In this episode of the Post Status Happiness Hour, host Michelle Frechette interviews Jono Alderson, an independent technical SEO consultant and WordPress advocate. Jono shares his journey of creating and submitting his first plugin to the WordPress repository, focusing on image optimization for website performance. They discuss the complexities of managing multiple image sizes in WordPress and how Jono's plugin generates images on-the-fly using services like Cloudflare, reducing server load and improving performance. The conversation also covers the environmental impact of web hosting, Jono's background, and his experience with AI-assisted coding.Top Takeaways:Image Optimization Plugin for WordPress:Jono Alderson's plugin focuses on solving WordPress image optimization issues by addressing the inefficiencies in how images are handled. WordPress often generates unnecessary image sizes, which leads to slower load times and inefficient storage use. His plugin dynamically generates the appropriately sized images for each device, improving both website performance and storage efficiency. By eliminating the need for WordPress to create multiple versions of images, the plugin optimizes the backend and frontend performance of a website.Environmental Impact of Image Management: The discussion highlights the environmental impact of inefficient image management. Storing and serving large or redundant images increases the carbon footprint due to the energy used in data centers and transmission networks. Optimizing images and reducing excess storage can help lower this impact, making even small changes in image management significant for sustainability.Jono Alderson's Plugin Submission Experience: Jono Alderson shared his experience submitting a plugin to WordPress, noting initial nervousness due to his self-taught background. After carefully following guidelines, the submission went smoothly, with only minor issues to address. Once live, Jono quickly fixed bugs and found updating easier with practice.Mentioned In The Show:YoastCloudflareWooCommerceGravity FormsSlackWhatsAppFacebookGoogle DiscoverFortniteHello BeautifulGitHubCursorJonoAlderson.com

Behind the Scenes of Live Image Optimization   Host: Danny McMillan Guests: Dorian, Sim, Andri   This MIM Live session explores image optimisation and its impact on product visibility and customer engagement. Danny McMillan and the team work with Dorian to refine visual assets in real-time, showcasing the iterative process of creating compelling e-commerce imagery. Key Highlights: 1. Hydrogen Peroxide and Product Messaging The discussion emphasizes the importance of ingredient transparency in product imagery, suggesting that highlighting ingredients like hydrogen peroxide can build trust and credibility. Andri highlights the challenge of balancing safety with performance claims, questioning whether to emphasize less invasive formulas or scientific effectiveness. Dorian agrees on the need for clarity, stating that a certain formula can be featured in the design to connect with the target audience. 2. Results-Oriented Copywriting Sim and the team discuss how timelines influence buyer decisions, emphasising that claims like “8x shades whiter” need a defined timeframe to increase credibility. Catchy phrasing like "Fast results in just 14 days" emerged as a strong contender, with Andri explaining, "14 days sounds shorter and less intimidating than two weeks—it's worth testing." 3. Award-Winning Trust Signals Integrating awards or certifications into packaging was explored. Andri suggested, “Adding ‘Award-Winning Formula' subtly elevates the product, making competitors look less trustworthy.” Danny adds, "It's about stating the obvious but making it compelling. Why does the formula win awards? That's the narrative buyers want." 4. Aesthetic Tweaks and Visual Testing A debate arose over using before-and-after images, with concerns about aesthetics and customer perception. Danny noted, "Yellow teeth might show results but could deter initial impressions." Dorian highlighted the squint test, zooming out to assess prominent elements like colors and text. Key points included: Bright colors (e.g., reds or blues) often outperform pastels. Highlighting "Award-Winning" in bold, contrasting circles can attract attention while staying professional. 5. Iteration Through Data The team emphasised the importance of testing hypotheses. As Dorian stated, "The moment I feel confident with a design is when I'm ready to spend $100 to test it on ProductPinion or similar platforms." The session concluded with multiple design iterations, balancing brand presence, messaging clarity, and aesthetic appeal. Actionable Takeaways: Test visual prominence: Verify bold claims like "Award-Winning" align with customer expectations. Iterate designs with context: Use competition-aware adjustments like standout colors or trust signals. Keep numbers clean and clear: Short timelines and concise claims enhance psychological impact. Despite their superior quality, they often fall behind the top two Chinese competitors due to pricing. One significant aspect of After Inked is that they were the main featured brand on the Ink Masters show. However, our client was hesitant to use the Ink Masters logo or name on the main image because they wanted to be recognized as “After Inked” rather than the brand from “Ink Masters.”After discussing this with Steven Pope, he added both images to a PickFu A/B test. In just a few minutes, we saw that 73% of customers preferred the main image with the Ink Masters logo.We presented these results to the client, and she finally approved the use of the Ink Masters logo.Having ideas is really great but having data and numbers to back up our ideas is the best!