This week, we light a candle for lost legends and torch a few bad takes. In Follow Up, Molly White reminds us that giving a damn still matters—despite the rising tide of apathy (and flaming robotaxis in downtown L.A.). Protesters across the country chant “No Kings!” while Elon does his best impression of a bootlicker groveling back to Trump. Meanwhile, we take a moment to reflect on 2025's greatest hits: riots, rollbacks, and rampant idiocy. In the news, Uber decides buses are cool again—but shittier and more expensive. The UK jumps into the robotaxi game while Tesla, shockingly, misses another launch date. French Tesla fans are suing over the brand's fashy vibes, Google is ghosting employees via buyout, and Meta's trying to buy its way to artificial godhood. Oh, and Trump's launching an AI chatbot. What could go wrong? Elsewhere, China turns off AI so kids can cheat the old-fashioned way, Disney and Universal are gunning for Midjourney, and Shopify goes stablecoin with Coinbase and Stripe.Media Candy's popping off: Foundation returns, Strange New Worlds prepares for its final warp, and Spaceballs is back—with the original cast! Meanwhile, we review Mythfits, Princess of Power, and the slow striptease that is David Zaslav's credibility. On the gadget front: forget your canned air—go full vacuum-blower-keyboard-cleaner madness. And in The Dark Side with Dave, stormtroopers vlog, AI kills joy, and we race the beam in retro game land. Finally, we say goodbye to a few greats—Sly Stone, Brian Wilson, Ananda Lewis, Douglas McCarthy, and Apple legend Bill Atkinson. A CLASSIC ROCKER FINDS OUT HE HAS A LOVE CHILD FROM THE 80's, some insane Movies announced and A wild list of celebrities and how they caught their significant others cheating… it's like celebs are just like us guys!CRAP ON FRIDAY Rick Moranis has been gone way too long. Even those new "Ghostbusters" movies didn't lure him back to Hollywood. But I am quite excited to announce that he WILL return to once again play Dark Helmet in "Spaceballs 2"!!! Bill Pullman will return as the hero Lone Starr, too. And Mel Brooks will be back as Yogurt . . . and, presumably . . . President Skroob. (He played both characters in the original.) Josh Gad co-wrote the script, and he's expected to be in it, too. Pullman's son Lewis Pullman has also been cast, along with Keke Palmer . . . but there's no word who they're playing. There's also no word on any other returning cast members. Obviously, John Candy, Joan Rivers, and Dick Van Patten won't be back, since they're no longer with us. Mel released the first teaser yesterday. There's no footage, since filming hasn't begun yet. It starts with a text crawl that makes fun of all the "Star Wars" prequels, sequels, sequels to the prequels, prequels to the sequels, and TV spin-offs. Then it lists all the "Dune", "Jurassic Park", "Avatar", and Marvel movies, plus DC's TWO attempts to start a cinematic universe . . . and just about every other overdone franchise you can name. Then, after a quick appearance from Mel, we get a shot of Rick Moranis' cracked helmet, and the tagline: "The Schwartz Awakens in 2027." Which sounds like a possible title but it's spaceballs and mel brooks so it could be anything. Here is Mel making his announcement. Jerry Seinfeld Proposes ‘Live-Action Sequel' to 'Bee Movie'Jerry Seinfeld has people buzzin' with this idea! The comedic genius posted about the possibility of a “live-action sequel” to his 2007 animated hit Bee Movie.“Bee Movie, which came out nearly 20 years ago, is #4 on Netflix,” he wrote on Instagram showing a hand holding a tennis ball with a honey bee on it. The next slide was the movie's poster, an image of Seinfeld's character Barry B. Benson similarly straddling a tennis ball.“Today, my friend Spike Feresten, one of the writers on the film, was playing tennis and this happened."He continued, “Clearly a sign. Time for a live-action sequel..?" DreamWorks' Bee Movie, which Seinfeld produced, co-wrote, and starred in along with Renée Zellweger, has become a cult favorite since its release.Bee Movie also featured the voices of Matthew Broderick, John Goodman, Chris Rock, Kathy Bates, Megan Mullally, Oprah Winfrey, and several celebrities appearing as animated versions of themselves, including Larry King, Ray Liotta, and Sting.Saint Louis' own Nelly and Ashanti are putting their lives on TV for all to see. They announced an upcoming reality show called Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together.A show synopsis says Nelly and Ashanti "rekindle their love, navigate the ups and downs of being newlyweds and new parents, and juggle their careers."The eight-episode series will air on Peacock starting June 26th.A DNA Test Connects Billy Idol To A Son He Didn't Know He HadDetails on the lovechild Billy Idol didn't know he had until a few years ago have surfaced.Idol's daughter, Bonnie, shared in the new doc, 'Billy Idol Should Be Dead', "My husband just surprised me with a DNA test as a Christmas present [a few years ago]. Then a few weeks later, I get the results back on the app and open it and I'm like, who is this? This Brant. His info reads, 'New York, 1985, looking for my biological dad.' I was like, ‘What?'"Brant, Idol's lovechild, grew up believing