In this episode of the Inspire Podcast, Bart Egnal speaks with Rachel Cossar, co-founder and CEO of Virtual Sapiens, about how AI is transforming leadership communication training. Drawing on her own journey from the professional world of ballet to expert in non-verbal communication, Rachel explains how her experience in performance and body awareness led to the creation of an AI-powered communication coaching platform. Together, Bart and Rachel explore why AI can be such a powerful complement to facilitated training and executive coaching, especially when it comes to practice, repetition, feedback, and accountability. They discuss their collaboration with The Humphrey Group, including how THG has trained the platform on their own IP and is integrating AI coaching into their programs to help participants build confidence and measure improvement over time. The conversation also examines the limits of AI, why human facilitation remains essential, and how the future of communication training will combine technology with human connection. A fascinating look at the evolving role of AI in helping people become more effective, authentic, and inspiring communicators. Forty Colombian farmers sat looking at her, completely unimpressed, when the cartel boss in the back of the room opened a case and a drone flew up out of it. In this episode, I sit down with Attia Qureshi, the negotiation teacher who learned her craft running State Department conflict-resolution work in cartel-controlled coca regions of Colombia, and who now teaches at the University of Michigan after a stint at MIT Sloan. Her new book Never Settle, with a foreword by Sheila Heen and endorsements from Daniel Pink, Robert Cialdini, and Chris Voss, hits shelves next week. The thing I love about her work is that she does not treat negotiation as a boardroom sport. She treats it as a daily relationship skill, the kind you practice with your barista so it is already in your hands when something hard comes up at home. In This Episode The four-step sequence Attia used to reset a room of 40 unimpressed farmers and a cartel boss with a drone, and how the same four steps work in your kitchen tonight Why "take out the trash" is the position and not the actual ask, and the one-sentence reframe that changes how you fight about household chores The fifth-grade bullying story that produced the hard shell most of us are still wearing into adulthood The seven-word test that tells you whether you are influencing someone or manipulating them Why the freeze you feel when you try to speak up is physiology, not personality, and what to do about it in real time How to know when you are giving too much to a taker, and the experiment Attia recommends before you decide to cut losses The literal glass of lemonade that turned a hostile next-door neighbor into a friendly one, and the Cialdini-backed science underneath it Why This Matters This episode is for anyone who knows what they want and goes quiet when it is time to ask. For anyone stuck in a loop with a difficult coworker or in-law that has been the same loop for three years. For anyone who has tried the assertive thing once and the people-pleasing thing once and is exhausted by both, and who wants a path that does not require a personality transplant. Larry Levine and Darrell Amy are joined by Margie Newman Tsay, founder of Intesa Communications Group, who shares her expertise in strategic communications, reputation management, executive coaching, and crisis response. Margie emphasizes the need for clarity, brevity, and effective communication during crises and how these skills are essential for building trust and credibility. She also highlights the role of continuous learning and vulnerability in becoming a successful communicator, regardless of age or gender. The episode underscores the overlooked necessity of crisis communication training in the sales profession and offers actionable insights for sales leaders and professionals.KEY TAKEAWAYSCommunication requires repetition - Say things 10-11 times before people truly retain them; don't assume once is enough Make the customer the hero - Focus on their goals and needs, not your product or yourself Reputation is built daily - Trust and authenticity come from how you show up every single day, not just when making a sale Surprises are for birthdays - Over-communicate to avoid catching people off guard in business relationships Crisis communication essentials - Focus on brevity, roles, and goals; reduce oxygen to the flame rather than escalating Diversify your network - Learn from people across different ages, genders, and industries to expand your communication toolkit Humans first in crisis - Remember everyone defaults to fear and ego under pressure; sometimes people just need to be heardQUOTES"Selling from the heart means remembering that it's not about you. Make the customer the hero." "Surprises are for birthdays. You gotta communicate, communicate, communicate in four different ways to make sure people get it." "Leadership is context. When we stop communicating and giving that context, trust erodes." "No one is born a great communicator. This is a learned skill. You can start today being a great communicator." "In a crisis, our brains are ego and overwhelm. We immediately need to know what is going on, how do we solve for it, and what's my job." "What's the closest gator to your