Premiering May of 2023, "Silo," the new sci-fi Apple TV+ series that launched as the highest-rated drama debut on the platform, defies what you think it is. It is cerebral, bold science fiction, excitedly blending elements of murder mystery, western, and dystopian conspiracy with a post-apocalyptic world, and Rebecca Ferguson leads as a reluctant gearhead sheriff with an attitude problem. I recently had the chance to do a deep-dive with many on the production team, talking with screenwriter Graham Yost, director Morten Tyldum, cinematographer Mark Patten, composer Atli Örvarsson, and production designer Gavin Bocquet on what went into making this beautiful, compelling sci-fi mystery-drama. Please take a listen and be sure to check out "Silo," which is now available to stream on Apple TV+ and is up for your consideration in all eligible Emmy categories. Enjoy! DYF Sinema Kulübü'nün beşinci buluşmasında 2015 yılı yapımı Morten Tyldum'ın yönetmenliğini yaptığı The Imitation Game Enigma adlı filmini konuştuk. Turing'in her şeyi kendi başına çözdüğü izlenimini alıyorsunuz. Alan Mathison Turing is much more than the protagonist of Morten Tyldum's American blockbuster The Imitation Game. While Turing is the mathematician best known for cracking the code of the German Enigma machine that the Wehrmacht used to send and receive encrypted messages during World War II, he is also considered by many to be the father of the computer and artificial intelligence. ROBERTA, the podcast: We are specialists in artificial intelligence (AI) and we want to share our passion with you. With this podcast Roberta, in honour of Roberta Wohlstetter, a pioneer of modern intelligence, we looked at the stories of those who have influenced or been influenced by AI. Most parents would readily agree that they’d do anything to protect their child—but what happens when that child is accused of the unthinkable? Chris Evans and Michelle Dockery star in Apple’s limited series Defending Jacob, about the seemingly idyllic Barber family and the upheaval they experience when their son Jacob (Jaeden Martell) is charged with murder. Based on William Landay’s 2012 bestselling novel, Defending Jacob is a compelling character-driven thriller exploring guilt, deception, and how far a family will go to protect one of its own. Join Evans, Dockery and Martell, and the show's executive producers Mark Bomback and Morten Tyldum as they talk with Entertainment Weekly’s Devan Coggan about bringing their twisty thriller to the screen, from first accusations to that final, gut-wrenching ending. All eight episodes of Defending Jacob are now available to stream exclusively on Apple TV+.
Uncover the secret to integrating framing stories with The Imitation Game. The 2014 film was directed by Morten Tyldum from the Oscar-winning screenplay by Graham Moore. It’s based on the 1983 biography Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges. Each week one of the Roundtable team—Valerie Francis, Kim Kessler, or Leslie Watts—aims to get to the bottom of a specific story principle by analyzing a film, novel, or short story. The rest of us analyze the story according to our own chosen topics, and together we deepen our knowledge and level up our craft.Click here for the full show notes.

Sarah Bolger stars as "Emily Thomas," the beautiful "guera" next door and childhood sweetheart of EZ on Mayans A.C.. Andy Barber has been an assistant district attorney in his suburban Massachusetts county for more than twenty years. He is respected in his community, tenacious in the courtroom, and happy at home with his wife, Laurie, and son, Jacob. But when a shocking crime shatters their New England town, Andy is blindsided by what happens next: His fourteen-year-old son is charged with the murder of a fellow student. Every parental instinct Andy has rallies to protect his boy. Jacob insists that he is innocent, and Andy believes him. Andy must. He's his father. But as damning facts and shocking revelations surface, as a marriage threatens to crumble and the trial intensifies, as the crisis reveals how little a father knows about his son, Andy will face a trial of his own - between loyalty and justice, between truth and allegation, between a past he's tried to bury and a future he cannot conceive. Recorded during British LBGTQ+ History month, in this episode Hugh and Jenna explore the life of Alan Turing though the film The Imitation Game directed by Morten Tyldum, written by Graham Moore and staring Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance, and Mark Strong. Hugh and Jenna discuss how The Imitation Game took the story of the amazing teamwork at Bletchley Park, and how a group came together to build a machine that could crack the Nazi's Enigma code, and changed the narrative to focus on Alan Turing, an incredible individual, but someone who was happy to be part of a team, and what that does to the history. They also chat a bit about LGBTQ history and issues, as well as Autism.
