POPULARITY
Send us a textRanked Choice Voting (RCV) is an electoral system in which voters rank candidates by preference (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) rather than voting for a single candidate. If no candidate wins a majority of first-preference votes, the candidate with the fewest first choices is eliminated, and votes for that candidate are transferred to voters' next choices. This process continues until a candidate earns more than 50% of the vote.Benefits of RCV over Popular Vote or Electoral College:Greater voter representation: RCV ensures that the winner reflects a majority preference, which may better represent the will of the voters. It helps to prevent a candidate from winning with only a small plurality in a multi-candidate race.Reduces “spoiler” effect: In traditional voting systems, third-party or less popular candidates can split votes, leading to a winner that doesn't have majority support. With RCV, voters can rank their true preference without fear of "wasting" a vote, since their secondary choices still count if their first choice is eliminated.Discourages negative campaigning: Candidates benefit from being ranked second or third by opponents' supporters. This can promote more civil and cooperative campaigning, as candidates seek broader appeal beyond their core base.Greater choice: Voters can express support for a wider range of candidates without the pressure to “strategically” choose only between the frontrunners. This allows for more diverse candidates, including independents and third-party contenders.Addresses gerrymandering: While RCV doesn't directly combat gerrymandering (the manipulation of district boundaries), it can make races in gerrymandered districts more competitive by ensuring winners have broader support, potentially mitigating its effects. In conclusion, Ranked Choice Voting can offer a more representative, inclusive, and fair system of voting compared to both the popular vote and Electoral College models. However, its adoption at a national level would require considerable legal, political, and logistical changes.Support the show

Sometimes when we are living on mission we can feel like we are missing out leading to personal dysfunctional dialogue: - Doubt (we doubt Gods word and His goodness) - Discourages (we look at problems rather than God) - Diversion (we look at wrong thing because wrong thing looks attractive) - Division (we follow things that separate us from God) - Defeat (things that make us feel like a failure) - Delay (make us put off what needs to happen out of fear)
Each time the followers of Jesus try to limit the scope of his message, he expands it even further.

If you are watching this video, you are probably one of the elite few people who understand the massive benefits that could come to this world if we were to move back to a sound money system. Some people think that looks like Bitcoin, some people think that looks like gold, other people have opinions that it looks like something else. But for the most part, most people would agree that moving to a sound money system is better than a fiat money system where the supply can expand or contract by the sole discretion of a few unelected bureaucrats. And they do so in a way that causes malinvestment, misallocation of funds, and a destruction of wealth over time. But one thing that is largely not considered is how sound money systems actively discourage investing compared to the system that we have today. And I'm going to show you why that's actually not a bad thing. It's a feature, not a bug.

