Fitness Marketing Mastery

Could you fill more programs and help more people by moving from antiaging to anti ageism in fitness promotions?  What if the answer to more inclusivity and diversity isn't focused on turning back the clock but it's embracing the now. While it sounds good and I think most of us would agree we do that, is there anyone among us that hasn't used words that hint at aging in reverse, or slow the aging process.  While some of this isn't even our fault, we've got it from unlikely sources: researchers. It hasn't even been marketers who stand to make money. Though there's always some money involved. Grant money, potential products, tenure, I suppose all count.  I remember reading the first research findings about the ability the potential of exercise on mitochondria production. I distinctly remember the conclusion was, “exercise is indeed the fountain of youth.”  Ageism  As innocent as that, there it is: ageism. Youth is desirable, the pot of gold, and anything associated with aging to be fixed.  This episode touches on ageism in fitness. As I talked with Ashton Applewhite I had to be quiet and listen. It took a minute for what she said to soak in. That for those who aren't active #activeaging for instance may be ageism. I am going to wrestle with acceptance of that.  I think science has given us evidence that we can age more healthfully than ever before. I also believe no one wants to be in pain, uncomfortable, or lose independence if they can choose another option. So being active in a way to sustain muscle, bone, (and brain) health is something I'll have to stand for in order to support our ability not to stop aging, but to change the way we age. (and a respectful nod to ICAA, whose tagline is just that.) Should it Be Accepted?  I personally have a hard time just accepting that aches and pains come with age. Instead, I have found that the way you eat, work, sleep, and exercise changes much about the way two people age. It's epigenetics, the lifestyle habits that control the expression of your genetics.  I bristle a little with statements like, “as you get older, those aches and pains sneak up on you.” It's not due to age. Traditionally accepted signs of aging are do to the lifestyle you had, and that which you have now.  From you now to you 20 years ago, there's been change, no doubt. But for those who are more conscious and aware of better ways to exercise, eat for their own biology, and are resting and meeting their needs better than they did, they often feel better, fitter, and more alive than ever.  So yes, aging should be accepted. Aches and pains and weight gain shouldn't. We may have to deal with them but if we simply believe we can't do anything about them, if indeed we choose to have a different outcome, I think that isn't quite anti ageism.  An Open Invitation I'm opening up a conversation with you. I hope you'll comment, and be open to a quote or interview. Let me know in the comments if this topic resonates with you and if you'd like to respond to a couple questions to be included in a round up episode.  My Guest:  An internationally recognized expert on ageism, Ashton Applewhite is the author of This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism. A co-founder of the Old School Anti-Ageism Clearinghouse, she speaks widely at venues that have included the TED mainstage and the United Nations, and is at the forefront of the emerging movement to raise awareness of ageism and to dismantle it. Questions we answer in this rapid fire:  What suggestions do you have for fitness professionals making choices about their ad, website, social media images?  How can we do better?  Are there good examples that come to mind? Businesses doing it well?  What do you say to this very common conversation:  “I'm getting old.”  “It's better than the alternative.” Let's talk about contemporary hashtags  #antiaging  #nevertooold  #foreveryoung  #agingbackwards  #aginginreverse  #flipping50  #activeaging  #seniorfitness  Reference in this episode: Alex Rotas British photographer: https://alexrotasphotography.co.uk/ Flip: I went to Alex' site to pull this resource for you and came across an article on her including some images. And… I am as guilty as anyone. But at least I'm aware. I said, “She looks great,” as it stated her age(72). My first thought was, this is what following a passion and purpose does.  It's going to take time for this not to be a comparison of one (insert age) to another (insert age). At a class reunion coming up, won't we all be doing that to some extent, I wonder. Thinking he or she aged well, or not? Is that ageism?  There's much to explore here. Key Takeaways Self-care inevitably equals wellness, which diminishes the need for healthcare. Senior living communities need to step aside and let residents live their lives. Older adults need to take ownership of their own self-care. Ageism is a major challenge inside senior living communities, showing up in interactions with staff, executives, and resident to resident. Ageism depletes older adults' confidence and destroys their dignity. A multicultural environment expands horizons. Programming should embrace different cultures—staff should share their cultural experience with residents, and vice versa. Have a “culture night” with slideshow and regional cuisine.

