It turns out, something that would make America great again, is more room for dancing, but don't worry...it won't cost us a dime. Then, we present a new segment called "Audio Gripes" and in celebration of MTV's 44th anniversary (that made you feel old, right?), Jane gives us her unvarnished opinion on the channel and what it did for music and society. We then switch gears to Audio Sorbet and The State Fair, which began yesterday. We want to know, what is your "Fair Musts" and we also celebrate the winners of this year's Sporkies Competition. We're closing this week out with This Shouldn't Be A Thing - Poach This Edition. As always, thank you for listening, texting and calling, we couldn't do this without you! “That which unites us is far greater than what divides us.” The first four words of this sentence are subtitle, and subtext, for “Path of Liberty,” an immersive outdoor photo and media experience on view through fall 2025 at Freedom Plaza on Manhattan's east side. The creative groundwork for this project was a mammoth effort involving an extensive crew both on the road and behind the scenes. In today's podcast, we catch up with two principals of this project's creative team—creative director Daniella Vale and director of photography, Scott Beardslee—to learn more about their daily lives during two months spent traversing the country by van to interview a broad group of everyday Americans. From the founding idea of capturing the diversity of people across America to the curiosity and resilience of the crew when working on the road to the complexities of orchestrating the many sensory elements for an immersive experience in exhibition, our discussion is rich with creative insight. As Daniella shares during our chat, “I always tend to make three films. There's the film I write, the film I shoot, and then, usually, I rearrange everything and make a totally different film in the edit. So, I've gotten pretty accustomed to non-attachment and rolling with things. That's where the magic happens too.” Guests: Daniella Vale & Scott Beardslee Episode Timeline: 3:28: The inspiration behind Path of Liberty and Daniella's role as creative lead. 6:59: Daniella and Scott's respective backgrounds in photography and film, plus being curious and distinctions between finding the moment vs creating the moment. 12:02: Daniella and Scott's first introduction in the New York film world. 15:14: Building the crew for Path of Liberty and the challenges of traveling and conducting interviews on the road. 21:35: Daniella describes the three films she makes in the process of writing, shooting, and editing, plus the importance of learning to adapt on the fly. 26:54: Memorable stories from the Path of Liberty road trip. 30:56: Episode Break 31:30: We all want to be happy, but there's a difference between freedom and taking advantage of freedom 34:42: Daniella discusses her time in Japan, and the cultural contrast between American individualism and societies that put the group over the individual self. 41:00: The gear Daniella and Scott traveled with and how it affected the project. 47:59: The interview process with portrait subjects, plus making natural portraits in the moment. 58:32: The Path of Liberty installation in midtown Manhattan, the pride of subjects gathered from across the America, plus the complexities of the post-production process 1:05:39: The immersive aspects of the installation—from the sound design of the audio to the visual continuity between the photographs and the on-site terrain. 1:14:19: Scott and Daniella offer career advice for developing as a creative—leave room for being curious. Guest Bios: Daniella Vale is a New York City-based photographer, film director, and producer. Her creative passions began early, influenced by her uncles in Pittsburgh's avant-garde film movement. While attending university in Tokyo, Daniella worked on photography and documentary projects. She later moved to Bollywood, where she collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment and Cannes-winning director Manish Jha. In New York, Daniella has worked for brands such as VICE, MTV, Google, and Prada, and with talent such as Alicia Keys, Deepak Chopra, and Lucy Liu. Her portfolio includes work in fashion, branded content, docu-series, and narrative films across various global locations. Career highlights include participating in the 2018 Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner and being featured in Allure magazine for her directing work. And of course, most recently, Daniella headed up the creative team for the immersive outdoor