The Python cryptography module, pyca/cryptography, has mostly been a sane wrapper around a pile of C, so that users get performant cryptography on the many, many platforms Python targets. Therefore its maintainers, Alex Gaynor and Paul Kehrer, have become intimately familiar with OpenSSL. Recently, they declared that after many years of trying to make it work, they announced pyca/cryptography would be moving away from OpenSSL when supporting new functionality and exploring adding other backends instead. Donnelly recently put two-and-two together and figured out that a demolition and construction project not far from the Seattle waterfront is underway near what may be the location of an old ship buried there in the 19th century. The ship is the bark "Windward," and it was once used as a breakwater at the foot of Madison and Marion Streets. When the waterfront tidal area was filled in during the 1880s, the ship was left in place and buried. Many have written about the ship, including long-ago historians Clarence Bagley and C.T. Bermuda Triangle is a large area in the Atlantic Ocean between Florida, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda. This region is notorious for its mysterious phenomena. Huge amounts of ships and planes have disappeared here. How many creepy stories about the disappearing of airplanes and ships in the Bermuda Triangle have you heard? We guess many. And here's another one. In 1880, the Ellen Austin, a big ship, left the port of Liverpool to make its trip to New York. The ship was carrying a load of people hoping to find a better life in the New World. A few weeks, they found themselves north of the Sargasso Sea, known for its lack of winds and strong circling currents. Worse still, the area belonged to the notorious Bermuda Triangle. One day, the Ellen Austin lost its speed one day and fell adrift without the winds. It was fine, though: they had ample provisions and were still on schedule. Captain Griffin was walking around his ship, giving orders. But then, the lookout shouted from above that a ship was in sight. As it came closer, it became apparent that the way the strange vessel moved wasn't right. The captain frowned and examined it through his spyglass. The schooner was untouched but eerily silent. The voyage started just like any other. The cargo ship SS Cotopaxi is making another journey to Havana, Cuba, to deliver coal. It's November 29, 1925. For Captain Meyer and his crew, leaving Charleston Port, South Carolina -- it will be the last trip the ship ever makes. Its route ran through the Bermuda Triangle. Two days into the trip, the ship sent out a distress signal. It had got caught up in a strong tropical storm and turned over on its side. Rain gradually filled the ship's hold. Then there was a bright white flash, and the ship disappeared without a trace. All 32 crew members, including the captain, were missing. It seems like a classic case of mysterious things going on in the Bermuda Triangle. On October 21, 1836, crowds lined the docks of Saint John, New Brunswick, to watch the steamship Royal Tar depart for Portland, Maine - this time carrying an entire circus. Cages filled with exotic birds, snakes, lions and a tiger rolled on board, along with horses, camels and the star attraction: Mogul, a massive Asian elephant, who took his place on the upper deck. Four days later, after battling fierce storms, the ship caught fire, killing many on board. In desperation, some animals were forced into the icy waters of Penobscot Bay, while others perished in their cages. About the Dyatlov Pass Incident In February 1959, nine experienced Soviet hikers died under mysterious circumstances in the Ural Mountains after cutting their way out of their tent and fleeing into extreme cold. Six died from hypothermia while three suffered severe traumatic injuries including skull damage and chest fractures, with some bodies found months later showing unusual soft tissue damage. The original Soviet investigation concluded a "compelling natural force" caused the deaths, leading to decades of speculation about causes ranging from avalanches to military tests to paranormal phenomena. Russian authorities reopened the case in 2019 and concluded in 2020 that a slab avalanche likely forced the group to evacuate their tent in panic, leading to their deaths from hypothermia and injuries sustained during their desperate attempt to survive. Recent scientific studies have supported the avalanche theory, though the incident remains one of the most enduring mysteries in mountaineering history.