his dad was someone else until a different DNA questioned his mother's claims about his father. After confronting his mom, she told Brant, "Well, it's pretty crazy, but back in the day, we broke up and I actually spent a weekend with Billy Idol."Fans have done the math and calculate that Brant was conceived during Idol's wildly successful 1984 'Rebel Yell' tour.Idol has whole-heartedly accepted Brant as family, saying, "I really enjoyed being a dad. I always wanted a boy and a girl, and I finagled my way into a boy and a girl. I actually had a son that I didn't realize, who I fathered on the Rebel Yell tour without knowing it. So I somehow finagled this as well."Brant was at Idol's Walk of Fame ceremony back in 2023.Prime Video Will Soon Show Double The AdsAmazon Prime Video is about to double the number of commercials shown per hour on its ad-supported membership level. An Adweek report got the news from an Amazon spokesperson about the amount of commercials going to "four to six minutes per hour" from the two to three minutes that Prime users are used to. In 2024, subscribers who had ad-free access were forced to pay an extra $3 a month to maintain the status. Jay-Z Loses $1 Million NBA Finals Bet Jay-Z is out $1 million after losing a bet on the NBA Finals. Jay placed a bet prior to the series, banking on the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the championship in five games. After Wednesday night's Thunder loss to the Indiana Pacers, OKC can't win the series unless they do it in six or seven games. Jay-Z would have won $3.5 million if the bet had cashed in. With a net worth of $2.5 billion, we're sure Jay-Z will be alright. Ok you guys remember Spinal Tap? The Album cover debate with the label and why it became an all black cover or as Nigel would say NONE MORE BLACK? It was because the original had a woman on all fours with a dog leash on and it was deemed sexist…. To which Nigel replies “Whats wrong with being sexy? Well get this, Sabrina Carpenter announced her new album yesterday, and it's causing a lot of controversy. It's called "Man's Best Friend", and the cover has Sabrina on all fours, in front of a man who's pulling a handful of her hair. A women's advocacy group in Scotland called it "regressive", saying it reduces women to, quote, "pets, props, and possessions," and promotes "an element of violence and control." Sabrina's fans are defending it as SATIRE, and a commentary on how badly women are treated. And some are pointing out that the first single, "Manchild", actually makes FUN of men. HERE IS A CLIP OF THATMeanwhile, in the new "Rolling Stone" cover story, Sabrina talks about being criticized for the sexual imagery in her stage show. She says, quote "It's always so funny to me when people complain. They're like, 'All she does is sing about this.' But those are the songs that you've made popular. Clearly you love sex. You're obsessed with it." She adds, quote, "I truly feel like I've never lived in a time where women have been picked apart more, and scrutinized in every capacity. I'm not just talking about me. I'm talking about every female artist that is making art right now." Pope Leo isn't even the most famous guy in his family. The "New York Times" researched his family tree, and found out that he's related to a bunch of celebrities. The link is an ancestor from about six generations back. He name was Louis Boucher de Grandpre, and he was born in Quebec. And because of him, Leo is distant cousins with Justin Bieber, Justin Trudeau, Angelina Jolie, Hillary Clinton, Jack Kerouac, and Madonna. It's interesting that Leo would be related to Madonna, given that the Catholic Church has condemned her several times . . . most famously when she released her "Like a Prayer" video in 1989. A few years ago, Madonna reached out to Pope Francis, asking to meet with him to discuss "important matters." She told him, quote, "I've been ex-communicated 3 times. It doesn't seem fair." If you've ever wondered how the creators of "Friends" came up with the character of Joey Tribbiani . . . we might just have the answer this morning. Joey Lawrence claims Matt LeBlanc's character was based on HIS character Joey Russo from "Blossom". Lawrence says, quote, "Joey Russo was so successful that when they were creating 'Friends', they wanted a 25-year-old version of that." Supposedly, Matt's character wasn't even originally called Joey, but they changed it because the "Blossom" character was so successful. Joey even claims that Matt was sent to tapings of "Blossom" where he would, quote, "sit up in the audience with a yellow notepad and take notes on how I portrayed Joey Russo." He says they wanted Matt to bring the "innocence" of Joey Russo to Joey Tribbiani, so the character could, quote, "get away with his womanizing." I guess the Grammys were sick of hearing about whether Beyoncé deserved to win Best Country Album for "Cowboy Carter". So, they just announced a major change. For next year's Grammys, the award formally known as Best Country Album will now be called Best Contemporary Country Album . . . and they will also be adding a new category: Best Traditional Country Album. There's a lot to unpack here. And one year after Beyoncé wins makes the timing of this all the more