Lauren welcomes 3 very special guests for this episode exploring leadership and building successful teams: Fran McCaffrey, the head coach of the University of Iowa men's basketball team; Dr. Matt Howard, Chief of Neurosurgery at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics; and Jon Darsee, Chief Innovation Officer at the University of Iowa and president of the Research Park Corporation. Key takeaways from the conversation include: Leadership can be both innate and learned through experience and mentorship. Effective leaders often display humility, empathy, and the ability to build trust within their teams. Humility is an important trait for leaders to cultivate, as it allows them to learn from mistakes and support their team members. Successful leaders often serve as role models by openly acknowledging their own shortcomings. In both sports and medicine, the ability to foster a strong team culture and recognize the value of all team members, including support staff, is crucial for building resilient and high-performing organizations. For students and young professionals, the advice is to prioritize finding the right mentors and teams over short-term financial incentives, as the opportunities for growth and learning will be more valuable in the long run. USGS Migration Route Data. Notice Interstate Locations and Migration Barriers. We hear all the time about urban sprawl affecting mule deer populations. I think the average hunter, (me included) usually only thinks about habitat destruction directly related to communities, homes, and businesses. We don't even consider the road system that link all of these communities together and the impact roadways have on wildlife, especially mule deer.  Of course when we do think about roads and wildlife, the first thing that comes to mind is wildlife-auto collisions, but it is much more complex than that. In fact those collisions we see are a drop in the bucket when we compare it to the loss of historic migration routes, and loss of access to habitat that comes with migration. Change has been everywhere you look nearly over the past half a century. It wasn't until 1956, that the Interstate Highway System was dreamed up under the Eisenhower administration. The speed limit on the highway during the 70's, 80's, and early 90's was 55 MPH, of course now, we would all lose our minds if we had to drive that slow. The big question- How has this complex system of multi-lane highways, changes in speed limits, and road noise affected the wildlife in the State of Utah, and around the west, particularly the mule deer herds? Here to address some of those questions, and many more is Matt Howard, the Utah Department of Transportations Natural Resource Manager. Matt is a biologist by definition, and a guy that studies "Road Ecology", which is a fairly new science. He explains what the State of Utah is doing to help reduce wildlife fatalities, improve migration corridors, and mitigate wildlife and automobile collisions. As health systems around the globe grapple with addressing inequity in healthcare, one of the most tangible opportunities for change is the chronic underrepresentation of individuals by race, ethnicity, or sex in clinical trials. Jen & Ryan are joined by Vynamic's Matt Howard to discuss how life science companies can integrate diversity, equity & inclusion throughout the clinical trials process to facilitate better outcomes. Better representation across patient types is critical to demonstrate safety and efficacy – it's both good science and good business (01:18). However, truly integrating DEI is going to require more than ‘bolting on' diverse patient recruitment practices – it will require an operational and mindset shift that necessitates an appreciation of the historic inequities within the clinical trial space (03:22). Opportunities to improve DEI abound throughout the clinical trial lifecycle – from reevaluating exclusion criteria (06:27) and protocol design (08:46), to reallocating resources across sites and focusing on tailored interactions with participant communities (15:00). Incorporating these tactics into a long-term strategy will require leaders to move away from a ‘speed first' approach (21:30) and embrace opportunities for partnership across all stages of the clinical trial continuum (24:15)For additional information on DEI in Clinical Trials, check out Vynamic's insight “Integrating Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Throughout Clinical Trials” and case study “Prioritizing Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Across Research & Development.”Podcast Tags: healthcare, health equity, diversity, DEI, clinical trials, life sciences, providers, FDASource Links:· https://vynamic.com/insights/integrating-diversity-equity-inclusion-throughout-clinical-trials/· https://www.fda.gov/regulatory-information/search-fda-guidance-documents/enhancing-diversity-clinical-trial-populations-eligibility-criteria-enrollment-practices-and-trial· https://www.abbott.com/diversity-in-clinical-trials.html· https://www.fpm.org.uk/blog/fpm-conversation-blog-enabling-a-greater-diversity-of-people-in-clinical-trials/· https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2016/06/why-are-health-studies-so-white/487046/· https://www.nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NEJMms2004740For additional discussion, please contact us at TrendingHealth.com or share a voicemail at 1-888-VYNAMIC.Matt Howard, DirectorMatthew.howard@vynamic.comRyan Hummel, Executive and Head of Provider Sectorryan.hummel@vynamic.comJen Burke, Director and Healthcare Industry Strategistjen.burke@vynamic.com