Key Things Discussed The crucial mindset shift that must occur in shifting to a new model. Three components necessary to set teams up for long-term success. Data analytics, education and why OKRs depend on bringing teams along. Common organizational problems that OKRs quickly uncover and highlight. Elements to develop and instill for better (not more) management. The pitfalls of a cascading management style. Setting the stage for successful OKR implementation. Show Notes [00:02:44] A quick hello to this episode's guest, OKR expert Felipe Castro. [00:03:59] Why OKR? Customers give lots of reasons – ranging from weak (the boss read a book or everyone's doing it) to borderline vague (accountability or transparency). [00:04:36] The Tinkerbell Approach: The common misperception (or delusion!) that a little bit of fairy dust is all it takes to take a traditional enterprise to Google-level OKR success. [00:05:34] Adopting OKR is not a goal in and of itself. It's a transformational tool to help organizations be more competitive, adaptive and normative in the 21st century. [00:06:19] Successful OKR implementations require that organizations do three key things: Demonstrate commitment and consistency over time. Learn how to execute the system in practice. Accept that old models and experience will have to be unlearned. [00:07:36] Three components necessary to set teams up for success: Access to the data (liberate it from the silos!). Clarity about the core business metrics and strategy. Knowledge of data analytics and statistics. [00:09:44] Felipe shares some of the common organizational problems that OKRs quickly uncover and highlight: Lack of clarity about goals. Lack of grounding in the strategy behind projects. Managers who don't provide clear context. [00:11:04] Elements to develop and instill for better (not more) management: Leadership (based on new rather than old business models) Problem-solving skills. An ability to both offer and communicate trust. Permission to get inspired and inspire others. [00:14:32] Felipe explains why part of the beauty in OKRs is that they don't take a one-size-fits all approach. Rather, it's a flexible philosophy that can be tailored and tweaked based on a huge range of factors across industries and organizational cultures. [00:18:44] OKRs may vary, but there remain common foundational building blocks. [00:19:44] Felipe shares his take on cascading management: 100% top-down. Lacks agility. Creates silos. Discourages inter-departmental collaboration. Fails to provide clearly defined, measurable goals. [00:24:44] It's a journey! Felipe explains the (necessarily imperfect) process of establishing OKRs and bringing everyone along. [00:27:52] Stumbling Blocks: Felipe shares one OKR scenario that commonly occurs at large companies (overattachment to a business case or spreadsheet) and another that often besets smaller companies (data availability bias). [00:31:02] Better tools create better outcomes. But not without a holistic approach that includes a commitment to educating and enabling teams. [00:33:44] Don't leave talent on the table! Give teams the tools they need! [00:35:06] Elements that set the stage for successful OKR implementation: Ensure that teams understand the metrics and data fundamentals. Establish weekly one-to-ones for continuous feedback. Ongoing coaching and development. Adoption of advanced engineering technologies to improve processes. Regular customer feedback interviews. Established systems to test, experiment and collect data for nimble decision-making. [00:39:30] Felipe shares his evolving thoughts on what capabilities are critical to successful OKR implementation at traditional organizations, including the need for a bridge between old and new business models (in spite of inevitable hiccups and cultural challenges). [00:43:30] The Finer Points of Performance: Standards for evaluation are as variable as team and individual roles, responsibilities and contributions. Beware tying bonus structures and compensation to measures that are inefficient, inaccurate or illogical. [00:49:59] Why individual goals can be a huge liability and disincentive. [00:51:22] Defining calibration and how it level sets performance reviews. [00:52:44] Quick Fire Questions for Felipe: What do you appreciate most about your team? Passion and commitment. What is your greatest dream and its associated deadline? To facilitate a second edition (with new contributions/examples) of the classic John Doerr book, "Measure What Matters: The revolutionary movement behind the explosive growth of Intel, Google, Amazon and Uber." No deadline since it's up to the author! Can you describe an experience or situation that made you proud? It's a feeling that arises whenever organizations adopt, evangelize for and continue to use OKR tools in the long term – which fortunately for Felipe has been a common occurrence! What's the most important word of advice you can give people who want to try OKRs but feel wary? They are not a “to do” list. It's about the outcomes you want to achieve and creating data-driven, measurable benefits for your customers, your company and your employees. Today's Scripture: 1 CORINTHIANS 6:9-11 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Nepal is running low on foreign currency reserves needed to import medicines, oil products, cars and a range of other items, and will run out in seven months if things don't improve, a central bank official said Friday. The central bank has increased interest rates, hoping it will discourage people from buying imports and help extend the foreign reserves, said Gunakar Bhatta, spokesperson of Nepal Rastriya Bank, the central bank. “We are concerned about the sustainability of our foreign exchange reserves,” Bhatta said. But he said there already are signs that the situation is getting better with the slowing of the pandemic. More tourists have begun to arrive and increasing numbers of Nepalese are going abroad to earn foreign currency and send it back home, he said. “Compared to previous years, the foreign exchange reserve level has come down, but we can manage it because the number of migrant workers that are going abroad has increased," Bhatta said. Nepal's main sources of foreign currency are tourism, remittances from overseas workers and foreign aid. Normally, hundreds of thousands of foreign tourists visit Nepal every year. However, the number declined sharply because of restrictions imposed during the coronavirus pandemic. Tourists are trickling back, with hundreds of climbers already applying to climb the world's highest peaks and thousands more trekking on mountain trails. Nepal has few exports and imports almost everything from abroad. Motor vehicles and oil products account for one fourth of the imports, Bhatta said. The finance ministry said earlier this week that the government is working to reduce imports of gold and luxury goods, but did not provide details. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

