"Tunes of the Season: Phish, Grateful Dead, and Merry Jams"Larry Mishkin discusses Christmas-themed songs performed by various artists, including The Who and Grateful Dead. Larry delves into The Who's rock opera "Tommy," particularly focusing on the song "Christmas" and its critical reception. He transitions to discussing Grateful Dead's rendition of Chuck Berry's "Run, Rudolph, Run" performed at the Felt Forum in 1971 and analyzes its significance in the band's repertoire.Larry further explores the potential residency of bands like Dead & Company at the Sphere in Las Vegas, following U2's shows there. He touches on Phish's upcoming performances at the same venue and discusses the difficulty in acquiring tickets for these highly anticipated shows.Later, Larry reminisces about New Year's Eve shows by various bands, specifically mentioning Grateful Dead's memorable performances during the countdown. He also features unconventional Christmas renditions by Phish and Jerry Garcia with David Grisman..Produced by PodConx Theme – Rock n Roll ChristmasIf you were in the Mishkin household earlier this morning, you might have heard this blasting out of the speakers:INTRO: ChristmasThe WhoFebruary 14, 1970University of Leeds, Leeds, England aka “Live At Leeds”The Who - Christmas - Live At Leeds (with Footage) (youtube.com)2:00 – 3:17 "Christmas" is a song written by Pete Townshend and is the seventh song on The Who's rock opera Tommy. On the original LP, it opens the second side of the album. Tommy is the fourth studio album by the English rock band the Who, first released on 19 May 1969.[2] Primarily written by guitarist Pete Townshend, Tommy is a double album and an early rock opera that tells the story of Tommy Walker and his experiences through life. The song tells how on Christmas morning, Tommy's father is worried about Tommy's future, and soul. His future is jeopardized due to being deaf, dumb, and blind.[2] The lyrics contrast religious themes such as Christmas and Jesus Christ with Tommy's ignorance of such matters. The rhetorical question, "How can he be saved from the eternal grave?" is asked about Tommy's condition and adds speculation as to the nature of original sin and eternal salvation. In the middle of the song, "Tommy can you hear me?" is repeated, with Tommy responding, "See me, feel me, touch me, heal me." "Christmas" was praised by critics. Richie Unterberger of AllMusic called it an "excellent song."[5]Rolling Stone's Mac Randall said it was one of several "prime Pete Townshend songs" on the album.[6] A review in Life by Albert Goldman considered it beautiful and highlighted the song's "croaking chorus".[7] James Perone said it was "perhaps one of the best sleeper tracks of the collection." Townshend came up with the concept of Tommy after being introduced to the work of Meher Baba, and he attempted to translate Baba's teachings into music. Recording on the album began in September 1968, but took six months to complete as material needed to be arranged and re-recorded in the studio. Tommy was acclaimed upon its release by critics, who hailed it as the Who's breakthrough. Its critical standing diminished slightly in later years; nonetheless, several writers view it as an important and influential album in the history of rock music. The Who promoted the album's release with an extensive tour, including a live version of Tommy, which lasted throughout 1969 and 1970. Key gigs from the tour included appearances at Woodstock, the 1969 Isle of Wight Festival, the University of Leeds, the Metropolitan Opera House, and the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. The live performances of Tommy drew critical praise and revitalised the band's career. Live at Leeds is the first live album by English rock band the Who. It was recorded at the University of Leeds Refectory on 14 February 1970, and is their only live album that was released while the group were still actively recording and performing with their best-known line-up of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon. The album was released on 11 May 1970 by Decca and MCA in the United States,[2] and by Track and Polydor in the United Kingdom. It has been reissued on several occasions and in several different formats. Since its release, Live at Leeds has been ranked by several music critics as the best live rock recording of all time SHOW No. 1: Run Rudolph RunGrateful DeadFelt Forum at MSG, NYCDecember 7, 1971Track No. 10Grateful Dead Live at Felt Forum, Madison Square Garden on 1971-12-07 : Free Borrow & Streaming : Internet Archive0:11 – 1:54 Run Rudolph Run"[2][3][4] is a Christmas song written by Chuck Berry but credited to Johnny Marks and M. Brodie due to Marks' trademark on the character of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.