Incorporating these tactics into a long-term strategy will require leaders to move away from a ‘speed first' approach (21:30) and embrace opportunities for partnership across all stages of the clinical trial continuum (24:15) For additional information on DEI in Clinical Trials, check out Vynamic's insight “Integrating Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Throughout Clinical Trials” and case study “Prioritizing Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Across Research & Development.” Podcast Tags: healthcare, health equity, diversity, DEI, clinical trials, life sciences, providers, FDA Source Links: · https://vynamic.com/insights/integrating-diversity-equity-inclusion-throughout-clinical-trials/ · https://www.abbott.com/diversity-in-clinical-trials.html · https://www.fpm.org.uk/blog/fpm-conversation-blog-enabling-a-greater-diversity-of-people-in-clinical-trials/ · https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2016/06/why-are-health-studies-so-white/487046/ · https://www.nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NEJMms2004740 For additional discussion, please contact us at TrendingHealth.com or share a voicemail at 1-888-VYNAMIC. My guest today is the Principal Percussionist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, one of the most friendly musicians you could ever work with, my friend and colleague, Matt Howard. Sports, sports, and more sports…today's episode is a straight up masterclass on how being a professional musician is completely parallel to being a professional athlete.   Think your tenure process was tough? Make sure you listen all the way to the end for an unbelievable story about the types of hoops LA Phil musicians jump through to make our boss, Gustavo Dudamel happy. Worried that you got a “late start” in classical music? Wait until you hear the surprising success timeline for someone who later became one of the world's premiere orchestral players… He wasn't at all competitive Had never heard his hometown orchestra until he was a senior He mostly just played drums in a rock band Didn't practice Didn't take lessons And when he finally decided that we wanted to go to college for music, he only applied to one college, into which he did not get accepted. Sound like a roadmap to success? You might be surprised… Matt's going to share some amazing advice on how to prepare for an audition, how to effectively use a metronome, and we're even going to find out who he thinks is the greatest drummer of all time. You're even going to get a free percussion rudiments lesson from Matt, totally for free by listening to this podcast…you're welcome. Matt is from Los Angeles and he talks to us about his experience taking an audition for his hometown orchestra, and how he wasn't invited the first time (we've heard this before from several of our other guests). He lets us in on his routine for taking auditions, what it's like being on the other side of the screen listening to auditions, but also, he talks about breaking it down to the basics and being mentally prepared. What is the constant, and what is the variable?  The more he broke it down, the more he realized the variable was almost always mental. Everyone preparing for an audition, regardless of your instrument, needs to listen to what Matt has to say. Every now and again, you just have to have a dance party in your living room. That’s just some of the happiness advice Matt Howard shares in today’s episode of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories. For Matt, music is always essential. Currently working as the Principal Percussionist with the https://www.laphil.com/musicdb/artists/2491/matthew-howard (LA Philharmonic), Matt shares his story on how his path led him to his https://www.nws.edu/news/first-year-percussion-fellow-lands-dream-job-with-la-philharmonic/ (dream job) so quickly. Even during a pandemic when he can’t perform live, Matt still finds a way to bring music into his life – and the lives of others.   Matt still pinches himself when he is reminded that he is living his dream playing music for a living. Growing up, Matt recalls that there was always music playing around the house. From oldies to modern rock, he found himself drawn to the artists his parents would play. When they saw he caught the music bug, they helped him pursue his passion. Matt learned how to play the drums and other percussion instruments and attended a high school music program.    As a senior in high school, Matt didn’t think that he wanted to have music as his life-long profession. But when an accident left him temporarily unable to play - he knew he had to do something after graduation. Time attending community college, led Matt back to becoming obsessed with percussion.  “If you want to get good at something, you have to obsess over it,” says Matt.    Today, Matt lives out his days continuing to find happiness in music. But as the airways fill once again with stories of valiant fire-fighters and people who've lost their homes, we answer some burning questions that seem to always fly under the radar. For example: How long have fires been burning on this planet? Have our ecologies always been adapted to fire? What role did indigenous peoples play in lighting fires in the past? And how can we return prescribed burns to sensitive ecosystems? To answer these questions, Adam Huggins and Mendel Skulski talk to regional experts, including internationally renowned ethnobotanist Dr. Nancy Turner, in this first part of the series, On Fire. What is water stewardship and how does that translate into brand value for a corporation? A better understanding of all aspects of water stewardship will lead corporates to sustainably use water within their four walls, but also leverage what they do best in the marketplace to address shared water-related challenges outside their fence-line. Often times corporates overlook the social and governance aspects of true water stewardship because addressing those challenges and opportunities may seem outside the bounds of the traditional business value proposition. It is in that space of action, however, where brand value is enhanced and transformative change can occur to the health of a given watershed. As ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Reporting proliferates, there is an opportunity for true corporate water stewards to be rewarded for credible water stewardship actions. To unpack these complex issues, The Water Council’s Matt Howard welcomes water strategist Will Sarni to kick the tires on some wicked water problems and explore how ‘doing good’ makes for doing good business.

