Sarah is still in her Camp Era, and that includes giving us tips on nobody's-favorite-game, Simon Says. She is ruthless. We discuss why kids still get homesick sometimes when they're at camp, but now counselors are noticing that parents are "kid-sick," and have separation anxiety while their kids are away. Sarah offers an ADHD life hack that she created after becoming obsessed with the camp salad bar. Susie is just amazed that she's rolling the dice eating lettuce during a national parasitic outbreak. We discuss a funny Jimmy Kimmel clip that made Susie think about sunken cost fallcy and the plasticity of our minds. We learn about a man whose window on a flight broke, depressurizing the plane, and sucking his head outside while his wife had to hold on to him. Sarah rants about the price of margaritas at the Fresno airport, which is not a relatable story, but is hilarious.00:00 - Susie's Red Lips and Wild Stories Ahead00:44 - The ADHD Friend Who Disappears and Reappears02:27 - The Challenges of Kids' Medications at Summer Camp08:33 - Sarah's Simon Says Trick for Managing Feral Campers10:22 - How Technology is Ruining Camp Independence19:58 - Sarah's ADHD Life Hack: The Refrigerator Salad Bar23:45 - Processed Meats and Post-Camp Health Check-up29:01 - Bewitched, Simpsons, and Mom's Onion Remedies30:29 - Jimmy Kimmel, Placebo Effect, and Brain's Weirdness35:32 - Surviving a Flight Nightmare and Expressing Airline Rage47:06 - Apologies to the Dodo: Not Dumb, Just Misunderstood52:44 - Outrageous Margarita Prices at Fresno Airport53:50 - Join Patreon, Use Codes, Leave a Five-Star ReviewBrain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:Visit https://www.carawayhome.com/braincandypod to take an additional 10% off your next purchase.Get 15% off OneSkin with the code BRAINCANDY at https://www.oneskin.co/BRAINCANDY #oneskinpodTDM-RESERVATION: 1. This is the Live Call-in Show from this past Sunday night, August 9, 2026! Mike and Scott were back together for the hour taking your calls! We had lots of great calls during the hour this week as we discussed the idea of how Disney's Lakeshore Lodge will change the feel of Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground when it opens next summer a bit more. We also talked about some Princess Half-Marathon logistics, like heading to the Expo, possible courses, and more! Somehow, we got on the topic of our least-favorite resort "right now" in each of the categories with the chat, and that brought up a lot of "heat" during the hour! What would you say if you had to pick? Come join us in the BOGP Clubhouse this week at www.beourguestpodcast.com/discord. Please visit our website at www.beourguestpodcast.com. Lauren and Eric audit Disney's major D23 parks announcements from 2019 through 2024 to see which projects opened, changed, stalled, or quietly disappeared. Using their new “D23 Promise Meter,” they examine the difference between blue-sky concept art and projects concrete enough to influence a future Disney vacation. They also look ahead to the 2026 showcase, weighing likely updates for Villains Land, Piston Peak, Tropical Americas, DisneylandForward, Figment, Tomorrowland, and other rumored projects. The big question is whether Disney needs another wave of announcements or simply needs to prove that its existing plans are moving forward. HIGHLIGHTS • Lauren's audit tracks dozens of Disney Parks announcements from the 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024 D23 events. • The D23 Promise Meter separates blue-sky ideas from named projects, active construction, and confirmed opening dates. • Piston Peak, Villains Land, Tropical Americas, Monsters, Inc., and Disneyland expansion plans still need important details. • Eric and Lauren evaluate community predictions involving Figment, Tomorrowland, Spaceship Earth, Animal Kingdom, and a possible resort near the parks. • The hosts debate whether the 2026 showcase should reveal new attractions or focus on delivering what Disney has already promised. Jim Hill and Lauren Hersey are packing their bags for Anaheim and previewing what Disney fans can expect from D23 Day and the 2026 D23 Ultimate Fan Event. They dig into Disneyland exclusives, anniversary merchandise, rare character appearances, and some unexpected collectibles hitting the show floor. Along the way, Jim explains the history behind the Disneylandia name, Lauren investigates Disney's growing interest in repurposing park materials, and both try to make sense of Atari's surprising return to the Disney gaming conversation. HIGHLIGHTS • D23 Day at Disneyland brings exclusive merchandise, commemorative ears, a character cavalcade, and rare appearances by Merlin and the Blue Fairy. • The Disneylandia collection revives a name with roots in one of Walt Disney's earliest pre-Disneyland concepts. • Hunchback of Notre Dame and Alice in Wonderland anniversary merchandise join a packed lineup of D23 collectibles. • Atari arrives at D23 with new Toy Story releases, retro Disney games, and an exclusive convention pin. • Harveys turns retired Soarin' Over California seat belts into collectible bags as Jim and Lauren explore Disney's history of repurposing park materials. Skywalking Through Neverland: A Star Wars / Disney Fan Podcast
