What does it actually mean to "abide" in the truth, and how can familiarizing ourselves with God's Word help us spot the counterfeits in our culture?  In this episode of Off Script, Scott and Neil reflect on the incredible success of the recent Meal Pack, where Southland packed one million meals across five campuses. They dive into the importance of men stepping up for mission trips. The heart of the conversation focuses on "Week 3" of the Reset Challenge, exploring how replacing digital noise with Bible teaching and daily reading in the Book of John is changing lives. Scott also unpacks what it means to "make yourself at home" in the Bible so that we can develop the discernment needed to navigate a world where truth is often seen as relative.  The Challenge Don't let go of the discipline you've put in place. As we move into the final week of the Reset Challenge, continue your daily reading in the Book of John and look for ways to move from being a bystander to pouring your life out as an offering for something bigger than yourself.  Hosts: Neil Gregory and Scott Nickell What We Discuss The "breaking news" that Scott is officially attempting to take over the DJ playlist for next year's Meal Pack Why it's vital for men to prioritize mission trips despite busy schedules and work responsibilities Feedback from the Reset Challenge and the impact of listening to solid Bible preachers The "non-negotiable" habit of daily scripture reading to keep from falling back into old patterns  Why 83% of teenagers believe truth is relative and where that cultural shift is coming from  The definition of "abide" as making yourself at home in the Word of God  How Jesus illustrated his "I Am" statements through miraculous actions in the Gospel of John  Learning to recognize the "whiff of a lie" by becoming intimately acquainted with the real truth  Understanding what we are saved from: the penalty, the practice, and the power of sin  The significance of physical movement in worship and why Scott called people to the front of the stage this week About Southland Christian Church Southland is one church meeting in multiple locations across central Kentucky. We believe Jesus came for the lost and the broken, which means there's a place for everyone here. Around here, that means we worship defiantly, speak truth unashamedly, and extend grace generously. “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do,forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those thingswhich are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling ofGod in Christ Jesus.” Today,we conclude our introduction to the book of Philippians by looking at one ofthe most powerful statements that Paul makes in this letter. In Philippians3:13–14, he writes: “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended; butthis one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reachingforth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prizeof the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” These words reveal the focusand the passion of the Apostle Paul's life. I'dlike for us to take a few moments to remember what Paul was doing as Saulbefore his conversion. We first meet Saul back in Acts 7:58. He was standingthere when Stephen, the first martyr, was stoned to death. He held the clothesof those who cast the stones at Stephen. In Acts 8:1-3, in the opening verses,we find that Saul was making havoc of the church—persecuting Christians, dragging them from their homes, throwing them into prison, and even puttingthem to death. Then, in Acts 9, Saul meets the Lord Jesus Christ on the road toDamascus. When he said, “Who are You, Lord?” Jesus answered from heaven,“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” Saul was persecuting JesusChrist as he was imprisoning and killing believers. Later, when Paul gave his testimony in Acts 26:9-11 before King Agrippa, he said: “ThisI also did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I shut up in prison, havingreceived authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, Icast my vote against them. And I punished them often in every synagogue andcompelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly enraged against them, Ipersecuted them even to foreign cities.” Can you imagine that? He said hewas “exceedingly enraged” against them. He hated the followers of Jesus Christ. But then he met Jesus—and everything changed. Sowhen Paul says, “forgetting those things which are behind,” can youimagine the burden he carried after becoming a follower of Christ? He had toface families of those who had suffered because of him. He had to seekforgiveness from people whose loved ones he had persecuted. He must have carrieda tremendous weight from his past. But, my friend, Paul did not live in thepast. He did not dwell on past failures—or even past successes. Instead, hepressed forward toward the mark that God had set before him. Inthis same letter, Paul makes another well-known statement in Philippians 1:21: “Forto me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” This verse captures the veryheart of Paul's life. Living meant serving Christ. Dying meant being withChrist. Either way, Jesus Christ was everything to him. That is the centralmessage of the book of Philippians. Joy is found in Christ. Strength is foundin Christ. Purpose is found in Christ. Aswe begin our verse-by-verse study of this letter in the days ahead, we will seeagain and again how Paul points believers back to the Lord Jesus Christ. InPhilippians 3:10–11, he writes: “That I may know Him and the power of Hisresurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to Hisdeath, if by any means I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.” Myfriend, the more we know Christ, the more our hearts are filled with joy. Themore we trust Christ, the more we experience peace. The more we follow Christ, the more our lives begin to reflect His love and His humility. Iam convinced that as we study through this book together, God will use it todeepen our faith, strengthen our walk, and fill our hearts with a joy that onlyJesus Christ can give. Maythe Lord bless you in the days ahead as we explore this wonderful and excitingbook together.