clickbait-y. According to the Grammy website, "traditional country music", quote, "adheres to the more traditional sound structures of the country genre, including rhythm and singing style, lyrical content, as well as traditional country instrumentation such as acoustic guitar, steel guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, piano, and live drums." Where "contemporary country music", quote, "remains reminiscent and relevant to the legacy of country music's culture, while also engaging in more contemporary music forms." Someone tweeted, "Morgan Wallen and Post Malone better not be in the traditional country category at the Grammys, because in what world are they traditional country?" Wait, hold up. When Morgan collaborated with Alvin and the Chipmunks, that wasn't traditional country??New in Theaters: "How to Train Your Dragon", "Materialists", and "The Life of Chuck" There's nothing like a good breakup story. Here are seven times a celebrity found out their partner was cheating in an unconventional way: 1. Demi Moore learned that Ashton Kutcher was having an affair in 2011, from a Google Alert. When she called him on it, he admitted it right away. Her response was, quote, "Are you [effing] kidding me?" 2. Britney Spears started dating lawyer David Lucado in 2012. But in 2014, her father found out there was paparazzi footage of David kissing another woman. He bought it to prevent it from being released, and Britney broke it off. 3. Kourtney Kardashian dumped Scott Disick in 2008, after finding texts on his phone from a contact called, quote, "my wife." They did the on-and-off thing until 2015, when photos emerged of Scott with another woman in France. 4. Elizabeth Hurley found out Hugh Grant was cheating on her in 1995, when he got arrested for GETTING IT ON with Sunset Boulevard prostitute Divine Brown in his car. They didn't break up until 2000, and they're still friends. 5. Laura Dern found out Billy Bob Thornton was being unfaithful when the news broke that he had ELOPED with Angelina Jolie in 2000. She was away making a movie, and she never saw it coming. 6. Eva Longoria's marriage to NBA star Tony Parker ended in 2010, after she found inappropriate texts with another woman on his phone. 7. This one's ancient history, but it was a HUGE tabloid story back in the day: In 1958, actress Debbie Reynolds was missing her husband, Eddie Fisher, because he was supposedly away on tour. So she decided to give her friend Elizabeth Taylor a call . . . and who answered Liz's phone? Eddie FREAKIN' Fisher. (!!!) Eddie left Debbie and married Liz, but that only lasted five years.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Shortly after graduating high school, Ed Gale — who stood 3'4” tall — left Michigan with $40 in his pocket and went to Hollywood. Gale said his goal was never to become a leading man, but to make a living as a working actor… and that he did, appearing in more than 200 television shows, commercials, and films. Upon arriving in Hollywood the first role he was offered was none other than Howard the Duck — a role he was originally told he was “too tall for.” Gale continued to work up until his passing in May of 2025.On this episode I'm recommending four films that Gale appeared in. In many of his acting roles (including most of these) Gale appeared wearing masks and costumes, but as Rollo from Under the Rainbow once said, “no dream is too big, and no dreamer too small.”Child's Play 2 (1990)Two years after the original hit theaters, Chucky returned to once again torment Andy Barclay. While the original Child's Play was straight horror, this is the film in which Chucky began to develop the personality we know and love today. Keep an eye out for scenes in which Chucky runs around; that's Ed Gale in costume.Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (1991)Bill and Ted have a problem: despite being told they will eventually become the biggest band in the universe, they still don't know how to play their instruments and their girlfriends are fed up with them. Oh, and evil robots from the future have come back to murder them, so there's that. Featuring a stellar soundtrack and lots of jokes, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey did not perform as well as the original in theaters, but has become a cult classic since. Keep an eye out for Station in the film — that's Ed Gale!Spaceballs (1987)In this Mel Brooks masterpiece, Princess Vespa has been kidnapped by Dark Helmet and his cohorts and must be rescued by Lone Star and his faithful companion, Barf. If it all sounds a bit silly it is. Featuring an all-star cast and more Mel Brooks humor than you can swing a lightsaber at. Keep an eye out for Ed Gale as one of the Dinks, and may the Schwartz be with ya!O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)In this Coen Brothers film, three members of a chain gang escape when one of them tells the other two he's chained to that he knows where more than a million dollars worth of treasure is buried. Loosely based on Homer's Odyssey, this is another film with a star-studded cast and an award winning soundtrack. Ed Gale makes an appearance as “the Little Man” during an election and in this appearance, you can actually see his face! (After seeing it, you may recognize him from Bones, My Name is Earl, and many other roles.)Whether he appeared in a speaking role or in a costume, Gale gave every one of his roles 100% and swore people could see him smiling through the masks he wore. After watching these four films, you just might agree with him.Subscribe now to the Video Store Podcast to receive a lifetime supply of popcorn. Offer valid at any of our physical locations. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: 3:05pm- Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson's new book, “Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again,” which is critical of the Biden Administration for covering up the president's physical and cognitive decline, was released earlier this week. While Tapper is now reporting on internal stories about Biden's health decline, why did he—and the rest of the mainstream media—largely ignore the story prior to Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 presidential election? While speaking with journalist Tara Palmeri, DC insider Sally Quinn accused former First Lady Jill Biden of “elderly abuse” for allowing her husband to initially run for re-election in 2024. 3:30pm- While appearing on Fox News, Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) discussed his recent request for the Department of Justice to investigate Joe Biden's cognitive and physical decline while serving as president. 3:40pm- While on NewsNation, Axios reporter and Original Sin co-author Alex Thompson said that Biden Administration officials were shocked that the mainstream media was unwilling to investigate Joe Biden's cognitive and physical decline—instead, constantly taking the White House's word without any critical examination. 3:50pm- To absolutely no one's surprise, Matt has never seen the classic film Spaceballs. Plus, the debate over brioche buns rages on!
The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (05/22/2025): 3:05pm- Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson's new book, “Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again,” which is critical of the Biden Administration for covering up the president's physical and cognitive decline, was released earlier this week. 4:05pm- On Thursday, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released its Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) commission report investigating chronic illness—determining that the health of children nationwide has been negatively impacted by ultra-processed foods, chemical exposures, the over prescription of pharmaceutical drugs, and a lack of emphasis on exercise. From the White House, Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and President Donald Trump announced the results of the report and spoke to the press. Kennedy explained: “never in American history has the federal government taken a position on public health like this”—noting that it had been an ambition of his uncle, President John F. Kennedy, before he was killed. 4:45pm- During Thursday's White House briefing, reporter Peter Doocy asked Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt if unelected Biden Administration staffers concealed the former president's decline so that they could use the levers of power for their own personal gain. 5:05pm- Jennifer Galardi—Senior Policy Analyst for Restoring American Wellness in The Heritage Foundation's DeVos Center—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to assess the Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) newly released Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission report investigating chronic illness. The report determines that the health of children nationwide has been negatively impacted by ultra-processed foods, chemical exposures, the over prescription of pharmaceutical drugs, and a lack of emphasis on exercise. 5:35pm- On Wednesday night two Israeli Embassy staffers were tragically shot and killed outside of the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington D.C. In a post to X, FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that the shooting will be investigated as an “act of terror.” 5:45pm- Steve Hilton—GOP Candidate for Governor of California, former Senior Advisor to the U.K. Prime Minister, and a former Fox News Host—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his campaign and his potential gubernatorial opponent Kamala Harris's role in covering up Joe Biden's physical and mental decline. Hilton argues that as Vice President, Harris was as responsible as anyone for lying to the American people—demonstrating her failure as a leader and disqualifying her from any future office. Jim J. Bullock became a notable entertainment figure in the 1980s when he co-starred on the sitcom Too Close for Comfort as Monroe Ficus and was a regular guest on John Davidson's updated version of the game show Hollywood Squares; Bullock occasionally substituted for Davidson as host.He also appeared on Battlestars, Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour ,and Body Language. He later became a semi-regular on ALF (from 1989 to 1990) as Neal Tanner. Bullock was the voice of Queer Duck in the animated series of cartoons of the same name. In 2000, Bullock was a regular panelist