[5][note 1] It was published by St. Nicholas Music (ASCAP) and was first recorded by Berry in 1958, released as a single on Chess Records. It has since been covered by numerous other artists, sometimes with the title "Run Run Rudolph".[16] The song is a 12-bar blues, musically similar to Berry's popular and recognizable song "Johnny B. Goode", and melodically similar to his song "Little Queenie", the latter of which was released shortly after, in 1959.During its initial chart run, Berry's 1958 recording peaked at number 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in December 1958.[22] Sixty years later, the single re-entered the Hot 100 chart at number 45 (on the week ending January 5, 2019), reaching an overall peak position of number 10 on the week ending January 2, 2021, following its third chart re-entry, becoming Berry's third top-ten hit and his first since 1972's "My Ding-a-Ling". In doing so, it broke the record for the longest climb to the top 10 since its first entry in December 1958, at 62 years and two weeks. This Ciip:Out of Brokedown Palace and into You Win AgainPlayed a total of 7 times. This was the first timeLast: December 15, 1971 Hill Auditorium, Ann Arbor, MI SHOW No. 2: Little Drummer BoyPhishJuly 3, 1999Coca Cola Lakewood Amphitheatre, Atlanta, GAPhish - The Little Drummer Boy - 7/3/1999 - Atlanta, GA (youtube.com)Start to 1:30 Out of Contact to close the second set. "The Little Drummer Boy" (originally known as "Carol of the Drum") is a Czechoslovakian popular Christmas song written by American composer Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941.[1] First recorded in 1951 by the Austrian Trapp Family, the song was further popularized by a 1958 recording by the Harry Simeone Chorale; the Simeone version was re-released successfully for several years, and the song has been recorded many times since.[2] In the lyrics, the singer relates how, as a poor young boy, he was summoned by the Magi to the Nativity of Jesus. Without a gift for the Infant, the little drummer boy played his drum with approval from Jesus' mother, Mary, recalling, "I played my best for him" and "He smiled at me". Phish has only performed the song three times during the month of December – the debut performance segueing out of “Mike's Song” and into “Whipping Post,” a tease during the 12/28/94 “Weekapaug Groove,” and jammed out of the “YEM” vocal jam (12/2/99) (which melted down until Jon was left singing it to close the set). But the song was jammed out of season during “My Friend, My Friend” (3/18/93) and “Stash” (7/15/93), and teased during “Weekapaug Groove” and “Big Ball Jam” (4/9/94), “Wilson” (8/13/97), “Silent in the Morning” (7/4/99), and "Wilson" (4/16/04). This version is generally considered to be Fishman's most memorable version. It is in the Roxburghe Collection (iii. 452), and is listed as no. 394 in the Roud Folk Song Index. It is also known as "Tidings of Comfort and Joy", and by other variant incipits. An early version of this carol is found in an anonymous manuscript, dating from the 1650s it appeared in a parody published in 1820 by William Hone. Story here is the way Jerry and David play so tight, trading off leads and filling in gaps. A great sound for a traditional tune. There are many sides of Jerry and we don't get to see all of them. Nice to take a break from the traditional Dead stuff and take a look in at what else Garcia was doing during that creative period of his life. SHOW No. 4: Stagger LeeGrateful DeadDecember 30, 1985Track No. 6Grateful Dead Live at Oakland Coliseum on 1985-12-30 : Free Borrow & Streaming : Internet ArchiveStart – 1:32 As is made clear by the opening lyrics, this is a tale about events that unfolded and played out on Christmas: “1940 Xmas Eve with a full moon over town”. On some occasions, Jerry was known to substitute in “Christmas” Eve. "Stagger Lee", also known as "Stagolee" and other variants, is a popular American folk song about the murder of Billy Lyons by "Stag" Lee Shelton, in St. Louis, Missouri, at Christmas 1895. The song was first published in 1911 and first recorded in 1923, by Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians, titled "Stack O' Lee Blues". A version by Lloyd Price reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1959. The historical Stagger Lee was Lee Shelton, an African-American pimp living in St. Louis, Missouri, in the late 19th century. He was nicknamed Stag Lee or Stack Lee, with a variety of explanations being given: he was given the nickname because he "went stag" (went to social events unaccompanied by a person of the opposite sex); he took the nickname from a well-known riverboat captain called Stack Lee; or, according to John and Alan Lomax, he took the name from a riverboat owned by the Lee family of Memphis called the Stack Lee, which was known for its on-board prostitution.