Author Nancy Johnson joins us to discuss People of Means, our February Book Club selection for Black History Month, a powerful, moving dual-timeline novel.Nancy Johnson joins Book Gang to discuss her richly layered second novel, which explores race, class, ambition, and resistance in 1960s Nashville and 1992 Chicago, offering readers a perfectly baked reading experience for Black History Month. In this deeply thoughtful conversation, Nancy reflects on writing a novel that spans decades—from the Jim Crow South and the Fisk University protest movement to the corporate corridors of the early 1990s and the aftermath of the Rodney King verdict. We talk about generational inheritance, the pressures of Black excellence, and the quiet, everyday decisions that shape history just as much as headline-making acts of protest.Nancy also shares what it was like to speak at Fisk University, a moment that mirrors the heart of People of Means, and how beginning her fiction career later in life shaped both her confidence and her creative freedom. From navigating second-novel pressure to crafting two distinct voices for Freda and Tulip, this conversation offers insight into both the craft of writing and the moral questions at the center of the book.In this enlightening conversation, we explore:
Sometimes people have in their minds that it is other people's responsibility to help people grow in their Christian faith, when in reality it is every Christian's job to help others grow in Christlikeness.
The 4-year-old son of More Than Ready, campaigned by Victory Racing Partners, broke his maiden on second asking in an $84,000 Gulfstream Park MSW at 3. After his win in a $127,000 allowance at Ellis Park, he would only compete at the stakes level. His first black type start was in graded stakes company winning the G3 Manila S. at Belmont Park, defeating a deep field consisting entirely of graded stakes winners and stakes winners. He followed up that victory with a third in the G2 National Museum Racing Hall of Fame S., behind eventual G1 winner Carl Spackler (IRE). More Than Looks followed that race up with a win in the $200,000 Jefferson Cup S. at Churchill Downs by 2 3/4 lengths. He earned the first of his four triple-digit Beyer -101- in this win.Returning to the races at four, More Than Looks ran exclusively in G1 company. His first two starts of 2024 resulted in game second place finishes in the G1 Fourstardave H. at Saratoga and G1 Turf Mile S. at Keeneland, earning a 100 Beyer for his effort in the Turf Mile. Those two races set him up perfectly for an impressive run in the G1 Breeders' Cup Mile, where he defeated a competitive international field consisting of 8 G1 winners. With the Breeders' Cup victory he earned his highest career Beyer speed figure of 105 and brought his earnings to a total of $1,870,715.“He's an eye-catching horse that showed elite ability from day one,” said trainer Cherie DeVaux of More Than Looks. “His explosive turn of foot and competitive nature led to consistency at the highest level, and ultimately resulted in him becoming a Breeders' Cup Champion.”Bred by Hinkle Farms, More Than Looks hails from the female family of multiple G1 winner Critical Eye. His black type winning dam, Ladies' Privilege - a $575,000 Keeneland November purchase, by Harlan's Holiday, is a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner Takeover Target.More Than Looks' sire More Than Ready is a leading sire of Breeders' Cup winners and wins, with 7 individual winners accumulating 8 wins. An international success, More Than Ready has sired nearly a 120 black type winners, almost 50 graded stakes winners and 13 G1 winners.
Tara breaks down a deeply personal story about a traffic stop that spiraled into thousands of dollars, traffic school, and a hard lesson about arguing with police — even when you're right.
Tara connects the dots between everyday Americans being crushed by the system and a ruling class that plays by a completely different set of rules. What starts with a personal story about a minor traffic stop spiraling into thousands of dollars, traffic school, and near license suspension becomes a much bigger warning about two-tiered justice in America. From the Alex Pretty incident, coordinated activist networks, and selective prosecution — to explosive revelations out of Fulton County, Georgia, missing ballot images, and admitted election law violations — Tara lays out why chaos, distraction, and violence are being rewarded while accountability disappears. This episode exposes how fraud is buried, narratives are weaponized, and why the same rules never seem to apply to the same people.

