It's spring cleaning time! Time to clear out old, stagnant situationships that aren't growing and are creating barriers to the comfort zone you're building for a new person. How do we create a comfort zone for someone new? By taking out the trash, preparing space for their baggage, and establishing a calm, peaceful environment that can heal both them and you from past chaos. Horse: (00:11:31) This person trusts you. Good news! Yet, they also call you a gossip… and a good mother. You can create any life you want. It's not selfish to desire a better life and more quality relationships. How often do we find ourselves waiting for motivation to magically appear, especially in our closest relationships?  I've been there too, more times than I'd like to admit. But here's the hard truth I've learned: motivation isn't a reliable spark; it's something we create. In this deeply personal episode, I'm getting raw and honest about the reality of motivation in marriage. I'm sharing behind-the-scenes moments from my own journey with Jessica, the times I let motivation slip, and the small, intentional actions that helped me rebuild connection and intimacy. It's not about grand gestures; it's about showing up even when you don't "feel" like it. Become the best husband and leader you can: www.thedadedge.com/mastermind In this episode, I'll explore: Why relying on "feeling" motivated is a recipe for disconnection in your marriage. The insidious ways that distance can quietly creep into even the strongest relationships. The power of small, consistent acts of love to reignite intimacy and connection. Practical strategies to prioritize your spouse, even when life feels overwhelming. How to break the cycle of waiting for motivation and start leading with action. Here's what research supports about the power of action and intention: Studies show that couples who engage in regular, small acts of kindness report a 28% increase in relationship satisfaction. Research indicates that setting specific, shared goals increases the likelihood of improved communication and intimacy by 35%. Prioritizing quality time has been shown to reduce feelings of loneliness in relationships by 20%. If you're ready to stop waiting for motivation and start actively building a stronger, more connected marriage, this episode is for you. Let's take that first step together. www.thedadedge.com/friday204 www.themensforge.com www.thedadedge.com/25questions www.thedadedge.com/alliance

Welcome back to another highlight show! In this episode, we continue our series of relationship tips and insights from some experts I’ve interviewed over the years. You will hear from Dr. Wendy Walsh about the top 3 qualities men and women seek (qualities that are based on deep-seated wiring, that we can’t ignore or reject), advice from Jillian Turecki on the right and wrong questions to ask while dating, why we can make bad decisions during the first two years of a relationship, why we downplay negatives and red flags, and what happens when we get too stuck on rationality. Got relationship problems? They likely stem from your own issues—your own personal life problems, self-esteem issues, etc. You will also learn what 7 things destroy attraction and hear wonderful insights from Mia Moore, who highlights the adverse effects of becoming socialized to believe that relationships are mainly about hard work. Mia discusses how life experience, including both positive and negative aspects of past relationships, can frame one’s perspective and personal growth for future relationships. Another important part of relationship health? Parenting. If you have kids, don’t make the (common) worst mistake most parents make (putting kids before the priorities of nurturing a loving partnership)! Mia mentions the “cheerleader” concept of relationship dynamics: Do you want a mature, authentic, dynamic adult relationship with conflict, frank discussion, negotiation-compromise-resolution, or do you just want a cheerleader to stand by and cheer you on? According to Mia, you can have both—a cheerleader and an authentic partner, and you will also hear some great applicable tips for healthy communication—recognizing and avoiding passive-aggressive dynamics, the power of dismissive language, being aware of how you use “but” in the middle of a sentence, developing the ability to listen more and talk less, how to allow for healthy venting without going overboard, the importance of working on emotional control and sensitivity, and more! TIMESTAMPS: What are the qualities we are looking for in a partner based on our biological wiring [00:46] It is important to be authentic. [05:16] What should you talk about when first dating? [06:25] People that look good on paper, might not be a good match. [07:44] The chemical attraction is there, but sometimes we make bad decisions. [10:59] Don’t downplay red flags that you may notice. [13:15] Be comfortable around each other. You don’t have to dress up or put on an act. [14:09] There are seven things that destroy relationships. One is stress. [15:31] Master your inner voice, and you master your life. [16:17] Are relationships really such hard work? [19:58] There are helicopter parents and lawnmower parents. How does that effect your relationship? [23:32] Do opposites attract or is a better match with someone who is more aligned with your behaviors and values? [27:06] As we get older, we get set in our ways. [29:58] Say something once and have the expectation that your message will stick. [30:50] Do you say “whatever?” Using “but” in the middle of a sentence usually negates what you said before. [31:47] Resolve to listen more and talk less. No one learns anything by talking. (Confucius) [36:10] Think about what kind of partner you want? TEXT: 1 Corinthians 13:7, 13, Matthew 19:16-22 NOTES: Trust is essential, but so is hope. Today's Relationship Goals are to: Trust more and Hope more. KEYS TO BUILDING TRUST IN A RELATIONSHIP: -Be a life-giver -Be faithful to your promises, especially the small ones. -Provide and be content with what you have. -Speak truth in love -Honor one another -Choose love: “The Rich Young Ruler was willing to invest only his past into the relationship but refused to invest his future unless he remained in control. He wasn't seeking a healthy relationship—he wanted a self-serving dictatorship.” WHY DO WE LOSE HOPE? -It's taking too long. -It feels too big or too small. -It's just my idea (lack of unity or shared vision). -It seems impossible with no plan. "You have to view yourself as a marital mason. You are daily on the job adding another layer of bricks that will determine the shape of your marriage for days, weeks, and years to come." — Tripp Action Step: Talk about it: -With each other. -With God. -With good and godly counsel.
