In another apocalyptic chat, Mark starts off by acknowledging the children he's had the chance to share his books with (below) and how they have re-instilled his sense of awe and wonder. Children are fearless and haven't learned or been conditioned to be guarded about their awe and wonder. Regarding his children's books, he speaks to the creation of something given to the world and the responsibility that comes with it. Mark's comments about what it was like to restore his awe and wonder are priceless and best heard than read. He goes on to say that he's been aware of that 'inner knowing' though he never felt he would ever be able to exercise it again. Do we surrender the sense of awe and wonder or is it taken away from us? What do you think? What is your passion? Mark's sense of his greatest desire was to write, though he didn't feel free enough to do so. How do you feel about your passion play, or deepest desires and how you've been reluctant to proceed? Have you lost your parents or a loved one? How did that affect you? Mark speaks about his concern about his father's transition, how he would handle it and how he did. How is your relationship with friends? Would they know you well enough to reach out to help when you need it? Mark shares about a friend that saw his depression and set him up with a therapist that he resisted at first, then weeks in he realized he was making a transition. Having someone to talk with is often what's necessary to make the personal transformation. Zen offers that it isn't so much what the therapist says, beyond the questions asked, it's hearing yourself take the conversation out of your head and being able to listen to the words coming out of your mouth that allows a different level of processing that makes a huge difference. What kind of shields do you put up to protect yourself from life experience We talk about real-life and Mark's experience in the ad agency he worked for, and was preparing to leave. He speaks about the transition from his implosion to and explosion of confidence and perseverance toward breaking out on his own. He shares a story about an experience in meeting a person in line at a coffee shop that spoke to him about her own explosion as a cancer survivor. You'll enjoy the spark from his connection that is evidence of awe and wonder restored. Have you ever had the opportunity to participate in a collaborative exercise, like a writing class? How did you feel about participating? Were you afraid of being judged? What if you had an opportunity and knew there was nothing you could do wrong? How would that change your personal view of yourself? Mark describes an opportunity he created for others through a BizCatalyst360 Salon. (see below) More insights, sharing and reflecting on similar situations continue throughout the balance of this conversation that you just have to listen to for the full effect. Darüber hinaus lernen Auszubildende in vielen Fällen anhand von konkreten, praktischen Projekten und bekommen früh Verantwortung übertragen. What do you think about the following statements? Small businesses are overwhelmingly responsible for job creation, innovation and American prosperity. Small businesses are more productive than big companies. And small business owners are the core of democracy in America. Yet Washington, controlled by big business and engaged in “crony capitalism,” systemically discriminates against small business. We all know this is true, right? Well, no, these things are not true. Or at least, mostly not true. Joining me to explain why is Robert Atkinson, author of “Big is Beautiful: Debunking the Myth of Small Business” and Ron Nicol who led Boston Consulting Group's Americas Practice and was global leader of its Media, Technology and Communications Group. Coastal management is people management and, as Jeanne explains, it is critical to incorporate strong community engagement and collaboration themes into the process of climate change response if we are to succeed. Jeanne leads applied research projects related to environmental sustainability and policy, health equity, and climate change. She works closely with state and local decision-makers, communities, and non-governmental organizations to implement evidence-based best practices. Jeanne co-facilitates several academically hosted multidisciplinary initiatives that are designed to integrate science and evidence-informed best practices into planning, policy and decision-making: the award-winning New Jersey Climate Change Alliance, the Sustainable Raritan River Initiative, the Planning Healthy Communities Initiative, and the Coastal Risk and Resilience Initiative. Jeanne is in the first national cohort of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Leaders Program and is in the second year of the Rutgers Leadership Academy. Prior to joining Rutgers, she spent more than two decades advancing environmental policy at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection where, most recently, she served as the Assistant Commissioner for Policy, Planning and Science through which she oversaw programs related to climate change, coastal management, environmental health, environmental justice and sustainable development. Earlier in her career, Jeanne was the Manager of Public Policy at the Boston-based “think do” tank, Tellus Institute, where she focused on state and federal level environmental policy innovations. Jeanne is the proud graduate of Rutgers University Cook College, received a master’s degree in Science and Environmental journalism from the New York University, and is a New Jersey native and mother of two brilliant young women.