Data is shaping how we understand health, politics, work, and everyday life, but without context, it can mislead more than it informs. In this episode,, Kara Duffy speaks with Andrea Jones-Rooy, data scientist, former professor, comedian, and host of Behind the Data Podcast, about how to think critically about statistics, misinformation, and measurement in today's information-saturated world. Andrea explains why data doesn't speak for itself, how charts and trends can be manipulated without context, and why critical thinking and data literacy are essential skills for modern leaders. Two stories have come out in the press that expose Nick Reiner's motive for the murder of his parents, famed director Rob Reiner and photographer Michelle Singer Reiner. An ex-roommate of Reiner's from a ritzy rehab describes a 15 year-old Reiner as being filled with “seething anger”, entitlement and hatred for his parents. The former roommate also goes on to describe an incident where Reiner tried to physically attack him. In another article, 14 people who knew Reiner describe a last Thanksgiving dinner at the Reiner's. The article paints a portrait of a man who felt entitled to the lifestyle his parents earned. Interestingly, no one who knew Reiner described a man who couldn't discern right from wrong. In this NSW x Poducer episode, we sit down with Medicine Place for a super honest, wide-ranging talk on where he comes from, what keeps him grounded, and why he sees this project as bigger than just playing shows. We get into his roots in basketball (and how that “trust the process” mindset carries straight into music), growing up fast, and being a “product of good friends” the mentors and homies who shaped how he moves today. From there, we dive into the intention behind his debut album Wake Up: a dream-like, story-driven project that stretches beyond dubstep into rap and other lanes, all centered on growth, awareness, and learning how to navigate the gray areas as life speeds up. We also listen to unreleased music, including “Sleepwalking” (ft. IMC) and “The Cycle” (with Aquatic Cat Dolphin), and talk about the real challenge of blending hip-hop into an EDM set without killing the flow. And if you've ever felt like certain artists create a “different world” in the room,we talk about that too: community, responsibility, and creating a space where people feel safe to fully let go for an hour. Should the UK follow Australia in bringing in a social media ban for under 16s? The government has announced a consultation on the issue and peers debate the question as the former Conservative schools minister Lord Nash has tabled an amendment to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill. It would require social media platforms to stop children under 16 from using their platforms within a year of the Bill passing. Nuala McGovern discusses this with Hannah Ortel from the Brianna Ghey Legacy Project, and Dr Fiona Scott, Senior Lecturer in digital literacies at the University of Sheffield. How safe are the beauty treatments many women routinely use? MPs on the Science, Technology and Innovation Committee are investigating whether UK regulation is keeping pace with the scientific evidence behind products used by millions of women, from botox to hair relaxers, the latter predominantly used by Black women. Nuala is joined by the chair of the committee, Labour MP Dame Chi Onwurah, to discuss what the inquiry hopes to uncover.Eat the Rich (but maybe not me mates, x) is the acclaimed comedy show from Jade Franks. They say many have quit, feeling unheard and undervalued. This week is a special episode. Only David Senra could get me to be on the other side of the mic. Because I don't plan on being interviewed often, I wanted to share this conversation, which I so enjoyed, with our audience. It went in a very different direction than I expected. We barely talk about investing or interviewing. Instead, we talk about finding an organizing principle for life, undiscovered talent, and the idea that “the reward for good work is more work.” We also discuss the principles that guide how I think about building Invest Like the Best, Colossus, and Positive Sum. This conversation was originally recorded and released on David Senra, and I wanted to share on the Invest Like The Best feed as well. Please go follow what he's doing, there's no one like David. A conversation with Dr. Paul OffitWe didn't just eradicate measles through vaccines, we eradicated all memory of it - that's why vaccine hesitancy is on the rise.Today's guest Dr. Paul Offit is angry. He's an undisputed authority in the vaccination field, professor of vaccinology at the University of Pennsylvania, co-inventor of life-saving vaccine RotaTeq, author… in short, Offit has been in the room for the creation of policies that affected hundreds of millions of people. That's why he stands in disbelief as health secretary RFK Jr. continues to share disinformation, shred the CDC of its ability to monitor the population, and cause real-world health crises in our communities. In defiance, he's sharing his message loud and clear, and this episode shines as our most comprehensive guide yet on the vaccination crisis. It's time to make a collective effort, to safeguard our children's health.