This podcast is based on two fantastic quotes. One from Mahatma Ghandi and the other from Muhummad Ali. How and Why Lose Yourself in the Service of Others if you want to Lead Your Best Life. Such a profound idea. Selfishly Unselfish.. Here 3 Powerful Reasons to do this: 1. You Discover a Deeper Purpose When you serve others, you connect to something larger than yourself. You move beyond personal gain and tap into meaning, purpose, and contribution. It's in giving that we often find the deepest sense of fulfillment and identity. 2. You Grow in Compassion and Perspective Helping others expands your empathy. You begin to see the world through different lenses, cultivating humility and wisdom. Serving others shifts your focus from “What do I want?” to “What do others need?”—and that shift often brings clarity and inner peace. 3. You Become Your Best Self Service challenges you to rise—to be more generous, patient, resilient, and courageous. Ironically, the more you give, the more you grow. In losing yourself in service, you often end up becoming the person you were truly meant to be.   Want me to Coach You Lead Your Best Business - Lead Your Best Life? Territorio Rojo.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I'm your host, Keith Weinhold. You need to become financially-free so that you have… time to be present and live in the “now”.    You are here today and gone tomorrow. There's not much time to leave your dent in the universe. All that you ever have is now - and that's how it will always be. Today, on Episode 500 of Get Rich Education.   Welcome in… to Get Rich Education. I'm your host, Keith Weinhold.   At times, people tell me something like: “Look at what you're doing. You live an extraordinary life.”    Now, I might reply to that person with something like - “Thanks. I appreciate it. I like to get out and see the world.”   But do you know what's really going on inside my head when someone tells me that I live an extraordinary life?    I'm really thinking, “Well, of course, I do. Don't you? You design your life: So why would you choose anything… else or anything… less… than an extraordinary life?”    Esp. in this world of abundance that we all live in. That's why you have zero reason to live any life that's LESS than extraordinary - if that's what you want.”   Investing for income now is a tool for freedom.   When you're no longer trading your time chiefly for dollars, that's when you can stop living a disembodied existence - when you're living such that your mind and your body are in two different places.    Begin to own your time and truly be yourself.   You need time.   And you don't have much time. That's why, in my experience, it's better to err on the side of being too early over being too late.    Are you truly living… or are you only existing in space and time? I think that deep down… you know. Ask yourself. You already know the answer.   Remember, Episode 1 of this very show is called: “Your Abundance Mindset.”   But if you're thinking in LIMITING ways, here's the good news - the really good news for you.   You don't have to believe everything that you think.    The good news is that… you were born rich. You were born with an abundance of choices. Society stifled that.    You don't have to believe… everything that you think.    Since there's never a "perfect time" to build financial freedom, your conception that it's too early is often just your fear.    As long as you've got a few touchpoints, once you dive in, you'll figure it out.   Old people tend to regret the things they didn't do, or didn't do earlier—not the things they did.   The best reason for becoming financially-free is so that you can buy time and finally start to be yourself.   If you don't want to do it for yourself, do it for someone you love… because there's someone in this world that needs you to be... you.   Since all that you'll ever have is “now”, you need residual income to buy time so that you can spend more of your life present in the “now”.   Now, if you were to ask yourself, what made the most successful leaders in the world successful, was it the capital they had, their technology, the people they knew, or their mindset? Which one of those things was it?   It's their mindset.   See, because if you took away the capital, technology, or friendships from Jeff Bezos or Steve Jobs or Mahatma Ghandi or MLK - whoever you want to use as your leader.   If you took away those elements but they retained their mindset, they would most likely go on to regain everything they've got.   That's why you must deeply explore and consider, what mindset do you have, where did you get your mindset, and what mindset do you need for the decades ahead?   Did you get it from… your parents? If so, I'm sorry to say, that's usually a red flag… and that's where most of us get our mindset from.    But most people never learn differently.   Realize this - and this is a little hard to say. But the truth is hard.    Your parents don't want your success. Isn't that ironic? Your very own parents don't want your success; they want your safety.    They want you to have a stable, safe, say, accounting job, in a cubicle that only gives you two weeks of vacation a year - because it's KNOWN and average.   A ship in harbor is safe; but that's not why ships are built. Some safety is OK. But you weren't built to live a life CENTERED on safety either.   That's not even approaching living your dreams or doing anything ‘extraordinary'.   Most people aren't living their dreams. They're living their fears.   When your parents had you at birth - in the hospital delivery room - they'd be thrilled to know that you'd grow up to live your DREAMS. But on the day-to-day, they've got you living your fears.    Once your parents got “newborn you” home from the hospital, all the way up to adulthood, an overly fragile safety mindset often becomes pervasive… and it stifles dreams.   If you don't take a chance, you don't have a chance. Take the risk or lose the chance.   Don't live below your means; grow your means. It's in your genes… though that probably wasn't part of the mindset of your formative years.   I love my parents. They cultivated the right environment for me. But you'll often find an overabundance of safety from yours - especially from your mother.   Eckhart Tolle said: “Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now. That's Tolle.   Alright. But once you've made time, what's next? It's how you arrange your priorities.    We think it's about time management - and it STARTS THERE.    True achievers in life make large blocks of uninterrupted time - notifications off, phone one room away.   But more specifically, it's about your priority management.   For me, I know that I'm going to be living in this same body 50 years from today - just like you will inside yours, so I make FITNESS a priority in life - often at the expense of investing & business opportunity.    That's my take - it doesn't have to be your take. That's an example of priority management.   First, you've got to play a game worth winning. It's been said that one question to establish focus is, ask yourself: Are you hunting antelope or field mice? This… idea is simple (but supremely powerful): A lion is capable of hunting field mice, but the prize wouldn't be sufficient reward for the energy required to do so.  Instead, the lion must focus on the antelope, which does require considerable energy to hunt, but provide a sufficient reward. In whatever you are pursuing, are you hunting antelope or field mice? Are you focusing on the big, weighty, important tasks that will provide sufficient reward for your energy?  Or are you burning calories chasing the tiny wins that won't move the needle? Ask yourself this question from time and time and use your answer to reset as necessary. Always hunt antelope! When it comes to priority management…   … you've got to make time for yourself and create better “nows” for yourself beyond the mandatory loads that you're already encumbered with.    Because you'll still have meal planning, grocery shopping, doctor's appointments, housekeeping, scheduling, meeting, driving…   There's not much leftover discretionary time left over to make you the you that you need to be - whether you're trying to be the best equestrian rider that you can be because you connect with horses…   …you're trying to be the greatest PARENT ever, cleaning up a beloved local creek, coaching your kid's sports team… or maybe you'll move heaven & earth to write that book that you just KNOW that you have inside of you. Get it out there!   But instead, people rationalize away their low quality of life.   If you're working for the weekend, examine your M-F. You're not living in the “now”. If you call Wednesday “hump day”, you're not living in the now.    The good guys are BRAVE enough to risk investment, commitment, marriage, being vulnerable to family members, and all those things that make the non-doers and bad guys envious. Be brave enough to study and then risk boldly.   This is sad. You've probably heard of stats like this before - a Pew survey from last year found that 46% of US workers who receive paid time off from their employer take less time than they're offered. Almost half!   People rationalize away their low quality of life - actually defending living a small, scared, too-safe life.   If you need a push to fire up Google Flights, consider that you will be happier because of it.  That's what the science says: researchers from the Netherlands found that the biggest boost in happiness around vacations came from the simple act of planning one. Then you get to anticipate it. How important is it to build a residual income rather than work more hours? Is working more and working late the answer?   Understand… that twenty years from now, the only people who'll remember if you worked late are your kids.   Instead, become a time billionaire. Let's lean into this and look at what some others say.   Graham Duncan proposed the concept of the Time Billionaire. If you've got a billion seconds worth of wealth, that's 31 years. He said that:   "A million seconds is 11 days. A billion seconds is 31 YEARS… I feel like in our culture, we're almost obsessed, as a culture, with money.  And we deify dollar billionaires in a way...And I was thinking of time billionaires that when I see, sometimes, 20-year-olds—the thought I had was they probably have two billion seconds left.  But they aren't relating to themselves as time billionaires."  That's what Graham Duncan said. The central point here… is that TIME is our most precious asset. No one ever posts pictures of napping on the sofa on social media. But if you're a time billionaire - you might consider that an ostentatious display of time wealth. Ha! When you're young, you are RICH with time. At age 20, you probably have about two billion seconds left (assuming you live to 80). By 50, just one billion seconds remain. But as Graham Duncan pointed out, we don't relate to ourselves as the "Time Billionaires" that we really are. Most of us fail to realize the value of this asset until it is… gone. In his passage called On the Shortness of Life, the stoic philosopher, Seneca, says, "We are not given a short life but we make it short, and we are not ill-supplied but wasteful of it." That's Seneca. To me, being a “Time Billionaire” isn't necessarily about having the actual time, but about the awareness of the precious nature of the time you do have.  It's about embracing the shortness of life and finding joy in ordinary daily moments of beauty. Let me introduce the “Surfer Mentality”. Yeah, the surfer mentality. When a surfer gets up on a wave, they enjoy the present moment, even though they know with certainty that the wave will eventually end.  