This week, we inaugurate a new guest masochist. Sammy Smart from the Too Scary; Didn't Watch podcast joins us for one of the least scary horror movies to ever exist. Wraith is the story of people hearing creepy sounds in the night and getting up to see what they were. That and a hilariously stupid ending that you can see coming from a runtime away is all this film has to offer. --- Hear more from Sammy on Too Scary; Didn't Watch, or follow the show on Instagram --- If you'd like to make a per episode donation and get monthly bonus episodes, please check us out on Patreon: http://patreon.com/godawful Check out our other shows, The Scathing Atheist, The Skepticrat, Citation Needed, and D&D Minus. The Moon has regular dates with the stars. It returns to the same position relative to the stars every 27 days and eight hours. As an example, the Moon cozied up to Regulus, the bright heart of the lion, on May 5th, and it does so again this evening – 27 days, eight hours later. This encounter is especially close as seen from the United States – the Moon and Regulus will appear to almost touch each other. That time span is known as the lunar sidereal period – “sidereal” meaning “related to the stars.” The planets have their own sidereal periods. Mars, for example, returns to the same point relative to the stars every 22 and a half months. Tonight, Mars is well to the lower right of Regulus, and looks like an orange star. It’ll return to almost the same position in April of 2027. The match won’t be exact because our viewing angle to the Red Planet changes a bit from year to year. The sidereal period is different from the period relative to the Sun – a difference caused by Earth’s own orbital motion. For the Moon, that period lasts 29 and a half days – the length of a cycle of phases. And for Mars, the Sun-related period is almost 26 months. That’s how long it takes Mars to return to the same angle from the Sun – part of the precise but sometimes confusing motions in the night sky. More about the motions of the planets tomorrow. To the more poetic among us, summer is a time of soft breezes, warm nights, and fireflies: The livin’ is easy, the breeze makes us feel fine, the warm Sun shines kindly upon us. But there’s less poetry in the summers on Mars – especially in the northern hemisphere, where summer began on Thursday. It stays cold, and the only fireflies are occasional meteors blazing through the night. Like the seasons on Earth, those on Mars are caused by the planet’s tilt on its axis. Northern summer begins when the north pole dips most directly toward the Sun. But Mars’s orbit is much more lopsided than Earth’s, so there’s a much greater change in the planet’s distance from the Sun. Mars is farthest from the Sun during northern summer. So the summer stays fairly cool. Summers and winters tend to be quiet times in the planet’s thin atmosphere. Big dust storms fire up in spring and fall, sometimes covering the whole planet. But they settle down by the start of summer. Mars does see more “dust devils” during summer – whirlwinds that can tower miles high. Northern summer will last for 178 Mars days – not giving way until the start of autumn exactly six months from now. Mars is close to the upper left of the Moon at nightfall, and looks like a fairly bright orange star. The true star Regulus is farther along that line. More about this lineup tomorrow. In episode 491 astrologers Chris Brennan and Leisa Schaim look at the astrological forecast for June of 2025! We spend the first hour of the episode talking about the astrology of news and events that have occurred since our last forecast, and then in the second hour we transition into talking about the astrology of June, starting at 1 hour and 3 minutes into the episode. June opens with Venus and Mars wrapping up their extended retrograde periods by moving into new signs finally, with Venus moving into her home sign of Taurus and Mars moving into Virgo. A major shift this month is Jupiter moving into Cancer, which is the traditional sign of its exaltation, where it will stay for the next year. There are some tense alignments in the middle of the month, with an explosive Mars-Uranus square around June 15, and restrictive Jupiter-Saturn square going exact on the same day. By the end of the month Saturn has moved within 1 degree of a conjunction with Neptune, making that alignment peak in intensity, blurring