installation, Path of Liberty: That Which Unites Us, which we're here to talk about today. Scott Beardslee began his career in photography, working as a 1st and 2nd assistant. Yet his passion for narrative filmmaking soon inspired him to take a different career route, focusing on shooting films, commercials, and music videos. Upon graduation from San Francisco State University with a film theory and production degree, he pursued cinematography and later attended graduate school at The American Film Institute in Hollywood. Before he became serious about filmmaking himself, Scott worked as a gaffer for many established A.S.C. cinematographers. Currently, Scott is a Director of Photography in the Union Local 600, working on commercials, music videos, and television. Send us a textOzzy Osbourne's life was a thunderous symphony of chaos, triumph, and resilience. From co-founding Black Sabbath in 1968 and birthing heavy metal with groundbreaking albums like Paranoid and Master of Reality, to launching a wildly successful solo career marked by anthems like “Crazy Train,” Ozzy constantly redefined rock rebellion. His career was equally infamous—biting off a bat's head on stage, snorting ants, and surviving near-death experiences, including the tragic loss of guitarist Randy Rhoads. With Sharon Osbourne by his side, he reinvented himself again in the '90s through Ozzfest, which ran over two decades, and MTV's The Osbournes, which humanized the “Prince of Darkness” for a new generation. In later years, Ozzy battled Parkinson's disease and multiple health setbacks but still returned for a historic final Black Sabbath reunion show on July 5, 2025, performing seated on a bat-themed throne in Birmingham. Writing the clues for today's crossword must've been quite the chore, but Brian Callahan has done himself proud. It took a bit of cultural archeology to make sense of 64A, Coneheads, e.g., for short, ETS (a reference to SNL characters); it took no effort at all to meander down the wrong path while contemplating 1A, "Catfish" channel: MTV (oh, that sort of catfish); and we still cannot believe that after 82 years, 6A, Contract from a publisher, BOOKDEAL, still turned out to be a debut. Remember when your musical taste knew no boundaries? When your Discman would jump from ICP to Britney Spears without missing a beat? This episode is a love letter to that chaotic musical era that shaped us.We kick things off with some seriously infectious earworms—Thumpasaurus's "Struttin'" and Ween's "Boys Club"—songs that plant themselves in your brain and refuse to leave. These quirky, catchy tunes lead us down memory lane to our guiltiest musical pleasures from the late 90s and early 2000s.The conversation takes a nostalgic turn as we revisit our teenage obsessions with Insane Clown Posse's "Riddle Box" album and Bloodhound Gang's irreverent catalog. We reflect on a time when MTV's TRL would showcase Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Enrique Iglesias "Bailamos" in the same hour—a musical diversity that seems increasingly rare in today's algorithm-driven world.Gaming enthusiasts will appreciate our deep dive into College Football 26, where we break down the gameplay challenges, Road to Glory mode, and how this latest installment captures the authentic college football experience. From high school recruitment to dodging Nebraska's defense as an Ohio State quarterback, the game delivers an immersive and surprisingly difficult challenge.Film buffs aren't left out either, as we share our thoughts on the new Superman movie (spoiler: it's better than Man of Steel) and the profound impact of finally watching Schindler's List. We wrap things up by exploring some outstanding female-fronted metal bands that deserve more recognition.Whether you're looking to rediscover the soundtrack of your youth or find some new music to add to your playlist, this episode bridges past and present with equal parts nostalgia and discovery. In a secret meeting between CBS and CBS News' new owners and the Trump Administration , they promised Trump that they would effectively be the new Fox News propaganda outlet of them, running Trump approved ads, and putting Trump friendly news and programming on the air. And shocker — Trump's FCC just approved the sale of CBS' parent to a big Trump supporter's son. Michael Popok takes a hard look at a new letter that reveals it all, and what it means for CBS and its viewership. You don't want your MTV anymore. Thanks to Ground News! It's Friday, July 25th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Victory for Dutch homeschool families