In 1821, a little-known backwoods hunter named David Crockett won a seat in the Tennessee legislature, despite having little formal education and virtually no political experience beyond his gift for spinning a good story. It marked an unlikely turning point for a man who would become a symbol of the American frontier, which was then rapidly expanding as settlers pushed into land long inhabited by Indigenous peoples. Ultimately, Crockett's frontier persona would prove his greatest political asset, eventually carrying him all the way to Congress. But once there, he would break with his own party over Native removal, before heading to Texas for one final, fateful stand at the Alamo.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Are you tired of leaving your investment capital sitting on the sidelines, waiting for the "perfect" real estate deal to come along? In this episode of The Note Closers Show, Scott Carson delivers a massive shortcut to double-digit returns without the headaches of traditional property management, intensive due diligence, or multi-decade commitments. We are breaking down a high-yield, short-term case study on a performing Texas hard money loan located in the fast-growing market of Richardson, Texas—just north of Dallas. Discover how a seasoned, nationwide hard money lender is looking to recapitalize their growing business by selling off pieces of a $13 million performing paper portfolio. This featured asset is a true first lien secured by a vacant, four-bedroom red brick probate property undergoing a light cosmetic refresh by an experienced local rehabber. With $36,000 of the borrower's own skin in the game and a disciplined 70% loan-to-after-repair-value (ARV) cushion, this asset is built from the ground up to protect investor capital while kicking off serious cash flow. Scott walks you step-by-step through the underlying numbers, explaining how purchasing this note at par delivers a powerful 12.89% cash-on-cash ROI over a brief 11-to-12-month timeline. You will also learn about the "Rule of 72" and how securing a consistent 12% interest rate can put your retirement funds or self-directed IRA on the fast track to doubling every six years. Whether you want to step into an immediate monthly stream of $3,298, let the originating lender handle all ongoing servicing and rehab monitoring, or learn the exact steps to foreclose and capture a massive equity spread if things go sideways, this episode is your ultimate guide to truly passive real estate wealth. Key Topics Covered in This Episode:The Power of Short-Term Paper: Why a 1-year performing hard money loan is a perfect alternative to long-term 30-year notes for agile capital allocation. Richardson, TX Case Study: Detailed asset breakdown of a 4-bed, 2-bath probate property sitting in a highly desirable DFW submarket. Dissecting the Numbers: Understanding the math behind a $304,000 note balance yielding an impressive 12.89% ROI. Built-In Downside Protection: Why a 70% LTV, a strict lender escrow holdback, and $36,000 in borrower skin in the game keeps your investment secure. True Passive Investing: How the original lender retains servicing, monitors the rehab progress, and handles downside management on your behalf. The Rule of 72 Explained: How to implement a repeatable "rinse and repeat" model to double your investment capital every six years. Due Diligence and Legal Rights: Navigating first lien positions, reviewing credit/FICO profiles, and leveraging Texas's fast 30-day foreclosure process. Ready to stop waiting and start taking action? Could the SEC actually break away from the NCAA? On this episode of Last Call, Mick Gillispie and former Alabama national championship quarterback Jake Coker react to Greg Sankey's eye-opening comments from SEC Media Days and discuss why college football's lack of leadership, inconsistent NIL rules and massive financial disparities could eventually lead to a new super-league. The guys examine how a potential SEC and Big Ten breakaway could reshape college football, whether programs like Clemson and Florida State could eventually join the SEC, and why the current system cannot regulate Alabama, Texas, Ohio State and Michigan the same way it regulates smaller athletic departments. Jake also revisits the legendary feud between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher, revealing how personally Fisher took Saban's comments about Texas A&M recruiting. With NIL spending now becoming the standard across college football, does Jimbo's furious response look even worse in hindsight? The conversation then turns to the culture Nick Saban built at Alabama. Jake shares inside stories about the player-led leadership of Jarran Reed, Jonathan Allen, A'Shawn Robinson, Ryan Anderson and other Crimson Tide stars—including how Scott Cochran reportedly broke a second-place trophy to reinforce Alabama's championship-or-bust mentality. Can that type of culture still exist in the transfer portal and NIL era? Plus, Alabama was picked to finish a stunning seventh in the SEC preseason poll. Are Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide being overlooked? Jake breaks down Ryan Grubb's quarterback development, Alabama's loaded QB room, Kane Wommack's defense, concerns about the offensive line and running game, and why the Tide could once again use preseason disrespect as motivation. And, of course, Jake and Mick debate what truly qualifies someone as a “redneck,” complete with stories about Jimbo Fisher, hunting, giant bucks and turkey heads.

