Road Hill House was no longer home. It was a crime scene that everyone recognised and no one could forget. The servants whispered in corners. New staff refused positions. And somewhere across England, a teenage girl carried a secret that would rattle the nation.Three-year-old Francis Saville Kent had been dead for five years, but his presence haunted everyone connected to Road Hill House. His wicker cot had been moved to the attic. His toys—the wooden rocking horse, the tin soldiers, the stuffed rabbit he couldn't sleep without—were packed away in trunks. The family attempted to erase all physical evidence of the child who had been murdered in his own home, but some things cannot be buried. This episode examines the devastating aftermath of the Road Hill House murder, tracing five years of silence, scandal, and psychological torment that led to one of the most unexpected confessions in criminal history.By early 1861, Samuel Kent had made an impossible decision: the family would abandon Road Hill House forever. The whispers, the stares, the neighbours who crossed the street to avoid them—it had become unbearable. Constance Kent, the sixteen-year-old half-sister whom Detective Inspector Whicher had accused of murder, was sent far from England. First to a French convent across the Channel, far from English newspapers. Then, in 1863, to St. Mary's Home for Religious Ladies in Brighton—a place of strict Anglo-Catholic ritual that would transform her utterly. Meanwhile, her brother William built a successful career as a marine scientist, seemingly untouched by scandal. But questions lingered. Had he been involved that June night? Was Constance protecting someone? At St. Mary's, Constance encountered Father Arthur Wagner—a charismatic Anglican priest whose theology emphasized confession and penance. Wagner's version of Christianity demanded that sins be spoken aloud, that guilt find voice, that secrets be exposed before God. For nearly two years, Constance resisted. Then, in early 1865, something broke. She requested a private meeting with Father Wagner. What she told him changed everything. On the morning of April 25, 1865, Father Wagner and Constance Kent boarded a train for London. At Bow Street police station, she dictated a written confession to the murder of Francis Saville Kent. She provided details that matched evidence Inspector Whicher had gathered five years earlier—details only the killer could have known. Headlines screamed across England: ROAD HILL HOUSE MURDERESS CONFESSES.The Road Hill House case became a watershed moment in British criminal justice and religious history. Constance Kent's confession raised profound questions about the intersection of faith and law. Had Father Wagner provided genuine spiritual guidance, or had he manipulated a vulnerable young woman? The Anglo-Catholic confession practices at St. Mary's drew intense scrutiny. Victorian society, which had destroyed Inspector Whicher's career for daring to accuse a "young lady of breeding," now had to confront its own prejudices. The detective had been right all along—class bias had protected a murderer for five years. Constance's case also highlighted emerging Victorian understanding of psychological trauma. Her childhood losses—mother's death, father's remarriage to the governess, blatant favouritism toward the second family—would today be recognized as severe emotional abuse. What remains unexplained is why Constance confessed after five years of freedom. The investigation was closed. The world had moved on. She could have stayed silent forever. Some historians argue the confession was genuine religious transformation—Wagner's theology finally breaking through her defences. Others suggest coercion—a priest manipulating a vulnerable woman consumed by guilt. A third theory persists: that Constance was protecting her brother William, who may have been involved that night in June 1860. Her confession mentioned resentment but offered no specific. Listeners fascinated by Victorian detective work should explore Episode 2 of this series, which details Inspector Whicher's revolutionary investigation methods. For more cases involving religious confession and criminal justice, Foul Play's archives include coverage of other nineteenth-century crimes where faith and law intersected in unexpected ways.Next episode: The trial lasted thirty minutes. The death sentence wasn't carried out. And England's most notorious murderess would live to be one hundred years old under a completely different name. Episode 4 reveals the extraordinary aftermath of Constance Kent's confession. Our Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: https://www.betterhelp.comSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/foul-play-crime-series/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Agile