Katie sits down with Jamie Anderson in New York City at the Team USA 100 Days Out Media Summit for a wide-ranging conversation ahead of the Winter Olympics. Jamie reflects on her journey as the most decorated snowboarder in Olympic history, what inspired her comeback after becoming a mom of two, and how watching the Paris Olympics and Simone Biles reignited something she thought might be done. She opens up about balancing motherhood and elite competition, traveling internationally with young kids, redefining identity after years at the top, and following what lights her heart on fire rather than chasing expectations. Calm, honest, and deeply reflective, this episode offers a different perspective on longevity, purpose, and doing sport on your own terms.-----Subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast platform, and follow us on social media (https://linktr.ee/unfilteredwaters) for clips, bonus content, and updates throughout the week.-----FOLLOW KATIE ON:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kthoff7/-----FOLLOW MISSY ON:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/missyfranklin88/-----SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSIM8health.com/discount/unfiltered for 10% offdreamrecovery.io use code UNFILTEREDTHIRTY for 30% off-----#UnfilteredWaters #SportsPodcast #JamieAnderson

The Fact: Those are Figure Skating jumps. In competitive Ice Dancing, athletes are actually forbidden from performing these types of multi-rotation jumps. It is a common mix-up, but the two are separate disciplines! Surfing as a “One-Off” Showcase The Claim: Andrew thought Surfing was a one-time showcase sport for the Summer Olympics, similar to breakdancing. The Fact: Unlike breakdancing (which was only for Paris 2024), Surfing is a permanent Olympic sport. It debuted in Tokyo 2020, appeared in Paris 2024, and is already confirmed for the Los Angeles 2028 Games. The History of Ski Jumping The Claim: Luke suggested that ski jumping started at the Calgary 1988 Olympics with Eddie the Eagle. The Fact: Ski jumping is actually one of the original Winter Olympic sports. It has been in every Winter Games since the very first one in 1924 (Chamonix, France)—64 years before the Calgary Games. When the Games “Staggered” (The 2-Year Gap) The Claim: Andrew and Luke discussed the Games being “staggered” (Summer and Winter in different years) starting after 1988. The Fact: The change actually happened after 1992. Both the Summer and Winter Games were held in 1992 (Albertville and Barcelona). The first time the Winter Olympics were held in their own separate year was Lillehammer 1994. Canada's 2010 Gold Medal Record The Claim: Luke estimated that Canada won about 10 gold medals in Vancouver 2010. The Fact: Canada actually won 14 gold medals in 2010. At the time, this set a world record for the most gold medals ever won by a single country at any Winter Olympics.

On fait le point sur une découverte paléontologique assez incroyable dans les Alpes italiennes. We're taking stock of a quite incredible paleontological discovery in the Italian Alps.Alors, imaginez un peu. So, just imagine.Juste à côté du futur site des Jeux Olympiques d'hiver de 2026, des chercheurs ont trouvé un champ d'empreintes de dinosaures. Right next to the future site of the 2026 Winter Olympics, researchers found a field of dinosaur footprints. On parle de l'un des plus importants au monde, vieux de plus de 200 millions d'années. We are talking about one of the most important in the world, more than 200 million years old.Alors, qu'est-ce qu'il faut retenir? So, what should we remember?Premièrement, c'est l'ampleur de la trouvaille. Firstly, it is the scale of the find.Le site se trouve dans le Parc National du Stelvio et il s'étend sur des centaines de mètres. The site is located in the Stelvio National Park and stretches over hundreds of meters.C'est un photographe qui l'a repéré sur une paroi rocheuse super abrupte. It was a photographer who spotted it on a very steep rock face.On parle de traces qui ont 210 millions d'années. We're talking about traces that are 210 million years old.C'est juste énorme. It's just huge.Deuxièmement, les dinosaures qu'on a identifiés. Secondly, the dinosaurs that have been identified.La majorité des empreintes, qui peuvent atteindre 40 centimètres quand même, et bien elles appartiennent à des Prosaauropodes. The majority of the footprints, which can still reach 40 centimeters, well, they belong to Prosauropods.Ils se déplaçaient sur deux pattes et avec de sacrées griffes. They moved on two legs and had serious claws.Selon le paléontologue Cristiano Dal Sasso, l'organisation des traces n'est pas du tout un hasard. According to the paleontologist Cristiano Dal Sasso, the organization of the traces is not at all a coincidence. On voit des empreintes parallèles, ce qui suggère des troupeaux se déplaçant de manière synchronisée. We see parallel footprints, which suggests herds moving in a synchronized manner.En bref, cette découverte c'est bien plus que de simples fossiles, c'est une véritable fenêtre sur la vie sociale de ces dinosaures. In short, this discovery is much more than simple fossils, it is a real window into the social life of these dinosaurs. Hébergé par Acast. Visitez acast.com/privacy pour plus d'informations.