Earlier this year, the Home School Legal Defense Association highlighted the story of the Hinrich Family, who fought for over a year for the right to homeschool their children in the Netherlands. Just this month, the Public Prosecutor's Office publicly stated that parents who refuse to send their children to compulsory school, based on a qualified religious objection, will no longer be prosecuted. Like the Hinrichs, over 2,100 children were exempt from compulsory attendance in 2024 in the Netherlands, due to objections by their parents that no school in their area reflected their religious convictions. This is one of the lawful reasons to homeschool in the country. Nevertheless, parents were criminally prosecuted for truancy and found themselves, as did the Hinrichs, in a court battle to defend their natural right to raise their children according to their religious convictions. Thankfully, this decision changes that. The Public Prosecutor reported there were 160 criminal cases against parents in 2024. These prosecutions occurred despite Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which requires states, including the Netherlands, to respect “the liberty of parents…to ensure the religious and moral education of their children in conformity with their own convictions.” Please pray that the authorities in the Netherlands will stop harassing homeschoolers for good. Deuteronomy 6:4-7 underscores the role parents should play in the education of their children. “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.” Epstein files controversy dragging Trump presidency down The Epstein files controversy is dragging down the Trump presidency. Gallup reports that his approval rating has sunk to 37%. The revolt of House Republicans who favor releasing the Epstein case documents surprised White House officials and multiple members of GOP leadership, reports Politico.com. Some have questioned whether President Trump himself is implicated criminally. In an interview with Major Garrett on CBS' The Takeout, House Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized the need to be transparent. JOHNSON: “We want full transparency. We want everybody who is involved in any way with the Epstein evils -- let's call it what it was -- to be brought to justice as quickly as possible. We want the full weight of the law on their heads.” GARRETT: “But when the Justice Department said in that same two-page memo, there's no reason to pursue further prosecutions, many said, ‘How can those two things be properly aligned?'” JOHNSON: “These are good questions. I don't know. I've never seen the Epstein evidence. It wasn't in my lane, but I have the same concern and question that a lot of people do. I mean, there are real victims here.” Murder victim's mother forgives murderer Bryan Kohberger Bryan Kohberger, who admitted to brutally stabbing four University of Idaho students to death at their home in November 2022, was given his sentence on July 23rd. Sadly, the judge sidestepped Biblical justice found in Genesis 9:6 which says, “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind." The judge gave Kohberger four consecutive sentences of life in prison without the possibility of parole. He was also ordered to pay a combined $200,000 in fines and $5,000 in civil penalties to the families of each victim. He was also sentenced to an additional 10 years in prison and ordered to pay a $50,000 fine in connection with a count of burglary associated with the crime. Amazingly, the mother of one of Bryan Kohberger's murder victims forgave her daughter's killer in court Wednesday, expressing hope that he would find Jesus Christ and said she'd be praying for him. Cara Northington, the mother of murder victim Xana Kernodle, expressed confidence that “Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, now has her in His loving arms in Heaven, where she can never be harmed ever again for eternity.” “Ozzy” Osbourne, who championed hell, wanted to go to Heaven And finally, "Ozzy" Osbourne, who rose to prominence during the 1970s as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, died on July 22nd at the age of 76, reports The Guardian. The English musician adopted the nickname "Prince of Darkness.” Osbourne's signature song entitled “Black Sabbath” included these lyrics: “What is this that stands before me? Figure in black which points at me Turn 'round quick, and start to run Find out I'm the chosen one.” In their 1970 song entitled “N.I.B.”, they feature the lyrics, “My name is Lucifer, please take my hand.” And a 1980 song entitled “Mr. Crowley” referenced Aleister Crowley, an English occultist often labeled as "the wickedest man in the world." Ozzy explored Crowley's legacy with curiosity and mystique. The lyrics said, “Mr. Crowley, what went on in your head? Oh Mr. Crowley, did you talk to the dead?” Osbourne sold over 100 million albums, including his solo work and Black Sabbath releases. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006 and as a solo artist in 2024. In the early 2000s, Osbourne became a reality television star when he appeared in the degrading, profanity-filled MTV reality show The Osbournes. It aired from 2002 to 2005 alongside Sharon, his second wife, and two of their children, Kelly and Jack. Sadly, Osbourne abused alcohol and drugs most of his life. He also was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in his twilight years. For someone who championed hell, he appeared to want to go to Heaven. In a 2010 interview with The Sunday Times, he said, “I genuinely believe that if you're a good person, you go to Heaven. But I can't imagine what that is. There has to be more to life than this.” There is indeed more to life than what we can see in the physical realm. But, in Romans 3:10, the Bible says, “There is none righteous, no, not one.” And Isaiah 64:6 says, “All our righteousness is like filthy rags.” Finally, Romans 10:9 proclaims, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” If you've never repented of your sin and asked Jesus Christ to be your Savior and Lord, there is no time like the present. Twenty-five years after the world braced for Y2K, we're celebrating our 99th mixtape with a journey through the musical landscape of 1999 – arguably one of music's most transformative years. From Latin pop explosions to hip-hop revolutions, this episode captures the diverse soundscape that defined a generation. The late 90s represented a unique cultural moment when music discovery happened primarily through radio and MTV, creating shared experiences difficult to imagine in today's fragmented landscape. When Ricky Martin burst onto English-language charts with "Livin' La Vida Loca," he didn't just score a hit – he opened doors for countless Latin artists to follow. Meanwhile, Eminem's debut "My Name Is" signaled something revolutionary was happening in hip-hop, establishing a controversial voice that would dominate for decades. What made 1999 truly special was its balance of innovation and emotional depth. Blink-182's "Adam's Song" tackled teenage suicide with remarkable sensitivity, while Moby's reluctantly-included "Porcelain" brought electronic music further into the mainstream. The Chicks challenged radio censors with "Goodbye Earl," a darkly comedic take on domestic abuse packaged in an upbeat country crossover hit. These weren't just songs; they were cultural touchstones that reflected the optimism, anxiety, and creativity of a society on the cusp of a new millennium.https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/1999-mix-99-episodes/pl.u-mJy8137uNE8XR1q https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4qZC4ONJesEZ2d6uz9s55j?si=da64abcd6c8c46de Livin' la Vida Loca by Ricky MartinMy Name Is by EminemSomeday We'll Know by New RadicalsBetter Days (And the Bottom Drops Out) by Citizen KingGoodbye Earl by The ChicksSteal My Sunshine by LENAdam's Song by blink-182Porcelain by MobyMy Own Worst Enemy by LitScar Tissue by Red Hot Chili PeppersHeartbreaker (feat. In part one of Red Eye Radio with Gary McNamara and Eric Harley, we remember the life and legacy of Ozzy Osbourne who died Tuesday at 76. Fans and fellow artists from around the world paid tribute Tuesday to the legendary rocker who was arguably the founder of Heavy Metal with Black Sabbath in the early 70's, a illustrious solo career to follow and worldwide fame with MTV's "The Osbournes" that set the format for many reality TV shows to follow. Ozzy influenced all of us here at Red Eye Radio and will be sorely missed. Also tonight we remember the life of The Cosby Show's Malcom-Jamal Warner who drowned Sunday at the age of 54, Hunter Biden considered the liberal version of Joe Rogan, former President Obama denies all responsibility for the Russian collusion hoax, audio from the CBS Morning Show on their parent company's decision to cancel the Late Show as well as comments from CNN's Scott Jennings, President Trump announces a new multi-billion dollar deal with Japan, a look at economics from the GDP to the monthly job reports, inflation's impact on the US, Seattle is experiencing the largest price increase among all major cities and the cost of living for the younger