in Construction: Over-Commitment and Silence—The Deadly Duo Destroying Your Teams With Felipe Engineer-Manriquez Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. "I don't think people are bad. They don't self-destruct because they're bad. What I do see is people getting crushed in terribly bad systems." - Felipe Engineer-Manriquez Felipe shares a powerful insight about team dysfunction: teams don't self-destruct because of bad people—they get crushed by broken systems. On a hospital construction project, he witnessed a dangerous pattern: over-commitment coupled with silence. People would commit to pouring concrete on Thursday when there wasn't even rebar in place—a physical impossibility. But psychological safety was so low that no one could say the emperor had no clothes. Felipe's approach? Ask obvious questions that break the pattern. "Don't you need this so you can do that?" This simple question, framed with verb-noun phrases, surfaces what cannot be spoken. He positions himself as "just a simple, dumb general contractor" who doesn't understand—creating safety for others to speak truth. The turning point comes when you slow down, make work visible, and allow people to say no. As Felipe puts it: "For real accountability, if people are not allowed to say no, then they actually can't make a real promise." Silence is not alignment, and saying yes in low-trust environments is actually hiding from accountability. In this segment, we talk about psychological safety and systems thinking in team dynamics. Self-reflection Question: When you see a team over-committing to impossible deadlines, what question could you ask that surfaces the truth without putting individuals at risk? Featured Book of the Week: The Goal by Eliyahu Goldratt Felipe chose The Goal by Eliyahu Goldratt as the most transformative book of his early lean career. He describes it as "the number one game changer"—a fictional story that teaches the Theory of Constraints in a way you can internalize. The famous "Herbie story" within the book illustrates how helping the slowest part of a process speeds up the entire system. Felipe emphasizes that Theory of Constraints is often skipped in Scrum training when classes run out of time, leaving many credentialed Scrum Masters without this essential knowledge. He uses these principles daily with the Last Planner System in construction—creating visual boards that look like Gantt charts (because construction loves schedules) but function like Scrum boards with days of the week instead of "to do, doing, done." Many Moments, Many Lessons is a series based on journal entries I wrote while I was still married, long before separation or divorce was even something I could imagine. These entries capture small, everyday moments that didn't feel significant at the time, moments I was trying to understand in real time. In this series, I reflect on those moments with honesty and distance, naming the patterns I can now see clearly, without blame or rewriting the past. It's about recognizing how clarity often comes slowly, and how many women sense something is wrong long before they have the language for it. In this first episode, I focus on silence, and why silence is not always neutral or harmless in a marriage. Drawing from one journal entry, I explore how unspoken feelings, withheld communication, and quiet expectations can quietly shift responsibility and create confusion over time. If you've ever found yourself guessing, overfunctioning, or apologizing just to keep the peace, this episode offers reflection and recognition, not judgment, and a reminder that silence is not always golden. - - - - - - - - - - - - Want that chapter checklist just Click Here! In October 1982, journalist Lester Kinsolving asked the White House press secretary about a mysterious disease that had already killed hundreds of Americans. The response? Laughter. For years, as the death toll climbed into the tens of thousands, President Ronald Reagan said nothing. His administration did less. This is the story of what happens when a government decides some lives don't matter—and the activists, doctors, and ordinary people who refused to let their community die in silence.

Mel Chancey was once a Hells Angels chapter president, living inside a world most people only hear about in headlines. Power, violence, money, prison, and loyalty came with a price few ever talk about.Mel breaks his silence and speaks honestly about what that life really cost him. The years lost, the prison sentences, the damage done, and the moment he realized there was no such thing as halfway out. What followed was not a rebrand or an image change, but a complete transformation that required walking away from everything he once was. This is the real cost of that life — and the truth most never hear.
