Kontakt: BeijingBriefing@gmail.com Hosted on Acast. Tu & Lei start out this week's pod going over January sales numbers which have been slow to trickle in. They move on to a discussion about BYD & Tesla and how they could get to their 2022 sales targets. With the Beijing winter Olympics going on, the news cycle in China for the EV/AV space is a bit slow but Tu & Lei believe this to also be the calm before the Beijing Auto Show storm. With 11 weeks until the show, they both expect announcements to begin to increase significantly leading up to the show.Tu talks about how to really measure strength when looking at 2022 by looking at an automaker's growth vs. the market growth. The way to measure individual OEMs' success is by looking at them compared their contemporaries in the same segment. Tu & Lei move the discussion to the latest China EVs & More MAX episode with Maxwell Zhou, CEO of DeepRoute. They end the pod talking about the MOBILIT/E Conference that Sino Auto Insights co-organized and kicks off this week. VOLVO SALES WILL BE 10 PER CENT ELECTRIC CARS IN 2022 | AUTO EXPRESS - Volvo expects one in 10 of the cars it sells in 2022 to be pure electric, almost doubling the percentage share of zero-emissions vehicles it sold in the final quarter of last year. - The Swedish brand's round-up of financial results revealed that amid a record year for revenue, 34 per cent of Volvo's sales in Q4 2021 were of chargeable vehicles - and six per cent were cars without a combustion engine altogether. - Volvo's outgoing CEO Hakan Samuelsson said the firm is “on track” to be fully electric by 2030, despite the still-modest proportion of EV sales. The identically powered and similarly shaped ID 5 GTX, meanwhile, manages 296 miles per charge. - Skoda says the sporty vRS can be charged at rates of up to 135kW Original Source : https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-2022-skoda-enyaq-coup%C3%A9-iv-vrs-sale-%C2%A351885 THE FORD F-150 LIGHTNING HAULS MORE THAN THE CHEVY SILVERADO EV | MUSCLE CARS AND TRUCKS - he Ford F-150 Lightning with the larger 131-kWh battery pack weighs less than one of its biggest rivals, the Rivian R1T, when equipped with its highest-capacity battery pack. The total curb weight of the F-150 Lightning is a not-unreasonable 6,590 pounds, making it an absolute featherweight next to the 9,046-pound GMC Hummer EV - That's according to Ford's eSourceBook for the F-150 Lightning, which was posted by the folks at the F150gen14 forum. - the Rivian R1T's biggest battery pack is 180 kWh to the Lightning's 131 kWh. Still, the Ford F-150 Lightning's relatively low curb weight (for a battery-electric pickup) should have a positive impact in a number of areas, like its acceleration, braking, and handling. - The base F-150 Lightning's 2,000-pound payload rating is nothing to sneeze at, and it's nearly 54 percent more than the Silverado EV RST · Original Source : https://www.musclecarsandtrucks.com/ford-f-150-lightning-weighs-less-than-a-rivian-hauls-more-than-a-silverado-ev/ XPENG SAID TO START G9 PRE-SALES IN APRIL, FIRST DELIVERIES IN AUG AT EARLIEST - CNEVPOST - XPeng will open pre-sales for its flagship SUV G9 at the 2022 Beijing Auto Show in April and first deliveries will begin as early as the end of August, according to a local media report. - The XPeng G9, the fourth model of XPeng and the first to be released after its brand refresh, was unveiled on November 19 last year during the Guangzhou Auto Show. The 2014 Beijing International Automobile Exhibition is currently being held for the 13th year. The Exhibition this year is being held at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. The exhibition has out done itself in terms of size this year, covering 230 thousand square meters, which is the size of 30 football fields. The auto show has attracted a record 118 new models making their global debut this year. I have just arrived outside the Auto Show. There are a lot of people walking towards the main door and the roads are jam packed. I am now going to walk inside and bask in the excitement. I am now in the Mercedes section of the exhibition. If I remember correctly, this is one of the favorite cars of top gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson. I am now looking at the SL 350, which is a Master piece. The inside of the Car is intuitive, electronically advanced, posh and sleek. The boot extends out so you can fit a lot of stuff in there. Then there is the way it looks, the presentation, the aesthetic quality of the Car. The aesthetic qualities of this Machine are incredible. It is a sporty ostentatious device that just looks superb. The Mercedes SL series have been manufactured since 1954. The designation SL derives from the German Sport Leicht, or Sport Lightweight. The SL 350 was actually originally produced in 2012 but has since been refined. It weighs about 1,600+ KG and has over 300 horse power. I have just arrived at Chevrolet's Exhibition. They are not only advertising their cars, but they are coupling this with an advertisement