While Apple TV+'s first wave of content was met with a lukewarm response, it hasn't stopped the tech company from continuing to collaborate with A-List talent. The tech company has already joined forces with such talent as M. Night Shyamalan, Steven Spielberg, Jason Momoa, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Kumail Nanjiani, Octavia Spencer, and countless others. However, the top tier collaborations don't stop there. In Apple TV+'s latest drama, "Defending Jacob," Academy Award-nominated director, Morten Tyldum ("The Imitation Game," "Passengers"), assembled an all-star team to bring to life an adaptation of the bestselling novel. The show has quickly become a topic of weekly television discourse. Starring Chris Evans, Michelle Dockery, Jaeden Martell, and Pablo Schrieber, "Defending Jacob" follows an assistant DA (Evans) and his family as their lives are uprooted following the shocking accusation that his son may be a murderer. The series not only features A-List talent in front of the camera but behind the camera as well. "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" screenwriter, Mark Bombock, pens the script while Tyldum directs all eight episodes of the series. While Tyldum has had great success with his feature films, he's no stranger to television. The director helmed episodes of Amazon Prime's "Jack Ryan" and Starz's "Counterpart" and excels at bringing a cinematic sensibility to the format. That sensibility proved to be critical in constructing the visual language "Defending Jacob." Using the atmosphere to emphasize character drama, Tyldum specifically looked to some of his favorite adult thrillers and one of cinema's most influential voices. It's easy to get wrapped up in the atmosphere and mystery Tyldum crafts in "Defending Jacob," as it's immediately the first thing that hits you. However, Tyldum still wanted to ground the story as much as possible. Chris Evans' experience in live performance gave him exactly what he was looking for as it helped anchor the drama in reality. During our conversation with Tyldum on episode eighteen of The Fourth Wall, we talk about the importance of casting Chris Evans in the lead and why his lack of experience in roles like this is precisely why Tyldum wanted him. We also discuss the key to a successful book adaptation, taking creative liberties with the source material, THAT surprise casting choice, whether he prefers the binge model vs. week-to-week, the future of the theatrical experience, and much more. Wake us up when it’s over! Kim continues her study of stories that don’t work this week with 2016’s Passengers, written by Jon Spaihts and directed by Morten Tyldum. This film had a flaw so widely perceived that several film blogs created fixes for it. We’re going to do the same. Each week one of the Story Grid Editors—Jarie Bolander, Valerie Francis, Anne Hawley, Kim Kessler, or Leslie Watts—pitches a film as an example of a significant story principle. Alan Turing is one of the principle reasons you're able to read this sentence on a computer right now. He is also a major reason the sentence is in English instead of German or Japanese. He's a fascinating character with an fascinating life cut way too short. So when our friend and guest host, Siobhan Beeman, suggested we hash out the Turing biography (Alan Turing: The Enigma, Andrew Hodges, 1983) and its filmed adaptation (The Imitation Game, dir. Morten Tyldum, 2014), we agreed to the idea eagerly. Four months and seven hundred dense pages later, a bit of that eagerness faded. In the end, that small amount of grind was ultimately the key to a surprisingly salty and laughter filled episode that we're quite proud of.

Interview the first: The directors of both 22 Jump Street and The Lego Movie, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, stopped by the Empire Podcast this week to remind the world that everything is indeed awesome. Interview the second: The director of both The Imitation Game and Headhunters, Morten Tyldum, stopped by to remind the world that Benedict Cumberbatch is good at that acting thing.
