All anyone wants to talk about right now is Electronic Arts, and reasonably so. The American publishing titan is on the verge of being purchased by external interests for $55 billion, and when we say external, we mean it. The major player in reverting EA to a private corporation is Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, muddying this already complex deal that also happens to be the largest leveraged buyout in human history. Perhaps not surprisingly, this gives us much to pontificate on. Other news this week includes rumblings of a DualSense revision with a removable battery, the very real potential that a Prototype remaster is imminent, the wisdom (or perhaps lack thereof) in Forza Horizon 6 skipping PlayStation 5 at launch, and more. We then get into listener inquiries to wrap up the show, as we always do. What are our thoughts on Xbox's staggering Game Pass price hike? How do we feel about Magic: The Gathering's stylish new collaboration with PlayStation? Is Destiny officially on death's door? Will Dustin have a coffee named after him at a cafe in Texas? In October 1996, a rancher in rural Wise County, Texas, stumbled on a body hidden in a brush pile. For over two years she was known only as “Brush Girl,” a Jane Doe with no name, no identity, and no justice. Eventually, persistence and forensic artistry revealed her true identity: 14-year-old April Dawn Lacy from Oklahoma City.April's story is one of poverty, addiction, instability, and systemic failure — a child caught between parents lost to alcohol and drugs, shuffled between motels and friends' homes, desperate for stability. Five days after storming out of a seedy motel room following a fight with her mother, she was dead. Strangled. Dumped. Forgotten by many, but not by all. This episode follows April's life, disappearance, discovery, and identification, and examines how her murder fits into a chilling pattern of killings along interstates in Texas and Oklahoma — crimes later tied to long-haul truckers like John Robert Williams, the so-called “Big Rig Killer.”Nearly three decades later, April's grave still bears no headstone. Her case remains unsolved. But her story is more than a case number — it is a call for justice, and a reminder of the children who slip through the cracks. If you have any information regarding the 1996 murder of April Dawn Lacy, please contact the Wise County Sheriff's Office at (940) 627-5971.Sources: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, The Houston Chronicle, The Daily Oklahoman, The Bryan-College Station Eagle, The Tyler Morning TelegraphYou can support gone cold and listen to the show ad-free at https://patreon.com/gonecoldpodcastFind us at https://www.gonecold.comFor Gone Cold merch, visit https://gonecold.dashery.comFollow gone cold on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, and X. UPDATE: When we first covered Robert Eugene Brashers back in April 2025, we never imagined he'd be tied to one of Texas's most infamous crimes: the 1991 Austin Yogurt Shop Murders. Now, advanced DNA testing has confirmed his link to the horrific killings that haunted Austin for more than three decades. On December 6, 1991, four teenage girls, Jennifer and Sarah Harbison, Eliza Thomas, and Amy Ayers, were found bound, gagged, and shot inside an I Can't Believe It's Yogurt! shop that had been set on fire. The case became one of Texas's deepest mysteries, spawning thousands of leads, false confessions, and the wrongful convictions of two young men later cleared by DNA evidence. Now stay tuned for episode 305: “Genetic Justice: Unmasking Robert Brashers.” From the original airdate: For years, Robert Brashers had managed to evade justice, slipping through the cracks repeatedly. But on January 13, 1999, his luck finally ran out in a modest motel room in Kennett, Missouri. What began as a routine police search quickly escalated into a tense, life-or-death standoff that would forever change the lives of those involved. Who was Robert Brashers? A man who his wife and children loved. What could have driven him to such a tragic end? The entire truth would remain hidden for years, with whispers suggesting that there were more victims out there. Today, I am thrilled to reconnect with a previous guest, Dr. Mary Claire Haver. Dr. Haver is a board-certified OBGYN, a certified menopause provider, and the founder of Mary Claire Wellness, a private medical practice focusing on women in midlife. Her best-selling book, the Galveston Diet, and her latest New York Times best-seller, The New Menopause, are fabulous resources for middle-aged women. In our discussion today, we dive into various aspects of perimenopause, looking at the associated challenges. We discuss factors accelerating ovarian aging, the role of contraception, mental health shifts, and the often delayed diagnosis of premature ovarian insufficiency. We examine the differences between hormone replacement therapy and oral contraceptives, discussing the importance of advocacy for women's health and the benefits of vaginal estrogen. We explore the disparity in federal funding for women's health research, the impact of the Women's Health Initiative, body composition changes, the estrabolome, the 30 Plant Challenge, and the advantages of HRT. Dr. Haver also talks about her preferred supplements. I'm sure you will find this conversation a valuable resource that you will likely revisit several times. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: Why perimenopause is so fraught with chaos Some of the factors that hasten ovarian aging How perimenopause causes significant changes in neurotransmitters, leading to cognitive changes The differences between HRT and oral contraceptives How estrogen loss during menopause affects vaginal tissue The benefits of vaginal estrogen for symptoms of menopause How women's health research funding prioritizes reproduction over menopause and perimenopause How HRT can help with fat loss and muscle mass in postmenopausal women The emergence of eating-disordered behaviors in menopausal women Some of the lesser-known symptoms of menopause and ways to overcome them How HRT could impact the longevity and cognitive health of women Bio: Dr Mary Claire Haver Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a board-certified OB-GYN who has devoted her adult life to women's health. When she began to experience the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain, she created her online program, The Galveston Diet, which currently has over 80,000 students. The Galveston Diet is the first and only nutrition program in the world created by a female OB-GYN, designed for women in menopause. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, specializing in medical nutrition. In 2021, Dr. Haver opened Mary Claire Wellness; the clinic was born out of repeated requests from the Galveston Diet students and Dr. Haver's social media followers for personal guidance. Miami is on a mission right now, Penn State just hit rock bottom, Texas is NOT who we thought they were, Florida keeps fighting for Billy Napier, Alabama just put on a clinic and the preseason rankings officially mean nothing. McElroy breaks down all those plus tells you why UCLA's win is exactly what makes College Football the best, why elite teams like Ohio State, Georgia, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Michigan continue to handle their business and why it is so difficult to win on the road. Trauma is not a single moment. It is an ongoing dialogue between your brain, body, and environment. In this conversation, Dr. Mbemba Jabbi explains how neuroplasticity and affective neuroscience help us understand protective patterns like hypervigilance, shutdown, and dissociation. We explore the roles of the insula, amygdala, and cingulate networks in sensing threat, shaping emotions, and connecting brain states with bodily signals such as heart, gut, and breath. Dr. Jabbi also discusses research that associates early childhood trauma, including sexual trauma, with higher inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein, while emphasizing that biology interacts with environment and change is possible. You will hear how sensory training, co-regulation, psychotherapy, and supportive practices may help repattern responses over time. This is a grounded, science-informed look at why survival strategies make sense in context and how compassionate, skills-based work can support nervous system health. If you or your clients live with complex developmental trauma, this episode offers language, frameworks, and first steps that respect lived experience and prioritize safety. Timestamps: 0:00 Protective patterning and repeating environments 1:00 Meet Dr. Jabbi and her research lens 7:10 Brain circuits in emotion and stress 13:20 Insula, interoception, and body-brain links 18:00 Survival values and environmental context 26:00 Adaptive suppression vs. underdevelopment 40:00 Inflammation and childhood trauma (C-reactive protein) 49:00 Treatment implications and tracking biomarkers 56:00 Fast and slow fear pathways, behavior outputs 59:50 Key takeaways for practitioners and individuals 1:02:00 Repatterning for joy and post-traumatic growth 1:03:30 Where to practice the tools in the community Key Takeaways: Emotions are functional survival signals that reflect whole-body states. The insula, amygdala, and cingulate form networks that integrate sensory input with bodily responses. Protective outputs like numbness or shutdown are learned adaptations that supported safety. Studies associate early childhood trauma with elevated inflammation markers, while outcomes are shaped by environment and support. Neuroplasticity