This week we're bringing you the first round of actor interviews we recorded at Rebel Scum Con 2026: The Mandalorian and Grogu stars Lateef Crowder (Din Djarin stunt performer), Matt Willig (Hogsbreth), and Jonny Coyne (Lord Janu)! Lateef Crowder takes us beneath the beskar to the Mandalorian's action scenes. He reveals that he sweated through two suits a day while filming The Mandalorian and Grogu, takes us inside the film's incredible ice-base battle, and recalls fighting Giancarlo Esposito during the unforgettable Darksaber duel in The Mandalorian S2. "Giancarlo does not play!" Next, Jonny Coyne reveals how his own name inspired the Imperial warlord Janu Coin. He recalls running up the Razor Crest ramp, filming with old-school practical effects, and shares Lord Janu's secret to surviving when so many other Star Wars villains have fallen: "You just become a rat!" Finally, Matthew Willig discusses becoming Hogsbreth, Lord Janu's towering Iktotchi enforcer. He is an intimidating 6' 8" in real life, but sweet as can be. The lifelong Star Wars fan shares what it was like transforming through horns and prosthetics, and why remaining menacing around an adorable, lifelike Grogu was nearly impossible. We also revisit his memorable role as Little Chino on Dexter. Next week: The Mandalorian & Grogu stunt & character performer team: Richard Cetrone - Rotta the Hutt Donald Mills - Embo Misty Rosas - Hugo Durant Matt Leonard - Zeb PODCAST SPONSORS Skywalking Through Neverland is an official Laughing Place Partner Podcast - check out laughingplace.com for Disney news and opinions. Between Midsummer Scream and earnings week, this issue is dense. Disney, Six Flags, and United Parks dropped earnings, and the news is positive overall for our industry. A Phil Svitek Podcast - A Series From Your 360 Creative Coach
Disney's live-action remakes continue to spark debate, but I think the bigger conversation isn't whether they're good or bad—it's what they reveal about the strengths of animation as a storytelling medium.I compare a scene from the live-action Moana trailer with the original animated film to explore why certain moments work so much better in animation. We dive into the differences between animation and live action, why translating scenes frame-for-frame often falls flat, and why successful adaptations focus on capturing the spirit of the original rather than copying it beat by beat. Whether you're a filmmaker, animator, writer, Disney fan, or simply interested in visual storytelling, this breakdown explores what each medium does best and why animation deserves to be valued as an art form—not viewed as a stepping stone to live action.

Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are both built for beating the Florida heat, but which Walt Disney World water park deserves the edge? Jim Hill presides as Len Testa and Chris Cox compare the parks' histories, theming, slides, wave pools, lazy rivers, and kid-friendly offerings. Along the way, they revisit River Country, Disney's long-gone shark swim, Summit Plummet, and the surprising executive vacation that helped push Typhoon Lagoon into development. The verdict ultimately comes down to what kind of water park day you want - tropical relaxation or bigger thrills. HIGHLIGHTS • How Jeffrey Katzenberg's frustrating attempts to visit River Country helped inspire Typhoon Lagoon. • Why Typhoon Lagoon's massive surf pool remains one of Walt Disney World's most distinctive water park experiences. • The lost shark-swimming attraction that combined frigid water with some very nervous guests. • Why families with younger children may prefer Typhoon Lagoon, while older kids and thrill seekers may lean toward Blizzard Beach. • Summit Plummet, Crush 'n' Gusher, Misadventure Falls, lazy rivers, transportation quirks, and the strengths of both parks. Wisconsin Democrats narrowly chose Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley over Democratic Socialist state representative Francesca Hong in the gubernatorial primary, 39.8 percent to 39.4 percent. It's close enough that this might be headed to a recount, but it doesn't appear that Hong won. Crowley, who was endorsed by Governor Tony Evers, will face Trump-endorsed Republican representative Tom Tiffany. The result halted the progressive left's recent primary momentum, but it still showed its strength in a battleground state. What you're probably going to hear about is the polling. After the polls wildly overestimated Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, the final State Navigate poll had Hong at 44 percent and Crowley at 22 percent — a 22-point Hong lead. Instead, Crowley won by 0.4 percent. That's a 22.4-point miss on the margin. Jeez Louise. Hong's vote share wasn't wildly off; the poll totally underestimated Crowley. The question is why these polls keep overrepresenting progressive-leaning voters. One theory is that more polls are using online surveys. The old problem with landline calls was that they overrepresented boomers because nobody under 60 had a landline. Nobody answers an unfamiliar number on a cellphone, so that leaves online responses, which might overrepresent progressives. It's also worth noting that the DSA endorsed Hong, but Bernie Sanders and AOC didn't. Pure DSA play isn't good enough to get you over the hump, even in a Democratic primary. Bernie and AOC provide some wiggle room away from the DSA's baggage.