Today's episode is not the one I planned to release. I was supposed to share an interview I was excited about, but it didn't feel right to move forward after the tragic killings by ICE agents in Minnesota. Families are grieving. Communities are scared. And pretending everything is normal felt like the wrong move.In this solo emergency episode, I speak honestly about not having the right words, but choosing to not stay silent. The Healthy Project was created to shine a light on the systems that harm people, and what happened in Minnesota is not just a headline. It is state violence. It is the predictable result of a system built on fear and enforcement. This episode is about sitting with discomfort, naming what's happening, and turning awareness into action. I share why immigration enforcement has always been violent, why no human being deserves to die because of documentation status, and what you can do right now to support impacted communities. We talk about:The ICE killings in Minnesota and why this matters to all of usHow silence protects harmful systemsThe human cost behind immigration enforcementWays you can take action through education, mutual aid, and community supportThis is a heavy episode. But it's a necessary one. You don't need perfect words to show up. You just need to refuse to look away. ★ Support this podcast ★

Columbus police just confirmed it: the murder weapon was inside Michael McKee's Chicago penthouse. NIBIN matched shell casings from the Tepe bedroom to a firearm recovered from his residence. Multiple weapons seized. His alibi fell apart before his arrest at a Chick-fil-A seven minutes from the hospital where he worked overnight shifts. Surveillance footage places him at the scene. The charges are aggravated murder with prior calculation and design—death penalty eligible. But the story the family is telling doesn't match a single document in the court system. Rob Misleh went on Good Morning America and said what the legal record never captured: Monique told him McKee was emotionally abusive during their seven-month marriage. "She just had to get away from him." Misleh called McKee a monster. Said Monique never spoke his name after the divorce—only "her ex-husband." That she was always worried. The family knew. They watched her look over her shoulder for eight years. The 2017 divorce paperwork? No domestic violence allegations. No protection orders. Just "incompatibility." The system saw nothing because nothing was ever documented. Attorney Eric Faddis joins us live to explain why victims make that choice—the fear that documentation escalates danger, the hope that silence buys safety. He breaks down how courts treat emotional abuse versus physical abuse and whether the distinction matters when someone's dead. Then there's the question nobody's answered: what happened in June 2025? Eight years after the divorce, something brought McKee and Monique back into the court system. Six months later, she and Spencer were murdered while their children slept down the hall. Eric examines whether the legal system can be weaponized to force contact with an ex-spouse—and what that pattern looks like before it turns fatal.#McKeeTepe #MichaelMcKee #MoniqueTepe #SpencerTepe #MurderWeapon #HiddenKillersLive #EricFaddis #DomesticViolence #EmotionalAbuse #LiveBreakdownJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Abby and Patrick welcome film critic A.S. Hamrah. Hamrah is a prolific writer of reviews, essays, and dispatches, and the two brand-new collections of his most recent work, Algorithm of the Night and Last Week in End Times Cinema, furnish Abby, Patrick, and Scott with the perfect opportunity to talk cinema, nostalgia, the political economy of movies, and much more. From moviegoing as an embodied experience to the nature of theaters as built environment, the three explore the overdetermined significance of going to sit in a dark room alongside strangers, simultaneously alone yet connected to one another. Unpacking the status of cinema as a quintessentially modern medium, they consider how developments like the smartphone, social media, Netflix, and the COVID-19 epidemic have reshaped both the film industry and our practices of media consumption. They also go deep into the relationship between cinema and television, addressing genre distinctions between soaps and prestige TV; the origins of reality TV in COPS, writers strikes and neoliberal austerity; and the direct line between reality TV and the Trumpian present. Along the way, Abby, Patrick, and Scott take up topics including: the social role of film criticism as a genre to popular discourses about fandom and “letting people enjoy things”; the loneliness of critics and the anomie of watching “second screen content”; and shifting norms of audience behavior (read: being rude). And it all builds to a debate over whether or not going to a movie versus binge-watching Netflix may express different fantasies, desires and anxieties about intimacy, control, and death. Silence your phones, get some popcorn, and enjoy! Texts cited:A.S. Hamrah, Last Week in End Times Cinema: https://mitpress.mit.edu/9781635902686/last-week-in-end-times-cinema/A.S. Evil rarely announces itself; it blends into policy debates, media cycles, and daily habits until victims become invisible. We pull the mask off modern sex trafficking, call it the slavery it is, and ask the uncomfortable question: who benefits when the public looks away? From cartel-driven exploitation to grooming scandals abroad, we connect the dots between criminal markets, political incentives, and the cultural appetite that turns people into products. We don't stop at outrage. We ground the conversation in Scripture that speaks to marriage, fidelity, and forgiveness, drawing a straight line from personal virtue to public justice. If the marriage bed is to be honored, then our imaginations must be trained toward loyalty and restraint, not consumption. Forgiveness frees hearts from bitterness, but it never excuses harm; true mercy seeks the good of the vulnerable and demands accountability from the powerful. Along the way, we honor a Medal of Honor recipient and revisit Churchill's warnings about systems that need a political police to quiet dissent—reminders that liberty with moral limits outperforms enforced equality that breeds misery.Expect hard questions and practical direction: learn the signs of coercion, support survivor services, back serious action against buyers and cartels, and push for policies that reduce vulnerability rather than import it. Most of all, begin at home. The daily disciplines of self-control, generosity, and prayer shape the kind of citizens who refuse to trade human dignity for ideological comfort. If this conversation moves you, share it with a friend, leave a review, and subscribe so we can keep building a community that chooses courage over silence.#Psalm23 #WinstonChurchill #Socialism Support the showThe American Soul Podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1791934/subscribe Countryside Book Series https://www.amazon.com/Countryside-Book-J-T-Cope-IV-ebook/dp/B00MPIXOB2

