judge Roger Benitez (Cuban ethnicity) struck down the Democrat mandated lying to parents in the K-12 school system. We covered it beginning in late December 2025 and in a second episode in late January 2026 Unusual behavior or conduct of a student at school isn't grounds for a violation of Constitutional rights, Benitez held in Mirabelli v. Olson (Filed 22 Dec 2025), available here : https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/63d954d4e4ad424df7819d46/6949e11ea6bae817c8eaf637_Dkt%20%20307_MSJ%20Order.pdf Part 3. We cover from page 18 at line 24 through to Part B on page 30. We'll continue from there next time. This episode includes a Chaplain's corner prayer time thanking the Lord for Roger Benitez and asking for wisdom for the future. Is virtue something that is innate? Or can it be learned, practiced, and grown in our lives? It's an important question, especially for students and young adults who are discovering God's calling and purpose for their lives.Last year, we were privileged to host Dr. Grant Horner, Director of the Classical Liberal Arts Program at The Master's University, to speak with our 11th and 12th grade students on the topic of virtue: what is it, why we should aim for it, and what a virtuous life looks like for a disciple of Christ. And, he does it with plenty of humor as well as soul searching scriptural truths.Parents - you will not only be inspired and exhorted yourselves to "live a life worthy of the calling you have received" - but for those of you who have students at a classical Christian school, you will also be grateful that this is what your students' teachers are guiding them towards.Listen to it all at once, or take some time to come back to this longer episode if you have to; it's a worthwhile listen all the way to the end, including some very thought-provoking questions from our students. This season of Cultivate is sponsored by Hershey Financial Advisers, a wealth management firm located on North Pointe Blvd in Lancaster, leading people to make better financial decisions, and empowering them to fulfill a vision beyond themselves.

This is the grand finale of our five episode arc about soundtracks, and today I'm pulling three random cards from my original Soundtracks deck to break down what they mean and how they can help you. We're talking about why starting is exciting but finishing is where the magic happens (spoiler: 92% of New Year's resolutions fail because everyone starts but only 8% finish), why feeling uncomfortable is actually a good sign that you're growing, and why the world will never be changed by the things you almost did. If you've got an almost list (and we all do), this episode will challenge you to rescue just one thing from it. These aren't just cards. They're conversation starters, daily reminders, and tools to help you retire broken soundtracks and replace them with powerful new ones. Growth is the goal, not comfort. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Jake and Romy Reiner are done. Sources close to the family told TMZ directly: "Nick's defense is Nick's defense. They're not involved." The high-profile defense attorney they initially funded—Alan Jackson, known for winning the Karen Read acquittal—withdrew from the case in January. Nick Reiner now has a public defender. Reports indicate his siblings won't attend the trial. In over two months of incarceration, his only visitor has been his lawyer. This Hidden Killers Week In Review examines what brought two siblings to this point—and what his not guilty plea actually signals.Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances in the December 14th stabbing deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, at their Brentwood home. But that plea wasn't a claim of innocence. It was a procedural placeholder keeping all defense options open.In California, pursuing an insanity defense requires a dual plea. The single not guilty keeps doors open while psychiatric evaluations continue. Door one: full insanity under M'Naghten—a longshot given Nick was arguing with his father at a party hours before the killings. Door two: diminished actuality using his schizoaffective disorder to argue he couldn't form specific intent. Door three: incompetence to stand trial. After eighteen rehabs, a conservatorship, and years of police visits to the family home, what does it cost to finally stop holding on? Tony Brueski examines what three other families can teach us. Peter Lanza walked away from Adam after Sandy Hook. The Roof family went silent after Charleston. Kerri Rawson had to grieve BTK as two separate losses. The question isn't whether Jake and Romy were right to step back. It's what it cost them to hold on this long. The death penalty remains on the table.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? You swore you'd parent differently—so why does your mother's voice slip out in hard moments? In this episode on how to stop reacting like your parents did, you'll learn how calming your nervous system breaks generational patterns. With decades of expertise in Regulation First Parenting™, Dr. Roseann Capanna-Hodge guides parents toward lasting emotional change. You had every intention of doing things differently—yet in heated moments, old patterns take over. If you're wondering how to stop reacting like your parents did, you're not alone. In this episode, we explore how to stop reacting like your parents did. It's not about willpower—it's about your nervous system. When you calm it, you can finally break generational cycles for good. Why Do I React Like My Parents Even When I Swore I Wouldn't?You didn't just observe your parents' behavior—you absorbed it. Your nervous system learned what control, safety, and love looked like in your own childhood. If yelling meant control, your body may react automatically with anger. If silence meant safety, you may shut down when your child is upset. These patterns live in the body—not just memory. When your child slams a door or talks back, it's not just about their behavior. It can trigger something from your past. Before your brain can choose a response, your emotional brain fires. That's why you hear those words come out of your mouth and think, “I hate that I sound like my mother.”This is the moment of awareness. And awareness is powerful.