Francesca Rudkin: 2025 saw great athletic success but NZ sport needs soul searching

At this time of the year it's nice to reflect on some of the good things that happened throughout the year, and just days ago the nominees for the 63rd Halberg Awards were announced. There have been some huge moments in sport this year - from world championships to domestic and international recognition, and the annual Halberg Awards nominations provide a snapshot of the breadth of Kiwi achievement. What's really cool to see is how track and field athletics, snow sports and a wonderfully mixed collection of other sports dominate the list of contenders for top honours. It's been a year where individuals have excelled and teams have done pretty well, but suffered from inconsistency. I'd like to thank Geordie Beamish, nominated for Sportsman of the Year, for providing us all with the best feel good moments of the year. At the World Athletic Championships in Tokyo he survived a fall in the 3000m steeplechase semi-final, during which a rival stood on his face, and still managed to come in second. I thought that was going to be my most viewed sports video of 2025 – but it was surpassed days later by watching Beamish in the final become the first New Zealander to ever win track gold at a world athletics championships. It still makes me smile just thinking about the end of that race. His ‘late kick' is a life lesson on finishing well. Along with the extraordinary talented Hamish Kerr, who had another stellar year, and the success of emerging superstar Sam Ruthe, we've seen a genuine resurgence in New Zealand athletics. Alpine and snowboarders are well represented among the finalists, thanks to elite performances on international circuits. Alpine ski racer Alice Robinson is on fire at present, and I'm told by those in the know that freeskiers Luca Harrington, nominated in the Sportsman of the Year category, and Finley Melville Ives, nominated in the Emerging category, are very much medal contenders heading into the Winter Olympics next year. But amongst all the highlights there's also some soul searching – or maybe CEO searching - that needs to be done in 2026. The resignations of three high-profile CEOs in major sports — New Zealand Rugby's Mark Robinson, Netball New Zealand's Jennie Wyllie, and New Zealand Cricket's Scott Weenink, mark a significant shake-up in national sporting leadership in 2025. Robinson's departure from NZ Rugby follows years of navigating commercial and structural change within the sport. In one of the biggest and messiest stories of the year, Wyllie's exit from Netball NZ has prompted calls for greater transparency, and reflection of both governance and performance, particularly in light of contentious decisions about coaching roles. And in Cricket, Weenink stepped down after public disputes over the sport's direction, especially regarding the future of domestic T20 formats - suggesting there are deep strategic disagreements about how the game should evolve in New Zealand. Clearly there's some uncertainty ahead for three of our biggest sporting codes, but these changes also bring opportunities, a chance for fresh vision and leadership and, hopefully, better entertainment and performances for fans. In the meantime, congratulations to all the Halberg nominees. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode Title: "Throwing Daleks Out the Window" - Resurrection of the Daleks Review with The Irredeemable Shag SPECIAL GUEST ALERT: The Irredeemable Shag joins from the Fire & Water Podcast Network for what he calls "The Tegan Jovanka Appreciation Podcast!" A lifelong Davison-era fan who started watching in 1982 at age 10, Shag brings 500+ Doctor Who books worth of knowledge and passionate defense of the Fifth Doctor era. THE STORY: "Resurrection of the Daleks" (February 1984) Writer: Eric Saward (script editor writing his own script) Director: Matthew Robinson Originally filmed as 4-parter, edited to two 45-minute episodes due to Winter Olympics scheduling London 1984 meets space station carnage as the Daleks attack a prison holding Davros in cryogenic suspension. With duplicates, time corridors, Commander Lytton's creepy constables, and the Movellan virus, this becomes the most violent Doctor Who story yet - estimated 70+ deaths! THE BIG QUESTIONS: Should the Doctor Have Killed Davros? The hosts debate the story's central moral dilemma