Juan was a dedicated employee of Rodriguez Trucking for 17 years, contrary to the defense's claims that he was not employed by the company at the time of the incident, and was asked to help repair the roof without a safety harness or training of any kind, both of which resulted in a serious Office of Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) violation. A San Patricio County, Texas jury found Rodriguez Trucking owner Isaac G. I loved the BAFTA award-winning show The Revolution Will Be Televised so much, with its cutting satire and hilarious pranks tackling serious issues it was the perfect combination of silly and serious all in one. It was a pleasure to chat with Heydon Prowse who along with Jolyon Rubenstein (E2) were the stars of the show as well as the writers too. Hear how Heydon along with Joe Wade were already creating prank-style undercover videos about political stuff and then added Jolyon who brought new characters into the mix. Together they spent almost a decade creating some of the best TV and getting into amazing situations sometimes quite dangerous but always hilariously entertaining and thought-provoking. Heydon shares some great stories on how they planned the pranks and got access to places like the Hague, the Saudi Arabian Embassy and Google Headquarters as well as how they got out of more than a few sticky situations when they almost got caught. He also shares his conflict around examining his own motivations, wondering if protest and activism really work and if being a critic is the best way to go in life. Heydon is a deep, thoughtful, and funny guy and I can't wait to see what he does next. How she is using art for healing, for connection and to raise awareness about social justice issues to affect change.   Tracy Ferron is the Founder and Executive Director of Life on Earth Art, a California-based non-profit organization working to heal trauma and division in our society by fusing community art-making, art therapy, and activism with touring large-scale art experiences.  LOEA offers transformative healing work to schools, social service organizations, public and correctional institutions, partnering with other non-profits. Ferron's work illuminates social injustices which beg for awareness, compassion and action.  Her large winged heart artworks have graced protests for incarcerated rights at San Quentin Prison and the Women's March in Sacramento, CA.  Her museum installations have explored medical experimentation (2018), the murder of global activists (2019), and community artmaking celebrating loved ones lost for Día de los Muertos (2021). Tracy conceived of and produced Unbound (2021-22), an 80-foot community made sculpture of hundreds of paper mâché winged hearts flying free from a cage in an innovative year-long partnership with 70 therapists at one of California's largest psychiatric facilities. This project brought art-making engagement to over 500 psychiatric patients, 200 staff and 800 community participants–creating a sense of belonging and uplift.  Unbound was recognized with a first place award for Arts for Innovation by the National Organization for Arts in Health in November 2022. Tracy received her Master's Degree in Engaged Humanities at Pacifica Graduate Institute. What started the pushback against the Wuhan "lab leak" theory? This episode investigates the origins of coronavirus with the best-selling author and biohacker, Jamie Metzl. Despite enduring the COVID pandemic for over a year, the question remains - how and why did Covid 19 begin? At the time of this upload, The World Health Organization's (WHO) investigation into the origins of Covid-19 has said that a laboratory leak is the least likely hypothesis. Today's guest Jamie Metzl, fresh off of his recent Joe Rogan appearance isn't convinced. We also discussed Biohacking, Gene editing, and North Korea. This conversation went all over the place but to be clear, conspiracy theories don't interest me, I don't follow politics, and I have no interest in blaming others for the pandemic. That being said, I feel deeply uncomfortable and anxious knowing that if we don't figure out how this all started, it will happen again in our lifetime. Elli is a Toronto-based mindfulness practitioner and teacher who is passionate about the translation of mindfulness practice into everyday life. She is currently based at the University of Toronto as an instructor for the Applied Mindfulness and Meditation Certificate Program and is a PhD Candidate in the Faculty of Medicine. Her thesis is on the application of mindfulness to address physician wellbeing. After completing a masters degree focused on integrating mindfulness into education, Elli spent a year as the international program coordinator for Wake Up Schools, a global initiative to cultivate mindfulness in education. She is also a certified teacher in the Search Inside Yourself (SIY) program which was developed at Google Headquarters and brings together mindfulness, emotional intelligence and neuroscience. Since 2015 she has been a member of the Mindfulness Project Team at The Hospital for Sick Children, which acts as a hub for mindfulness initiatives across the hospital. A team of three University of Lagos (UNILAG) students have won the Hackathon4Justice competition organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in partnership with Facebook and AfricaTeenGeeks. The trio of David Popoola, Eyitayo Ogunbiyi, and Chukwudumebi Onwuli