Their viewership numbers are sinking, and a lot of legacy news ******** think adopting on-trend vibes will attract the youth demo. Viewership might be down 'cause y'all gloss over the real terrible news for lower stakes terrible news (street crime, cultural differences, internal strife, dip****s yelling at each other). And then we're unceremoniously dumped into **** pills and gambling commercials. Only to return to telegenic faces talking odds or betting lines related to the scary stories… And a minute later, drop “Stan” into a gush over a notable wedding. We're not being informed, we're being sold something.Bahahaha—Soapbox! Look at that ambience gentleman shout into the void again! Btw, I told y'all I changed my creator name again, right? I am now the “ambience gentleman.” It didn't feel right affixing a “Dr.” to my fictional moniker (as I am not a doctor). (Asked my daughter if I used “yeet” correctly—she said, “Kinda'?”)See—in The Tommyknockers, there's this lady character named Bobbi, and she is the heart of the book (until she isn't).The former lover guy pal character, whom I'm sure King wanted to be likable (isn't)—that guy swings in to rescue humanity by catching smoke with humans morphing into space-mogging chimeras. What do concussions, Mexico City, a $2,000 foldable iPhone, midnight margaritas, tanning beds and a robot vacuum catching an alleged cheater have in common?Absolutely nothing.So naturally, we put them together.This three-episode collection of The Rizzuto Show combines some spectacularly unrelated conversations into one giant funny podcast featuring physical trauma, international rock-star adventures, technological betrayal, relationship debates and enough questionable judgment to keep everybody employed for at least one more morning.The chaos begins with a simple question: has anyone on the show ever been knocked out cold?Moon recalls childhood injuries and the 219 stitches he's had in his head and face, along with moments when a hard impact made everything go black. Rafe remembers a helmet-to-helmet football collision that left him seeing lights before collapsing. Lern doesn't think she was ever fully knocked unconscious, although her cousins apparently made a respectable effort when they were kids.Meanwhile, Rizz reveals that his social-media algorithm has correctly identified his primary interests as cooking videos and watching people get absolutely demolished.Personalized technology is beautiful.From there, Moon returns from Mexico City after performing with Goldfinger at Warped Tour. He describes roughly 40,000 people packed in front of their stage, with more than 150,000 tickets sold for the event overall. Mexico City's altitude makes performing an adventure of its own, but Moon comes back raving about the crowd, the people, the food and the sheer size of a city that seemingly never ends.There are chilaquiles. There are frijoles. There's an extremely nice hotel. There are also security precautions involving verified drivers and discussions of kidnapping risks, because apparently touring internationally occasionally requires more preparation than “bring your guitar.”Moon also gets reflective about the wealth disparity he saw and how traveling outside your normal bubble can violently reset your perspective.Then everybody talks airports, TSA rules and the possibility of approved non-ticketed visitors eventually being allowed back through security at select airports. This leads directly into old airport nostalgia, Global Entry complaints, confiscated toiletries and all the other tiny indignities we accept because somebody once decided 3.5 ounces of shampoo represents chaos.Lern then takes us into another terrifying environment:Youth baseball.After attending her best friend's son's game, she reports back on parents blocking views with tents, adults getting way too emotionally invested and one dad loudly criticizing his own kid while the kid is trying to hit.The crew gets into overbearing sports parents, adults attempting to relive their glory days through children, screaming at referees and umpires, and the incredible ability of youth athletics to turn otherwise functional adults into people who believe a 12-year-old's batting average determines the family legacy.And somehow that still isn't the weirdest concert-related story.At an outdoor gig, Lern encounters an audience member who brings their own guitar AND a battery-powered amplifier, sets up in front of the band and simply starts playing along.Not invited.Not hired.Not remotely part of the band.Just spiritually promoted themselves.Honestly, that confidence should be studied.Then another episode brings us the reported foldable Apple iPhone and the greatest civil-rights battle nobody expected: left-handed people versus phone design.The show discusses complaints that the foldable phone's layout is significantly friendlier to right-handed users. Moon's position is compassionate and nuanced:The world is built for right-handed people. Deal with it.Rizz responds by digging into supposed advantages of being left-handed in sports, creativity and other areas, which somehow becomes a discussion of famous lefties, presidents and Professor Lern's historically questionable theories.Her future college course remains undefeated:“Things I Think, But Can't Prove.”Everybody passes.The funny podcast then transforms into a movie-review program nobody requested.Lern and her mom go