Being part of large groups can be positive — offering social connections, shared experiences, and support — but it also comes with potential risks. Here are some key points to be aware of and strategies to stay safe:Groupthink:People in groups may adopt the majority's opinion without critical thinking. This can lead to poor decision-making or ignoring individual instincts.Tip: Trust your gut and speak up if something feels wrong.Peer Pressure:Larger groups can create pressure to conform, sometimes pushing individuals into risky behavior.Tip: Set personal boundaries and don't be afraid to step back.Loss of Individual Identity:In big groups, people may feel anonymous, leading to impulsive or irresponsible actions.Tip: Stay aware of your values and avoid situations that compromise them.Emotional Contagion:Emotions (especially anxiety, excitement, or aggression) can spread rapidly in crowds.Tip: Practice mindfulness — take a moment to pause and assess your feelings.Crowd Crush:In densely packed spaces (like concerts, football matches, or protests), people can get trapped or crushed.Tip: Identify exit points early, stay on the edges of dense crowds, and avoid pushing if movement becomes restricted.Pickpocketing & Theft:Crowded areas are prime targets for opportunistic crime.Tip: Keep valuables secure, use zippered pockets, and avoid displaying expensive items.Scams & Manipulation:Large groups can create confusion, making it easier for scammers to operate.Tip: Be cautious of strangers asking for money or offering deals that seem too good to be true.Exclusion & Cliques:In social groups, smaller cliques can form, sometimes leading to feelings of isolation.Tip: Engage with different people rather than sticking to one small circle.Exploitation & Control:Certain groups, especially in social movements or fandoms, can manipulate emotions or exploit members.Tip: Question motives if you feel pressured to contribute money, time, or loyalty beyond what's reasonable.✅ Identify exit routes or safe spaces upon arrival.✅ Stick with trusted friends if you're in an unfamiliar crowd.✅ Trust your instincts — if a situation feels unsafe, leave.✅ Stay calm during emergencies; panicking can worsen crowd dynamics.✅ Maintain personal boundaries — it's okay to say no.Psychological RisksPhysical RisksEmotional & Social RisksSafety Tips for Navigating Big Groups

Don't wear a weeding ring, don't take out your phone, cover up any expensive labels. There are countless tips out there to avoid looking like a target, so is getting pickpocketed a real fear? Likewise, what are some scams you might run into while traveling in Italy? And is it safe to walk around at night? In this episode, we talk about crime, safety, and everything around it. If you're planning on going to Rome in 2025, we highly recommend booking your hotels (and potentially even your flights) as soon as possible. If you'd like to help out Only A Bag, you can use our affiliate links marked with an asterisk. For hotels, we tend to use Booking* since we're already a part of their member program, but Expedia* also has a robust member program with similar prices on hotel rooms. For an aggregate that seems to offer slightly better deals across the board, we recommend checking out Agoda*. And if you've always loved the idea of staying in Italy for an extended period and becoming part of the culture, we can't recommend housesitting enough. While it does often entail taking care of someone's pet, it can also be a gateway to seeing Italy in a totally new way. We use Trusted Housesitters* which has a fairly steep upfront cost (a few hundred dollars) but that's covered with a few nights of a house sit which should never cost you money. It's free to make an account and look through ads, but you have to pay to send a message. Lastly, if you're already looking to book flights, we like to use the airline's website, however, some aggregates do offer better deals, so we always recommend checking Expedia* or Booking* before purchasing. Thank you so much for listening! We would absolutely appreciate it if you could follow us and rate us wherever you listen; it helps the podcast grow and it makes us feel like we're making a difference! For this month's EUROPEAN VACATION we got a lot of French features. They love their movies and we love movies so it all works out. Today we break the seal on Robert Bresson with his 1959 classic “PICKPOCKET” starring Martin LaSalle and Marika Green. The strange Michel is very driven into relieving people's wallet weight and is so intent on it that it seems to overtake his life and his relationships. He even takes from his dying mother. The police chief suspects him but has no proof. His friend likes the girl in his building but, somehow, this innocent girl's heart belongs to the man who does things she finds immoral. Also in this movie? Pickpocketing. Seems obvious given the title but this movie is very informative. The pickpocket advisor quit after working on this movie because he said he gave away all his secrets. I don't think the meatheads on lower Broadway here in Nashville have seen Robert Bresson's “PICKPOCKET” so let's get down there and see what we can squirrel up with the education this movie provides. If I get locked up? No big deal. That's how you get the girls. They like a strange pickpocket man with a vacant stare. ADHD hyper focus scores again. Pickpocketing is a crime, even