It was a huge weekend in Wellington with Cuba Dupa, three nights of Graham Norton, Sir Bob Geldof, the Hurricanes, the Phoenix and one of the world's largest cruise ships in. So what does a weekend like that do for the city's economy? Also, work on the controversial Golden Mile project begins this month, starting at the Cambridge/Kent terrace end of Courtenay Place. But we've also learnt work on the rest of the project won't begin until next year. Is this about to become the key issue of this year's local body elections? To answer those questions, Restaurant Association president and Monsoon Poon owner Mike Egan and Method Recycling co-founder India Korner joined Nick Mills for the Wellington Mornings Business Panel. The incredible work of a nurse that inspired a hit charity song and global humanitarian effort to feed starving people in Africa is remembered in our latest podcast episode. On the 40th anniversary of the formation of charity superstar group Band Aid, Nursing Standard talks to the nurse who helped prompt the cultural phenomenon led by musician Sir Bob Geldof.Dr Dame Claire Bertschinger was working for the Red Cross in Ethiopia in 1984 when she was featured in a BBC news broadcast about the devastating drought.Journalist Michael Buerk described the biblical famine he was witnessing as the ‘closest thing to hell on earth'.Thousands of people had already died and seven million were threatened with starvation in the war-torn country.Dame Claire tells journalist Erin Dean how she was running a feeding station where hundreds of women brought their starving babies each day.‘There were just thousands of people starving, hungry, wearing tatters, not even clothes, just rags,' she says. ‘There was insufficient food for everyone. It was the most horrendous thing you can imagine.'There were few resources available, and Dame Claire had to choose who would be fed and saved. One day she went out to select the 60 or 70 children they had food for that day – and found there were more than a thousand waiting outside. The BBC footage prompted musicians to launch Band Aid, and the recording of charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? It featured some of the most famous musical stars in the world at that time, including George Michael, Bono, Boy George and Sting. The song was also performed at a charity concert, Live Aid, on 13 July 1985, which raised more than £100 million for famine relief in Ethiopia.Dame Claire describes how she had little idea what was going on with the fundraising at the time – but it did have a rapid impact on the care available in Ethiopia. She reflects in the podcast on her experiences in Ethiopia and other countries, the impact it has had on her, the legacy of Band Aid, and what she has learned through her varied career. For more episodes of the Nursing Standard podcast, visit rcni.com/podcast Hosted on Acast. MSP GLOBAL, bought to you by the creators of CloudFest, is an opportunity to join the top leaders in the MSP space to gain the insights and make the connections you'll need to thrive in this constantly changing industry. Soeren talks about some of the headline speakers that will be taking to the stage including Sanna Marin, Former Prime Minister & Head of Government of Finland. It isn't every day that we get to hear about the youngest Prime Minister of Finland making her mark, especially in such a male-dominated sphere. Soeren passionately emphasised how vital such progress is for the MSP industry and how we could all benefit from hearing her insights. This young Prime Minister's journey, where 14 out of her 17 cabinet members were women, is truly inspiring. Soeren highlighted the inclusion of Philip Wisler, former Vice Chancellor of Germany, on the same day's itinerary. As someone deeply involved in the tech realm and invested in numerous cybersecurity companies, his grounded understanding of the tech landscape promises invaluable insights. Our banter took a light-hearted turn when Christian cheekily remarked about having two politicians on stage and the jazz hands that would ensue. But the day's excitement doesn't end there. We also delved into the realm of motorsport, which is the backdrop for this event, and trust me, the names dropped are bound to make any motor enthusiast's heart race. From the Former Head of Motorsport at Mercedes-Benz, Norbert Haug (who signed Lewis Hamilton!), to Martin Tomczyk, a significant figure in German motorsport, the day promises a blend of adrenaline and inspiration. And then, the crescendo – Sir Bob Geldof. For those of us who remember Live Aid, Geldof's influence on the music industry is undeniable. It's exciting to anticipate what pearls of wisdom and tales of his journey he might share with us. As we drew towards the end of our chat, Soeren introduced a topic that resonates deeply with everyone in the MSP Global community: the whistleblower of the Wirecard scandal. The cascading effects of this scandal touched numerous lives, either directly or indirectly. With the recent introduction of the new EU whistleblower law, MSPs have a role in educating their customers, making this discussion crucially relevant. Christian summed it up perfectly. The Wirecard scandal might have been a blemish, but it's an opportunity for learning and growth. And yes, for MSPs, it's also a chance to bridge the gap between requirements and solutions, ensuring compliance with the new regulations around whistleblowing. Now, onto the cherry on top! We're hosting a special prize draw for all our listeners. You have until COB Friday 6th October to enter this draw. We've got some spectacular treats in store, from VIP tickets worth €999 each to exhilarating rides with professional racing car drivers valued at €499 each. Frustrated with religious turmoil, fanaticism and fundamentalism, filmmaker Peter Rodger set out on a global quest to understand why the concept of God has become