A Diwali / Bandi Chhor Divas Special | Finding Sikhi SeriesThis Diwali, as the world celebrates light over darkness and freedom from captivity, we share the powerful story of Dilveer Singh, a man who truly lived that message. Dilveer grew up in a typical Punjabi Sikh household, but with little Sikhi in his life. As a teenager, he got caught in the wrong crowd, falling into drug and alcohol addiction that eventually led to prison. It was inside those prison walls, in the darkest place of his life; that Dilveer discovered the light of Guru Sahib. Through Sikhi, he found freedom not just from addiction, but from the pain and emptiness that once defined him.
In this episode, Ashok Hariharan, Founder and CEO of IDfy, shares the raw, unfiltered story of building India's largest background verification and digital identity platform from scratch. From nearly dying with just two months of runway in 2013 when 12 employees chose deferred salaries over leaving, to surviving a 90% revenue collapse during COVID by betting everything on Video KYC technology built three years early, Ashok reveals how patience and strategic readiness beat blitzscaling. He discusses IDfy's evolution from a ₹3.5 lakh background verification startup to a comprehensive RegTech platform processing 65 million verifications monthly across onboarding, fraud detection, and DPDP Act compliance. Ashok shares contrarian insights on incremental compounding over spike growth, building a 15% ESOP pool (largest in Indian tech), and why IDfy doesn't have "founders" but a leadership team designed for 40-year longevity. He unpacks India's hidden ₹10,000 crore fake employment industry, the technical architecture behind handling 100,000 requests per second, and why contributing to India's privacy law in 2018 positioned IDfy to dominate the DPDP compliance wave. This candid conversation with host Akshay Dutt covers everything from rewiring the entire platform in Elixir during Diwali, to expanding internationally with 15% revenue now coming from Philippines and Indonesia, to the cultural philosophy of "Saraswati over Lakshmi" that shaped IDfy's approach to wealth distribution and organizational design. Whether you're a founder navigating the funding winter, building in RegTech or fintech, scaling background verification or KYC solutions, or simply fascinated by resilient startup journeys, this episode delivers actionable frameworks on manufacturing luck, surviving near-death moments, and building sustainable profitable growth in India's digital identity ecosystem.#AshokHariharan #IDfy #IdentityVerificationIndia #BackgroundVerificationIndia #KYCSolutionsIndia #VideoKYCIndia #RegTechIndia #DigitalIdentityIndia #FraudDetectionIndia #DPDPActCompliance #IndianStartupJourney #StartupFundingIndia #FounderThesisPodcast #AkshayDutt #IncrementalCompounding #ManufacturingLuck #GigEconomyIndia #FintechIndia #AadhaarVerification #UPIFraudPrevention #IndiaStack #PrivacyComplianceIndia #CrimeCheckIndia #SyntheticIdentityFraud #StartupResilience #ProfitableStartupIndia #B2BSaaSIndia #EnterpriseTechIndia #SEAExpansion #PhilippinesStartup #IndonesiaFintech Disclaimer: The views expressed are those of the speaker, not necessarily the channel

Diwali and Hanukkah are based on the same principles of light and warmth, though the latter developed out of a temple rededication and the former is from a far older, universal practice that we know as Christmas lights, i.e., all lights that illuminate the dark and warm the cold. Send us a textIn this week's episode of Showing Up Whole, Christina step intothe Holiday Season with intention. Instead of rushing into the familiar holiday shoulds, she pauses to ask a powerful question: What are we actually celebrating? In a season filled with expectations, traditions, and emotional weight, it's easy for sensitive, heart-led women to disconnect from themselves and put themselves on a shelf. Today, Christina explores how the holidays can become a doorway back to your inner light rather than a drain on your energy. She starts by looking at the deeper essence beneath every cultural holiday: light, hope, renewal, and the faith that life returns even in the darkest season. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, solstice, or something uniquely yours, the theme is the same; remembering the light within and around you. You'll hear stories from her childhood, how family traditions have shifted through the years, and why joy, comfort, and meaning often show up in simple rituals like music, movies, nourishing food, and shared presence.Explore how holiday stress disconnects you from your truth, and how to sort your shoulds from your joys so you can choose what actually supports your nervous system, your energy, and your spirit. If you're craving a grounded, sacred reset this season, join Christina for her free Winter Solstice Ritual of Light on December 21st. We'll meditate, release the energetic clutter, reconnect to your inner fire, and celebrate the return of light together. And don't forget to download your free guide, Three Practices for a Calm Holiday Season, plus a bonus 7-minute meditation to help you stay centered no matter how busy life gets. This year, choose calm over chaos, alignment over pressure, and joy over expectation.Make this the season you remember who you really are.Christina Fletcher is a Spiritual Alignment coach, energy worker, author, speaker and host of the podcast Showing Up Whole. She specialises in practical spirituality and integrating inner work with outer living, so you can get self development off of the hobby shelf and integrated as a powerful fuel to your life. Dickens' A Christmas Carol stands out strongly from his other works, but not because it's so different, really, in what it hopes to accomplish. Critiquing society, drawing attention to the world outside the doors of the wealthy in Victorian England, hoping to create social change... this was Dickens. But it's in A Christmas Carol that he condenses this message and provides joy in equal measure with distress. I've read a lot of Dickens, though I never did quite manage to finish Bleak House even after carrying it around for months, but it's A Christmas Carol that most stays with me, and that most feels like a doable add to a high school curriculum filled with many voices. At the same time, we can't talk about A Christmas Carol without considering how it centers Christmas. If you're going to teach this book, consider how you can also acknowledge the many other holidays that happen in this season - Diwali, Hanukkah, Eid, Lunar New Year, and more. I recently redid all the imagery in my winter holiday maker project (snag it free here) because I realized that although I had tried to keep Christmas from dominating, it was still too red and green. Take a look at the simple changes I was able to make (below) to create a more inclusive project, featuring imagery from many holiday traditions. And if you'd like to explore more inclusive holiday activities, you can find a bunch in this round up blog post. But to come back to Dickens, I think it's important to use the vehicle as a book to discuss Dickens' desire to use his art to create change, his context in Victorian England, and the transformation of his character, Scrooge, rather than seeing it as mainly a fun holiday activity, because of course, many students do not celebrate Christmas and so reading a Christmas story won't necessarily feel like a fun holiday activity to them. IKYK. OK, with all this said, let's dive in to five creative activities you can use with this text, whether you choose to read the play, watch the movie, or some combination. For 17 years, Deepak Shenoy has made annual Diwali predictions about markets, crashes, interest rates, and more. But how many were actually right? Shray sits down with Deepak Shenoy from Capitalmind to examine his prediction history from 2007 to 2024. He correctly called the 2008 crash and Trump's 2024 victory. But real estate and gold? Wrong almost every year. We break down why most predictions fail and what makes the rare successful ones different. Deepak explains the three elements of valid predictions (direction, magnitude, timeframe), why cash on sidelines signals crashes, how AI bubbles mirror 2000, and why interest rates are easy to predict but impossible to profit from. This episode breaks down crashes, bubbles, and market timing, offering honest takes that you can actually use. Brad welcomes Liz Theoharis and Charon Hribar, editors of We Pray Freedom: Liturgies and Rituals from The Freedom Church of the Poor. Both guests are key leaders in the faith-based anti-poverty movement and longtime organizers with the Poor People's Campaign. Together, they discuss how liturgy and ritual can be reclaimed as acts of collective resistance, solidarity, and hope among the poor and dispossessed. The conversation weaves through Liz and Charon's personal journeys—Liz's formation in faith-driven social justice work and Charon's discovery of liberation theology growing up in a steel town—and traces how decades of grassroots organizing through the Kairos Center inspired this new book. They explore how faith traditions, particularly Christianity, can serve as public, justice-oriented practice rather than private belief, what it means to “pray with your feet,” and how ritual itself can be political. Drawing from We Pray Freedom, the guests share powerful examples: a memorial liturgy for unhoused people at New York's Potter's Field, a reimagined Las Posadas led by migrant communities, and multi-faith celebrations like Diwali and Passover that embody joy, resilience, and defiance. They also address the current “war on the poor” in the U.S.