[2] Shelton was well known locally as one of the Macks, a group of pimps who demanded attention through their flashy clothing and appearance.[3] In addition to those activities, he was the captain of a black Four Hundred Club, a social club with a dubious reputation. On Christmas night in 1895, Shelton and his acquaintance William "Billy" Lyons were drinking in the Bill Curtis Saloon. Lyons was also a member of St. Louis' underworld, and may have been a political and business rival to Shelton. Eventually, the two men got into a dispute, during which Lyons took Shelton's Stetson hat.[5]Subsequently, Shelton shot Lyons, recovered his hat, and left.[6] Lyons died of his injuries, and Shelton was charged, tried, and convicted of the murder in 1897. He was paroled in 1909, but returned to prison in 1911 for assault and robbery. He died in incarceration in 1912. The Grateful Dead frequently played and eventually recorded a version of the tale which focuses on the fictionalized hours after the death of "Billy DeLyon", when Billy's wife Delia tracks down Stagger Lee in a local saloon and "she shot him in the balls" in revenge for Billy's death. Based on the traditional song "Stagger Lee", "Stagolee" or "Stack O'Lee." Robert Hunter wrote a version that he performed solo, and Jerry Garcia subsequently re-ordered the lyrics and rewrote the music for the Grateful Dead's version. More recently Bob Weir has also been performing some of the older traditional versions with Ratdog. Dead released it on Shakedown Street, Nov. 8, 1978 Played 146 times by the Dead1st: August 30, 1978Last: June 18, 1995 Giants Stadium OUTRO: Santa Clause Is Coming To TownBruce Springsteen and the E Street BandCW Post University, Greenvale, NYDecember, 19756Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town (Live at C.W. Post College, Greenvale, NY - December 1975) - Bing video2:15 - 4:00 Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" is a Christmas song featuring Santa Claus, written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie and first recorded by Harry Reser and His Band.[1] When it was covered by Eddie Cantor on his radio show in November 1934 it became a hit; within 24 hours, 500,000 copies of sheet music and more than 30,000 records were sold.[2][3] The version for Bluebird Records by George Hall and His Orchestra (vocal by Sonny Schuyler) was very popular in 1934 and reached the various charts of the day.[4] The song has been recorded by over 200 artists including Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters, the Crystals, Neil Diamond, Fred Astaire, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Bill Evans, Chris Isaak, the Temptations, The Pointer Sisters, the Carpenters, Michael Bublé, Luis Miguel, and the Jackson 5 A rock version by Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band was recorded on December 12, 1975, at C. W. Post College in Brookville, New York, by Record Plant engineers Jimmy Iovine and Thom Panunzio.[14][15] This version borrows the chorus refrain from the 1963 recording by the Crystals.[16] It was first released as a track on the 1981 Sesame Street compilation album, In Harmony 2, as well as on a 1981 promotional, radio-only, 7-inch single (Columbia AE7 1332).[17][18] Four years later, it was released as the B-side to "My Hometown," a single off the Born in the U.S.A. album.[19] Springsteen's rendition of the song has received radio airplay perennially at Christmastime for years; it appeared on Billboard magazine's Hot Singles Recurrents chart each year from 2002 to 2009 due to seasonal air play. Live performances of the song often saw the band encouraging the audience to sing some of the lyrics with—or in place of—the band's vocalists (usually the line "you'd better be good for goodness sake", and occasionally the key line "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" as well). Sometimes, concert crowds would sing along with the entire song, and the band, who were known to encourage this behavior for the song, would do nothing to dissuade those audiences from doing so, instead welcoming the crowds' enthusiasm. This version remains a Springsteen concert favorite during the months of November and December (often concluding the show), and