They fully enjoy THIS wave, with the wisdom and awareness that there are always more waves coming. There are five ways that you can apply this “Surfer Mentality” and have this awareness in your life: (1) enjoy your next wave and embrace the present moment, (2) be strategic about your positioning in between waves, (3) PASS on more waves rather than jumping at the first one that comes your way, (4) always get in the water and stop sitting on the shore, and (5) roll with the punches that life deals you. That's the “Surfer Mentality” Do not become an ostrich. An ostrich will bury its head in the sand to avoid danger. A lot of humans behave the same way when they encounter new information that challenges their existing beliefs or views.    An ostrich cares more about being right than finding the truth. Do not become an ostrich, embrace new information that forces you to change your mind. That, right there, is growth.   A great, actionable way for you to GROW with the time you've created and the priorities that you've outlined is to Do something new that scares you. This is EXACTLY what you did as a kid but that you forgot how to do.    For example, when you were age 11, you swam in water over your head for the first time. It made you rise up, grow, and gain confidence. I can't tell you what grows inside you psychologically, but…   We're operating 200,000 year-old mental software. That's when the modern human brain came into existence.    Our primordial brains are evolutionarily wired to see problems - to detect threats like lions & tigers - and our body still responds to those threats like they are lions.   And today, we don't have to look very hard to find those problems. Just turn on the news or scroll social media and there they are.   And in this environment, it can be easy to let ourselves be yanked around by our circumstances.   When it comes to OTHERS - peers, family, and friends along your life journey…   You have to be strict with yourself but tolerant of others.    That's what the stoic Marcus Aurelius wrote about in his meditations. He has these exacting high standards.    Most people don't have the self-discipline that you do… and it's called SELF-discipline for a reason.    It's not a thing that you get to project onto other people. You don't get to go around insisting that other people follow YOUR standards and your code.    You have to be encouraging and forgiving of other people because they don't have the gift that you have. They don't own the drive that you have. There's even a saying in ancient Rome.    “We can't all be Catos.” If you remember from history, Cato was the influential leader that championed Roman virtues during THEIR empire.   We have to be tolerant, and accepting and encouraging of other people. If this realization is still frustrating to you…   Another way that you can think of this, is that others never signed up to the code and standards that you have.”    Money is a tool for freedom. The best reason to accumulate wealth is to buy yourself freedom from anything you don't want to do, and the freedom to do the things you do want to do. Money is not an end in itself. If you sit on it and never use it, you've wasted your life.    Money CAN absolutely buy happiness. But only so long as you spend it on upgrading and expanding the things that make you happy or in buying time, instead of using it to play status games or on fleeting experiences.    Increase the difficulty. If you're listening to this, then your life is (probably) already on easy mode compared to the global and historical standard. You need to strategically introduce some challenges to keep yourself motivated. Don't ruin yourself, but don't let yourself get too complacent, either.    Investing involves risk. You're going to lose sometimes. The good news is that you don't have to make money back in the same PLACE where you lost it.    If something in your business or life is losing money, you don't have to plug the hole right there at that spot. Often it's easier to make the money back elsewhere.    It's never the right time. Any time you catch yourself saying “oh it'll be a better time later,” you're probably just scared. Or unclear on what to do. There is never a right time for the big things in life: having kids, changing jobs, breaking up, getting engaged, or buying the property.    Err on the side of too early over too late. Related to that point, since there's never a “perfect time,” it's almost always better to do things “too early.” Your conception that it's too early is just your fear, and once you dive in you'll figure it out. Old people tend to regret the things they didn't do, or didn't do earlier. Not the things they did. Bad things happen fast, and good things happen slowly. This is one reason why bad news seems more newsworthy - but it's not actually more important. It's hard-wired within you that money is a scarce resource.  Don't be afraid to commit. You've got to let go of fear about tomorrow and just get on with it.    Uncertainty is a PERPETUAL condition - it's existed in your entire past, and will in your entire future. That's why you feel uncertainty in the present too. Uncertainty only disappears when you die.   We all want to know the future. But the truth is, it's easier to make decisions within your certainty of NOW rather than postpone & speculate about your perpetually uncertain future.   “Life is meant to be lived, not postponed.” Don't get so caught up trying to make a living that you forget to live a life. That's not a life well-lived.   Regretting past decisions is an utter waste of energy. Does the past exist now separate from your own thoughts? Nope… it doesn't even exist.    Coming up - you'll hear ANOTHER voice with a more COSMIC perspective about life and the power of “now” - it includes some sound effects to anticipate.  Then I'll come back in for today's conclusion. I'm Keith Weinhold. It's Episode 500 of Get Rich Education.    LISTEN: Neil Degrasse Tyson: Life and Death - A Cosmic Perspective   That's Neil DeGrasse Tyson on the significance of life, death, and the power of “now”.   Horace Mann said, "Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity."   Life feels ordinary. But in fact, it's incredible that you overcame tremendous odds to have your… one… precious life.   In order to be born, you needed: 2 parents 4 grandparents 8 great-grandparents 16 second great-grandparents You needed 32 third great-grandparents 64 fourth great-grandparents 128 fifth great-grandparents 256 sixth great-grandparents To be born, you needed 512 seventh great-grandparents 1,024 eighth great-grandparents and 2,048 ninth great-grandparents For you to be born today from 12 previous generations, you needed a total sum of 4,094 ancestors over the last 400 years. Think about what they overcame… to produce you – How many struggles did they have? How many battles? How many difficulties? How much sadness did THEY have?  How much happiness? How many love stories created you? How many expressions of hope for the future? – did your ancestors have to undergo for you to exist in this present moment… The past is history, the future is a mystery, and this moment is a gift. That's why they call this gift, “the present”.   Spend your time where time disappears. Your work should feel like play… your passions should feel like flow… with people that make hours feel like minutes.    The more present you are, the quicker the present goes. That's the paradox.    A full life goes fast. But in the end, time that flies… is time well spent. And a life that flies by… is a life well spent.    At least here on Earth, all you've got is one life and one shot.   You shouldn't fear death. You should fear a life where you could have accomplished more that fulfills your potential and aligns with your soul.   You're here today and gone tomorrow. You've got NOW to go leave your dent in the universe.   There's no time to wait. You now have less time remaining in your life than when you started listening to me today.   All that you ever have is now - always. Don't Quit Your Daydream!

My Friend, if your life is drifting the buck stops with you and it's time for you to do something about it; the alternative … well, the alternative is getting to the end of your days here on this earth and looking back at a life-long missed opportunity.   WEIGHING UP THE PAST There are so many people walking around on planet earth today whose failures and disappointments of the past are ruining their present and robbing them of their future. Can I ask you a question? Are you one of those people? I remember a time in my life when my past was weighing me down, a time when in fact my past became such a burden, such a huge load, that it was completely unbearable. It was so bad that I came very close to taking my own life. I remember standing on the 8th floor balcony of that hotel seriously considering jumping over the edge. I'll share with you a little bit later what it was that pulled me back from the brink. We're kicking off the year with a series of messages which I have called, ‘The Art of Living' because if we're going to realise the hopes and the dreams that we have for this New Year we need to spend some time thinking about our lives. Most of us don't do that. We kind of know the hurts, the things that aren't working so well. A lot of people brood about the negatives in their lives, but mostly we just think about the symptoms. So today and over the coming weeks we're going to go a bit deeper than just the symptoms. We're going to be chatting about exactly how we live our lives and the best place to start is with our past. We each have a past, and as I've said there are just so many people for whom their past is ruining their present and robbing them of their future. Now in a very real sense, unless we let go of the past we simply can't enjoy our lives today. We simply can't look forward to our future without that sense of hope and anticipation. Let me give you an example. I know a man who has had a very difficult life. He was abused when he was young and for many years people told him that he just wasn't good enough. Instead of encouraging him the people around him, his work colleagues, even his family, kept telling him what was wrong with him. They focussed on his failures and his faults rather than on the good things about him. Now come on, we're all something of a mixed bag aren't we? We each have certain strengths and certain weaknesses and it's really sad when people just focus on our weaknesses. And that's exactly what happened to this man. So today he looks at his world through that set of eyes, through a mindset that's deeply affected by his past. He can't really enjoy who he is and what he has, and he has rather a lot, when he looks forward to his future he doesn't have a sense of anticipation, even for tomorrow and the next day let alone for rest of this year and the rest of his life. We can talk about all sorts of wonderful things that this year might hold, but unless we first let go of the hurts and the disappointments of the past then none of that means anything. You've probably heard that old saying, “Don't cry over spilt milk”. Now there's a reason for this for once the milk is spilt you can't un-spill it. You can clean up the mess, you can apologies to someone if it hurt them or inconvenienced them, you can even learn the lesson that might stop you from doing it again but you can't undo it. None of us can change the past and for some people today it's time to let go of your past. When I was standing on that balcony on the day almost 20 years ago now, it was the past that was pulling me over the edge. Even though I had many successes along the way I'd made some mistakes, some big mistakes and I just didn't know if I could live with the consequences of those mistakes. It seemed like the present wasn't worth living; it seemed like the future was bleak and hopeless and when we lose hope, hey what's the point of living. I know there are some people who are thinking that way today and what makes it even harder is that everybody else is out there focused on starting off the new year and looking forward to what the year has to hold. The thing that pulled me back from the edge on that cool, sunny morning was something that I'd read the night before. For some reason someone had put a Bible in the top draw of the bedside table in my hotel room. I'd taken it out and I read something in it that night. It said this: Don't be afraid for I am with