politicized. In his stunningly, beautiful documentary film OH MY GOD? (OMG Movie Inc.), Rabbis, Christian Fundamentalists, Catholic Priests, Buddhist Llamas, Hindu Swamis, Zen Masters, Muslim radicals, Shamans and ordinary people across the globe share their unique perspectives and understanding of God, along with several celebrities including Hugh Jackman, Seal, Ringo Starr, Sir Bob Geldof, HRH Princess Michael of Kent, David Copperfield, Dr. John F. Demartini and Jack Thompson. The film debuts nationally this November. Premiering at the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles on November 13th . OH MY GOD? is set amongst beautiful backdrops around the world, filmed in 23 countries over three years from the 9th ward of New Orleans to the Guatemalan Jungle, to the Himalayan region of Ladahk, Rodger searches for the common thread in our diverse humanity and reveals that which often divides us can also unite us. The film features inviting faces and personalities that are a touching reminder of the melting pot that we call humanity and the mystery that we have given many names. OH MY GOD? is set amongst beautiful backdrops around the world, filmed in 23 countries over three years from the 9th ward of New Orleans to the Guatemalan Jungle, to the Himalayan region of Ladahk, Rodger searches for the common thread in our diverse humanity and reveals that which often divides us can also unite us. The film features inviting faces and personalities that are a touching reminder of the melting pot that we call humanity and the mystery that we have given many names. Controversial, hopeful, heartwarming and sometimes shocking Rodger's film reveals the diverse beliefs with which we were raised, and subscribe to solely because we are told to. He questions why we often blindly "believe" without direct experience or personal introspection. "I was fed up with the childish schoolyard mentality that permeates this world - I call it the "My God Is Greater Than Your God" syndrome - where you have grown men flying airplanes into buildings shouting "God is Great" - where you have the leader of the free world telling the BBC in 2003 that he invaded Iraq because God told him to -- None of these concepts made any sense to me," states Rodger, "So I decided to go around the world and ask people what they think." Rodger produced, directed, wrote and shot the film with an incognito skeleton crew consisting of one other - Patrick Ellis, a line producer tripling as sound man and B camera operator. Alexander van Bubenheim, a composer, also traveled on part of the shoot collecting sounds and incorporating them into music that binds the film together, and surprises us at the same time resulting in an extraordinary, original soundtrack. One of the most poignant moments in the film is when Rabbi Menachem Froman (an Orthodox Jew) and Ibrahim Abu El-Hawa (a Muslim community leader and peace advocate) embrace. The two men are active in an organization that encourages dialogue among Jews, Christians and Muslims. "God is in the space between us," poignantly shares Rabbi Froman. "My visit to the holy land surprised me the most," shares Rodger "There is a desire for peace from both the Palestinians and the Israelis. It is the politicians that are messing the situation up. It is not a conflict of religion - it is a conflict of Land, Politics and EMOTION." Rodger's main goal is for viewers to come away with a feeling of having an amazing journey; an adventure seeing places they would never normally see; hearing music that inspires and words that educate. "If only we could open our hearts for tolerance and peace which is what every single religion preaches, then we might have a chance. If I can touch one heart with this film than I have succeeded." OH MY GOD? debuted at the Jerusalem Film Festival last month and has recently been accepted to several film festivals including Warsaw International Film Festival, Tel Aviv Spirit Awards, The Mill Valley Film Festival, Cine-World Film Festival, Sarasota, Sun Valley Spiritual Film Festival and the UK Jewish Film Festival. - www.omgmovie.com******************************************************************To listen to all our XZBN shows, with our compliments go to: https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv*** AND NOW ***The ‘X' Zone TV Channel on SimulTV - www.simultv.comThe ‘X' Chronicles Newspaper - www.xchroniclesnewspaper.com ******************************************************************

We give the week a spirited shakedown to see what falls out of its pockets. And this includes … The late Ronnie Hawkins – road hog, stunt diver, bootleg liquor smuggler! Who's the only original rock and roller now still alive? If you went to see Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp lumbered on to “jam”, how monumentally hacked off would you be? Kiss have handed in their lunchpails and eyebrow pencils. Shouldn't more hoary old rock acts “retire out of self-respect”? What Danny Boyle's Pistol mini-series explains about the band's urge to succeed – and its corniest moments revisited. Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Lady Gaga ... any other musicians who cut it on-screen? We give the week a spirited shakedown to see what falls out of its pockets. And this includes … The late Ronnie Hawkins – road hog, stunt diver, bootleg liquor smuggler! Who's the only original rock and roller now still alive? If you went to see Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp lumbered on to “jam”, how monumentally hacked off would you be? What comes to your mind when you hear the words “Doug and the Slugs”? If you live in Canada and grew up in the 1970s and 1980s, you probably think of one of the hottest party bands of the era fronted by the unlikeliest of rockstars: the late, great Doug Bennett. And you probably smile, because songs like “Too Bad” and “Real Enough” and “Making It Work” and “Day By Day” and their accompanying music videos were fun, and because Slugmania was real. You can revisit the songs and the men who made them in Doug and the Slugs and Me, a fascinating and fun documentary by Vancouver filmmaker Teresa Alfeld about the man that publicist-turned-MuchMusic VJ Denise Donlon describes in the film as “more a carnie than a sex symbol.” The film follows the rise of the Vancouver band and its frontman through archival footage, interviews with band members, Doug's family, and icons like Ed the Sock, Bif Naked, Ron Sexsmith, and Sir Bob Geldof. We also hear from Doug himself through the journals he left behind. Doug and the Slugs and Me is a film about the Slugs, about music, making music, legacy, friendship, ego, dreams, grief, and the documentarian's starting point, namely: “What happened to this man we thought we knew?”Documentarian Teresa Alfeld – who grew up next to the Bennett family and was best friends with one of Doug's daughters – visits the YVR Screen Scene Podcast to talk about Doug and the Slugs and her remarkable film, which screens at the 2022 DOXA Documentary Film Festival. Can you tell us a bit about your single dad book and why those images are so important? What advice do you have for people wishing to go into photography? Why do we need to capture more photos? How have you been able to express yourself during the pandemic Where can people find you on social media Follow him on Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/harryborden/ Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/happy_singlemompodcast/ Support this podcast

If I can touch one heart with this film than I have succeeded." Frustrated with religious turmoil, fanaticism and fundamentalism, filmmaker Peter Rodger set out on a global quest to understand why the concept of God has become politicized. Controversial, hopeful, heartwarming and sometimes shocking Rodger's film reveals the diverse beliefs with which we were raised, and subscribe to solely because we are told to. He questions why we often blindly "believe" without direct experience or personal introspection. If the way we give to those in need reflects on our values and virtue as a society, what do we see today?Charitable giving has grown in response to the huge areas of need that the Covid crisis has exposed and intensified, in the form of mutual aid groups, donations, and volunteering. How has this changed our communities, our public values, and the ways we help one another?Writer and development expert Paul Vallely is joined by philanthropic activist Sir Bob Geldof and charity director Fran Perrin to explore the big questions for philanthropy today: what does charity mean in an age of increasing inequality? How should charities and the state interact? How can philanthropic giving connect us to one another, and redistribute not just money, but power? The expert panel reflects on the changing state of philanthropy through the ages, from Aristotle to Live Aid to Bill Gates, and asks the role that charity can play in a society built on justice and altruism.#RSAphilanthropyThis conversation was broadcast online on the 13th May 2021 . In another GHQ magazine exclusive, famed Boomtown Rats front man Bob Geldof is interviewed by Alan McGee (no introduction needed here!) discussing everything from punk, glam-rock and music (and its failings). Music has always been the epicenter of Geldof's life, and it was also discussed during the interview how Alan felt Sir Bob could've found a life as a writer. Other subjects discussed are relevant bands, social media and how easy it is to be famous with little or no effort. Is there a perfect time for (another) social revolution? Instead, let's discuss the conversations between himself and Prince Charles. It's well known that Bob Geldof was frontman for the late '70s to mid '80s Irish punk rock band the Boomtown Rats. He also conceived and co-wrote Band Aid's tune “Do They Know It's Christmas?” with his friend, musician Midge Ure of Ultravox, which became the 1984 Christmas number one in the UK and the best-selling British pop single until that time. Wikipedia reported that Geldof was granted an honorary knighthood (KBE) by Elizabeth II in 1986 for his charity work in Africa; although it is an honorary award as Geldof is an Irish citizen he is often referred to as ‘Sir Bob'. He is a recipient of the Man of Peace title which recognises individuals who have made “an outstanding contribution to international social justice and peace”, among numerous other awards

This week on The Richard Crouse Show Podcast: Two of Richard’s favourite interviews from the most recent season of “Pop Life.” Singer-songwriter, author, political activist and occasional actor Bob Geldof stops by the Pop Life bar. He became famous as the lead singer of the Irish rock band the Boomtown Rats in the late 1970s and became a legend when he and Midge Ure founded the charity supergroup Band Aid to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia and went on to organise the charity super-concert Live Aid… He is an accomplished solo artist whose charitable work continues to this day. They were supposed to talk about the Boomtown Rats, “Citizens of Boomtown,” their first album in 36 years and a lead single, “Trash Glam Baby,” but, as you’re about to find out, that was just a starting point for a much wider conversation. Then Richard welcomes an actor who plays a doctor on one of the most popular shows on television. You’ve seen Christina Chang in films like 28 Days and Random Hearts, and on television on 24, CSI: Miami, Boston Legal, Suits, and Desperate Housewives but she is best known as Dr. Audrey Lim on The Good Doctor. We talk about a little bit of everything, including what it was like to move to the United States from Taiwan when she was a teenager and the kind of research she does about medical procedures to convincingly play a doctor on TV.
