In this episode, the team begins with an intriguing discussion concerning a recent discovery by anthropologists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of Hawai'i, presenting research on a previously unknown—or, rather, uncategorized— introduction to the human species, H. juluensis. The team is then joined by Southern Arkansas University archaeologist Dr. Carl Drexler to discuss the enigmatic Caddo culture. Dr. Carl G. Drexler (Station Archeologist) received his Ph.D. from the College of William and Mary in Virginia in 2013. He has been working in Arkansas since 2001 on domestic and military sites, including the battlefield of Pea Ridge. He has worked as an archeologist for the National Park Service, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and the United States Army. He has field experience in eight states and three foreign countries. Major research interests include conflict archeology, spatial analysis, historical archeology of the U.S. South and Midwest, Cuban archeology, terrestrial and aerial laser scanning (LiDAR), and the history and ethnography of sports in the United States, primarily baseball and hockey. His publications include articles in the SAA Archaeological Record and Arkansas Historical Quarterly, and a book chapter on spatial analysis in conflict archaeology, in addition to a number of reports. In recent years there has been an increasing immigration crisis on America's southern borders with undocumented or poorly documented immigrants from around the world entering and being relocated across the nation. I'm chatting with another of our summer keynote presenters today – Shaneil Yarbrough, affectionately known as “PJ” in her circles! You are going to love her. PJ has a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education with a minor in early childhood education from Southern Arkansas University. Her professional career spans over twenty years within the education field, with children at the heart of her work. She is intentional about striving for effectiveness, empathy, and equality for all children and her colleagues. She is currently a training advisor with the University of Arkansas Early Care and Education Projects (ECEP). She's a pastor's wife and women's ministry leader as well! AND she's written three books. Y'all, she is well qualified and she has such a sweet heart for the Lord. In this podcast episode, PJ and I discuss the various roles and responsibilities of early childhood educators. She shares the many hats childhood educators wear, including (but not limited to) teacher, nurse, coach, safety supervisor, creator of the environment, promoter of diversity, facilitator of learning, and enjoyer of children. Together, we emphasize the importance of valuing childhood and nurturing the development of young children's brains, relationships, and spirituality. We also hone in on the value of finding balance and relying on God's help in wearing each hat. One of the biggest takeaways from this conversation for me is that it's so important for us to really LOVE being with children – to laugh at their silly antics, to marvel at their unique perspective as they discover their world, to join in on the pretend adventures! Which hat is the most difficult for you to balance? For me, it's probably either the Creator of Environments or the Promoter of Diversity. I can definitely have a good attitude most days, but it's harder for me to create an inviting physical environment that is organized but still fun. And, if I'm really honest, promoting diversity – really learning about the culture and traditions of others requires more intentionality than I wish it did. It's pretty easy for me to be comfortable with myself. It's harder to step outside of that comfort zone and be intentional about celebrating differences and incorporating new traditions. What about you? Which of these hats is almost always on – it just comes naturally to you? And which one do you have to really be intentional about putting on? We'd love to hear about it. Send us an email at hello@earlychildhoodchristiannetwork.com or connect with us on social media! We'd love to hear from you. You can find PJ on her website at https://www.shaneilpjyarbrough.com/ As always, we would love to connect with you on Instagram and on Facebook

While we didn't actually get a chance to meet at the Prairie Baseball Academy annual banquet earlier this year, it was hard not to notice Carter Claerhout. The 6-foot, 235-pound Red Deer product isn't just a physical presence, but seems to almost always be smiling. And if he knew at the time just how good he'd be this spring, that smile would probably be even bigger. After flirting with .600 for the better part of the first half, the first baseman has settled in at .483 with three homers and 19 RBI in 20 games to lead the entire Canadian College Baseball Conference in each category. It's a fantastic follow-up to his 2022 season, where he hit .356 with seven dingers and 45 RBI in 32 games. But PBA fell short of winning the league last year, and that's ultimately what is fueling the Southern Arkansas University commit, who joined us for a great chat a couple of weeks ago. A special thanks as well to Cindy Adachi for sharing her photos of Carter for our podcast use.

We discussed his childhood in Port Arthur, Texas, his journey with the NFL, and how he got to where he is today with his business, Pivot to Win. BIO: Jordan Babineaux transitioned from nearly a decade playing in the NFL to become a sports broadcaster, entrepreneur, adjunct professor, and international bestselling author of Pivot to Win: Make the Big Plays in Life, Sports & Business. DOWN AND DIRTY DOWN SOUTH: POLITICS AND THE ART OF REVENGE by Roger Glasgow Returning from a vacation trip to Mexico, Little Rock attorney Roger Glasgow and his wife got the surprise of their lives when they were stopped at the border crossing. Guards ordered them out of their car and began to remove the back seat. What followed was a long nightmare of political intrigue and subterfuge that led all the way back to Arkansas and its capital city. While pursuing a race for prosecuting attorney in the 1970s, Glasgow had run afoul of the local political machine. The machine later decided to teach Glasgow a lesson even though he’d lost the race. Down and Dirty Down South is Glasgow’s story of how he attempted to clear his name and also track down the people who had him setup for charges of smuggling illegal drugs into the United States. Glasgow’s book is a microcosm of what it means to challenge the tyranny sometimes found in local politics, with its secret deals and insider power. Roger Glasgow was raised on a small farm near Nashville, Arkansas. He received his bachelor of science degree in history and political science in 1965 from what is now Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, and his juris doctor from the university of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville in 1969. He entered private practice in Nashville for a few years and also served as deputy prosecutor. Glasgow was elected as a delegate to the Arkansas Constitutional Convention of 1969. He then moved to Little Rock, where he was a deputy attorney general before he ran for Prosecuting attorney, finishing second in a field of four. He reentered private law practice with the Little Rock firm of Wright, Lindsey & Jennings, where he enjoyed a successful 50-year career as a trial lawyer. Upon retirement, he turned to writing. Down and Dirty Down South: Politics and the Art of Revenge was his first book, a memoir published in 2016. It received an “Arkansas Gem” award from the Arkansas Library Association. His second book, Broadsword, a Novel of Love Amidst the Chaos, published in January 2020 was his debut novel. https://www.amazon.com/Down-Dirty-South-Robert-Glasgow/dp/1952182271/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=9781952182273&qid=1612835743&sr=8-1&fbclid=IwAR2Xaxx3hH5DVitcKA3BuFd2PzRHj5lU1XtIZvBm8VjNR-ehUl9OsDqHZs8 http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/robglasgowamg.mp3