On this episode of Americana Podcast: The 51st State, host Robert Earl Keen welcomes acclaimed singer-songwriter, actor, and Academy Award winner Ryan Bingham for a conversation recorded at the legendary Continental Club in Austin, Texas. Before Hollywood recognition and Yellowstone fame, Bingham's life was shaped by the realities of the American West—rodeo circuits, ranch work, and years spent writing songs rooted in lived experience rather than romanticized myth. That authenticity became the foundation of a career that began with his breakthrough album Mescalito and led to an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Grammy for "The Weary Kind" from Crazy Heart. Bingham joins REK to discuss his long-awaited return with They Call Us the Lucky Ones, his first studio album in seven years. Created alongside longtime collaborators The Texas Gentlemen, the record emerged from relaxed jam sessions rather than meticulously planned studio work, resulting in an album that feels both spontaneous and deeply personal. Together, REK and Bingham explore songwriting, growing up in the American West, finding an authentic creative voice, and the experiences that continue to shape Bingham's music. It's a conversation about resilience, gratitude, and why the most enduring songs are often the ones that simply tell the truth. Jake Jurewicz is the Co-founder and CEO of Blue Energy, a nuclear power plant developer. Blue Energy starts with proven, light water reactors and builds everything around them — prefabricating standardized nuclear plants as massive modules in shipyards and fab yards, then barging them to site. It pairs that with a patented gas-to-nuclear approach that energizes the plant on gas turbines first and converts to nuclear later. The goal is to make nuclear cheap enough and fast enough to build that private lenders will finance it, rather than the taxpayers and ratepayers who've carried almost every plant built so far. The company recently announced a collaboration with GE Vernova on a 2.5-gigawatt gas-plus-nuclear project in Texas, built around GE Vernova Hitachi's BWRX-300 reactor, with backing from VXI Capital, At One Ventures, and Engine Ventures. The why now is straightforward: AI data centers are pulling on the grid harder than anything in a generation, firm clean power is scarce, and the cost and speed of building nuclear have been the thing holding it back. Jake's bet is that the fix lives in how you build and finance the plant, rather than in the reactor itself. In this lesson from the Gate of Repentance (Shaar HaTeshuvah), Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores one of the most compassionate principles of Jewish thought: teshuvah is deeply personal. Not everyone possesses the same knowledge, temperament, emotional resilience, or physical ability. Just as the courts in the Temple era evaluated each individual before administering punishment according to what they could physically endure, so too every person's path of repentance must be tailored to their unique circumstances. There is no universal formula for returning to Hashem. The wise mentor or teacher must understand the individual and guide them according to their strengths, limitations, and spiritual capacity.Rabbi Wolbe emphasizes that authentic spiritual growth requires knowing ourselves honestly. Some people thrive through physical discipline, while others would become discouraged by overly demanding practices. Acts of self-restraint—such as limiting physical pleasures, fasting occasionally, or taking on other personal challenges—are valuable only when they genuinely help a person grow closer to Hashem. He shares personal examples, including his own dislike of cold weather and his son's willingness to embrace cold-water challenges, illustrating that every individual must choose the path that strengthens their own character rather than imitate someone else's. Teshuvah is not measured by comparing ourselves to others, but by becoming the best version of ourselves. The episode concludes with one of the Talmud's most moving stories: Rabbi Elazar ben Dordaya, whose lifetime of immorality was transformed by a single moment of complete, heartfelt repentance. After realizing that no one else could intercede on his behalf, he turned directly to Hashem with overwhelming sincerity. At that moment, a Heavenly voice proclaimed that he had earned a place in the World to Come. Rabbi Wolbe explains that Judaism's unique approach to repentance requires no intermediaries, no confessional, and no human absolution. Every Jew has direct access to the Almighty. No matter how far a person has fallen, a sincere return to Hashem has the power to erase a lifetime of mistakes and restore an intimate relationship with the Creator._____________This Episode is Dedicated Anonymously to the I'lui Neshama of העשל בן יצחק הכהןThis Podcast Series is Generously Underwritten by Peter & Becky BotvinRecorded at TORCH Centre in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on December 15, 2025, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on July 21, 2026_____________This series on Orchos Tzadikim/Ways of the Righteous is produced in partnership with Hachzek.Join the revolution of daily Mussar study at hachzek.com.We are using the Treasure of Life edition of the Orchos Tzadikkim (Published by Feldheim)_____________Listen, Subscribe & Share: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/jewish-inspiration-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1476610783Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4r0KfjMzmCNQbiNaZBCSU7) to stay inspired! Share your questions at aw@torchweb.org or visit torchweb.org for more Torah content.  _____________About the Host:Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe, Director of TORCH in Houston, brings decades of Torah scholarship to guide listeners in applying Jewish wisdom to daily life.  To directly send your questions, comments, and feedback, please email: awolbe@torchweb.org_____________Support Our Mission:Our Mission is Connecting Jews & Judaism. Friday July 10th: Department of War drops forty more Pursue files spanning 1948 to last year. Tonight Jeremy and Jake go through all of it.The centerpiece is a 77-year-old transcript that sat classified until last Friday. On February 16th, 1949, Edward Teller, Lincoln La Paz, and the Los Alamos lab director convened a secret meeting about green fireballs streaking silently over their own nuclear installations. By the end, even Teller couldn't explain the horizontal flight path. The lab director closed the meeting admitting it remained unexplained. That meeting created Project Twinkle, a network of observation posts built to catch these things on instruments. It was shut down before it could.Seventy years later: an unidentified object over the Pantex plant near Amarillo, Texas, the country's primary nuclear weapons assembly facility. Radar, trained witnesses, cameras, and video all converging on the same object above a nuclear weapons site with no explanation. Also in the release: a photograph from the space shuttle Columbia, a 28-year Air Force and Navy veteran who saw something unlike anything in his career, and a Harvard astrophysicist revealing his science council has requested 50 additional files the Pentagon still hasn't handed over.Patreon: https://patreon.com/InfiniteRabbitHoleJeremy's Book: https://www.amazon.com/U-F-Elmwood-Cosmic-Puzzle/dp/B0GX1GBMZNYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@InfiniteRabbitHolePodcastWebsite: https://InfiniteRabbitHole.com

    Movie Roulette Tuesday: The Podcast

Send us Fan MailOur “Don't Mess With Texas” theme continues with one of the most iconic episodes in Texas history; “The Alamo.”  We chose the 2004 version of this movie, which is a little more historically accurate than the 1960 John Wayne epic.  Directed by John Lee Hancock and starring Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Quaid, this film tells the story of Santa Anna's siege of the Alamo and the battle for Texan independence. We also have a crash course on the history of the state of Texas, and the events leading up to the titular event. So. . . Remember the Alamo!  . . . and also that there's no basement there. . .