Personal Trainers: How to Boost Your Social Media Engagement

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 25, 2021 17:36

If you're taking the time to post but need to more social media engagement, this is for you. Wondering how you stop getting a handful of comments on a post and start getting some traction? After observing hundreds of posts and giving feedback for consulting clients about why what they're doing isn't working and how to get better results, I realized the majority of mistakes are just unintentional glitches. What is this Post About? So, this post is all about how to make Intentional corrections to what you're doing. You can boost your social media engagement. And it doesn't just take throwing money at a post, in fact that easy, sleazy way of boosting a post with money? Will fail you every time while Facebook gets rich on it. There's only one reason to boost a post, and that's to test it. Then if it's working you go into Business Manager and create a real campaign to get real results. That, is an entire other podcast, actually a master class and you do need to create ads, friends. If you're serious about using Facebook and growing a business, you'll need to. But first… what you post has to be worth it. Boost your social media engagement organically before you move on. Start Here No matter who you're targeting, talk to them not at them. But first… Be clear who you're talking to before you post. Do you need more leads, or are you talking to your customers? It's a different conversation. Do you want to reach local business partners? Engage that specific target with a question so you can have a conversation. Okay, now that we've handled that, let's move on. Ask a question every ideal customer (even a stranger) can answer easily These become easier to respond to when they become polls. In Instagram or on Facebook you can create a poll. Use stories to do it, or create a meme that does it for you. Have you worked with a personal trainer? Yes or no Do you workout at home or gym? Home or Gym And in those two questions I increased the level of engagement. In the Yes or No “poll” it's an easy answer. In the home or gym question, someone could have to add an answer they type in. Be thoughtful about strangers. These are prospects. They haven't even joined the ranks of your leads yet! They like to vote but they aren't going to spend a lot of time doing so until you're someone they already know and trust. You can try telling them, you're taking a poll, and you'll share the results. They're going to want to benefit from taking the time. People do love to share their opinion, but they have to have some reason for doing it.  Additional questions to boost your social media engagement If you were a gym member before the pandemic, will you return (just gym-goers, please)? Are you over 50? Able to do lunges without knee issues? What's the worst symptom of menopause you've experienced? When it comes to weight training, do you love it or hate it? How many times a week do you do interval training? What's your favorite time of day (or your have-to) for exercise? How to Stir Up Emotion I'd love to hear your experience. Did you work with a personal trainer?  What did you hate about it? What did you love about it? If you never did, what's stopping you? Have you ever worked with an online trainer? Did 2020 make you do it? Follow up! If you're forgetting that social media is a conversation, you could be missing the best way to increase your engagement. As soon as you post, you need to be available to engage. Go in and like and share your post from your business to your personal profile if you are your demographic. You can't set it and forget it. If you've got posts scheduled, that's fine, but be aware of them and add comments to them yourself! The more action the more traction. You can start it. If you have those few customers who follow you whatever you do, and engage with you, use that to your advantage. When they comment, respond back. Use more than 4 words to do it, and end with a follow up question. Each of those things matters to the algorithm. And be sure you don't just have your 5 kids like your post… because if they're boys and you're targeting women in midlife for instance, you're going to be shown to more people like those first responders. It's not going to go very well for you is it? Try tagging a few friends who are in the demographic you want (who are okay with you doing that). Don't Make This Mistake What You Do on Facebook is Not What You Do on Instagram. Or is it? I'm guessing if you're simply automatically posting every Insta post to Facebook it's not working very well. That's because these are two different platforms. You're going to say things like “link in bio” in your Instagram, and you're going to use hashtags, that hurt your reach on Facebook. (Did you know? More than 4 on Facebook, maybe even any at this point, really decrease your reach there?) There you have it, literally some real questions you can ask, and answer, and follow up on to boost your social media engagement. Questions about how to boost your social media engagement? I'd love to hear them. But remember this… you should spend a very small amount of time on social media. It is not your content. Your content comes from your website. The social media is giving that wings and wheels so you get that message out and bring them back to your website. Do What Only You Can Do You and only you can do live video. But someone else, for a lot less $ than you should be earning per hour should be doing your social media graphics, and quotes from that content. I call that system Social 365 and I've taught it at 3 major fitness association conferences (ICAA, SCW, and FitnessFest). Most fitness pros start with social instead of ending there to bring people back to their site. Know your platform. I'll link to my book Health & Fitness Professionals Guide to Social Media Marketing (Healthy Learning). Yes, any social media guide can easily be outdated by the time it reaches print. It's why I wrote this one to be inclusive of the questions you need to ask of all your marketing and of all platforms now and in the future. Attending a fitness conference this year? Taking a continuing education course? How well do you consider your goals and what you want to accomplish from the content you consume? In the world of fitness conference content and fitness association award winners it can be hard to distinguish between smoke and mirrors. Fitness Conference Reflect Reality? Is all that glitters, or has boobs and botox, really substantiated success you're seeing? Or are you in fact seeing the evidence of marketing. The package is the surface. What's inside that matters right? Before I go on, I have to say this, I'm a presenter at fitness conferences too. And you should look at me with the same scrutiny that you look at anyone else. I've presented internationally since 2000 for associations including IDEA, NSCA, CAN-FIT-PRO, ICAA, SCW, ABC, and Fitness Fest and MEDFIT, multiple times in many cases. I've also published articles for several of them and serve as Subject Matter Expert or advisory board member for others. Fitness Conference Content Alarms Taking advice from a presenter at a fitness conference talking about making money and programming can be tricky. Consider two very different skill sets. One skill set is the science and its practical application broken down into a daily and weekly action set that will get your clients or customers results. The second is the ability to make business decisions based on profit and loss, on profitability, and scalability of a program. There's More And yet a third is the ability to look at the much bigger picture of how many lives have a positive influence from the pursuit. Maybe a decision is okay if it's purely for enjoyment and hobby-sake. If it's a business that must pay the bills, support individuals and their families, and ultimately build a legacy not just have a spotlight and have fun, then there are different sets to apply and evaluate. Your Fitness Conference & Experts As a business leader – if only for yourself: someone who pays bills and taxes based not just on what you make but on what you keep – you need to be sure that you separate these two very carefully. I recommend that you look closely at the “back end” of any of your beloved presenters and do your homework. Learn from them, they are some of the best, and they are using science to relay programming to you. However, they may have no idea of how to actually implement a profitable program. How do you know? Ask these questions: Is this presenter doing what I'm doing or want to do? Is he/she running a profitable business using the tools and techniques they are teaching? Does that matter to me? What do I want and how do I define success? Is this content the main focus of the presenter's business life outside of presenting at conferences? Is this the sole, exclusive content the way the presenter makes a living? Knowledge vs. Application Because although a university lecturer may be a wonderful teacher, that lecturer has a regular paycheck regardless of the job or effort they put in (until someone evaluates them of course!) And you, as an entrepreneur or someone working on commission, do not have that luxury. If you work as a manager of a department, the profitability of your program matters. This year more than ever, if the profit margin on your programs and services has not supported your business but has only been supported by it, you're in a pickle right now. That just doesn't work anymore. If you've created a department of personal training for instance that simply extends the life and success of a club's members but really has no profit margin due to expenses and high commissions with too little revenue, without enough members continuing in, you have not created a sustainable model for this moment we're in. We Don't Celebrate Losses I'll leave that touchy subject alone because it's my educated guess that those trainers, managers, owners in that position right now are not listening to this episode. They're in a place where survival, not up-leveling, is and has to be their focus. For you though, listener, it's time to get real. For those sessions you're choosing and those continuing education courses your taking, make sure to filter what you're learning together with from whom you're learning it. The Bottomline So, there you have it, a sneak peek into how presenters are evaluated or they're not. Never once since 2000 when I began presenting did any conference organizer ask for my tax returns. My feeling is often that the greater the number of initials behind someone's name, the greater the number of titles, the greater the need to make up for something or prove something. The OverKill on Certifications and Titles Why would someone need a handful of jobs if just one of them were sustaining their lifestyle? It's a question you must ask. What is their business model? How do they earn money? How did they scale their business? How do they enjoy freedom in their life? Is this a model I want to use for my own? You don't have to get all you need from one individual. I do think you want to choose carefully the individuals you follow to know they match your values, and the life you aspire to. Did I stir up any questions? Comments? Leave them below the show link at fitnessmarketingmastery-dot-com/fitness-conference