—from healthcare cuts to attacks on education—and highlight how communities continue to organize, resist, and find joy together. This episode is both a spiritual and practical conversation about how worship, art, and music can sustain movements for justice. Brad and Dan unpack the symbolism and substance behind the demolition of the East Wing of the White House to make way for a privately funded ballroom. They reflect on what presidential construction projects reveal about power, legacy, and the messages leaders send through what they build...and destroy. The conversation broadens into current policies on immigration and detention centers, the expansion of ICE, and the moral failures in training and accountability. The hosts also examine the “No Kings” protests and the growing Christian nationalist backlash that frames dissent as rebellion against “Jesus as King.” They connect this rhetoric to broader themes of exclusion, such as dismissive comments about non-Christian holidays like Diwali, and to the resurgence of biblical literalism—including a far-right pastor's defense of slavery. Brad and Dan trace the dangerous evolution from persuasion to colonization within evangelical and nationalist movements, while highlighting protest and public dissent as vital signs of democratic resistance and hope. 00:00:30 – Argentina BailoutKnight blasts Trump's secret $40 billion deal with Argentina, accusing the administration of bailing out a foreign ally while U.S. farmers face bankruptcy. He calls it proof that America-first rhetoric masks globalist financial manipulation. 00:07:43 – Trump vs. American FarmersKnight tears into Trump's trade chaos — punishing Brazil, rewarding Argentina, and wrecking market stability for U.S. cattlemen. He argues that MAGA loyalty has blinded conservatives to policies destroying rural America. 00:14:17 – Farm Revolt Against TrumpCattle groups and state farm bureaus condemn Trump's plan to import Argentine beef. Knight highlights growing backlash from agricultural leaders who see the policy as a betrayal of American ranchers and economic sovereignty. 00:42:32 – Bioengineered Meat AllergiesKnight discusses shocking academic proposals to make humans allergic to meat through genetically modified ticks. Condemning it as technocratic insanity and part of the global war on natural food and human biology. 00:51:27 – Globalists' Food Takeover FailsKnight praises Florida's ban on lab-grown “tumor meat” and mocks Bill Gates's failed Beyond Meat empire. He closes with a call for food self-sufficiency, warning that centralized agriculture is the foundation of global control. 01:04:10 – Argentina's Decline & Javier MileiKnight welcomes The New American publisher Steve Bonta, who draws on his time living in Argentina to describe its cultural Europeanism, intellectual roots, and long fall from prosperity into “a century of socialism.” He profiles President Milei as a libertarian reformer trying to reverse Peronist collectivism but warns that populist cults of personality—whether Perón or Trump—lead nations into tyranny. 01:13:00 – FDR, Trump & the Cult of PowerBonta and Knight connect Juan Perón's legacy to FDR's New Deal authoritarianism, arguing that both centralized government control through charisma. Knight warns that Trump has become another “fourth-turning” accelerationist—using chaos to remake America—while setting dangerous precedents that mirror 20th-century strongmen. 01:25:18 – Fiat Money Collapse & Gold ResurgenceBonta explains the Federal Reserve's unique power to export inflation and weaponize the dollar. Both note that central banks worldwide are hoarding gold, signaling the end of fiat illusions. Knight calls the modern system “the magic-money tree,” while Bonta insists only gold and silver reveal the true decline of Western purchasing power. 01:43:37 – UN Global Tax Agenda & Trump's ReversalBonta details the UN's plan for a global shipping tax—its first independent revenue stream toward world government—and credits Trump for blocking it. They trace how globalists use trade blocs to merge economies into political unions, warning the scheme mirrors the EU's path from “free trade” to supranational control. 01:52:27 – De-Dollarization & End of U.S. DominanceKnight and Bonta close by exposing the Argentina bailout and dollar decay. They link Washington's currency manipulations to the global flight toward gold and BRICS, predicting hyperinflation and the fall of dollar supremacy. Knight ends by praising The New American for warning decades ago about federalized, militarized policing and the coming authoritarian backlash. 