https://programs.the-christ.net/courses/the-way-of-the-mysticIn this session from the sixth The Way of the Mystic revival weekend, David Hoffmeister explores the theme "Perfect love casts out fear: Shower the people you love with love." David uses this week's movie to illustrate the journey from a colorless, controlled existence to the vibrant reality of spiritual awakening. The discussion centers on a realm where "Sameness" has eradicated pain at the cost of deep emotion and true connection. David highlights how the ego's attempt to create a safe, predictable world by suppressing memories only serves to maintain spiritual slumber. David explores the necessity of reintegrating the "colors" of life—the feelings we feel—to truly understand the nature of love and wake up to truth.David guides us to realize that perfect love is a state of being reached when we allow the Giver - the Holy Spirit - to guide our every thought. Recognizing our true function is to hold the vision of the Kingdom of Christ, we find that the willingness to feel all emotions is the first step toward welcoming peace of mind and remembering God.These gatherings take place every weekend in February and March 2026 and include teachings, films, music, panel discussions, and live Q&A sessions with David Hoffmeister.Register for the Way of the Mystic for free here: https://programs.the-christ.net/courses/the-way-of-the-mysticIf you want to learn more about David Hoffmeister and Living Miracles events, visit https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/eventsRecording Date: Online, Saturday, March 14, 2026Follow us on:YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/DavidHoffmeister https://www.youtube.com/@LivingMiraclesFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/ACIM.ACourseInMiracles Learn more about David & Living Miracles:https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/eventsLearn more about A Course in Miracles:https://ACIM.bizDavid's Spanish YouTube Channel is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP9Gw00CldPUmiu43y7fdWwDavid's Portuguese YouTube Channel is:https://www.youtube.com/@davidhoffmeisterucem

In this transcript from the Living in the Truth podcast, Joe Granieri explores the spiritual discipline of living in the moment by prioritizing a relationship with God over earthly anxieties. Drawing from the biblical teachings of Jesus and the prophet Elijah, Joe argues that divine peace, joy, and righteousness are already present within a believer's spirit and merely need to be released through faith. He emphasizes that God is never angry with His children because Jesus absorbed all divine wrath on the cross, offering a permanent state of grace and favor. To maintain an open heart capable of hearing God's voice, the speaker warns against the hardness of heart caused by sin, bad doctrine, or the distractions of modern life. Ultimately, the text encourages immediate obedience to spiritual impressions, illustrated by a poem titled "I Am" which suggests God's presence exists only in the current moment rather than the past or future.

Our guest explains how he moved (back) to New York from Indiana in the '80s and how he got his foot in the door at the Village Voice with a 1988 profile of country singer Gary Stewart, the subject of his new book. We then hear about the long and painful saga of his extraordinary Neil Young biography Shakey (2002) — and his singular approach to the biographical trade. Clips from Amy Linden's 1995 audio interview with Al Green give us the opportunity to ask Jimmy about his 2017 biography of the Reverend Green, after which we finally get to the 40-year gestation of I Am from the Honky Tonks and the story of his obsession with his doomed honky-tonk hero. He explains why the book felt like a mission and why Gary Stewart could and should have been a country superstar. After Mark quotes from featured writer John Morthland's review of the Monterey Pop Festival (with a namecheck for the late Country Joe McDonald) and from a 1975 interview with Tammy Wynette – another of our guest's biographical subjects — Jasper wraps things up with remarks on the Australian Folk Bitch Trio and the man who manages Yungblud (and "eats challenges for breakfast"). This message takes us into the power and significance of the name of Jesus Christ — a name filled with authority, salvation, and supernatural power. Rooted in Acts of the Apostles 4:12, we're reminded that salvation is found in no other name, and that the name of Jesus carries everything we need: hope, healing, freedom, and redemption. As we unpack the character, superiority, and power of His name, we see that Jesus is the great "I AM" — our bread of life, our light, our shepherd, and our resurrection. This message encourages us to live with bold faith, knowing we have been entrusted with the authority of His name and can declare it over every circumstance. No matter what you're facing, the name of Jesus still has power to transform identity, break chains, and bring breakthrough. Every knee must bow at His name — in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.