the lines between what is real and what is not. The United States plans to send astronauts to the Moon later in this decade, aiming toward a permanent lunar base. But experience shows that plans come and go. In fact, if all the plans for lunar exploration had actually come about, we’d be skittering all across the Moon today. In 1958, for example, the Air Force developed Project LUMAN, a comprehensive plan for human spaceflight. It would culminate with a single astronaut landing on the Moon. Later, the service developed another plan – LUMEX. It called for three astronauts to travel to the Moon using a giant new booster and a streamlined spaceship. The Army developed its own plan, involving a space station and other steps. All of those plans died – in part because human spaceflight was turned over to a new civilian agency: NASA. And NASA had its own false steps. It studied using its two-man Gemini spacecraft for lunar missions before settling on Apollo. And even then, some of its plans were scuttled; the final three Apollo missions were scrapped, in 1970. President George W. Bush proposed lunar missions as part of the Constellation program. It was nixed by President Obama. But some of its hardware has been kept for Artemis – which plans to send astronauts to the Moon in the next few years. Look for the Moon in the west at nightfall. The twin stars of Gemini stand to its lower right, with Mars to its upper left – another planned destination for human explorers. Script by Damond Benningfield

This week we speak with Dr. Mike Wall, ace space reporter from Space.com, about Starship's recent test flight. What went right, what went wrong, and what are the prospects for Elon's mammoth rocket meeting NASA's goals for a moon landing in 2027? Also, Musk's recent video outlining future plans for Starship and a Martian metropolis, Chinese company Sepoch's recent (and very Starship-like) vertical launch and landing test, Japan's robotic lander, Resilience, about to attempt a lunar touchdown, and roadside assistance for the Psyche asteroid mission. See this and more on This Week in Space! Headlines New Dwarf Planet Discovery: Scientists at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton have identified a new dwarf planet with an orbit over 16 times the size of Earth's. Its closest approach to the Sun is 44.5 times Earth's orbit, similar to Pluto's orbit, placing it far out in the Oort cloud. While exciting, this object, named 2017 OF, is not Planet Nine because its mass doesn't align with the perturbations observed in other objects. NASA's Psyche Mission Update: NASA's Psyche spacecraft experienced a fuel pressure glitch requiring a switch to a backup propellant line for its Hall effect thruster. Engineers successfully restored pressure, and the mission is still on track to arrive at the metallic asteroid Psyche in 2029. This mission is crucial as Psyche is believed to be the stripped-away core of an ancient proto-planet, offering insights into planet formation. China's Reusable Rocket Advancements: Chinese rocket manufacturer Space Epoch successfully performed a vertical ascent and controlled vertical descent test of a booster stage, similar to SpaceX's Falcon 9 landings. The stainless steel rocket successfully soft-landed in the waters off Hainan Island, demonstrating advanced gimballing for stable landing. Main Topic - Starship Flight 9 Test Recap: SpaceX's Starship Test Flight 9 was deemed a partial success. The Super Heavy booster was reflown for the first time, demonstrating reusability and performing well despite an experimental hard ocean splashdown that resulted in an explosion six minutes into flight. The Ship upper stage reached space and the desired trajectory, an improvement over previous flights, but failed to deploy dummy Starlink satellites or perform an in-space relight due to an attitude control anomaly, possibly a fuel leak. SpaceX's Ambitious Starship Plans: Elon Musk outlined plans for Starship Version 3, envisioned as the first fully mature version capable of Mars missions, rapid reuse, and in-orbit refueling. The long-term goal includes sending thousands of Starships and hundreds of people to Mars to establish a self-sustaining city. Lunar Starship for Artemis Missions: There's ongoing discussion about the number of tanker flights required for a lunar mission, with estimates ranging from 8 to 12, even 16 flights. The