Spencer Pratt joins Bill Maher on Club Random for a conversation that's equal parts mayoral campaign launch, Los Angeles postmortem, and classic Spencer Pratt reinvention tour. Spencer explains why losing his home in the Palisades fire pushed him to consider a run for mayor, lays out his ideas for homelessness, public safety, and city government, and makes the case that he might be exactly the unconventional leader Los Angeles needs—or at least the one willing to talk about it the most. Along the way, Spencer reflects on life after The Hills, receiving death threats, protecting his family, losing a thriving crystal business during the pandemic, and finding a new sense of purpose while somehow turning nearly every conversation into a campaign stop. You are not overreacting. Your nervous system is not broken. It is doing exactly what it learned to do in environments where threat was the norm. In this episode, Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristof close out Season Five with one of the most important and least understood concepts in complex trauma: emotional flashbacks. Not the cinematic kind, not a sudden memory of a specific event, but the quiet, whole-system state shift that can color an entire day, week, or month in dread, loneliness, shame, and the bone-deep certainty that nothing will ever be okay. The episode opens with a reframe that changes everything: an emotional flashback is not a regression to the past. It is a real-time nervous system state that reorganizes how the brain filters reality. Perception shifts. Interpretation shifts. What feels possible shifts. And because it happens at the level of the whole predictive network, not just a single memory, it does not feel like the past. It feels like now. It feels like truth. Elisabeth and Jennifer trace exactly how this works through the lens of neuro somatic intelligence, constructed emotion theory, and the science of predictive processing. They explain what neuro tags are and how they get activated, why the amygdala hijack model is outdated and what a more accurate understanding of emotional flashbacks actually looks like, and why calling these states irrational or disordered misses the point entirely. The nervous system is not malfunctioning. It is preparing for threat based on what it has reliably learned to expect. Both hosts share vivid and honest personal examples. Elisabeth describes a recent subtle flashback triggered by being sick, underresourced, and feeling unsupported by her partner, and how quickly the narrative spread to her business, her relationships, and her sense of being completely alone. Jennifer shares the story of a red hummingbird feeder in her backyard that unlocked an entire somatic memory of loneliness and isolation she had not yet consciously connected to childhood. The episode also addresses something practitioners often ask about: how to tell the difference between emotional dysregulation that needs regulating, and an emotion that needs to be felt and moved through. The answer is not a clean line but a question of capacity, flexibility, and what the nervous system can hold in that moment. This is the final episode of Season Five and a natural bridge into Season Six, where Jennifer and Elisabeth will be expanding the lens from individual healing to collective nervous system dynamics, cultural structures, and what becomes possible when this work moves beyond the personal. Today, we face the harsh reality: America is unraveling, not by accident, but by outright rebellion against Biblical truth. Paul M. Neuberger brings the fire naming the spiritual war, exposing the compromise, the cowardice, the entertainment-addicted church, and the silent Christian majority. This isn't soft faith. This is costly faith. We name the cost: ridicule, criticism, rejection maybe from your workplace, your friends, or your own home. But here's the larger truth: Jesus is still on the throne. The Gospel is still undefeated. Revival starts when bold believers—men and women like you—refuse to stay silent. So, what will YOU do when your moment comes? Will you be lukewarm, or will you stand and fight?Buckle up. This episode is raw, real, and rooted in truth."So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth." –Revelation 3:16Episode Highlights10:04 - Christianity was never meant to be hidden privately while culture burns publicly. Right now, many believers are watching society collapse morally and spiritually while remaining silent because they fear rejection, criticism, or conflict. But silence has consequences. Passive Christianity creates spiritual weakness. Lukewarm faith produces compromise.29:39 - One of the greatest mistakes that Christians make today is believing America's problems are primarily political. They're not… At its very core, this is a war between truth and deception, between light and darkness, between God's design and rebellion against God's design.46:07 - Standing for truth may cost us something moving forward. Some believers are going to face criticism. Some are going to lose opportunities. Some are going to be mocked, rejected, misunderstood, or labeled as extreme… The question isn't whether following Christ is going to cost something. The real question is whether Jesus is worth it to you.Connect with Paul M. NeubergerWebsite

In this episode, Meg Bomley shares her T1D journey from being diagnosed at 18 years old and spending eight years on MDI without a CGM, to becoming someone who feels deeply empowered in her body and her diabetes.Meg first came on the podcast in 2022 after graduating from Risely coaching. At the time, she had just come out of a season of constant lows, burnout, and feeling completely overwhelmed after switching to a pump without the support she needed.Today, she's back as a nationally board certified health coach, and 35 weeks pregnant with type 1 diabetes, one of Risely's top coaches. The majority of this conversation is the reality of navigating pregnancy with T1D: the nausea, insulin resistance, fear of highs, changing carb ratios, and learning to trust yourself in this season.WHAT WE COVER:Why Meg resisted pumps and CGMs for nearly 8 years after diagnosisThe “biggest disaster ever” that happened when she first switched to a pumpWhat finally helped her stop feeling resistant, overwhelmed, and burnt out with diabetesHow coaching helped her uncover mindset blocks that had nothing to do with insulin or carb countingThe first sign Meg noticed that told her her insulin resistance was changing after getting pregnantHow she managed nausea, vomiting, insulin on board, and eating mostly carbs during pregnancyThe difference between taking 5 units for oatmeal pre-pregnancy vs. 16 units during pregnancyWhat it's actually like mentally to watch yourself take “large amounts of insulin” every dayWHAT'S NEXT:
Bill Maher welcomes legendary singer-songwriter Paul Anka for a conversation packed with stories that sound almost too wild to be true. From helping bring The Beatles to America before Beatlemania exploded, to partying with the Rat Pack in steam rooms full of Vegas showgirls, to learning of JFK's assassination while performing behind the Iron Curtain in communist Poland, Anka has lived a life that reads like historical fiction. But this isn't just Hollywood lore and old Vegas chaos. Bill and Paul dig into the craft of songwriting: why the simplest melodies last forever, what made Frank Sinatra both magnetic and impossible, and how Barry White could seduce a room with a single note. Anka also opens up about reinventing himself with his cult-classic Rock Swings album, surviving massive cultural shifts across generations, and why true artists never stop evolving. Jesus Followers Are Expected, by God, to Confess their Sins and Plead for Forgiveness {Penitence} Real Time MESSAGE SUMMARY: Penitence is not a once in a lifetime occurrence. Penitence is a daily and moment by moment, real time, occurrence. None of us is perfect, and not one of us always does the will of God. Paul, in Romans 2:4-5, is unequivocal in establishing the need for your continuing penitence and the consequences of your not repenting of your sins on a real-time basis: “Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.". Therefore, we all need to repent and return to the Lord. You can become cocky and arrogant in your spiritual life – “I am a Christian; God has done this for me.”. As the Psalmist tells us in Psalms 32:5 of his confession and his penitence: “I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,' and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.". You can rest on our perceived laurels; but these perceptions, of personal goodness and righteousness, can lead you quickly to a need for your penitence. TODAY'S PRAYER: Most merciful God I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I might delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of Your Name. Amen. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Inconsistencies. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit's fruit of Faithfulness. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f). The Love, Happiness and Success Podcast With Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby
Have you ever lost a whole afternoon to a conversation that ended three days ago? Picking it apart, wondering what the other person actually meant, mentally rehearsing what you should have said. There is a name for what your brain is doing. It is called rumination, and according to research from Yale, it is the single most damaging mental habit science can measure. In this episode, I sit down with Donna Jackson Nakazawa, the science journalist who has spent decades translating cutting-edge neuroscience into language regular humans can actually use. Her new book Mind Drama (out this week) is the most useful explanation I have read of what is actually happening in your brain when you cannot stop replaying a conversation, and what the science says you can do about it. Donna and I get into the survival biology behind your overthinking, the unexpected link between early relationships and adult thought patterns, and her real-time interruption tool. She walks me through it live, with my own ruminative mind as the example. It got pretty real. In This Episode The four-step framework Donna walked me through live, in real time, while I was actually overthinking something (it interrupts a spiral in under a minute) Why your brain creates these loops in the first place, and the evolutionary reason it cannot just stop on command The hidden link between your earliest relationships and the thought patterns you carry into adulthood The word for what you have been calling overthinking, and why nearly a third of adults have never heard it How rumination shows up at work, and the moment I realized I was doing it about my own business while we were recording The Yale research that names rumination as the biggest single predictor of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and even cognitive decline What science says does not work for overthinking (and why willpower keeps failing you) The reframe that changes everything: your rumination is a signal fire from your past, not a character flaw Why This Matters This episode is for anyone who has ever lost a whole day to a conversation that already happened. The smart, accomplished, self-aware woman who has read every book about mindset and still finds herself staring at the ceiling at 2 AM. The friend who knows logically that the email did not mean what she thinks it means, and who is on her seventh draft of a reply anyway. If you have ever caught yourself in a loop and thought, what is wrong with me, this conversation will start to answer that question. Spoiler: nothing is wrong with you. Episode Breakdown 00:00 The Mental Spiral You Can't Stop 03:51 What Rumination Actually Is 06:06 Is Overthinking a Symptom of Anxiety? 