Send a textAgentic AI stops being “just software” the moment it can take actions across your systems and that's where leadership, cybersecurity, and trust collide. We sit down with Mark Lynd, a globally recognized cybersecurity and AI thought leader and former CIO, CTO, and CISO, to get specific about what enterprise teams misunderstand when they talk about autonomous AI agents. The promise is speed and cost savings; the reality is permissions, accountability, and a threat landscape that changes when agents have identities and privileges. We dig into why “identity is the new perimeter” in an AI-driven world and how attackers target the keys to the kingdom: access, escalated privileges, and the ability to work around security controls. Mark shares how common IAM problems like permission sprawl and forgotten access can become even more dangerous with agents, especially as organizations scale from a few pilots to hundreds or thousands of AI agents. We also talk governance frameworks like NIST and ISO, why frameworks alone don't equal evaluation criteria, and how boards push for innovation while regulators demand control. If you're a CIO, CISO, security leader, or board advisor trying to adopt agentic AI responsibly, this conversation offers a grounded approach: start with small, auditable use cases, keep a real human-in-the-loop model, align every agent to business goals, and build trust through repeatable wins. Listen, share this with a teammate, and subscribe plus leave a review with your answer: what's the first workflow you would trust an AI agent to run? Thanks for tuning in to this episode of Follow The Brand! David, 80, has been teaching ministry for over 60 years. He has decades of experience as a minister, teacher, author, spiritual guide and sound healer - and has journeyed from a fundamentalist Christian upbringing to an inclusive spiritual vista that primarily champions love over fear. David is the founder and spiritual leader of the ‘Academy for Spiritual Awakening' - a vibrant sanctuary blending things like Christian texts, Gnostic insights, Kabbalah, A Course in Miracles, and modern science to inspire transformation. David works extensively with ancient Solfeggio frequencies and tuning forks, his teachings and insights are weaved with various knowledge from qigong, meditation, 5D, building community, cellular shifts, unconditional love, star-seeds, and many more.In this episode we talk ancient frequencies, 'Babes, Adolescents, and Co-Creative Adults', the overlooked gaps in sacred stories, inner knowing vs. structured faith, DNA revelations from quiet reflection, heart-centered sound work, stages of inner maturation, physical manifestations of soul growth, disorders leading to renewal, experiencing divine encounters, universal memory, sound's role in vitality, ecstatic energy release, community sanctuaries, creating lasting impact, shaping our destinies through community and much, much more.Notable quotes from David in this episode:“The path you're really on should be the path to no path. We don't need to get something we don't have. We need to remember what we've forgotten.”"Over the past six decades, I've moved beyond the traditional fundamentalist religious framework to embrace a broader, more inclusive understanding of spirituality."“Don't believe everything I say just because I say it. Take what resonates with your own innate intelligence. That's where your own ‘I AM' code comes in.”“Transformation begins with chaos and disorder. The caterpillar doesn't go through all that to become an enlightened caterpillar -it becomes a butterfly.”"He said, I'm the way. And I think they cut out the way. You know, there's at 18 years missing in the Bible that nobody wants to talk about in Christian. Them. Like, okay, that wasn't important. He didn't say anything for 18 years that maybe you need to know."“I want to work with what's breaking through, not try to fix what's breaking down.”"I'm sure that old caterpillar goes, what in the world is going on here? You know, I've been nibbling on this leaf, and now there's I've eaten all my resources. I have nowhere to go but what's happening inside of me? John 8:31-58 focuses on Jesus's claim to be the truth that sets people free, contrasted with the Jews' claims of freedom based on their lineage and religious practices. Jesus argues that true disciples abide in His word and are freed from the slavery of sin, while those who reject Him are enslaved to sin and ultimately to death. The passage culminates in Jesus declaring His eternal existence, stating "Before Abraham was, I AM," further emphasizing His divine nature and authority. https://programs.the-christ.net/courses/the-way-of-the-mysticIn this deep-dive Q&A, David Hoffmeister concludes the fifth "Way of the Mystic" online revival, titled "Radical Acceptance of the Guidance: Leave the World Behind." Together, we explore the profound mental shift required to step out of the ego's hypnotic script and into the clarity of spiritual insight.David addresses the nature of linear time, reminding us that the script is already written and in truth already past and gone. When spiritual sparks occur, our only true choice is to maintain the closest possible connection with the presence of Jesus in any situation. By doing so, we move beyond the ego's attempt to confine "love" to the tapestry of form—typically a limited, worldly concern for bodies—and instead turn inward to Spirit to receive a transcendent, universal