In this provocative episode of ReversABLE, Josh Dech sits down with physician Dr. Tom Cowan for a wide-ranging conversation about disease, scientific reasoning, the heart, viruses, bacteria, environmental exposures, hormones, and the assumptions underlying conventional medicine. Cowan describes his unusual path into medicine, including 37 years in family practice, and explains the philosophy that drives much of his work: rather than immediately trying to determine what is true, first investigate whether the original claim has actually been demonstrated. That framework takes the conversation into controversial territory. Cowan challenges conventional explanations surrounding viruses and germ theory, using examples involving polio, measles, SARS-CoV-2, bacteria, antibodies, and laboratory procedures. He argues that some commonly accepted demonstrations of causation do not establish what they are claimed to establish. These are among the most contentious claims in the episode and are presented as Cowan's perspective rather than settled medical consensus. The discussion then shifts into physiology, where Cowan challenges the conventional description of the heart as a pressure-propulsion pump. He presents his theory of the heart as part of a vortex-based circulatory system and connects that concept to blood flow, pressure differentials, tissue-level physiology, and electrically charged water. Josh and Tom also explore mold, parasites, bacteria, environmental toxins, EMFs, inflammation, and the question of whether the presence of a microorganism necessarily establishes it as the root cause of illness. One of the most compelling themes throughout the conversation is critical thinking: separating observation from interpretation, correlation from causation, and established evidence from assumptions. For anyone interested in gut health, chronic illness, inflammation, the microbiome, immune system, root-cause health, functional medicine, or simply questioning how medical conclusions are reached, this episode offers a conversation designed to challenge your assumptions—and encourage you to investigate the claims for yourself. Mold's Hidden World: Exploring Micro-environments explores the tiny environments where mold lives, grows, and interacts with its surroundings. In this episode, we'll look at how factors like moisture, temperature, nutrients, and humidity create ideal microenvironments for mold growth. We'll also discover how these small, often hidden spaces can have a big impact on mold's survival and development.
Mold in a Porsche. High spots on a fresh ceramic. And the one mistake that keeps detailers from getting real protection on the car.Marshall and Nick pull back the curtain on the kind of problems shop owners and serious enthusiasts run into every day - from dealing with mold remediation in modern vehicles to the exact reason coatings fail when people try to stretch product too far. If you've ever wondered whether you're using enough on the pad, enough on the panel, or enough on the process, this episode is going to hit home fast.Marshall also breaks down the real-world value of giving customers a path, not just a product - from maintenance kits to YouTube guidance to a complete ecosystem that helps shops protect cars and keep customers coming back. Nick adds the practical side of why some jobs should be left to the dealership, why overthinking tools can slow you down, and why “light usage” often just means not enough product on the surface. Then the conversation shifts to the bigger picture: Juice, Sliq , Spray Coat, Stack, and Eco One. What's the difference, when should you use each one, and how do dilution ratios and application style change the result? If you've ever second-guessed whether you're spraying enough, wiping enough, or mixing enough, this one clears it up.Essential listening for detailers, shop owners, and car lovers who want better results, fewer mistakes, and a simpler system that actually works.Chapter timestamps00:00 - Why sitting in a moldy car makes you rethink your whole day01:13 - Enzyme cleaning mold and why masks matter02:11 - Pulling mats, frunk talk, and when to replace instead of save04:25 - Why removing seats on modern cars is an insurance problem05:16 - Old-school flood-and-extract methods versus modern remediation07:56 - Dodge truck jokes and why truck owners get so defensive10:36 - Uno questions and the rule of loading the applicator thick12:19 - Why underapplying coating causes flashing and missed coverage15:54 - Why protection only works if you actually use enough of it17:14 - How Stack, Uno, Trey, and Sparta get used panel by panel19:19 - What a high spot is and why it is mostly just ugly21:39 - Nathan's customer gets a full maintenance path, not just a coating23:34 - Turning YouTube and the Facebook group into a product encyclopedia26:15 - Why shops can cut their cost in half by building kits into every job28:08 - Coating a new Traverse RS and the right order for trim, glass, and paint30:50 - Which detailing lights are worth buying and which ones are overhyped33:40 - Whether glass needs polishing before coating35:24 - How to fix a high spot with VLO, Lux, or a towel method38:56 - Looking back and forward while you coat so you do not miss anything43:46 - Juice versus Slick versus Spray Coat versus Stack48:46 - Why product cost should not make you underapply50:23 - Why Nick does not like using rinseless or waterless on interiors55:10 - Eco One dilution ratios and how the 5-gallon cube works59:05 - Closing thoughts and the value of the HyperClean Specialists group