if your motives are pure. In a fortunate appeal to variety, the Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button has selected the pickpocketing adventure game developed by Mighty Yell for this episode. Set back in the 1990s, the protagonist works at her mother's video rental store until she learns about her mom's hefty debt to loan sharks. Teaming up with a con artist, the teen must leave the comfort of her home and head out on a quest to save the family business by pickpocketing various strangers. It's a novel premise to be sure, but the question remains if it's a fun experience that is worth your precious time. Tom and Chris have spent an hour with the title and are ready to give you their thoughts on the matter. Will they feel their time was well spent, or have they been misled by their unreliable game selector? What do you think? Let us know! In this episode I leave slightly later than usual due to having to drop off some forms at an office. I traveled to five casinos and play Blackjack at three of them. I also get four sessions of slots in. Overall the results were good. Brought to you by Momentous high-quality supplements, Sundays for Dogs ultra-high-quality dog food, and AG1 all-in-one nutritional supplement.Apollo Robbins (@ApolloRobbins) is often referred to as “The Gentleman Thief.” He first made national news when he pick-pocketed the Secret Service while entertaining a former U.S. President. Forbes has called Robbins “an artful manipulator of awareness,” and Wired has written that “he could steal the wallet of a man who knew he was going to have his pocket picked.” Robbins' entertainment credentials include the Warner Bros. film Focus, with Will Smith and Margot Robbie, along with appearances in Brooklyn 99, and the TNT series Leverage. He was a producer and co-host for National Geographic's Brain Games, which was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Informational Series. Robbins applies his expertise in magic and misdirection beyond entertainment, pulling back the curtain to show how the principles behind these illusions can enhance strategic thinking and decision-making. His contributions to attention and perception research have been published in Scientific American Mind and Nature Reviews Neuroscience. He has delivered lectures at Harvard Kennedy School, MIT Sloan School of Management, and the Society of Neuroscience. He has been profiled by The New Yorker and featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, National Geographic, and The Wall Street Journal. Robbins' TED Talk, “The Art of Misdirection,” is ranked in the 20 most-watched TED Talks of all time and has been hailed by the TED editors as a revelation in the flaws of human perception. Please enjoy!*This episode is brought to you by AG1! I get asked all the time, “If you could use only one supplement, what would it be?” My answer is usually AG1, my all-in-one nutritional insurance. I recommended it in The 4-Hour Body in 2010 and did not get paid to do so. I do my best with nutrient-dense meals, of course, but AG1 further covers my bases with vitamins, minerals, and whole-food-sourced micronutrients that support gut health and the immune system. Right now, you'll get a 1-year supply of Vitamin D free with your first subscription purchase—a vital nutrient for a strong immune system and strong bones. Visit DrinkAG1.com/Tim to claim this special offer today and receive your 1-year supply of Vitamin D (and 5 free AG1 travel packs) with your first subscription purchase! That's up to a one-year supply of Vitamin D as added value when you try their delicious and comprehensive daily, foundational nutrition supplement that supports whole-body health.*This episode is also brought to you by Momentous high-quality supplements! Momentous offers high-quality supplements and products across a broad spectrum of categories, and I've been testing their products for months now. I've been using their magnesium threonate, apigenin, and L-theanine daily, all of which have helped me improve the onset, quality, and duration of my sleep. I've also been using Momentous creatine, and while it certainly helps physical performance, including poundage or wattage in sports, I use it primarily for mental performance (short-term memory, etc.).Their products are third-party tested (Informed-Sport and/or NSF certified), so you can trust that what is on the label is in the bottle and nothing else. If you want to try Momentous for yourself, you can use code Tim for 20% off your one-time purchase at LiveMomentous.com/Tim. And not to worry, my non-US friends, Momentous ships internationally and has you covered. *This episode is also brought to you by Sundays for Dogs, ultra-high-quality dog food without the prep or mess! I want to give my pooch, Molly, the best of everything. This is especially true when it comes to the ingredient quality of her food. But most healthy dog foods are an expensive, frozen mess. They're a hassle to thaw and serve, and the prep work eats up time I'd rather spend hiking with Molly. Sundays for Dogs solves my problem with air-dried, high-quality dog food I can store and pour right from my pantry. The magic behind Sundays for Dogs is in their proprietary air-drying method. To lock in nutrients, they gently dry the meat, low and slow. Unlike other dry brands, which are filled with hyper-processed grains and synthetic