Each year, police officers kill over 1,000 people they've sworn to protect and serve. While some cases, like George Floyd's and Sandra Bland's, capture national attention, most victims remain nameless, their stories untold. The Coroner's Silence: Death Records and the Hidden Victims of Police Violence (Beacon Press, 2025) reveals a disturbing truth about these cases: coroners and other death investigators are often complicit in obscuring the violent circumstances of in-custody deaths.Through rigorous research—including critical records analysis, public health studies, and interviews with victims' families—this book unmasks the systemic failures within forensic medicine. Terence Keel shows how incomplete autopsy reports, mishandled medical documents, and strategically lost evidence effectively shield law enforcement from accountability. The Coroner's Silence uncovers how the current system of death investigation operates as a mechanism of institutional safeguarding. By highlighting the structural powerlessness of coroners and their disconnection from the communities most affected by police violence, Keel demonstrates how bureaucratic processes can render human suffering invisible.True accountability requires more than procedural reform. It demands a fundamental reimagining of how we investigate, document, and understand deaths at the hands of state institutions. The Coroner's Silence is a crucial intervention that challenges us to confront the deeply ingrained mechanisms that perpetuate systemic violence. You can Terrence Keel at his website. In this final installment of our series on spirituality and adventure, I sit down with Bishop Mark Beckman, the 4th Bishop of the Diocese of Knoxville, to explore what happens when faith is formed not just in quiet rooms, but in wild places. From hiking solo through old-growth forests to walking hundreds of miles on pilgrimage, Bishop Beckman shares how discomfort, silence, and physical effort can open us to something deeper than words. We talk about the moments that push us to the edge of our capacity—storms in the backcountry, long days of walking, fear at high elevations—and how those experiences can shape trust, humility, and presence. This conversation is a reminder that adventure doesn't only take us outward into the world, but inward toward meaning, mystery, and a deeper awareness of God. Episode Timeline [2:22] – Bishop Mark Beckman's calling to ministry and how the outdoors shaped his faith from an early age [6:45] – Discovering God's presence through solitude, silence, and hiking alone in the woods [10:48] – Forming a men's backpacking group and finding unexpected community on the trail [16:05] – Walking the Camino de Santiago and learning trust one step at a time [22:40] – Pushing through fear and physical limits on a 14,000-foot peak in Colorado [30:12] – Retreat, silence, and wilderness as pathways to deeper spiritual awareness [38:05] – Suffering, endurance, and how hardship can deepen us instead of hardening us Links & Resources Appalachian Trail Denali National Park Camino de Santiago If you enjoyed this episode, I'd really appreciate it if you'd rate, review, follow, and share the podcast. In Episode 365 of Jay Movie Talk, I continue January's Loners, Drifters, & Outsiders series with a dive into Drive. One of the most polarizing and influential films of the 2010s.This episode explores the Driver as a modern loner: a man defined by silence, routine, and strict personal code. I talk about how the film uses restraint, minimal dialogue, and sudden violence to tell its story, and why Drive continues to spark debate over whether it's style over substance or something far more layered.i break down the film's direction, performances, and atmosphere, including:*Ryan Gosling's internalized, minimalist performance*Nicolas Winding Refn's controlled visual style*The role of silence and routine in character development*The shocking use of violence and moral consequences *Cliff Martinez's iconic score and its impact on the film's identity.Whether you love this movie or bounced off it, there's a conversation to be had. and that's exactly what this episode is about.

VP J.D. Vance travels to Minnesota, and Joe Pags says this is leadership Americans want to see—up close, on the ground, and unapologetic. Pags asks why the legacy media is barely touching it and explains why moments like this humanize law enforcement in a way critics don't want you to see. Then TX Governor Greg Abbott joins the program for a powerful conversation comparing Texas and Minnesota, defending ICE and law enforcement, shutting down false narratives, warning Texans about severe weather, and laying out his plans to combat fraud and cut property taxes. High-level leadership, real issues, and a must-hear hour that cuts through the noise. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In today's Daily Shift, we reflect on questions many of us first asked while learning about history: How did this happen? How did so many people go along with it? What would I have done if I were there? Over time, it becomes clear that these questions were never only about the past. They were about human behavior — fear, power, silence, and the ways people respond when harm unfolds gradually and is normalized. This episode invites listeners to consider how nervous systems respond under pressure, how silence can become participation, and why awareness matters when things are happening in real time — not just in hindsight. In this episode, we explore: Why history repeats patterns even when circumstances change How fear and power shape behavior The difference between awareness and judgment What it means to stay human under pressure A gentle reminder from today's shift: Awareness is not about shame — it's about noticing Silence has impact, even when it feels protective Our choices in the present matter Take a moment to pause and reflect on what this question brings up for you — not about the past, but about now.