ICAA brought together 154 providers of housing and services for older adults to create strategies and tactics to help all segments of the senior living industry emerge from being locked down. Learn about the 6 strategies and 35 tactics developed to optimize the health and well-being of residents and staff. About Colin Colin Milner is a leading authority on the health and wellbeing of the older adult and has been recognized by the World Economic Forum as one of “the most innovative and influential minds” in the world on aging-related topics. An award-winning writer, Milner has authored more than 300 articles and contributed a chapter to the World Economic Forum book Global Population Ageing: Peril or Promise? His expertise has been sought by organizations around the world, including the World Health Organization, the White House Conference on Aging, the National Institute on Aging, New Balance, and the European Commission. He is the publisher of the Journal on Active Aging and has authored more than 300 articles on fitness, wellness, and the business of healthy aging. Key Takeaways Properties are replacing the “it's always been done this way” outlook with a new paradigm. Lockdown is having a negative impact on residents' physical, mental and spiritual capabilities. Operators are waking up to the fact that they need to address actual health and well-being beyond simply keeping residents safe. Senior living's current value proposition is taking a significant beating, not only in the media but within the communities. The new value proposition should be: How do we help individuals live the best life possible? The first strategy is to design and renovate interiors and exteriors of your buildings to create a “well” building. From faucets to soaps to towel dispensers, touchless everything is going to come into play. Attracting qualified staff starts with creating the right culture: fair pay, the right tools, the ability to make crucial decisions on the spot, and opportunities for your staff to grow personally and professionally. Advocate for a model that focuses on staff and residents not just the bottom line because if you take care of those two, the bottom line will come. If you promote that you are committed to wellness, then commit to wellness. Don't just use it as a catchphrase.

He is the publisher of the Journal on Active Aging and has authored more than 300 articles on fitness, wellness, and the business of healthy aging. Key Takeaways The ICAA 7-dimensional wellness model focuses on the ability to understand, accept and act upon the capacity to lead a purpose-filled and engaged life. In doing so, we can embrace our potential within all the areas of Wellness to optimize life's possibilities. Nearly 60% of ICAA members expect to move to a “wellness” versus “care” model in the next five years. But wellness in many cases has become a marketing mantra. Properties have to be committed to the wellness movement. (An example is a hotel that promotes a full-service spa, only to find a hot tub with a massage room.) On-demand, more flexible services in senior living is a huge trend. Residents want what they want when they want it. Services have become more personalized across the board, enabled by technology. There is a huge need to educate the public on the differences between various levels of senior housing options, and to rid the industry of the “nursing home” stigma. Thursday, June 27, 2019, 12 noon WPKN 89.5 FM www.wpkn.org Host: Duo Dickinson In the last few years, we have all heard the word “walkable” used to market homes in cities and towns. It has become a marketing buzzword, used to sell in-town living. But “walkable” used to be the norm in cities and towns. Cars changed that. The Connecticut Turnpike, I-95, opened in 1958, and within a decade its final extension through to Rhode Island and the building of I-91 completely changed Connecticut’s cities. The huge ribbons of concrete and steel cut through these towns, often wrecking neighborhoods. These roads acted as walls, cutting off neighborhoods and ending any connection to the water that created the cities in the first place. This highway invasion changed every city in America, and the Baby Boomers extended the Greatest Generation’s love of suburbia and car-based living in Connecticut by abandoning downtown living. Connecticut’s cities were becoming those places that were not worth arriving at. But in the last decade, there is a new beginning of a dramatic change in how cities are used. Connecticut’s cities and real estate developers are realizing that the appeal of living in a place that is truly “walkable” has real value – to both retiring Baby Boomers who do not want to mow lawns, and their offspring, the Millenials do not want to even own a car, let alone a home. What is the future of living, at HOME, in downtown America? Three thought leaders will be online for this hour: Robert Orr is an architect and a renowned town-planner with more than forty years national and international experience. With projects at Seaside, and the New Hartford