The co-authors of "Letters in Black and White" found common ground in their frustration with America's polarized racial discourse. Our conversation explored provocative ideas like "Blackness as oppression"—a concept that shook Wink's foundational beliefs about identity—and Jen's jarring return to an America where diversity training often stifled genuine dialogue. We challenged simplistic narratives of "privilege," examined the controversial topic of reparations (with Wink offering a compelling case for Black agency over victimhood), and questioned how society's racial scripts influence our thinking. Throughout our discussion, we highlighted the power of curiosity and personal storytelling to bridge seemingly insurmountable divides—inviting listeners to reconsider their own perspectives on race and identity in America.Winkfield Twyman and Jennifer Richmond are co-authors of Letters in Black and White: A New Correspondence on Race in America.A former law professor and current author, Winkfield (Wink) Franklin Twyman, Jr. is a southern writer from a small-town suburb outside of Richmond, Virginia. In this episode of Navigating Major Programmes, Riccardo Cosentino sits down with fellow Oxford's Saïd Business School alumnus, Shawn Modar, to discuss why mega projects go wrong and what can be done contractually to avoid failure. The pair delve into the role psychological contracts play in the Iron Triangle. Plus, Shawn shares his Oxford dissertation findings, including a prenuptial agreement analogy you don't want to miss. “One of the interesting realizations that I had during this process is: Why would somebody intentionally not comply with their contract, knowing all those legal risks that are out there? And what I realized is when they're not complying with that written contract, they're actually complying with their psychological contract.” – Shawn ModarShawn Modar has more than 23 years of experience in the engineering and construction industry, with the majority of that time being focused on construction claim analysis and dispute resolution. His primary focus is assisting clients in their efforts to substantiate or defend against claims for the recovery of time and additional costs, to avoid formal disputes, and to make informed decisions that result in equitable resolutions. Key Takeaways:The risk of acting like something you're not: Relational contracts versus traditional contractsThe truth behind intentional noncompliance in megaprojectsThe benefits and downfalls of psychological contracts If you enjoyed this episode, make sure and give us a five star rating and leave us a review on iTunes, Podcast Addict, Podchaser or Castbox. The conversation doesn't stop here—connect and converse with our community via LinkedIn:Follow Shawn Modar on LinkedInFollow Navigating Major Programmes on LinkedInFollow Riccardo Cosentino on LinkedInRead Riccardo's latest at wwww.riccardocosentino.com Music: "A New Tomorrow" by Chordial Music. In this episode, Neil interviews his long-time mentor Ron Forlee about his 43 year career in property across Australia, Asia, and Africa. Ron shares insights from his experience in development, consulting, and applying new technologies like AI and blockchain. He discusses the importance of affordable housing and sustainability, and how concepts like co-living aim to address these issues. Ron also talks about his work with EOIR International and the projects they are exploring with AI, like their Project IQ platform. Tune in to hear Ron's fascinating journey and vision for how technology can revolutionize the real estate industry. Key takeaways from the podcast: Ron Forlee has over 43 years of experience in the property industry across various roles in development, consulting and mentoring. Affordable housing and sustainability have always been important focus areas for Ron throughout his career. New technologies like AI, blockchain and ESG reporting can transform the real estate industry by driving efficiencies and meeting sustainability goals. Concepts like co-living aim to improve affordability and sense of community through collaborative housing models. Green data centers powered by renewable energy could decentralize infrastructure from large centralized facilities. Tools like Ron's "My Home AI" chatbot are being developed to help first home buyers and investors navigate the property market. While cities may grow denser, Perth is unlikely to reach Hong Kong levels of density due to Australia's land availability and planning regulations. Satellite towns have potential to evolve into cities over time based on population shifts and growth in employment opportunities. Ron detailed his fascinating career journey, from starting his architectural practice in South Africa to consulting on major projects in China and Vietnam. He discussed the challenges of international work and his return focus to Australia. Ron also works closely with CORE Living on applying new technologies like AI and blockchain to the industry. When asked about specific projects, Ron described a shopping center in South Africa and master planning technology parks in China. He stressed the importance of doing thorough research to understand market demand. Ron has also written books and created online courses on development and investment coaching. The discussion dove into topics like smart communities and how concepts like co-living aim to improve affordability and sense of community. Ron explained his vision for green data centers powered by renewable energy. He believes decentralizing data infrastructure can drive greater efficiencies. CORE Living aims to implement ESG principles and AI into their projects. Ron shared details on tools like his "My Home AI" chatbot designed to help first home buyers and investors. He believes AI can streamline traditionally manual property management tasks. As for the future of cities, Ron doesn't foresee Perth becoming as dense as Hong Kong due to land availability. Satellite towns may grow into cities over time based on demand and population shifts. The property industry will surely continue evolving with new technologies. Our latest episode is with Amanda Brondy, Vice President of International Projects at the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA). Together, we discuss how the work of GCCA contributes to FLW reduction, the importance of investing in climate-smart cold chain in emerging countries, and the opportunities for collaboration between cold chain companies and food banks to reduce FLW.Over one-third of the world's food is lost or wasted, undermining efforts to end hunger and malnutrition while contributing 8 to 10 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. In low- and middle-income countries, over 40 percent of food loss occurs before a crop even makes it to market, whether due to inadequate storage, pests or microbes, spoilage, spillage in transport or otherwise. Eliminating food loss and waste (FLW) would provide enough food to feed two billion people, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Addressing FLW is critical to global food security, nutrition and climate change mitigation, with climate-smart cold chain playing an important role in these efforts. In order to raise awareness, exchange information and share success stories, USAID's Food Loss and Waste Community of Practice created the USAID Kitchen Sink Food Loss and Waste Podcast. Our goal is to share monthly, bite-sized episodes that highlight the approaches USAID and the U.S. government are taking to address FLW. We hope these episodes provide a valuable resource for those interested in why we should care about FLW and how we can reduce it. You can subscribe to receive the latest episodes of USAID's Kitchen Sink and listen to our episodes on the platform of your choice: Apple, Spotify, and more! Video recordings of the episodes are available on YouTube. Check in every month for new episodes as global experts discuss a range of issues about FLW and methane emissions - from the critical role of youth to the staggering economic costs - and learn about specific ways that USAID is tackling FLW around the world. If you have an idea for an episode topic you'd like to see featured or if you would like to participate in an episode of USAID's Kitchen Sink, please reach out to Nika Larian (nlarian@usaid.gov).There's no time to waste!