when the Doctor picks up a gun to execute Davros. Jim declares it completely out of character ("That's not the Doctor"). Shag argues Eric Saward wrote declarative statements without explanation. John appreciates the Genesis of the Daleks callback but questions the execution. The Batman/Joker parallels emerge - can heroes cross that line? Terry Nation's Absence: Nation is in America (possibly producing MacGyver) but still approving everything. JNT reveals Nation insisted Davros appear in every Dalek story after Genesis. This is the fourth non-Nation Dalek script (after Whitaker's two, Lewis Marks, and now Saward). The Dalek Civil War Begins: First time Daleks mention Gallifrey! Is this the Time War's origin? The Supreme Dalek versus Davros's renegade faction sets up ongoing Classic Who Dalek continuity. SHAG'S BREAKTHROUGH THEORY: "This is not a Doctor Who story at all. This is the Daleks - which just happens to guest star the Doctor this episode. If you think of this as an ongoing series of Dalek stories where the Doctor guest stars, this whole thing makes perfect sense." The theory revolutionizes the hosts' perspective, raising ratings across the board! ICONIC MOMENTS: Daleks thrown out second-story windows (exploding unnecessarily but fantastically) "My vision is impaired! I cannot see!" Davros going "full spitting Hitler" The Doctor bloodthirstily shooting the Kaled mutant Creepy constables casually slaughtering then chitchatting Stein's stutter disappearing when programming activates That unfortunate foam party when Davros releases the Movellan virus TEGAN'S DEPARTURE - UNIVERSAL AGREEMENT: All three hosts agree: Tegan is completely justified leaving after this massacre. "It's stopped being fun, Doctor." The emotional farewell works despite Jim's overall Tegan fatigue. Janet Fielding's performance is universally praised. The "Braveheart Tegan" callback and the Doctor's "I must mend my ways" provide powerful closure. Shag's observation: JNT specifically chose an emotional departure for Janet after knowing two companions were leaving, wanting each exit to feel different. How an international skiing scene developed in the mountains of Bamiyan province in 2011. Long: In 2011, the rugged mountains of Bamiyan Province in central Afghanistan became the backdrop of something as unlikely as it was uplifting-an international ski scene. As Bamiyan was then relatively safe for tourists, a new travel agency, supported by a development NGO, started offering holidays to skiers seeking a unique adventure. A ski school was also set up for locals who were keen to learn, including Alishah Farhang, who went on to become one of Afghanistan's top skiers. In 2022 he spoke to Viv Jones, about how his hopes of competing in the Winter Olympics were shattered by the return of the Taliban. Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive and testimony. Sporting Witness is for those fascinated by sporting history. We take you to the events that have shaped the sports world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes, you become a fan in the stands as we take you back in time to examine memorable victories and agonising defeats from all over the world. You'll hear from people who have achieved sporting immortality, or those who were there as incredible sporting moments unfolded.Recent episodes explore the forgotten football Women's World Cup, the plasterer who fought a boxing legend, international football's biggest ever beating and the man who swam the Amazon river. We look at the lives of some of the most famous F1 drivers, tennis players and athletes as well as people who've had ground-breaking impact in their chosen sporting field, including: the most decorated Paralympian, the woman who was the number 1 squash player in the world for nine years, and the first figure skater to wear a hijab. Whoever said quitters never win never met Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu. Liu quit figure skating after the 2022 Winter Olympics. At age 16, she was burned out and wanted to be a normal teenager.  "I was done a year before I quit. I knew I wanted to be done way before I actually announced my retirement," Liu said. For two years, Liu embraced life as a teenager, making up for lost time she'd spent on the ice. She got a driver's license, drove her four siblings to school, stayed up late and hung out with friends. She traveled for fun instead of competitions and even hiked in the Himalayas. She enrolled at UCLA and even took up skiing, a sport she'd never had time to try as an elite figure skater. She loved the feel of the cold air on her face when she was skiing. It reminded her of skating and two years after retiring, Alysa went to a local rink with a friend. Alysa started skating for fun, and it wasn't long before she got the itch to skate more seriously. She called a former coach, Phillip DiGuglielmo, and asked him what he thought about her coming out of retirement. At first, he wasn't a fan. "I said, 'Please don't. I really did.'  I said, 'Please don't. Respect your legacy,'" DiGuglielmo said. "We had a Zoom call for two hours. The story is I had a lot of glasses of wine over those two hours. And she talked me into a comeback." The two started training together, and seven months later, Liu won a world title in a sport she left as a child but returned to as an adult. On this Dying to Ask, The Road to Milan-Cortina: The power of taking a break Re-thinking how we look at the role age plays in sports like figure skating A frank look at what young teen athletes give up to be the best in their sport and the impact that can have long-term on mental health And why Alysa's coach thinks she could pull off a two-year gap in training and emerge stronger than ever   Other places to listen CLICK HERE to listen on iTunes CLICK HERE to listen on Stitcher CLICK HERE to listen on Spotify See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel

SHOW 12-5-25 CBS EYE ON THE WORLD WITH JOHN BATCHELOR 1940 PITTSBURGH THE SHOW BEGINS IN THE DOUBTS ABOUT INFLATION. FIRST HOUR 9-915 Infrastructure Booms and Business Exoduses in the West: Colleague Jeff Bliss reports that high-speed rail construction from Los Angeles to Las Vegas is accelerating in anticipation of the 2028 Olympics, while the Boring Company expands tunnel networks; conversely, California faces corruption scandals and business flights, and Oregon sees companies like Columbia Sportswear struggle with the business climate. 915-930 Milan Prepares for Christmas and the Olympics: Colleague Lorenzo Fiori reports that Milan celebrates St. Ambrose Day with traditional markets and lights, marking the start of the holiday season, as the city prepares to host the Winter Olympics in February 2026, with cultural events including the La Scala premiere of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and the enjoyment of Panettone. 930-945 Supreme Court Enables Partisan Gerrymandering: Colleague Richard Epstein discusses the Supreme Court permitting Texas to redraw congressional districts for 2026, favoring Republicans, arguing that lack of oversight allows parties to entrench power, creating extreme polarization where "reds become redder and blues become bluer," making legislative compromise nearly impossible. 945-1000 Scrutiny Over Lethal Strike on Drug Boat: Colleague Richard Epstein examines Defense Secretary Hegseth facing pressure regarding a lethal strike on alleged drug traffickers in the Caribbean, with reports suggesting survivors may have been shot in the water, asserting that murdering surrendered individuals violates the laws of war, regardless of whether the targets were smugglers. SECOND HOUR 10-1015 Lancaster County Shows Consumer Fatigue: Colleague Jim McTague reports that retailers in Lancaster are using deep discounts to attract price-sensitive shoppers, noting that while weekend traffic is decent, weekdays are slow and high-end dining is struggling, with the job market tightening significantly as skilled labor demands vanish, suggesting consumers are "running out of disposable income". 1015-1030 Future Tech and Economic Shifts: Colleague Jim McTague predicts "creative destruction" where old industries fade, expressing bullishness on solar power due to data center demands and envisioning self-driving cars and useful humanoid robots revolutionizing daily life, with rate cuts expected in 2026 as consumers rebuild savings after a period of spending. C 1030-1045 Private Space Sector Challenges and Triumphs: Colleague Bob Zimmerman reports that Jared Isaacman testified that private companies, not NASA, are driving space colonization; a Russian cosmonaut was removed from a SpaceX mission for spying, while China successfully tested a reusable rocket; additionally, Boeing faces legal challenges from crash victims' families, and activists oppose Blue Origin's operations. 