you; don't be afraid for I am your God. I'll strengthen you, I'll help you and I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. (Isaiah 41:10) That's what gave me hope; the hope of a present where I wasn't alone; the hope of a future that just might be worth living. None of us can change the past but on that day on that hotel balcony began for me the process of letting go of my past. The future begins today, the past has gone and while we should learn lessons from it, it has no right to rob us of the days and the months and the years that lie ahead. And can I tell you, the very reason that God sent us Jesus His Son, the first time that Jesus stood up and spoke in public he read these words from Isaiah Chapter 61. He a said: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour, to comfort and provide for all who mourn to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the Spirit of praise instead of a faint spirit. (Isaiah 61:1-3) My friend, Jesus has a future for you. He understands how the past has battered you and bruised you. He knows the baggage that you're carrying around just as he knows all the baggage that I'm carrying around and what He wants to do is lighten the load, to lift that burden. Since that day when I stood on that balcony my life has changed completely. It's not that some days things aren't hard, of course they are. They're hard in everybody's life. But you know somehow I look forward to each day, each month and each year with a sense of hope and anticipation because Jesus has healed me of my past. My failures and my hurts no longer rule my life, He does and that makes all the difference. So as you stand on the threshold of a brand new year I want to leave you with this fantastic truth: Jesus came to set you free from your past and to give you a present and a future that truly are worth living.   IS YOUR LIFE DRIFTING? Now imagine for a moment that you are on a sail boat in the middle of a large ocean. Your sails are down, your rudders out of the water and you're just drifting. How soon do you think you will get to where you're going? In fact, will you ever get to where you're going at all? Alright, let's put ourselves in that drifting boat for a moment out there on this massive great ocean. No sails, no rudder. It's frankly no way to get to where you're going and eventually unless you do something about it you're going to die. With the oceans covering 71% of the earth's surface and with the way the tides and the currents travel the chances of making landfall that way are somewhere between Buckley's and none. Stay in that boat, your rudder out of the water and the sails down on the deck and eventually you're going to die. And the tragic thing is that back here on dry land, back here on terra firma many people, way too many people are living their lives that way – just drifting aimlessly. And on top of that their expectation is that they should be getting to where they want to go. Don't believe me? Last night on the news they interviewed a 16 year old girl who had just had triplets. Now she and her boyfriend were unemployed relying on the Government to keep them afloat. When the interviewer asked them whether they were planning on getting a job they both answered ‘No!'. Their plan was to stay on Government Welfare and have more children. Now that's by no means an isolated case. Extreme? Yes, but not unusual. Whether it's in our lives or in our jobs, drifting aimlessly along is not a recipe for success. Not that I'm suggesting that we should all be chasing after this success ‘thing' – the big salary and the big house and the big care – and nor am I suggesting that all the positive outcomes in our lives have to do with hard work alone, but there are many people just drifting their way through life wondering, Why is nothing happening?; wondering why they're not getting to where they want to go. This week being the beginning of the New Year we've kicked off a series of messages which I've called ‘The Art of Living'. It's about being deliberate in planning and living our lives here on this earth. One of the mistakes I see people making – can I say, particularly amongst the Christians that I have so much to do with – is that somehow they over-spiritualise their existence: “Well you know it's all in God's hands; I have to wait for Him to do everything”. Others might rely on something else – on Karma or whatever they rely on. Please don't get me wrong, I am a Christian; I believe in God, I believe in Jesus and I know that many of the big things that have happened in my life have happened not because of any brilliance or hard work on my part but because God's mighty hand was on it in the first place. But I also know that laziness doesn't bear fruit. Have a listen to these: Laziness brings on a deep sleep. An idle person will suffer hunger. (Proverbs 19:15) I passed by the field of someone who was lazy, by the vineyard of a stupid person and see, it was all overgrown with thorns; the ground was covered with nettles and it's stone wall had been broken down. Then I saw and considered it. I looked and received instruction. A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest and poverty will come upon you like a robber and want like an armed warrior. (Proverbs 24:30-34) Well, I don't know where you're at in life but humour me here. Imagine that God is God, that He loves us like a father, would you expect this God to bless laziness, to bless idleness, to bless a lack of planning and a lack of vision and a lack of a sense of direction? Well the answer is kind of self-evident. We live in a world of cause and effect – planning, diligence, hard work, application, dedication, focus, persistence, those things tend to yield good results most of the time. Idleness, laziness – those things tend to yield bad results most of the time. So let's come back to this boat we were drifting on. If your life is like being in that drifting boat I'm going to ask you a question here. Now you may not like but I'm going to ask you anyway. Whose fault is that? Well, we can blame our parents, we can blame our circumstances, our education or lack of it, our looks, our physical weaknesses, perhaps even our disabilities. But none of those things really cut it do they? If your life is drifting the buck stops with you; if my life is drifting the buck stops with me, it's as simple as that. We've all seen people with incredible disabilities achieve amazing things, haven't we? And we've all seen people who were born into a fantastic family, had plenty of money, good looks, intelligence to go with it make a complete hash of their lives. Now you see it's not our circumstances that determine the direction of our life. Look at Nelson Mandela, 27 years in prison, look at Mother Teresa amongst the poor, look at Mahatma Ghandi and look at the dozens of very ordinary people that you know in your life who've achieved extraordinary things despite their circumstances. It has nothing to do with our circumstances. Adversity is no excuse. If your life is drifting, it seems to me that you have a couple of options. Option 1 – well just let it drift on by and one day you'll die out there in that drifting boat. Option 2 – is doing something about it; deciding here and now that this status quo, this endless life of drifting is simply no longer an option; that life can't go on like this. It's time to do something about it. It's time for a new start, a new beginning and what better time to come to that conclusion than at the beginning of a new year. My friend, if your life is drifting the buck stops with you and it's time to do something about it. The alternative … well, the alternative is getting to the end of your days here on this earth and looking back at a life-long missed opportunity. That's not such a happy thought, is it? And let's just take this one step further. You may remember the parable of talents that Jesus told of the three servants, each left with a huge amount of money by their master to invest in order to get a return. Two of those servants did really well. On the master's return they gave him the original capital plus a 100% return and those guys got a huge pat on the back. But one of the servants was afraid so he hid the money to keep it safe. He returned the original capital to his master when he came home but without any dividend. Now you might think, well the master should be happy, at least he got his capital back. But listen to what Jesus says in Matthew Chapter 15 beginning at verse 26: You wicked and lazy slave, you knew, did you, that I reap what I didn't sow and gather where I didn't scatter, then you should have invested the money with the bankers and on my return I would have received what is mine with interest. So take the money from him and give it to the one who has lots of money, for to all those who have more will be given and they'll have abundance but from those who have nothing even what they have will be taken away. As for this worthless slave, throw him into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Jesus doesn't mince His words, does He? He's made a huge investment in our lives and He expects us to live our lives in such a way as to deliver a huge return. He's not calling us to live a life of missed opportunities and excuses; He's calling us to live a life that counts. No ‘ifs', no ‘buts', no ‘maybes'.   YOU CAN'T JUGGLE CHAINSAWS Have you ever tried to juggle two balls – easy; three – not so easy; four – well that's impossible for most of us. Now imagine juggling four chainsaws with their blades spinning around – now that's scary. So why do some people try to live their lives like that. So let me ask you, are you one of those crazy people who are trying to juggle four chainsaws with your bare hands? Is that how you're living your life? You may be wondering, “What on earth is Berni talking about?” Well this week on the program we've kicked off a series of messages that I've called ‘The Art of Living' because as we look forward to the year ahead, one of things that a few people need to get sorted out is how they're living their lives. And before the break, just to recap if you missed it, we were chatting about the fact that many a person's life is just drifting aimlessly, like a boat on an ocean without the sails up, without the rudder in the water. Now we can sit back and whinge and complain; we can wish that things were different or that things were better; we can blame other people; we can expect others to do it all for us, including God, but at the end of the day a whole bunch of this is up to us. Sometimes the reason that we are not happy with life is that we have a wrong self-image. The hurts and disappointments of the past have put like a negative spin on our outlook, on how we see ourselves. Some people live their whole lives under this sort of oppression. Sometimes the people around us or the social structures tell us that this where you fit; this is the box you belong and that's it. And yet all along you have this potential, this creativity, this dream that's not being realised. Some people are just plain in the wrong job. There are so many jobs on this earth given who I am, given how God made me, that I simply am not suited to; I could never make a good accountant. You would never want me as a personal carer of the elderly. There are so many things that I can do, but there are plenty that I can't. See, some people spend their whole lives doing a job they were never cut out to do, a job that they don't enjoy and a job they are never going to be any good at. And we've seen so far today on the program that for some people it's the relationship that's robbing them of the joy and contentment in their lives. For others it comes down to their finances and resources and what I want you to do is to really think about your life strategically, beyond the symptoms and right down to the root causes, because it's when we deal with the root causes that we can begin to think about what we can actually do to make the thing better. That's how a doctor works. Hopefully the doctor doesn't just give you a painkiller for a persistent