Library, Camp Anne and commercial, institutional and community projects, as well as custom residential homes, Orr’s role as urban designer has a depth of perspective few others can offer. Robert Orr has been honored with many design awards and featured in hundreds of publications at home and abroad. John Massengale has won awards for architecture, urbanism, architectural history, and historic preservation, from organizations and publications ranging from Progressive Architecture and Metropolitan Home, to the National Book Award Foundation (with the first architectural history book to win a National Book Award), to several chapters of the American Institute of Architects, and the Walton Family Foundation. He has served on the Boards of the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU), the Institute for Classical Art & Architecture (ICAA), and Federated Conservationists of Westchester County (FCWC), and was the founding Chair of both CNU NYC and CNU New York (the state chapter). Massengale has taught at the ICAA, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Miami and is a licensed architect in New York State. Steve Mouzon opened his own architecture firm in 1991 and produces a number of town-building tools and services. Mouzon Design’s Premium Tools Collection is a subscription service to robust new place-making tools that heretofore were unaffordable when commissioned by a single development. A Living Tradition is a framework for a new type of pattern book that is principle-based instead of taste-based, and therefore contributes to the creation of new living traditions. Steve is also a principal of the New Urban Guild in Miami. The New Urban Guild is a group of architects, designers, and other New Urbanists dedicated to the study and the design of true traditional buildings and places native to and inspired by the regions in which they are built.

Fitness marketing to midlife women [that works]

Fitness marketing to midlife women, that works Five years ago she was ignored. Today she's not ignored but she's stereotyped. Midlife woman trying too hard to look younger, a face frozen and plumped with Botox, wearing clothes she can share (but look slightly “off”) with her daughter. A midlife woman who's operating on the 1980s metabolism science she learned. Relies on calories, steps, heart rate, and data, that ignore the state of her hormones.  A midlife woman who enjoys at least a glass and maybe three of wine most days, starts with coffee and flirts with fasting but has no idea what a “healthy diet” is for her today. A midlife woman who thinks exercise is about burning… calories, off fat… so she can “fix” what she doesn't love about her body. She's all these and more. If she gets a compliment it's veiled in a disclaimer. You look great for your age.   Body shape motives are not the only thing that gets her going. Promoting weight loss may be detrimental to her participation. Don't forget the women who don't need to lose weight but who have experienced a relocation of body weight, those with disease risk factors, who want more energy, want to be proactive in aging, or gain bone density. Women control an incredible amount of buying power. Even before women were in the workplace equally they influenced 80% of household decisions. They still do now that they are in the workplace. They are diverse. Even marketing to the niche of women post menopause is unique. ICAA categorizes them as “athletic” if they regularly exercise 3 or more times a week. For some this is running, biking, lifting and swimming, but for others it's a walk or yoga. So, clearly you can't treat them all the same. Naturally, though, it's easy to think you know her. You may be her. Your mom, aunts, or prior clients are her. Therearecommon denominators. But the things that make them unique are what make their program and the way you attract them and serve them unique.  If you miss them, you'll lose her. Barriers to marketing to midlife women:   “For active, athletic, middle-aged women there is just nothing. A 22-year old doesn't get it and I'm not in wheel chair, there isn't much for us between.” Even if you offer something between the gap described above by a Flipping 50 program participant, you may not be getting the message across. You want to reach her: 1) Where she is 2) With a message created for her 2) In a way she hears it 3) Without offending her The Biggest Mistakes Fitness Marketers Make (and we're all fitness marketers) Thinking they are all the same: How do you think of them? Do you imagine they're frail, stiff, in pain, lack energy, did aerobics with Jane Fonda or Jackie Sorensen, are empty-nesters, have grandchildren, have belly fat, cellulite, want weight loss, want belly fat loss… Did you know? Some of them are doing their first triathlons, learning to swim so they don't drown in open water, going to training camps to ride bikes in mountains, skiing downhill at 50 miles an hour, wearing bikinis, learning to weight lifts and have kindergarteners? And starting their entire lives over by themselves or with someone new, starting businesses… so they're not afraid of a little grind.  Thinking you know their goal: If the title of your program isn't a coffee table book you'd happily display at your home, rethink it. No 50-something, 60-something, and there's a strong chance 70-something wants to “own” needing a fall risk reduction class. She doesn't want to buy the fear she wants to buy the transformation. Don't think you know what she wants. Don't put it into words what she needs with your titles. Describe what she wants.  