peace. The discussion also highlights how the ego uses competition to maintain the illusion of separation. David offers a refreshing perspective: laughter is a potent antidote to these "serious" diversions. By refusing to take the ego's distractions personally and using every circumstance to transfer our training to the Holy Spirit, we see through the world's deceptive layers and accept a state of radical trust. These gatherings take place every weekend in February and March 2026 and include teachings, films, music, panel discussions, and live Q&A sessions with David Hoffmeister.Register for the Way of the Mystic for free here: https://programs.the-christ.net/courses/the-way-of-the-mysticIf you want to learn more about David Hoffmeister and Living Miracles events, visit https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/eventsRecording date: Online, Sunday, March 8, 2026Follow us on:YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/DavidHoffmeister https://www.youtube.com/@LivingMiraclesFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/ACIM.ACourseInMiracles Learn more about David & Living Miracles:https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/eventsLearn more about A Course in Miracles:https://ACIM.bizDavid's Spanish YouTube Channel is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP9Gw00CldPUmiu43y7fdWwDavid's Portuguese YouTube Channel is:https://www.youtube.com/@davidhoffmeisterucem

Unfortunately, today there seem to be so many people serving the great I was. But that is not how God revealed Himself to Moses. God revealed Himself as the great I AM. God is working and moving NOW in the present, not just in past history. The problem with faith is that God confirms His Promise to us after we step out in obedience, not before. So we will never fully see the result of God's Promise until we fully step out in obedience to His Word.

By clearing the mind of grievances, we become open conduits for the Holy Spirit, allowing a universal blessing to flow through us to the entire world. Central to this process is developing a gentle awareness of our "distractions"—the ego's attempts to pull us back into the dream. David encourages us to notice these diversions without falling into self-judgment, remaining compassionate as we choose the Spirit over the illusions of the past. The One Mind is not meant for intellectual study but for direct experience. As we open our hearts and practically follow guidance, higher love begins to extend naturally. By addressing healing at the thought level, we move beyond effort into the direct knowledge of our Source. These gatherings take place every weekend in February and March 2026, featuring teachings, films, music, and live dialogues.Register for the Way of the Mystic for free here: https://programs.the-christ.net/courses/the-way-of-the-mysticIf you want to learn more about David Hoffmeister and Living Miracles events, visit https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/eventsRecording Date: Online, Saturday, March 7, 2026Follow us on:YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/DavidHoffmeister https://www.youtube.com/@LivingMiraclesFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/ACIM.ACourseInMiracles Learn more about David & Living Miracles:https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/eventsLearn more about A Course in Miracles:https://ACIM.bizDavid's Spanish YouTube Channel is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP9Gw00CldPUmiu43y7fdWwDavid's Portuguese YouTube Channel is:https://www.youtube.com/@davidhoffmeisterucem

Fresh off the premiere of her new film Now Days, Caroline discusses the incredible evolution of female surfing and what it’s like to travel the world competing against her closest friends and biggest rivals. She dives deep into the "savage mode" mindset required to win, the courage it took to step away from the tour at age 19 to prioritize her mental health, and how she learned to embrace the discomfort of being out of her comfort zone to eventually stand on top of the podium in Paris. Whether you're a surfer or just looking for a spark of motivation, Caroline’s journey of self-belief and tenacity is sure to inspire you to find your own flow state. In this episode: The making of the film Now Days and bringing female surfing to a mainstream audience. The unique camaraderie and rivalry among the world's top female surfers. Growing up as the only girl among four brothers and how it shaped her competitive edge. The transition from Florida to California and the pressure of early professional success. https://programs.the-christ.net/courses/the-way-of-the-mysticDuring this Saturday morning movie gathering, part of the The Way of the Mystic weekend revival titled "Radical acceptance of the guidance: Leave the world behind", David helps the listeners shift the focus of the mind toward recognizing the mental "hypnosis" of the world and the necessity of coming into a deep agreement with oneself to follow the light of truth. In his commentary, David centers on the realization that there is no useful choice in the world of space and time other than the consistent alignment with the Holy Spirit. By looking at the world as a complex projection designed to keep the mind distracted, we can begin to see that our only true investment should be in present guidance. Using the metaphor of a mind trapped in a series of deceptive layers, David highlights how we must learn to see through the "hypnotic" suggestions of the ego. Instead of trying to fix or choose between different aspects of the dream, we are invited to accept a state of radical trust where the script is already written, and our only role is to accept the peace that comes with that recognition.Through this lens, the session explores how important it is to learn the lesson that “only truth is true”: by giving special relationships and personal desires to the Holy Spirit, we forgive the illusions of the ego's worthless gifts, allowing the mind to be led back to the awareness of true Identity as Christ. These gatherings take place every weekend in February and March 2026 and include teachings, films, music, panel discussions, and live Q&A sessions with David Hoffmeister.Register for the Way of the Mystic for free here: https://programs.the-christ.net/courses/the-way-of-the-mysticIf you want to learn more about David Hoffmeister and Living Miracles events, visit https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/events.Recording Date: Online, Saturday, March 7, 2026Follow us on:YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/DavidHoffmeister https://www.youtube.com/@LivingMiraclesFacebook:https://www.facebook.com/ACIM.ACourseInMiracles Learn more about David & Living Miracles:https://circle.livingmiraclescenter.org/eventsLearn more about A Course in Miracles:https://ACIM.bizDavid's Spanish YouTube Channel is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP9Gw00CldPUmiu43y7fdWwDavid's Portuguese YouTube Channel is:https://www.youtube.com/@davidhoffmeisterucem

Andy | John 10:1-102000 years ago a humble carpenter and rabbi became the most influential person to ever walk the face of the earth. So who is this Jesus? The book of John includes seven “I Am” statements from Jesus. In this series we will be looking at how these statements reveal to us who Jesus really is; the Son of God.

'Of course, ‘body ‘and ‘vine' are both metaphors, used to help us imagine a truth, the depth of dependency on each other in Christ, that we would otherwise find impossible to grasp.  Precisely how we are one body, branches of the one true vine, is deeply mysterious to us, but it is like this; like a body, like a vine.  Baptism and Holy Communion enact this spiritual truth, not just as an idea, but as something practical, physical; to do with bodies and not just our minds.'Listen to a reflection for the Third Sunday of Lent by the Reverend Mark Birch, Canon Rector at the Abbey. Each week during Lent, the lectionary explores the life and work of Jesus of Nazareth from the perspective of the Gospel of John. One of the ways that John's gospel identifies what Jesus is like is through his ‘I Am' statements. From ‘I am the bread of life' to ‘I am the Good Shepherd', these seven statements help us learn who Jesus is, and what it means to follow Him as disciples. Our reflections will explore these statements throughout the forty days of this season.

Thank you for listening. 7 new countries added, new, thank you, returning, brave, and patient. I am humbled by that, too; I've got to figure out how to mention you without adding too much time to the podcast. We will, with God's help, figure it out. But for now:We begin each new season with brief reviews of our purpose. Today, we kick off our review with a modified quote, the quote that, it turns out, nobody said. “The price of knowledge is eternal review.” That is an accurate and helpful quote, I know, because I heard it! Our tagline. Growing, Biblical, Dynamic, Sincere, Soul-Satisfying, God-Glorifying Prayer Life.Growing, as in spiritual growth, all the writers of Scripture, John 15, Jesus calling the disciples His friends, is an example of their relationship growth, 1 Peter 2, he says grow, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 growth, is what the scriptures bring, the Hebrews talks of maturity, James 1, 1 John, children, young men, Fathers. We have grown in our conversation. Biblical, the family language, we'll talk about that soon. But we grow in vocabulary and content in our communication with God. Dynamic, real conversation is dynamic. The “Ultimate Lexicon” defines dynamic this way (anything that) “pertaining to processes, forces, or properties characterized by constant change, activity, or progress,” it added energetic.Jesus says, "Each day has enough trouble of its own; that alone will make our prayers dynamic."Sincere, God wants truth from us. Psalm 51:6 “Behold, Thou dost desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part Thou wilt make me know wisdom.” He wants us - not necessarily a script - unless it reveals our innermost being. Soul-satisfying, when I started the podcast, this was the one I spoke of least, thinking it too selfish or self-centered to be valid, but: Luther, Calvin, Knox, Perkins, a guy named Anthony Burgess, stuffy, exacting theologians one and all. Yet all raise the question of the validity of our affections or emotions fostered in prayer. How we are satisfied as we grow in intimacy with our God, through prayer, just remember, you, yes, you are called to pour out your heart to Him, and that is satisfying to our souls.Lastly, our communion: a growing, Biblical, dynamic, sincere, supernaturally soul-satisfying prayer life will be:God-glorifying, he is our adoptive dad who resides in heaven, the creation of which we are a part. We call out “abba Father,” He is the majestic I AM, the only one. He shares His glory with no one else. Our so What? And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. In Colossians 3:17, Paul adds, "Give glory to God” even as we eat or drink, in 1 Corinthians 10. How much more will our prayers result in, and give Him the glory due His name.