-kerygma - the basic Gospel message -If you don't know the heart of the Gospel and the basic story, you're always going to put the emphasis in the wrong place. -Fr. Brian -The Gospel is not good advice, it is good news. And I think part of the reason people in the culture don't want to hear from us—they are sick and tired of hearing from Christians—and I think part of the reason is because when we encounter the world, we're always kind of scolding them on how they should be living a moral life. Which we're not wrong about, they should be, but who wants to hear that all the time? -Fr. Brian -"For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, deluded, slaves to various desires and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful ourselves and hating one another."(Titus 3:3) -There are three things that Satan does to every one of us to keep us in slavery: (1) Accuses. (2) Discourages. (3) Lies. -Rescued: The Unexpected and Extraordinary News of the Gospel by Fr. John Riccardo -"And even when you were dead [in] transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he brought you to life along with him, having forgiven us all our transgressions; obliterating the bond against us, with its legal claims, which was opposed to us, he also removed it from our midst, nailing it to the cross; despoiling the principalities and the powers, he made a public spectacle of them, leading them away in triumph by it." (Colossians 2:13-15) -On the cross, the moment when Jesus was so humiliated, was actually the moment when he captured our enemies. That's not good advice, it's good news. -Fr. Brian -Today, we set aside the concerns of the week that we may honor the Lord and His resurrection. Today we put aside our labors, that we may honor the Lord and remember the eternal life to which He has called us. (Prayer from the Companions of Christ) -God didn't just save you from the Evil One, that wasn't enough for Him. He didn't just capture your enemy, He captured your enemy, shamed him, and then He said, "By the way, you are my son, you are my daughter, and I love you." And you were brought home into the family of God the Father. -Fr. Brian -"This was the tree on which Christ, like a king on a chariot, destroyed the devil, the lord of death, and freed the human race from his tyranny. This was the tree upon which the Lord like a brave warrior wounded in hands, feet and side, healed the wounds of sin that the evil serpent had inflicted on our nature. A tree once caused our death, but now a tree brings life." (St. Theodore the Studite)

In today's episode I discuss how updates to the Associated Press stylebook discourage use of the word ‘riot,' and how they've expanded the definition of the word ‘protest' to include ‘violence'." I discuss how this equivocation (an often used logical fallacy) is common in propaganda. In my opinion this is a perfect example of how words are being redefined for propagandistic purposes. I also discuss, for a moment, some of the flaws in both the Left and the Right's take on Black Lives Matter, and Antifa, protests. And at the end I spend a few minutes discussing an example of the varied use of the words "claim" and "said" in news media reporting in order to suggest clear implications to readers and listeners. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zeropolitics/message
Across California, county public health departments have issued guidelines banning parades, block parties and haunted houses. “A different type of Halloween” must happen this year, state health secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly said Tuesday. Last week, Los Angeles County banned trick-or-treating, then revised its language to instead discourage the activity. This week, San Francisco County similarly discouraged going door-to-door for candy while encouraging alternatives such as virtual activities and home decorating. We'll discuss the latest news on COVID-19 safety as Halloween approaches.

One of my biggest flaws is that I tend to get my hopes up for things. My dad always says “Don’t count your chickens before they hatch,” and for some reason I’m not very good at following this advice. PROS: It gives me a super positive and upbeat attitude Tends to keep me excited for what’s next to come Motivates me to continue to make moves and work hard CONS: I get let down when things don’t go how I expected them Things TEND to not go how I expect them Discourages me from trying new things *NEW SINGLE* Do Me Wrong https://ffm.to/domewrong Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcPECB5Nja8oWDqVz8kSmFg?view_as=subscriber Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/leezythegifted/ Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/artist/4GX0VR7K1JRRBBkHGzshJA?si=2TMsJfzqQ9Sety6ZvWRGnQ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/musicmasterypodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/musicmasterypodcast/support
“The Competition” (February 13, 1987) Yes, we did do an episode last year in which we summed up Mr. Belvedere are a whole and said it never did an outright gay episode. We were wrong, and thanks to two different listers who politely exposed our ignorance, this week you are getting Drew and Glen talking about the one where Heather convinces her boyfriend he’s gay and Mr. Belvedere convinces him he’s not. It’s a weird bit of TV, but it’s also one of the very few family-focused sitcoms of this era to actually acknowledge that gay people exist. Also you can listen to the previous Mr. Belvedere outing, but also maybe don’t because this one is good enough to just replace the original? Are you available for God's use? Are you on the building crew? When we try to do something that God has for us to do - the enemy is always there with the same old strategy. He 1) Discourages 2) Distracts and 3) Deceives us to take us out. The story of Nehemiah and the tribes rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem show us how to keep building His church, and at the same time - fight against the strategies that cause us to quit. It takes all the people to build His Church, and God says each of us important. He sees you and knows your name. Isaiah 40:8, Exodus 15:22 - 25, Bitterness is a root, it grows slowly and shows up where it wasn't planted. A controlled life is a successful life, A uncontrolled life is a unsuccessful life. Happiness does good like a medicine. How do you keep from being bitter? Its not about understanding, its about obedience. Moses put a tree in the water at Mariah to take away the bitterness. Why a tree? Because God was thinking of another tree that was going to take away the bitterness in the world to those would believe in Him.

