Growing up in the tight-knit Jewish community of Lakewood, New Jersey, during the 80s and 90s was akin to living in a serene bubble where everyone knew each other, and life moved at a gentle pace. Now, as I look back with our guest, Mrs. Giti Fredman, we marvel at how much has changed as Lakewood transformed into a bustling city. Both Mrs. Fredman and I have traversed various Jewish communities, from Munsey to Jerusalem, and witnessed similar evolution, reflecting on how these experiences have molded our perspectives on community and growth. Mrs. Fredman's story of her husband's unexpected inspiration to move to Portland during a friend's farewell party is a testament to life's surprising twists and the opportunities they bring. Our conversation takes a deeply personal turn as we delve into the journey of embracing Jewish faith—not just as a routine, but as a source of profound personal growth and transformation. Mrs. Fredman shares insightful stories about individuals who have reignited their spiritual journey, like the man who decided to stop eating shellfish at 68, illustrating that growth is possible at any stage of life. We explore the distinction between a growing Jew and a stagnant Jew, emphasizing the importance of continuous personal evolution. Through stories of community outreach, we highlight the transformative impact of spreading Torah learning and building meaningful connections in diverse Jewish communities, reminding listeners of the power of kindness and Jewish values in daily life.As we reflect on the legacy of the Holocaust, we confront the responsibility we bear to educate future generations. Through personal family stories, we honor the resilience of those who survived and the resurgence of Jewish life that followed. Our discussion underscores the significance of remembrance, while also celebrating Jewish continuity and the sanctity of traditions like Shabbos. Mrs. Fredman's journey from outreach work to entrepreneurship with "Just Bake It" encapsulates the joy of embracing Hashem's love and the opportunities life presents. By sharing this journey, we encourage listeners to find joy and success in their own personal and spiritual endeavors, while recognizing the profound pride and responsibility that comes with being part of the Jewish nation.Recorded in TORCH Center - Studio B in Houston, Texas on May 15, 2023.Released as Podcast on December 1, 2024_____________Giti Fredman can be reached at Giti@JustBakeIt.org and justbakeit.orgDONATE to TORCH: Please consider supporting the podcasts by making a donation to help fund our Jewish outreach and educational efforts at https://www.torchweb.org/support.php. The Tormented Alliance: American Servicemen and the Occupation of China, 1941–1949 (UNC Press, 2022) explores the wartime partnership between China and the United States from the ground up. Beginning in 1941, and especially after Pearl Harbor, both sides had high hopes for wartime cooperation against Japan. But as The Tormented Alliance shows, ‘a military alliance with the United States means a military occupation by the United States.' This occupation was underpinned by inequalities of race, gender, nation, wealth, and power which strained relations between China and the United States during both the Second World War and the ensuing Chinese Civil War. The tens of thousands of US military personnel in China transformed themselves into a widely loathed occupation force: an aggressive, resentful, emasculating source of physical danger and compromised sovereignty. Following multiple archival trails, Fredman finds how negative on-the-ground interactions between US servicemen and all kinds of Chinese people – civilian and military – turned Sino-American cooperation into a ‘tormented alliance' and helped unravel it from below. This groundbreaking study is highly recommended for anyone interested in twentieth-century China, US foreign relations, and the history of war. rWotD Episode 2707: Gråt Fader Berg och spela Welcome to Random Wiki of the Day, your journey through Wikipedia’s vast and varied content, one random article at a time. The random article for Tuesday, 1 October 2024 is Gråt Fader Berg och spela.Gråt Fader Berg och spela (Cry, Father Berg, and Play) is No. 12 in the Swedish poet and performer Carl Michael Bellman's 1790 song collection, Fredman's Epistles. The epistle is subtitled "Elegi över Slagsmålet på Gröna Lund" ("Elegy on the Battle at Gröna Lund [Tavern]"). It is a lament over a pub brawl, caused by Fredman's drinking a soldier's beer and dancing with someone else's girlfriend. Set to the melody from the aria "The flocks shall leave the mountains" in George Frideric Handel's opera Acis and Galatea, it is the best-known of his poems describing the consequences of brandy-drinking. Bellman used the contrast between the romantic associations of the melody and the brutal reality of heavy drinking to humorous effect. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:32 UTC on Tuesday, 1 October 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Gråt Fader Berg och spela on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Matthew.