see Practical Magic 2 dressed as witches and discover they are apparently the only people who received the imaginary costume memo. Fortunately, they have midnight margaritas and commit to the bit.Lern enjoys the movie. What happens when Apple makes a $2,000 foldable phone that apparently hates left-handed people?You get 43 minutes of The Rizzuto Show doing what it does best: taking one mildly ridiculous topic and driving it directly into left-handed presidents, witch costumes, midnight margaritas, Mortal Kombat nostalgia, creepy horror movies, celebrity gossip and an AI-generated Eminem song that fools 100,000 people.Just another productive morning.Episode 32 begins with the show discussing reports and early reviews of Apple's foldable “iPhone Duo,” including complaints that its design is much friendlier to right-handed users. The hinge, rounded edges and relocated controls supposedly create an awkward experience if you insist on holding the phone with your left hand.Moon's response?The world is built for right-handed people. Get over it.And with that, our comedy show launches into an investigation of whether left-handed people might actually have the better deal everywhere else.Rizz runs through supposed advantages for lefties in baseball, tennis, boxing, fencing, complex math, art, music and even language recovery after certain brain injuries. The crew gets into famous lefties like Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Bill Gates and Oprah, along with the surprisingly large number of left-handed presidents.This also gives Lern an opportunity to provide several historical theories that absolutely nobody should put on an exam.Her future college course already has a name: “Things I Think, But Can't Prove.”Everybody passes.Then the episode turns into movie-review central when Lern reports back from Practical Magic 2.She and her mom went to the theater dressed as witches, expecting to find an entire coven waiting for them.There was no coven.They were the witches.Fortunately, midnight margaritas were involved, so dignity was never really part of the evening.Lern gives the movie an 8 out of 10 and talks about its humor, heart, nostalgia and emotional moments. Karl Urban shows up as Johnny Cage, the cheese level rises appropriately, and Moon happily returns to being a Mortal Kombat nerd.Then everybody puts on their extremely unofficial film-critic hats for Obsession and Backrooms.The crew discusses Obsession and its wonderfully simple premise: a guy uses a magical “One Wish Willow” to wish that a woman would love him more than anything else in the world.Great idea.Surely nothing horrifying could happen there.Moon likes how the movie plays with recognizable feelings of love and infatuation before pushing them into increasingly disturbing territory, while Rafe appreciates the simplicity of the magical object that kicks everything off.Then Moon describes Backrooms as this generation's The Blair Witch Project — built around internet lore, liminal spaces, camcorder-style filmmaking, anticipation and the jump-scare language younger audiences grew up with through games like Five Nights at Freddy's.Rizz also squeezes in the Mr. T documentary because apparently we're running a multiplex now.Then it's time for Crap on Celebrities, and this comedy show somehow gets even busier.The transcript gets into Lady Gaga reportedly appearing with a newborn alongside fiancé Michael Polansky, possible new music from My Chemical Romance, Oasis teasing an announcement, and the show's ongoing investment in whether Ella Langley can knock Mariah Carey off a chart record.Naturally, the crew's proposed strategy is simply to play “Choosin' Texas” continuously until Mariah's Christmas empire collapses.We also get entertainment talk involving The Odyssey, Alan Ritchson, Helen Mirren embracing AI for quick medical questions, and the wonderfully specific revelation that Mirren once lamented Kurt Cobain never getting to experience GPS.Forget the music he never made.The man never got turn-by-turn directions.That's apparently the tragedy.Dakota Johnson and Machine Gun Kelly dating rumors send Rafe into emotional distress because he has had enough of MGK getting involved with attractive women. On this week's short but sweet Talkhouse episode—I might even call it a mini-sode—we've got a couple of guys at interesting points in their interesting careers. Both have been flirtatious with the mainstream, but not exactly in it. It's Jakob Nowell and Yelawolf.  Jakob Nowell was still an infant when his dad, Bradley Nowell, died at just 28. Bradley was the frontman for the Southern California band Sublime, whose music would go on to reach a much wider audience not long after his death. The other two members of Sublime continued with a different singer, with varying degrees of success, while Jakob Nowell grew up and starting making music on his own. A couple of years back, Jakob got together with his dad's old bandmates and reignited Sublime again—and the fact that his voice sounds remarkably like his dad's made it a welcome transition for the band's fans. This new Sublime recorded an album, which they say will be the band's last, and they tour and play like crazy, including owning their own festival packed with reggae and punk-tinged fellow travelers. Those fellow travelers include the other half of today's conversation, Yelawolf, who will play a bunch of shows with Sublime this