→ Use Data Dive with code MAG for exclusive savings!↳ https://2.datadive.tools/subscription/subscribe?ref=otkxnwu&coupon=MAG-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Join My Amazon Guy on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/28605816/Follow us:Twitter: https://twitter.com/myamazonguyInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/stevenpopemag/Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/myamazonguys/Please subscribe to the podcast at: https://podcast.myamazonguy.comApple Podcast:  https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/my-amazon-guy/id1501974229Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4A5ASHGGfr6s4wWNQIqyVwTimestamps:0:00 - Introduction0:15 - Identifying Main Competitors0:29 - Comparing Product Pricing and Quality0:55 - Challenges in Competing on Price1:00 - Improving Product Reviews and Rankings1:04 - Feedback on Listing Design1:13 - Suggestions for Main Image Redesign1:31 - Adjusting Fonts for Better Readability1:47 - Running A/B Tests with PickFu2:10 - Featuring Product on Master Show2:25 - Decisions on Design and A/B Testing2:44 - Importance of Target Demographics2:59 - Running A/B Tests for Design Choices3:05 - Reviewing A/B Test Results3:13 - Strategies to Compete with Popular Brands3:23 - Optimizing White Space in Images3:28 - Adding Tattoo Images to Main Listings3:37 - Exploring Competitor Strategies3:49 - Testing New Design IdeasSupport the Show.

The 92 Report

Will Bachman is hosting a conversation with Jamylle Carter, a member of the Harvard and Radcliffe class of 1992. Jamylle graduated from Harvard with a degree in mathematics and went on to complete a PhD in math from UCLA. After UCLA, she also held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications in the University of Minnesota.  Math Think Tanks and Researching Algorithms Will and Jamylle had a conversation about math think tanks, in which Jamylle described her experience. She had spent four years in a math think tank at a university, and then another four years at a Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley. Jamylle fell in love with the Bay Area and decided to stay, working as an adjunct professor, running a Math Circle and working at a science museum in San Francisco. She has been a math professor at Diablo Valley College since 2009. Jamylle explained that a math think tank is a place funded by the National Science Foundation and other private funders for mathematicians to leave their university appointments and focus on their research with other people in the field. Jamylle's research was applied math, and it was for image processing. Jamylle was researching a new algorithm to solve a mathematical problem. The problem was related to blurring or noise in an image, and the goal was to approximate the original picture as closely as possible. She was looking at optimization methods, which are mathematical techniques that can find the best answer to a problem.   Teaching Math in the Math Circle Program Jamylle then went on to explain a math circle she organized for middle school kids. The math circle was inspired by a program from Eastern Europe that was designed to expose kids to higher level math. The math circle would also give kids a chance to struggle with a problem and get excited about learning. Jamylle learned more about the program while at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute. In 2007-2008, the MSRI sponsored a Berkeley Math Circle for the children of professors and wealthy families. Seeing the need for a Math Circle for a different demographic, Jamylle proposed an Oakland Math Circle for black middle school students in order to challenge the idea that black people can't like math. With the help of the Exploratorium, the Institute for the Advanced Study of Black Family Life and Culture, and the Museum of African American Technology, she was able to get grants totaling $8,000 to run the Oakland Math Circle. The Math Circle ran hands-on activities to engage students, teaching them that it was okay to be both black and like math. She taught all the modules, did the recruitment and covered topics such as rocket science, probability and music and math. She also mentioned that in minoritized spaces, students tend to work alone, which can be due to racism, fear of being too nerdy, or fear that they won't be seen as capable due to their race. Carter's motivation for starting the Math Circle program was to provide a space where Black kids could come together and enjoy doing math without such pressures. Deborah Hughes Hallett was a Harvard graduate student who eventually became faculty in the Harvard Math Department. She never earned her doctorate,  and unfortunately the math department still never treated her like real faculty. She was also at the forefront of the calculus reform movement and wrote textbooks to help teach the subject.  Deb was an important figure in the Math Department, providing guidance and support to students in need and advocating for reform in the subject.  