Over the past nine weeks, you've done the work. You've set boundaries, clarified your values, and practiced giving yourself grace. But now you have something you might not have had in years: space. And if you're like me, that space can feel more uncomfortable than the chaos ever did. In this episode, I'm talking about what happens when we finally create room in our lives—and then don't know what to do with it. I introduce Brené Brown's concept of the FFT (the F*cking First Time) and why doing something new always feels awkward before it feels natural. I share a recent snow day that reminded me how easily I default to filling time rather than asking what I actually need. And I challenge you to befriend the quiet instead of running from it. This isn't about adding more to your plate. It's about learning to trust that empty space won't swallow you whole. In this episode: Why the space you've created might feel harder than the chaos you left behind Understanding the FFT and why discomfort is part of growth The four-second rule that reveals our addiction to noise A simple practice for befriending silence this week What's coming in the next episodes (spoiler: Blue Zones research and wisdom from hospice nurses) Resources mentioned: Emily P. Sermon Title: Awakened Through Scripture Scripture: Philippians 3:5-11 Guest Preacher: Pat Oxley Because we often call our engagement with the Scriptures "Bible study," we get the idea that it's a reference book to consult when we have questions, needs, or challenges. And while there is much to learn, the real power of reading the Scripture is in the way it awakens us to God's presence and grace.

What happens when God confronts the “two lives” we’re living—and calls us out of the background and into honest testimony? In this episode of the Thinking Christian Podcast, Dr. James Spencer is joined by Nick Sash (a longtime friend and the host of the Foundational Fathers Podcast) to talk about Nick’s new book, Unmuted: From Silence to Testimony, and the story behind it. Nick shares how years of hiding, silence, and “keep your emotions in check” masculinity gave way to a defining moment: God’s ultimatum to stop living divided and start living surrendered. Nick explains why so many Christians feel safest staying unseen and unheard—and why that “quiet” approach eventually harms us and the people we love. Together, James and Nick explore what it means to live an ordinary faith—not sugarcoated, not performative, not built on hype—just daily obedience rooted in God’s Word. They also discuss the importance of preparation and humility, the role of Scripture in discipleship, and how the church can form believers who don’t just hear the Word—but actually do it. In this episode, we cover: Nick’s testimony: from divided living to surrendered discipleship Why many men learn silence—and how God reshapes that story The message of Unmuted: moving from hiding to honest witness “Ordinary faith” vs. relevance-driven Christianity Why Scripture must shape the church more than trends or “bells and whistles” The Foundational Fathers Podcast vision (including taking the show on the road) What it looks like to share your story faithfully—one conversation at a time Subscribe to our YouTube channel

Innocence Shattered with Joe Horn | KWR0056 Kingdom War Room YouTube Description This Kingdom War Room roundtable is all about keeping children safe. Dr. Michael Lake is joined by Dr. Mike Spaulding, Dr. Corby Shuey, and special guest Joe Horn (host of SkyWatch TV and author of Innocence Shattered: Dismantling the Insidious War Against Our Children) to equip believers to protect children from trafficking, abuse, grooming, and cultural deception. They expose how: Human trafficking and exploitation target the most vulnerable The foster care system can be abused and misused Pornography addiction in the church fuels demand for exploitation Schools, media, and culture are softening and rebranding evil (e.g., "minor-attracted persons") The erosion of biblical masculinity and the family leaves children unprotected But this conversation is not just about exposing darkness — it's about practical, hope-filled solutions so that parents, grandparents, pastors, and the remnant can actively keep children safe: How to pray strategically and stand in the gap How to get involved locally to protect kids in your community How ministries like Whispering Ponies Ranch and Royal Family Kids / For The Children bring healing to deeply traumatized children How restoring biblical family roles and strong, godly men creates safer homes and communities If you want to protect the lambs, guard your home, and see genuine revival that restores families and rescues children, this episode will equip and challenge you.