Hey there Voices of the Bench community, this is Trish Jones with Ivoclar. If you've been curious about fast-firing zirconia to improve efficiency but aren't convinced it can deliver predictable, high-quality results, I'd encourage you to connect with us. Our new IPS Emax Zirconia offers multiple fast-fire protocols designed to help save you valuable production time while maintaining consistent results. Time is money in every lab. Don't wait. Reach out to your local Ivoclar rep today and discover how IPS Emax Zirconia can help streamline your workflow. As full-arch dentistry continues to grow, so do the demands on today's dental laboratories. That's why Knight Dental recently launched SimplyARCH Studio, a dedicated production environment built exclusively for full-arch restorations. To support this specialized workflow, Knight invested in an XTCERA milling system and carefully evaluated multiple CAM software solutions before choosing hyperDENT. The decision came down to exceptional milling quality, minimal hand finishing, and impressive production efficiency. But what truly set hyperDENT apart was the implementation process. From the very beginning, the team provided more than software training—they shared the knowledge and experience needed to build an optimized workflow for complex full-arch cases. With proven expertise in advanced milling strategies and laboratory production, hyperDENT helped ensure SimplyARCH Studio was designed for long-term success from day one.Matt Everatt joins Elvis and Barb for a fascinating conversation that takes a deep dive into his journey through the dental laboratory industry and the story behind his book, The Invisible Profession. From discovering dental technology at 16 and specializing in maxillofacial prosthetics and orthodontics to working in hospitals, developing early sleep-apnea appliances, and nearly leaving the profession altogether, Matt's career has taken some seriously interesting turns. Eventually, he helped co-found S4S, building a successful business around sleep-apnea appliances, occlusal splints, orthodontics, and more before eventually stepping away from ownership. From polishing hearing-aid earpieces to becoming the first female clinical dental technician to qualify in the UK, Caroline Kirkpatrick has taken a pretty incredible—and definitely unconventional—path through dental technology. Caroline joins Barb and Elvis to talk about how a broken denture repair sign outside a dental laboratory sparked her interest in the industry, her early years learning crown and bridge, orthodontics, and working in a dental hospital, and how her curiosity pushed her to learn every side of the profession. Eventually, that curiosity led Caroline to become one of the first four technicians accepted into the UK's pioneering clinical dental technology program in 2010. But Caroline's story doesn't stop at the bench. She built her own laboratory, taught dental technology, treated patients clinically, raised a family, and continued pushing herself into digital dentistry. She shares how she experimented with early digital workflows, 3D printing, digital dentures, and eventually exocad—and why she believes the best digital workflow isn't necessarily the fanciest one, but the one that actually works in the real world. Caroline also talks about working with her sister and daughter in the family lab, the importance of exposing young technicians to different laboratories and workflows, and why sharing the mistakes you've made can sometimes be one of the best ways to help someone else learn. From Scotland to the world of digital dentures, this is a great conversation about curiosity, adaptability, education, and never being afraid to learn something new. You know what's expensive in a dental lab? Most people would say the mill, but the real cost is downtime. When production stops, everything backs up—cases get delayed, technicians get frustrated, and customers start asking questions. That's why reliable equipment matters. Roland DGA's DGSHAPE DWX milling solutions are built for dependable production, helping labs stay on schedule and keep work moving day after day. Less downtime means fewer surprises and more time doing what your lab does best. And when your equipment is reliable, your customers notice the difference. Reliability isn't just a feature—it's the foundation of a successful lab. Visit rolanddental.com to learn more about Roland's DGSHAPE DWX milling solutions.Special Guest: Caroline Kirkpatrick.

We talk a lot on this show about root causes...what you eat, what you're exposed to, what you're healing inside of. This episode is about the one almost nobody checks: the air in your own home. Ariana Thacker is a chemical engineer and venture capitalist who, by her own description, was a highly functional human — daily boot camp, dialed-in diet, running a VC firm solo. Within months of moving into a new apartment, she was rereading simple emails just to process them, losing clumps of hair, and getting winded on the stairs. She saw more than a dozen providers — immunologists, allergists, pulmonologists, neurologists, PCPs — and none of them ran the right test. Most didn't believe mold could cause a whole-body inflammatory response at all. It took a Shoemaker-certified physician to name it: CIRS, chronic inflammatory response syndrome. She had one of the "dreaded" HLA haplotypes — part of the roughly 24% of the U.S. population that can't clear biotoxins on its own. She got better. Then she built the road she'd just clawed her way down. Ariana is the founder and CEO of MoldCo, a virtual clinic that answers three questions: Am I being exposed? Is mold making me sick? How do I get better? — with a $199 home test and a lab panel that starts at $56, roughly a tenth the cost of what most people pay to guess. Jen shares her own story too: a mold inspection that came back clean, and the leak found years later behind the living room wall by the family who bought the house. In this episode Why "highly functional" doesn't protect you — and how fast the symptoms started The 24% with a genetic susceptibility to mold, and what HLA haplotypes actually mean What CIRS is, and why ~80% of cases trace back to a water-damaged building Why the urinary mycotoxin test may be sending people down the wrong path — and the inflammatory markers (MMP9, MSH, TGF beta-1, C4A) that matter more How to hire a mold inspector who's actually qualified — the certifications to ask for and the 70-page report you should expect Why mold grows within 24–48 hours of water intrusion, and why new builds can be worse, not better The "canary effect": why one person in a house gets sick and nobody else does Prescription binders vs. natural binders — and why the natural route can take ten times longer Do air purifiers actually help? Moldy coffee and protein powder: is ingested mold the real threat, or is it what you're breathing? The environmental red flags to walk your own house for this week If you take one action Look up Shoemaker biotoxin symptom clusters (S-H-O-E-M-A-K-E-R). If a lot of those boxes light up for you — you only need one symptom per box to count — that's a strong signal to investigate your environment. Then walk your home for: that earthy, musty odor (especially in a basement), visible mold, peeling or cracking paint, warped flooring, dust on your HVAC vents, and indoor humidity consistently above 60%. In this short podcast episode, Bryan and Roman talk about Florida law and how it relates to the "M-word" (mold) and the legal boundaries our techs must respect when they communicate with customers. HVAC School and Kalos are NOT mold experts, but we have experience as HVAC professionals who encounter suspicious microbial growth in our market (and cannot diagnose or remediate mold). We cannot use the word "mold" because "mold" MUST be diagnosed by a certified mold assessor via laboratory testing according to Florida law. A guess based on sight does NOT qualify as a diagnosis; it is the equivalent of diagnosing a compressor failure as acid contamination without a test that proves the presence of acid. Residential property owners, however, are allowed to identify, remediate, and speak freely about mold in their own homes (which Roman can do because he hired mold assessors and remediators in his home). Florida limits HVAC contractors from diagnosing mold (or removing more than 10 contiguous square feet while removing, maintaining, or installing equipment) to prevent scare tactics in sales, such as by diagnosing "toxic mold" in a drain, or to sweep larger problems under the rug. There are also many different mold types that have specific characteristics that can only be identified by an assessor; HVAC contractors are not trained to recognize those. However, mold is part of our work whenever we clean coils, HVAC units distribute air (which contains mold spores from outside), and we manage moisture (which contributes to fungal growth). Mold assessors also have specific diagnostic tools and send lab samples. HVAC contractors don't have those resources, training, or certification. As HVAC contractors, need to be educated on mold, but we also need to understand our limitations; we can't diagnose it or make decisions for customers. What if that moldy AirBnB wasn't the true cause of your illness, even after you found mycotoxins in your lab work? What if there was a deeper emotion behind it? In this episode, Dr. Chris Motley sits down with Dr. Howard Cohn to talk about emotional root causes, stacking protocols to truly get well and the tool that gives his patients six months of therapy in under a minute. Learn more at https://biostacking.com/, where you can sign up to learn all the protocols and transformative health education discussed in this episode. Dr. Howard Cohn has been in practice for over 35 years, trained thousands of doctors, and built health companies that reached 14 countries. But the insight that changed everything in his practice wasn't exotic — it was the realization that most patients weren't failing because they lacked the right answer. They were failing because nobody had given them the right combination, in the right order, at the right time. In this episode you will learn: What Bio Stacking actually means — and why it's fundamentally different from biohacking, which gives you one tool when you need a whole toolkit Why the right treatment done at the wrong time is the wrong treatment — and how Dr. Cohn's wellness scoring system (1–100) determines exactly where to start The "combination to a safe" analogy: why knowing all the right answers (mold detox, binders, acupuncture, red light, ozone) still won't work if you dial them in the wrong sequence. The concept of psychogenetics — how unprocessed emotional events in parents and grandparents can tag the genes and pass down to children as physiological responses, not just behavioural ones Why most "root cause" doctors are actually somewhere along the stem — and what it really means to keep asking "why" until you reach the constitutional root Why alkalinity is Dr. Cohn's fifth vital sign - and how oxygen from greens like wheatgrass fight inflammation and infections. How Dr. Cohn created a nutritional line for his patients to fill nutritional gaps due to depleted nutrients in our soil degrading our food. How the Cohn vision of health isn't necessarily about being symptom-free. It's about having the tools to live with ease amidst all the modern-day environmental stressors we encounter like toxins and EMFs. In Dr. Cohn's way of thinking, “if you don't have a filter, you are the filter.” Mold symptoms may have as much to do with emotional chaos in your life as mold. Dr. Cohn advocates the use of NET, which he describes as a fusion of Chinese Medicine and pavlovian conditioning, and explains why it can provide six months of therapy in a minute. When you think of home improvement, you probably imagine a world filled with shiny tools, Pinterest-perfect DIY projects, and maybe a few too many trips to the hardware store. But let's face it, there are some home myths floating around that are just waiting to be busted. Join Eric G. as he dives into the nitty-gritty of home myths that have been circulating like gossip at a family BBQ. In the second hour of the show, he goes all-in on construction myths, revealing the truth behind the drywall you might be using in your bathroom. Spoiler alert: If you think that water-resistant drywall is your golden ticket, think again! Eric breaks it down with a metaphor that'll stick with you longer than that stubborn wallpaper you've been meaning to remove. It's like wearing a water-resistant jacket in a downpour; sure, you might stay dry for a bit, but eventually, you'll be soaked and regretting your choices. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. The conversation takes a turn towards the often-overlooked realms of HVAC and insulation myths, where Eric shines a light on the common misconception that bigger is always better. He tackles the idea that you should crank up your AC unit to the max to keep your home cool, only to reveal that it could be doing more harm than good. It's a rollercoaster of insights as he shares tales from his own experiences, showcasing how simple changes can lead to significant improvements in home comfort and efficiency. And let's not forget about the dangers of essential oils in your HVAC system—trust me, it's not as fragrant as it sounds! So, if you're looking to navigate the murky waters of home improvement with a smile and a few chuckles, this episode is your go-to guide for separating fact from fiction in the world of home myths.Takeaways:In the world of home improvement, some myths are as outdated as your grandma's wallpaper, like thinking drywall is fine behind bathroom tiles—spoiler alert: it's not!Did you know that essential oils in your HVAC system might sound zen but could actually set your house on fire? Yeah, let's skip that trendy idea, folks!Believing bigger is better when it comes to AC units is a recipe for disaster; short-cycling can lead to humidity problems and high bills—no thanks! The myth that closing vents in unused rooms saves energy is a big no-no; it can actually jack up duct pressure and lead to costly repairs!Mold cleaning with bleach? Don't even think about it! It's like using a band-aid on a broken bone; you need proper remediation to tackle that pesky fungus. Finally, just because you're in a brand new home doesn't mean it was built perfectly; independent inspections are a must to catch those hidden flaws before they become major headaches!Links referenced in this episode:aroundthehouseonline.comgreenbuildingsupply.comcallowell.comCompanies mentioned in this episode:Lowe'sArdexWediSchluterHardieCallowelGreen Building SupplyThanks for listening to Around the house if you want to hear more please subscribe so you get notified of the latest episode as it posts at https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/listenIf you want to join the Around the House Insider for access to the back catalog, Exclusive Content and a direct email to Eric G and access to the show early https://around-the-house-with-e.captivate.fm/support We love comments and we would love reviews on how this information has helped you on your house! Dr. Hoffman continues his conversation with chemical engineer and MoldCo founder Ariana Thacker.
Chemical engineer and MoldCo founder Ariana Thacker discusses mold-related illness, including chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS), as a major blind spot in conventional care for chronic, multi-system symptoms. Thacker recounts developing rapid-onset brain fog, slurred speech, GI issues, hair loss, weight gain, and shortness of breath after six and a half months in a moldy Miami apartment, seeing over a dozen specialists who attributed symptoms to stress or anxiety. They discuss exposures beyond allergy (mycotoxins, VOCs, microbial fragments), genetic susceptibility (HLA haplotypes), and prevalence estimates tied to water-damaged homes. The episode covers home detection (sensory/visual checks, humidity, dust PCR/ERMI testing, certified inspectors) and diagnostics/treatment via Shoemaker-related biomarkers and protocols, including low-starch diet guidance and VIP peptide therapy, plus MoldCo's testing and virtual care services.
In this CIRS Group Podcast episode, hosts Jacie and Barbara interview Brian Tinker, founder of Breathe Well Homes and a master builder with 30+ years of experience, whose work became personal after his wife's CIRS diagnosis revealed their home's role in her illness. Brian explains how moisture control is the core issue behind mold problems and why modern “tighter” energy codes can create sick homes without proper ventilation. He highlights common high-risk materials and methods (e.g., OSB, MDF, spray foam off-gassing, flex ducting, traditional grout), shares practical strategies for moisture management, wall assemblies that can dry, and using ERV/HRV systems to keep homes breathing. He discusses cost increases (about 35–45%), his course and consultations, remote build guidance, and his newer Breathe Well Vans concept, plus interest in manufactured homes for faster, lower-cost options. Fewer EPA headlines can feel like a green light, but environmental liability does not disappear when oversight fades. We sit down with CRC environmental specialists Harrison Scheider and Dustin Helmenstein to unpack the biggest misconception we hear from insureds and even seasoned agents: “less regulation means less environmental risk.” The laws that create liability largely remain, and the pollution exclusion in GL and property policies can turn an everyday incident into a painful coverage surprise. We dig into what makes environmental claims so tricky, and along the way, we connect the dots for common insured profiles including contractors, manufacturers, real estate owners, habitational and hotel risks, healthcare, and municipalities, plus what faster permitting and accelerated construction can change on the ground. To keep it practical, we share four questions retail agents can use right now to uncover exposures early, create better renewal conversations, and avoid relying on limited GL endorsements that are not true affirmative pollution coverage. If you want a clearer, more confident way to talk environmental insurance, pollution liability, and coverage gaps with clients, hit play and take notes. Creating a Healthier Home: Indoor Air Purification and Reverse Osmosis Water Safety. Environmental and wellness expert Helen Christoni discusses reducing toxic exposures at home through improved indoor air and water quality. Christoni describes her health crisis—severe osteoporosis at 42 and multiple fractures—which she attributes to chronic artificial fragrance exposure in beauty product development, and how purifying air and water helped her recover and later complete multiple marathons. They discuss indoor air hazards such as VOCs (including formaldehyde), microplastics, wildfire smoke particles, and the importance of using a sealed, high-grade HEPA (down to 0.003 microns) plus substantial carbon filtration, proper room sizing, and filter maintenance; they caution against relying on ionizers or UV add-ons. On water, Christoni urges reverse osmosis to address contaminants including lead, PFAS, pharmaceuticals, and arsenic, noting boiling concentrates pollutants; they also discuss shower filtration for chlorine/chloramines. Abundant Wellness With Andrea- From Surviving to Thriving in Mind, Body and Spirit