08:35 Why Your Brain Won't Let It Go: A Survival Response Gone Rogue 12:01 Inside the Default Mode Network 18:39 How Overthinking Shows Up at Work and in Your Relationships 22:22 The MIST Framework: How to Stop Overthinking in Real Time 38:53 The Old Story Underneath the Spiral 45:57 Reclaiming the Voice Your Rumination Has Been Hiding 55:42 When You Need a Real Person, Not Just a Strategy Resources Take the What's Holding You Back? Here is what I want you to take away from this conversation: your brain getting stuck in a loop is not a character flaw. It is a real neural pattern with real roots, and it is genuinely changeable. This Mindfulness in Action episode is a real-time practice in mental agility: the ability to notice what's happening in your thoughts, emotions, and body, and make small adjustments that help you stay aligned with what matters. In the previous solo episode, I talked about mental agility from a more practical and educational lens: emotional agility, attentional agility, mindfulness, and the internal and external shifters that help us regulate and adapt. In this episode, we take those ideas out of the theoretical space and into real life.I recorded this while moving outside, because movement often helps me feel more embodied and aware of what's happening in my inner world. I talk about resilience, adaptability, psychological flexibility, and the constant adjustments we make as athletes, parents, partners, professionals, and humans trying to do hard things. This episode includes a short mindfulness practice to help you notice where you might feel rigid mentally, emotionally, or behaviorally, and then gently practice shifting. Here's what you'll learn:- Mental agility is resilience in motion- Hard things happen on many scales- Flexibility takes practice- Emotions need space- Small actions build capacityLINKS- Recently solo episode on mental agility- MIA: What It Means to Get Better- MIA: How to Build Human Connection--------------The Grow the Good Podcast is produced by Palm Tree Pod Co.

Christian Thordal: Managing Cross-Team Dependencies in Scaled Agile, From Planning to Real-Time Coordination Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. "When one team's plan failed, the rest collapsed — deliveries and outcomes were delayed across the entire domain." - Christian Thordal In this episode, Christian Thordal shares the biggest challenge he faced as an Agile Coach working within a large Danish broadcast company's technology division, where 32 teams operate across multiple domains. Within his domain of 10 teams, they plan in three-month cycles using OKRs, but a critical blind spot kept undermining their results: nobody had a clear grasp of the dependencies between teams and sister domains. When one team's delivery slipped in a previous cycle, it triggered a cascade of failures across the organization. Christian and the agile coaching community escalated the issue to the portfolio and delivery department, pushing to synchronize cycle timing across domains. He introduced a "big room planning" approach within his domain to map out which teams they impact and who impacts them, structured around a three-week cadence: define OKRs, align, then commit. A key coaching insight reshaped his thinking: dependencies are not facts — they are decisions. By naming the specific people involved (the person who needs resolution and the person who provides it), teams can manage dependencies in real-time rather than waiting for a program management layer that only addresses problems after escalation. Christian now plans to establish dedicated coordination days during each cycle where teams actively collaborate and resolve dependency issues together. Self-reflection Question: When dependencies between your teams cause delivery failures, do you treat them as coordination problems to solve in real-time, or do you wait for escalation through a management layer? [The Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast Recommends]
On December 5, 2022, researchers at the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory achieved a landmark breakthrough in Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF), producing an energy output that exceeded the laser input for the first time. The success of an ICF experiment hinges on multi-stage lapping and polishing of fuel capsule shells to nanometer-scale finish and devoid of major surface defects. This talk presents our work with LLNL on assuring surface quality of the fuel capsule shells. Rare surface defects, such as deep pits, can severely degrade ICF performance. Exhaustive inspection across multiple finishing stages to detect these defects is both cost- and time-prohibitive. Conventional scalar surface quality quantifiers fail to capture the manifestation of rare surface pits. We investigated novel inspection strategies that substantially reduce measurement burden while retaining confidence in defect-risk estimation. Here, we impose a multivariate probabilistic bound on pit distribution estimation error to determine the minimal number of surface scans needed to guarantee a specified confidence level. This enables reliable assessment of deep pit risk using approximately 5 – 6 scans (a 5- to 10-fold reduction), thereby substantially reducing the inspection time per shell at each finishing stage. These challenges also motivate the need to move beyond reactive, post-process inspection toward proactive, process monitoring methods that can detect and mitigate the process anomalies that lead to these defects. In this context, we leverage generative machine learning methods conditioned on polishing process parameters combined with shell tracking to identify deviations from expected motion patterns that may lead to surface defects. We also introduce a deep learning model that can track the evolution of pit populations across the polishing stages, capturing rare-event manifestations that scalar surface quantifiers miss. Predictive insights from these models inform possible triaging of at-risk parts and more informed process planning decisions. Taken together, these contributions illustrate how integrating inspection efficiency, process understanding, and predictive decision support can advance manufacturing quality control in settings where rare anomalies and high-consequence requirements demand more than conventional approaches. From teaching AI and “agentic systems” at ASU to debating hallucinating chatbots and whether aliens are already here, will.i.am challenges Bill's fears about technology while admitting the next decade could get chaotic if humans don't become more humane. The two also get into cancel culture, why the Black Eyed Peas pulled “Let's Get Retarded” from streaming platforms, China vs. America, and generational anxiety. Will also opens up about the panic attack that changed his life after smoking weed in 1993 and why education, not outrage, is the real solution to inequality. Rick is also a best-selling author, his latest book is “Running Against the Devil” and his #1 New York Times, best-seller, “Everything Trump Touches Dies” which quintessentially defined the Trump and Michael and Rick dig deep into Clarence Thomas, Fox News, and all of Trump's pending cases and DeSantis.