boat? You take 'em one gator at a time." (on prioritizing in crisis) "Everyone is a human first. Ego and fear don't bring out the best in any person, and that is what you're dealing with in a crisis."Learn more about Margie Newman Tsay.LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/margienewmantsay/Learn more about Darrell and Larry.Darrell's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/darrellamy/Larry's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/larrylevine1992/Website: https://www.sellingfromtheheart.net/ADDITIONAL RESOURCESDiscover Heart-Centered Leadership:Explore the Culture from the Heart Podcast and uncover the secrets to thriving workplace cultures. When your technician says "I think this might help" versus "This is the best solution based on what I'm seeing, and here's why," they're not just changing words—they're changing your company's revenue potential. This powerful episode dives deep into the psychology of service business communication, revealing why customers don't actually buy plumbing or HVAC solutions—they buy certainty, peace of mind, and problems being removed from their plate. When your team sounds uncertain, it triggers customer fear, delays decisions, and costs your company thousands in lost revenue every week.I share practical training methods you can implement immediately, including how to upgrade your team's common phrases, role-play objection handling, and customize language for different customer personality types. The DISC profile breakdown alone will transform how your team communicates—Dominant customers want bottom lines, Influencers need emotional connection, Steady types seek comfort, and Analytical folks crave details. The results speak for themselves. One plumbing company implemented these language techniques and watched their close rate jump 20% with a 15% ticket size increase in just 60 days—same team, same service, new words. This isn't just about sales; your leadership language shapes your entire company culture and sets the foundation for success.Ready to transform your service business through the power of words? Start by auditing your team's language, upgrading five key phrases, and implementing weekly role-play sessions. Remember: certainty sells, language leads, and culture starts with the words you train. Throughout the conversation, Rachel and Dr. Escudé explore the critical need for better training and resources for healthcare professionals, the importance of observation skills in diagnosing health concerns, and the role of direct support professionals (DSPs) in advocating for individuals with IDD. Rachel also shares real-world experiences, including a powerful story about learning to recognize subtle health cues that might otherwise be overlooked. Tune in to learn about the barriers in IDD healthcare, the importance of collaboration between providers, and how simple tools—like augmentative communication apps—can make a big difference. Whether you're a healthcare provider, caregiver, or advocate, this episode offers valuable insights into improving healthcare equity for people with IDD.

Functional Communication Training (FCT) is a proven strategy to replace problem behaviors with effective communication skills. In her article, Practitioners Guide for Selecting Functional Communication Responses, published in Behavior Analysis in Practice, Dr. Bethjoy Houck offers practical advice to help clinicians implement FCT successfully.FCT focuses on giving learners a way to express their needs that works for them, whether through speech, sign language, cue cards, object exchanges, or even video clips. Dr. Houck shares creative examples that encourage thinking beyond traditional methods to meet each learner's unique needs. She stresses the importance of starting with assessments like Ringdahl's MTA or Valentino et al. to identify the best Functional Communication Responses (FCRs) for the individual. Practitioners should select FCRs that reinforce desired behaviors or are incompatible with the problem behavior. FCRs should be taken seriously and not unnecessarily restricted, as maintaining open and accessible communication is key to the success of FCT.Dr. Houck emphasizes that FCT is about meeting learners where they are and giving them tools to express themselves in ways that make sense for their abilities. Whether verbal or nonverbal, communication is an essential skill, and FCT helps individuals share their needs while fostering meaningful growth. #autism #speechtherapy What's Inside:What is Functional Communication Training?5 FCT recommendations for clinicians. What is an FCR?Getting started with FCT assessments.Mentioned In This Episode:ABA Speech: HomeJoin the aba speech connection membership