What if the environment you live in is affecting your ability to heal? In this episode of the Abundant Wellness Podcast, Andrea Jones sits down with Jason Earle, founder of Got Mold and Mycolab, to unpack the often-confusing relationship between mold, dampness, indoor air quality, and human health. Jason shares his deeply personal journey—from childhood asthma and severe allergies that mysteriously disappeared after leaving a musty farmhouse, to discovering the connection between buildings and health and eventually becoming one of the early pioneers in mold detection and indoor environmental assessment. Together, Andrea and Jason discuss why mold-related illness can be so difficult to navigate, why testing alone shouldn't be used to diagnose either a person or a building, and what to look for when you suspect your environment may be contributing to symptoms. In this episode, you'll learn: Jason's personal history with asthma, allergies, and environmental exposures How leaving a moldy farmhouse dramatically changed Jason's health Why our homes can be thought of as an extension of our immune system The difference between mold and the larger issue of building dampness The "Fast Four" (or "Fast Five") questions to ask when evaluating your environment Why a history of water damage is one of the most important clues What visual signs of moisture and dampness to look for in your home Why musty or earthy odors shouldn't be ignored How your symptoms changing when you leave a building can provide important information Why recent renovations and new construction can introduce additional chemical exposures Why Jason believes a mold assessment is really a moisture assessment How to approach environmental testing without falling into fear or confirmation bias The limitations and potential problems with ERMI, petri-dish/settling-plate testing, mycotoxin urine testing, and other commonly promoted tests Why a test from a building cannot diagnose a person—and a test from a person cannot diagnose a building How conflicts of interest can influence mold inspections and remediation recommendations What to look for when choosing an independent environmental professional Why addressing the source of moisture is often more important than simply testing for mold The importance of considering air, food, and attitude when supporting recovery The role of the nervous system in environmental sensitivity and healing How Jason moved from mold avoidance toward resilience and being able to live a normal life again Why healing doesn't have to mean living in fear of every exposure A key takeaway One of the biggest messages from this conversation is that context matters. Rather than relying on a single test result to determine whether a person is sick or whether a building is unsafe, Jason encourages a more comprehensive approach: look at the history of the building, signs of moisture, odors, symptoms, and how those symptoms change when you're away from the environment. The goal isn't to create more fear around mold. It's to understand your environment, address problems strategically, and create a healthier space that supports your body rather than constantly challenging it. Resources mentioned Jason has created a dedicated resource page for this episode with an educational ebook, inspection guidance, and additional resources: gotmold.com/abundantwellness You can also learn more and connect with Jason through Got Mold and find additional information about indoor environmental health.

Water is the number one enemy of building durability—and the first control layer every builder, architect, and designer needs to understand. In Part 1 of a four-part Back to Basics series, Steve, Jake, and Pete break down the principles of water management that every high-performance building depends on.The conversation starts where most rain begins: the roof. From roof design and drainage to flashing strategies and capillary action, the crew explores how liquid water moves through buildings and why good design is the first line of defense. They also discuss how patterns of water damage in both historic and modern buildings reveal timeless lessons about moisture management. One of the episode's most interesting discussions comes when building science theory meets real-world practice. Steve approaches water management from an architect's perspective, while Jake explains the practical realities builders face every day. The result is a thoughtful conversation about balancing ideal building science with constructability in the field. This is Part 1 of a four-part series covering the four fundamental building control layers: Water, Air, Vapor, and Thermal.Pete's Resources:Joe Lstiburek – Moisture Control for BuildingsEPA – Moisture Control Guidance for Building Design, Construction, and MaintenanceWater in Buildings: An Architect's Guide to Moisture and Mold
Contractors face environmental exposures that can lead to costly claims, coverage disputes, project delays, cleanup expenses, legal defense costs, and third-party liability. In this episode of the Environmental Strategist Podcast, presented in partnership with the Risk & Insurance Education Alliance, Brooks Bunbury is joined by Christopher Pell, Senior Underwriting Manager with Intact Insurance, Midwest and Eastern Environmental Division, to explore real-world contractor pollution liability claims and the environmental insurance solutions that can help protect businesses. The conversation examines current environmental insurance market conditions, growth in contractor pollution liability coverage, and the types of claims carriers are seeing across the construction and contracting space. Examples include mold from an improperly installed HVAC system, asbestos-contaminated demolition debris, underground utility strikes, fuel line leaks, stormwater runoff, liquid asphalt spills, illicit dumping, vapor intrusion, and aging underground storage tanks. Listeners will also learn how Contractors Pollution Liability (CPL), site pollution coverage, transportation pollution liability, underground storage tank coverage, and related environmental insurance products may respond to exposures that are often excluded or limited under general liability, commercial auto, or property policies. The episode also offers practical underwriting insights for agents and brokers, including why project lists, loss runs, financial stability, health and safety practices, and well-drafted contracts matter when placing environmental coverage. This episode is ideal for insurance agents, brokers, risk managers, contractors, and environmental insurance professionals who want to better understand