vitamins, Sundays for Dogs uses only all-natural poultry and USDA-grade beef. And meat makes up 90% of their recipes. The other 10% are fruits and veggies, ingredients you'd find at the farmer's market, not at the pharmacy.Get 35% off your first order of Sundays for Dogs by going to SundaysForDogs.com/TIM or by using code TIM at checkout. Cub Kuker Supernatural Podcast EP243 Character design traits are extremely important when it comes to successfully playing and winning any game, especially the matrix, real life, or what we are calling "reality game" for the series. Today I will literally teach you a secret life hack that will help you not only level up in life, but also begin to create yourself as a spiritual avatar. This process may sound a bit weird, or possibly intriguing to some individuals, but I personally think it is summed up in one of my favorite verses from the ‘Gospel of Thomas', starting in Logion 2: - Jesus said, "Let him who seeks continue seeking until he finds. When he finds, he will become troubled. When he becomes troubled, he will be astonished, and he will rule over the All." Here is a fantastic starting point listed out with features that you can choose from for your own “REALITY GAME” character archatype: 1. Appearance: - Gender: Male, Female, Non-binary - Race: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Orc, Wizard, etc. - Body Build: Slim, Athletic, Muscular, Heavyset - Hair Color: Black, Brown, Blonde, Red, White, etc. - Eye Color: Blue, Green, Brown, Hazel, etc. - Facial Features: Scars, Tattoos, Piercings, Beard, etc. 2. Abilities/Powers: - Magic: Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Lightning, Healing, Spiritmancy, etc. - Elemental Affinity: Choose an elemental alignment (e.g., Fire, Water, Earth, Air) for extra proficiency. - Tool Mastery: Sword of truth, Armor of righteousness, etc. - Stealth: Sneakiness, Lock-picking, Invisibility, etc. - Telekinesis: Ability to move objects with the mind. - Shapeshifting: Ability to transform into animals or other creatures. - Mind Games: Ability to influence or control the ideas of others. - Summoning: Ability to summon creatures or entities to aid you in battle. 3. Skills/Proficiencies: - Spiritual Combat Skills: Melee, Ranged, Unarmed, Tactical, etc. - Stealth Skills: Lock-picking, Pickpocketing, Sneak, etc. - Crafting Skills: Blacksmithing, Alchemy, Enchanting, Cooking, etc. - Diplomacy Skills: Persuasion, Intimidation, Negotiation, Leadership, etc. - Survival Skills: Hunting, Foraging, Tracking, Wilderness survival, etc. - Magic Skills: Spell-casting, Potion-making, Rituals, etc. - Technology Skills: Hacking, Engineering, Robotics, AI, etc. 4. Experience Level: - Novice: Beginner with limited experience. - Intermediate: Moderate experience and skill. - Advanced: Highly skilled and experienced. - Master: Expert level, legendary status. 5. Personality Traits: - Heroic: Brave, selfless, and always looking out for others. - Cunning: Clever, resourceful, and strategic. - Ruthless: Willing to do whatever it takes to achieve goals. - Charismatic: Charming, persuasive, and influential. - Wise: Knowledgeable, insightful, and wise beyond their years. - Reckless: Impulsive, thrill-seeker, and prone to taking risks. - Loyal: Devoted, trustworthy, and dependable. - Mysterious: Enigmatic, secretive, and hard to read. Remember, this is just a starting point, and you can mix and match or create your own traits to suit your “REALITY GAME” character's design and play-style. * please note always do your own research. This is purely my opinion, and the interpretation I have crafted from my studies based on original texts and mythologies as well as my personal experiences. ✝️ Faith

Pickpocketing is a form of larceny that involves the stealing of money or other valuables from the person or a victim's pocket without them noticing the theft at the time. It may involve considerable dexterity and a knack for misdirection. A thief who works in this manner is known as a pickpocket. As an occupation. Pickpockets and other thieves, especially those working in teams, sometimes apply distraction, such as asking a question or bumping into the victim. These distractions sometimes require sleight of hand, speed, misdirection and other types of skills. Pickpockets may be found in any crowded place around the world. However, Barcelona and Rome were recently singled out as being particularly dangerous pickpocket havens. Thieves have been known to operate in high traffic areas such as mass transit stations, even boarding subway trains so they can use the distractions of crowds and sudden stop-and-go movements from the train to steal from others. As soon as the thieves have what they want, they simply get off at the next stop leaving the victim unable to figure out who robbed them and when. As entertainment. Pickpocketing skills are employed by some magicians as a form of entertainment, either by taking an item from a spectator or by returning it without them knowing they had lost it. Borra, arguably the most famous stage pickpocket of all time, became the highest-paid European performer in circuses during the 1950s. For 60 years he was billed as "the King of Pickpockets" and encouraged his son, Charly, to follow in his cunning trade, his offspring being billed as "the Prince of Pickpockets". Henri Kassagi, a French-Tunisian illusionist, acted as technical advisor on Robert