means skills, relationships, and practice can help repattern responses over time. Send us a textA six-million-dollar mansion, a bitter divorce, and a midnight shooting that left a 12-year-old dead—then a not guilty verdict that stunned Texas. We retrace the aftermath of the Cullen and Priscilla Davis case and examine how venue changes, narrative warfare, and community loyalty can bend the arc of justice. From Racehorse Haynes's masterclass in defense strategy to a courtroom culture that felt more like a fan convention, we unpack how a jury heard two eyewitnesses, zero physical evidence, and a thousand rumors—and still walked a wealthy defendant out the front door. The story doesn't end there. When the divorce court kept ruling against him, a murder-for-hire scheme targeted the judge and Priscilla. An ally flipped to the FBI, staged macabre photos with ketchup “blood,” and recorded the payoff in a diner parking lot. On tape, with cash in hand, the case seemed unloseable—until the defense floated a wild counter: he was “helping” the FBI. Despite the Bureau's denial, another jury acquitted. We explore why that argument resonated, what it reveals about juror psychology, and how hometown prestige, oil money, and media frenzy intertwined to shape both trials.Along the way, we reflect on the victims who too often vanish in the glare: Andrea, a young girl whose death became a footnote, and Stan Farr, remembered mostly for how the case treated his family afterward. We follow the mansion's strange second lives, the fall of Ken Davis Industries, and the uneasy legacy of a case that still feels modern in all the worst ways. If you care about true crime beyond headlines—jury dynamics, defense tactics, and the real cost to families—you'll find this chapter of Texas history impossible to forget. If this deep dive resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who loves Texas true crime, and leave a quick review—your support helps more curious listeners find us.www.texaswineandtruecrime.com
At the very end of Moshe's life, he, like Jacob before him, blesses the tribes. When Jacob was about to pass, he blessed his sons, now Moshe is blessing the tribes that those sons spawned. These blessings were nor random, but very targeted blessings for each tribe so that they know what their particular tribe needs to contribute. In this podcast - the final Parsha Podcast of the seventh cycle of the Parsha Podcast, we examine the blessing given to the tribe of Levi. Peabody Award-nominated writer and Episode 389 guest David Fleming (“Breaker Boys: The NFL's Greatest Team and the Stolen 1925 Championship”) returns to the show to unpack one of the National Football League's most chaotic and fascinating chapters: the disaster of the 1952 Dallas Texans. In his new book,"A Big Mess in Texas: The Miraculous, Disastrous 1952 Dallas Texans and the Craziest Untold Story in NFL History," Fleming chronicles the league's first attempt to plant a professional football franchise in football-crazed Texas — a venture so ill-fated that the NFL reportedly still disavows it. Fleming guides us through the Texans' brief and turbulent existence, from their origins as the financially struggling New York Yanks to their relocation to Dallas under the ambitious but ill-prepared Miller brothers. We explore a 1–11 season riddled with logistical nightmares and meet the team's unforgettable characters: future Hall of Famers Art Donovan and Gino Marchetti, unsung heroes like Buddy Young and George Taliaferro, and a broader cast of characters who fought to keep the team afloat despite unrelenting chaos. You'll hear about rattlesnakes on the practice field, barroom brawls, bounced checks, paternity suits, one-legged trainers, humiliating defeats, a miraculous victory, strip poker with groupies, and even a future Hall of Fame coach stealing a cab. Amidst the madness, Fleming spotlights the Texans' lone shining moment: a Thanksgiving Day "home game" upset over the Chicago Bears at the Rubber Bowl in Akron, Ohio — an improbable triumph that perfectly captured the team's fleeting flashes of brilliance against a constant tide of organizational mayhem. The movement to end gerrymandering is something we've covered on the show several times over the years. Until recently, the conversation focused on independent redistricting commissions formed as a result of grassroots action from voters who felt that gerrymandering led to elected officials who didn't represent the values of the communities they served. The issue is now decidedly more partisan thanks to efforts to redraw maps to benefit Republicans in Texas and Democrats in California — even as majorities of voters across the political spectrum continue to come down against partisan gerrymandering. What's a nonpartisan reformer to do in this new reality? We spoke with two people who