contractor pollution exposures, coverage gaps, and the importance of environmental financial assurance. Key Topics Environmental liabilities facing contractors Current environmental insurance market conditions Growth trends in contractor pollution liability (CPL) Mold claims and water intrusion exposures Asbestos contamination and demolition risks Fuel spills, leaking tanks, and underground utility strikes Vapor intrusion, silica, PFAS, and stormwater runoff Contractor Pollution Liability (CPL) coverage Environmental Impairment Liability (EIL) and site pollution coverage Transportation Pollution Liability coverage Underground Storage Tank (UST) risks and insurance considerations Legal defense costs in environmental claims Contractual environmental insurance requirements Environmental financial assurance programs Underwriting best practices for contractors How pollution coverage can provide a competitive bidding advantage Key Takeaways Environmental exposures exist for nearly every contractor, not just environmental specialists. Excavation, demolition, HVAC, plumbing, utility installation, roofing, and transportation operations can all trigger costly pollution claims. Standard general liability policies often contain pollution exclusions that leave contractors uninsured for significant environmental losses. Contractor Pollution Liability (CPL) coverage can address cleanup costs, bodily injury, property damage, business interruption, natural resource damages, and legal defense costs. Mold continues to be a major source of environmental claims affecting contractors across multiple trades. Underground utility strikes, fuel releases, asbestos discoveries, and stormwater runoff can quickly generate six- and seven-figure losses. Transportation Pollution Liability fills important coverage gaps that may not be addressed by commercial auto policies. Aging underground storage tanks present increasing risk and may become more difficult and expensive to insure over time. Strong safety programs, favorable loss histories, stable finances, and well-written contracts can improve underwriting outcomes and pricing. Contractors can use pollution liability coverage as a differentiator when competing for projects that require environmental financial assurance. I am delighted to connect with Michael Rubino today. Michael is the founder and CEO of Home Cleanse and the chair of Change the Air Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving indoor environments and public health. He is widely recognized as the leading authority on mold remediation and indoor air quality. In our conversation, we explore the connection between indoor air quality, gut permeability, and systemic inflammation. Michael explains how modern building practices, energy efficiency measures, and newer building materials may be contributing to health challenges. We discuss the types of tests he uses in his business, the symptoms he often sees in middle-aged women, considerations for frequent travelers, and why a bio-individual, data-driven approach matters for remediation. We also examine the role of genetics; the link between poor indoor air quality, leaky gut, and inflammation; practical interventions; the influence of social media; and what to look out for when contemplating a home addition or renovation. Mold exposure is, in my view, one of the most commonly overlooked contributors to chronic health issues in functional medicine. Its effects on the gut impact the health of the microbiome, increasing susceptibility to leaky gut, which can fuel neuroinflammation, and impair detoxification pathways. Stay tuned for a truly insightful discussion on indoor air quality, mold exposure, and the hidden environmental factors that may be influencing your health. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: How energy-efficient building practices may be contributing to indoor air quality concerns Why traditional air sampling may not provide a complete picture of mold exposure Testing options for evaluating mold and mycotoxin exposure Symptoms associated with mold and indoor environmental exposures How to reduce the likelihood of mold exposure while traveling Factors to consider when developing a remediation plan How poor indoor air quality can contribute to gut dysbiosis, leaky gut, and inflammation How genetics can influence susceptibility to mold and environmental exposures Why recommendations such as dehumidification and opening windows can only be helpful when applied appropriately Practical ways to improve indoor air quality and reduce mold exposure Bio: Michael Rubino Michael Rubino is an air quality expert and environmental wellness advocate. He is the founder of HomeCleanse, a company specializing in science-based remediation of toxic indoor environments, and chair & co-founder of the Change the Air Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to education and policy advancement around indoor air health. Today is a special episode! I'm joined by Jenny McCarthy, who you might know as an actress, television personality, or the founder of Formless Beauty. But today, she's here to share her full mold story. After years of unexplained symptoms, countless doctor visits, and trying to piece together what was happening to her health, Jenny finally discovered that mold and mycotoxins were a major part of the puzzle. We discuss why mold illness is so often missed, how exposures can happen in places you'd never suspect, and why testing both your body and your environment can help connect the dots much sooner.Jenny also opens up about what her recovery looked like, including the treatments and strategies that helped her heal, why opening detox pathways mattered, and the role gut health played in getting her life back.If you've been struggling with symptoms that no one seems to have an answer for, or you've wondered whether your environment could be part of the problem, I think you'll get a lot out of this episode.Want to learn more about Jenny's clean beauty brand?Visit FormlessBeauty.comReady to connect the dots between your home and your health? On this episode, Jared and Jen introduce a new Full Moon Parasite Cleanse Protocol designed in conjunction with Cellcore Biosciences, to make parasite cleansing simpler, more affordable, and easier to follow than a comprehensive 90-day program. They explain why timing