It might be performance – golf, running, starting triathlon, (or anything else after retirement). It might be to avoid cognitive decline, depression, anxiety, or muscle or bone density losses. More positively though, it is hope.  This year, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of her controversial debut, Switzer ran the Boston Marathon again with the same bib number she wore in her first. "People still treat older people the way they treated us women 50 years ago, which is, 'Be careful! You might hurt yourself!' when in fact the opposite is the case," Switzer told Prevention. "The more you do, the more you can do! There are lots of women who have run marathons at 70, 80, even 90. I was only eighth in my age group at Boston [in 2017], for heaven's sake!" Prevention Magazine, Nov. 2017  Examples of Michele Obama, Ernestine Shepherd, Madonna Buder -The Iron Nun, and a growing number of aging iconic fitness professionals are showing the world a new way to age. But it's not normal yet. Because even she will say, “I think I look pretty good for my age.”She'll say, “I'm getting so old.” She'll say that even while she doesn't want to be treated as “old” or invisible. She feels invisible. Environment is everything. Have you noticed how people are flocking to sites where exercise over 50 or aging is included in the title? If positive things happen there, people will gather. Be one of them. Be positive. Be correct, but be positive. Growing Bolder is one of the most well-know sites for older adults. Why? It positively portrays aging. It defies traditional treatment of aging. It makes fun on occasion of older adults. But it does so in a playful, not condescending way. The Aging Triathlete and Thriving Not Surviving are two Facebook pages by midlife and older women describing their own journeys from inactive, or in need of a health intervention, to triathlon training.  Did you know? Age-related decline in triathlon (swim, run, and bike) starts earlier in swimming than in cycling or running. Isn't that bizarre since you and I would both probably recommend swimming more and more as someone got more limited with joint issues.   Not Acknowledging Their Barriers Not knowing how far and wide fitness benefits take them Not having had good examples Having old habits and thoughts about exercise Time (perceived need) Fear of getting hurt Lack of trust for fitness “professionals”  Relate to Her and Overcome Objections You might be thinking…is a golden phrase to use when you're working on this type of copy. Create a Better Offer: Solve a real problem They know they have They are actively seeking a solution for They have some urgency for So you can… Relate to Her. You must: Be Vulnerable Tell a Rags-to-Riches story Reveal your real life vs. Cinderella life Tell your story… Start with, when I was… Know What She Wants, What She REALLY Wants It's not weight loss. It's not dumbbells. It's not a scale or tape measure. It's not a salad.  What is your WHY? Your Why Your Business Why Why she should do it right now Get testimonials for marketing to midlife women from midlife women. How do you get a perfect testimonial? This question: What almost stopped you from registering/getting started? Audit your images: Are you showing HER? Are you showing the dream?  She doubts: Your program will work For her She doubts her.  Universal Truths of Marketing to Midlife Women She thinks she's unique. She thinks she's flawed. She thinks she's uniquely flawed. It's not a good time. Just because you've always done something or thought a certain way doesn't mean you can't change it. She has free will. She's failed before. This is not her first rodeo. Success dulls the knife. Failure sharpens it. Failure is data. She doesn't know that yet or think it yet. She blames failure on a lack of willpower, discipline, or motivation. She's a prove-it-to-me girl. Make sure you know what you're talking about. Facts and what she calls herself. 70-year olds don't call themselves “seniors.” 50-year olds resent getting the AARP card in the mail. She doesn't recognize herself in the mirror sometimes. Write copy like you ARE your ideal customer. Get a copywriter that is your ideal customer. If you have a 20-something writing copy or on social media make sure they give you examples of their work. Get a focus group together and get their thoughts. Listen to them. Don't object or defend. Let your current customer tell you what they would have wanted to hear.  Interview. Have a Third Party interview your ideal customer. Create 5-6 questions. Use these as examples: If you could wave a magic wand what would you like to change about your fitness right now? How long have you felt this way? What have you tried? What do you hate about _______? What would you love to see change? Is there anything else you'd like to add? She likes to give and she'll support businesses that do more than profit or provide a service. Partner with a charity (shoes, mittens, winter coat drive, food pantry) Percent of proceeds donated Employ underprivileged Support water in the world Scholarship youth into your programs Host community events Change your approach What if you mocked your own product and service? Explain how it works instead of catchy titles. All the things that midlife women hate and turn them off… Baby Gap shirts on muscle bound men Made-up women working out in LuLulemons Chicken breast and egg whites Walking into the male dominated weight room Pink Dumbbells are Your Enemy! Women respond to colors of the sunset. She IS working. She may have the corner office. She IS overwhelmed. She DOES think a lot about her family and juggle responsibilities. She is willing to spend. She's not finding good choices. She wants someone who understands her kinesiology, physiology, endocrine system, and her socialization. She's got some unlearning to do. She may decide to do a marathon or a triathlon in a decade or so. She's not done. But she does need to get started. These and more are the way to fix mistakes you're making in marketing to midlife women, make yourself the best choice, and once you get her, help her and keep her loving life… and the role you play in it.  