Vampires today? Slick hair, silk capes. Some eve sparkle. Vampires back then? Bloated corpses crawling out of the dirt to ruin your crops and torment you with whispering your sins in the dark. In this week's episode, the Hosts dig deep—literally—into two of Britain's grimiest, creepiest, nastiest vampire legends: the Berwick Revenant and the Melrose Chaplain. These aren't your Victorian nightwalkers with dinner reservations and box seats at the opera! These are medieval undead freakshows with unfinished business. First, we head to Berwick-on-Tweed, where a pious man dies, only to rise again each night—chased through the streets by hellhounds from the fiery below. Then it's off to Melrose Abbey, where a debauched priest refuses to stay in the ground, creeping back from the grave to haunt his former patron - and anyone else who skipped evening prayers. What do these revenants want?... Blood? Maybe... Redemption? Doubtful... Peace? Only if you burn the body and do it fast. Join us as we dive into plague, purgatory, and the part of vampire folklore where the vamps aren't sexy—they're just filthy. Citizens of the Milky Way, prepare yourselves for The Revenants of Berwick & Melrose!Music & Editing by Gage Hurley++++Check out our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/creepstreetpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/creepstreetpodcastYouTube: https://youtube.com/@creepstreetpodcast5062?feature=sharedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@creepstreetpodcast#Vampires #HauntedHistory #ScottishHistory #ParanormalPodcast #TrueParanormal #HauntedScotland #ScottishVampires #Berwick #Melrose #Folklore #CreepStreetPodcast #ParanormalStories #CursedHistory #GhostStories #SupernaturalTales #UrbanLegends #DarkHistory #Macabre #OccultStories #HauntedPlaces #Scotland #ScottishFolklore #ScottishMyths #UKFolklore #UKParanormal #ScottishLegends #ScottishHauntings #Borderlands #HistoricScotland #PodcastLife #StorytellingPodcast #CreepyContent #SpookySeason #TrueHorror #WeirdHistory #HistoryPodcast #FolklorePodcast #SupernaturalPodcast
What happens when you're attacked by a grizzly bear, left for dead, and forced to crawl nearly 200 miles to survive? That's the true story, or perhaps just the legend, of Hugh Glass, a 19th-century frontiersman whose incredible survival story inspired books and Hollywood films like The Revenant. In this episode, you'll: Hear the dramatic survival story of Hugh Glass. Learn and review 10+ irregular past tense verbs in context (ran, tore, bit, beat, lay, wore, told, dealt, stole, and more). Discover how legends grow through “embellishment” — when details get added to make a story more dramatic. Reflect on the moral of the story: true strength isn't just physical, it's determination and endurance.