a cleanse around the full moon matters, discuss the role parasites may play in common symptoms like fatigue, bloating, brain fog, cravings, and digestive discomfort, and walk through each phase of the protocol - from drainage support and binders to rebuilding the gut afterward. They also compare this protocol to their original 90-day parasite cleanse, discuss who may benefit from each approach, and share practical tips for minimizing discomfort during a cleanse. They also explain the included symptom quiz, companion eBook, and how to choose the approach that best fits your health goals.Products:Full Moon Parasite Cleansing Protocols3 Month Parasite Cleansing ProtocolCellCore CoreMend GI Constipation Support Additional Information:Parasite Burden Quiz359: Comprehensive Detoxification of Parasites, Lyme, and Other Toxins With Dr. Todd Watts of CellCore Biosciences431: Are Parasites Part of Your Health Concerns? Hey, Heal Squad! Today we're throwing it back to one of our most eye-opening conversations with Dr. Christopher Motley, a leading expert in functional kinesiology and Chinese medicine. If you've been following our recent episodes on mold toxicity, this is the perfect next listen because mold and Lyme disease often go hand in hand, sharing many of the same frustrating symptoms. Dr. Motley explains the surprising ways Lyme can enter the body, why so many people never fully recover, and the hidden role blocked drainage pathways play in keeping you sick. From EMFs, heavy metals, and mold toxicity to trapped emotions, he reveals how these invisible stressors overwhelm your body, disrupt your lymphatic system, and prevent true healing. We also dive into how trauma can become stored in your organs, what viruses like Epstein-Barr have to do with fatigue and hormone imbalances, and why restoring your body's Qi (your electromagnetic life force) may be one of the missing pieces to lasting wellness. If you've been doing everything "right" but still don't feel like yourself, this throwback episode will help you connect the dots and finally understand what could be keeping your body stuck. There is a lot of confusion online on what mold testing to do to determine if you're sick from toxic mold. The reason is because there are a lot of types of mold tests that test for different things. Living with chronic illness can feel like collecting diagnoses without getting real answers. Symptoms are treated one at a time, but the underlying causes can easily be missed. What if asking a different question is the first step toward feeling better? In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Richard Horowitz, an internationally recognized Lyme disease expert and author of the new book Ending Chronic Illness. After caring for thousands of patients over more than four decades, he explains why many seemingly unrelated conditions share common underlying drivers—and why thinking like a medical detective may help uncover them. We discuss: Why treating the diagnosis isn't always the same as treating the problem—and how to start looking deeper How hidden infections, environmental toxins, gut health, and other overlooked factors can quietly drive chronic illness What new research may reveal about the links between infection, inflammation, and brain health How to begin uncovering what's really driving persistent symptoms Our bodies are constantly communicating with us. The challenge isn't that they're silent—it's that we haven't always known how to listen. Sometimes finding better answers begins with asking different questions. Hey, Heal Squad! We're back with Part 2 of our must-listen conversation with Dr. Amy Myers…and this one is where we get into everything you actually DO about mold toxicity Dr. Amy walks Maria through the tests you actually need for mold toxicity, the detox protocol she uses in her own life to pull mycotoxins out of the body, and exactly how to clean up your environment (think dehumidifiers to HEPA filters to the food swaps that matter) …without having to build a mold-resistant house from scratch like she did. We also talk about simple things like how sweating daily, moving your bowels, and drinking filtered water aren't extras… they're detoxing. This is a great episode and playbook on what you can control with some amazing tools. So save this one and come back to it every time you move, renovate, travel, or feel a little "off" and can't figure out why. HEALERS & HEAL LINERS The tests to actually ask for (and the ones missing the real problem): Dr. Amy's full testing playbook includes starting with the HLA-DR gene test (available through LabCorp), the urine mycotoxin panel that shows what your body is excreting, the ERMI dust test that catches what standard mold air tests miss, and the specific immune markers (VEGF, C4A, MMP) that Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker uses to flag mold toxicity. She also names the mold inspector she trusts with her life! The 3 things Dr. Amy takes to get mold out of her body: Dr. Amy shares the exact 3-supplement stack she uses to detox mycotoxins: (1) acetylated glutathione, the number-one detoxifier in the human body, (2) a liver support supplement to help your liver process what's coming out, and (3) activated charcoal to bind the toxins and pull them out through your bowel movements. Then she connects it to the bigger picture : why infrared saunas, sweating daily, staying hydrated, and moving your bowels 1 to 3 times a day are the mechanisms doing the actual heavy lifting. How to clean up your environment (and what to eat) without moving out: Dr. Amy closes with her "control what you can" list of habits she runs every day to lower her exposure. Start with a HEPA filter in your bedroom (where you spend 8 to 10 hours a day). Add a dehumidifier to keep humidity under 35%, and empty it out regularly so it doesn't become the problem. Filter your drinking water AND your shower water. Eat organic at home so your body can handle whatever the outside world throws at you. Watch out for fast furniture and imported wool rugs. And the biggest one nobody wants to hear: SWEAT DAILY! Hey, Heal Squad! It feels like mold is everywhere these days...but how much of what we're hearing is actually true? That's exactly why we were so excited to welcome our friend of the pod, Dr. Amy Myers, back to Heal Squad. Dr. Amy is an internationally