Mazie Hirono, Senator from Hawaii: She’s the only immigrant currently serving in the Senate, and she was the first Asian American woman elected to that office, starting in 2013. She talks about the need for filibuster reform and Supreme Court reform, about the storming of the capitol on January 6, and about her vote on Amy Coney Barrett: “Hell No.” Her new autobiography is Heart of Fire: An Immigrant Daughter’s Story. Also: Bill Gates, the second richest man in the world, has spent the last 20 years giving away his money—through a $50 billion foundation. But who exactly has he been giving that money to? Tim Schwab has some answers—his three reports in The Nation on the Gates Foundation just won this year’s Izzy Award, named after I.F. Stone and awarded by the Park Center for Independent Media at Ithaca College “for outstanding achievement in independent media” during 2020. Plus: We’re still thinking about how Dr. Seuss Enterprises took six of his books out of print because they contained racist drawings. Right-wing media were pushing this story nonstop; according to a recent poll, more Republicans said they’d heard “a lot” about the move to withdraw some Dr. Seuss books than said the same about Biden’s huge Covid-19 relief bill. The watches and wonders are flowing thick and fast, and in this episode, Felix and Andy deep their toes into the latest watches from Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet. But before a surprisingly hot-take-filled recap, Felix has a little interlude with Tim Mosso from WatchBox. Tim and Felix talk superheroes (I mean, has anyone seen Tim and Batman in the same room?) when Tim and Felix pick watches for Marvel and DC's finest. Ever wondered what Wonder Woman would wear? Regular programming continues with new watch chat and Andy revealing why he wouldn't cop a steel Nautilus at retail. Further surprises ensue when Felix goes into bat for the Code 11:59. And they both agree that while Audemars Piguet missed some major opportunities to make their debut Marvel watch (feat. Black Panther) great, watch nerds need to settle a little and remember that it's not all about them. This episode is brought to you by WatchBox, the world's leading platform for buying, selling and trading pre-owned luxury timepieces. Have you ever wondered what sort of watch Batman, Superman, Wolverine, Iron Man and Wonder Woman would wear? Well, wonder no more as Felix and Tim Mosso pick some super watches for these classic comic heroes. Head to thewatchbox.com to look for your next watch. Gates and Tim Morse's Yesstories Produced by Jeffrey Crecelius, Wayne Hall, Preston Frazier, Bill Govier and VR Hoisington This week we have a slightly different format to the episode. Mark and I enjoyed listening to three different live versions of Gates of Derilium a few weeks ago but we didn’t get around to posting our thoughts - so that’s what you’ll hear first. Then, we did a great interview with Yes book author, Tim Morse, this week for the Patreon community and I wanted to include some of that here because Tim once collaborated with Jon Anderson and also recently released his third solo album so there’s plenty to learn about him. So I’ve clipped out a few parts of our conversation to play here and if you want to see the complete video of our chat, complete with various drinking vessels and Tim’s cat, you need to head over to Patreon. If you are already a patron, it’s all there for you and if you have yet to join in, you can do that at the same time. Listen and let us know what you think! What do different performances of Gates sound like? What Jon Anderson piece did Tim Morse work on?Is Tim going to update his great book, Yesstories? Tim Link joins the party to talk about animals and how they think and communicate with thoughts. He can read your pets. Deborah asks him if they think in words or pictures or something else and he explains. Plus Tim does some readings for pet life radio listeners who emailed photos and questions. Why does one cat bully another? Can Tim help teach some cats to wait to be called before jumping up on their owner's claws out? Tim does a special reading for Deborah and connects with Squeak the blue heeler who died June 2009. Find out what Tim receives from pets that are no longer alive. Tim also shares lighter readings including a message from Thump who wants his owners to know that yogurt is okay but Thump wants meat and actually any scraps of any kind; He loves the variety and the surprise. Tim explains how all of us can send picture messages to our animals when we want to give them commands or make requests. At first Deborah was somewhat sceptical but since the show was made she has enjoyed amazing results from coupling commands and wishes with visual messages sent on purpose; the cats come quicker and are more polite. Sadie isn't picking on Peekaboo much anymore and has become relaxed with all the other cats since Tim sent her a message. Check out this party and you'll learn how to send messages to your pets. It is very easy and you'll see results immediately. More details on this episode MP3 Podcast - Telepathy With Animals is Not Just For Psychics with Deborah Wolfe
The first show of the offseason is chock full of hockey talk. In fact, it might be the longest show we've ever put together. To open, we're joined by Tim McManus of the Glens Falls Post Star. Tim was kind enough to join us for quite some time while we discussed the Flyers recent signing of Johan Backlund. What does Backlund's signing mean for the rest of the organization's goaltending prospects? What does it mean for the Flyers goaltending search this summer? We also talk about the new news regarding the Phantoms eventual move to Allentown. What does the timetable look like? The Hershey Bears won another Calder Cup this week. We talk about what that means for the rest of the league, and we talk about how awesome an organization the Bears are. After Tim leaves us, we turn our focus back to the Flyers. No time to reminisce, really: it's full speed ahead to the offseason. We talk goaltending for a while, we talk Jeff Carter for a bit, and then we play a game. It's more interesting than this blurb suggests.
Brad's review was just the beginning; we debate the exhilarating highs and inexplicable lows of Mass Effect 2. Plus: Tim quits games, classic sequels we love, and statistics, statistics, statistics. With Chi Kong Lui, Brad Gallaway, Mike "The Outlier" Bracken, Richard Naik, and Tim Spaeth.