generation. Also Delta airlines to use AI based revenue technology and the notion of individual pricing on all consumer based products plus much more. "Xtra Cherries" An aspiring baseball player with a solid fastball, the Illinois-born Chip Znuff put down the glove in favor of the bass and he left home at 17 going west with his punk rock band D-Generation. The D Generation story is told best by Chip himself, so I'll leave that one to him, and I'll cover what happened after that band broke up. Licking his wounds from his first time around on the rock and roll train, Chip formed Enuff Z'Nuff in 1984. Inspired by everyone from The Rasberries to Cheap Trick to Squeeze, Enuff Z'Nuff had pop hearts filled with hooks, but they were marketed as glam metal dudes, which led them into that lane, but it was probably a misrepresentation of the band's real chops. If you listen to the music and and ignore the image, they come across more like a tougher version of Jellyfish. Nevertheless, they made it work; in spite of their image, hits from their debut self-titled album like Fly High Michelle and "New Thing" were catchy blasts of ragged psychedelia that found the band all over MTV. Their follow-up record Strength found them looking decidedly less glam and it garnered rave reviews from Rolling Stone and the Washington Post and they absolutely crushed it on Letterman. Over the course of their career, Enuff Z'Nuff has toured all over the world, been on Howard Stern numerous times, been featured on VH-1, played on the Jenny Jones show, had Little Steven sing their praises as one of the most underrated bands on the planet and have put out close to thirty albums, including greatest hits and live recordings. Although the band has had its share of tragedies, losing members like Derek Frigo and Rickey Parent and its share of personnel changes with singer Donnie Vie stepping away from the band on two separate occasions, Enuff Z'Nuff are survivors. Chip took over vocals in 2014 and the band has never sounded better. Their new album Xtra Cherries has a deep bench, featuring Steve Stevens, Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, Donnie Vie, Gunnar Nelson and Steven Adler, who Chip played with in Adler's Appetite. The album is a refreshing blast of gritty pop that's played with muscle and heart, each track finding the band tearing the cover off the ball. https://enuffznuff.bandcamp.com/album/xtra-cherries https://www.enuffznuff.com/music www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers: Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com (mailto:editor@stereoembersmagazine.com) BLUESKY + IG: @emberspodcast
Mean Book Club "From the Vault!" We're periodically reuploading episodes straight from the ghost of Mean Book Club's past! This episode we're revisiting "Congo" by Michael Crichton. Check out our thoughts on this bad, bad book before we watch the bad, bad movie!Hey book nerds! This week Colin O'Brien (Just For Laughs) and Michael Wolf (Comedy Central, MTV), hosts of the Literati podcast, forced us to read Congo by Michael Crichton. This book spent 12 weeks on the NYT bestseller list in 1980 and was later adapted to a movie in 1995 (unfortunately not starring Sean Connery). But WHY? Mean Book Club breaks it down.Mean Book Club is four ladies (UCB, BuzzFeed, College Humor, Impractical Jokers) who read, discuss and whine about NYT bestselling books that have questionable literary merit. It's fun. It's cathartic. It's perfect for your commute. New podcast (almost) every Tuesday! Send any future book suggestions to meanbookclub@gmail.com! Follow us on the socials @meanbookclub! Visionary director Joseph Kahn (DETENTION, BODIED, TORQUE) joins Adam and Joe in the ArieScope studio to discuss his incredible career journey and the making of his new film ICK (in theaters now). From learning how to speak the language of cinema in the 80's thanks to Spielberg films and MTV… to how a fake company name and a briefcase led to him becoming one of the greatest music video directors in history working with artists like TAYLOR SWIFT, KORN, MUSE, BRITNEY SPEARS, PUBLIC ENEMY, ROB ZOMBIE, and more… to the trials of making his first feature TORQUE and his creative redemption with DETENTION and BODIED… to how he's broken down filmmaking into “science” and “language” and his theory of “5th Dimensional edits”… to the making of his new movie ICK and why it's all still “a struggle”, whether its a Taylor Swift video or his latest feature film… this amazing, no f's given conversation with one of the signature visual voices in pop-culture has been a long time coming!