on the revival of I've Got a Secret. He also performed on the national tour of the Broadway production Hairspray as Wilbur Turnblad. Some of his other noteworthy roles include the pilled-up narcoleptic Prince Valium in the 1987 Mel Brooks movie Spaceballs, and the "not-quite-out-of-the-closet" character in a dating montage at the beginning of 2001's Kissing Jessica Stein. From 2004 to 2007, he had a recurring role as Mr. Monroe, a teacher at the fictional James K. Polk Middle School on the Nickelodeon live-action sitcom Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. Deep in space, an evil lurks - Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis), Col. Saunders (George Wyner) and his crew of assholes are plotting to kidnap the Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) in order to steal all of the air on Planet Druidia. During her wedding to Prince Valium (Jim J. Bullock), Vespa escapes with her droid Dot Matrix (Joan Rivers) and is quickly set upon by Helmet who attempts to bring her on board. Panicked, King Roland (Dick Van Patten) calls up Lone Star (Bill Pullman) and his Mog, Barf (John Candy) to save her. For the 1 million space bucks he owes Pizza the Hutt (Dom DeLuise), Lone Star springs into action but crash lands on a sandy planet that happens to be home to Yogurt (Mel Brooks) who can teach him the secrets of his past, the Schwartz and the importance of marketing so he can save the princess and the galaxy. It's the closest we're ever gonna get to you know what, Spaceballs - this week on Doom Generation.

We're bouncing hard and fast between plots this week, and they don't quite gel. In "Saints of Imperfection" Section 31 is in everyone's face, which is weird for a supposedly-secret organization, and Stamets continues the search for Tilly...and finds someone very unexpected. Well, unexpected in-universe. In the real world we all knew it was coming. Also this week: Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, and recasting "Voyager"! Parody and satire are a certain kind of humour. They're VERY easy to do because you just base them off real, already existing things, then you twist it a bit to add humour and make it ridiculous. But that's where it gets tricky! Satire is a parody of a real situation rather than fictional, it tends to have a harder edge. Where it usually goes wrong is that people mistake it for something straight, i.e. NOT satire, not comedy, not exaggeration or ridicule. The two main approaches to parody are a broad satire of a genre, like Princess Bride on fairytale fantasy, or a more targeted approach like Spaceballs which satirised Star Wars, and things in between like Airplane, which made fun of the film Zero Hour but also used it as a chance to parody the disaster movie genre and include a shotgun approach to pop-cultural jokes, making fun of everything happening in the 1970s. When I was growing up Mad Magazine movie parody comics were always a fave of mine, I'd prefer them to the actual movies they made fun off. The art was amazing with great caricatures and the humour was always very cheeky. Asterix was another comic series I enjoyed, which involved a lot of historical satirical humour. One big issue with that kind of targeted humour though is that it's often very dependent on its references for the jokes to fully work, so if you lack familiarity with them it won't bite as hard or sometimes not at all. The trick is to include enough of the context for context dependant jokes so that they can work regardless. If you do your job well enough people will not even remember the original and your satire or parody will completely stand on its own! In our Quackcast we even covered things that become self parodies like the Deadpool Marvel Movies, some of the Roger More James Bond films, the late horror franchise films like Nightmare on Elm street, Friday the 13th and so on. What are some of your fave parodies or satires? I think Princess Bride, the Life of Brian, Blazing Saddles, and Spaceballs are real standouts. But things like Lego Batman, Not Another Teen Movie, and even The Toxic Avenger have their own place. On that last one: Lloyd Kaufman is like a B-movie parody version of Mel Brooks, Mel does the A-list parodies and satires and Lloyd handles the crazier, gross and kinky low budget ones Mel wouldn't touch LOL! Of course Meet The Spartans is the best parody ever, so much better than The 300. It's a topsy-turvy world, and maybe the podcast of three people don't amount to a hill of beans. But this is our hill. And these are our beans! Therefore, on this episode of Baconsale, we're ranking parody movies. What are those? They're films that spoof previous works, but that's not important right now. What's really groovy, baby, is that we have 24 comedies that Joel, Kent, and Zack are going to be tiering, including funny flicks like Hot Shots!, Spaceballs, MacGruber, Tropic Thunder, Scary Movie, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and Waiting for Guffman. Some of them may not rank as high as you'd like, but that's a sacrifice we are willing to make. And beware of exclamation points(!), my wife references, and the Joel genre, as we decide IF we're going to make a sequel. Put... the candle... back! Then press play.