“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen”1 Timothy 1:17Brethren, let's pray for one another."What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Pastor Matt walked through the longest chapter in John's Gospel, showing how John 6 reveals the difference between crowd-following and true discipleship. The chapter has four major parts: Jesus feeding the 5,000, walking on water, the bread of life discourse, and the words of eternal life. What starts with massive crowds and miracles ends with people walking away confused and offended by Jesus' hard teachings. The feeding of the 5,000 demonstrates that Jesus multiplies what is surrendered to Him, but the crowd wanted a king on their terms - a provider and political liberator, not a Savior. When Jesus walked on water, He revealed His true identity using the sacred name "I AM," showing He's not just a miracle worker but Yahweh in the flesh. In the bread of life discourse, Jesus explained that unlike the manna that sustained physical life temporarily, He is the living bread that gives eternal life. His metaphorical language about eating His flesh and drinking His blood (meaning total dependence on Him through faith, God's Word, prayer, and obedience) caused many to leave. But when Jesus asked the twelve if they wanted to go too, Peter gave the perfect response: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life" (John 6:68). This chapter shows that following Jesus isn't about consumption but faith and trust, and hard teachings reveal real faith because there's ultimately nowhere else to go.

This message introduces the new series "The Great I AM," exploring how Jesus' statements in the Gospel of John reveal both His divine identity and His answer to humanity's deepest needs. From the moment in the garden where Jesus declares "I AM" and soldiers fall back, to the burning bush where God reveals His name to Moses, the message shows that the power of God's name shifts our focus from our limitations to His sufficiency. Christianity is not about earning God's approval through performance but entering a covenant relationship through surrender and trust. Just as Moses had to remove his sandals and respond, "Here I am," believers today are invited to lay down pride, fear, and self-reliance so they can encounter the transforming power of the Great I AM and allow Him to lead their lives.

New Testament Sermons / Speaker:Berry Kercheville I Am the Door of the Sheep, the Good Shepherd John 10:1-21 Introduction: As we read the text before us our first thought might be, “Never have more beautiful words been uttered than these”—“I am the door of the sheepfold; I am the good shepherd.” Those words by Jesus should give us great comfort. However, a more careful examination reveals that in the original context Jesus was offering more than comfort, he was also revealing condemnation. When Jesus says, “I am the door of the sheep…I am the good shepherd,” we must remember that John proclaimed Jesus as the “Word.” With every “I AM” statement, Jesus is revealing the beauty of God, and also the very nature of God. Both statements should alert us to three truths that must be clearly accepted and acted upon by us: We are sheep. It is foolish to think of ourselves any other way. Sheep are extremely vulnerable. They are among the weakest of all farm animals and are completely unable to protect themselves apart from a shepherd. We, however, in contrast do not think of ourselves that way. As Jesus said in the conclusion of chapter 9, we think we see, when we are actually blind.  Without a shepherd, we are without wisdom or direction. Sheep have no idea how to seek good food and water for themselves. On their own, they will starve, become diseased, and die. There is no such thing as “wild sheep” who roam in the open country. We must choose a shepherd to lead us. There are other choices for “shepherds.” Many claim to be shepherds, but there is only Good Shepherd. All us are “hirelings.” Seeing the Movement through the Text As usual, seeing a new chapter division causes us to conclude that we are starting a new event in Jesus' life. But careful reading shows that this is not so. Note the lead up to chapter 10: In chapter 5, Jesus healed a man on the Sabbath who had been in physical bondage to his illness for 38 years. In chapter 6, Jesus took on the escalated role of a new Moses leading a new exodus. He portrays this by not only feeding the people, but also crossing the sea by walking on it, and then proclaiming himself to be the bread of life.  In chapter 7, during the Feast of Tabernacles, and at the time of seventh day when the priests poured out water at the altar and calling to God to give them the abundance of water, Jesus cried out, “If any man thirsts let him come to me and drink…out of his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.”  