Bresson's 1959 film Pickpocket and appeared as instructor and accomplice to the main character. British entertainer James Freedman created the pickpocket sequences for the 2005 film Oliver Twist directed by Roman Polanski. American illusionist David Avadon featured pickpocketing as his trademark act for more than 30 years and promoted himself as "a daring pickpocket with dashing finesse" and "the country's premier exhibition pickpocket, one of the few masters in the world of this underground art." According to Thomas Blacke, an American illusionist who holds several world records, it has become more difficult nowadays to pickpocket both in the streets and on the stage because the general population wears less, or lighter, clothing. In 2015 an artist hired a pickpocket to distribute sculptures at Frieze Art Fair in New York. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/law-school/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/law-school/support

Our guest today, Dan Chan, is an internationally renowned, award-winning magician & mind-reader. In 2016 Buzzfeed profiled Dan with an article titled “Meet Silicon Valley's Favorite Magician.” Since then, Dan has performed for many of the world's largest corporations worldwide. In November of 2020, he was featured in Business Insider as the Billionaires magician. His client list reads like a who's who of Silicon valley including Google, Apple. Facebook, intel, and oracle. But magic wasn’t always at the forefront of Dan’s career. Before he was a full-time magician, he was a pre-IPO employee at PayPal where he crossed paths with the likes of Elon Musk and many of the soon to be founders of Silicon Valleys most promising start ups. He had only vested 13 months of his stock options when he decided to give up the remaining 3/4 to pursue performing magic full time. Since then he has performed over 5000 plus shows for many of the most recognizable companies in the world. Dan has an insatiable drive to become what he calls “legendary” which has spurred him into many money making and experiential adventures including working in Michelin rated restaurants, and, of all things, day trading. In the first part of the interview we discuss his career trajectory, what he has learned from performing magic for high flying tech companies, and his pivot to creating in a virtual world. The conversation continues in the after show where we unexpectedly dive into a controversial conversation of what it means to have “enough” and when he will be content with his career goals. Don’t forget to listen to the very end.

Payola, in the music industry, is the illegal practice of payment to commercial radio in which the song is presented as being part of the normal day's broadcast, without announcing that there has been consideration paid in cash or in kind for its airplay adjacent to the recording's broadcast. Under US law, a radio station can play a specific song in exchange for money, but this must be disclosed on the air as being sponsored airtime. The term has come to refer to any undisclosed payment made to cast a product in a favorable light (such as obtaining positive reviews). Some radio stations report spins of the newest and most popular songs to industry publications. The number of times the songs are played can influence the perceived popularity of a song. The term payola is a combination of "pay" and "ola", a common suffix of product names in the early 20th century, such as Pianola, Victrola, Amberola, Crayola, Rock-Ola, Shinola, or brands such as the radio equipment manufacturer Motorola. Payola has come to mean the payment of a bribe in commerce and in law to say or do a certain thing against the rules of law, but more specifically a commercial bribe. The FCC defines "payola" as a violation of the sponsorship identification rule. Well I've finally cut episode 43! Everything is coming to an end so shit is crazy hectic lately. But the move and transition is only 3 weeks away, and then hopefully we can get these shows going again. We started the show with that ALS challenge. Which by now I think is pretty obsolete. But man....it was HUGE when we did it. Shows how long ago we did this show. So it's been a crazy news time lately. We talk about all of the rioting going on. Ahhhhh....that takes me back to the LA days! Jess does her news stories, which include National Topless Day. Why isn't every day topless day? OBAMA!!!! We talk about the Napa earthquake, which is a complete tragedy. I mean, I don't really care about the damage to buildings....but all that awesome wine destroyed forever....terrible! Jess talks about pickpocketing bees and tape worms. We talk about the Mexican CEO who changed his company to a 4 day work week, and says it's the best thing ever! Jess has a huge storm roll through, and you can hear crazy thunder throughout the show. Sounds like Armageddon going off. We touch on the beheadings that are unfortunate going on in the news, and how these barbarians need to be dealt with. And we finish the show discussing a friend Jess and I met, who happens to be a gay pastor. We discuss if we could go to a church where the pastor is gay. This will probably be the last show for a bit. Once the dust settles with everything, we'll be back. But probably will be a little different of a show. As always, thanks to those of you who have listened despite the hiccups we're currently having.