Techdirt has finally accepted the inevitable and gone full democracy blog—because let's face it, politics and tech are now the same dumpster fire. Google rolled out AI Mode for Search, proving once again that the internet is just Clippy with better branding. Meanwhile, Billy McFarland insists Fyre Festival 2 is totally happening, despite Mexican officials pointing out that his coordinates literally lead to the ocean. Speaking of fraud, Tesla sales are in freefall thanks to Elon's alt-right cosplay, and people are setting Teslas on fire in protest. And in rich-guy disconnect news, Google's Sergey Brin thinks engineers should work 60-hour weeks to build the AI that will replace them. That's some late-stage capitalism poetry right there.Elsewhere, Trump Media paid Don Jr. nearly a quarter of its revenue to show up twice, while indie musicians can't afford to tour, proving once again that grifting is more profitable than making art. Technicolor shut down overnight, stranding 10,000 workers because Hollywood's financial planning is apparently as stable as a Starship rocket launch. Oh yeah, SpaceX exploded another one.Meanwhile, Netflix's attempt to upscale A Different World turned it into a Lovecraftian horror show. A quarter of Y Combinator startups now run on “vibe coding,” meaning their software is basically a Ouija board with extra steps. The AI takeover continues as OpenAI plans to charge $20,000 monthly for specialized AI "agents," proving once again that the revolution will be monetized. Meanwhile, Moscow's Pravda network has been poisoning Western AI chatbots with Russian propaganda, because if you can't convince humans, just brainwash the robots that humans increasingly trust. On the bright side, hackers brought the Humane AI Pin back to life after it was bricked, transforming an overpriced paperweight into... a slightly less useless overpriced paperweight. ChatGPT can now directly edit code in macOS development tools, making it easier for AI to introduce bugs you never would have thought of yourself. Over At the Library, check out "The Tempest" by Peter Cawdron for your first contact fix, and if you're worried about where society is heading (and who isn't?), Timothy Snyder's "On Tyranny" offers a survival guide for our slow-motion constitutional collapse. He's in St. Charles at the Funny Bone tonight, tomorrow and Sunday, but he's with us in studio today! You might remember him from Spaceballs and ALL the Police Academy movies, Michael Winslow.
Start off with an old-school Kids' Sports Update before getting to the movie.Yor, The Hunter from the Future: A caveman with a backstory, such that there is one, similar to Lonestar in Spaceballs wanders around the Turkish countryside causing mayhem. He meets women. They fall in love with him. Other cavemen come along and destroy shit. Then SUDDENLY, there's space ships and laser beams. Apparently Yor is actually from an advanced civilization! And his civilization is fighting another civilization of bad guys who want to create a world of androids. There is no time travel. This is all happening on the same planet at the same time and no one noticed. Whatever. Yor, The Movie with the Wordy Title final grade: Steve: I wanted to like this one, but Antonio Marrrgggeriiitttiii's attempt to take a four-hour mini-series and pare it down to a 90-minute movie probably lost a lot of the plot. Tarzan/Flash Gordon mash-up was too convoluted. 1.8/5.0Brandon: The first 60 minutes of this movie had nothing to do with the last 30. There wasn't any attempt to tie the Star Wars-y stuff to the caveman stuff. Yor wasn't even from the future. He was just from a different part of the same beachfront property. 1.9/5.0Cocktail of the Week:The Cosmic Caveman1 oz Bourbon1/2 oz Mezcal1/2 oz Blue Curaçao1 oz Pineapple Juice1/2 oz Fresh-squeezed Lime Juice1/2 oz Honey SyrupAngostura Bitters1/2 oz Over-proof RumCombine everything except the rum in a cocktail shaker. Shake to combine and chill, then strain into a rocks glass. Garnish with a lime wheel laid on top. Pour over-proof rum onto lime wheel/chunk and light the rum on fire. Cocktail Grade: ChatGPT is clearly in the tank for Big Blue Curaçao. Looks like toxic waste. Doesn't taste great. You don't make enough money to support ChatGPT's liquor budget. Really gave Steve some tummy troubles the next morning. 1.3/5.0------------------Contact us with feedback or cocktail/movie recommendations to:boozeandbmovies@gmail.comX: @boozeandbmoviesInstagram: @boozeandbmoviesThreads: @boozeandbmovieswww.facebook.com/boozeandbmovies