In chapter 8, Jesus at the same time, proclaimed himself as “the light of the world,” and then followed up in chapter 9 with giving sight to a man born blind,  As we come to the end of chapter 9, we see that Jesus has not only healed the physical sight of the man, but has also brought to spiritual sight. The man was cast out of the synagogue by the Pharisees, and therefore banned him from the flock of Israel. In 9:39, after the confession of belief by the man born blind, Jesus makes a startling statement that his entrance into the world was “for judgment.” That is not that he came “to judge,” but that his entrance created a judgment between those who knew they were blind and needed sight, and those who believed they could see and therefore did not know they were  blind. As you read those final verses of chapter 9, and then into chapter 10, you will recognize immediately that there is no break. Immediately, Jesus answers the Pharisees who had just challenged his statement that they did not recognize their own blindness. The metaphor of “entering the sheepfold by the door,” and “I am the door to sheep.”  With this metaphor, Jesus speaks of a communal sheepfold that was common in the city. A large enclosed area was provided in which many different flocks of sheep were housed. There was one entrance guarded by a doorkeeper who knew the different shepherds and would only allow a true shepherd to enter. Once inside a shepherd would call his sheep, and only his sheep would respond by gathering to him. He would then lead them out and they would follow because they knew his voice. In this picture, Jesus is speaking of how one would enter this sheepfold. The only legitimate way to enter was by the door. Anyone attempting to enter another way was a thief and a robber In the second picture Jesus speaks of a temporary sheepfold that would commonly be set up for the night out in the open field. This sheepfold consisted of four walls but no door. Once the sheep were inside the enclosure and night had fallen the shepherd would lay down at the entrance of the enclosure. He literally became the door of the sheepfold. No sheep could enter or leave except through him. And no wolf or robber could enter except over his body. A true shepherd would never leave that post and leave the sheep unattended. [remember David killing the lion and bear?] But a hireling, one who was in it just for pay and did not love the sheep, would flee and save his own life at the first sign of danger. A true shepherd would literally die protecting the sheep. If the sheep were stolen or destroyed it would only be after he had given his life. In both illustrations Jesus has placed Himself squarely in contrast to the Jewish leaders as to who was the true shepherd of the flock. They were not true shepherds and did not care for the sheep. Their only interest was self-interest. They neither entered by the door of the sheepfold (were not true to God’s teachings), nor did they care for the sheep like a true shepherd. Those who followed them were not of the Lord’s flock, while those who would not hear their voice [blind man] but instead heard the voice of the Lord were of the true flock. It was no surprise that they cast out the healed blind man or that this man followed Jesus. They were not the good shepherds and he refused to hear their voice. The Primary Message in the Context Making the connection between chapters 9 and 10 allows us to see the message Jesus is giving the Pharisees. Jesus is exposing the serious condition of the Pharisees and everyone else who remains blind while they think the see.  As with the Pharisees, when a person thinks he sees, he is like a lamb who decides he can explore any part of the countryside he desires. Some sheep, and most people, think they will be fine exploring whatever they desire. Their thoughts and their ways become their shepherd. Cf. Isaiah 55:8-9. Therefore, Jesus is proclaiming that you cast this blind man out of your sheepfold because you are a thief and a robber. He has now not only entered another sheepfold, but he actually entered by the door of the sheepfold. We must hear the message today. There is only one sheepfold and there is only one door to that sheepfold, and that is Jesus. There is no other!  We often see Christians “slipping, falling away, turning in other directions, and generally no longer fully trusting in the Shepherd. The simple question is, where do you think you are going? You leave the shepherd and the sheepfold and you will lose life. You will die.  Verse 11 “I am the good shepherd.” Contrast verse 10, “The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy.” Jesus is the good shepherd, not a good shepherd. Jesus is clearly calling on us to choose! There is a choice. Which will you choose? Ask yourself, what happened to those leaders? What happened to the Pharisees? What happened to the Jewish nation? They followed other shepherds and they were destroyed…brutally!  The Message for Us: The Sheep Hear His Voice  That is what is unique about sheep: they follow the voice of their shepherd, and they not only will listen to his voice, they will flee from a stranger—any other potential shepherd. What is a stranger? What is another shepherd? Paul said in well in Ephesians 2:2, we followed “the course of this world, the prince of the power of the air.” Most people, and even some who call themselves Christians, do not know who they are following. If it is not the good shepherd, it is the devil. When I read this the first thing I think of is, as dumb as sheep are, in this regard, they are smarter than us. Listen to the good shepherd.  