for their upcoming Transformers film. I am now looking at the Iconic Yellow Camero, which is of course bumble-bee in the Transformers movies. The new transformers film will be starring Mark Walberg and it has been also heavily advertised at the auto exhibition. I am now looking at another section of the Beijing Auto Show. This is the drift section. There are two yellow Ford ST's drifting around each other. There are also other cars going up and down rollercoasters. There is more to the exhibition than just showing off pretty cars and girls dancing. They are really showing what these cars can do. It is incredible watching these cars drift around each other and going up ramps. They are just normal cars as well; cars that I never imagined would be able to handle that kind of pressure. I am now at the Fiat presentation and am going to listen in on speech being given by their professional spokesman. "In Italy, we believe that a strong car design can lead to a better life. Fiat already has a history of more than 115 years. Our latest Fiat model is sure to bring you more pleasure than ever before. Italian Car designs are perfectionists strive to top their own standards. The new original design of the new Fiat SUV is very comfortable for the driver. It was designed with a passion. I honestly hope everyone here today enjoys looking at all the latest cars by Fiat". Enjoying a posh car in Beijing is a pipe dream for many people. Not only were many of the cars at the auto exhibition ridiculously expensive but it is increasingly difficult to drive in Beijing due to congested roads and restrictions put on first time car buyers. It was nice to step in to the fantasy world at the Auto Exhibition and just admire all the beautiful vehicles that were displayed. The event will be open from the 21-29 April 2014. For Studio+, I'm Sam Duckett.
With MORE than 2000 auto companies, 11-hundred vehicles and a hundred world premiers, the Beijing Auto Show is China's auto market in a nutshell, at the China International Exhibition Center. The phrase "Market Penetration" is constantly on the lips of domestic carmakers and their international counterparts alike. Du Guozhong is a public relations manager at Chinese manufacturer BYD. "As joint venture brands and their domestic self-owned brands lower their product prices and penetrate deeper into second and third-tier markets, China's own domestic brands are meeting tough competition. So our market share is sliding downwards in general." Du's company is trying to fight back with unique products that meet the demands of average consumers. "The key is to develop our own techniques and to offer unique products. I mean we can always learn from our competitors, but we've got to have some highlights of our own. We'll rely on science and technology to improve the consumer experience." Certainly, going "geek" with technology is seen as one way to succeed in a highly-industrial business. But there are others who dare take a risk to build up a name. Zeng Yehui from GAC Gonow Auto boasts "unprecedented service". "Our clients can return their cars for any or no reason within 7 days of purchase. So far, GAC Gonow is the only company that supports returning without reason. And clients who buy our Xinglang model during a promotion period can enjoy free maintenance till the car becomes obsolete. We are the first carmaker to guarantee that service." With enough commitment to customer service, China's domestic brands might just make a breakthrough. But Wuhu-based Chery seems keen on winning the battle when it comes to personal tastes. Former Porsche designer Hakan Saracoglu now leads their design team. "And we are an international team, a domestic team of international influence. My job is really to show possibilities; it is the designers themselves, the young creative Chinese designers putting these things on the paper. I can take their creativity, and put it into a real car to show them how to build a car, but the creativity comes from those guys, who can do it better than them?" Decades ago, when China signed the treaty to enter the WTO, people worried about Chinese carmakers being knocked out by competitive foreign brands. Today, still, no one can forsee the futures of those automakers, but now at least some of them are trying their best to enjoy the ride. For CRI and China.com, I'm Ding Lulu.
Starting from today, we'll bring you a series of reports on the 2014 Beijing Auto Show, which officially kicks off today. Mercedes Benz has unveiled its new models including CLA-class and C-class long-wheelbase models, drawing hot attention from the Chinese media and car buyers over the weekend. CRI's Liu Min has talked with Nicholas Speeks, President and CEO of Beijing Mercedes-Benz Sales Service at the Auto Show. Let's find out more. Q1. At the just concluded new model launching ceremony, we've seen the debut of the brand new C-class long-wheelbase, and it was quite impressive. Would you please tell us more about what Mercedes Benz has brought to the 2014 Beijing Auto Show?