Genesis 32:24-31 | YOUR BREAKING POINT — What YOU Fear Most… Isn't Your Greatest BattleThe thing YOU are most afraid of is not the real battle. It feels like it is. It has YOUR attention, YOUR sleepless nights, YOUR knot in the stomach every time YOU think about tomorrow. YOU have been bracing for it, preparing for it, praying about it — convinced that if YOU can just survive that one thing, YOU will finally be okay. But Genesis 32 reveals something almost no one sees coming: the battle YOU are staring at is not the one that is actually about to change YOU.Because on the night before the thing he feared most, this man ended up completely alone.Everyone he loved had been sent ahead. The noise was gone. The distractions were gone. And in that silence — in the dark, with no one left to perform for and nothing left to hide behind — something happened that had nothing to do with the enemy he had been dreading for twenty years.Someone met him there. And what took place between them lasted all night — a struggle so intense, so personal, so unlike anything he expected, that by the time the sun came up, he was not the same person who had walked into that night. Not because he lost. Because of what it cost him to win. Here is what most people miss. There was a single moment in that struggle — one touch — that changed everything in an instant. It did not end the fight. It marked him. And he walked away from that night carrying something in his body for the rest of his life that told the story of what happened when no one was watching. What was touched, and why, is the heart of this entire message. And there is more. Before it was over, he said something — a demand, a refusal, a decision not to let go — that most people are too proud, too tired, or too afraid to ever say. And the moment he said it, he was given something he had spent his entire life chasing the wrong way.A new name. A new identity. A permanent change. But the reason it happened — the thing that had to break in him first before any of it could — is the part YOU have to hear for yourself. Because YOUR breaking point may not be YOUR ending. It may be the exact place YOU have been trying to avoid, when it was always the place YOU were meant to be changed.Press play — because what YOU fear most is not YOUR greatest battle. This message will show YOU what the real one is, and what is waiting for YOU on the other side of the night YOU thought would break YOU.Thank you for joining me today. America's top-selling economics textbook defines communism as "the most benevolent form of economic system." That single sentence sums up why Texas State Board of Education members Julie Pickren and Brandon Hall asked PJTN president Laurie Cardoza-Moore to testify as they fought a terror-linked campaign to reshape how children learn about Israel, Judaism, and American history. In this webinar, Laurie sits down with Pickren, Hall, and PJTN senior academic fellow Dr. Sandra Alfonsi to unpack what the board won, what's still ahead when high school standards return to a vote in September, and why what happens in Texas doesn't stay in Texas — it shapes curriculum for 25 other states and over 30 million schoolchildren. The conversation also turns to New York's new mayor, with Dr. Alfonsi making the case that "Commie Mamdani" undersells the real ideology at work. This is a conversation about truth in the classroom, the return of the Bible to instructional materials, and the biblical responsibility to make sure the next generation is taught to stand with Israel, not against it.Follow, share, and support PJTN's mission at PJTN.org.0:00 They Renamed Communism in Textbooks0:42 Meet PJTN and Laurie Cardoza-Moore3:20 Inside the Texas TEKS Standards Hearing7:47 Julie Pickren on Defeating CAIR's Amendments11:57 Why High School Standards Got Delayed17:59 Brandon Hall on Putting the Bible Back in Schools25:12 Communism 101: Who Controls Your Child30:20 Q&A: Banning CAIR From Testifying36:11 Free Bluebonnet Curriculum for Every State40:57 How the New Standards Will Be Enforced45:48 Rising Antisemitism and "Commie Mamdani"52:12 Dr. Alfonsi: Communism as a Vehicle for Islamism55:28 Erasing Jewish History From Textbooks1:07:01 Closing Thoughts and How to Get InvolvedDon't forget to subscribe, rate, and share to help us equip more Christians to stand with Israel and fight antisemitism.✨ Stay connected with PJTN! ✨