the band is among the few that keep it in their roster of songs during the holidays. Where's the best seat in the venue? Is it in the upper deck so you can see the full stage show? What about straight back by the soundboard so you can hear the best? Or is it the front row so you can be as close to the action as possible? The front row is an elusive spot. It takes big bucks or intense dedication to earn. No one just "walks up" to the front row. There has to be intentionality. For the Allman Brothers Band, I gave it everything I had, even arriving at the venue before security, and it paid off. Hear what it takes to secure a spot on the rail and see the performance of a lifetime. For more: yesterdaysconcert.com

“To be free is to be white, and to be white is to be free. In this reading, therefore, freedom and race are not just enemies but also allies”. That's my guest today, the historian Tyler Stovall on the idea that animates his new book White Freedom: The Racial History of an Idea. It was an idea, Tyler says, that “kept him awake at night”. We talk about whether the most important racial line is between white and others, or between Black and others; the startling true history of the Statue of Liberty (“the world's most prominent example of the racialization of modern ideas of freedom”, Tyler says); the controversy surrounding the 1619 Project and specifically the extent to which retaining slavery motivated some of the colonies in the War; the fight over school integration; the use of reason and rationality as gatekeepers to enlightenment ideas of liberalism; the decolonization movement; and the fights over both voting rights and Critical Race Theory; and much more besides. It's a topical conversation but also one that reaches across history. I found this a stimulating and challenging conversation. Tyler Stovall Dr. Tyler Stovall is a lauded historian of modern and twentieth-century France, with a specialization in transnational history, labor, colonialism, and race. His work has covered topics ranging from the suburbs of Paris to Black American expatriates in France and the French Caribbean. He has written numerous books, including the widely-popular “Paris Noir: African Americans in the City of Light.” This summer, Stovall was appointed as the Dean of Fordham's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Previously, he was the Dean of Humanities at UC-Santa Cruz and served as the President of the American Historical Association from 2017 to 2018. Stovall currently lives in Berkeley, California with his wife Dr. Denise Herd. More Stovall In this episode, we discussed Stovall's new and thought-provoking book “White Freedom: The Racial History of an Idea” He recently wrote an article in The Nation titled “Liberty's Discontents” While serving as President of American Historical Association, Stovall gave an address on “White Freedom and the Lady of Liberty”. You can watch it here. Also mentioned Stovall mentioned the book “Men on Horseback”, written by David Bell We discussed the iconography of the broken chain on the Statue of Liberty The hat that was given to former slaves in Ancient Rome is known as a ‘Pileus' Stovall referred to the famous painting by Delacroix, “Liberty Leading the People” We discussed the New York Times 1619 project which you can learn more about here. Stovall mentioned Crispus Attucks, an African American man killed during the Boston Massacre and believed to be the first casualty of the American Revolution. Here's a clip of The Allman Brothers Band performing their song ‘Whipping Post' We discussed Phyllis Schlafly and her role in opposing the Equal Rights Amendment In On Liberty, J.S. Mill wrote that “Despotism is a legitimate mode of government in dealing with barbarians, provided the end be their improvement, and the means justified by actually effecting that end.” (p. 19) After WWI ended, Black American soldiers returned home to a violently racist society and were threatened with increasing riots, lynchings, and additional brutality. Stovall mentioned Julius Nyerere, the former President of Tanzania. A man in Texas, after waiting in line for hours, now faces a 40-year sentence for voting while on parole. I referenced Amartya Sen on the concept of meritocracy and its central conflict of who gets to define merit. Read more of his work on this topic here. In his book, “Excellence: Can We Be Equal and Excellent Too?”, John W. Esta semana, dedicamos un nuevo capítulo de Rebelión Sónica, íntegramente al disco “Zappa '88: The Last U.S. Show” del fundamental guitarrista y compositor estadounidense, Frank Zappa. “Zappa ’88: The Last U.S.

