Bustling with a busy lunchtime crowd, the New Orleans-inspired vibe and menu did not disappoint, and the beer was every bit as fantastic as promised. Our deeply satisfying initial experience had us hunting down the founder with the hope of recording a Creative Distillation episode there. Yet again, HopSaint delivered. We returned at lunchtime the next day to sit down with founder Steven Roberts and brewmaster Brian Brewer (yep, Brewer) to learn more about HopSaint's origins, and their clear vision for true community, built on craft beer. Quotes: “... a story a lot of successful artists have, and I'm not here to knock on art school, but you hear it a lot. You hear a lot of artists be like, it didn't help them. I guess a lot of people say that or it even pigeonholes you or puts you doing it in a way that you would have naturally not gone that direction, but the school is teaching you the right and wrong rules. And then you follow them which ends up kind of, you know, holding back your six walls around you. Yeah, you gotta be able to break through some of the rules are good.” - Greg Simkins “We love people that have those skills that we know we don't have and right when you see it, you're just like that it's admirable.” - Aaron Della Vedova “You raise your prices as you sell up.” - Greg Simkins “Keep drawing and keep painting.” - Greg Simkins Get in touch: Follow Greg on: Check out Craola's artwork online shop: https://shop.gregsimkinsart.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/craola/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/CRAOLA Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GregCraolaSimkins/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl7dwsfG_8_cYwJNBQKSsfw Website: https://gregsimkinsart.com/ Connect with Aaron: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chatsandtatts/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/AaronVedova Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aaron.dellavedova/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@chatsandtatts/featured

Apprenticeships are key. Shift mindset of the youth- open different pathways besides college education Don't wait until you lose a technician to hire a technician- being heavy on technicians leads to other opportunities (satellite location, more efficient). It's not a risk, it's an investment. No one complains they have too many techs. Don't be afraid to have conversations with other technicians- build trust, if it doesn't work out they will find another job within a day Fear prevents you to go into a new world of greatness- changing positions isn't comfortable but necessary to grow Emerging technology- the future is here, training for new EV vehicles, start a marketing campaign for new clientele and technicians. Educating customers that hybrids need repairs. Look into charging ports. This is your opportunity to gain lifetime clientele. Total lifetime spent- customer personal ARO. Motivation isn't the bill today but the whole driving career. This is a service industry, not a repair business. What is your mission of the business? Investing in their car invests, in their community. Let them know what you do behind the scenes (helping the community). Dr. Teresa Palos is a passionate teacher at El Camino College in Torrance CA. I had the privilege of experiencing her Biology and Microbiology classes back in 2006 and am very grateful that I had the opportunity to take her class at a community college. I truly believe the quality of the education I got from her teaching was just as good, if not, better than any 4 year University education. In this episode, she walks us through her science journey that lead her to her passion for teaching, which began with a diagnosis of Scarlet Fever 3 weeks before her High School Graduation. I also share what I remember about her style of teaching that fueled my passion for Biology, Microbiology, and bacteria. She truly is one of the BEST teachers I ever had and I invited her on the show to have the opportunity to express my gratitude. Thank you to all the teachers out there and people who work in the medical field for all the hard work you do, especially during the pandemic and thereafter! On the evening of February 8, 2005, two police officers responded to a 911 call that led them to a home in Torrance California. A large statured man seemingly came out of nowhere, startling the officers. As the man got closer to their patrol car, the officers could see that he was covered in blood. The shocking crime that occurred that February night left one person dead. · College mathematics professor for 20 years, receiving tenure 2 years ago at El Camino College in Torrance CA. · Born and raised in Los Angeles, currently living in Hermosa Beach. · Bachelors and Masters degree from Loyola Marymount University. · For almost 12 years, I was a “freeway flyer” teaching at 3-4 colleges a semester, just trying to make ends meet. I was FINALLY lucky enough be hired full time as a Professor at El Camino in 2013. · During that time, I was spending more time in my car than anywhere else. Just driving, teaching, eating, driving, teaching, eating…eating junk food on the run all day. I was probably 25-30 pounds heavier than I am now. · My sister asked if I would run a 5k with her in 2010. I trained my butt off and while my time was less than stellar (36 minutes. My current PR is 20:06!), I was hooked. I ran track in grade school and loved it, but nothing after that. The 5k in 2010 was what started this entire triathlon thing. · In 2012 I ran my first half-marathon (Orange County Marathon) in 2:36. It was slow but steady. I was so proud of myself and at the same time it was beyond my comprehension how someone