Welcome to another episode of 20/20 Money. My guest on today’s show is Matt Howard. Matt is a CPA and CVA, which is a Certified Valuations Analyst, with Blue and Co here in Indianapolis. I’ve known Matt for a number of years and have always appreciated and valued his opinion. Today’s conversation is a bit unorthodox as there really wasn’t a whole lot of planning behind the content. What started out as a simple question on the phone between two friends and colleagues turned into I feel a very timely episode: how should buyers and sellers of practices be thinking about valuations in the midst of COVID-19? In our conversation, we talk about what sellers should be focused on in their financials even more as practices look to come out and reopen. We talk about the timeline of transactions, the impact of a practice’s financials in 2020 on overall valuations, and how 2020 financials could be factored into transactions that are closed in 2021 and beyond. We wrap up the conversation by again emphasizing how important it is that optometrists have a plan for how they’re going to exit their practice and ensuring that they know what their personal financial plan “needs” from their practice in order to live their best life, on purpose. As a reminder, you can get all the information discussed in today’s conversation by visiting our website at integratedpwm.com and clicking on the Learning Center. While there, you can also set up a 20-30min Discovery conversation to learn a little bit more about what it means to work with our firm, how we serve ODs around the country, or check out any number of additional free resources like our eBooks and on-demand webinars. We were able to speak with Krystal Two Bulls and Matt Howard in Spring 2019 about their work, leadership and movement with About Face: Veterans Against the War.  Krystal is an Oglala Lakota and Northern Cheyenne woman who reminds us that what matters is what we fight for, not what we fight against. Krystal is a new member to About Face: Veterans Against the War, having joined in August 2018. She served in the US Army Reserves for 8 years and was deployed to Kuwait in 2009. Krystal is new to the anti-militarism conversation, but has significant knowledge and experience in environmental justice, Indigenous Sovereignty and social justice campaigns. She works to decolonize the approaches and methods that we utilize within movement spaces. Matt has worked with About Face: Veterans Against the War in various capacities since 2011 including as Chapter president in the Bay area, local organizer in Texas with the Operation Recovery campaign, as Communications Director and currently as Co-Director. He served in the Marine Corps as a helicopter mechanic from 2001 to 2006 and deployed twice to Iraq where he became deeply opposed to the occupations and discovered a commitment to social change work.

Kathy from the US has solved Ruth's question about Leeks and the Welsh by finding a quote from the Sacred Texts website. She also found the following quotes from Henry V (Shakespeare):- FLUELLEN Your majesty says very true: if your majesties is remembered of it, the Welshmen did good service in a garden where leeks did grow, wearVing leeks in their Monmouth caps; which, your majesty know, to this hour is an honourable badge of the service; and I do believe your majesty takes no scorn to wear the leek upon Saint Tavy's day. KING HENRY V I wear it for a memorable honour; For I am Welsh, you know, good countryman. FLUELLEN All the water in Wye cannot wash your majesty's Welsh plood out of your pody, I can tell you that: God pless it and preserve it, as long as it pleases his grace, and his majesty too! Thank you Kathy.   Promo - Mary Jones Amazing Celtic resource site with information about everything! OK, I'm a bit enthusiastic but she does do an amazing job. Hutchins invited the most prominent storytellers in podcast fiction — and 7th Son fans across the globe — to contribute to 7th Son: Obsidian, an innovative audio and video fiction anthology set in the 7th Son universe. Obsidian, an innovative “in world” addition to the 7th Son trilogy, tells the tale of the nationwide blackout seen briefly in 7th Son: Destruction. More than 100 authors and fans contributed content to this project. Obsidian was a history-making experience; it was the first time in podcast fiction where the lines between author and audience were fundamentally blurred in this way. While these tales of survival were crafted as stand-alone stories, J.C. Hutchins recommends listening to the 7th Son trilogy in its entirety before experiencing Obsidian.   Listener Feedback We talk some more about the use of accents within the shows again and ask for more feedback.   Sources used in this Episode Sacred Texts, Gods & Fighting Men by Lady Gregory Timeless Myths Lebor Gabala Sacred Texts, Celtic Wonder Tales, Ella Young Sacred Texts, Myths & Legends of the Celtic Race, Thomas Rolleston Celtic Twilight Celtic Literature Collective, Mary Jones And, of course, the Awen - inspiration and imagination!   Special Thanks For voice acting: Edward, our son, as Brian and King Dobar.
