A Dutch volleyball player convicted in 2016 of raping an underage girl has been denied a visa to Australia to compete in next month's Beach Volleyball World Championships. Steven van de Velde, now 31, was 19 when he was found guilty of sex with an underage girl. The Dutch Volleyball Association said in a statement that it was 'aware this could happen', given Australia's strict policy on issuing visas to people with convictions. Fifteen years ago, over five days in June 2010, in southern Afghanistan, 150 Australian Commandos and SASR soldiers fought and won the Battle of Shah Wali Kot, our largest engagement since Vietnam. For the Commandos, it was one of the toughest fights of their lives. For the SASR, in terms of kill count, it was their greatest battle ever won. For their grit and professionalism, the Commandos received a battle honour. Last Friday, the wind began to blow storm Benjamins swed across the northern regions. Wind turbines spun faster and faster. By mid-morning wind output hit 51 gigawatts. That's right. 51 gigawatts the highest. Since early last year, wind and solar together met nearly all of Germany's electricity needs, and then something happened that would have seemed impossible. 20 years ago, the price of electricity went negative. Minus seven euros and 15 cents per megawatt hour. Too much wind, too much power, not enough demand. Meanwhile, off the coast of Southern [00:01:00] France, dignitaries gathered for a celebration. The Provenance Grand Large floating offshore wind farm. 25 megawatts. Three Siemens Gamesa turbines mounted on floating platforms. France's first floating offshore wind project. a real milestone, but here is what caught everyone's attention. No government subsidies. EDF, Enbridge and CPP investments. Finance the entire project themselves. Self-finance, offshore wind in France. Halfway around the world in South Australia, Neoen inaugurated Goyder South. 412 megawatts, 75 turbines, the largest wind farm in the state, the largest in Neoen portfolio. It will generate 1.5 TERAWATT hours annually. That's a 20% increase in South Australia's total wind generation.[00:02:00] The state is racing towards 100% net renewables by 2027. Goyder South created 400 construction jobs, 12 permanent positions, over 100 million Australian dollars in local economic impact. Three different stories, three different continents, Europe, Asia Pacific, all celebrating wind power. But there is something else connecting these projects. Something the general public does not see something only industry professionals understand. 20 years ago, wind energy was expensive, subsidized, and uncertain . Critics called it a fantasy that would never compete with coal or natural gas. Today, Germany has so much wind power that prices go negative. France builds offshore wind farms without government money. Australia bets its entire energy future on renewables, and here is the number that tells the real [00:03:00] story. In 2005, global wind power capacity was 59 gigawatts. Today it exceeds 1000 gigawatts the cost per megawatt hour. It has dropped about 85%. Wind power went from the most expensive electricity source to one of the cheapest in about two decades faster than pretty much anyone had predicted, cheaper than anyone had really forecasted. the critics said it could not be done, and the skeptics said it would never compete. The doubters said it was decades away, and they were pretty much all wrong. Today France celebrates its first commercial scale floating offshore wind farm. And Germany's grid operator manages negative prices as routine Australia plans to run an entire state on renewable energy. 2. The Science of Fire and Response Organization in Australia. This section addresses the science of what burns and the organization of fire response in Australia. The Australian landscape contains fire-adapted plants. Eucalyptus trees are highly flammable due to their oil content, burning quickly. Mountain Ash is the largest species of eucalyptus in the world. While many eucalypts regenerate after fire, Mountain Ash actually dies after a fierce blaze but releases a huge load of seed, requiring sun to regenerate. Naturally, Mountain Ash fires are notoriously fierce and occur only every two or three hundred years. Fires are caused by lightning, power lines, and arson. Although arson is frequent, the resulting fires are often less dangerous than those caused by lightning or electrical faults, as some arsonists light fires for attention. Regarding fuel, while some believe certain weeds like pittosporum might be fireproof, ultimately, everything burns under the right conditions. A well-watered pittosporum hedge, however, could protect a home from ember attack. H. G. Wells is quoted in the book, describing fire as a "gorilla" that is opportunistic with sparks flying. In terms of response, fire brigades originated with insurance companies in the late 19th century, focusing on protecting buildings in townships. Rural communities, left unprotected, established their own parallel volunteer bushfire brigades (the first being in Berrigan in 1901). Following the enormous 1939 fires in Victoria, the government began funding and organizing state bodies to support these brigades. 1885 SOUTH AUSTRALIA