Isn't that what it's all about? If you'd like some help. But you're not sure where to start. Yet the idea of being a coach with a business you love helping women love their lives sounds like exactly what you want to do… and you want to stop having a hobby and start having a business – with a life – then set up a time to talk about how to make that happen. 4 Easy Marketing Steps That Will Grow Your Fitness Business If your first thought is "easy marketing" is a myth, you're not alone. Truth is that marketing isn't hard, but getting distracted by shiny objects is easy.  When you want to buckle down, focus on how to get leads, clients, and recurring revenue though you have to ignore shiny objects and do the one thing hardest of all. You have to trust someone else.  Unless you're a marketer, a website developer, an SEO expert, a Facebook ads manager or know how to write copy (ALL of which you should know SOMETHING ABOUT, by the way) you have to eventually turn it over. Someone else will get far better results in far less time and your time is better spent.  So my guest in this show is my trusted resource.  Jonathan Kraft is a digital strategist who has contributed well over 1,000 how-to videos to YouTube since 2006.   His videos have had more than 10 million views. He and his wife spent 2 years traveling the world from 2009-2011 on income earned solely from affiliate marketing. He's traveled to more than 40 countries and speaks German and Spanish in addition to English. He is best known for helping small businesses who have something going online already to become medium sized businesses. He does this by helping them improve their branding, marketing, site structure, search presence, and business strategy.  He has worked with online businesses across industries, from professional speakers to investment firms, and from health clinics to online retailers, including a few mentioned below: FlippingFifty.com MattressInsider.com (Custom Mattresses) MobileSleepComponents.com (Wholesale Mattresses for RV and Boat Dealers) AnnmarieGianni.com (Skincare) ChrisBeatCancer.com (Health/wellness) TheEducationDoctor.com (Education) ReviveCenters.com (Health Clinic) DezThornton.com (Professional speaker coach) MistiBurmeister.com (Corporate Performance Trainer and Speaker) ConcussionRepairManual.com (Health care) LaraAdler.com (Environmental Toxins Expert) SolutionsInLowVision.com (vision screening and aid for the blind and visually impaired)   That's an impressive list.  Questions about easy marketing steps we cover in this episode: Overall when you jump into a business as the man behind the curtains… where is it that people need the most help when they hire you? And what is it you see that might be a different need? What are the biggest errors you see regarding websites? How important is S.E.O.? What would fix S.E.O. fast? What are the biggest errors you see in funnels and marketing? Questions I'm going to ask Jonathan in a future episode:  Which system have you had the most experience with for and prefer: Customer relationship management Host Webinar host Shopping cart Of all the businesses you've worked with, grown, among those who've been most successful in monetizing their website, marketing, social reach what has been the biggest ONE THING or common denominator? assuming there's demand for the product and there's a big enough target market for the product)   The 4 Easy Marketing Steps we discussed: Audit your website for user friendliness Audit your customer's journey Be wise about S.E.O. (use Google) Commit to regular content on your site ….and bonus (not included in the episode) is how you KNOW these easy marketing steps work: Use your Google analytics! Find out how much traffic, which pages, what blog content people enter on, and if they come from social or direct traffic. Do you get organic traffic? Known now and then track as you implement the easy marketing steps from todays post. Pssst. From SCWfit.com to ICAA to Athletic Business to Fitness Fest, I can share that less than 50% of business owners or social media managers use Google Analytics. WHAT?  It's the only way to find out if your marketing is making headway. You'll learn what pages people come to and how they get there. You'll learn if they're coming from social media, direct to your URL, or from referral. You've got to know your numbers. It makes easy marketing more realistic. You've got to have a goal! You've got to  have a benchmark to measure against. Yes, ultimately revenue. But if you don't know where and why it's coming to you? It's random and a roller coaster.  Thanks for listening. Questions about behind the scenes strategies on your website that could help create positive, easy marketing changes for you?  Add them to the comments!