headache. They use the technology available to them to figure if there is something more sinister going on beneath the surface that they need to treat. And I continue to encourage you to do that in your life. As you look at the year ahead, what is it that is robbing you of the satisfaction and contentment that you're really looking for? And what are you going to do about it? Today I want to talk briefly about focus because for many people there is no doubt a raft of issues that are robbing them of the life they want to live. Perhaps the things going on your life are all kind of mixed up together in a way. You have low self-esteem which leads to problems at work and so you bring those tensions home with you and that in turn leads to arguments with your wife or husband. And that drags the children in because they sense the tension, they hear the arguments so now they're on edge and they resent you and so that brings even more tension which in turn causes you to blame yourself pushing your self-esteem to lower levels. And if any of this seems vaguely familiar, you are not alone. That one scenario plays itself out over and over again in lives and families and workplaces across the globe. But here's the mistake that people often make; listen carefully to this. They try to fix all the problems at once. And that right there is like juggling chainsaws: a) its incredibly difficult; b) its dangerous; and c) you have a very high chance of failure. What is needed is focus, a sharp focus on the one thing that's at the bottom of it all, the one thing that is the root cause; the one thing that you need to get sorted out before you can address all the flow-on impacts. Have a listen to this story from the New Testament of the Bible. Mark Chapter 18 verses 35 to 41: As Jesus approached Jericho a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When He heard the crowd going by he asked what was happening. They told him, ‘Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.' Then he shouted, ‘Jesus! Jesus Son of David have mercy on me.' Now those who were around, they sternly ordered him to be quiet but he shouted even more loudly, ‘Son of David have mercy on me.' Jesus stood still and ordered the man to be brought to Him. And when he came near He asked the man, ‘What do you want Me to do for you?' And the man said, ‘Lord let me see again.' Jesus said to him, ‘Received your sight for your faith has saved you.' And immediately he regained his sight and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people when they saw it praised God. See this man had a lot of problems. If you were blind in the 1st Century that had a lot of flow-on effects. He was poor, he was a beggar, he was isolated, he was unemployed, he was shunned by society, he was probably smelly because he hadn't had a bath. This man had multiple dysfunctions in his life but he knew that the one root cause of it all was his blindness which meant he couldn't go to work. If he could only go to work he could rejoin society, he could earn money, he wouldn't be begging. So when Jesus came along, this Jesus who'd apparently been healing a lot of other people, the one thing that the guy begging by the side of the street focused on was the one thing he needed. That's how it is with us when it gets down to the one thing, the most important thing that He's doing in our lives. And you know, in my experience this Jesus is always ready to oblige. Sometimes it happens quickly and miraculously like it did for the beggar. But other times, most times Jesus address our problems and meets our needs over weeks, and months and years and even over a whole lifetime. Some of the things in my life have been fixed really quickly by Jesus and other things seems to drag on and God uses this experience to teach me this, and that experience to teach me that. It's a remarkable thing, whenever you see Jesus touching people's lives in one of those four gospel accounts of His life and His ministry – Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, take your pick – He always focuses on the one thing that needs doing, the one infirmity that needs healing, the demon that needs casting out, the sin that needs forgiving – just one thing. He doesn't try to get people to juggle chainsaws; He touches them and heals them of that one thing. Let me ask you, are you in that place? Because if you're in that place in your life where the problems and the dysfunctions and the alienations are overwhelming you, everything seems to be against you, everything seems to be not going quite right – here's what I'm going to encourage you to do. Go to Jesus and ask Him to heal just one thing. And if you don't know what needs healing, ask Him. He already knows and He's already there, He's already here waiting to touch you, to heal you, to forgive you, to give you a fresh start in your life. How do I know? Because I'm not teaching you a theory lesson, He's done exactly that in my life, and in fact He still is doing that in my life. And from my own experience, now I know why it is that they call this ‘the Good News'. We have so many problems in our lives – friend, the answer is Jesus.

On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by first-time guest Kiran K. Addala to talk about creating lasting legacies, their four stages, and what legacy means to him. KEY TAKEAWAYS Legacy is about the visionary geniuses of the world who are able to think futuristically, have a positive impact on their community or society, and leave strong impressions in our memories. I was amazed when reading in school to hear people talking really highly about certain people, like Mahatma Ghandi or Winston Churchill, about what they had done and the impact they'd had.   Parenting gives you great purpose in your life, you're doing something for somebody, making a difference. You face a lot of challenges and you need to commit a lot of time to it, but it's invaluable. Legacy doesn't have to be a very long commitment, it could be as simple as doing something in the street to inspire a group of people who may go and imitate it somewhere else.  BEST MOMENTS‘Even the most massive legacy started with one step by one person trying to solve one particular issue'. ‘As an individual, it's very important to continue as a learner. One life is not good enough to become an expert, there's no ending to learning any topic in this world'. ‘The biggest motivation for any individual or corporate is what you're working towards, how you get satisfaction for it, how many people can you influence, what kid of problems can you solve'. ‘You create legacy by shaping people under you who will be able to take up your role and responsibility at some point because they are inspired by you and what you do'. “A man's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild: but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed-seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind. Just as a gardener cultivates his plot, keeping it free from weeds, and growing flowers and fruits which he requires, so may a man tend the garden of his mind, weeding out all the wrong, useless, and impure thoughts, and cultivating toward perfection the flowers and fruits of right, useful and pure thoughts. By pursuing this process, a man sooner or later discovers that he is the master-gardener of his soul, the director of his life.” (James Allen, As a Man Thinketh, 1902).[i] On today's episode #315 and PART 2 of our REVIEW of Wallace D. Wattles The Science of Getting Rich starting with Chapters 4/14/7.  If you look at the image in the show notes, you will see a TABBED and very well-read Science of Getting Rich book. This was the book I sent to Paranormal Researcher, Ryan O'Neill from Scotland, UK over 10 years ago, instructing him to read this book, starting with Chapters 4/14/7[ii] for 90 days. He sent me this image of his book, all these years later, well-read and marked up, and his results (that we cover on our interview with Ryan on EP #203[iii]) are a byproduct of him doing things in this certain way, beginning with Chapter 4, The First Principle in the Science of Getting Rich that we will cover today. Next, we'll move onto chapter 14 on The Impression of Increase that is by far my favorite chapter in this book.  I love watching this principle in action in others, and then learning to practice this myself has been something that I think has given me some depth with my character over the years. We'll move back to Chapter 7 on Gratitude, that ties all these chapters together, before reviewing the other chapters of this book, and coming up with some action steps for implementing these timeless principles in our own lives. If you want a guide, I'll link a YouTube audio version of these SPECIAL chapters 4/14/7) in the show notes for you and if you look in the comment section, someone knew the power of these chapters in this order revealing their awareness when they wrote “thanks for the combination to the safe.” It's these three chapters that Bob Proctor would have EVERYONE study, in this order, and we would even form mastermind groups AFTER each seminar had concluded to ensure we read the book this way.   I'm still in contact with the two others I was assigned to meet with (back in 1999) and we would meet once a week, for 90 days, and read the chapters in this order. Chapters 4, 14 and 7. This practice bound us together for life. Whoever commented that this was “the combination to the safe” got it right. With deep understanding, we read these chapters, word for word, together, once a week, and then discussed how we were implementing the ideas into our life, or not. I remember I was in my late 20s, and I would read this book before the sun had come up, with the others in my group, (over the telephone) and this practice didn't just set me up for that year, but it set me up to Think and Act in this Certain Way, for the rest of my life. When I cover a book on the podcast, taking a Deep Dive like this, I'm doing so because I watched the contents of these book we cover change my own results, and hundreds of others around me, over the years. If you look at the Table of Contents FIRST. There are 17 simple and short chapters in this book that are all about breaking through the mental barriers of success, and that moving from the competitive mind, to the creative mind is integral to our success. How do we do this? We spent the whole Introduction (PART 1) explaining that we must first learn the principles for ourselves, and THEN we extend our hand out to help others. This is the whole idea of this book. It's a simple formula for success, that begins when we “think and act in this certain way.” What is that certain way? This is what we will be diving into with our study of each chapter. Chapter 4: The First Principle in the Science of Getting Rich. Remember this book is all about the syllabus, and how important our thinking is (because there is this thinking stuff from which all things are made…that's everywhere and a thought in this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.” This chapter is about the importance of how we think. If we are going to “think and act” in a certain way, at the most fundamental level, it matters how and what we think about.    This chapter opens up with line 1 saying “thought is the only power that can produce tangible riches from the formless substance.”  