timeline for Artemis III in 2027 is a concern, given the need for numerous refueling missions and the development of life support systems for crewed flights, which are currently absent in the Starship test vehicles. Competition in Lunar Landers: While SpaceX is developing Lunar Starship, Blue Origin is also a strong contender with its Blue Moon lander, which is China These show notes have been truncated due to length. JOIN SHERI HORN HASAN @ FOR THIS WEEK'S ASTROLOGICALLY SPEAKING PODCAST WHICH DROPS MAY 30 @https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speakingThis podcast explores how the recent history between the May 17 Sun/Uranus conjunction & the May 24 Mercury/Uranus conjunction in Taurus, & the May 29/30 superior conjunction of the Sun with Mercury direct in Gemini have awakened us through unexpected sudden revelations--of the “I can see clearly now” kind--between then and now.Awakened us to what? Well, when we look at the symbolism--from the announcement on May 18 of former president Joe Biden's stage 4 prostate cancer to May 22's U.S. House passage of its “friendly to the rich” budget reconciliation bill & May 24's yet again flip flop on tariffs by President Trump—we start to see a pattern. And that pattern, combined with announcements made between May 28-30--including a court ruling banning Trump's on-again-off-again tariffs followed by a swift reversal of that ruling, along with the announcement of pardons for convicted individuals who have donated bigly to Trump--starts to smell like something's rotten in Denmark. What we may have missed the first two Sun & Mercury conjunctions to Uranus in Taurus, that's inherent now in this latest Sun/Mercury get together in Gemini, is the sleight of hand deceit and deception that's been going on all along. This clearly correlate Gemini's archetypal role & reputation as the trickster, who uses more devious ways to fool those around him. What's different now, however, is the fact that deceit usually takes place behind the scenes. But when we equate Biden's sudden announcement on May 18 with the symbolic nature of the currently ongoing U.S. Pluto return, we glean from the symbolism that something that's been hidden for a long time has now become obvious. Since the prostate is archetypally aligned with Pluto's Scorpio, & Biden's illness was reportedly long in the making but unknown to his doctors, this sudden revelation symbolizes how the U.S. has likewise been rotting from the inside out for quite some time & we simply never noticed. Now, however, all of these recent Sun, Mercury, & Uranus aspects in the sky have alerted us to the fact that this current president's grift-- now so commonplace, so boldly out in the open--is so easily accepted by those who could/should call it out for what it is. As the rest of us begin to understand with greater clarity that the emperor truly has NO clothes, we likewise recognize those who benefit from both his grift & his delusions.  So, as we wax into this month's first quarter “crisis in action” lunar square of the Virgo Moon to the Gemini Sun on June 2--accompanied by June 1's Venus/Chiron/Eris conjunction in Aries—we now see the tension between verifiable Virgoan facts & Geminian casual passage of non-verified information. And how much of the latter was behind such “you can't have possibly missed it” glaringly obvious financial transactions by now.Venus moves into its own sign of Taurus June 5/6, depending on your time zone, while Mercury conjoins Jupiter in Gemini June 8. Shortly after, Mercury will enter the Moon-ruled sign of Cancer June 8, & Jupiter follows suit on June 9. Our emotional sensitivity heightened, we then may begin to expand our intuitive capabilities to see beyond our more boundaried local scenario into wider, longer-term implications for the future.Join us for this Astro News You Can Use & more @https://www.karmicevolution.com/astrologically-speaking dropping May 30 as we look ahead also at the upcoming waxing first quarter square of Mars to Uranus & Jupiter to Saturn on June 15, & as we approach the big military presidential birthday bash on June 14. The question is whether there will be some sudden shocks or surprises, given the addition of another Uranus aspect forming, this time with potentially explosive or violent Mars…tune in to find out more!See you then, namaste…