Bill Maher sits down with Senator John Fetterman for a brutally candid conversation with no loyalty tests and no easy answers. From Trump, media outrage cycles, and Democratic Party infighting to Israel, Iran, immigration, cancel culture, and the death of political nuance, Maher and Fetterman dive headfirst into the forces pulling America apart — and why so many voters feel politically homeless right now. Fetterman opens up about surviving his stroke, the backlash he's taken from both the left and the right, and why he refuses to perform partisan outrage just to earn applause. He talks about how his support for Israel after October 7 fractured relationships within his own party, why Democrats continue losing working-class voters, and what many on the left still fail to understand about Trump's appeal. Bill Maher SOUNDS OFF on Political Violence While Andy Hooser Exposes UFO Cover-Ups, Government Secrets & 2A Threats DESCRIPTION: Mark Walters and Andy Hooser dive deep into one of the wildest conversations in America today: UFO/UAP disclosure, government secrecy, political violence, gun rights, and the radical shift inside the Democrat Party. The explosive discussion covers newly released Trump administration UFO files, shocking testimony from military pilots and astronauts, government transparency, Area 51, Bob Lazar, Anna Paulina Luna, Tim Burchette, and growing public distrust in federal institutions. The conversation then pivots to Bill Maher's viral Real Time monologue blasting the political left for abandoning gun control messaging while glorifying political violence and alleged assassins. Walters and Hooser break down Maher's comments on Luigi Mangione, Thomas Crooks, Charlie Kirk concerns, and why younger Americans increasingly support political extremism. Topics include: Bill Maher vs the radical left UFO/UAP disclosure and government cover-ups Trump administration document releases Bob Lazar and Area 51 Anna Paulina Luna and congressional hearings Political violence in America Democrat hypocrisy on gun control Second Amendment rights and self-defense Government mistrust after COVID Media narratives and deep state concerns RFK Jr., transparency, and public accountability Big government, censorship, and constitutional freedoms This episode connects the dots between government secrecy, cultural division, political extremism, and why millions of Americans no longer trust institutions telling them what to believe. In her darkest hour, she found the work of Dr. Sarno, and then me. I am humbled by the privilege to help people awaken to their full potential, and at the tender age of 26, Raye is doing just that. Although she has come so far, fear is still her greatest adversary (we can all relate!) and we discuss this as well as deep inner child work which is life changing in the most profound way. Dave Rubin of "The Rubin Report" talks about Gavin Newsom's disastrous interview on "Real Time with Bill Maher" where Bill Maher pointed out all the failings of California including the high cost of living and high gas prices to his face; "60 Minutes" and Bill Maher exposing Gavin Newsom's massive failure and the wasting of billions of taxpayer dollars in trying to complete California's dream of building a high speed rail train; Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg having one of their most celebrated policy achievements, the blocking of the merger between JetBlue Airlines and Spirit Airlines, blow up in their faces after Spirit Airlines went bankrupt and shut down its operations effectively destroying 17,000 jobs and throwing thousands of customers into chaos; the "Real Time with Bill Maher" audience being shocked as Bill Maher insulted some of them directly for wishing that Donald Trump had died during Cole Allen's failed assassination attempt during the White House Correspondents Dinner; New York Times' Lulu Garcia-Navarro catching Tucker Carlson in a lie about implying that Donald Trump might be the antichrist; a Texas judge allowing a Muslim development to proceed after Texas governor Greg Abbott had told Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle" the real reason behind his shutting down of Epic City, the planned Muslim community in East Plano Texas led by Yasir Qadhi; and much more.