I remember getting annoyed at my mom in 1998 because she didn't understand how to "right-click." I just assumed technology was intuitive. But it was intuitive to me because I grew up with it. It's not easy for everyone – a lesson I learned that day.Luckily, I took that lesson to heart and now I'm a much more patient teacher…much like today's guest. In this episode, I'm joined by tech confidence coach Avital Spivak to talk about the mental hangups that keep solopreneurs from mastering their systems. As a Christian single, do you suffer from insecurity in relationships? If you suffer insecurity in your Christian dating relationship (like I used to) you probably have inner voices spewing insecure thoughts like these about your date: “This is too good to be true, she’s bound to break up with me.” “When she finds out what I’m really like she’s gonna reject me like the others did.” “I just know my date is cheating on me.” Navigating the intricate web […] The post Insecurity in Relationships-Christian Dating appeared first on Christian Singles Advice | Christian Dating Advice Tips. In this episode of Your Employment Matters, Beverly Williams welcomes Dr. John Huber and his son Sean Huber for a candid conversation about career paths, parenting, risk taking, and what it really means to build a satisfying life. Dr. Huber shares his journey from West Orange, New Jersey to the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and eventually into private practice. He speaks openly about the persistence it took to gain admission to dental school, the value of mentorship, and how staying connected to scholarship sponsors and professional relationships helped shape his long-term success. His story reinforces a powerful truth: relationships are assets, and gratitude plus follow-through matter. Sean's path looks very different but carries the same underlying themes. After studying film at Drexel University, he left a job he loved to tour full time with his band Modern Baseball. What could have been a risky detour became a defining chapter. Touring the U.S., Europe, New Zealand, and beyond taught him resilience, adaptability, and problem solving. Today, he continues to perform while building a meaningful career in the craft beer industry. Now at Triple Bottom Brewing in Philadelphia, Sean works at a certified B Corp that operates on a “beer, people, planet” model. Beyond producing beer, the brewery runs a 16-week apprenticeship program for justice-affected and housing-insecure individuals, offering job training, reentry support, and employment placement. It is business with intention, not just profit. Throughout the conversation, several key themes emerge: Networking is not manipulation. It is intentional relationship building. Dr. Huber stayed in touch with scholarship sponsors and mentors, which opened doors and strengthened his professional foundation. Risk can be responsible. Sean's decision to leave a stable job for music was bold, but it was informed by passion and relationships. He never abandoned work ethic. Parents must balance protection and permission. Letting children travel, relocate, and pursue unconventional paths is difficult, but growth requires space. Satisfaction matters more than status. Both men emphasize enjoying their work. You can hear it in how they talk about it. Regret is usually about presence, not position. Dr. Huber wishes he had worked a little less and “smelled the roses” more. Sean wishes he had slowed down enough to absorb more culture and learning during his fast-paced touring years. The episode also touches on remote work and shifting workplace expectations post-COVID. Beverly reminds listeners that flexibility is possible, but profitability still drives business decisions. Employees must remain productive and adaptable. Employers must recognize that flexibility can strengthen performance and retention. What stands out most is the tone between father and son. There is respect, pride, and mutual recognition that hard work and character matter more than job titles. Different personalities. Different journeys. Same foundation. If you are navigating your own career crossroads, here are the takeaways: Build real relationships and maintain them. Choose paths that align with your values and energy. Accept that change is part of growth. Understand that success is rarely linear. Remember that satisfaction sustains performance. Careers evolve. Industries shift. Opportunities appear in unexpected places. The key is staying open, staying connected, and staying committed to doing good work wherever you land. Why do some students sit and do “nothing” when we give them plenty of time to work, and why does “just get to work” rarely change anything? In this episode of Aspire to Lead, Joshua Stamper talks with executive function coach Carrie Bonnett about task initiation as a teachable brain based skill rather than a character flaw. Drawing on her years as a middle and high school teacher and her current coaching practice with students, families, and schools, Carrie explains how to reframe “procrastination,” “laziness,” and “defiance” as executive function challenges that show up when tasks feel boring, overwhelming, or too big. Carrie shares practical strategies from her free Task Initiation Toolkit, including chunking work by task and by time, using timers as “dopamine tools,” and making the invisible visible with clear routines and visual cues so the environment does more of the prompting than the adult. She also offers concrete language shifts educators can use, such as moving from “You are lazy” to “Your brain struggles with getting started,” and shows how small changes in how we talk about brains, motivation, and “stuckness” can transform classroom culture, family dynamics, and student confidence. About Carrie Bonnett Carrie Bonnett is a veteran teacher, lifelong list-maker, and Executive Function coach based in Bend, Oregon. She works with students and families around the country using a practical, no-shame, brain-first approach that empowers students to thrive, helps parents and teachers better support them, and gives adults tools to stay on top of all that life requires. In addition to coaching, Carrie creates digital resources—including her signature course Get the Brain on Board and a series of No-Shame Guides for Parents—and provides brain-based workshops and trainings for parents, teachers, and other professionals. It was an ordinary sleepover in an ordinary suburban house. Parents out of town. A group of teenage boys staying up too late. No ghost stories. No dares. No reason to expect anything strange. At some point in the quiet of the night, someone casually said, “There's nothing here.” It wasn't a challenge. It wasn't dramatic. Just a dismissive comment about the house feeling a little too still.Hours later, several of them woke up at the same time. What they heard wasn't random noise. It wasn't pipes. It wasn't settling wood. It moved with intention. It followed a pattern. And it stopped exactly where they were lying awake in the dark.No one saw anything.