PREVIEW: Colleague Rick Fisher presents the PRC's phased asteroid missions and also reports on the PRC ambition to dominate the solar system with men and machines. More on. august 1953. CLAUSE 4.0: Let me search for more information about China's broader solar system exploration strategy and Rick Fisher's analysis. China's Phased Asteroid Mission Strategy Bottom Line Up Front: China has developed an ambitious multi-phase approach to asteroid exploration and planetary defense, positioning itself as a major space power with systematic missions targeting asteroids, Mars, Jupiter, and potentially the outer solar system through 2050. Current Asteroid Missions (2025-2030) Tianwen-2 (2025): China will launch the Tianwen-2 mission to sample a near-Earth asteroid next year. The mission will first focus on sampling near-Earth asteroid Kamoʻoalewa (2016 HO3). After delivering samples to Earth, the spacecraft will use our planet for a gravitational slingshot maneuver and set it on a course for main-belt comet 311P/PANSTARRS. SpaceNewsSpace Planetary Defense Test (2025-2030): China is planning its first mission to impact an asteroid in the name of planetary defense. The mission will serve a dual purpose: One craft will impact the asteroid while its partner observes the space rock to learn more about the solar system and its formation. SpaceSpace China wants to test changing the orbit of a potentially hazardous asteroid with an impactor spacecraft and also accurately measure how much its orbit is altered. China will launch 2-in-1 asteroid deflection mission in 2025 | Space Expanding Solar System Dominance Strategy Deep Space Exploration Roadmap: China's plans for exploring the outer Solar System are taking shape, with Jupiter's moon Callisto and one of the ice giants the main targets. PlanetarySpaceNews China has unveiled a long-term planetary exploration roadmap for planetary habitability and the search for extraterrestrial life. China to seek out life in the solar system as NASA faces cuts, commercial players expand ambitions - SpaceNews Tianwen-4 Jupiter Mission (2029): Zhu's outline of the mission sees a Tianwen-4 launch in September 2029. The spacecraft will use a flyby of Venus in 2030 plus further gravity assists from Earth in 2031 and 2033, to arrive at Jupiter in December 2035. China's plans for outer Solar System exploration Ice Giant Missions (2035-2050): Zhu provides a potential launch date of 2035 for a Uranus mission, arriving in orbit in 2050. If a Neptune mission is chosen instead, it would launch in 2040 and arrive in 2058. China's plans for outer Solar System exploration Infrastructure and Capabilities Development Planetary Defense Force: China is recruiting for a planetary defense force to combat the threat of asteroids colliding with Earth. The successful candidates will be required to research tasks related to near-Earth asteroid monitoring and early warning systems. Wanted: 3 asteroid watchers for China's 'planetary defense force' Advanced Detection Systems: The "compound eye," a 25-antennae network of radars, is under construction to bounce signals off deep space objects to determine their potential threat to Earth. The project is set to be completed in 2025. China targets its first planetary defense test mission Strategic Implications Rick Fisher, a senior fellow at the International Assessment and Strategy Center, has been analyzing China's space ambitions extensively. Rick Fisher talks about China's growing space ambitions—from the Moon, to Mars, to asteroids. Throughout the program, Rick talked about Chinese space policy, goals, objectives, hardware, all of it, as tools of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and as an implement of the PLA (People's Liberation Army). NTDThespaceshow China's systematic approach includes not just exploration but potential dual-use capabilities, advanced manufacturing in space (including plans for a lunar base by the 2030s Space-Based Solar Power and 21st-Century Geopolitical Competition | RealClearDefense and space-based solar power), and the development of comprehensive planetary defense systems that could have both protective and offensive applications. This represents a coordinated strategy to establish Chinese leadership across the solar system through the combination of scientific exploration, resource utilization, and strategic positioning—what some analysts view as China's bid to become the dominant space power of the 21st century.