Designing a New Math Curriculum Jamylle and Will discussed math education and its importance. Will then asked about how to build a high school math curriculum from the ground up. Jamylle believes that everyone should have a solid background in arithmetic, such as fractions, decimals, and percentages. She also suggests introducing courses on probability, statistics, computer science, and using spreadsheets. Additionally, she wants to focus on dimensional analysis and number sense in order to help students become more comfortable with math. Finally, she believes it's equally important to teach math in a way that avoids creating math phobias and traumas, and to make sure teachers are supported and not overworked.  Jamylle talks about the courses and professors that have had an impact on her life. Carter starts by talking about her undergraduate advisor Deborah Hughes Hallett, who she credits with helping her to graduate. A class that stood out was music 51, a year long music theory course. And in the episode no. 33 of "Voice of Digital Abhi", I will share with you what is On-Page SEO and the 13 Ranking Factors of On-Page Optimization. - In this episode, I have shared: (00:00) Intro (00:26) What is On Page SEO? (01:10) Why On Page SEO is important? (01:48) Ranking Factors (02:12) Focus Keyword (03:02) Title Tag (03:28) Meta Description (04:06) URL of the Page (04:32) Content of the Page (05:18) Heading Tags (05:56) Page Speed (06:36) Image Optimization (07:02) Alt tag (07:18) Internal and External Links (07:58) Anchor Text (08:32) Mobile Responsive Website - What is On-Page SEO? It is a practice where we optimize the webpages of our website in order to rank higher in search engines. In this, we optimize both the content and code of the page. But what is the need for On-Page optimization? Why is it important? The thing is that search engines want to provide the best experience to their users. And in order to fulfill that need, they need to understand the content of the pages which they are showing in the search results. And On-Page SEO helps search engines to understand the relevancy of the content of your page. So, a better-optimized page means a better chance to resolve the user’s search query. It also means that if a user visits your page, he or she is going to have a good user experience. - Watch this episode on YouTube: What is On-page SEO? | 13 Ranking Factors of On-Page Optimization - https://youtu.be/rZzwtj6YDmw - Links to my Social Profiles: Blog: https://digitalabhi.com/blog/ Instagram: https://instagram.com/digitalabhi_ YouTube: https://youtube.com/c/digitalabhi/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/digitalabhi__ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/digitalabhi0/ Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/digitalabhi0/ Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/722817831173075/ Quora: https://www.quora.com/profile/Abhishek-Sharma-4495 - Connect with me socially so that I can help you out there also with queries related to Digital Marketing. Main Topic: Websites for Photographers Today we’re talking about websites for photographers. I wanted to go through a few items and I’m glad you’re here to discuss these things with me. First off, I want to cover just some bullet point items of what types of sections does a photographer need on their website.  Start with WHY it’s important to have a website or online presence before getting into nitty gritty. Example. If I hear or find a photographer I like, I’ll look him/her online and if they don’t have a website or a working website or a website that has poor usability I’ll kinda not bother.  Harsh but you need a web presence today. Also no reason even the most tech illiterate person cannot have an online portfolio and presence. What does your website need: Your website should not be your life story.  No one has time or the attention span today. You are a photographer, show me your work, and then if I’m interested I’ll read more about what you do and your philosophies. Too Harsh?? (no) The opposite is sometimes true, I’ll read something really profound someone wrote on the subject of photography. Then I go see their work and it;s not very good. Just make sure your work speaks as loud as your words. Photos Duh :) About Page + Artist statement or vision A way to contact or email the photographer, what’s your opinion on how to best achieve this? On the about page, on a separate page, or in a sidebar or the footer? Contact page, plug-in if using WP Your own suggestions, feel free to intersperse them here. Gallery page(s) Blog? Anything else? E-commerce for prints etc...  Let’s talk about a few hosting types that photographers can use to host their websites (feel free to expand this list and/or expand each individual bullet item. Whatever you add, please add in green) Super easy no effort to custom websites. Instagram / Facebook - FREE Less tech - Drag and Drop $$ - $$$ Squarespace.com - Not free Zenfolio.com - Not free portfolio.adobe.com/photography - Not free or free if you have Adobe CC already www.photoshelter.com - Not free Pixieset.com - Not free Smugmug.com - Not free Visualsociety.com More tech involved $ Wix.com - Free or not free Weebly.com - Not free or not free Wordpress.com/Wordpress.org - Free but you need hosting + theme Drag and Drop WP builder Very involved $$$$$ Custom-coded WP or HTML site - Definitely not free Drag and drop vs WP sites. I’m a big fan of Wordpress.org sites. Let’s talk a bit about