beat 47 other students from nine institutions shortlisted for the final at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Lagos last weekend. The students were challenged to employ technology to solve problems relating to achieving the rule of law in the areas of corruption, integrity, and ethics; crime prevention and criminal justice; organized crime; human trafficking and terrorism and violent extremism after a 29-hour coding marathon. The winning team developed a software, 'Let's Fight Trafficking' (TFL), to unmask traffickers. It features an e-learning planning platform on human trafficking; a facial recognition system that matches feed from webcams and other images to determine existing case with similar images in the database; a portal for victim's close friends to file reports about trafficking in their area and a heat map, generated from report data to let users know where trafficking is most prevalent and take preventive measures. The feat gave the winners a ticket to the Global Hackathon for Justice Event to hold at the Google Headquarters in Silicon Valley in August, where they will participate as mentors. Below is a Summary from the Interview Competing For Greatness with Eyitayo Ogunbiyi, Chukwudumebi Onwuli, and David Popoola They started by introducing themselves and how they met at the competition because they applied individually but soon became a team. They recalled learning about the competition from a recruiter on Facebook and applying after. While sharing their experiences, they recounted that the competition had lasted for 29 hours out of which they were allowed a two hours nap. They split the work into tasks and would meet to collaborate once there was any challenge. The lady amongst them, Dumebi shared her personal experience at the Hackathon, she said she was able to learn a lot because there was space to ask questions. Speaking further, she said that through the competition, she was able to learn about human trafficking, corruption, justice for children, cybercrime and others. Discussing how they created the software ‘Let fight trafficking’ that won them the competition they said that the areas that were to be judged had guided them in creating the app. They said that they had to come up with a lot of features but the feature that increased their chances was the facial recognition feature. The Facial recognition feature they explained would allow trafficked people to submit pictures and through their database, it would guide them in following up on trafficking cases. They each maintained that their parents had been supportive during the process but initially expressed their doubts from fear of their studies suffering and others. Tayo one of the participants advised that young people learning to code take care to always be dedicated especially if coding is not their main discipline. He also spoke on the need for up and coming programmers to take the learning process as number one priority and to learn to make sacrifices if they would ever ma. Speaking on what they had learnt during the course of competing, Dumebi revealed that she had learnt about justice and this has helped her in becoming very open-minded as it concerns creating solutions. During the competition David agreed that he had learnt new things around the world of crime, there he also got to see the power of community as the final product was being crowdsourced. Tayo was of the opinion that what stood out for him was that he learnt how to work well in teams with people from different places, he learnt to communicate and connect with people.

You all are in for a treat today! I've got Gemma O'Brien on the podcast today, an artist who's wowed me for a while on Instagram and in a fun turn of events, I flew across the country last week to help her paint her latest mural at Google Headquarters in Silicon Valley. It's a funny thing meeting people you've only seen on your Instagram feed - maybe this is what it feels like to online date someone. You never truly know who they are behind the 'gram! Because personally, I think I was funniest back in my Yahoo! Messenger days...the instant messenger response delay really helped me be extremely witty. But my Yahoo glory days are beside the point and Gemma was super fun. So back to her. If you've never seen her art, you NEED to. It truly is just plain awesome. Stuff you look at and can't really wrap your mind around how it got from A (blank wall) to B (wowza). Funny enough, in my excitement of all the free food Google offers, I didn't press record correctly and thus missed half of the interview (lesson learned), but I think we ended up covering most of it in the end! Most of you know Ragen as the author of the fantastic blog "Dances With Fat", but she also wrote a book called "Fat: The Owner's Manual" and she is the editor of the multi-volume anthology "The Politics of Size - Perspectives from the Fat Acceptance Movement". Her blog "Dances With Fat" is followed by thousands of people from every continent around the world; men and women who are as fed up with weight-stigma as herself. Ragen describes herself as a professional speaker, writer, and real live fat person. She has spoken everywhere from friend's living rooms to Google Headquarters to Cal Tech and Dartmouth. She will not stop until we live in a world where the full diversity of body sizes is respected, and fat people are able to live in fat bodies without shame, stigma, bullying, and harassment.