This is the first edition of The Global Credit Union Podcast – a new initiative of World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU). This new monthly podcast is the only one that will focus on the international credit union and financial cooperative movement. We started this podcast to provide the international credit union community with an in-depth look at some of the interesting and important stories we have to tell here at WOCCU, particularly in the areas of International Advocacy, International Projects, Education and Networking, and Digital Transformation. But we will also be telling your stories about the work credit unions across the world are doing on behalf of their members. We start by looking back on the tenure of our soon-to-be outgoing President and CEO Brian Branch. He will be retiring in July 2021, after more than 30 years with WOCCU – the last 10 as the leader of our organization. He talks about starting his work at WOCCU during the early 1990s when civil wars were raging in Central America and communism was ending in Eastern Europe - and ending it during a pandemic that is causing global upheaval. During those crises and all the ones in between, Branch explains how credit unions have been there for their members - and how World Council of Credit Unions has continued to find new ways to help them strengthen, innovate and grow. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/woccu/support

Joshua and Paul have Dan from New York Wolves back on the show, for a look at what went wrong during Sunday's defeat at Leicester. Ryan's ‘Coach's Corner' is a particularly revealing focus on an important area that Podence needs to develop. We get a few of our listeners joining in with a new segment, Social Shoutout! A major highlight of this week's show is the interview with Joe Hunt, who is the International Projects Manager at Wolves. It's an insightful peak behind the curtain of the depth that goes in to developing the Club overseas and maximizing our popularity in emerging markets. It's well worth a listen, and if Joe's scope of works indicates that there's the possibility that you may be able to collaborate on projects together if you're involved in organized youth soccer or coaching at a club, then he encourages you to get in touch via email at joehunt@wolves.co.uk. As usual, ‘Like' us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and send us your ‘No Stupid Questions' to be featured on the following show. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wlwpod/support

Typically this would involve the local Salvation Army setting up a response which would be supported by other Salvation Army territories through funding and technical support. What about a global pandemic, when every country is dealing with it on their own? Listen to this conversation with Damaris Frick (Emergencies Coordinator at IHQ) as she explains how The Salvation Army is responding and some of the key lessons we can take with us when we come out on the other side!Host: Ben Gilbert (Team Leader for International Projects, UKI Territory)Guest: Damaris Frick (Deputy Emergency Coordinator, International Headquarters)Music: Wesley Carrol Hosted on Acast.