None of our hosts like horror, but KJ’s out to convince Faith and Moira that Supernatural is worth the occasional scare with a Winchester-brother centric episode. Faith has a clear preference for one of the Winchesters and thinks 2006 website design was a nightmare, KJ fumbles her way through pointing out a Shakespeare reference in a way that would’ve gotten an F in english class, and Moira praises the ability of Supernatural to accurately depict sibling relationships.Jensen singing Simple Man and Brother: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwzYOFzD9sQJensen singing Brother and Whipping Post: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSXALlAUEQQBehind the scenes Jensen lip synching Eye of the Tiger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvfVEm6qkG0

The Allman Brothers Band recorded their third album live in March 1971 over two days. At Fillmore East would become their breakthrough album, filled with enough blues-rock jams to make it a double, despite the fact that there were only seven songs in total. Brothers Duane and Gregg Allman realized that their strength was rooted in their live shows, and determined that the best showcase for them would be a live album. The band features Gregg Allman on vocals, piano, and organ, Duane Allman and Dickey Betts on guitars, Berry Oakley on bass guitar, and Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny Johanson on percussion. The band was unusual in having both two lead guitar players and two percussion players. At Fillmore East went gold about 3 months after its release. Unfortunately, Duane Allman died in a motorcycle accident in Macon at the height of the album's popularity in October 1971. Only 13 months later bassist Barry Oakley also died in a motorcycle accident only 3 blocks away from the place where Duane had died. Friend of the show Andy Burt features this classic album. Statesboro BluesThis track opens the album, and was written in 1928 by Blind Willie McTell. The blues group Taj Mahal recorded a version of the song in 1968, and this inspired Duane Allman to perform the song and to play it on the slide guitar. The slide Allman used was a glass vial originally containing cold medicine!Hot'lantaThis instrumental song is a deeper cut that gets its name from a nickname for Atlanta. Gregg and Duane Allman got their start in Hourglass (which we previously featured), but were not well suited to work in a pop group. Hot'lanta was never recorded in a studio, but was only recorded live.In Memory of Elizabeth ReedAnother instrumental, this song was a jam based off a track from their second studio album. You get a sense of their jazz influences here, both from Miles Davis and John Coletrane. The song was written for a girl with whom Dickie Betts had an affair. Not wanting to name her, Betts took the name from a tombstone in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.Whipping PostPerhaps the most famous track on the album, Whipping Post takes up an entire album side. Jerry Oakley wrote the riff, and Gregg Allman wrote the lyrics. The idea is of a man betrayed by a woman who feels completely helpless. The complex meter is unusual for a blues rock band, and shows the versatility and fusion characteristics of the band. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:The theme from the motion picture “Shaft” by Isaac HayesWho is the man that would risk his neck for his brother, man? (Shaft) Can ya dig it? STAFF PICKS:“Hot Pants” by James BrownBrian keeps the music Georgia-based with his staff pick from the Godfather of Soul. The official name of this song is "Hot Pants (She Got to Use What She Got to Get What She Wants)," and this is part 1 of a 3-part funk song. Parts 2 and 3 appeared on the B-side of the single for part 1. “Love the One You're With” by The Isley BrothersRob brings us a soulful cover of the Stephen Stills song you've likely heard before. The Isley Brothers would take this version to number 3 on the R&B charts, and it was their 5th top 40 single. The Isley Brothers got their start in the 50's, and brought a fusion approach to gospel harmonies.“Smiling Faces Sometimes” by The Undisputed TruthWayne's staff pick continues the soulful tact with this psychedelic soul production. The Undisputed Truth was known for their unusual costumes and makeup, predating the glam-rock trend. Beware of the handshake that hides the snake. Can you dig it?“Riders on the Storm” by The DoorsAndy finishes off the staff picks with this song inspired by “Ghost Riders in the Sky.” The dark lyrics were inspired by serial killer Billy Cook, who killed six people while hitchhiking in California. This single was released just before Jim Morrison died in Paris. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:“K-Jee” by The Nite-LitersThis instrumental hit was on the charts at the time, and would make a re-appearance on the disco motion picture “Saturday Night Fever.”