We opened up this episode with James Allen's take on this, where he said by thinking in this certain way, we become “the master-gardener of our soul, the director of our life.” Therefore, THE FIRST PRINCIPLE in The Science of Getting Rich is that we must “think” in this certain way. What is this certain way, you ask? I've been thinking about this since I first heard this idea in 1999. I wanted to say “oh yeah, I think in this certain way” and let the high paying positions come to me! But this isn't how it happened for me. It seemed like this principle took me the longest time to actually implement. Knowing and Doing…are poles apart. Here's some clear examples: Person 1:  Drives by a car dealership (I'm going to use this example because it was the first example I heard in 1999). This person looks at the cars on the lot and thinks “oh wow, I love that red car and I'd love to buy it” and they drive off, and start thinking of how they are going to save up to buy this red car they've just seen. They might create a plan, and come back and visit the lot, and sit in the car, and maybe even test drive the car. Got it? We see how PERSON 1 thinks. Person 2: Drives by the car dealership and stops, takes out a notepad, and writes down some numbers. What's he writing you ask? He's taking note of how many cars fit on that specific lot, because he's thinking “how can I buy this lot?” He writes down 50 cars, and he's thinking about other ideas like, is there another lot nearby that I could buy if I eventually outgrow this lot? They write down some other things like “how much money can I also make from advertising” since there is a sign out front, and then they write down a number guessing at the cost of the land. WHAT TYPE OF THINKER ARE YOU? Can you see two distinct ways to think? How would YOU think if you drove past a car dealership today?  Are you PERSON 1 or PERSON 2? I know without a shadow of a doubt that I'm PERSON 1 and to get the details for PERSON 2, I had to ask someone who thinks in this way. Let me put some faces to two different types of thinkers who we've mentioned before on this podcast. DID YOU KNOW THAT: Walt Disney (who is kind of like Person 2 in our car dealership example) took his good friend Art Linkletter[iv] (a Canadian born radio and television personality) who surely had vision but his vision was different than Art's). Walt took Art to an open field near Orange County, California and pointed to the land and then told Linkletter of his vision for building a park for children. I talked about this with Dr. John Medina all the way back on EP #42[v] and I asked Dr. Medina about this and oddly enough, Dr. Medina said that he has a large poster of Walt Disney hanging up in his office. It was from a time when there was only one theme park (Disneyland which came first in Anaheim, CA in 1955). Disney World near Orlando hadn't been built yet (it opened in 1971) and it was a photo of a big swamp with Cinderella's Castle in the background. You see Walt Disney with an entrepreneurial grin, and the caption on the poster says “It's kinda fun, to do the impossible.” How Do You Change Your Way of Thinking? Isn't this the point of why we all listen to podcasts in the first place? We are looking for new ideas or ways of thinking. Something to give us a different result, when we do something in a different way. This is how we change our PARADIGMS and it takes time. This doesn't happen overnight. We also were not taught “how to think in this certain way” in school. We have to learn to live from “inside” our minds first, and I can tell you that I've been working on this way of thinking for over 25 years, and the more I learn, the more I realize I know so very little. It's a lifetime process, and involves dedication, time, effort and hard work. This is one of the main reasons why I host this podcast. Each week, as I release something that you the listener downloads, it also helps me and those close to me, since I'm getting a refresher as I'm writing each episode, and thinking of ways that we can ALL put what we are learning into practice. This is also why I chose the 6 Social and Emotional Learning Competencies to focus on for this podcast.  It appears that Self-Awareness is the key to making any change in our lives. We've got to first of all “know thyself” before we can “change thyself.” SELF-AWARENESS and THE 7 LEVELS OF AWARENESS We covered this concept in depth in Sept. 2022 when we first started our review of our past episodes with the goal of building a stronger 2.0 version of ourselves. On EP #247 we dove deep into our interview with Greg Link, who intentionally created a legacy by reading a book a week.  Since “95% of the decisions we make take place in the subconscious mind” (Deane Alban) it's crucial for our future results that we keep tending to the “garden of our mind” with continual study. This practice will keep us moving up the 7 Level of Awareness. We all begin at the same level, but it's our ability to “think” that moves us up these 7 Levels, away from following what everyone else is doing (STEP 2), to aspiration (STEP 3) where we “think” we are doing something (we aspire to  BE/DO or HAVE more in our lives) but we must keep moving forward for REAL change to occur. At STEP 4 we step out and take action on idea (we actually DO something), which brings us to STEP 5 since we will need to apply DISCIPLINE to stay in the game. Over time, STEP 6 we gain experience, that eventually leads us to STEP 7 Mastery. Going through these 7 Levels of Awareness requires that we THINK and ACT in a certain way, which is what Chapter 4 of The Science of Getting Rich is all about. If you look at the graphic of these 7 Levels of Awareness, it was in Chapter 4 that Bob Proctor would cover these. At the very top of this worksheet is the quote “to look on the appearance of poverty will produce corresponding forms in your own mind.” (Wallace D. Wattles). THINKING TRUTH REGARDLESS OF APPEARANCES So to THINK and ACT in a CERTAIN way, requires that we “THINK truth regardless of appearances.” (page 58, Ch 4, Science of Getting Rich) Wallace Wattles tells us in this chapter. I could talk about this concept for weeks, because I have honestly been thinking about this since 1999. We all have the ability to “think” we have already concluded, but some people “think” differently, or in a certain way, leading them to different results. I told you that I was not always someone who had prosperity thinking. How could I when I was raised to be careful with money, since it was scarce, and had to stretch far. Thinking there is enough (or even abundance) was a complete stretch for me, but over time, and many years, my paradigms about money have changed. HOW DO WE CHANGE OUR PROGRAMMING FROM POVERTY CONSCIOUSNESS TO PROSPERITY? The key is in this chapter. We need to be able to “think truth” (that there is an abundance of what we need) “regardless of appearances” (or what we can see with our eyes). I remember reading this passage thousands of times in our study, in those early days, because this one took us all, a very long time to grasp. My bank account is empty but you mean I should think there's money in it? There's no food in the fridge but you mean I should think food will come? They come when you learn to THINK AND ACT in this certain way. This isn't easy. I know and I remember. I remember when I first moved to the US (and I'm fully aware that we are not supposed to dwell on difficult times according to this book, but I will need to mention where I came from for you, the listener to understand). I came with an empty bank account, but a vision for what I would be doing. Of course the vision for what I wanted to do would take time, and we ALL start out in the same place which is LEVEL 1 on the 7 LEVELS of AWARENESS. I remember running out of gas as my car was going up a hill, and I had to pray the car would start again as the road evened out so I could get to a gas station and fill up the car. I also remember that I had $20 in my bank account to spend on gas, so the idea of “thinking truth” that there was enough money to cover what I need was a far stretch. But I did it, because I had no other option. I thought “truth regardless of appearance” and slowly, over time learned to THINK AND ACT in this certain way. In those early days I worked as a nanny at local resorts in Arizona, and I remember walking around beautiful resorts would help my ability to “think” in this certain way. You can't just “think” and not take action, so I worked hard, and looking back now, I had plenty of food in my fridge (always-it helped to shop at Costco where I could buy certain things in bulk), and was able to pay ALL of my bills. I used to line up the largest ones first in order on my desk, and when I had earned enough money to pay them, I moved onto the smaller, easier ones. Eventually life became easier, as I worked Chapter 13, Getting into the Right Business, but I did it all one step at a time, and followed these principles, believing that if I were to THINK AND ACT in this certain way (which we know is prosperity thinking, that there would always be enough) and this required me to “think truth regardless of appearances” since I didn't have money in my bank account at that time, but I'm sure we can all remember lean times like I'm talking about. We all experience them. I just want to show you how I turned it all around in my life, and it was a process, that occurred with time, but maybe if you are where I was right now, it might help you to think and act in a different way, to shorten the amount of time that you are here. The focus of this entire book is to expand our awareness, and open up the keyhole (or kick in the door) to reveal new possibilities on the other side. PUTTING CHAPTER 4 INTO ACTION: So how do we change our thinking and learn to “think truth (that there's abundance) regardless of appearances (when there is not)? I can only say that this chapter takes time. There is no way that anyone would have been able to convince me that my empty bank account would one day have plenty of money in it, (when I was down to my last $16 that would fill up my car with gas to get me home), or that I would have been able to see that paying my monthly bills (from working as a nanny) would be possible until I found a better way. I wouldn't have believed it unless I had actually lived it. Now, it's important for me to share this knowledge, so that others can do the same. I learned from being a parent that this skill must be taught, and there is a fine line here as we do not want to raise our children to be pretentious, immodest or assuming in life. We want our children to be outward focused, humble, modest and polite. It took me years to change my mindset (from poverty consciousness-that there is not enough to cover what I need to prosperity (that I have enough) expanding my level of awareness in this process. So How Do We Change Our Money Mindset? The late Doug Wead, presidential advisor, said it best when he said “We are not limited by money, but rather by the poverty of our own dreams.” Open up our minds to abundant thinking versus poverty. Here's how I took the FIRST Principle in The Science of Getting Rich, and began to teach this to my own children. The first time I heard one of my girls talking about money in terms of “what if we don't have enough” I knew it was time to put some focus on the timeless principles in this book. Here's what I would suggest to expand anyone's level of awareness around money. STEP 1: Know money looks and feels like. When you can't see or feel money, like when I only had $20 left in my bank account, it's hard to imagine there being an abundance of it. This is something I notice happens EVERY TIME I play Monopoly. This game is really about prosperity thinking and putting it in action. No one wants to play this game with me because I win this game every time. We must learn to Think and Act in a Certain way in REAL life, as well as in board games. It's really the same idea.  This again takes time and practice. None of these steps are going to quickly change your money mindset. Play Monopoly like you would play “your life” and watch what happens. You'll have more money than you know what to do with, and then you can share your wealth with others. In the beginning of the game, we all start out with the same amount of money, but the decisions we make throughout the game will determine who is able to earn more, and eventually wins the game, as they create an abundance. At the beginning of a Monopoly game, I've trained myself “to think truth regardless of appearances” I can “see” a vision of all the property I will buy (Park Place and Boardwalk will win the game for you) by earning you the rent from everyone who lands on the spaces you will buy and own. This concept became much more interesting when money became available in cryptocurrency, showing us that money can exist outside of physical bills or coins. We can NOW pay for things electronically, quickly sending money to people and vendors via systems like Zell, or PayPal. What we “think” of money in 2023 is much different than 50 years ago, but the concept is the same. It's an exchange for service rendered, and once you know what it looks like (whether it's physical bills, or a number in an account) it's much easier to be able to see it in your possession. STEP 2: Know how to earn money.  