acclaimed functional medicine physician, 2x New York Times bestselling author (The Autoimmune Solution and The Thyroid Connection), founder of Austin UltraHealth, and host of the Take Back Your Health podcast. But here's what makes this conversation hit differently...mold toxicity is deeply personal for Dr. Amy. She's lost everything to mold three-and-a-half times. She's been diagnosed with PTSD. She flew in a trauma specialist to help her heal. And she is telling us everything she wishes she had known sooner.Today, Maria and Dr. Amy break down the biggest do's and don'ts of mold toxicity. This is the one you're going to want to send to everyone you know. We get into why toxic mold is so different from everyday household mold, why water-damaged buildings are the real hidden culprit, the gene 1 in 4 people carry that means their body literally can't clear mold (and why women are hit so much harder than the men living in the same house), why women are so often dismissed when mold is the underlying issue, and the surprising places mold loves to hide...even when you can't see it. The best part? Dr. Amy doesn't just tell us what to watch out for…she shares the simple habits she uses in her own home to help prevent mold before it becomes a problem, along with practical ways to lower your risk without living in fear. Trust us...this conversation will have you looking at your home a little differently, and it might just explain symptoms you've never been able to connect. HEALERS & HEAL LINERS The biggest mold do's and don'ts every homeowner should know: From why she avoids front-loading washing machines and installs leak detectors under every sink, to the mistake people make when buying brand-new homes and the difference between everyday mold and water-damaged buildings, Dr. Amy shares the practical habits she follows to protect her home…without living in fear. Women aren't crazy...they're being dismissed: Mold symptoms often look like anxiety, burnout, thyroid issues, brain fog, or perimenopause(1 in 4 people carry a gene (HLA-DR) that means their body literally cannot clear the toxins. Women are hit hardest.).. Instead of asking, "What's wrong with my body?" Dr. Amy says more women should be asking, "Could my home be making me sick?" It's a simple question that could uncover the hidden root of symptoms often blamed on hormones, stress, or aging. Dr. Amy built a mold-resistant dream home from the ground up and STILL got hit: If it can happen to her, it can happen to any of us, and that's exactly why you need to hear what she wishes she had known sooner. You'd think the dirtiest air you breathe all day is outside, but Mike Feldstein showed me it's the opposite. The average home is usually 5 to 10 times dirtier than the air outside, and since the 1970s we've built homes airtight for energy efficiency, so every new couch, rug, and coat of paint off-gasses right where you live. Could the biggest threats to your health be hiding in plain sight? When Dan Huber suddenly developed debilitating brain fog, chronic fatigue, anxiety, digestive issues, and neurological symptoms, over a dozen doctors failed to identify the cause. Years later, he discovered the real culprit: toxic black mold hidden beneath his home. That experience launched an obsession with environmental health that expanded far beyond mold. Today, Dan researches how mold exposure, blue light, circadian disruption, poor sleep, and chronic stress silently influence our energy, hormones, cognition, immune function, and overall longevity. In this episode, we discuss: • The surprising symptoms of mold toxicity • Why mold is often misdiagnosed • The connection between mold and brain health • How blue light affects dopamine, melatonin, and sleep • Morning sunlight and circadian optimization • Why your home environment may matter more than supplements • Practical ways to improve recovery, resilience, and overall health ----- 00:00 – How Black Mold Destroyed Dan's Health 08:05 – Why Mold Is So Often Misdiagnosed 11:23 – How to Know If Mold Is Hiding in Your Home 16:27 – Detoxing From Mold Exposure 19:15 – Living With Mold Sensitivity 22:22 – The Best Ways to Test Your Home for Mold 27:23 – What To Do If Your Home Tests Positive 32:36 – Why Blue Light Became Dan's Next Obsession 34:45 – How Blue Light Impacts Sleep & Mental Health 37:23 – Morning Sunlight & Circadian Rhythm 39:02 – Why Sleep Changes Everything 41:11 – Practical Ways to Reduce Blue Light 46:09 – Can We Eliminate Too Much Blue Light? 47:16 – Is Blue Light Worse Than Mold? 49:09 – The Simplest Health Habit Anyone Can Start Today 52:12 – Why Dan Started Helping Kids 57:03 – What "Ever Forward" Means to Dan ----- Episode resources: 15% off my favorite collagen coffee with code CHASE at StrongCoffeeCompany.com 33% off your new favorite gut health support system with code EVERFORWARD at 38TERA.com/everforward
Testosterone, not GLP-1s, is what finally let Chalene Johnson lose body fat and build real muscle after 40, and she's laying out exactly how in this episode. Chalene explains why her total testosterone always looked normal on paper while she still felt exhausted and stuck in the gym, until a clinician finally tested her free testosterone and SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) and found the real problem. In her words, total testosterone is the money in the bank, free testosterone is the cash in your pocket, and SHBG is the bank teller deciding how much you actually get to spend. She also gets into why she skipped the growth peptides everyone's talking about (tesamorelin, ipamorelin, CJC-1295) and switched from monthly testosterone injections to a daily cream instead. She talks candidly about the mold exposure that wrecked her hormones, caregiving through her father-in-law's Alzheimer's, and why she stopped weighing herself and started tracking body fat with an InBody scale instead. Topics discussed: testosterone for women, free testosterone, total testosterone, SHBG, hormone replacement therapy, perimenopause, GLP-1, tesamorelin, ipamorelin, CJC-1295, HGH, IGF-1, progressive overload, body composition, InBody scale, DEXA scan, mold toxicity, testosterone cream Midi Health testosterone for women: https://chalene.com/test Midi Health hormone and menopause care: https://chalene.com/midi Go Beyond The Podcast Join Chalene on her private podcast
