Chuck Joiner, David Ginsburg, Brian Flanigan-Arthurs, Eric Bolden, Jeff Gamet, Marty Jencius, Jim Rea, and Web Bixby look at the unannounced feature that reboots iPhones after an extended period of inactivity, how they view it, and how law enforcement is seeing it. In the same vein, we look at what Apple is giving in the form of an also-unannounced improvement to their laptop screens, the new version of Final Cut, and new games for Apple Arcade. Apple is also taking away some features from and what Apple is taking away some legacy machines in terms of support and repair options. The panel digs through all of that and more. Dr. Marty Jencius has been an Associate Professor of Counseling at Kent State University since 2000. He has over 120 publications in books, chapters, journal articles, and others, along with 200 podcasts related to counseling, counselor education, and faculty life. His technology interest led him to develop the counseling profession ‘firsts,' including listservs, a web-based peer-reviewed journal, The Journal of Technology in Counseling, teaching and conferencing in virtual worlds as the founder of Counselor Education in Second Life, and podcast founder/producer of CounselorAudioSource.net and ThePodTalk.net. Currently, he produces a podcast about counseling and life questions, the Circular Firing Squad, and digital video interviews with legacies capturing the history of the counseling field. This is also co-host of The Vision ProFiles podcast. Generally, Marty is chasing the newest tech trends, which explains his interest in A.I. for teaching, research, and productivity. Marty is an active presenter and past president of the NorthEast Ohio Apple Corp (NEOAC). Mike Schmitz is an Apple fanboy, coffee snob, and productivity junkie who is intent on teaching people how to be more productive. His newest effort is He is the Executive Editor for The Sweet Setup, a site dedicated to reviewing and recommending the very best Mac and iOS apps, and is the creator of LifeHQ, where he teaches his personal approach to getting more done. Mike lives in Wisconsin with his wife and 4 crazy boys and is the author of Thou Shalt Hustle. He is also the co-host of the Bookworm podcast and (probably) spends too much time on Twitter. The tech industry is a dynamic business segment. Dave Ginsburg, Brian Flanigan-Arthurs, Marty Jencius, Mark Fuccio, Web Bixby, Jim Rea, and Eric Bolden discuss Apple's acquisition of Pixelmator and how it might affect both Apple-branded offerings as well as the legacy application. Then, layoffs at both Tidal and Dropbox are in the cross hairs. Tidal has been all but left out of the streaming music conversation, and Dropbox seems to have fumbled as they tried to diversify. Jason Snell has released the 4th edition of Take Control of Photos for Take Control Books to cover the most recent updates to the Photos app on all of Apple's operating systems. Jason explains why Photos has undergone more of a redesign than an upgrade, utilizing machine learning to help you do more than ever before with your photos. Also more unified than ever is the interface across Mac, iPhone, and iPad which helps in overcoming the resistance to adopting new features. Jason touches on how the improved search capabilities and customizable collections enhance the user experience and utilization of photos. This MacVoices is supported by Notion. Our conversation with Jason Snell about the 4th edition of Take Control of Photos for Take Control Books wraps up with a look at the power of the Photos app for users of all skill levels. Enhancements such as Photographic styles change the game by providing more post-capture options than ever before. In this episode of the Enneagram and Coffee podcast, I explore the concept of the inner child for Enneagram Type Three, referencing the work of Sandra Maitri. I describe the Type Three's inner child as a fearful, shy, and insecure Type Six. I offer advice on how Type Threes can connect with their inner child to address hidden anxieties. Some suggestions include daily unplugged walks, journaling current fears, writing letters to their younger selves, and specific meditations. I also encourage listeners to explore their fear of stagnation and reprioritize their energy for personal peace. -- Thank you to this week's podcast sponsor - NOTION!!! Most folks expect some new Macs to shamble forth. Apple drops big hint October event will be Mac focused Apple invited the world to a product-launch event on October 30. And the invitation strongly suggests that new Macs will be on the agenda. Mark Gurman's tweets: “Apple's iMacs and MacBook Pros are in extremely short supply” “Apple has been testing M3 Max and M3 Pro 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros” “Apple has been planning an M3 iMac for a while […] No other major changes other than the chip” “Inventory of existing high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros — as well as the all-in-one iMac desktop — has dwindled at Apple stores as well as retailers” Monday's ‘Scary Fast' Macs could sport M3 chips after all After Apple invited the world to its Scary Fast product event Monday, speculation turned more seriously to the idea that newly announced Macs might sport faster new M3 chips rather than versions of the current M2 series chips. MacRumors: OLED iPad and MacBook Rumored to Feature Specialized Display Materials Apple has apparently collaborated with LG Display to integrate new OLED material sets in some of its future devices, including forthcoming iPad Pro and MacBook models. AirPods 4 could deliver active noise cancellation AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 will get the axe in 2024 to be replaced with a fourth generation that will come in two versions, according to an unconfirmed report from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. One AirPods 4 model will offer ANC and have a charging case that supports the Find My app. A cheaper version will not have either feature. Apple raises rates for Apple TV+ and other services by up to 40% The cost of watching Apple TV+ series and movies just went up 40%. […] The price for Apple Arcade, Apple News+ and Apple One also increased. But the cost of other services, like Apple Music, remains the same. Extra Ordinary: The CultCast ‘Scary Fast' Predictions For (probably) the last time this year, Erfon, Lewis and I will be putting down our predictions for a surprise event on Monday.