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Next door, Minnesota Democrats delivered a decisive progressive victory as Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan defeated Representative Angie Craig by 20 points for the open Senate nomination. Flanagan overcame a major spending disadvantage after attacking Craig's immigration record, particularly her 2025 vote expanding ICE authority. Republicans nominated former NFL reporter Michele Tafoya, but barring huge changes in the race, Flanagan is going to be Minnesota's next senator. In the governor's race, Amy Klobuchar easily secured the Democratic nomination, while state House speaker Lisa Demuth defeated Trump-backed My Pillow founder Mike Lindell. Please raise your combs in celebration.South Carolina's emergency election to replace Lindsey Graham is headed to an August 25 runoff between interim senator Darlene Graham and Representative Ralph Norman. Graham, Lindsey's sister and Trump's endorsed candidate, finished first with 32.7 percent. Norman took the second spot with 24.6 percent, narrowly eliminating Representative Russell Fry. The vote was pretty split, and I don't know whether Darlene has the juice to keep Norman off. A lot of Republicans were already angry that she decided to seek the seat permanently instead of serving as a placeholder. Ralph Norman has a real shot. The kiss of death for Darlene would be the double endorsement — a double Trump endorsement.Former Hartford mayor Luke Bronin also defeated 14-term Democratic representative John Larson, 54 percent to 33 percent. Larson, 78, became the seventh House Democrat defeated in a primary this cycle, while Governor Ned Lamont won renomination. In Alabama, Trump-endorsed Republican Rhett Marques advanced to face Democratic representative Shomari Figures in the redrawn Second District, where the Black voting-age population was reduced from 48 percent to 40 percent.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:05:42 - Tuesday Primary Results00:16:18 - Exploring Disney's America with Andrew Heaton01:19:36 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. There's a version of us that only shows up at Disney — a little lighter, a little more present, and somehow more ourselves. In this episode of Living by Disney, host Serena sits down with Julie Voris, a lifelong Disney lover turned Walt Disney World cast member and photographer, for a conversation about joy and the people we get to become in the parks.Together they explore why Disney gives us so much joy, how it invites us to drop the weight we usually carry, and what it means to live that joy out loud, both inside the parks and beyond. This is a warm, honest conversation about permission, presence, and the softest, truest versions of ourselves. Whether you're planning your next trip or just missing that feeling of home, this episode will leave you feeling seen… and a little more hopeful. You can find more of Julie on her website, and follow her on Instagram! If you enjoyed today's show please consider leaving us a review and let us know what you thought! Which version of you shows up when you pray?In this reflection on Psalm 55, John Ortberg explores a surprising truth about prayer: God doesn't want the cleaned-up, polished, "Disney version" of you. He wants the real you.The Psalms aren't theological essays or collections of perfectly polished emotions. They're raw prayers from real human beings bringing fear, anger, anguish, confusion, and desire honestly before God.John connects this idea to the original story of The Adventures of Pinocchio, which is much darker and more spiritually suggestive than the famous Disney adaptation. Pinocchio is lovingly created by his father, rebels against him, rejects his conscience, and longs for something he cannot accomplish on his own: to become real. And that's where Pinocchio's story intersects with ours.Transformation doesn't begin when we finally become the person we think God wants. It begins when the person we actually are becomes willing to stand honestly before Him.In this episode:Psalm 55 and honest prayerWhy every emotion in the Psalms isn't necessarily an instructionBringing our troubled thoughts before GodThe surprising theology of PinocchioConscience, rebellion, and the love of the FatherBiblical echoes of Jonah and the Prodigal SonMoving from a heart of stone to a heart of fleshWhy transformation begins with getting realScriptures:Psalm 552 Timothy 3:16–17Hosea 11:3Luke 15Jonah 1–2Matthew 12:38–40Ezekiel 36:26#Psalm55 #JohnOrtberg #Prayer #Psalms #Pinocchio #SpiritualFormation #ChristianFaith #BibleStudy #HonestPrayer #Transformation

Somebody Knows Something is a true crime series that asks whether the internet's obsession with unsolved cases, Reddit threads, true crime social media, armchair detectives, can actually help crack cases that have gone cold. Kara Chamberlain and executive producer Ari Mark join the show to talk about it. Kara, who hosts the series, brings a deeply personal understanding of violent crime to these stories: she's a kidnapping survivor herself. This episode covers the show's first two cases: the disappearance of baby Sabrina Aisenberg, missing from her crib in Valrico, Florida since November 1997, and the disappearance of 16-year-old LaShaya Stine, last seen in Aurora, Colorado in July 2016. Kara and Ari talk about why they chose these two cases, what they uncovered while making the series, and what it means for families who've been asking people to pay attention for years to finally have a platform that might reach the right person.