recently won victories to create fairer maps in their states. Carol Kuniholm is the co-founder and chair of Fair Districts PA, which won a court case to redraw Pennsylvania's maps in 2021 and is pushing for the creation of an independent redistricting commission in the Keystone State. Emma Addams is co-executive director of Mormon Women for Ethical Government, which was part of a coalition that filed a complaint that led to a Utah court striking down the state's congressional map in August 2025. Kuniholm and Addams discuss how they created the coalitions necessary to create change, the peril that comes with making redistricting a partisan issue, and why the efforts in Texas and California might not work out the way the parties expect. This is the surprising story of how Texas – rich in oil and gas – became America's biggest producer of wind energy. For our first episode, Ryan and Anjali talk with Pat Wood, once George W. Bush's right hand man and head of Texas's Public Utility Commission, to uncover the innovative approach that turned Texas into a renewable energy powerhouse. It's a story about what could get done before partisan politics got in the way of good climate policy, and it shows that economic incentives for consumers, government, and companies can play a huge role in supercharging clean energy.TED Talks Daily is nominated for the Signal Award for Best Conversation Starter Podcast. We thought Week 6 would be quiet. We were wrong. Dead wrong. Three top 15 teams fell to unranked opponents in what might be the most chaotic Saturday of the season. We dive deep into Penn State's shocking 42-37 loss to UCLA—a team that fired its coach just days earlier. The loss raises serious questions about James Franklin's future despite his $50+ million buyout. Can this relationship be salvaged? We also break down Florida's inspired 29-21 upset of Texas in The Swamp, where the Gators' defense sacked Arch Manning six times and exposed flaws in the Longhorns' offensive line. Plus, Miami continues to look like a legitimate contender with a dominant road win over Florida State, powered by freshman sensation Malachi Toney and an elite defensive front. Beyond the headline upsets, we analyze Alabama's methodical win over Vanderbilt, Cincinnati's offensive explosion against Iowa State, Bryce Underwood's career day against Wisconsin, and what all this chaos means for the playoff picture. To close things out, Ty reveals his updated top 12 rankings, we answer live Verballer questions about Ohio State inevitability, the best G6 teams, and the champions of NIL, and finally, hand out Dude Alerts to standouts like Bear Bachmeier, Dallas Wilson, and Ty Simpson. Week 6 is in the books, and what looked like it was not going to be a very exciting week of college football proved to be anything but that. The premiere matchup of the night had #3 Miami visiting #18 Florida State. Despite a late comeback by the Seminoles, the Hurricanes proved to be the more dominant team as they walked away with a 28-22 win. Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey discuss Miami's performance, the emergence of Malachi Toney and the overwhelming Miami defense. Plus, they chat about if Miami will be the number one seed in the CFP and if FSU can still make a run for the playoff? Then, the guys discuss the most shocking upset of the day as 0-4 UCLA defeated #7 Penn State. Behind newly named OC Jerry Neuheisel, UCLA scored 42 points and hung on to win 42-37. After two devastating losses, what is going on with Penn State, and are there brighter days ahead this season?Later, the guys discuss another upset from Saturday as Florida took down #9 Texas. Arch Manning continued to struggle as he threw two interceptions on the way to a 29-21 Florida win. With so much hype entering the season, how can Arch turn his season around, or is it time to bench Arch Manning? Andy, Ross and Godfrey discuss this and if there is a path for Texas to still make it to the CFP?Lastly, the guys discuss the other big matchup of the day that saw #10 Alabama avenge last season's upset and beat #16 Vanderbilt. Ty Simpson impressed with over 300 yards passing as Alabama continues to look like a much different team than the one the country saw in the first week of the season when they lost to Florida State. Is Alabama the team to beat out of the SEC despite their early season struggles? A difficult schedule will soon show what can be expected out of this team. All of this and more to wrap up Week 6 on College Football Enquirer.(1:28) - #3 Miami defeats #18 Florida State(19:35) - UCLA upsets #7 Penn State(31:15) - Florida upsets #9 Texas(52:04) - #10 Alabama defeats #16 Vanderbilt(1:04:38) - Around the country Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:

Skip the banter: 00:05:50 (depends on ads in beginning) It started with a young woman left for dead on the side of a road in Oklahoma, her blue high heel abandoned in the street. But the investigation into her so-called hit-and-run revealed a far more disturbing truth—this woman wasn't who anyone thought she was. What followed was a years-long unraveling of stolen identities, a child kidnapped from school at gunpoint, and a predator who used aliases the way most people use passwords. The woman known as Tonya Hughes had been kidnapped as a child and held captive for fifteen years by the man who later claimed to be her husband. Allison tells us the rest of this story, one with a dark twist buried somewhere near the Texas border. Support us and become a Patron! Eight (ish?) years ago, actor/comedian/Emmy winner Jeff Hiller was a guest on this podcast to discuss reading celebrity memoirs. Today he returns to discuss what it was like to WRITE one! We were so excited to talk to Jeff we did the unprecedented/confusing thing of doing another episode of this podcast which for real is not happening anymore! Okay, back to Jeff! After the success of playing Joel on the terrific HBO show Somebody, Somewhere Jeff wrote a memoir "Actress Of A Certain Age." It tells stories of growing up in Texas, working for non profits in Denver and Africa, pursuing acting in NYC, doing improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, moving to LA and then back to NYC and lots more. We were thrilled to talk to Jeff about his book and his life! Thank you Jeff! For minor obsessions, Anthony talked about trying to switch from reading social media to getting daily email newsletters and Will discussed the maddening video game Baby Steps. Thanks to John Flynn (who wrote his own terrific memoir Baked) for suggesting this episode!
Chris Lee and Chase Robinson share their thoughts on Texas A&M's impressive win against Mississippi State, what stood out for both teams, expectations for the Aggies and Bulldogs moving forward, other SEC football Week 6 storylines, the College Football Playoff picture, and much more. In this episode of the Jewish Inspiration Podcast, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe reflects on the spiritual intensity of Yom Kippur and its seamless connection to Sukkot, emphasizing themes of forgiveness, selflessness, and renewal. He highlights how these holidays inspire a fresh start through acts of unity and service to Hashem. Key points include:Yom Kippur's Holiness: Yom Kippur, known as Yom HaKadosh (the Holy Day), is a time when Hashem desires closeness with us through teshuvah (repentance). The Al Chet prayer combines sins done “be'ones” (by mistake) and “beratzon” (with desire), teaching that even intentional sins stem from momentary weakness due to the Yetzer Hara (evil inclination). The Tefillah Zaka prayer, recited before Kol Nidre, acknowledges this struggle, asking forgiveness for succumbing to temptations despite our deeper desire to align with Hashem's will.Divine Forgiveness: Citing Numbers 14:20 (“Vayomer Hashem salachti kidvarecha” – “I forgive you as you have requested”), Rabbi Wolbe emphasizes that sincere requests for forgiveness are immediately granted by Hashem, unlike human forgiveness with preconditions. This assurance fosters joy, as seen in sages dancing post-Yom Kippur, feeling unburdened of sins.Sukkot's Role: Sukkot, beginning September 25, 2025, is not a “forgotten holiday” but a vital demonstration of Yom Kippur's renewal. Leaving one's home for the sukkah symbolizes breaking old habits and starting anew, embracing discomfort (e.g., Houston's heat or rain) to avoid complacency. The four species (lulav, etrog, hadas, arava) represent unity among diverse Jews, while the 70 offerings for the nations reflect the Jewish mission to model ethics and morality globally.Selflessness on Yom Kippur: Rabbi Wolbe shares a personal story of responding to a Hatzalah call at 1 AM on Yom Kippur, driving a patient to the hospital while his daughter babysat the patient's children until 9:30 AM with minimal sleep. This act, inspired by his grandfather's teaching in the Mir Yeshiva to visit the sick during Musaf, exemplifies Yom Kippur's mitzvah of selflessness over selfishness, reinforcing the holiday's essence.Livelihood and Service: Yom Kippur prayers frequently mention livelihood, as financial worry hinders serving Hashem fully. A secure livelihood frees one to focus on spiritual growth, aligning with Sukkot's call to trust in Hashem while living simply in the sukkah. The episode concludes with a blessing for a meaningful Sukkot, a year of health, happiness, and secure livelihood, urging listeners to carry Yom Kippur's selflessness into daily life.Recorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on October 5, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on October 5, 2025_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired!