year, including the band's cruise in November and a big amphitheater in Alabama next week. There aren't many musicians who can claim collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Eminem, Travis Barker, A$AP Rocky and Tech 9, but the Nashville-based rapper can. He's been around for a long time, and has always seemed like a musical seeker. His next album, 45, is coming out later this year, and it reportedly features no rapping at all. I caught these guys on a busy day and they didn't chat very long, but I still felt like there was enough there to share: They chat about hanging out backstage with superstars at the Aftershock Festival, about potentially collaborating in the future—they even have a dream third member of their trio in mind—and about Jakob's emotional trips to the last venue his father ever played. Whatever type of music you love, Rick Rubin has probably left his mark on it. Rubin, a founder of Def Jam Recordings and a former co-chairman of Columbia Records, might be the most influential music producer alive. A very partial roll call of the artists he's worked with: Johnny Cash, Jay-Z, Run-DMC, Eminem, Beastie Boys, Slayer, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West, Neil Diamond, Brandi Carlile and Adele. We recorded this in 2023, after Rubin released a fascinating, unusual book, “The Creative Act: A Way of Being.” I'd expected stories of late-night sessions with famous musicians, but instead it read like a spiritual tract. Rubin was offering a guide to how to cultivate the mind states that lead to real creativity. And that's what this conversation was about, too: how to open yourself up more to the world, and learn to trust your own taste. Rubin's advice feels more relevant with each passing year, as technology gets ever better at hacking our attention and the world fills with A.I. slop. So I wanted to share this episode again. Show Notes Should an acute lower-extremity DVT automatically stop mobility when anticoagulation is subtherapeutic? In this episode, Dr. Leo Arguelles and Dr. Nicole Neveau speak with Aubrey Little, PT, DPT, CCS, and Becky Johnson, PT, DPT, PhD, about the clinical question that grew from a quality-improvement project into a case-control study published in the Journal of Acute Care Physical Therapy. Little and Johnson explain why a single laboratory value or protocol checkpoint cannot replace a comprehensive assessment. They discuss weighing the risks of immobility against potential adverse events while considering clot location, medical acuity, hemodynamic status, medications, laboratory trends, discharge pressures and the patient's overall trajectory. The conversation also explores the documentation needed to make clinical reasoning visible and the value of bidirectional conversations with the interdisciplinary team. The study included 30 patients and 60 physical therapy sessions. Its findings do not establish that mobilization at subtherapeutic anticoagulation is universally safe. The researchers emphasize the limitations of a small retrospective sample and their inability to determine whether pulmonary embolism occurred. Instead, the episode offers a thoughtful look at risk stratification, evidence-informed judgment and how clinicians can question automatic holds without abandoning patient safety. She had heard the suggestions before, the recommendations to do something about it before it got worse and created excessive fatigue. But the time had come. Liva was guided by the acclaimed yet demanding instructor Malte Burba, showing her breathing and muscle-building techniques that embraced the full body, not just the lips, mouth and lungs. Which led to Liva spending a solid three months practicing with only a mouthpiece, while her new classmates were progressing with her studies. Undoubtedly a test of perseverance and commitment! Liva compares her training to that of an athlete, who must see the bigger picture and the ultimate trajectory, particularly during the repetitive and even painful days of practice and repetition. Fortunately for her, and all of us, her commitment has led to a burgeoning career in jazz music, and the debut of her first album, Unbalanced, featuring a mixture of original compositions and interpretations. About Liva Strazdina: Līva Strazdiņa, born in 1997 in Berlin with Latvian roots, combines depth, expression and a clear personal tone in her music. After studying jazz trumpet as her main instrument at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden, with teachers including Sebastian Studnitzky, Malte Burba, Simon Harrer and Till Brönner, she developed a distinctive musical language marked by intense melodic writing and a fine balance between energy and intimacy. As a trumpeter and flugelhornist, she chooses her instrument deliberately based on mood and tone color. Alongside numerous ensemble projects, big band experience, awards and tours including the Berlin Youth Jazz Orchestra, studio recordings with LaJJazzO and tours with the indie band BEACHPEOPLE, Līva is also active as a composer. Her music reflects not only influences from jazz greats such as Miles Davis and Freddie Hubbard, but also singer songwriters like Billy Joel and pop icons like Pink Floyd and Eminem. With her debut album, Līva shares her innermost thoughts and feelings. The album invites listeners to immerse themselves in these emotions and reflect on their own emotional world.