Praise be to Moloch, we actually liked everything we heard this week! In fact, a few things are some of the best tunes we've heard in 2020 thus far. Looks like the human sacrifices are paying off. This week, we're diverging from Baker's Dozen listening and analysis to look back at a summer show from 1996. We play the first set of 8.10.96, which was Phish's first show at the storied Alpine Valley, as well as a couple tracks from set 2. The details of the set are below. During this episode, we mentioned that we covered 8.6.96 in episode 8. If you want to go back and check that out, you can find it here. We had a blast doing the Baker's Dozen Quick Hits as well as the live event in New York. We'll be back with Quick Hits this weekend from the Dick's shows, and we hope that we can do another live event over the holidays if they do indeed pull the trigger on a New Year's MSG run. If you can, review us on iTunes, and support HF Pod Plus. Thank you. -- Phish, 8.10.96, Alpine Valley Music Theater, East Troy, WI Set 1: My Friend, My Friend, Poor Heart > AC/DC Bag > Fee > Reba, I Didn't Know, The Horse > Silent in the Morning, Rift > Bathtub Gin, Cavern Intro Music: Phish, Whipping Post, 8.10.96 Outro Music: Harry Hood > A Day In The Life, 8.10.96 Photo from Golgi Project See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

"Whipping Post" is the title of The 'Nam #56 and part three of "The Death of Joe Hallen." Here we see Joe and his new unit take on a very secret, possibly sketchy mission into enemy territory that involves a connection to the Chinese and the CIA. It's brought to you by Chuck Dixon, Wayne Vansant, and Tony DeZuniga. Also in this episode is the return of the history portion of the show, as I cover November 1969.

Good luck next week!! Black-Eyed News: If you listen to this show a lot you know I am a huge fan of the Allman Bros and the Allman Bros were all over the news this week. Rock and Roll Hall of Famers joined current and former members of the Allman Brothers Band for a 26-song salute to Gregg Allman Friday night in Atlanta. Sam Moore, Dr. John and Jackson Browne took turns interpreting Allman’s extensive catalog along with Vince Gill, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, John Hiatt, Zac Brown, Widespread Panic and others during "All My Friends: Celebrating the Songs & Voice of Gregg Allman," which was recorded to air on AXS TV in May. For the sold-out crowd at the historic 4,600-seat Fox Theatre, this rainy night in Georgia proved to be a dream jam. On February 18th Epic/Legacy Recordings will release Play All Night: Live at The Beacon Theatre 1992, a two disc set highlighting this historic run of shows. Kicking off on March 10th, these Beacon shows blended recent fan favorites like “Get On With Your Life,” “End Of The Line,” and “Nobody Knows” with such stone cold classics as “Statesboro Blues,” “Blue Sky,” “Jessica,” “Revival,” and of course, “Whipping Post,” all played with the distinctive invention and muscularity that defined this particular ABB line-up. Play All Night sees the Brothers unplug for a three-song acoustic interlude encompassing bare-boned renditions of Betts’ “Seven Turns” and Allman’s “Midnight Rider,” as well as a buoyant take on the Robert Johnson standard, “Come On In My Kitchen.” Also available on February 18th is Live At Great Woods, a feature-length concert DVD filmed at Massachusetts’ Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts in September of 1991. http://www.allmanbrothersband.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=userpage&file=content&page_id=65 William Hurt has been cast as the present-day version of Gregg Allman in the upcoming biopic Midnight Rider, Variety reports. The actor, who won an Oscar for his role in 1985's Kiss of the Spider Woman, is joining a cast that already includes All American Rejects singer Tyson Ritter, who plays Allman as a young man, and Wyatt Russell as his brother Duane Allman. Shortly afterwards, it was confirmed that Warren Haynes would also be departing. Both musicians have highly successful touring bands independent of the Brothers, with Trucks winning a Grammy in 2012. Trucks and Haynes were both influential lead guitarists with The Allman Brothers. Trucks, a former child prodigy and now the driving guitarist behind the Grammy-winning Tedeschi Trucks Band, has been with the Brothers for 15 years, since he was twenty. Haynes, the roaring guitar genius behind Gov’t Mule, has been with the band since 1989. The move comes shortly after (incorrect) news from a Rolling Stone Magazine article, from a statement by Gregg Allman, that longtime bassist Oteil Burbridge would be leaving the band. Burbridge and Butch Trucks adamantly denied the rumors, which appear to have simply been a matter of miscommunication. http://www.americanbluesscene.com/2014/01/influential-guitarists-leaving-allman-brothers-band-in-2015/ Last piece of news this week: From Brian MacDonald-Grammy-winning International superstar singer Jack Jones-fresh off his appearance in "American Hustle"-is recording a new CD (produced by Grammy/Oscar legend Rick Jarrard), and has picked one of Brian’s songs as the first single... recording started yesterday, and it should be out before the Oscars.