—We spoke about RFK Jr.'s long-standing anti-vaccine stance, historical perspectives on vaccination's successes and controversies, the evolution and impacts of vaccines on diseases like polio, measles, and hepatitis B, and the erosion of public trust in vaccines.Follow me on Instagram and Facebook @ericfethkemd and checkout my website at www.EricFethkeMD.com. Pressure is often treated like something to escape—but in leadership, pressure is rarely a sign that something is wrong. More often, it's a sign that something matters. In this episode, we're reframing pressure through the lens of mindset, leadership, and research-backed psychology. You'll hear why pressure isn't the enemy, how your interpretation of stress directly affects performance and health, and why mindset isn't motivational fluff—it's the filter through which leaders experience responsibility, decision-making, and growth.Drawing from leadership experience, neuroscience, and well-known studies on stress and mindset, this conversation breaks down:Why pressure shows up when you're trusted with responsibilityHow mindset shapes your nervous system's response to stressThe difference between pressure that refines and pressure that burns people outPractical mindset shifts leaders can use to stay grounded under demandIn a world where being perfect seems to be the goal- - it's important that we know who's we are & who we are. We aren't called to be perfect - we are called to be better today than yesterday! - that's it. It doesn't have to be quantum leaps, in fact I believe that in the day to day -our little steps in the right directions! I am on a mission to help women become more of who they were created to be and less of who they were told to be. And, that takes intention, that takes action : My goal is to drop some wisdom, bring you resources and that takes community. The real unlock is the Inner Work, and that's what we do here! J.I. Packer once said that, "Adoption is the highest privilege of the gospel. The traitor is forgiven, brought in for supper, and given the family name. To be right with God the Judge is a great thing, but to be loved and cared for by God the Father is greater."One of the most beautiful truths of Scripture is that Christians are those who have been adopted by God. They have been "born of God" (John 1:13, 1 John 3:9), given the "Spirit of Adoption" (Romans 8:15), they are called "sons of God" (Matt. 5:9). Indeed, even from eternity past, God, "predestined (them) for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ" (Ephesians 1:5). This means that Christians no longer relate to God merely as their Creator, or Judge, or Lord, but as their heavenly Father. To learn more about this beautiful doctrine, please tune into this short episode. This episode was originally given as a lecture by Joshua Molden at a River City Men's Discipleship Event.
Lena Milligan's first marathon came after years of rebuilding her relationship with movement. After a childhood spent as a competitive swimmer, Lena moved through seasons of overexercising, underfueling, injury, and anorexia recovery that forced her to step away from running entirely. In this episode, Lena shares how she slowly found her way back through walking, 5Ks, trail races, half marathons, and eventually the marathon start line. We talk about learning how to fuel without fear, distance dysmorphia, bad long runs, trusting your body again, and why being tired from something you love can feel like a privilege instead of a punishment.Follow along with the show: Personal IG/TikTok: @tay.says / @taysays Podcast IG/TikTok: @myfirstmarathonpod YouTube: @MyFirstMarathonPodcast Website & extras: myfirstmarathon.co & myfirstmarathon.co/resources

In Part 2 of our interview with Pastor Hassan Abduraheem Taour, he shares how his heart remained upbeat, even as the judge pronounced him guilty and sentenced him to 12 years in prison. He'll talk about how reading the Bible is different inside prison than when you're free. Hassan says he experienced persecution as a blessing from God—a blessing that brought him tears of joy. "It is really a privilege to be persecuted," he says. Pastor Hassan recounted how fellow members of the Body of Christ in Sudan encouraged him in prison with faith that the Lord would release him. His prayer life also grew in prison, as he became a prayer warrior, quoting Bible verses as he prayed with tears. Your faith will be encouraged and you'll be challenged to pray for Sudan, Christians imprisoned for Christ, and their families as you hear Pastor Hassan's amazing testimony this week on VOM Radio. Hear Part 1 of our conversation here. Pastor Hassan was imprisoned alongside VOM's Africa regional director, Petr Jasek. You can hear Petr's side of the story here. Pastor Hassan's story was also featured in the I Am N virtual event, which you can watch online. The VOM App for your smartphone or tablet will help you pray daily in 2026 for persecuted Christians in nations like North Korea, Nigeria and Bangladesh, as well as provide free access to e-books, audiobooks, video content and feature films. “There's nothing dead about the Indian classics. It's not a revival of anything. It's not a museum piece. I think our classical tradition is alive through the stories our parents and grandparents told us…[and through popular culture]…..but with few exceptions, we don't know about the classics from our neighboring state, right? I always hope that the girl in Chandigarh can read a Mangal Kavya from Bengal, a boy in Patna can read a Telugu classic. Someone sitting in your old hometown, Pune can read Bulleh Shah.”