I love the quote “never stand begging for that which you have the power to earn” by Miguel de Cervantes.  When times were difficult in my 20s, I figured out how to earn the money I needed to live the life I wanted, from cleaning houses and working as a nanny. Using this experience, I now instill the idea of “working” for money with our children by giving them money for things they can do to help around the house, or with their skills and talents. If they can help me to solve a computer issue, or something technology based (where their level of thinking far surpasses mine) I will pay them for their knowledge. This teaches our next generation that when you take the time to study and learn something new, you can earn money for your knowledge. This job in the real world is called Being a Consultant, and can earn someone money in addition to whatever job they choose to spend their days doing. This is where the concept of earning income from multiple sources comes in, that we will cover in more depth in Chapter 6 How Riches Come to You. This concept that money circulates helps anyone to see how they can work for it, and rightfully have it. STEP 3: Know how to THINK TRUTH regardless of APPEARANCES. Remember that “every man has the natural and inherent power to think what he wants to think, but it requires far more effort to do so than it does to think the thoughts which are suggested by appearances.” I don't know WHEN this principle switched in my head, and I began living it, but I do remember it being “laborious” and it required “the expenditure of more power than any other work” (Wattles, Chapter 4) than I've ever had to perform. To think according to appearances is easy.  My bank account has $20 left, my fridge is empty, or I have no sales in my pipeline. It's easy to look at these things and think this is the way it's going to be. OR, we can implement this first timeless principle and create something else (first of all on the screen of your mind) and then second with action that you will take. Stop for a minute and look around. The clothes you are wearing were created in someone's mind FIRST, before they created the pattern and manufactured them. The car you are driving came first into the mind of Henry Ford, or if you are driving a Tesla, the mind of Elon Musk. Once you've learned to do this, you can relate to Walt Disney's entrepreneurial grin, as you begin to turn the impossible, into reality. REVIEW AND CONCLUSION To review and conclude PART 2 of our Deep Dive of Wallace D. Wattles' The Science of Getting Rich, we covered Chapter 4, and the first principle of learning to think and act in a certain way, and that's with prosperity thinking versus poverty thinking. Since “thought is the only power that can produce tangible riches from the formless substance” it matters what we think about. We looked at the importance of being able to Think Truth, regardless of appearance, even if this is the hardest work in the world. I gave the example of being able to think beyond what money I had in my bank account, and this concept can also be practiced with our health. Not at all to say we “think ” ourselves to health, but if we can learn to think and see ourselves as healthy, it's the first step towards using our mind (instead of the outside world) to create and shape our results. As we covered in PART 1 of our review, the message within the pages of The Science of Getting Rich is NOT to obtain money for ourselves, but to spend “money in meaningful ways—especially when it's used to benefit others” (Chapter 1 Neurowisdom, Waldman and Manning) and this is known to increase our satisfaction in life. As we are going through these chapters, my goal is to show us not how we can be good little go-getters, but how we use these principles to help ourselves first, and then, how to use them to benefit others. This is the true meaning behind The Science of Getting Rich and we will go deeper into taking the focus off ourselves on our next episode with Chapter 14, The Impression of Increase. Until then, I hope that you review how to change your money mindset, to improve your thinking first, and then help others you interact with. STEP 1: Know money looks and feels like. It's a different world in 2023 now that we have BitCoin and Cryptocurrency, but for this step, I like to grab a stack of bills (real or fake) and just know what it “feels like” to hold what I would consider to be “a lot” of money. The more I have practiced this concept, the easier it is for me to expand my thinking of what's a lot of money to me. In my late 20s, when I was running out of gas, $20 was a lot of money. With experience, my number has changed, but this is the key, to always be opening up the doorway and expanding where our thinking currently sits. Whatever you think is “a lot of money” see how it feels to put that amount in your wallet. Carry it around for a while. Before you know it, your amount will change, and you'll have expanded your thinking around money.  I saw an incredible example of this on Instagram with Grant Cardone who was teaching his children this concept with a game where he blind-folded his kids who were fishing for hundred dollar bills in a money-mindset game. I know that whatever money was “raised” with this game went to charity, but I know it also would have changed the money mindset of those kids. They will never look at a $100 bill the same way after seeing many of them on the table. There was plenty of them, and enough for all of them to gather them up, and give back to others. IMAGE CREDIT: Grant Cardone on Instagram  STEP 2: Know how to earn money. We will cover this one in more depth throughout this book study, but once we can see that money is an exchange for services rendered, we can open up to what services we can provide to help other people, that they would pay for. I remember paying a young high school kid (who was 17 at the time) how to code my first website. It was faster for me to work with him after school than it would have been for me to learn how to do this on my own, and this young man earned plenty of money with his knowledge and talents. STEP 3: Know how to THINK TRUTH regardless of APPEARANCES.  This is the hardest part of implementing this chapter, especially if you are where I was when my car ran out of gas. I had to go home, go to sleep and think “tomorrow is a new day” and that tomorrow I had the ability to create something new, something that only existed on the screen of my mind. And when tomorrow came, I always found work that I could do, that filled my bank account back up, (one check at a time) and kept me going. I remember at this specific time I was working as a nanny at a local resort in Arizona, and this was the BEST place for me to work on improving my money consciousness. I would walk around the resort, and see abundance everywhere. I would think “one day, I will have my own family and I'll bring them to a resort like this, and I'll relax in the lawn chairs and think of ways I can give back to others once I've done it myself.” This didn't happen right away. I had to master how to THINK TRUTH regardless of APPEARANCES first, and then had to get to work on what we will cover next week, The Impression of Increase. The Science of Getting Rich is a process. It is scientific and mathematical. It matters what we THINK about. With that thought, I'll close out PART 2 of our Deep Dive of Chapter 4 of The Science of Getting Rich, and will see you next week, with Chapter 14 on The Impression of Increase.   REFERENCES:   [i] As a Man Thinketh, by James Allen, 1902 https://www.amazon.com/As-Man-Thinketh-James-Allen/dp/1503055361   [ii] The Science of Getting Rich Chapters 4/14/7 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPBdjiFBrJg   [iii]Neuroscience Meets SEL Podcast EPISODE #203 with Paranormal Researcher Ryan O'Neill https://andreasamadi.podbean.com/e/case-study-with-paranormal-researcher-ryan-o-neill-on-making-your-vision-a-reality/   [iv] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Linkletter   [v] Neuroscience Meets SEL Podcast EPISODE #42 with Dr. John Medina https://andreasamadi.podbean.com/e/dr-john-medina-on-implementing-brain-rules-in-the-schools-and-workplaces-of-the-future/

Dr. Mariana Bozesan is an author, award winning integral investor, serial tech entrepreneur and member of the renowned Club of Rome. I had a lengthy, philosophical and at times even argumentative conversation with Mariana in her Munich home, in a room filled to the brim with books and more books as well as big portraits of Mahatma Ghandi and Albert Einstein. We had the type of conversation I want to have much more on the podcast: different angles and opinions, friendly discourse, revelations, thought provoking, horizon widening and possibly open ended. Where we are allowed to agree to disagree while having conversations which are conducted with laughter and respect for one another while also being able to say: "I would like to challenge you on this point:" - after one has voiced their opinion or made an argument. After all, we are all the sum of our upbringing, environment, belief systems and many different influences and to stay open minded and keep learning is what makes tolerant and expanding minds. Mariana for one is in the unique position to have experienced not just wealth and prosperity as well as scarcity to the pint of going to school without food. She has also lived under the influence of two economics systems: Capitalism and Communism Growing up in communist Romania has inspired Mariana to work hard and make the most of the free education she was offered there. Mariana has a passion for empowering others to realize their ambitions relating to creating a positive impact. She is a big believer in uplifting one another and searching for solutions to deal with the many crisis we are faced with, based on science. She wants to help point out the many things that are right with this world instead of highlighting all the wrongs in order to promote a sense of purpose and direction. She shares with us her journey to fulfilling her personal needs to the point where she felt she was able and inspired to help fulfill others needs as well and talks about the schizophrenia she sees in the system that forces us to choose between profit and non-profit and how she detests the concept of "giving back" to people in questionable ways through foundations that give 5 % of the money made to their cause and invest the rest on Wall Street

Are you the kind of person who does the trash talking when playing sports or games or are you the person who gets trash talked to? Can you guess which one I am? Mahatma Ghandi said “Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I shall have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it, even if I may not have it at the beginning.” Satan is the most experienced and most successful trash talker! Perhaps you've said it or thought it, "I want to change the world!" But then you start comparing yourself to others who have changed the world; the Mahatma Ghandi's, the Martin Luther King's, the Rosa Park's or Greta Thunberg's, and you think I do not have the resources to change the world. I'm not rich. I'm not famous. But what if could change A world. One person, everyday, who then, because of you, go out and try to change a world, too. Sooner rather than later, you could be making a HUGE impact in the world. That's the question I posed to my guest Lisa Dimino White, renowned author, public speaker and Life Coach. Together we go through what it would look like to change, maybe not THE world, but A world, daily.