This week marks the launch of our Bait and Switch movie reviews! We've assembled a panel of comedic experts—Matt Kemple and Chris Schmidt—for a ludicrous-speed detour into nostalgia as we revisit Mel Brooks' Spaceballs. Matt, a self-proclaimed Spaceballs superfan, shares his deep love (and multiple copies) of the film, while the rest of us weigh in on everything from Yogurt's wisdom to Dark Helmet's questionable fashion choices. We talk about where Spaceballs ranks among Mel Brooks' classics, we break down the film's most amusing elements, including its fourth-wall-breaking gags, and debate whether its slapstick humor still holds up. The verdict: If you grew up quoting this sci-fi spoof, you're probably still quoting it today. Enjoy this nostalgic blast from the past!
Our recording of #Pratchat83 was delayed at the last minute, so our discussion of The Ankh-Morpork Archives and The Discworld Almanak will have to wait until later in the month - hopefully around the 25th February. But subscriber Molokov suggested it might be fun to discuss some of the other, less book-like Discworld merchandise available, so in this shorter bonus episode, Ben does just that! We'd love to hear about your favourite merch, official or fan-made! Drop us a line and/or a photograph using the hashtag #PratchatMerch on social media, via email, or chat to us via our subscriber Discord. The merch Ben mentions this episode from the Discworld Emporium includes the Ankh-Morpork Doodle Map, Terry Pratchett's Hat silver pin badge; Death's Omega cloak pin; the Band with Rocks In tour T-shirt; the plushie Greebo and rat-onna-stick; beermats of pubs and brands; and the dried frog pills box. It's not as easy to link to individual items at Discworld.com, but things Ben mentioned from there include various pins and badges; rare collectible pins; shopper bags; acrylic beanies; and the Great A'Tuin golf umbrella. The Anoia tea towel Ben liked was also from the Emporium, not Discworld.com, though they have tea towels too. He forgot to mention Discworld.com's notebooks - the Unseen University and Assassin's Guild ones are especially good. And their T-shirts aren't as “subtle” as he remembered, though their socks are certainly a bit less subtle than the Emporium's. The episode title is a reference to a specific scene in Mel Brooks' 1987 Star Wars parody Spaceballs. We'll be back in late February with #Pratchat83, discussing The Ankh-Morpork Archives Volume I and Volume II, and The Discworld Almanak. If you're very quick you could still get a question in about those! In March we're commemorating the tenth anniversary of Terry's death by discussing his thoughts on dying from “Shaking Hands with Death”, the Richard Dimbleby lecture he gave (with help from Tony Robinson) in 2010. It's most readily available in A Slip of the Keyboard, but you can also watch the original speech on YouTube. It gets pretty heavy, but we'll approach this discussion with empathy and kindness. Get your questions for that one in using the hashtag #Pratchat84.
The Last Jedi, despite being a massive financial success, has been highly divisive since its release in December 2017. Sure, there are those who love and defend it, especially for its willingness to subvert expectations. Its detractors, though, often cite The Last Jedi's nonsensical plot and less than favorable depiction of beloved Star Wars hero Luke Skywalker for why they hate it. The pod tends to lean toward the latter. For all its exceptional visuals and some genuinely great Star Wars moments, The Last Jedi often feels like a muddled mess—less a sequel to a $2 billion movie, more a piece of odd fan fiction. Hence the divide between fans. As the middle part of a trilogy, The Last Jedi too often throws away or outright dismisses plot threads from The Force Awakens.