In an increasingly interconnected world, no country is an island. Today, that is arguably no truer in the Middle East than anywhere else on the planet. As the war between Russia and Ukraine rages, a number of countries, including the European Union (EU) have pledged to decrease their consumption of Russian oil and gas, and now Israel may be able to play a central role in helping to supply these much needed resources to citizens across Europe. In this week's episode, we sit down with Asher Fredman. Asher is Director for Israel at the Abraham Accords Peace Institute, as well as the Chief Executive Officer of Future Middle East, and a number of other roles. He is a widely recognized expert in energy policy, and he shares his vision for a future where Israel plays a critical role in supplying energy to Europe and beyond. Rewarding Property Decisions with Jarrod McCabe of Wakelin Property Advisory
The prestige property market can be a world unto itself, often running at different angles than broader market trends. One of Melbourne's most notable prestige areas is the beachside suburb of Brighton and the wider Bayside area. So what makes this area so in demand, what are people willing to pay, how has the market performed in relation to the broader property downturn, and where is it headed in the year ahead? To find out, Jarrod sat down with agent Joel Fredman, founder of Fredman Property Group, who specialises in prestige property from $3 to $30 million across Brighton and Bayside. Lets go!

Have you ever thought about all the things that go on behind the scenes when you file an insurance claim for your car? Probably not. And that's a good thing, because if you did have to think about the complexity that lies behind, you would not be a happy customer. The reality, however, is that every insurance claim triggers hundreds of processes and transactions that work in harmony to verify and pay out your claim. The fascinating thing is that AI is starting to play an increasingly influential role in this ecosystem. To understand this better, we invited Marc Fredman to the AI in Automotive Podcast. Marc is the Chief Strategy Officer at CCC Intelligent Solutions. CCC's technology connects thousands of companies that make the insurance economy run and powers over a hundred billion dollars of insurance commerce. In today's conversation, Marc takes us inside the insurance economy, and shares with us the variety of ways in which artificial intelligence is helping power the insurance ecosystem. If you like this episode of our podcast, do share it with your friends and colleagues, and rate us wherever you get your podcasts.

La Tienda De Biblioteca Del Metal: Encontraras, Ropa, Accesorios,Decoracion, Ect... Todo Relacionado Al Podcats Biblioteca Del Metal Y Al Mundo Del Heavy Metal. Descubrela!!!!!! Ideal Para Llevarte O Regalar Productos Del Podcats De Ivoox. Después de un año nace "Made in Hellspain". E incluso grupos clásicos de Black metal como: Mayhem, Burzum, Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir, Old Man's Child... Aunque estéticamente por grupos más clásicos como: Kiss, White Zombie, Alice Cooper, The Misfits, GWAR o Cradle Of Filth.

The beauty of this podcast focusing on leadership and mentoring is that when a company sponsors the podcast, it's not a shameless plug to interview one of that company's leaders. As we kick off October, this month's presenting sponsor is Stepp & Rothwell, Inc., and we're chatting with the company's Director of Client Relations, Ron Fredman. What exactly does a publicist spend their days doing? Pitching the media, confirming (and re-confirming) interviews/appearances/events, managing author egos, putting out fires, etc. But if you’re someone who works with NYT bestselling authors like Jennifer Weiner and Fredrik Backman, you also get to go on tour! Ariele Fredman Stewart began her publishing career interning for Bloomsbury and mocking up Harry Potter posters, and now works as the Associate Director of Publicity in the Atria imprint at Simon & Schuster. Corinne talked to Ariele about just how much publicity has changed since the advent of digital media, why her role on book tours is that of a (friendly) cop, how the role of a publicist is always evolving, and whether or not viral fame has changed her toddler. https://www.popsugar.com/family/video-toddler-saying-goodbye-mom-before-preschool-46647233 Please rate and review us on whatever podcast platform you happen to use. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals in 2015. They aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all people. The goals provide policy objectives for countries to aspire to meet over a number of years. In this final episode of our SDG podcast series, we talk about how the Sustainable Development Goals and human rights can work together to achieve transformative change in the realm of gender equality. In order for the SDGs to be truly transformative for women, attention needs to be paid simultaneously to four dimensions of equality: first, redressing disadvantage; second, addressing stereotyping, stigma, prejudice and violence; third, facilitating voice and participation; and fourth, achieving systemic or institutional change. Professor Sandra Fredman (University of Oxford) talks about applying these dimensions of equality in her recent report for the British Academy on human rights, the SDGs, and gender equality. **This episode is part of a special series on “Working Together: Human Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals,” a British Academy project led by Professor Sandy Fredman, Fellow of the British Academy and Director of the Oxford Human Rights Hub. As part of this project, the Academy convened a roundtable in January 2018 with academic experts, policymakers and practitioners from the UK and overseas to discuss the ways in which human rights and developmental goals can work together to achieve the SDG agenda and particularly gender equality and women’s empowerment.** Interview with: Sandra Fredman (University of Oxford) Produced by: Kira Allmann (University of Oxford) Music by: Rosemary Allmann