In the third and final part of our time with Colin, we begin by going over how effective wellness programs help to create competitive positioning for communities by powering sales and marketing efforts.  We talk about how this applies across all levels of care within a community and how it relates to referral sources in particular.  Part of this includes the leveraging of a wellness program in a community’s post-acute strategy.  We close with Colin discussing the ICAA’s Leadership in Wellness Management Certificate.

In part 2 of 3, we begin our conversation with Colin discussing the holistic, multi-dimensional framework that is common within senior living wellness programs and whether or not that remains an effective approach.  We dive deeper into whether wellness programs have made an impact on helping communities meet their visions of improving the wellbeing of their residents and how staffing community-wide leadership roles within wellness areas provides impact.

Face2Face with David Peck

Ian talks about leadership, why attitude is so important, why misery is a choice, consistency and why he’s an unapologetic nerd.  Biography Since his years in high school, Ian Tyson has never shied away from the stage. From drama productions to his many years as a student leader, performing and motivating have always gone hand in hand. Ian has parlayed his passion for comedy and entertaining with his desire to inspire change in others into a 25+ year career as one of the top speakers in North America. The middle child of 3 kids, Ian grew up in St. Thomas, Ontario where he still makes his home and is the proud father of two teenagers. Ian draws much of his inspiration from tales of his childhood. From the humorous: Recess! Eating paste, and playing superheroes, to the touching: how we define our friends, and dealing with the loss of his mother at the age of 10. Combine this with his extensive training in leadership and a more than-healthy dose of pop-culture references and you have the recipe for Ian's presentations and workshops. Ian holds a degree in English from Carleton University where he trained to one day become a teacher. However, since he had been speaking to students since the end of his own high school career, he saw a chance and made his speaking career a full time venture. He was the co-founder of Youth Leadership Camps Canada (YLCC) in 1992, and it remains one of the top leadership training programs in Canada. He has worked with student leadership organizations across North America and has been a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at both CSLC and NASC National Conferences. Ian has presented at national, provincial/state and regional conferences for CADA, SADD, OSAID, 4-H, FFA, HOBY, COLS, ICAA, and CAIS among others. For 4 years, Ian sat on the board of directors for The Canadian Student Leadership Association (CSLA) as a "Director at Large" and was named the Ontario "Leader of Distinction" in 2009 for his outstanding contributions to student leadership. Ian continues to speak to schools, working with educators, parents and conferences across North America, as well as working at corporate events, conducting team and trust building workshops and becoming a talented event MC. His past clients have included companies like; Bell Canada, Union Gas, The Home Builders Association, Jostens, The City of Surrey, Professional Advisors, Corrections Canada, London Life, The Committee of Youth Officers and The National Character Education Conference. Ian now enjoys a career as one of North America's Top Speakers; working with both students and adults in a variety of venues. His first book "Hooray For Everything!: The Optimist Manifesto" is now available, and has been very well received across North America. He has self-produced a successful podcast interview series "Ian Tyson's PositiveCast" which has Ian discussing life, success and positive attitude with people from all walks of life.  To book Ian for your next conference, event or assembly, please click here. ---------- For more information about my podcasting, writing and public speaking please visit my site here.  With thanks to producer Josh Snethlage and Mixed Media Sound.    See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