could run TWICE that. It boggled my mind. · In 2014 I did a “reverse” tri in Los Alamitos (called ‘Race on the Base’). I literally had to borrow someone’s bike, swim cap and bathing suit. Even though it was a ‘super sprint’ race, I was absolutely in love with the sport. I felt that if I could really get into it, it would allow me to be active longer in life by biking and swimming instead of running all the time. Less pounding on the joints. · Since 2014, I’ve gone on to complete countless half-marathons, sprint and Olympic distance triathlon races, 2 Gran Fondo bike races, 7 half-Ironman races (PR of 5:26 at 70.3 Santa Cruz in 2018), 1 full Ironman (Ireland 2019 - now THAT is a hell of a story), Chicago Marathon (where I BQed with 3:39 finish) and named an Ironman All World Athlete in 2018 and 2019 (Top 5% in my Age Group). · I will be running the NYC Marathon in November for charity (Team Autism Speaks). It’s been such a humbling experience raising the money for this great cause. Running the race for a cause bigger than myself is going to truly be something special. · Non-athletic fun fact: In college I was the drummer in an all-girl pop/punk band who was produced by one of the members of the 80’s band The Go-Go’s. · 2019 sponsors/team member: o Wattie Ink Hit Squad Team o SBR Product Ambassador o NUUN Ambassador o BOCO Gear MVP Team · Local club affiliations: o LA Tri Club o South Bay Running Club o Tower 26

Mike Saffaie is an elite + highly revered Strength & Conditioning coach to high performing athletes with some names under his resume such as UFC fighters Cara Esparza, Anderson Silva, Ferbricio Werdum, + Brain ”T-City” Ortega to name a few. In addition to training pro atheltes, he’s been an award winning private trainer for over two decades now. His unique approach to training stems from the mental landscape of an engineer. He designs all of his training methods from a methodical and intelligent strategies that advance body mechanics, strength and speed- all of which have been proven to be effective. Fitness in many facets has been a life long passion of Mike Saffaie. It’s in his DNA and when you look at the physique of this life time athlete who is an ALL natural, IFBB PRO + PNBA competitor, it’s hard to disagree. Like his training skills, his abs have legitimately won their own awards too. No joke. He’s been training Brasilian JiuJitsu for over 13 years and officially received his Black Belt under Ryron + Rener Gracie out of Gracie University in Torrance California. Above all of those amazing accomplishments and high honors, what I am MOST proud of is that fact that I get to call Mike Saffaie MY brother. Most know my brother for his passion for fitness + movement, his physical talents, competitive wins and his career status but the deeper you get to know Mike, you quickly learn he equally loves using his mind through philosophy, intellectual arguments/debates, critical thinking and logical reasoning. He completely CRUSHES the usual perception of the “gym guy with muscles” who would prefer to listen to an intellectual argument on Free Will vs watch Sunday night football. Aside from his love for body + mind, Mike is known as one of the realist + kindest guys around. As his sister, one year apart in age (he’s my baby brother hehe) I can honestly say, he’s one of the most curious humans I’ve ever met, what you see is what you get with my brother: i.e. he’s as real as it gets and he has the biggest heart that is fiercely loyal that which he loves. In this very special episode you will learn: His competition mindset What drives him to compete The challenges in learning how to “get better and better” Seeking challenges to discover more of himself and his capabilities to beat them How he utilizes aggression for progress and why he believes leaning into it can support wins Why he feels resiliency is essential to survival and how he tests his own levels of resiliency Why he prefers short term goals over resolutions His self-talk when training an being challenged How his early childhood exposed his mind to it’s reaction ability His views on” Life moving towards us” vs “Life happening for us” Being hyper vigilant, growing up with ADHAD and dealing with anxiety How his specific style of Jiu-Jitsu led him to create his patented grip strengthening device, The Grapple Grip™ What makes fighters and MMA unique to other athletes and his approach to training them How he creates future videos taking to himself and why The power of motivating yourself by speaking out loud as a performance tool The bravest thing he’s done in his life to date Why he does not carry negative emotional weight from his childhood adversities The one constant in his life that gives him confidence HIs “ALL IN” mentality + approach to his work What’s inspiring him currently and projects he currently working on What he loves especially about training women + how his upbringing influenced his relationship to empowered women This episode will definitely pull you into deep thought and get your inner champion fired up at the same time. “Good health is more than a state of not being ill. It is a radiant state of inner wellbeing. Physical illnesses may be cured by medicines. No medicine however can induce that state of boundless energy which comes when every cell in the body cooperates with the mind willingly, joyfully in all that it seeks to do. Such radiant wellbeing comes after the mind has been cleared of every shadow of unwillingness, of fear and of doubt when one has learned to say “yes” to life and when one has learned to love.” – Affirmations for Self-Healing by Swami Kriyananda Recorded at Meditation Unlimited, Torrance CA during Monday Free Guided Meditation for Beginners.