No breath we take is an indication of entitlement, but a privilege from the Almighty... And knowing Yahweh isn't due to a hard search for truth, rather, an indication that we're greatly esteemed from the Most High God... ~CoryCabri
What happens when the police don't come—and political mobs decide they are the authority? In this intense monologue and analysis, the host lays out a warning about one-party rule, depolicing, and a future where activists feel empowered to stop drivers, search vehicles, and demand proof of political loyalty. Drawing parallels from St. Louis to Minneapolis, this episode argues that what's unfolding isn't chaos—it's a model being normalized. ⚠️

This episode is brought to you by Timeline, Strong Coffee Company and Fatty15. In this episode of Ever Forward Radio, performance coach Natalie Hummel reframes what it truly means to be a high performer—arguing that excellence isn't built through discipline, talent, or mindset alone, but through nervous system mastery. Natalie explains how fear, pressure, and self-sabotage are not problems to eliminate but sensations to build capacity for, and why separating sensation from story is the key to performing with ease under stress. Together, we will explore identity, upper limits, resilience, flow states, and what high performance looks like in everyday life. This conversation offers a grounded, practical, and deeply human approach to performance—one rooted in presence, self-mastery, and the courage to feel what most people avoid. You have roughly 4,000 weeks. Somehow, nobody mentioned this at school. This episode takes a cheerful scalpel to modern time-panic—the kind that convinces smart adults that the next app, habit, or color-coded calendar will finally subdue existence. (It won't.) Time, inconveniently, keeps doing what it has always done: passing. The good news is that this makes it remarkably reliable, like a train that never apologizes. You'll explore why becoming “more efficient” can make you feel more chased, how birthdays can reveal your true time-philosophy, and why sitting quietly for ten minutes can be the most practical thing you do all week. The aim isn't to win against time. It's to stop declaring war on the only place life can happen. Treat calm as a skill, not a personality trait. Build plans that assume “the deck” never clears. Use meditation as a weekly perspective tune-up. Press play, then reclaim one hour you were about to surrender. Welcome back to another episode of Man vs Marriage. In Episode 8 of the Where Do I Start? series, we tackle a mindset most people try to escape:Pressure.Pressure isn't punishment.Pressure isn't failure.Pressure is proof you've been trusted with something that matters. In this episode, we break down why pressure shows up in marriage, parenting, leadership, and life—and why avoiding it weakens you instead of protecting you.If you feel overwhelmed… stretched… tested…This episode reframes pressure not as a problem—but as a privilege earned by responsibility.

December 23, 2025: AI is moving from experiment to expectation at record speed, but employees say leadership hasn't built the systems needed to support it. Remote work is quietly becoming a privilege instead of a right. And a growing number of professionals are reclaiming Sundays as deep-work days because weekdays have become fragmented and unproductive. In this episode, we examine four stories that reveal a powerful shift underway: the future of work is no longer about where or when people work — it's about who has leverage, who controls their time, and which organizations can redesign work fast enough to keep up. If you want to understand what's really changing beneath the headlines, this episode connects the dots.