This study investigated the immunobiology of MOG-induced EAE in the DA rat, an animal model, which reproduces the immunopathology of the type II MS lesion (Lucchinetti et al., 2000). A newly established immunisation protocol results in a highly synchronised biphasic form of EAE, which mimics the disease course of secondary progressive MS, albeit in a strongly abbreviated time course (Figure 3.1.1). This study demonstrates that MOG-specific autoantibodies are responsible for initiating clinical relapse and driving disease progression. On the background of mild, sub-clinical inflammatory activity in the CNS, pathogenic antibodies enter the CNS and mediate demyelination, a process that in turn amplifies the local inflammatory response (Figure 3.1.14 A). It should however be noted that lethal clinical relapses may also occur in the absence of a pathogenic antibody response if an inflammatory lesion develops in a region of the CNS that is particularly sensitive to damage, or where it may perturb vital functions, such as the brain stem. Although antibodies have been shown to amplify the severity of ongoing clinical EAE (Schluesener et al., 1987; Linington et al., 1988; Lassmann et al., 1988), firm evidence for a role in driving relapse and disease progression was missing. This study has now established this principal, which in all probability is relevant to our understanding of the pathogenesis of severe, steroid non-responsive relapses in MS patients. However, this model of EAE is an artificial system, in which the role of antibody is only apparent because of the different kinetics of MOG-specific T and B cell responses. In MS we still have to answer two crucial questions, namely the identity of the autoantigens targeted by the demyelinating antibody response, and the factors that may trigger this response. MOG is the only myelin protein known to initiate a demyelinating antibody response in EAE, and MOG-induced EAE has provided a valuable tool to identify the role of pathogenic autoantibodies in immune mediated demyelination. However, there is a major discrepancy between the proportion of MS patients with pathogenic MOG-specific antibodies in their circulation (5%; Haase et al., 2000) and the frequency of patients with pathological changes suggestive of antibody-mediated pathomechanisms (>50%; Lucchinetti et al., 2000). This discrepancy may in part be accounted for by the absorption of the pathogenic antibodies into the CNS, which will lead to a dramatic reduction of the antibody titre in the periphery, as demonstrated in section 3.1.3.4 of this study. On the other hand, it is unlikely that MOG is the only target autoantigen, which is exposed on the myelin surface and can therefore initiate a demyelinating autoantibody response. The identification of potential targets is a prerequisite to develop diagnostic kits to identify those patients with pathogenic autoantibody responses and then provide an appropriate therapy such as plasma exchange, or immuno-absorption. As demonstrated in this study, DNA vaccination using a plasmid encoding a myelin antigen is one approach to generate high titre autoantibody responses directed against the native protein. The pathogenicity of this antibody response can then be assayed in the same animal by inducing EAE. This method circumvents problems such as purity, yield and denaturation, all of which complicate any study using antigens isolated from the CNS or generated using recombinant technologies. Coupling this approach to a proteomics based analysis of the myelin membrane and reverse genomics to identify candidate gene products provides the means to map out those protein antigens that can be targeted by a demyelinating autoantibody response. The feasibility of this concept is currently being tested in the rat using PLP and MAG as myelin components that may in certain circumstances provoke a pathogenic autoantibody response. Such an analysis will, however, not detect pathogenic antibody responses to glycolipid antigens, which are major target autoantigens in a number of diseases affecting the peripheral nervous system such as Guillain Barré syndrome (GBS). In GBS a pathogenic antibody response to gangliosides appears to be triggered by infections with particular serotypes of Campylobacter jejuni (Fredman, 1998; Willison and O´Hanlon, 1999). In the majority of patients these antibody responses are an acute phenomenon and disappear as the patients recover (Hahn, 1998). It is conceivable that a similar mechanism is responsible for the initiation of severe relapses in some MS patients, if an infection triggers a cross-reactive antibody response to a surface glycolipid epitope. This would induce an episode of acute CNS demyelination that would not be immediately responsive to immunosuppressive therapy, as tissue damage and amplification of the local inflammatory response would be driven by the pre- existing antibody response. Analysis of the autoantibody responses in MS should therefore be extended to examine lipid as well as protein autoantigens. Such studies should also not be restricted to myelin, but also address the question of responses to other structures such as the axon and oligodendrocyte progenitor cells. Such autoantibody responses are however only conditionally pathogenic, in other words their pathogenic potential is only expressed if they can enter the CNS across the blood brain barrier (BBB)(Litzenburger et al., 1998; Bourquin et al., 2000). In EAE the inflammatory insult to the CNS is responsible for the disruption of BBB function and the entry of antibody into the nervous system. MS is characterised by repeated episodes of CNS inflammation but what initiates and maintains this response is unclear. The observation, that DA rats develop a similar, although eventually self-limiting response in the CNS after immunisation with MOG-peptide in CFA provides a model to investigate the immuno-regulatory deficit(s) responsible for chronic CNS inflammation. The disease model is very reproducible with >90% of animals relapsing after peptide immunisation as opposed to