On this Episode I share my thoughts about habits, how they make or break us.What is a habit?A routine or behavior performed regularly and, in many cases, automatically. So really, it's those things that we do all the time many times without thinking about it. We do it with our posture (stand a certain way and don't realize we do it), we do it with our thoughts and what we think about the world ourselves and we do all this stuff without even realizing that we are doing it.For example, If I told you right now that you are beautiful or for the sake of making it gender balanced, if I said you, are Good Looking. What is your habitual response to that statement? Think about how you would normally respond. Would that statement trigger thoughts of believing you are beautiful or good looking, or would you habitually think otherwise? Whatever your honest response or behavior is toward that statement will shine a light on what you habitually think about yourself and show you what your actions are toward that statement and ultimately what your habit is regarding your view of yourself. Why should we attend to Our Habits?I like these quote “Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” Lau TZU or Mahatma Ghandi. I am more interested in highlighting not only the wisdom in it but also the effect Habits have on what we are todayHabits determine your character and Character determines whether you achieve your goals or not.For Example It takes the character of consistency and perseverance to reach any goal.Consistency and Perseverance are character qualities that are a result of habits including not giving up, habits of pushing through difficulty and the list goes on and on. Why should we pay attention to our habits? they make us what we are. If you and I do not like what we are, we must look at our habits, what we do regularly without thinking about it.Okay Habits are Important, how do I build good Ones, How to I break Bad Ones? Some of the Leading books on Habits are the book atomic habits by James Clear and 7 Habits of highly effective people by Steven Covey. In Atomic HabitsThe summary on Atomic Habits focuses on.1.The word Atomic: For those like me that didn't enjoy chemistry, I will remind you that an Atom is the smallest unit of matter. So, in trying to change, break or to build a habit, start small, do it with small seemingly useless, mundane, boring actions/ habits.Because James Clear says, changes that seem small and unimportant at first will turn into remarkable results if you and I are willing to stick with them for years.Habits are so powerful that apparently if you and I Pay attention to just the habits the goals will take care of themselves. So Start small (Atomic) and cut yourself slack when you fail but keep trying growth and goals will be achieved2.Last thought before I leave you; In the beginning we said Habits happen almost automatically to the point that you almost don't think about them when you do them. Imagine a life where the 7 habits of highly effective people by Steve Covey are habits you and I do without thinking about like oh Kiima is habitually proactive, begins with the end in mind, Puts First things first, Thinks Win win, seeks first to understand than to be understood and all that just happens in auto pilot in your life?!! Inevitably the fruit of those habits will produce a life of meaning to you and I and those around us.The Moral of the podcast is we need to watch our habits, they define our character and what people say and know about us and our character determines our destiny.

Lead-in Almost no one understands suicide very well.  Almost no one.   Some of you might say -- but Dr. Peter, I've been really down and out.  I've been really suicidal.  I've been there.  I lived it.   Not gonna argue with you about having been suicidal. But having intense feelings, almost irresistible impulses toward suicide, constant suicidal thoughts  -- that doesn't mean you understand suicide.  Not at all. I don't think most people who have attempted suicide really understand their experience.   I don't think most therapists really understand suicide.     Why ?  Because we're afraid to really enter into what is behind suicide.  We don't want to go there.  We're terrified of what lurks underneath.  We have parts of us that don't want to understand.   Lauren Oliver, Delirium “Suicide. A sideways word, a word that people whisper and mutter and cough: a word that must be squeezed out behind cupped palms or murmured behind closed doors. It was only in dreams that I heard the word shouted, screamed." And I'll go further than that.  And it's not so much because we're afraid of what we'll find in another person, a friend or relative or colleague.  It's because we are terrified that finding the darkness inside of others will wake up our own sleeping giants of darkness.  The darkness inside us.  The terror inside us.  That's why we avoid, why we distract, why we skirt the edges of this topic.  Benjamin Franklin knew this:  Nine men in ten are would-be suicides   -Poor Richard's Almanack.   Freud popularized it in 1920 -- book the Pleasure Principle.   -- he discussed the death drive: the drive toward death and destruction, often expressed through behaviors such as aggression, repetition compulsion, and self-destructiveness.  Death drive or drives went by the name Thanatos -- the Greek god personified death. Caught a lot of flak for it, then and now.  Not really widely accepted.  I think he was on to something.  Something we don't want to think about others -- that they have drives toward self-destruction.  It's something that we don't want to admit about ourselves.   If we are really honest with ourselves in looking at suicide we would realize, with John Bradford There but for the grace of God go I. We would give up our false presumptions about our own strength and our own natural resiliency.   We would realize, with Shakespeare's Lord Chancellor in Henry VIII “We all are men, in our own natures frail, and capable of our flesh; few are angels.” ― Lord Chancellor William Shakespeare, Henry VIII  We would understand Mahatma Ghandi when he said: “If I had no sense of humor, I would long ago have committed suicide.”  We would have a lot less judgement about the souls and experience of those who killed themselves.  Yes, the action of suicide is wrong, gravely wrong, and we'll discuss that in next week's episode.  We're not minimizing the gravity of the act -- I'm talking here about the phenomenological experience of those on the brink of self-destruction and why they are there.   And we would understand something about the spiritual dimensions, the dark spiritual powers at work in suicide as well.    I could be wrong about this, but I don't think you really have any accurate idea about suicide.  Suicide is one of the most misunderstood of human actions.   Because we want to avoid the churning darkness, the despair, the hopelessness, the alienation, the trauma within us, we don't want to see it in others.  And if someone near is suicidal, we know, we know instinctively that he is tapping into his despair, his hopelessness, his alienation.  We know that our suicidal is really in the grip of her trauma and her isolation, and her excruciating pain.   And our natural response -- is to flee.  To get out of dodge.  To protect ourselves.  We rationalize it -- I'm not a professional, I'm not a counselor, I don't know what to do with all of this intensity Or we stay in there, we force ourselves to stay in relationship, feeling really inadequate, not wanting to go too deep, not wanting to screw it up -- and in our timidity and fear, we actually aren't very helpful.  OK --  I will grant you that you don't really know what to do.   And I get it that you're afraid -- maybe terrified.  OK.   This is a tough issue.  Suicide is a tough issue.  And tough issues are what we specialize in here.  [Cue music] Intro Welcome to the podcast Interior Integration for Catholics, thank you for being here with me, thank you for making it through the lead in and not fleeing from this episode.  I'm glad you and I are in this together.  And it's going to be OK.  By God's grace, together we can handle, we can work with, we can work through this topic of suicide.  We'll do it together.   I am clinical psychological Peter Malinoski and you are listening to the Interior Integration for Catholics podcast, where we take on the toughest topics, the ones others don't want to touch, and we go really deep with them.  Why?  Not out of some kind of idle curiosity.  Not out of disorder curiosity, out of some kind of psychological voyeurism.  No.  We go there in this podcast because we are working on ourselves.  On our own human formation, shoring up the natural foundation for our spiritual lives, so that we can enter into loving union with God.  That's why.  It's about removing the psychological barriers you have to a much deeper intimacy with God the Father, Jesus the Son, the Holy Spirit, and the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother.  In the last episode we looked at specific cases of suicide in Sacred Scripture.  This is episode number 78, released on July 26, 2021, entitled The Desperate Inner Experience of Suicidality.  We are going to enter into the phenomenological world of the suicidal person.   Why?  Why do we do that?  Why do that? Two answers.  The second answer is for going into all of this depth on suicide is so that you and I can love.  So that we can love others who are struggling with this -- and there are so many.   Franklin estimated 90%.  Nine men in ten are would-be suicides.  I think he's right, even though the vast majority of those don't even know there's a struggle going on inside them.  I think Benjamin Franklin knew about the latent potential in most people. Freud:  Thanatos.  The Death Drives.  Freud knew.  For all his faults and follies, Freud knew something about the depth of pain in people's souls.  The pain that lives in the unconscious.  Locked away, at least for a time.  Unnoticed, at least for a time.   The first answer:  Is so that we can be known and loved.  That we can accept others knowing us, and us knowing ourselves.   1 John 4:19  We love, because he first loved us.   He first loved us.  We need to let God love us.  We need to let our Lady, our Mother love us In our woundedness.  In our suffering.  In our shame, in our pain, in our fear, in our sadness, however our darkness is for us.  Whatever our darkness is.   Isaiah 9:2  The people that walked in darkness, have seen a great light: to them that dwelt in the region of the shadow of death, light is risen. Not just about the external world, but also our internal world.   The Pain Caveats -- Difficult topic.  “The pain of severe depression is quite unimaginable to those who have not suffered it, and it kills in many instances because its anguish can no longer be borne. The prevention of many suicides will continue to be hindered until there is a general awareness of the nature of this pain.”― William Styron, Darkness Visible: A Memoir of Madness  “Nobody has ever killed themselves over a broken arm. But every day, thousands of people kill themselves because of a broken heart. Why? Because emotional pain hurts much worse than physical pain.”        ― Oliver Markus Malloy, Bad Choices Make Good Stories   “When people are suicidal, their thinking is paralyzed, their options appear spare or nonexistent, their mood is despairing, and hopelessness permeates their entire mental domain. The future cannot be separated from the present, and the present is painful beyond solace. ‘This is my last experiment,' wrote a young chemist in his suicide note. ‘If there is any eternal torment worse than mine I'll have to be shown.” ― Kay Redfield Jamison, Night Falls Fast: Understanding Suicide  ““Suicidal pain includes the feeling that one has lost all capacity to effect emotional change. The agony is excruciating and looks as if it will never end. There is the feeling of having been beaten down for a very long time. There are feelings of agitation, emptiness, and incoherence. 