This episode of the Woman Power Zone Podcast is a crossover show with Connected Communication. Ariel is joined by guest host Christine Mullaney to discuss what great communication is and what it isn't. KEY TAKEAWAYS My first big communication was with my spirit guides. I had abilities which I was aware of at about 3, but I didn't know that other people didn't have them until about 6. I realised that I couldn't work with human beings in the way other people did. I was seeing auras and energy around people, I was seeing spirits from the other side and nature intelligences.  I had a narcissist as a mother and I recognised there were mental health issues from an early age, I could sense that I wasn't safe on a bunch of different levels, including talking about these things. So, I started talking to my spirit guides to work out what was real and what wasn't, and they gave me meditation practices to combat my anxiety.  I wouldn't wish my childhood on anyone, and communicating with them kept me sane, balanced and getting through that into something more positive in my life. When we're communicating with people, we need to tune into how what they're saying makes us feel. I was on LinkedIn last night and I got a cold pitch, which I'm not a fan of, it was very cold, frosty, clinical and technically accurate. I gave the guy feedback that LinkedIn is not what this is for, it's about developing relationships. He said “I've been using AI and I'm not sure it's working”. That explained why it was so cold , frosty, distant and technically accurate: It was a computer! Trust your inner feelings and intuition. Your body and your auric fields can read the intention of the person you're communicating with, what's coming off of that person's chakras, what's in that person's energy field. If you feel openness, freedom, calm, peaceful, tranquil feelings or states, if you perceive that you feel relaxed, that's a response to a positive energy from that person. If you feel stressed, angry, resentful your beingness/body/energy field can read when someone's crossing a line. BEST MOMENTS“Spirit guides are beings whose goal is to help us develop spiritually.”“In my family, I'm the only person who doesn't have some kind of issue mentally where I don't need medication.”“We relate to the divine in a way that we can based on our consciousness as a filter. The more open your brain is, the more expanded your awareness of what Source energy is.”“We're going to have to get really smart in detecting AI, because it's learning how to use human-esque voices in the written word.” ABOUT THE GUEST HOSTChristine Mullaney is a nature-loving wanderer and adventurer by weekend and brain-based communication, public speaking and presentation skills coach on weekdays.  Her life task is to empower and enlighten through education. In this episode Ariel is joined by Christine Mullaney about courage, opening up, changing, trusting, and self discovery. KEY TAKEAWAYS My journey with courage started when I was very young, but it became a key theme in my life at 17 when I had my first shamanic experience to cure a recurring problem with my throat. I met my first spirit guide, a wolf, who came to me for courage. But I'd say I've had to be courageous for much of my life, I've had a variety of experiences some of which have tried to knock me down or back. My TEDx talk came 6 months after leaving a narcissistically abusive relationship I'd been in for around 6 years. I in no way put all of what happened on him, he had his own life experience and was who he was because of his life experiences and I certainly didn't behave in ways that necessarily helped it. That's been my most recent healing journey. Part of coming back was the recognition that I had been a very strong, very confident, very open woman before that relationship and she wasn't gone, she'd just gone a different route before meandering back to the road that she wanted to be on. It's a spiral: We experience these things in life and we move through the spiral and each time we come out at a higher level of frequency. Maybe we need to repeat things again, each of my last three relationships had similar patterns – different kinds of addictive substances, abuse in some sort of form, but all centring back into the lived experience I had as a child. But, each time I came out of these relationships at a higher level of frequency, until l got to the point where I realised I could leave that spiral. I wanted to pitch the ripple effect of vulnerability to everybody through my TEDx talk because when we share our stories we create a ripple effect that helps other people have the courage to share theirs. BEST MOMENTS“I can choose to let life knock me down, and knock me back, and keep me where I am, or I can say ‘I'm going to face this, step forwards and through it, and come out the other side however I come out'.”“It's important to share your story, to be able to stand in your own power with respect to those around you and share from your truth.”“People talk about ‘the comfort zone', for me it's not really a comfort zone, it's a place where we're used to things happening and that's our normality.”“The meaning of courage is ‘heart', that's the etymology of it.” ABOUT THE GUESTChristine Mullaney is a nature-loving wanderer and adventurer by weekend and brain-based communication, public speaking and presentation skills coach on weekdays.  Her life task is to empower and enlighten through education. The Secret to Effective Communication: It's Not What You Say, It's How You Say It

Albuquerque Business Podcast