that for a moment. Confusion with wordpress.com sites Wordpress.org vs Wordpress.com sites) Server  Domain (ie google domains) Technical know-how Basic needs to host a site C-Panel server admin software makes life very easy. (I use Kinsta for my hosting, no C-Panel but still a very convenient way to manage a WP site) Plugins extend functionality of the site Themes control the look of the site. If you “build it right” you should (theoretically) be able to swap themes like you do a pair of socks. You have the same structure going in to it but a different look on the outside. Sometimes themes behave more like plugins though and can get tied in to your content as well. I don’t like those types of themes. Page builders make designing a site a lot easier, just another piece of software to learn though. Bugs to squash with WP sites Anything else Keep on top of WP, WP, theme and Plug-in updates. Otherwise risk of site being compromised. Big headaches. Other thoughts that need to be covered when dealing with websites for photographers. What images to put on your website? Cherry pick your images. Pick the best of the best. I don’t need to see every picture you’ve ever taken. It’s not about showing 10,000 images on your website. Quality not Quantity. You want the viewer to see a handful of your images and say, I get who this photographer is FInding a niche. If you want to be a landscape photographer show me your landscape work not your wedding, studio portraits, or sports action.  If you want to show images outside your niche, use FB, Twitter or other social media for this. Show unique images. What does that mean? Google Horseshoe Bend - pages and pages of sameness. If you want to stand out, show images that are unique and make the viewer say, hmm. I’ve never seen that angle before. Make your website look good. If you don’t know what good is, ask someone who has a good eye for design. Tip of the Week. Brent: Experiment with the export settings in Lightroom and be sure to export using sRGB when saving out for the web. Guest: The best place to shoot is exactly where you are, especially true in today’s environment. Below are the tips she discussed or if you want to go straight to this source you can go to www.sarahvanmarketing.com She is also '' Sarah Van Marketing '' on all social media platforms 1.) Start Title Tag with your keyword. Your title tag is the most important on page SEO factor. The closer the keyword is to the beginning of the title tag, the more weight it has with search engines. 2.) Leverage SEO friendly URLs. Make your urls short and keyword rich. Focus on keeping it on an Edmonton or Author related keywords. Creating a blog tab and making yourself a source of knowledge would do wonders for your SEO. Having a Professional Contacts tab would allow you to endorse your partners. 3.) Add Modifiers to your titles. Tags like 2019 or Best or Edmonton or YEG. 4.) Wrap your Title in a . The h1 tag is your headline tag. Most CMS’s (Wordpress) automatically add the h1 tag to your blog post title. Some themes override this setting. Check your sites code to make sure your title gets the h1 love. Author in Edmonton 5.) Dazzle with Multimedia. Add new images on your site. They should also link through to the respective pages on your site. i.e. Engaging images, videos, and diagrams can reduce your bounce rate and increase time on site. 6.) Wrap Subheadings in . Include your target keywords in that heading. Mental Health in Edmonton 7.) Drop your keywords in the first 100 words in the article. Keep it rich. Mention Edmonton Mental Health, YEG Content Consultant, etc. 8.) Use Outbound links. Outbound links help Google decide what your pages topic is and has you show up in relative content requests. Outbound links will help your Google ranking. You can use some links on your Professional Contacts Page. 9.) Use Internal Links. All your images should be linked to the same respective pages. 10.) Boost Site Speed. Google uses page speed as a ranking signal. It should not take longer than 3 seconds to load. Compressed images will improve your load time. Check your hosting. Perhaps you can get a faster host. 11.) Sprinkle in LSI Keywords. (Latent Semantic Indexing) Use synonyms to increase your pages Google relevancy and quality. Add it to your write ups, 3 LSI keywords every 1000 words. We should create a list. 12.) Image Optimization. Make sure all your new compressed images contain those target keywords. For example, label the image as AuthorInEdmonton.jpg TopAuthorConsultantinEdmonton.png 13.) Use Social Sharing Buttons. Social shares generate more eyeballs on your content. Social Sharing Buttons can increase your sharing by 700%. You should share from these buttons as well to help raise your numbers! Perhaps the Buttons can be larger and more prominent. Have them at the top of your page rather than the bottom. 14.) Post Long Content. SEO adage of length is strength. Longer content ranks significantly higher on Googles first page. When rewriting the content on your website, go into depth. Talk about each service. Use every Author and Mental Health related keyword you can think of. You should start a list. 15.) Boost Dwell Time. If someone hits the back button immediately upon landing on your site’s page, it shows Google that you have a low dwell time. This is an indicator of a low-quality site. Writing long engaging content will keep viewers on your site longer.