Have you ever succeeded when no one thought you could? That's what it means to do something against all odds. In today's episode, Shana begins with a bear story from her front yard in Asheville (yes, one even climbed into her car!), then moves into a lighthearted pun about “bare feet.” From there, you'll dive deep into the expression against all odds. You'll learn its meaning, history, and how to use it naturally in daily conversation. Shana shares incredible real-life examples: the Donner Party pioneers who survived a brutal winter, Eminem rising to the top of rap, the “Miracle on Ice” U.S. hockey victory, and more inspiring stories including Walt Disney, Elvis Presley, Diana Nyad, and Aron Ralston. By the end, you'll not only understand the phrase against all odds, but you'll also feel motivated by stories of triumph in the face of impossible challenges. Stick around for the pronunciation practice to make sure the phrase rolls off your tongue like a native speaker's—and get ready for next week's tale of Hugh Glass, the legendary frontiersman who inspired The Revenant. Was geht hier ab!?!? Ganz einfach: Wir sammeln WTF-MOMENTE. Unsere 15 liebsten. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In Episode 612 of The Knife Junkie Podcast, host Bob DeMarco welcomes Cache Haggard, founder of Revenant Corps, to discuss his innovative G10 knife designs for non-permissive environments. Cache brings a deep martial arts background spanning jiu-jitsu, wrestling, Muay Thai, and various knife arts including the prison-inspired Medusa Edge Weapon System and South African Piper techniques.Cache shares his journey from holster maker to G10 knife innovator, explaining how his flagship Grackle design and other tactical profiles prioritize function over flash. The conversation explores the unique advantages of G10 as a knife material - it doesn't set off metal detectors, won't rust, and remains lightweight while maintaining strength tested on pig carcasses. From traditional Tsukamaki wrapping techniques to innovative sheath designs using Boltaron and shock cord attachments, Revenant Corps represents a thoughtful approach to modern defensive tools. The discussion delves into the intersection of grappling and knife work, the challenges of building a niche business in the tactical market, and Cache's philosophy of creating weapons that can go where metal cannot. His designs include the cleverly disguised G10 awl that resembles a Sharpie marker, demonstrating the innovative thinking behind NPE (non-permissive environment) tools.Cache also shares his business journey, from facing constant rejection to building a full-time operation, and his plans to expand into steel while maintaining G10 as the core of his product line.Listen to the full episode at https://www.theknifejunkie.com/612, and learn more about Cache and Revenant Corps at https://revenantcorps.com, Instagram @revenantcorps, and Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/107753208416874.Be sure to support The Knife Junkie and get in on the perks of being a patron, including early access to the podcast and exclusive bonus content. Editor - Stephen Mirrione, ACE F1 editor Stephen Mirrione ACE, known for his exceptional work in films like Traffic and The Revenant, took on a whole new challenge with F1, an adrenaline-fueled project that demanded innovation and intricacy at every turn. One of the many tasks for Mirrione was ensuring the emotional weight and authenticity within F1's racing scenes. Every cut, every transition was made with the intention of drawing the audience deeper into the world of racing. The commitment to authenticity was evident in using Formula One track cameras and high-speed car mounts, which provided unparalleled realism. F1 stars Brad Pitt as race car driver, Sonny Hayes. In the 1990s, Hayes was Formula 1's most promising driver until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, the owner of a struggling Formula 1 team convinces Sonny to return to racing and become the best in the world. Driving alongside the team's hotshot rookie, Sonny soon learns that the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone. Stephen Mirrione, ACE Stephen has spent the past thirty years building an impressive body of work. Unlike many editors who begin their journey into postproduction as assistants, Stephen made a name for himself right away as an editor in the indie film world. His work with directors Doug Liman (Getting in, Swingers, Go) and Jill Sprecher (Clockwatchers, Thirteen Conversations About One Thing) quickly established Stephen as a creative force to be reckoned with in the cutting room. Soon after Stephen would meet a director who would have a significant impact on his career...Steven Soderbergh. Their time together would begin with the film Traffic. This would not only be the first of Stephen's three Oscar nominations, but also his first Oscar win. Following Traffic, Stephen would take on the duties of editing Soderbergh's "Ocean's" films, starring an actor that would eventually become a prominent director in his own right, George Clooney. When Clooney began looking for an editor for his first project, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Soderbergh recommended Mirrione. The creative partnership between Clooney and Mirrione would result in seven feature films. Not one to rest on his laurels too long, over that same time period Mirrione would also edit five of Alejandro G. Iñárritu's films (21 Grams, Babel, Biutiful, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) and The Revenant). Today on Art of the Cut we speak with Oscar-winning editor, Stephen Mirrione, ACE about editing the summer blockbuster, F1.Stephen's been on Art of the Cut before when he edited The Revenant, for which he was nominated for an Oscar, a BAFTA and an ACE Eddie. He was nominated for a BAFTA and an ACE Eddie for Birdman. He was nominated for an Oscar and a BAFTA and won an ACE Eddie for Babel. In 2006 he won the Cannes Film Festival technical Grand Prize for editing. And he won the Oscar and was nominated for a BAFTA and an ACE Eddie for editing Traffic. Not to mention - though I guess I AM mentioning - editing The Monuments Men, August: Osage County, Hunger Games, and Oceans 11, 12 AND 13.This episode includes discussions of how editing pace is contextual, the value of editors speaking into the script, and how in the HELL do you cope with a 2000:1 shooting ratio!? Director Joseph Kosinski's previous blockbuster, “Top Gun Maverick” was 800 hours of film for about a 200:1 ratio. And Apocalypse Now was notably insane at just 95:1.And if you want to read along with this podcast and also see exclusive images, timeline screenshots - with explanations of each track, and trailers and clips, please check out the BorisFX blog:borisfx.com/blog/aotc

Ten years ago, 2015 was the year of the epic Western. Two films, Alejandro Iñárritu's The Revenant and Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, clocked in at an average length of 170 minutes and scored a combined 15 Academy Award nominations, winning 4 between them. As a pair, the two films brought in nearly $700 million at the box office. Along with John Maclean's Sundance darling Slow West, the year marked a return to prominence of the western genre, foreshadowing the next decade's breakout hits like Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone and Hell or High Water, and Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon. Slipping somewhat under the radar in 2015 was the directorial debut of S. Craig Zahler, a prolific author and screenwriter with a penchant for wit, grit, and gore. Zahler cast Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, and Richard Jenkins in a Western akin to John Ford's The Searchers by way of Wes Craven's The Hills Have Eyes. When townsfolk are kidnapped by a clan of troglodyte cannibals, four men - the sheriff, a cowboy, a gunslinger, and the back-up deputy - ride out as a posse to rescue them. The indie film quickly earned praise for its direction, dialogue, and disturbing imagery, and has built a cult following in the decade hence. But is our posse of hosts in agreement on how Bone Tomahawk lands? Or will we, too, be split down the middle?

As Easter weekend comes to an end, Ryan posts a solo show about another intense blood-feud here in Revenge Month. Leonardo DiCaprio went through hell and finally won his Oscar while auteur Alejandro G. Iñárritu won his 4th in 2 years for their work on The Revenant, a violent, gory, grueling and beautifully-photographed survival story. There's a running theme of racism against Native Americans in here too, who are on their own vengeance quest. Tom Hardy is fantastic as Leo's antagonist, who earns the enmity of a man nearly killed by a bear after he kills that man's son. And the hunt is on. So grab your musket & your knife and eat some raw fish & even some raw liver as this lengthy monologue about The Revenant represents Have You Ever Seen #660. We're sponsored by Sparkplug Coffee. In 1875, the Gring home would host the dead bodies of four members of the Bissinger family following a murder-suicide. A mother, Louisa Bissinger, took the lives of her children in retaliation for a wrong by the father. The tragic circumstances have left the ghosts of the family to haunt this area of Berks County in Pennsylvania. And then there was Ethel Major. Her husband was an angry man and their relationship had gone sour long ago. Rather than leave her husband, she decided to make the ultimate break. And for that, she paid with her life. It seems her spirit haunts the prison where she died. Join us as we share these tragic tales that have left revenants of two bad marriages.