'Snap out of it and get on with your life,' sounds like a demand to high jump ten feet.”        ― David L. Conroy, Out of the Nightmare: Recovery from Depression and Suicidal Pain  Suicide is best understood not so much as a movement toward death as it is a movement away from something and that something is always the same: intolerable emotion, unendurable pain, or unacceptable anguish.  Maurizio Pompili & Roberto Tatarelli Parts and Suicide So helpful to think of suicide in terms of parts.   A phenomenon that a number of people have noted while in deep depression is the sense of being accompanied by a second self — a wraithlike observer who, not sharing the dementia of his double, is able to watch with dispassionate curiosity as his companion struggles against the oncoming disaster, or decides to embrace it. There is a theatrical quality about all this, and during the next several days, as I went about stolidly preparing for extinction, I couldn't shake off a sense of melodrama — a melodrama in which I, the victim-to-be of self-murder, was both the solitary actor and lone member of the audience.”   ― William Styron, Darkness Visible: A Memoir of Madness  Definition of Parts:  Separate, independently operating personalities within us, each with own unique prominent needs, roles in our lives, emotions, body sensations, guiding beliefs and assumptions, typical thoughts, intentions, desires, attitudes, impulses, interpersonal style, and world view.  Each part also has an image of God and also its own approach to sexuality.  Robert Falconer calls them insiders.   Each part has Personality style   Needs -- Episode 62 Attachment needs  Integrity needs   Emotions  Body sensation.   Belief.   Thought  Intentions  Desires  Attitudes  Impulses.  Interpersonal style  World view  Often have burdens  Ways of coping Review of Parts Exiles --  most sensitive -- these exiles have been exploited, rejected, abandoned in external relationships They have suffered relational traumas or attachment injuries They hold the painful experiences that have been isolated from conscious awareness to protect the person from being overwhelmed with the intensity. They desperately want to be seen and known, to be safe and secure, to be comforted and soothed, to be cared for and loved They want rescue, redemption, healing And in the intensity of their needs and emotions, they threaten to take over and destabilize the person's whole being, the person's whole system -- they want to take over the raft to be seen and heard, to be known, to be understood.  But they can flood us with the intensity of their experience And that threatens to harm external relationships Burdens they carry:  Shame, dependency, worthlessness, Fear/Terror, Grief/Loss, Loneliness, Neediness, Pain, lack of meaning or purpose, a sense of being unloved and unlovable, inadequate, abandoned Exiles' Role in Suicide Furnishing the intolerable pain.   Exiles bring the intensity. The fuel   Description of the pain of suicide -- Quotes Perhaps everything terrifying is deep down a helpless thing that needs our help,” Rainer Maria Rilke wrote to a friend and protégé, encouraging him to make peace with his inner demons.  “Actually, it was only part of myself I wanted to kill: the part that wanted to kill herself, that dragged me into the suicide debate and made every window, kitchen implement, and subway station a rehearsal for tragedy.”― Susanna Kaysen, Girl, Interrupted 1993 memoir of being in a mental hospital for 18 months in the late 1960s.  Managers These are the proactive protector parts.  They work strategically, with forethought and planning to keep in control of situations and relationships to minimize the likelihood of you being hurt.  They work really hard to keep you safe.  "Never again" attitude toward the exiles.   Very much about reducing risk of overwhelm.   controlling, striving, planning, caretaking, judging,  Can be pessimistic, self-critical, very demanding.   Firefighters When exiles break through and threaten to take over the system, this is terrifying.  The consequences of exile taking over could be disastrous.  So when these exiles are about the break out, the firefighters leap into action.  It's an emergency situation, a crisis, like a fire raging in a house.  Firefighters are focused on rescuing us from a terrible situation.   No concern for niceties, for propriety, for etiquette, for little details like that.   Firefighter take bold, drastic actions to stifle, numb or distract from the intensity of the exile's experiences.  They break down the door and spray water over everything, trying to calm the raging flames.   No concern for consequences -- don't you get it, we are in a crisis,  All kinds of addictions -- alcohol use, binge eating, shopping, sleeping, dieting, excessive working or exercise, suicidal actions, self-harm, violence, dissociation, distractions, obsessions, compulsions, escapes into fantasy, and raging.   Parts can take over the person   Firefighters' role in Suicide  Serious suicidal impulses can be driven by firefighters: Just make the pain of the exiles stop.  Suicidal firefighters are filled with hopelessness -- they don't know of another way to protect you.   They have been beaten down, sometimes literally, always figuratively.   Desperation of firefighters If we could read the secret history of our enemies we should find in each man's life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.  Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.  “In my view, suicide is not really a wish for life to end.'   What is it then?'It is the only way a powerless person can find to make everybody else look away from his shame. The wish is not to die, but to hide.”― Orson Scott Card, Ender's Shadow  “I am constantly torn between killing myself and killing everyone around me.”― David Levithan, Will Grayson, Will Grayson  “The man who kills a man kills a man. The man who kills himself kills all men. As far as he is concerned, he wipes out the world.”― G.K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy  Rapid Shifts among parts The man, who in a fit of melancholy, kills himself today, would have wished to live had he waited a week.  Voltaire  When you're young and healthy you can plan on Monday to commit suicide, and by Wednesday you're laughing again.  Marilyn Monroe  who died of an overdose of barbiturates in 1962 at age 36 -- ruled a probable suicide by the county coroner.  “The Suicide, as she is falling, Illuminated by the moon, Regrets her act, and finds appalling The thought she will be dead so soon.”        ― Edward Gorey  Impulse driven suicide 2015 Study in South Korea -- Clinical Psychopharmacology and Neuroscience   87% of suicide attempts were impulsive  Most common trigger was interpersonal conflict Most common diagnosis was major depression.   Often poorly planned Replicated a previous 2011 in South Korea study where 85% were impulsive 2016 South Korean Study in Psychiatry Investigation  48% of 269 suicide attempters brought to ERs were clearly impulsive, very sudden No Plan  No previous suicidal ideation.  They weren't thinking about it.    Came out of the blue   1997 Study from Sweden 44% of suicide attempts were radically impulsive.   Approach:   Always reassure dangerous firefighters that you do not aim to get rid of them.  Treat them with respect and appreciation; they have only been trying to help.  They are trying to help,  trying to protect you from misery.  If dangerous firefighters think there is an effective alternative, they are often game to try that new way They need to experience hope.  Hope is a necessity for normal life and the major weapon against the suicide impulse. Karl A. Menninger It is critically important to present them other options for safety, that they can be safe without needing suicide.   We will get into how to work with them in the next episode.   Managers' role in suicide Remember, managers are more proactive.   Managers still can be very intense, and also in a lot of pain, but they are not so reactive.   Planned Suicide Suicide seriously considered.  Suicide as a "comforting" option.  Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was a German philosopher, cultural critic, composer, poet, writer, and philologist whose work has exerted a profound influence on modern intellectual history. He began his career as a classical philologist before turning to philosophy.  The thought of suicide is a great consolation: by means of it one gets through many a dark night.” prepared a will, decided upon a method in advance, and planned the date of the attempt.   Repeated suicidal impulses from firefighter can be taken up by managers Or firefighters can take on a more managerial role  And use contemplation of suicide as a role.   Quotes “The thought that I might kill myself formed in my mind coolly as a tree or a flower.” Sylvia Plath American poet, novelist, and short-story writer -- attempted suicide several times by several means.  Succeeded at age 31, after experiencing major depression for most of her adult life.  1963.   “There are people who fantasize about suicide, and paradoxically, these fantasies can be soothing because they usually involve either fantasizing about others' reactions to one's suicide or imagining how death would be a relief from life's travails. In both cases, an aspect of the fantasy is to exert control, either over others' views or toward life's difficulties. The writer A. Alvarez stated, " There people ... for whom the mere idea of suicide is enough; they can continue to function efficiently and even happily provided they know they have their own, specially chosen means of escape always ready..." In her riveting 2008 memoir of bipolar disorder, Manic, Terri Cheney opened the book by stating, "People... don't understand that when you're seriously depressed, suicidal ideation can be the only thing that keeps you alive. Just knowing there's an out--even if it's bloody, even if it's permanent--makes the pain bearable for one more day."  This strategy appears to be effective for some people, but only for a while. Over longer periods, fantasizing about death leaves people more depressed and thus at higher risk for suicide, as Eddie Selby, Mike Amestis, and I recently showed in a study on violent daydreaming. A strategy geared toward increased feelings of self-control (fantasizing about the effects of one's suicide) "works" momentarily, but ultimately backfires by undermining feelings of genuine self-control in the long run.― Thomas Joiner, Myths About Suicide  Like a drug. Battling among Parts “The debate was wearing me out. Once you've posed that question, it won't go away. I think many people kill themselves simply to stop the debate about whether they will or they won't. Anything I thought or did was immediately drawn into the debate. Made a stupid remark—why not kill myself? Missed the bus—better put an end to it all. Even the good got in there. I liked that movie—maybe I shouldn't kill myself.”        ― Susanna Kaysen   If a person with multiple personalities threatens suicide, is that considered a hostage situation?  Comedian Steven Wright   Reasons for Suicide  Suicide is complex Suicide is complex, there's never a single reason why a person contemplates taking their own life, and there are no absolute indicators that a person could be in that state. Steve Crisp   Superficial ones -- see IIC 76 section VII.  Illusory Ones  You didn't love me enough “A lot of you cared, just not enough.” ― Jay Asher, Thirteen Reasons Why -- young adult novel  “Some people are just not meant to be in this world.