1045-1100 New Discoveries Challenge Cosmic Models: Colleague Bob Zimmerman reports that ground-based telescopes have directly imaged exoplanets and debris discs, the James Webb Telescope found a barred spiral galaxy in the early universe defying evolutionary models, scientists discovered organic sugars on asteroid Bennu, and admits solar cycle predictions have been consistently incorrect. THIRD HOUR 1100-1115 The Early Church Headquarters on Mount Zion: Colleague James Tabor discusses archaeology on Mount Zion revealing a first-century foundation beneath a medieval church, likely the headquarters of the early movement, describing this as the home where James led the church and Mary hosted pilgrims, with Mary possibly living long enough to witness James's martyrdom. 1115-1130 The Historical Disappearance of Mary: Colleague James Tabor explains that following the crucifixion, Mary disappears from the biblical record, likely dying before the 70 AD destruction of Jerusalem; while early Christians fled to Pella under Simon's leadership, traditions suggest Mary died on Mount Zion, with Tabor arguing she was "written out" of the story by later traditions. 1130-1145 The Talpiot Tomb and Ossuary Evidence: Colleague James Tabor discusses a tomb discovered in 1980 containing ossuaries with a unique cluster of names, including Jesus, Maria, and Jose, suggesting this could be the Jesus family tomb, supported by statistical analysis and an ossuary inscribed "James son of Joseph brother of Jesus," with new DNA testing underway. 1145-1200 Mary's Influence on Early Christian Teachings: Colleague James Tabor examines the "Q" source containing teachings shared by Matthew and Luke that parallel the words of James and John the Baptist, positing that Mary, as the mother, was the source of this shared wisdom, arguing that historians must reclaim her humanity and influence from theological erasure. FOURTH HOUR 12-1215 The Limits of AI and the Global Quantum Race: Colleague Brandon Weichert explains that current AI models are data crunchers rather than thinking entities, facing limits known as "The Bitter Lesson," while China is "nanoseconds" away from practical quantum computing aimed at decrypting military communications, with Switzerland and Singapore also pursuing sovereign quantum capabilities to ensure digital independence. 1215-1230 Lebanon's Demographic Decline and Political Stagnation: Colleague Hussain Abdul-Hussain reports that Pope Leo's visit highlighted Lebanon's diminishing Christian population, now estimated at perhaps one-quarter, with the government remaining weak and reluctant to disarm Hezbollah, fearing foreign deals that sacrifice national interests; while civil war is unlikely, the country remains dominated by an Iranian-backed militia. 1230-1245 Nuclear Ambitions in South Korea: Colleague Henry Sokolski reports that South Korea is requesting nuclear-powered submarines and enrichment rights, raising concerns about potential nuclear proliferation, with some arguing this could lead to a confederation with the North or US withdrawal, while others prefer Seoul invest in American nuclear facilities to strengthen the alliance. 1245-100 AM audi Arabia Seeks Nuclear Capabilities: Colleague Henry Sokolski explains that Saudi Arabia wants a nuclear power plant but resists signing US protocols allowing inspections; while Washington may view this as a hedge against Iran, a Saudi nuclear capability would threaten Israel's qualitative military edge, and the US has not yet granted advanced consent for enrichment.

If a turkey wore jeans, would it wear them like this or like this? Jodi and Nora start out with the worst (best) non-TV videos of the week, including Kate Beckinsale telling Jimmy Kimmel that her daughter's boyfriend has laid eggs (13:57), Dua Lipa's commercial for the 2026 Winter Olympics (20:30), a haunted “What's Behind Me?” segment from Fallon (26:17), Martha Stewart's denim turkey (30:22), and Kim Kardashian's low brain activity (35:30). Then they dive into some D-list (F-list, even) celebrity news: The Wall Street Journal's feature on Club Chalamet (40:00), Whitney Leavitt getting cast as Roxie Hart (52:18), and Olivia Nuzzi updates (58:20). Finally, they blush about the gay hockey show on HBO, ‘Heated Rivalry' (1:19:00), before each sharing their personal obsession for the week (1:30:30).