Aasmah Mir and Richard Coles are joined on the line by Sir Bob Geldof, of The Boomtown Rats, who left Dun Laoghaire for London, became known for punchy hits and outspoken interviews, then creating Band Aid and Live Aid. We also have Kelda Wood, who, in her mid twenties suffered a life changing injury and she has just become the first para athlete to row solo across the Atlantic. Derrick Osaze is ‘the punching preacher’ – last year he became Ultimate Boxxer III middleweight champion and was ordained as a minister. He joins us. Mary Wood, on her experience as a police officer of looking after a foundling for 24 hours, 25 years ago. And the inheritance tracks of Martina Cole who chooses Galway Bay, performed by Ruby Murray and Word on a Wing by David Bowie And your thank yous. Producer: Corinna Jones Editor: Eleanor Garland

From sniper (almost!) to international celebrity makeup artist... meet Nigel Stanislaus.Nigel is a makeup artist extraordinaire. He was the Makeup Director for Maybelline New York Australia for over a decade, travelling the world, leading the makeup at local and international Fashion Weeks and working with celebrity clients including Gigi and Bella Hadid, Cindy Crawford, Kendall Jenner, Jess Hart, Ruby ROse, Olivia Newton-John, Melissa George, Sir Bob Geldof and Michael Buble. His work has been published in Elle and L'Officiel, and he's appeared as a judge on Australia’s Next Top Model and Asia’s Next Top Model. But in his early days, he was told he’d never make it as a makeup artist. He’s certainly proved otherwise. As he embarks on his next chapter after finishing with Maybelline earlier this year, we talked about growing up in Singapore, how he almost became a sniper (yes, really!), how he got his break to become Mr Maybelline, all about the jetsetting life (and the reality of it), learning to not let his career define him, his triumphant 'I showed you!' moment, why he thinks we’re in the golden age of makeup, his thoughts on ridiculous beauty trend and Instagram makeup, dealing with trolls, the importance of your self-worth and a lot more. Nigel is so candid and funny and an all-round-beautiful human being - and yes, my first male guest on Beauty Island!A quick note on this episode - we live quite far apart so met in the middle, at a cafe in Collingwood called South of Johnston. As we were talking, the lunch rush came in so there is a bit of background ambience, for the first half of the episode. When it got too noisy, we moved from the cafe to Nigel’s car to finish the conversation. (The glamour of podcasts!) So I do apologise for the background noise for some of it, but hope you don't mind - just lean in and imagine you’re sat at the the table with us, enjoying the conversation over coffee and maybe a little sweet treat. Enjoy. What is Beauty Island? Neil MacGregor continues his retelling of human history using 100 selected objects from the British Museum. This week he explores the profound changes that humans experienced at the end of the Ice Age. By this period, humanity is reconsidering its place in the world and turning its attention to food, power, worship, and human relationships. But then, as now, one of the most important parts of human existence was finding enough food to survive. Taking a pestle from Papua New Guinea as an example, Neil asks why our ancestors decided to grow and cook new foods. The answer provides us with a telling insight into the way early humans settled on the land. Becoming farmers and eating food that was harder for other animals to digest made us a formidable force in the food chain. The impact on our environment of this shift to cookery and cultivation is still being felt. Neil is joined by Indian food writer Madhur Jaffrey, campaigner Sir Bob Geldof and archaeologist Professor Martin Jones