We expect losers to win, winners to lose, enemies to have our back, and fools to inform us. How much should politicians follow political consultants and polls? Well, let's consult the numbers with this expert! Like no other president before him, Donald K. Trump feels the pain of jury-convicted celebrity tax-cheats and fraudsters who hate Joe Biden and arrange to give him $1 million or more up front. Poor Elon! The only way Musk would ever get a Starship to Mars is if he took the stick and flew it himself. MAHA! A-ha! “Ah... No” say the different factions of crazy in health nuts. Part 1 The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales by Oliver Sacks Summary"The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales" is a collection of case studies written by neurologist Oliver Sacks. In this book, Sacks presents a series of fascinating and often poignant stories about patients with various neurological disorders. Each case sheds light on the complexities of the human brain and the profound ways in which neurological conditions can affect perception, identity, and behavior. Key Themes and Case Studies:The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat The title case features Dr. P, a music teacher who suffers from visual agnosia, which prevents him from recognizing faces and objects. He confuses his wife with a hat due to his inability to perceive visual cues correctly. This case illustrates the disconnect that can occur between perception and reality. The Lost Mariner This story centers around Jimmie G., a man who is stuck in time, believing it is 1945. Despite being in a care facility in the 1970s, he cannot retain new memories. Sacks explores themes of identity and the importance of memory in constructing the self.To See and Not See This case features a patient who has undergone a surgical procedure to restore vision but struggles to interpret visual information. It raises questions about the relationship between seeing and understanding, emphasizing that vision alone does not guarantee comprehension. The Dog Who Loved Too Much This case recounts the story of a man whose intense attachment to his dog leads to behavioral problems. It explores themes of love, dependence, and the emotional dimensions of neurological conditions.Phantoms Several patients report experiencing sensory phantom limbs after amputations. Sacks delves into the neural underpinnings behind these phenomena and discussions surrounding body image and consciousness. Overall Structure:The book is divided into several sections that group cases thematically, examining aspects like memory, perception, and personal identity. This week, in Episode 248, we bring you a taste of what we experienced at the recent 21 Hats Live event in Ann Arbor, where we did a deep dive into a challenge confronting Mars Chapman, owner of Casey's New Orleans Snowballs, a snowcone business in Austin, Texas. Mars, who is 36, bought the business from his parents and also inherited from them a somewhat laidback approach to ownership. The business has been operating for 29 years, but it has generally run only eight months of the year, which has been enough, thus far, to support a comfortable lifestyle for its owners. But Mars, whose wife, Page, works for a nonprofit and who is pregnant with their first child, has begun to question whether his current approach will be enough to support a family. This is another in our series of 21 Hats Brainstorms—we used to call them Fish Bowls—in which we pair an owner facing a challenge with a group of entrepreneurs eager to help. We ask questions, break into small groups to exchange ideas, and then report back. Sometimes—as I personally experienced at last year's 21 Hats Live event—the comments and suggestions can be challenging, even a little painful to hear. But they're always constructive.

Why do some wounds never fully heal—no matter how much inner work we do? In this transformative episode, psychological astrologer AstroViktor reveals how your birth chart holds the hidden blueprint of your deepest emotional wounds—and your greatest potential for healing. Through the archetype of Chiron, the Wounded Healer, AstroViktor takes us on a soul-level exploration of childhood rejection, subconscious imprints, and the subtle ways we recreate pain through repetition compulsion. This isn't about prediction—it's about power: the power to understand the story behind the pain, the unmet need beneath the pattern, and the purpose encoded in your suffering. Drawing connections between Saturn, the 12th house, archetypes, and asteroids like Nessus and Hygieia, AstroViktor invites us into a richer, deeper view of astrology—one where healing becomes a conscious choice and your chart becomes a sacred map to integration. If you've ever felt stuck in old trauma loops or struggled to accept the parts of yourself shaped by pain, this episode will help you reclaim your story—and your soul. About AstroViktor AstroViktor is an internationally respected psychological astrologer and teacher, known for his extraordinary ability to translate ancient astrological wisdom into practical tools for transformation. With roots in Hungary and a spirit that spans the globe, Viktor’s work blends classical techniques, Jungian psychology, and modern esoteric knowledge into a method that is as precise as it is intuitive. During these productions we try to stick to the original script as closely as possible; in-turn seeking to create modern, yet strangely old fashioned pieces of radio drama… What is the ideal bodyguard? The most ferocious looking? The most efficient killer? Or the most devoted?