Ever wonder what SEC regulations apply to apartment building syndications? There is a lot to this subject and while it's not crucial that you know everything, nor should you try, it is important that you have a basic understand of what's involved and what to look out for. This week I'm joined by SEC Attorney Steven Rinaldi who has been handling private offerings of securities for over 26 years. Steven is extremely knowledgeable and competent, and this episode is packed full of useful info! Key Takeaways: [2:25] Definition and example of a syndication [5:00] The types of entities Apartment Building Investors should use for Syndication [8:08] How to structure a deal [10:31] Legal documents required for syndication: Operating Agreement Prospectus/Private Placement Memorandum (PPM) Subscription Agreement Form D. File this in the states where the investors are located (not the property) [13:12] Advantages of Delaware LLC's Hard to break up Discourages disgruntled investors from filing lawsuits Delaware judges see these cases all of the time and are very familiar with business law Get out of trouble for as little as 10K vs. 250K [17:38] What makes an investor an “Accredited Investor” Net worth of one million or more excluding their house, car and life insurance Husband and wife with a salary of 300K or more, with every expectation that will continue Or one spouse makes over 200k per year, (with every expectation that will continue) Less common Trust fund of more than 5 million, Corporation, Partnership or LLC worth more than 5 million Banks, Broker/Dealers, Mutual Funds, Insurance, Small Business Development Companies [19:18] What qualifies as a “Prior Relationship” The SEC won't define it [21:10] How to go about advertising to accredited investors Go to a broker/dealer that specializes in alternative investments [21:52] The difference between advertising and networking [22:37] The importance of doing a PPM You are required to provide a PPM to all non-accredited investors You want to provide a PPM to accredited investors because they can sue you for fraud for not disclosing all "material information" If you don't, and the deal goes sideways you could easily lose everything you have. In most states that includes your house and your kid's college fund. In most states, you cannot discharge a securities law judgment or fraud judgment in bankruptcy ALWAYS DO A PPM! [26:43]- Time and cost of drafting an Operation Agreement and PPM Three weeks for initial draft Could be completed in as little as five weeks [29:10] The basics of crowdfunding You can advertise to non-accredited investors BUT pay attention to the rules You must refund all money if you don't hit your goal. More work for an attorney, therefore, more expensive Connect with Steven Rinaldi Email: stevendrinaldi@msn.com Website www.rinaldilaw.com Phone number: 240-481-2706

Click on Image to Watch Video in QuickTime Player. This is a most confusing "report" from Bambi Francisco who on the one hand describes lots of free content on the web followed by a recommendation not to buy the video iPod because she says it's got lots of expensive limitations that will be fixed with an enhanced version in January.1. 44% web users have created their own content.2. Not easy to move your existing collection of videos to the iPod Video3. Will cost more money to make them work on iPod4. 10% of all video on the web is home or new studio madeAlexis Christoforous asks, "Do you think the Apple Video iPod is worth buying at this price point? A little hefty between three and four hundred dollars to watch movies on a two and a half inch screen." - ignoring it still plays music and displays photos and has 50% more space than the previous 20 GB model that was $299 two weeks ago.Bambi - "Right. First of all there's limited content out there. If you can watch a two and a half inch screen for an hour long then this product is for you. But then I don't think for the majority of people out there. It also takes a long time to download content onto that video iPod. And also a lot of the files that you have on your computer these days will have to be converted. And that's going to take money. And if you want to watch those videos on a TV, that's going to cost an additional amount."Bambi - "So wait for January, there's an enhanced version coming out. That's what I hear. So save your bucks and wait 'til then."Alexis - "Post Holiday Gift."