How do you know if you are in the good shepherd's flock? You hear his voice! Please remember, Jesus is talking to the most religious people of his day. We often meet people who are very sincere in their beliefs. But sincerity is not the test. Do they hear his voice, or are they ignoring his voice and following their own voices? This is simple identity question. Follow his voice and you are his sheep. Don't follow it, and you are not his sheep. Verse 3 “…he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.” This is not, “Hey, you all can come out now!” He calls each by name. A shepherd would have a certain “voice” he would use for each animal. Jesus knows us individually. He is calling you, specifically you. Will you follow? Verse 14, “I know my own and my own know me.”  Principle: Shepherds lead, they do not drive the flock!  Shepherds must be decisive concerning the direction and needs of the flock.  It is the reason they are “elders.” They are expected to have greater wisdom and greater experience than the flock. The flock is able to lie down when the elders lead and take the flock where they ought to go. When the children of Israel wanted to go back to Egypt, Moses didn't take a vote. The question is not what would the congregation like to do. The question is, what is the best for the spiritual welfare of the church! Many elders of churches have told me that after COVID, the church got accustomed to not meeting Sunday evening, so we went along. Really? You didn't answer the question of where you are leading this church and how will meeting less enhance our spiritual growth. The sinfulness of shepherds who think they are cowboys. Your flock are sheep, not cows. Matthew 20:25. The Value of Following: “I Am the Door…the Good Shepherd” Those who enter will “go in and out.” — They are always safe; the wolf cannot touch them. The good shepherd is always there. 10: “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Jesus is the only path to life, that is, true abundant living. He is not just talking about eternity, that abundant life is even being tasted now. 13-14: Jesus is the only one who cares for the flock. Only Jesus can be trusted with our lives. “He knows his own.”  15: Jesus lays down his life for the sheep. “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32) 17: Jesus lays down his life so that he could give and attain an even greater life. Conclusion: It is almost humorous to read in verse 20 that some heard this and said, “He has a demon, and is insane.” No, insanity is living without the Good Shepherd.  Berry Kercheville The post John 10:1-21 I Am the Door of the Sheep, the Good Shepherd appeared first on Woodland Hills Church of Christ.

In this episode, I introduce an analogy that will help you begin to understand one of the deepest teachings in the work we do together: remembering who you truly are beyond the mind, the body, and the identity you believe yourself to be.But before we get there, I open with something curious that has been happening recently - a series of strange glitches across the internet. Recaptcha failures, payment systems behaving oddly, websites looping without explanation, automated systems issuing refunds that become additional charges, and even this very podcast platform failing to publish an episode on schedule. All of this occurred within just a few days. Whether these are simple technical glitches or signs of a rapidly evolving digital world, they serve as a reminder of something important: what we perceive as reality is often less stable than we assume. From there, we move into the heart of the episode.I begin by guiding you through a short moment of inquiry: if your eyes are not truly “seeing” and your brain is only predicting what it expects based on the past, then what is it that is actually perceiving the world? To explore that question, I introduce what I call the three layers of the not-self - the layers through which consciousness is filtered in our human experience. The first layer is the physical layer, the body and the five senses. This is the most obvious filter and the one most people believe themselves to be.The second layer is the mental layer - the film of conditioning, identity, beliefs, and past experiences. This is the narrative we tell ourselves about who we are and how the world works. The third layer is the energetic layer, the subtle field that influences how we feel around others and how we are drawn into certain relationships and experiences. Frameworks like Human Design, astrology, and other energetic systems help describe this layer. To bring all of this together, I offer the movie projector analogy.Imagine a projector in a theater. The screen represents the physical world. The film represents the mind and its conditioning. The lens represents the energetic layer that subtly shapes how the film is projected. But none of these are who you are.You are the light itself - the source illuminating the entire projection.Your consciousness passes through the energetic lens, through the mental film, and finally appears on the screen as the physical world you experience. This is why two people can witness the same event and describe it completely differently. Each person is projecting their own film. The deeper teaching of self-realization is recognizing that you are not the screen, not the film, and not even the lens. You are the light. And when you begin to inquire deeply - asking the question “Who am I?” - the answer that remains after all labels and identities fall away is simple:I Am.In the next episode, I'll offer another analogy that pushes even further into this understanding and helps you move closer to direct realization of your true nature.Until then, brothers - elevate your alpha.