Communication is one of the most important skills for a leader to have. It is the way that leaders share their vision, motivate their team, and build trust. Effective communication can help leaders to achieve their goals, improve morale, and create a more positive work environment. There are many different aspects to effective communication. Some of the most important include: Being clear and concise. Leaders should be able to communicate their ideas clearly and concisely. This means using simple language that is easy to understand, and avoiding jargon or technical terms. Being honest and transparent. Leaders should be honest with their team members, and they should be transparent about their decisions and goals. This helps to build trust and create a sense of shared purpose. Being open to feedback. Leaders should be open to feedback from their team members. This helps them to understand different perspectives and to make better decisions. Being a good listener. Leaders should be good listeners. This means paying attention to what their team members are saying, and it means being able to ask clarifying questions. Being adaptable. Leaders should be able to adapt their communication style to the situation. This means being able to communicate effectively in a variety of settings, with a variety of people. Maintaining effective communication is not always easy, but it is essential for leaders who want to be successful. By following the tips above, leaders can improve their communication skills and build stronger relationships with their team members. Here are some additional tips for leaders who want to improve their communication skills: Be mindful of your body language. Your body language can communicate just as much as your words, so it's important to be mindful of how you're coming across. Make eye contact, smile, and nod your head to show that you're listening. Use active listening skills. This means paying attention to what the other person is saying, and it means asking clarifying questions. It also means being patient and not interrupting. Be respectful of others' opinions. Even if you don't agree with someone, it's important to respect their opinion. This doesn't mean you have to agree with them, but it does mean listening to what they have to say and considering their perspective. Be open to feedback. No one is perfect, and leaders are no exception. Be open to feedback from your team members, and use it to improve your communication skills. Practice makes perfect. The more you communicate, the better you'll become at it. So get out there and start practicing!

Functional communication, or FCT, is a way to decrease problem behavior through teaching effective communication skills. Shira once had a student who had a ton of language. He would talk all the time in sentences and communicate what he wanted to do, but he didn't request things. He sometimes engaged in negative attention-seeking behavior but didn't know how to appropriately get attention. She taught him how to mand for attention by using text cues, which is an FCT technique, and he stopped engaging in aggression. All behavior is communication, and they're two sides of the same coin. Kids don't misbehave because they're bad or challenging, they're trying to get attention to get their needs met and it's often effective. With FCT, we are looking at how to increase the skill and give the child a replacement for the negative or unwanted behavior. The replacement needs to be faster, easier, and better than the negative behavior. Here, we discuss where to start when teaching mands, how to collect data, and how to avoid developing chains of responses by using transfer trials. What's Inside:What FCT is and how it helps correct unwanted behavior.Where to start when teaching mands. How to collect data. The importance of transfer trials.Mentioned In This Episode:HowToABA.com/joinHow to ABA on YouTubeFind us on FacebookFollow us on InstagramThe Purpose of Transfer Trials

Your unconscious mind impacts everything. There are three types of ego: the controller, the compiler, and the protector. Each of us typically has all three of those egos, but with one or two of them being dominant. Your ego thinks fast, it's triggered by emotion, and when it's triggered it becomes defensive. The way to counter this is by taking a breath, being calm, and being conscious of your mindset. Once you bring awareness to yourself, look at what's really happening in the room and try to correct the direction of the discussion.Normalize it, get to the root, and just carry it. Don't give yourself any judgment, but make sure to recognize that you have ownership. Then, you are able to empathize with other perspectives around the situation. "Normalize it, get to the root, then now just carry it. Once you have a level of self awareness and ownership, you can get really curious as to why do [you] do that.  That's how you uncover those belief systems and mindset." —  Christie Garcia See Dean's TedTalk “Why Business Needs Intuition” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEq9IYvgV7I  Connect with Christie Garcia:  Website: www.mindfulchoiceacademy.comInstagram: https://instagram.com/mindfulchoice_Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mindfulchoiceLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christiegarcia/ Connect with Dean:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgqRK8GC8jBIFYPmECUCMkwWebsite: https://www.mfileadership.com/The Mission Statement E-Newsletter: https://www.mfileadership.com/blog/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deannewlund/Twitter: https://twitter.com/deannewlundFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/MissionFacilitators/Email: dean.newlund@mfileadership.comPhone: 1-800-926-7370  Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine Talla Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions.