02:15:47 – Global Silver Shortage & India PanicKnight reports that India's largest silver refinery has run out of supply for the first time ever amid massive Diwali-season buying. He highlights global ripple effects—London vaults empty, traders in chaos, and paper silver diverging from physical metal—framing it as evidence of Western financial decay and manipulation. 02:30:03 – India's Poisoned Pharma EmpireKnight exposes India's pharmaceutical industry as a “toxic mirror of Pfizer,” citing deadly cough syrups and widespread fraud. He argues the FDA knowingly enables foreign contamination through deregulation and political protection, making the U.S. complicit in poisoning its own citizens under the guise of global trade efficiency. 02:44:15 – FDA & Indian Corruption MergeExpanding on ProPublica's findings, Knight details how Indian plants with metal shavings and contaminated drugs still ship to U.S. pharmacies. He claims the FDA's fear of shortages drives its silence, likening the agency to a captured institution prioritizing profit and geopolitical deals over American safety. 02:56:48 – Trump's War on Thomas MassieKnight ends the episode with sharp criticism of Trump's attacks on Congressman Thomas Massie, funded by pro-Israel billionaires like Miriam Adelson. He contrasts Massey's anti-war, anti-bailout record with Trump's hypocrisy—supporting Lindsey Graham and globalist donors—branding Trump “the real RINO” and warning conservatives not to worship false America First idols. This week on the Sheena Interrupted Podcast…We're freezing, feuding, and feeling everything. From our never-ending thermostat war (one of us thinks “room temp” means sub-zero) to a Diwali celebration filled with laughter, tears, and totally unhinged traditions — this episode goes everywhere. Sheena gets emotional about family, TRID rebrands the Festival of Lights into Gotham City, and somehow cow dung, mirrors, and gift cards all make a cameo. It's festive chaos, marital comedy, and a surprisingly heart-warming reminder of what really matters. Opie kicks off with a hilarious throwback clip of KISS legend Ace Frehley crashing Jim Norton's birthday on the old O&A show—complete with Jimmy's wild childhood Kiss beatdown fantasies and a botched "New York Groove" cover. He pays tribute to the late Ace as the "nicest guy in Kiss." Then, unfiltered rants on: Trump's pardon of George Santos (and why politics is a "dirty game"), the chaotic NYC mayor race with Zohran Mamdani poised to win amid Cuomo-Sliwa beef, epic No Kings Day protests (including old folks in wheelchairs hating Trump), and Diwali vibes—celebrating light over darkness, good over evil. Family movie night disasters: The 2015 Vacation reboot holds up better than the "pile of shit" 1983 original (RIP tit shots & stereotypes), Blended flops hard, and Adam Sandler gets roasted as overrated. Plus, shots at haters, Twitter trolls, and living in the light. Raw, real, and packed with O&A memories—don't miss this sunrise stream from Manhattan!
Diwali is the perfect moment to upgrade your relationship with desire. In this episode, we contrast the material formula—“if the world gives me what I want, I'll be happy”—with the yogic move to become the observer of desire, calm it with clear knowledge, and outgrow it through devotion. As love deepens, the craving mind quiets and new, service-shaped desires appear. Expect festival-of-lights reflections, Bhakti insights on detachment and fulfillment, a Bob-Dylan-approved reminder that we all serve something, and a few laughs about Raghu's gym heroics and MRI adventures—because even on the path of devotion, humor helps the medicine go down. From the BBC World Service: As members of China's ruling Communist Party gather to discuss the country's economic plans for the next five years, news that growth has slowed to a one-year low hangs over proceedings. Then, Bolivia's next president has said a priority will be tackling his country's economic crisis. And as Diwali — the Hindu festival of light — begins, we'll ask how consumers in India are dealing with the rising price of gold, which is central to gift-giving there.
Bolivians have elected a center-right candidate, Rodrigo Paz, as their new president, ending 20 years of leftist political leadership. Paz's victory puts the 12-million-strong nation on a notably uncertain path as he attempts to implement significant changes for the first time since 2005. Also, authoritarian governments are increasingly using ‘foreign agent' laws to intimidate and silence civil society groups and journalists. And, a new study reports that cancer rates in Lebanon are rising faster than anywhere else in the world. Plus, Hindus worldwide are celebrating Diwali today. The festival of lights involves oil lamps, fireworks ... and a bit of friendly gambling.Listen to today's Music Heard on Air. Learn about your ad choices: dovetail.prx.org/ad-choices