1. A Future in Flames: Worldwide Wildfire Phenomenon and Historical Context. Danielle Clode's book, A Future in Flames, addresses wildfires (or bushfires in Australia) as a worldwide phenomenon challenging civilization in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The discussion emphasizes that bushfires are not solely a product of civilization but were present historically. Early European explorers, such as Captain Cook in 1770, frequently reported seeing fires along the Australian coast, often interpreting them as indicators of people ashore. Once explorers went ashore, some observed really intense fires that were clearly out of control. The sources highlight the long history of fire use by humans, focusing on Indigenous Australians. Prior to European settlement, Indigenous people used fire in various ways, including hunting, clearing movement passages, signaling, defense, and crucially, land management. They used fire selectively to stimulate new growth and promote grass for grazing prey. This land management system, perfected over more than 60,000 years, is known as "fire stick farming" and is integral to the Australian ecology. In contrast, early European settlers failed to apply these lessons well, often using fire indiscriminately merely to clear forests. While the land clearance supported the economy by regenerating grass for sheep, the uncontrolled fires became a serious problem relatively early in the colony's history. By 1851, settlers realized the severity of the issue, exemplified by events like Black Thursday (February 5, 1851), which featured extreme heat (47°C or 120+°F). 1864 QUEENSLAND

While the Nanina hunted seals, the Australian transport ship Isabella wrecked on Eagle Island due to Captain George Hickton's ineptitude and drinking. They look really good on the charts, and they can be a fantastic way to profit from the markets. So let's talk about reversals and more right now. Hey there traders! It's Andrew Mitchem here at The Forex Trading Coach with video and podcast number 611. Trading reversals and continuations. So I personally trade two different chart patterns. I look for continuation patterns and I look for reversal patterns. Now, if you've been following me for any length of time, you will know that I prefer continuation patterns because it means that you're trading with the dominant trend. But after a pullback or retracement. What to look for when trading reversals. However, I also still do look for reversal trades. Now, they can look really very good on your charts, but they do pose slightly more risk because you are trading against a very strong uptrend or downtrend. However, there are a number of things you can do to put more factors in your favor to give yourself a high-probability chance of a successful trade. Selling the XAG/AUD D1 for 3.5:1 R:R profit. Now, a great example of that is just this week. On Monday, the 20th of October 2025, we took a sell trade on the daily Silver Australian dollar. So go have a look at the charts — XAG/AUD — on the daily charts, and you will see that Friday's candle, the completed Friday candle, was an all-time high, but also it closed very strongly back down as a bearish candle and had a number of other things in its favor. Not only was it an all-time high, but it had a trend line break, it was overbought, there had been recent divergence, and it broke down through the round number of 80 and closed below that level at the end of the week. So on Monday, at the beginning of the week, we suggested and took ourselves a sell trade based off that chart. Now, if you've been following gold and silver against almost everything over the last few weeks and months, you know that they've just gone up and up and up. They're going crazy. And so with anything that does that, there's always going to be an opportunity for it to get overbought and then pull back. Now, I don't know — and I don't particularly care — whether gold and silver, or in this case silver against the Australian dollar, has a massive fall away. It doesn't really matter for this particular trade. All I'm looking for is a slight pullback based on the candle pattern. Now, two candles later, we hit our full profit target on this particular trade for a very healthy 3.5 to 1 reward-to-risk. So that means if you risked 1% on the particular trade, you would have made a 3.5% gain on your account, which is pretty amazing considering it took just what — a minute, if that, to place the trade — and two candles later it hit the profit target. So have a look at what actually happened on the chart. Now, we take limit orders. Traded using a Sell limit order. So at the beginning of the week, we didn't just take a market order. We put a sell limit to sell XAG/AUD if the price first pulled back — which it did. It got to exactly our entry level and then turned around as anticipated and went straight to our profit target some two candles later.