Erfon: iPhone 15 Pro overheating may arise from Apple ‘compromises' Widespread reports of iPhone 15 Pro handsets overheating probably don't stem from the new 3nm manufacturing process for the A17 Pro chip but from shortcuts Apple may have taken with the thermal system, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Tuesday. Griffin: Next year's standard iPhone won't get a hand-me-down chip Rather than holding over iPhone 15 Pro's A17 Pro chip for iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, the full upcoming iPhone 16 lineup will carry A18 and A18 Pro chips running on an updated TSMC 3nm production process, according to an analyst. Do you always know what your next calling will be? If not, that's what we are going to dive into today with guest Andrew McCarthy. Andrew Thomas McCarthy is an actor, travel writer, and television director. He is most known as a member of the Brat Pack, with roles in 1980s films such as St. Elmo's Fire, Pretty in Pink, and Less than Zero. As a director, he is known for his work on Orange Is the New Black. Andrew has had a huge life change and discusses how he found his true self in moments of fearlessness and how you can too. He also discusses how fear can hold us back, his career in the film industry, the habits he's developed that have played into his success and so much more. What we discuss: 04:07: About Andrew 09:55: Who was Andrew close with? 12:45: Who did Andrew attempt to date? 16:31: Is Andrew still an editor? 17:09: What happened after Andrew stopped acting? 19:19: Did Andrew know he was meant to be a writer? 21:40: What was Andrew's experience with Orange Is The New Black? 24:41: How did Andrew figure out how to work behind the camera? 29:24: What does Andrew think of plastic surgery? 33:49: When did Andrew realize he made it? 37:36: Does Andrew think he self-sabotaged himself? 45:34: What was Andrew's most and least favorite movie to film? 50:19: Would Andrew act now? 51:12: What are Andrew's favorite things to do? 51:53: When is Andrew's documentary coming out? 55:22: What daily habits does Andrew have? 56:32: What kind of exercise does Andrew do? 57:51: What foods does Andrew eat every day? 01:00:08: When is Andrew's book coming out? Key takeaways: - You don't always know what your calling will be, as it won't always come to you. That's why it's important to try out a bunch of things and see what ignites a spark in you. - The feeling of being fearless only needs to be felt for a split-second, to give you the courage to take the first step towards your dreams. - Self-sabotage is usually something we proactively do, but most of us tend to only realize it after the deed is done. There are two parts to the tag that most of us wear: creative + professional."Creative" means that you get to use your skills to solve problems and create new value every day. "Professional" means that you do it for money, which means that sometimes you have to do what's expedient even when it's not your preferred path.On this episode, I share three pieces of career advice that every creative pro should consider implementing in order to make their professional life more resilient. Then, we have Mark LePage (founder of EntreArchitect) to help us better understand the business side of creativity and ensure that we are managing both effectively.Mentioned in this episode:Please support our sponsors:Cozy Earth: Named one of Oprah's favorite things in 2018, Cozy Earth's best-selling bamboo sheet set is temperature-regulating and incredibly soft. Throughout history, people have had to adapt to changing circumstances and opportunities in order to thrive. However, the pace of change has been accelerating for the past century in an unprecedented way. And, as creative pros, we often feel the effects of the pace of change. On today's interview, Dr. Gabriella Rosen Kellerman is here to discuss how we can prepare ourselves for what is to come. As she says in the episode, "Since hunting and gathering, we've had to adapt the same neural hardware that's designed for foraging. And in each of those adaptations, whether it's agriculture or industrialization, there are parts of the old machinery that work, and there are parts that are a mismatch." Today's episode helps us identify those mismatches and how we can prepare for what's next.Dr. Kellerman's new book is called Tomorrowmind.Mentioned in this episode:Please support our sponsors:Cozy Earth: Named one of Oprah's favorite things in 2018, Cozy Earth's best-selling bamboo sheet set is temperature-regulating and incredibly soft. Dean Stott is a Tier One Special Forces Soldier, Security Consultant, and World-Record Breaker. After dedicating 16 years of his life to the British military, Stott suffered an injury while parachuting that tragically cut his service short. He and Jen discuss what led to his time with the Special Forces, how they trained him in "Kill Rooms", his time undercover, and more recently his work getting embassies and civilians to safety in crisis zones, his friendship with Prince Harry, and more. This man has lived an incredible, storied life and in this over 2 hour long episode they get into it all. Not to mention he also broke a cycling World Record on a whim. Seriously, this guy is hardcore! If you've ever wondered what's going on in the minds of these intense Special Forces soldiers, or maybe just interested in the unbelievable stories someone like that has to offer, you absolutely must catch this episode!
